My hubby and I are regular visitors to Los Arcos. Every time we have been there we have been greeted with great service, plenty of food, and always leave with leftovers. The chips and salsa are tasty! Chips are always served warm and with a plate of re-fried beans & a cole slaw type of mix to dip your chips in. I always get the Arroz Con Pollo. I guess I should try something different, but...I cannot seem to break away from this because at Los Arcos, they actually MAKE it the right way. AND they serve it with piping hot homemade tortillas. YUM!! Their strawberry margaritas are great, too! They make them strong and sweet. No wonder I waddle out of this place when I'm done. Margaritas + Chips & Salsa + Dinner = FULL. A happy full though.

Best chile relleno & pupusas! Love the salsa bar in the bar! Friendly staff, quick service even when they are busy.

There are some truly fabulous dishes here. This is my favourite Mexican restaurant in town; my spouse favours another, so we split our trips, but he is not the fan of seafood offerings as I am. I absolutely love the enchilada platters that pair things like a chicken and a crab enchilada with a fresh avocado slice on the top - innovative twists on classics. In my opinion, the people who've said the food is bland or mediocre aren't ordering the right things. If you're coming in for the drinks, they are generous and never watered.

I just moved to Oregon from San Diego, and I have had great Mexican food. So when my husband said we should check out Los Arcos I didn't expect much. I probably should have tried one of the burgers because whatever it was we got, it wasn't Mexican food. I got the Suprema Tostada, and it was a sad mound of taco salad over some shredded beef with a flat tostada buried at the bottom. My husband got a "Flaming" dish with chicken and beef. It was not all brought out together so when they set down a little salad and a mini tostada (which was the shape mine should have been in but wasn't) he was confused and insisted it wasn't what he ordered while the waiter chuckled that yes it was. When they brought out his chicken and beef and "flamed" it in front of us it was entertaining. However the sauce they use to flame it is pretty much just alchohol and it was crazy potent, while at the same time not very flavorful. The pico-de-gallo-ish appetizer had WAYYY too much onion, but the avocado was nice, and the fried ice cream was meh. The servers were helpful and smiled, so that helped a little. But I still wouldn't go back. It makes me too sad. Where can I find fiery, passionate, delicious Mexican food in this town?

We have become regulars here due to lots of great menu choices and a relaxed family atmosphere. Not really traditional Mexican we are used to, but very good. I like the Camarones Ahogados because it is delicious and very low calorie. They have an attentive and very friendly wait staff. Great place to bring small, well behaved, children.

I've been here several times and the food is good but the service is not. You're seated very quickly, but there always seems to be a wait to have someone take your order and then another significant wait to get your food.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in town, so far. The food is great with a great selection (I haven't tried the seafood, but I am picky about seafood so I wouldn't venture to try it at any Mexican place). It's nothing spectacular, but if you want to go out with a friend or your family for some good-ol' Mexican food, this is a good place to go. The prices are also very generous considering the amount of food you get. I tend to get the Los Arcos burrito with chorizo, which is wonderful, and provides three meals for me (I take home more than half every time). The bar section is a little divey, but if that's what you're going for, it's great! I do need to say that there are some other Mexican restaurants in town that I have not yet tried, so I can't say it's the best. But it is good, and priced very well!

Typical Mexican food spread. Mediocre at best. The Margarita on the other hand was strong.. It made the bland food tolerable ;)

First off --- only 4 stars, because as most people say, the food is pretty generic. Not bad, and they have a few good dishes, but overall nothing special, and yes --- there are better mexican restaurants in Salem. However, we continually will go back, because the cantina in the back is awesome! There's free chips/salsa/veggies - which you can't go wrong with, and they drinks are excellent! If you're looking for a value, you can get a double mixed drink in a tall glass for just a couple bucks, and they are STRONG. One drink and you're good! The servers are so nice, and remember us every time we come in (last strech was a good 8 months since we had been there)! If you're looking for a stiff drink, or a strawberry daquiri (they're excellent here), head to the bar at Los Arcos!

  • Scott K.

The food here is really typical of a Mexican joint ... There is nothing bad about it but nothing great. It's priced ok but not what I would call cheap The cantina however is pretty cool in the back, all the chips and salsa you can handle and stiff drinks. If it weren't for that i'd probably never come here.

I love this place. I always eat in the bar to avoid kids first off. I always get good service and the drinks are always good.

Not impressed! I was actually looking forward to going here when my friend invited me down to Salem for dinner. I was thinking it was the place that I had been to with her before. I realized it wasn't (that place is just down the street - and much better), but I still hoped it would be good. It's not awful by any means, but it's not good. My enchiladas were WAY salty. I got a crab meat enchilada and a chicken enchilada. I know, don't get crab at a place like this, but I would expect it to at least not have shell in it. The sauce was bland, the rice was mediocre. Overall, I was just pretty disappointed. The prices were a little high for what it was and being in Salem, too. The service here was awful. The waitress was one of the most depressed acting people I have encountered in a long time, let alone at a restaurant as the staff. She acted like every little thing we asked of her was a big inconvenience. She wasn't snitty about it, but . . . depressed. I've had worse service, but I can't think of a more depressing experience. Go somewhere else. It's Salem, there is some pretty good typical American Mexican food. Go eat some of it.

Good food, Good prices. My sister took me here while I was in town. We went for happy hour in the bar. Strong margaritas and excellent salsa. For diiner I had the arroz con pollo. HUGE portion and very tasty. There were 5 in our party. We had 2 dinners split between all of us (everyone had plenty) plus 6 margaritas for about $50. I would go back.

After having authentic Mexican food in places like New Mexico and Arizona you quickly realize this place occupies that void between fast food and marginally good. Mexican restaurants are legion in Salem and most tend to dwell in this same void of blandness which makes you yearn for the real south of the border taste. However, if you're a bar fly than you might like to swarm with those who usually gather here giving it a false positive for an acceptable eatery via the volume of cars that perpetually sit in their parking lot.

  • Erin H.

They only get four stars because the food is just typical Mexican-American. Their strawberry daquiries are the BEST IN TOWN. Don't believe me? Fine--your loss. Plus, they have the BEST chicken nachos anywhere. And in the bar they have a nice little snack buffet with chips, salsas, veggies and dips. How great is that?

    (4)
  • Clay H.

Avoid this establishment. Poor food combined with poor service at a fairly high price will keep me from coming back here. We ordered the fajitas and they didn't have that exciting fresh sizzle. I thought they came out of a crockpot. The guacamole was grey green and the chips felt stale. I noticed that the booths were falling apart and the plates were worn out. This wasn't a classy worn out look that you might expect when at a place that has been around for 50 years, but it was a neglectful look of a business that was taking advantage of an established clientele. From the outside, it seemed a bit inviting, but as I approached it, I began to have my doubts as it began to feel like a bar. Inside, there were poorly set up TVs added but the place felt worn out.

This is the best Mexican restaurant in town! They always remember my order and the order of my daughter - even help correct me if I order something that I haven't ordered in the past - and this is even if I haven't been in for months. They ask how my family members are if they don't come with me - places don't care enough to do that anymore, but they do! The food is excellent! The staff is very nice - but have a bit of trouble with English. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Los Arcos is a good place to hit up if you want some good Mexican food. The staff is friendly and the service is great. They're also one of the very few places in town who serve Pupusas and they're pretty damn good. I would recommend Los Arcos to anybody and I would've given it 4 stars but usually for lunch time, it tends to be a little slow for my taste but I never let it stop me from going back regularly. Check it!

The food here was a major disappointment. They used old fajita meat to make my chicken mole. Shame! Honestly, the meat tasted like it had been sitting in the back of a walk-in refrigerator for weeks. I sent it back and was afraid to order another item from the menu. The margarita was pretty lame too. But the servers were nice and that's the only reason they get one star.

Los Arcos looks promising from the outside but is a bit disappointing on the inside. The exterior design of the restaurant make up for the lack of festive decoration of the interior. This says the same on of the food as well. Their menu is stacked full of great combinations and plentiful portions, only to be lacking in actual taste. The food is plain as is their salsa. There is nothing that stands out as far as food goes of the 4 times I've gone there for lunch and dinner. The one thing that keeps me coming back is their service. Numerous times, the waitresses and waiters have gone out of their way to bring a smile to my face. The moment they hire another cook or two, is the moment this place will be jumping with Mexican cuisine-loving fans like myself.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
