Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

I saw an ad on facebook for a 6.99 buffet. I figured I hadn't had a slice of pizza since I moved to Oregon, so why not. When I arrived, I waited in line for 20 minutes (though the time passed quickly because the patrons around me were chatty and liked to talk about how poorly organized this location is). When I finally got to the register, the girl asks "Would you like our buffet tonight?" I reply yes. She says "$7.99," to which I say "Oh, I thought it was a dollar cheaper tonight?" She tells me it is, but I have to tell her I saw "the facebook coupon and then I have to tell [her] how much it is." I'm surprised. "Alright" I say, "Can I get that price then?" She tells me it's too late. I thought she was joking. I get that promotions like that are trying to be cute, innovative, whatever generic word you want to use for marketing. But in my experience, promo prices are exactly that; in other words, businesses typically use the special price, are happy to do so, and thus everyone's happy. If I have to tell the person behind the register how much my meal will be, well, that seems like a poor business model. I laugh and shrug. She then gives me a detailed lecture on where the buffet is, how it works, and where the salad bar is (hint: it's the trough two feet behind behind you if you're standing waiting to pay, before you actually eat. You'll stand by it for 30 minutes. It's filled with vegetables. If you leave the building, you've gone too far). I turn around and look for a seat, but every table is full. Further, there are 5 people standing around an empty buffet, waiting, and then I realize that there are people before me are also waiting to grab a seat. I think to myself "well, this seems pretty ridiculous"--they were taking money without having the space for customers, and everything seemed to be ludicrously disorganized. After contemplating for a minute, I decide to ask for my money back and go someplace else. I know, I know, I should've left before I paid, but I just assumed that there would be room for a dude and all would be well once I sat down. I ask a waitress if I can get a refund. She looks at me. Finally, she says, "I'll get a manager." The manager, who was looking professional in a t-shirt that read "Bar Boyfriend," asks me what I need. I say "honestly, this is kind of ridiculous. I'd like a refund. I didn't eat or anything, but I'd rather leave." He replies, "Okay, you do understand that we're really busy, right?" I reply in the affirmative. He hastily processes my request and gives me what turns out NOT to be a refund slip, but a copy of my original receipt, as I find out later. I walk out irritated, but make it a point to tell people waiting in line to "mention the facebook coupon to get your discount." I'm sitting in my car examining my receipt, and I get the sneaking suspicion that either he gave me the wrong slip or I was charged twice. Naturally I think it's the latter. I try to check my phone to see if the balance on my card has changed, but there's nothing. I head back in to find out the answer. There's still a long line, and of the people who did pay, there are still some awaiting for the buffet. I see I made the right choice. After 10 minutes I reach the register and say, "Hi, I was here earlier and received a refund, but I just want to make sure I have the right slip. I want to make sure I wasn't charged twice. Is this what the refund slips look like?" She admits she doesn't know. I follow up with, "what do the regular credit card slips look like?" She can't answer that either. Another waitress tries to help, but is equally clueless. I felt they should know what their credit card slips look like. While I wait for the manager again, the guys next to me--who have been waiting to pick up their order before I arrived again--finally get their food. Rather, half of their food--they tell the girl behind the register that they ordered two pizzas--I saw this problem coming a mile away, because it was clearly marked on the slip she placed on the counter. She disappears again. I assume my best non-confrontational pose while I wait for the manager. I see the two waitresses and the manager glancing at me by the kitchen, but I continue refreshing my banking app, trying to see if my credit card was charged twice. I don't want to be difficult, and I don't want a fight. I just want the right slip and a bit of professionalism. Finally the manager rushes over and declares his presence by saying, "here it is. I gave you the wrong slip. Here's the refund slip." He does apologize, but I had the distinct feeling it wasn't for my benefit. I walk out. I probably should be angry. I was irritated at first, but the longer this went on I left feeling the same way one does when they get out of a job they hate, a boring meeting, etc. I was incredulous that a restaurant can be that poorly run, and staffed by people so incompetent. TL,DR: Worst service and management I've ever seen. Go elsewhere...anywhere.

This is one of the best pizza places in Salem. Very reasonable prices and great pizza. I have ordered here over 20 times and have never had a problem.
(5)Jen H.
Highly recommend this pizza parlor... BEST Gluten-free crust pizza in all of Salem! Excellent prices and on my last visit they went above and beyond on the customer service! If you live out South... You must try this place!!
(5)Anne P.
We have never eaten inside the restaurant, so I can't comment on what that experience is like, but plenty of other reviewers have, which is why we haven't gone in. We have ordered delivery several times. The pizza is usually good. Not as good as Paddington's, but the crust is nice and thin and crispy and they have good sauce, if they use enough of it. The problem with Donatello's is consistency. Every time we order, they seem to forget something. Once it was the 2 liter of root beer we ordered. We called the store and first they said they had no way of getting hold of the delivery guy while he was still out there. Really? I find it hard to believe a 20-year-old guy doesn't have a cell phone. Then they called back and said the guy would come drop it right off, since he just forgot it in his car. Well, he showed up at like 9:30 PM with the bottle of root beer, after we had long since given up and the kids had gone to bed. Weird. The other night I ordered online and chose a pepperoni pizza with olives and fresh mushrooms. We had just gotten home from a long trip, we were starving and tired. The pizza arrived, we got everyone ready and sat down to eat: the pepperoni pizza had no pepperoni and had the thinnest layer of sauce I have ever seen. Luckily, we had some pepperoni slices and a jar of sauce in the fridge that we quickly "fixed" it with. I just feel like we shouldn't have to fix the pizza. Or call and have them come back to give us the rest of our order. Some other reviews have mentioned them forgetting things. There's too much competition nearby for Donatello's to drop the ball like that. And the reports of Donatello's deleting complaints from their FB page is also troubling. Wouldn't you want people to see how you respond to your customers and make the situation right? It does not matter how good your pizza is. If the customer service is bad, you won't make it. I hope Donatello's can turn it around.
(2)Kylie R.
We ordered the BBQ Pork pizza online, for a large and having it delivered, I was impressed with the price, $22.75. Shortly after placing my order, I received an email telling me down to the minute what time my pizza would arrive, and it came even faster than that! The pizza was delicious.
(5)Riki Y.
I rate the pizza and cheesy breadsticks at 4 stars. Taste great and ingredients seem fresh. The style reminds me of Walery's and that's perfect cause I love that style. The pepperoni is cut small and thick, as well as, the olives too. I love big cut veggies. The service was good the two times I've visited. The only thing that prevents me from eating here more is the price. It is a little high for my family to indulge too often. The inside seems like it needs a renovation despite alterations prior to opening. We just grab ours to go and pizza party at home!
(4)Dr. J.
My wife, kids and I love this place - I'm a bit of a pizza aficionado and this pizza stands up to padingtons and walery's without a doubt. I'd say I prefer it, there is such a variety that it's always hard to choose. It's a good old school pizza place where you can take the family and have some good pie, and dad can have a good beer.
(5)Matt R.
My wife and I are huge fans of Paddington's Taco Pizza. It is typically our go-to place when we have a hankering for a slice (or 2 or 5...). However, this may be changing, as the taco pizza at Donatello's is right up there. We utilized a Half Price Salem voucher of $10 to bring our large sized pizza price to $9 (hence it was $19 for a large). I can't remember exactly how that compared to Paddington's, but I believe it is pretty similar. The pie essentially has beans, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and topped with crushed taco shells/chips. All the ingredients were fresh and the pizza was piping hot right as I made my pick-up. My only negative part was that there was no taco sauce to accompany the pizza, but that was only a minor complaint. I am only withholding a final 5 star, as we did not dine-in and would like to try another kind (although we probably will still stick with taco pizza to be honest - ha!)
(4)Melisa G.
Wait staff not too friendly. Salad bar was ok. If you want a refill on water or drinks you have to go up to the counter and hope someone is there. Pepperoni on pizza was soo oily it was dripping with grease.
(1)Jeff H.
Got a chance to stop in here and try their pizza and bread sticks. It was pretty good. The place is spacious and very bright, with a lot of red in the decor. The pizza we ordered was a large pepperoni and pineapple, with a side of cheese bread. Donatella's follows the old-style pizzeria trend, though, that I absolutely loathe. A separate bar is off to one side, where you have to order drinks individually or by the pitcher, with no refills (that I could tell). I wanted a small pitcher of beer. Amazingly, it cost about as much or more than the large pitcher! (My memory is fading, but I know it was something like that. Sorry, weak review point) I commented on that and was told that they tried to discourage the ordering of small pitchers. How weird. Well, I didn't want a large pitcher, and I didn't want to pay that much for a small pitcher, so I just got one beer. Then had to go order and pay for another one in the middle of eating my pizza, because I couldn't just have a tab like in a sit-down restaurant or a drink station to refill my own soda. Blech. The pizza was pretty good, though, large with plenty of toppings, and the cheese bread was outstanding. I wouldn't be opposed to going here again, but it certainly has nothing that would draw me to it. With a few small exceptions, I tend to shy away from stupid Drink Bars in restaurants.

Friendly staff, tasty pizza, and Facebook deals. Works for me! It's an old school type of place...reminds me of the kind of place I went to as a kid. Nothing fancy, but that's the point!
(4)Angelia A.
It was our first time to Donatello's Pizza. We ordered large pepperoni with a side of bread sticks & a salad plate. The pizza was good but the bread sticks were not that great. If I go back I won't order them again. The overall appearance needs a lot of attention.
(3)Scott P.
This is our favorite place to eat in Salem! Great pizza and great Facebook deals daily! Just had the lunch buffet and it was awesome! We will be back soon
(5)Darin S.
Similar to Paddington's pizza, very good thin crust style pizza Ordered take out, order was correct No complaints If you near it in South Salem, it's worth a try
(4)Angie R.
This is a great new pizza place. The pizza is great the sauce is scratch made and the price is right. You add in that they deliver now its a home run. 1 draw back seems like they are always in some kind of construction mode, seems unfinished inside.
(4)Monica M.
Tried this place 3 times and every time was a dissappointment. 1st visit our groupon was not honored. 2nd time the buffet was limited and the salad was not fresh. We decided to try delivery with pizza and chicken wings, could have been good, but was delivered to us an hour and a half after we called it in and was cold. Called right away to see what they will do to fix this and told a manager would call us back. No call back. Could have been a good place, but after 3 chances we will not be going back. Costomer service would have gone a long way, obviously they dont care about their costomers
(1)Joe H.
A cardboard crust pizza with little sauce and overall, a bland pizza. Service is fair or usual. Clean interior, but why the 2x4 foot under construction open ballast lighting in three places or why store a pizza oven in the open dining area. Overall, will probably return some day and give it one more try.
(3)Daniel W.
Nothing amazing. Pizza is ok. Needs decor. I know it's a new restaurant but my goodness modernize it.
(2)Eric E.
Had read on their Facebook about a $5 lunch special so we were on that side of town and decided to try it again. This time things were cleaner and the pizza again was excellent. Also tried the salad bar and it was pretty decent imo. Overall a pretty good visit this time with no major glaring issues anywhere.
(4)Mike H.
So excited to see a new pizza place by our house. Took my wife and off we went. There were about 4 people in the place when we walked in. It was a great experience until we saw the look on the ladies face in the kitchen. She was uninterested in greating us and I was instantly on alert. She bordered on rude and despite that we stayed. The wanna be macho man in the kitchen kept shooting us glaring looks and we stayed. We put an order together as she stood and said nothing we stayed. As my wife ordered I made a little joke and the response was a blank look and we stayed. I steped to the restroom and the pungant oder was so overwhelming I wanted to gag. The room was gross, I was wishing I was in a porta-john in the August heat, just for relief. I left the room ,cancelled the order and left the biz. As a business owner, we are always buying pizza for meeting's at the office. As a basketball coach, we are always looking for a place to take the team. As pizza lovers, we are always looking for good pie in a CLEAN and friendly atmosphere. Sorry I can still smell the nastiness and feel the uncomfortable nature of their way of doing business.
(1)Ed J.
they offer two different crust options a ny style and an oregon style.....my wife and i tried the 3 topping ny style for 15 dollars we had pepperoni olives and green peppers.. Pizza was beyond bland the pepperoni unfortunately was the same pepp used at michelangelo's a big no for me. We will go back though and try the "Oregon style" i have a feeling it will be very similar to walery's, jc's and obviously Michelangelo's i hope not though.

5 star pizza. no doubt. but everything must end, and for me, Donatellos has ended. they close randomly, and don't announce such abrupt closures on any social media outlet. they don't have an answering machine letting customers know what is going on. I've never known a business with such disregard for its customers. EVER. I had their lunch buffet about a month ago, no vegetarian option except for the cheesy bread. salad bar was disgusting, but for $6.99 you really can't complain about the slimy offerings. like others have said, buffet was not ready by 1130am, so people have to wait until the pizza is hot and ready. worst part of Donatellos? they delete queries on their FB in regards to why they randomly close. and when they do try to explain random closures, they talk of interior work. BUT AGAIN NO WARNINGS OF ANY CLOSURES. so people just call (no answer or no answering machine) or show up to a shuttered restaurant that advertises it's open on social media, their website, etc....when it's not! Unbelievable. this is such a sad updated review, because they, hand's down, have the best pizza in town. such a waste. I have many other issues with Donatellos, but they've pretty much been hashed out by other reviewers and a thread on the subject. *sigh* my only hope and prayer is that they actually read all the reviews and listen to their customers.

Very delicious Pizza. Tastes just as good or better than Padingtons or Walery's. The price is the saving grace. Find their Facebook or halfpricesalem.com deals and your golden!

I love the crispy-but-not-too-crispy crust at Donatello's. The Monday pizza buffet for $6.99 is a screamin' deal -- all you can eat pizza (even dessert pizzas) and a nice salad bar. The toppings are obviously top-notch. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the old pool hall next door that they are now expanding into.

Finally! It seems that the owners have turned things around here. They're answering their phone, making the food correctly, and--get this--they're now delivering! That last part is what has me re-hooked. Padingtons and Walerys both fail in this department and I HATE that my only delivery options have been chain garbage joints or overpriced and underwhleming Odd Moe's. I have ordered this pizza four times in the last week. This delivery option is going to be a hugs problem for me :)

Used to be great. But can't eat there ever again. Ordered a Hawaiian pizza last night and had it delivered. Got it, all was well. Leftovers into the fridge. This morning, the ham is green. No really, green. I will try to post the picture. I signed up for this just for this review. Not normally a rabble-rouser, but this is unacceptable!

I feel like eventually, the word is going to get out about what a good pizza this place makes, and then the ample seating and nice salad bar are going to get a bit more crowded. As it is, the Lunch Buffet, with all you can eat salad bar, pizza slices and dessert pizza is an awesome deal. How they can afford to cook that much pizza for the eight to twelve customers that were in there when we were is a mystery. Their excellent thin crust pizza is delicious and I can't wait to go back. The evening fare is a bit more expensive, when they charge by the pie rather than buffet-style, but you do get plenty of great pizza. The organ music on weekends is a bit loud if you were there in a group and wanted to carry on a conversation, but it was fun to listen to if you're there for the music. Ongoing renovation will eventually double the seating in the place it seems, providing more intimate spaces for groups to converse, as well as plenty of room once the quality and value become more common knowledge. A big thumbs up!

Fast delivery, lots of cheese and quality toppings. So cheesy it's like extra cheese.

No. My family and I came here for their Monday night buffet. They don't offer any vegetarian options, other than the cheesy bread, which is very good. We had to special order a pizza, and when it finally came out, it was small, and halfway gone already. The salad bar is good. Many options. Everything looked fresh. The plates? Filthy. Disgusting. Their glasses are the same. Seriously, GOBS of food and sauce all over. I messaged the maintainer of Donatello's Facebook page with this complaint and never heard back. Then, I commented on a post, and the comment was removed and I was blocked. Shady, unprofessional, DIRTY establishment with mediocre pizza.

Great pizza, great price and friendly staff. We'll be back for sure.

First time there. I looked over the salad bar hoping to have some. It looked pretty picked over and not very appetizing. Two young women took our order. We ordered pizzas and my friend had chicken soup which tasted ok but not very hot. We waited over 20 minutes and still no pizza. When I asked how long a pizza takes they said 15 minutes....okay it's been 20. I'm hungry, where's my food? They couldn't find our order!! They lost it! It wasn't even started. After a long day at work I was not happy or willing to wait for them. I have to say I saw 6 people working there and NO other customers were in the restaurant. We were the only ones. What did they think we were there for? Water? We decided to leave without trying their pizza. They did refund our money and offered a $10 gift card for their mistake. It'll be awhile before I try them again. I have to try to forget this experience first.

I just did not like the pizza at all the place looked nice and every one Was Friendly. We tried three different pizzas and they were all blah. They Had somewhat of a salad bar and they pretty much had no appetizers for sale yet.

There's a funky smell that wafts you when you first enter. I asked about the toasted ravioli and the older bearded gentlemen appeared annoyed by my questioning: they're called toasted on the menu yet they are fried. Warning: frozen not fresh!! Salad bar is overpriced and underwhelming! Pizza was just ok! Paddingtons is better! I will not go back! Tried it twice; the second time to give them the benefit of doubt!

Punctuality was not our friend on 5/29 when my girlfriend and I show up at 11:31 for there lunch buffet(11:30-130). The place had already been open for a half hour and we seemed to be the first patrons of the day, great no wait for pizza right? Wrong, we talked to the guy and he was finishing up a real order and told me it would be 10 min until pizza for the buffet would be up and we agreed that would be fine. I know a customer service 10 min vs. real 10 min and this was the former. I could tell it was gonna be longer. It gave me a chance to look at there place a bit more. Kinda dark but I like that in a pizza place, good general seating and nice well stocked bar not that I'm drinking at 11:30 in the morning. Thought we might drop some money in the bar game arcade but they were off or out of order. Then I noticed a lot of the coin operated stuff was Out of order. Repocket quarters. This is when my girlfriend says she noticed it smelled very odd, and thought it might be the salad bar that was possibly, I say possibly, been sitting for half an hour. At this time we meaning my gf and our stomachs decide to leave, we are too hungry to wait. I Will give this place another try, pizza buffets can be truly exceptional, but my only real issue is if you offer a limited time buffet it should be ready to go at start time. I say this completely understanding that the real order supersedes ours as I believe it should. Like I said punctuality was not our friend.

First, I have to say that I read the reviews before we went and I was astonished to read another reviewers disappointment in the salad bar. In addition to lettuce, there were TWENTY NINE choices, I mean really, what else is there???? The pizza was okay. I was a little annoyed at the set-up, pizza and beverages are ordered at two separate places so that makes for two transactions, it's tedious.

Pizza is good, comes out fast and there is plenty of space for a larger group. HOWEVER, they are remodeling to include a video game area, which is cool for the kids out south...but it will draw a larger crowd and not sure if the seating will be enough. I guess we will see when they open that half. LASTLY I have to mention they have this piped organ and this individual plays it right during the dinner hours. It's horrible it's too loud! I couldn't even hear the person talking next to me. Let alone we were with a big adult group for a nine-year-old's birthday party (just family no kids) and you couldn't hear anything anybody else was saying. We asked the player if there was a volume on the organ and he pretty much ignore that question. They have got to do something about that. We will never go back during the hours that the organ is playing if we ever go back. I gave it 2 stars because as I stated above the pizza is good, salad bar is good and the service was quick.

Pizza isn't bad, "northwest style pizza" is code for attempting to copy previous and currently successful pizza places in the area, and they do OK at it. The taco pizza is actually really good. Kinda fumbly with the service side, but I WOULD HAVE continued to go there, cause it's close to my house.... But won't after the experience I had today. I had been there two days ago, accidentally left my keys. Called the next day and verified they were there, went to pick them up today. Got my keys, but a key chain which had no real value except sentimental had been removed.... Which was ironic as the key chain was how they had me identify the keys over the phone. After looking around for it, the teenage girl helping me told the manager about it, and he declined to even address it. In the least he could have apologized for the fact that one of their employees decided to steal it. I would have been happy with that, but deciding to ignore it has cost them my business, there are plenty of options and I will go elsewhere. Sad to lose a customer over a $5 key chain and a manager who doesn't understand customer care. Wallery's would be my suggestion if you're looking for a good "northwest style" pizza

Usually good, but for a change tried the buffet. Bad choice. Too many pizza sharks to get anything but macaroni topped pizza unless you stand at the buffet all nite. Salad bar destitute as well.

We decided to stop in while running errands. I wanted a few pieces of pizza and salad. We opted for the buffet. Great value and very good pizza. The salad bar was fresh and just perfect for a quick meal. I enjoyed the crispy crust and have been searching Salem for just this type of pizza. It appears they are making updates and under some construction which is needed. The pizza was very good so I will be back. I noticed they deliver so I have now found my new go to pizza place!

This was our first visit, and our last. The interior of the restaurant looked like it was in the middle of several remodeling projects, leaving the place feeling disorganized and messy. Our pizza was cold and bland. We ordered the chicken and pesto pizza. The chicken was rubbery and the sun dried tomatoes were were rock hard. On a positive note, the service was very friendly. I had heard great things about the place, and will support a local business whenever possible. I feel like they really dropped the ball here, and it is highly unlikely that I will be going back.
