To me, this is just an average Starbucks. The location is sketchy at best. The surroundings in the past were safe but now I wouldn't want to leave my car and only use the drive thru. The drive thru window, parking lot, etc have always been dirty and the staff kinda unfriendly to me, but maybe it was just a bad day. The last time I needed a quick late night Starbucks fix, they were doing renovations, so maybe they will will spiffy the place up.

It always is a different experience and it starts with whoever is taking your order and that it is taken right without the superficial chat, Did you really hear my order? Although this has happen a few times, they are conscious of customer service and always remedy the mix up or apologize for their mistakes- we still come back after 3 years to this location that is farther down the street from home.

Starbucks is a once a week stop for me. Had I the extra petty cash I would be tempted to spend it all on Starbucks, but alas, I am a lowly State worker. My Monday commute into work is made just a little brighter by the quest to acquire a tall latte and a Portland coffee cake, if one is still left by the afternoon. The locally made Portland coffee cake is a top choice for me, but they are likely to be sold out by the time the brunch rush is over. It has a cinnamon sugar crumb topping that is so good I always eat it first, then work my way down to the cake. I've been to every location in Salem more than a few times, though I normally just use the drive through. Of the two I use the most, Lancaster Ave and S Commercial, both are liked evenly well. Plenty of drive up line space, right on a main road, and can clear a line of cars in record time. The Lancaster location has the added bonus of being adjacent to the frozen yogurt shop Sweet Papaya that I love. The blend/roast of espresso Starbucks uses is my personal favorite of any large chain coffee shop. It tastes almost sweet compared to other major names like Seattle's Best or even Java Crew. I know I should order the non-fat, but I do like the 1% milk they have started using, and it's not that much more fattening. The brewed coffee, however, does tend to taste a little acidic on my tongue so I rarely buy it. On occasion, I have been bought bags of whole bean coffee for Christmas or my birthday, and I will use these, but it is only because they were free. I'm choosing to tag the 1134 Lancaster location for my review, but you could pretty much cut and paste for any of the fine locations. Never found one sub-par or unworthy of the Starbucks title.

I ordered a venti quad caramel macchiato and it was beautiful and delicious - yes, at the same time! Terrifically convenient location on Lancaster with an easy to maneuver drive through. Gotta love that its building is made of concrete for those not-so-awake customers!

I did check on my car a handful of times to make sure no one was breaking into it though. I'd come back here if I was passing through and needed a place to rest or to access the wifi.
