This place was terrible. Slow and inattentive service, and the food my friends and I ordered came out at different times. Honestly, it's really not that hard to steam rice and veggies quickly. My food was bland and expensive. Definitely would not recommend at all.

Been a while since I ate here; got a spicy chicken lunch plate ($6.95). A very nice meal here! The very moist, juicy chicken combined with the exquisite spicy sauce for a magical combination (lots of red chili flakes in there). The sauce had a respectable kick while not sacrificing flavor. Very inviting presentation. The refreshing salad provided a nice breather from the saucy chicken. The dressing has a burnt orange color, which doesn't necessarily scream "I'm pretty, look at me," but it works for me. I wish Fuji Rice Time would get some nice spring greens instead of what appears to look like a packaged salad (it may not be, but it just appears that way). Overall, another lovely experience!

This is my favorite place to get Sushi in Salem. A+ quality and freshness. Staff is always very friendly, attentive and accommodating. A few of my preferred items are the Dragon Roll, Spider Roll and Spicy Scallop. The Seafood Salad from their pics of specials on the wall is amazing and a great value for all the seafood you get.

While our house was being renovated and my wife was pregnant, we came here to get healthy food and get away from the mess in our kitchen. The food has always been great and the atmosphere is great for a small child. It is a go to for our family for a sushi date night.

FOOD: Good lunch spot! for the quality and type of food they turn out, they are pretty fast - call ahead and have it waiting. I can personally attest to the Spicy chicken, teriyaki chicken & teriyaki beef, spicy tuna roll, sun roll, dragon roll, high street roll, .... Ok, so I have eaten here a lot. Top notch quality for the price point, I'd say they over achieve for the prices they have. BEER/LIQUOR: N/A SERVICE: Service is friendly, definite language barrier at times but just be clear with your order and all is good. AMBIENCE: strangely fitting to the cuisine, not japanese but fitting.. you'll have to see for yourself. ALL-IN-ALL: If you want a delicious rice or noodle dish, or if you want some tasty sushi - you owe it to yourself to try these guys out.
(4)Eryn W.
We are regulars here - not the absolute best sushi ever (You'll have to travel to Mame in Eugene for that) but it's very good and one of the better restaurants in Salem in my opinion. A little pricey, but always delicious. We get spicy tuna rolls, tempura vegetables - which are excellent, California rolls and tempura vegetable rolls. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Our go to Japanese restaurant.

Came here with my Dad. It's a little place inbedded in downtown Salem, and a definite treat. It's a little expensive, but tasty!
(5)Jackie Y.
Ick. I've eaten there several times before and have been pretty happy with the bento lunch. Today I branched out and had the yakisoba. A mistake. The noodles were goopy. The goop was indescribable: sweet and yucky come to mind. I've lived in Japan. Yakisoba noodles are not supposed to be goopy. The chicken wasn't that great either. It was tender, but over-marinated with another sweet sauce. It was a very, very disappointing experience. I'm not to the point where I'd say don't go there. Just don't order the yakisoba.
(2)Tony M.
We had some sushi and udon. Nicely done in a relaxed atmosphere in downtown Salem. We'd come here again.
(3)MariaAnna K.
I'm impressed! The portion is good size for how much you pay. I ordered Oregon role which came with eight pieces and elegant style! Only 6.50! And complimentary hot green tea. Coming back soon!

I don't come to Rice Time for the sushi. I come for the bento style meals they do a good job with. Every time I eat at Fuji it reminds me of bento style food that I enjoyed in Japan. For a while I was eating there several times a month and never had a bad meal. The gyoza is always a good choice for an appetizer and is always served piping hot. The California rolls are very good as well. As for entree items, I especially like the tempura udon, although I wish they offered kitsune udon. There are three other dishes worth ordering. The chicken curry really tastes great on cold days and the yakisoba is good as well. The teriyaki chicken is perhaps the most boring menu item, but in its defense, the cook has the wisdom not to drown it in sauce. Also, the entree prices are very reasonable for lunch and acceptable for dinner. You'll find better Japanese cuisine in Portland and probably Eugene, but you'll also find a lot worse.
(4)Dallas B.
Scallops were whole and tasted fishy. The California Roll was so disgusting that I didn't even eat the tuna. It was dry and flakey and tasted fishy as it wasn't fresh. They had me pay first to sit at the bar and then when I said that I would forgo the bar-she changed her story to that they were closing for lunch and that I had to pay. I'm pretty sure that they charged me dinner prices as it was $20 and am certain that I was served food that was going to be written off as spoil. Probably why she made me pay first. I should have went across the street to sports bar and had a sandwich. Lucky to get 1 star due to service and servings.
(1)Nelson S.
Sushi rolls here are fresh and pretty good. Service is really good and they are attentive. Prices are a little high but if I was downtown and hungry I'd stop in for dinner.
(4)Katrina Y.
Very good sushi! I had 4 different rolls, and they were all very delicious! The staff was very friendly and check to see if everything was good and if we needed anything. I'll definitely be going back!
(4)Jason C.
Was somewhat skeptical walking in here but wow were we surprised. Sushi was fantastic and they were fast to serve it. I ordered three special rolls and they were all fantastic. The fish tasted really fresh and the flavors were fantastic. I will for sure be back here for some sushi the next time I am in the area.
(5)Armando O.
Descent food but overpriced. Paid $75 for 2 people and my socks werent knocked off.. service, food and actual sushi making process were soso..
(3)Holly T.
Large portion sizes. Good tasting teriyaki chicken and yakisoba. I don't eat sushi but it looks like they have a huge variety.
(4)Frannie h.
Yum! This is my go-to for fresh, light and tasty lunches in Salem. The fish is fresh, service is friendly and efficient (perfect during the work day) and the prices are reasonable. Parking is never an issue which is a major plus. I usually get a sunomono, miso soup and sashimi. They usually have some kind io special as well. I've seem the rice plates, they look ample and tasty. Atmosphere is nice as well, it has a more authentic feel than lots of other hole in the wall Japanese joints.
(4)Aniceto M.
My first time here was a success! I went during lunch time in which they served their lunch menu. Out of the few selections they had, I went ahead and ordered the Teriyaki Chicken plate. Boy was I not disappointed! The chicken was nice and tender and was not completely drenched in teriyaki sauce. The steamed rice was underneath preserving its warmth. And let me tell you, the portion size could have easily been for two but I didn't eat lunch or breakfast so I sure as hell scarfed the whole thing down :P Overall, food was delicious and service was great! I enjoyed the slightly dark atmosphere of the restaurant. Def plan on coming back.
(4)Doug W.
The first thing I noticed.on the menu was "krab" listed as an ingredient on several of the rolls. I asked the waitress if krab spelled with a "k" meant that it was imitation crab meat. She replied that it was. Fake crab is not my idea of good sushi.
(1)Allie G.
I really love this place! It is a bit on the spendy side for me, but it's a great place to go for special occasions or date-nights. The sushi is great, and the rest of the food is also wonderful. My boyfriend at the time really enjoyed their Korean-style ribs. ORDER THE SOFT SHELL CRAB as a side or appetizer, you won't regret it.
(4)Katie C.
Best sushi around salem!! The Lobster roll & Chef roll are to die for :)
(5)Joel M.
Yes sushi, I will eat you. I'm glad that you asked. No, I can't lie, you're not the best I ever had, but don't let that get you down. We can still have fun and enjoy our time together. Just let me go refill my green tea first because refills are free or at least I'm going to pretend they're free.
(3)Doug K.
The sushi here was not the best I have eaten. It was bland and the taste did not come forth as fresh. The prices were not inline with the quality or the quantity as I left still feeling hungry. The service was initially cordial and friendly, but drinks were not re-filled and the staff was not attentive during the meal. Which was odd because it seemed to be they had plenty of staff and it would of been nice if my drink was re-filled at least once.
(2)Allen T.
You will get a menu with their fantastic Japanese cuisine. Ignore this menu. That's for another time. You will get a slip of paper listing their sushi offerings. Go nuts. Get anything with freshwater eel, what my friend Mike calls the "bacon of the sea". Get the tempura shrimp and soft shelled crab rolls. Get anything topped with flying fish roe, which will pop delightfully in your mouth like fishy poprocks. Get the Wasabi Tampico rolls which are fearsomely hot and will cause you to sneeze, sweat, and make amusing facial contortions. You will not care because they are delicious. Get the soft shelled crab rolls. Get the spicy tuna rolls. Do not neglect the Nigiri, which is slices of raw fish/crab/eel/etc served over sushi rice. You will mark the hell out of this piece of paper. You will order way too much food. Like, WAY too much. You are going to eat all of the ocean tonight. That's OK. Embrace it. Whisper a silent apology to future generations who will grow up with a barren ocean wasteland. But it's ok, because all of it will have gone into your slavering maw. The wonderfully attentive waitress will come over and recite your order. A small frown may cross her face. Ignore it and order the miso soup as a starter. Now wait. This ain't no conveyer belt joint. You will sit and you will wait and then you will reap the benefits of your patience. Because after what seems like an excruciatingly long time, during which you will have been greedily slurping delicious miso soup so it may not actually seem that long, your fantastic waitress will stagger to your table with a gigantic serving platter filled with all of the sushi. All of it. Ever. Handmade by the nice long-suffering Asian man behind the counter. Then, if you are not already wearing one, go out and buy a hat. And hold onto it. Put a huge lump of Wasabi in your sauce dish, fill it up the rest of the way with soy sauce. If anyone near you adjusts his monocle and informs you that mixing soy and wasabi is not the proper way to eat sushi, you will punch him. You will not stop punching until your hunger overcomes your blood lust, which will be almost immediately once your gaze strays from your foe's battered face back to the platter containing ALL THE OCEAN EVER. You will sit back down, grasp your chopsticks with grim determination. And you will begin to eat. You may harbor fears that you have ordered too much. You may wonder if you can eat all of this. All of the sea, that is. The sushi chef has denuded the Pacific for you. You worry. It's understandable. Until about half way through this embarrassing repast, this sushi extravaganza of humiliating proportions. Then. Then you will secretly wonder if you haven't ordered enough! This will gnaw at your brain while you fork the delicious fruits of the ocean into your trembling mouth hole. You will worry, but this worry will fade into the background of the huge rush of endorphins your brain is releasing as you shovel in roll after roll. As you eat things you've never heard of and would be afraid of if you met them in their natural environment, the sea. You will eventually fall back, exhausted and victorious, into your chair. Your attentive waitress will deposit the check on the table and cart off the truly enormous platter with the help of 5 oxen and 1 bus boy. You will owe one million dollars. That's what it will feel like. And you will think this is cheap, after the repast, nay, the orgy you just participated in. Tip well.

Sushi in Salem, Oregon? I had a hard time trying to find a decent Sushi place around the Salem area, as we were coming back from Crater Lake Nat'l Park. I'm glad I found Fuji, as we were pleasantly surprised with the quality, price and service. I ordered Salmon Sashimi, Rainbow Roll, Spider Roll and Spicy Cream Salmon Roll. The rolls were really good, the Sashimi wasn't as fresh as I've had in other parts of the U.S. (mostly California), but it was passable. The rest of my family members Bento dinners, and still had a bunch of left overs to enjoy. If I'm ever back to Oregon, I'd definitely come back here.
(4)Jay R.
I think the miso is better at Momiji (I'm always a bit disappointed by the miso at Fuji). Sushi is about equal between those two, maybe a slight edge to Fuji. But the poke tuna is better at Fuji. Because of that -- we like poke tuna a lot -- Fuji has become our "go to."
(4)Misty J.
The Fiancé and I decided to stop in for a quick sushi roll before heading back to the coast. We had our 5-month-old baby in tow, so of course, he got lots of attention :) We ordered the Fruity Roll, Golden California Roll, and the Buri-something Roll (that one was The Fiancé's, so I don't remember the name. Our server was very sweet, and brought us some DELICIOUS miso soup to start. Getting our rolls took longer than expected, but they were very good. The menu is not extensive, and seems to be geared toward a more Americanized palette, but they do it well. I'd go back.
(3)Gail B.
My other favorite sushi restaurant in Salem. The service: the waitstaff is very attentive, knows the menu well enough to describe an item without having to check with anyone else, always checks on your drink & how your food tastes, grabs used dishes and utensils out of your way and they deliver service with a smile. The food: the rolls are fresh, the fish is fresh, the flavors are full & delicious, had a dragon roll and it was SO filling and SO delicious that I ordered one to go. The soup was very good and hot, the tea is really good quality and if there is something not on the menu, they will accommodate you to the best of their ability. The atmosphere: first thing to mention is that is was very clean, there is plenty of space to sit comfortably, the decor is really cute with lots of Eastern-themed wall art, lanterns and other such items. The lights are low but not "make me squint" dim. When in the restaurant, you don't notice the talking from other diners because every spot is like a tiny little cave that you can enjoy your group and food in. I love this place because of all of the above and we come once per month because it's just great.
(5)Jael J.
My best friend from college and I used to come here at least once a week. It was so fun. We love this place. We always found the cuts to be generous and the flavors to be awesome. I don't think I ever had a complaint there. The presentation of all the rolls was always well done even during rush hour. The free tea didn't hurt either. The polaroids on the wall were always super helpful to us, althought we almost always ended up getting "the usual". Wait staff is amazing and the food is great - and FAST! What more can you ask for?
(4)Adam V.
I've been frequenting Fuji Rice Time for some time, and have always left full and content. The food is great, expecially the bento. One of the best restaurants in Salem!
(5)Danny P.
From my experience this is hands down the best sushi place in Salem, and that's after trying just about every one that I could track down. The good: The sushi rolls are very reasonably priced. The restaurants specialty rolls are unique, and the couple I have thus far tasted are excellent (Specialty rolls are $8-$10). The staff is very nice and the service is great. The mediocre: Sashimi is expensive here, at least in comparison to their other offerings. The fish has a bit of a... boring taste. I don't know how else to explain it: It is fresh and well prepared, but it just seemed to be lacking the flavor found in the absolute freshest and best sushi (which doesn't appear to exist in Salem). The Sashimi plate was also well prepared, but kind of lacking in diversity. Despite the few misgivings, I still think that this place is a solid four stars and a great dinner option. On a final note, I don't quite get the negative review by the person served imitation "krab". The great majority of even excellent sushi restaurants that I know of (Sushi-Thai in Naples, FL for example), still serve krab in their rolls and even in their sashimi. I think it's become it's own little offering now, apart from its origins as a cheap crab substitute. Here is a good hint though: If the roll only costs $6, then you're not exactly going to find fresh blue crab in it (unless you happen to be dining on a dock).
(4)Amanda B.
Went here for the first time tonight and it was amazing! The service was incredible and the sushi rolls were not only delicious, but of excellent portions! I have never had to take a go box home from sushi until tonight!!! And it was really reasonably priced! Will be returning!
(5)Sarah A.
Today was a day for miso soup and chicken yakisoba. The miso soup was good. The flavor was saltier than usual. Very good. Chicken yakisoba was good. Not overly sauced. Vegetables were steamed not mushy, and with a little crispness to them. Perfect. The chicken was topped with a good flavored teriyaki but not so much that it was runny all over the noodles. No complaints. This is going to have to be my favorite Japanese spot in Salem so far.
(5)Finnaeus E.
The sushi is amazing and fresh, but I'm not a huge sushi fan. I live for the udon here - its amazing. Yum. I only wish they were open earlier.
(4)Mike S.
Fresh sushi, good service and a good beer menu. The best sushi restaurant in Salem.
(4)Don S.
Decent sushi. Rainbow rolls, salmon sashimi, spicy tuna rolls and tuna sashimi are good shrimp tempura is okay. The prices are a bit steep, but it's sushi, but it's Salem, but it's not fancy, But again, it's Salem and there is a dearth of good places to eat. Its pretty consistent.
(4)Timothy C.
The quality of the food is uneven, when its good its pretty good but whens its bad it practically inedible. Their curry was good and I would recommend their chicken; whoever, their beef was not only made Chinese style instead of Japanese style, it was also covered in a sauce that was so salty as to be inedible. In addition, their California rolls leaned toward overstuffed (which is still a much better problem to have than the alternative) with little rice to balance out the flavor of the avocado and fake crab meat.
(3)Heather S.
The sushi is always tasty, and even my ten year old loves the miso soup. Don't forget the ice cream. Really family friendly!
(4)Michael R.
I'm pretty much a regular here now... the Seafood (Sashimi) Salad is consistently excellent.
(4)Sean G.
Food was great and price was right. Had a great time will be back again soon!
(4)J.J. S.
Best sushi in all of Salem. I eat here once a week and find the food and service consistently good.
(5)Rusty W.
Best sushi I've had in Salem
(4)Rachel S.
In town for one night, we walked from the hotel and were surprised how quiet things were for a Friday nite! Fuji was appealing from the entrance, with its sushi bar and paper-lit decor above resembling shoji. The yakisoba was good enough - it was lacking in flavor but the noodles were good. The gyoza were fresh and hot, as were the salmon avocado rolls. The service was very prompt and friendly!
(3)natalya c.
i went to Fuji rice time for dinner, i got it to go. I ordered a tuna roll & a rainbow roll. they made it right after i ordered. Food was priced well & the ingredients were fresh tasting. I totally enjoyed each bite. i would recommend going here. its hard to find a good sushi place...especially in smaller towns.
(5)F. Explora L.
Still by far the all-time best sushi place in Salem. I'm in love with this place. Spectacular presentation. Spectacular taste. This is the one place in Salem you can truly get quality sushi. This time I tried the spider roll which was soooooo delicious! Their sushi always leaves me smilng from ear to ear! And I absolutely love the warm friendly servers. They're all so cute and personable!
(5)Chrome Grille E.
Good location within walking distance of the Grand hotel. I like my sushi cold. It was not. My partner had the tempura vegatables. Service was good. Food was pricey compared to some other sushi bars.
(2)Justin B.
Great quality and inexpensive. I was happy to find this Salem sushi spot. Friendly attentive waitress and tasty food. I will be returning soon. I enjoyed the atmosphere.
(4)andrew s.
Fuji's is great. Second best Sushi in salem. Love the Botan Ebi (Sweet prawn) Nigiri. When they ask if you want the head say yes. Its just so fun to suck the brains out of those delicious golden fried little buggers. The sushi bar is small but both guys working it that I've seen have good personality and make it fun. The terayaki is decent and you can get a reasonably priced bento box with all the fixins, california roll, vegetable tempura, salad, rice, chicken and miso soup. The soft shell crab tempura is good and the spider roll is always awesome. For salem sushi it deserves a five, but compared to other sushi restaurants In major metro areas I have been to it gets a three. We'll meet in the middle and call it a four.
(4)Naoe K.
Fuji RiceTime is not only the best option for Japanese fare in Salem, but excels in the absolutely-beautiful-fresh-raw-fish department over restaurants I've frequented in NYC and other large cities. Look at the other available worthwhile local choices (Sushi Kyo, a favorite of mine for oddball creations on a conveyor-belt concept, and Kyoto Sushi which is far overrated and doesn't even serve lunch) and you'll agree that FRT is not only absolutely superior to anything else hereabouts, but that it stakes a strong claim to superiority over big-town sushi shops worldwide. Our first visit was for an early lunch, Having looked over the online menus, I smelled "overpriced cuz we're the only show in (this one-horse) town." $5.50 for an a la carte order of hamachi sushi?!? No matter, I was jonesing for sashimi and operating under the assumption that this burg couldn't possibly be as fish-impoverished as it seems. Well, we strolled in as first-time customers yet were treated to cuts of sashimi the size of my palm. I just stared at the plate. Heaven! Find that kind of generosity in London, Paris, New York or Los Angeles, and tell us where you found it! The salmon, smoked salmon, yellowtail, and albacore were buttery-fresh and absolutely delicious in taste and texture. The eel (whether unagi or anago) is great, just tell them to hold the wacky and sugary extra sauce on the eel sashimi, sushi and rolls. Amaebi (sweet shrimp), snow crab (on special for $5.00 that day -- always keeping in mind these people serve strangers HUGE quantities/cuts), and a plain old spicy tuna roll which was somehow more than perfect -- all kept us talking for hours about how great this place is. As a New Yorker, I don't much bother with reviewing service or friendliness or how cute the waitrons might be unless a restaurant's exhibition of these characteristics repeatedly and significantly impacts my experience of getting great food gracefully into my mouth. I will say, though, that the staff appeared to be entirely Japanese (this is a bit more important than the politically-correct cantors would have you believe), and they treated us cordially and professionally, and that the food they happily serve is really, really, really grand. A couple of suggestions for FRT employees reading this review: some genmaicha matcha-iri instead of or in addition to the sencha offered would be truly wonderful; the sake menu could be expanded a little, could it not? and would it be at all possible to include some grated daikon with sashimi orders... and (well why not ask) perhaps even put nukazuke on the menu as a garnish or side order? Readers, if you truly love extraordinarily beautiful fresh goodies-from-the-sea, find a time within their operating hours when you can go enjoy the jewel which is Fuji RiceTime. Get happy. :-)

Great option for Sushi in Salem - either for lunch or dinner (it gets very busy during lunch). The food is very fresh and the menu includes at least two dozen sushi roll options (my favorite is the Marion Roll). The menu does include many Japanese non-sushi items so everyone's tastes can be satisfied. The service is always friendly and speedy. The space is simply designed and could easily accomodate families or large groups. If you're in town and you love sushi, you'd probably enjoy a stop in here.
(3)Clare T.
Awesome - best Sushi I've found in the Valley - very worth it.
(5)Tim S.
It's time, teriyaki chicken time. Rice time isn't bad, it's not good. Its just sorta there. We go there alot for lunch during work to mix it up. I wouldn't go out of my way for the experience though. The decor I don't believe has ever been updated. You can probably take anything off the wall there and it would leave a perfect silhouette in its wake. Not a huge fan of the Japanese style bench seating with the ass pads that do little more than put a piece of fabric between you and the wood. To me there are two things on the menu, sushi or teriyaki chicken. Your choice. Nothing else is really worth it. The tempura udon is really nothing special. If your big into tempura in general i'd just skip it here. Not much to taste. The chicken teriyaki is alright but really to me its the only thing even worth eating there. What I can say is the service is quick. And its nice that you pay and order on your way in and your food comes fast because you can jet as soon as your done. If you like sushi that might be your best bet. They do have a full service sushi bar (whatever that means?). I'm more of a sushi as an app not a meal type so I haven't had much of it there. If your bored of the same places for lunch and you haven't gone to rice time yet give it a swing. Worst case scenario you'll be out 7 bucks.
(2)Jeffrey K.
Our favorite in town. The staff is always super friendly. We've been coming here for years.
(4)Jando S.
Fuji's restuarant is a mix of the average sushi, great waitresses, so-so decor, and pricey japanese food. In other words, nothing super spectacular going on here. Its a great place to go if you've got some extra $$$ and are in downtown Salem, but it is hardly worth making plans for. For the locals of Salem, it would be convenient (rather than going to Portland) but it comes at a hefty price. The waitresses are very nice. They are quick and prompt and are willing to make arrangements if told ahead of time. The service makes up for the food for sure.
(3)Missy S.
One of the better options for sushi in Salem. Lunch time tends to be really busy so plan for a longer lunch. The food is always fresh tasting and they have a large selection of creative rolls. Good dining option for groups or couples.
(4)Owanda G.
Fuji is the sister restaurant to Rice Time in Monmouth. This place offers tasty Japanese fare for a reasonable price. Located opposite the Elsinore Theatre, it's a great place to catch a bite to eat before a show or if you just happen to be wandering around downtown Salem. Fuji offers both bar and table service so it can easily seat couples or a large group (12-14 people; I know since they were able to accomodate my large family). Unlike some Japanese restaurants run by Chinese or Koreans, this one is the real deal. You won't be disappointed. If you're in the mood for Korean/Taiwanese fare, try their sister restaurant in Monmouth, Rice Time. Great food for a great price and very popular with WOU students and Monmouth locals alike!
(4)Mira N.
You'll find reliably fresh, decently priced lunch fare - or reliably fresh, slightly overpriced dinner fare. Lunch means standing in line to order - and the place is slammed. Dinner means traditional table-side service and more relaxed setting. Food is good, service is good - can't complain.
