Decent food but the prices put this place out of reach for mere mortals. Drinks were watered down but the service was friendly.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that if the first thing you see in the restaurant is a stern-looking abuela (that's 'grandmother,' for the non-Spanish-language inclined), it's a good sign. Said abuela was enjoying some enchiladas and apparently haranguing her grandson to settle down with a nice girl, and my heart sang to hear it. I have my own abuela in San Diego, and if the food isn't good somewhere, she's not haranguing me about anything. She's raising a high and unholy fit about the food. So, to my mathematical genius, happy abuela means good food. And I wasn't disappointed. Was it the best Mexican food I'd ever had? No. It was a little on the greasy side. But I've had far, far worse, and I was pleased on several other fronts - the service was great, the guacamole was good, and the sopapillas were awesome. In the land of my people, I associate sopapillas with little fried flour triangles with cinnamon and sugar. Maybe something a bit like a strawberry sauce wandering around on them. These had whipped cream (maybe it was from a can, but what do I care), maple syrup (I was skeptical), chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, cinnamon, sugar. I began looking for the kitchen sink on them. One disappeared into my dining companion's mouth before I could even snap a picture. I would go back and try the enchiladas. Why I didn't just say, "I'll have what she's having," when I saw that abuela's plate, I'll never know. The taco was nothing to write home about, though the chicken was well-seasoned, and the rice was typical Mexican restaurant rice - nothing to write home about, especially if home is ten miles from the international border and everyone there is a Mexican rice critic. It's not going to knock your socks off, and make you unable to ever enjoy Mexican food anywhere else, but it wasn't bad. Three stars is about right.

I love this place! It's small and quiet, but not cramped like my other favorite Mexican restaurant. Te margaritas are tasty, too!

Cozumel is a personal favorite of mine. The food is always flavorful and plentiful. The staff is efficient and I will say that one of my biggest pet peeves, and empty iced tea glass, is a rare event here. Their menu has a wide and varied range. At this point, I have tried a half dozen dishes, including the one I always use to rate the quality of a Mexican restaurant, chicken mole. I am happy to say that Cozumel's mole is up to par.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
