We went here expecting the best pizza in town, as written by some previous reviewers. All I have to say is sorry, your taste buds are just like Salem. Lame! This cardboard heavy crust is terrible, the toppings are just that, toppings. Nothing special! There was some hippy music event tonight, so I counted 5 wait staff running around looking busy, but not really doing anything. My ol lady finally went to the front and asked for a box to tote this crappy excuse for pizza home " what we will do with it, who knows?" When the waitress came she was a little bitchy like we were bothering her. On a good note, our shared Caesar salad was good. So, if you want a superior pie do yourself the favor and pick up papa Murphy's and stay home.

this is another time I went back to this wonderful place for pizza and Italian food. let's just say it is the best pizza in Salem and their Italian food is wonderful. it's a different venue then DaVinci's, what does a fine job as well. give it a try and I don't think you'll be disappointed

Still eating here several years later... Figured I'd update my review. Love dining right about 5pm any night. This is a great place for groups, listening to live music, having a drink or glass of wine and the best reason is THIS IS NOT A CHAIN. Fresh tasting ingredients, service is always great (well except for one male server), and we even purchase to-go sometimes. I recommend reservations if you are dining Thurs-Sat, even if it's for 2 people.

The food was delicious and even though the place was packed (on a Tuesday night) our server Julia was amazing. I will go back just for her.

Food is great if you can get served and have the time to wait. I had to walk out last time I was here because they forgot about us and I only had an hour for lunch.

Best gourmet pizza Oregon has to offer, good wholesome pizza, and when you walk away you won't have a stomache, very artsy place, and I recommend it to anyone who wants a good pizza and fine dining.

Five of us met for dinner at Christo's Pizzeria Restaurant work, and besides having to hunt for parking (I ended up parking on a residential street a block and a half away), it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I haven't been to this location before, but had really enjoyed the gourmet pizzas at the former downtown Salem Church Street location. I had the small Number 7 (12-inch) Christo's Combo Pizza, (the personal sized pizzas (10-inch) are not available at dinner), which cost $21.25 but was well worth the cost. It is a good pizza, and I took half of it home for tomorrow.

Hands down the best pizza in town. I don't know why I waited to eat here till now, but I know I will come here time and again. The atmosphere is pleasant with very plenary pleasant aromas. the service is friendly and speedy. I ate the Christo combo which has a little of everything on it. I especially like the artichokes and various meats. A really good pie! I look forward to trying the white pies.

Happy hour 5-6pm $2 well drinks, always a friendly bar keeper with unusual cocktail specials. The lighting in the bar is low and the music is a good level for conversation. A great place to have a date night.

Went to dinner with friends and ordered off the fresh sheet this time. I had the penne rustica, which I have actually had before and my husband had the chicken picatta. Also ordered at the table was the p.l.t, risotto of the day (saffron), veal saltimbocca, and veal marsala. You know the food is good when a ten year old orders veal marshals and clears her plate. The penne was good. I was glad I opted to go meatless this time around. It wasn't as heavy and I didn't miss the fact that the meat wasn't there. The other entrees all received rave reviews around the table. For dessert the table shared most of the dessert menu...limoncello mousse, chocolate mousse, tiramisu and creme brulee. There were no complaints. The service was good and even after we had taken care of the bill, but we're still there talking, they made sure we had no beverage needs. Always a bonus.

My favorite place for pizza in Salem. I probably go 2-3 times per month. They have amazingly delicious and creative pizzas, pasta and salads. I also love that they have a low $5 corning fee for wine. Makes for a great date night with my wife or family dinner. I've thrown several bday dinner and even a rehearsal dinner for my sister here. Great service.

My husband and I have been here a couple times and we like it a lot. The food is great and the atmosphere is enjoyable, but the service was slow and seemed like they didn't want to serve us (there was still 2 hours before they closed). Overall I would recommend this place to people (and I have) unless they were looking for a wide variety of foods or they were hungry already.

Take to long to come to table, then I saw my waiter chit chat his way back to the kitchen with our ticket... No one is working on my dinner if they don't know what I ordered.

This used to be our favorite pizza place but the service and quality was really bad on this visit. Our pizza was overcooked and wasn't the right toppings we ordered, our salad and soup were really slow coming out, and the waitress offered us nothing to make up for the errors other than apologizing and telling us they had a new cook.

I have had their pizza before, but this was the first time that I ate in house. We showed up at opening, and was surprised that the place filled up quite a bit within 30 minutes of opening. We ordered a pepperoni and Italian sausage pizza with the garlic cheese bread as an opener. The cheese bread was outstanding. The thing I have always liked about this place is the fact that you can taste the flavors of each ingredient, no doubt due to their use of fresh ingredients. This makes a simple meal much better. For being in the no mans land of Salem, the place had a very charming feel. I can see that parking could be a problem though. Overall the meal was outstanding. Give this place a try!!

Our salad? A wad of lettuce topped by a sparse sprinkling of tomato and olive. The pizza? Luke warm and limp. Maybe it was the wrong pizza and salad to order, but I doubt I'll return to try another of either.

I was really disappointed this time around. We dined on a Thursday night about 6pm and it was moderately busy. We were seated in the front of the restaurant at one of 7 tables. After 15 minutes of waiting I started craning my neck in an attempt to get some attention. The other 6 tables surrounding us were being serviced by two other waitresses, so I tried to make eye contact with the one who constantly passed our table. She actually looked the other way! How rude. Finally the hostess came over and asked if we had seen our waiter. When I said no, she informed me that he was servicing an 8 top and must have gotten distracted. Shortly after a ho-hum waiter arrived. He acted completely disinterested and when we ordered two small pizzas and the four cheese canneloni, he informed us that the pizzas were large, even for a small. I assured him that was fine, as we wanted to take the rest home, but this comment did not deter him from telling me we could do a half-and-half. Are you trying to stop us from spending more? Sheesh. Anyway, the margherita was good, as was the pepper and sausage pizza. I do find that $17 for a small marg to be really taxed, but whatever. The killer was the $13.50 canneloni we ordered to split. Thank god I didn't just order this as I first thought to do. It was NOT worth $13.50 in any way; it was small, and the pasta doughy, and the filling had a sharp and sour taste to it. My husband said it tasted like bile and he was right! Funny thing was, one canneloni was more bile-y than the other. Maybe the parmesan? We didn't finish the dish and I was REALLY hoping that the waiter would ask about it, but he didn't. Not surprised. In the end, Christos just didn't make it. The number one thing that will turn me off from a restaurant is bad service. I don't how good the food is--if your wait staff makes me feel like an interloper I won't return. And why would I? I'm not going to pay a pretty penny to made to feel uncomfortable.

Went to lunch the other day and service was CRAP! My husband and I met per his work schedule for lunch. Waited to be seated for more then a few minutes, which would be fine had it been busy, however, there was only one couple dining. When we finally were seated our 2 year old was not offered a high chair so I had to go get one. We waited quite some time to order while I choked down a few sips of watery coffee. Food arrived very late with no concern from our waitress who also could see that my coffee drink had not been touched and moved out of my way. Again this might be acceptable if they had a crazy busy lunch rush, but no....no one else there at this point. Hmmmmm, now I see why it was empty.

NOT worth your time or money! Won't ever go back! The food was not worth looking past the absolutely horrible service that you experienced. After waiting forever for service even to take our order we then waited forever for pizza and were told that it's just what to expect due to them being busy???? WHAT!!!! So being busy is now an appropriate excuse for poor service and food that was not worth waiting for!!! Won't ever go back!!!!! And on a side note the place was filthy;(!!!

The best pizza in Salem, even when the crust is over done (about 20% of the time). Since I grew up in NY, I have very exact taste and they meet it.

  • Christopher L.

The crust is perfect. Soft and chewy inside, with the perfect crunch to it, and just firm enough on the bottom to support the pizza. And if you favor a slightly crispier or softer pie, they will adjust the oven time to your liking . . . just ask! The cheeses are perfect. Fresh and hand-made mozzarella, accented with generous shavings of piquant Parmesan makes for a great balance of mild and sharp, sweet and creamy . . . a cheese-lovers dream, melted throughout and toasted to a bubbly golden brown. The toppings are fresh and fantastic. Their cured meats (try the salami!) are some of the very best, and between vine-ripened tomatoes, fresh red and yellow bell peppers, crisp red and green onions, fresh basil, imported olives and mushrooms, roasted garlic, sausage, chicken, artichokes, pesto, spinach, Gorgonzola, Fontina, Feta, pepperocinis . . . even pine nuts! In summary, everything about their pizzas is perfect. If I were to recommend one pizza to someone visiting Salem, it would be a Christo's salami and pesto pizza with olive oil in place of red sauce (this is off-menu, but may well be the greatest pizza you have ever tasted). Other favorites are the Garlic Lovers pizza bianca, the Christo's Original Greek, the Christo's Combo, and the Pizza con Pepperoni (if you want the best pepperoni pizza you've ever had).

Gross! I thought the first time I got a soggy pizza from here it was a fluke. But last night I got another take out and it was gross. It was so soggy and had way too much cheese on it. In order to avoId the soggy, doughy crust, I thought I would just eat the topping off but the toppIng was gross as well. Never again.

I would love to give Christo's 5 stars as I love Christo's pizza, it is superior to every other pizza place in Salem. The service on the other hand is utterly lacking. I typically only come in at lunchtime and the last three times I have been here I have been greeted rudely, served poorly, and been made to feel generally unwelcome. I will continue to come for the pizza but will have to learn to not expect friendly cute pus service . Also the two o'clock closing time seems to be when they would like you out by, not the time that they stop taking orders.

My father and I got kicked out of the house the other night and were told to spend some quality time with each other. So we walked the three blocks to Christos. A co-worker had recommended it and since it was so close, we gave it a shot. When we first walked in we heard some of the other people in line asking who had called in and made reservations which sort of scared my dad and I, and the other couple who had walked in just ahead of us. It turned out to be a non-issue when we actually walked in further to the hostess podium. (The other party was expecting 12 it seemed). So we were seated at a little table in the main dining area and got comfortable. I had been in here a ways back, when the Lounge was called "The Space". Someone has done an excellent job of remodeling and decorating. It looks really nice in here now. From what I could tell, it was not all that crowded, about half the tables were occupied. It took our waitress a terribly long time to make it over to our table for drinks and appetizers though. My dad ordered a bottled beer of some sort, and was pleased that it came with a chilled glass. I stuck with just water. When our order of bread-sticks (I say break-sticks loosely, since it was actually one large bread-stick cut in half) came they were very hot, smothered in a fantastic garlic butter and just the perfect combination of crunch and softness. The marinara was alright, but I'm not a huge marinara fan - so my dad ate most of it. We had ordered the Christos' Combo pizza, minus the sausage. Definitely a great pizza, I loved the cheese, pepperoni, and artichokes. I hate to admit, but I picked off the olives because olives are yucky. The 35 minute wait from the time we placed our order was mostly worth it, because it really was good, and we each had leftovers for work the next day. I did wind up running really late to meet up with friends, but that turned into a funny story later because two manly men had to wrap a baby shower gift in the back seat while I drove up to Portland. I wasn't impressed with how spendy the actual dinner menu looked (even the pizza was a bit on the pricey side) but I can see how this would be a nice treat one and a while.

The pizza is really good. My salad was kind of wilted and really oversized for a side salad. The staff was friendly but could use some training. Our waitress kept standing far back and behind all but one person at the table so you didn't know she was there then she would awkwardly interrupt. It took a really long time for my side salad to come out and then my pizza was brought out immediately after so my pizza was cold by the time I finished my salad. We waited at the table for over 15 minutes after we had finished eating and received no check and had to run someone down to get foil. It was not very busy either. The pizza is worth another trip there but they really need to work on training their servers better and should use equal quality ingredients for their salads. Wilted outer leaves of romaine with disgusting breadsticks aren't really very appealing.

I really love this place. The service is really slow but if you have time or want to order and pick up the food is really good. We had the tomato and basil pizza, it was so cheesy and delicious.

Worst visit will never go back!! Over an hour and we finally got our food to go. Several tables got sat after us but the server/manager took their order first ask to talk to the owner but that was not going to happen. I am going to ever blog to warm people of there service!! I will tell everyone I know not to go!

Best pizza I have had in Salem (and from other cities the like)! The service is wonderful, especially at the bar. They have a nice selection of wines and the pizzas are made to order as you like them. Apparently, movies, jazz shows and general fun extends into the wee hours next door. I hope more come to enjoy.

I can't eat white flour or dairy, so only ever eat pizza from Garlic Jim's in town (they have a GF crust and we order half the pizza without cheese for me). I went here with some friends, who said they have salads. I have to say the chicken salad I had was the best EVER! They freshly grill the chicken upon ordering and it was excellent. Fresh greens and a delicious dressing. I got the small order, and took half the chicken home with me, there was so much! The place is also very well decorated and they have live music from time to time. I'd like to go more often!

I just had the manicotti and it was awful! The pasta tasted raw and when I pushed back the sauce the two thin layers of pasta WERE raw and I could see the flour between them. I took two bites and my husband took one and then I was done with it. The waiter didn't come back to the table until my husband was finished eating and when I showed her my pasta and said that I thought it had been cooked in the microwave she became angry and said they didn't have a microwave and she grudgingly said she'd show it to the cook. Her attitude hadn't improved when she returned and said that it may be more al dente than I liked but it came partially cooked and they cook it the rest of the way. Her attitude and body language was defiant but she did ask if I wanted anything else. I didn't because my husband had finished his lunch and had to get back to work. It would have been nice if she'd checked back with us sometime during the meal but she didn't AND THEN SHE HAD THE AUDACITY TO CHARGE US FOR SOMETHING I FOUND INEDIBLE! As long as the waiter and cook think it's fine then it must be so. I won't be back.

The pizza was not that great and the food (fettuccine in particular) was just ok. Definitely not worth the wait and bad service. If you are a large group or have a movie you want to catch this may not be the place to go. We were informed (after waiting 15/20 min for a waitress to take our order and waiting another 20 min to tell us) that a large group takes at least an hour (to make their food). If you are a large group (over 6), please know there will be a 20% gratuity charged. Also, they will NOT split your check (not sure what the 20% gratuity is for). I will not be coming back.

This is a review for the lounge area only. Had a GREAT time here seeing Mike Prigodich's band perform. Cozy atmosphere with world class music and some fantastic pizza. The basil pesto with sun dried tomato's is outstandingly good, you will not regret ordering it. I finished off many more slices than should be allowed. Lisa (the booker/manager/host) is a super nice lady who cares about good music. That is important, and this place is worthy of your attention.

I drive by this place every day to and from my way to work, and, as I truly love pizza, I always meant to stop in, but the timing just never seemed right. The other day, the stars aligned and I gave it a shot. The atmosphere is very nice, reminiscent of an intimate Italian eatery, dark with a lot of earth tones. Jazz was playing, somewhat loud, but not distractingly so, and to me, it greatly added to the environment. The pizza kitchen itself is open to the restaurant proper, and the young man behind the counter seemed to know what he was doing. The tossing of the dough into the air was a nice flourish that I appreciated watching from my seat. Their beers on tap seem limited, as there was only a lager and a pilsner option, both of makers I'm not familiar with, but name-wise seemed to be Italian in make. I opted for the pilsner and it was enjoyable enough. I also asked the waiter for his recommendation on the menu, and he quickly had two favorites. Though not mine, I asked for a specific recommendation on whether their red sauce for the pizza was popular. He immediately said yes, but then countered that he actually preferred his pizzas without sauce, or as they call it, Pizza Bianca. I am also a "light sauce" person, so I went with that option, with pepperoni and sausage. I also got an order of garlic breadsticks, with their marinara sauce, so I could get a taste of that. The breadsticks came out quickly and were very enjoyable. Long, with a good amount of garlic oil and crushed garlic on them, but not not too powerful. The marinara was adequate, but not spectacular, though I do generally have a bias against it in the first place. The pizza was huge, a 12" option, but I had intended to take some home. It was not a standard crust, but the edge was risen quite a bit. There was plenty of cheese and other toppings. The sausage was not the crumbled kind, but more an like a sliced Italian sausage, which I hadn't expected, but enjoyed nonetheless. Overall, while I intended to eat only two slices and take the rest home for lunches, I ended up eating four. Bad me! The quality was great, the atmosphere was lovely, and the service was impeccable. Their selection of sodas seemed very limited, though, as I am a Diet Coke person, but it appeared they are an RC Cola kind of establishment. Hence the beer mentioned earlier. In the end, though, I will be back here. This would make a great place to take a date or loved one, though I imagine they could accommodate large groups. Small kids might not enjoy it as much, just because the atmosphere and jazz might not appeal to them as much. There was a kids menu, though.

The service is so bad, it makes the food a non-issue. We REALLY wanted to like this place; sadly, its just not worth the horrific service. Both times we've been, we waited an hour or more for food. Once they finally show up to take your order, you're basically then left alone again for an hour or more. You actually have to seek out a server to ask where your food is - and it's like it's a surprise to them that you're there, like they totally forgot about you. This is both times we went. And not friendly. Stiff, stuck up, like you're a bother. The pizza is good but unremarkable. The entrees are better. He had short ribs over polenta - delicious. I had a seafood pasta - also tasty. The appetizers are unremarkable - we ordered the caprese - I could've picked up better tomatoes off the ground of someone's abandoned garden. Even if the service and the food were both good, the prices are high. Open kitchen to the dining room, so its noisy. There seems to be a lot of activity, but no one's getting any food. I don't know where the disconnect is, but we won't ever return and will tell everyone we know not to.

Best pizza in Salem. I love this space, and the service was very good as usual. We had to wait a while while they cleaned a new table for us, but it was worth it. I haven't tried anything from the expanded menu because the pizza is so damn good. We regularly get the Greek (bianco, vegetarian) or the Christo's Combo (meat eaters only!). But we did see a couple of Calzones go by that were enormous. I just love this place, a locally owned joint that delivers the best pizza I've ever had, Portland included. And jazz!

One of the better casual places to get a meal in Salem. Excellent pizza and a menu of fairly well prepared italian staples. Christos backs it up is with the little things and a style and feel that is more urban that you often find in Salem. There is also a full bar and on the right night you can find excellent jazz, blues and other music. I keep going back for a reason.

What Happened To Quality Service? My friend and I had dinner, but that was after a ten minute wait for our waitress, then another fifteen minutes for our drinks delivered from one of the cooks. I asked the manager why it took so long for the drinks, and he apologized which is normal. Our first waitress had a sleeve of tattoos which I had commented on, and maybe that's why she never came back, and it was a nice comment! The cook was way creepy, he appeared emancipated, and kept giving me a weird smirk. Even my friend said she felt uncomfortable around him. This seems to be a recurring issue in the Salem area. Food was alright, but the service was less than satisfactory, not professional at all. With that kind of service...say goodbye to any tips, and possible future visits.

I love this place. I am super critical of my Italian restaurants. Blame it on being raised by a Sicilian mother. I have been going here for lunch now for a couple months, it's our business's favorite lunch spot, I'm so glad I work close! The marinara sauce reminds me of what my grandmother created in her kitchen. It has a little more spice than what I'm used to but it is so delicious. I've also had the fettuccine alfredo (which honestly isn't a 'real' Italian dish) and the pizza. Nothing has disappointed me. I was concerned about going to dinner here after reading a few of the negative reviews, but my sister was visiting and we were really wanting to have Italian food without having to cook it. So we went this past Saturday night. My sister and her husband got the family style spaghetti and meatballs. They did ask for more sauce, the dish came a little dryer than we like, but they really enjoyed it. My 4 year old niece got her own personal pizza and kept telling her mom that she loved the crust. My husband got a pepperoni pizza, he normally doesn't eat crust but he didn't leave any leftovers. I got the penne rustica, it has artichokes and mushrooms in a tomato cream sauce and I nearly licked my plate clean. It's better to come here around 8 for dinner, by that time the larger crowd has filtered out. We came at 7:30, were seated immediately and our service was fantastic. The guy was really nice and all our drinks, salads and the meal itself was served really quickly. I haven't tried out the lounge area but my husband and I plan on going back and trying it for one of our date nights. I absolutely recommend eating here.

Pizza is good, right? Right. Some places do it better than others and Christo's definitely does pizza right. I had a personal Margherita Pizza and fell in love instantly. Perfect combo of cheese and toppings with a crust I could go on about for days. Breadsticks were awesome too and since my SIL ordered before I got there, I didn't have to wait long to stuff my face full of this ridiculous goodness. Pizzas are mostly on the gourmet side and offer a variety of kinda. The place was super cute and comfy, staff was friendly and my pizza was decently priced. I think they have lounge side as well, with live music and such.

Was visiting Salem and really craving some pizza. I looked this place up (one of the few places open past 8pm) and it had great reviews. It had a nice atmosphere. Nice cozy pizzeria smell, staff pretty friendly. I asked for a pizza recommendation and the Christo's Combo was what they said was the best. Eh....$21.25 for a pizza....better be a pretty damn good pizza. It was just ok. Crust was average, sauce average, toppings not all that. Wouldn't go back, but it did me ok for the night.

Out of town from Tennessee and we were on our way to Portland from Eugene. We were at the football game and were starving. Planned to eat in Portland but due to a wreck, we chose to stop in Salem. Selected this place based on Yelp reviews. Absolutely fantastic meal! Everything was amazing. Pizza was great. Wine was spectacular. We hope to some day come again!

Best pizza in town, hands down. They have an amazing selection with gourmet ingredients that I love. The antipasto plate and caprese are the best starters. Thin crust is an option and they have a good drink selection too. But the service is always terrible. Drinks take FOREVER. I live across the street and go there all the time and it still takes forever. And this place is SUPER LOUD in the summer. Bands play there and people fill out onto the street, they don't keep the loud drunks in the bar where they should stay. People loiter in front of this place constantly when they have bands playing. And they have dishes on their lunch menu that they don't include on their dinner menu, even popular things like chicken fettucini alfredo. I love this dish and I call in to place orders for pick up. Many times I have called and ordered it and paid the lunch menu price, as it is a lunch menu item. This last time the bartender (who I believe is the owners son) had the nerve to try to charge me $3 more for ordering a LUNCH ITEM FOR DINNER! Like it took that much more labor to make the dish at night! I finally argued him down to the lunch price, while he gave me the disclaimer that the hostesses and waitstaff that served me before were wrong (I got the idea they were going to get in trouble) and he wouldn't be doing that for me again. Bad mistake. As much as I love their pizzas and pastas and Italian Sunrises ($9 drinks, btw) I have taken my business elsewhere, and haven't been back since.. If you aren't loyal to your customers they won't be loyal to you.

My boyfriend and I stopped here for dinner on our way to Spirit Mountain. We arrived just as they were stopping service so we got there in the nick of time. The Greek salad was the highlight. We were both raving about how delicious the salad was even after we were done eating it. The pizza was good too. The crust was thick and chewy. We got a small pepperoni and it wasn't greasy at all. The servers seemed anxious to clear the place out. I thought it was strange that it closed at 9pm on a Friday night but the servers were all polite and nice. The atmosphere was good and I'd definitely go back if I was driving through Salem again.

Husband could live on pizza- I've never really acquired the taste. His preferences lean to the red sauce extra meat selections, I'm a veggie feta style. As it was our anniversary in the spirit of compromise we selected his favorite food with my ingredient choice. Went with the greek pizza- fresh cheese, caramelized red onions (maybe cooked with garlic?) wilted spinach and Greek olives. Oh my word! Delicious. Both of us savored each bite- eating slowly enough that we allowed ourself to digest during the meal- resulting in eating smaller portions than usual. Looking forward to the remaining for lunch. Minus the full 5 stars only for atmosphere. We lucked out and got a corner window spot so maybe that's not fair- but those middle tables looked too cafeteria style for my taste. Will definitely return.

Dang! Now I'm really upset....the food was fine. However, near the kitchen we overheard some guy being extremely verbally abusive to someone named "Lisa." You didn't deserve to be treated that way, Lisa. I'm scared to return now.

Had dinner here on Monday with some friends. I was a little disappointed with them this time around. They took our orders, and we were one of two tables with customers. They completely forgot my partners order and we had to wait an additional 20 minutes for them to make his meal. The rest of us were just about finished when his meal arrived.

Nice place. Really. the Greek pizza I had was fab. Being right across the street from from Salem Cinema was very convenient for our double date night.

First off server didn't know what beer was on tap. Waited about 50 mins for food. A table of two, the same as us, that was seated before in our same section was served about 10 mins before us. All we ordered a small pizza with 2 toppings and a calzone. A table of four right across from us got there food right after us. They came in about 20 mins after us. Was it worth the wait? NO pizza was super burnt. I like crispy but this was disgusting. The cheese was burnt and the crust was black. Defiantly not coming here again. Should of gone to Padingtons or Walary's. I'd even go to JC Pizza in Keiozer over this place.

Best pizza in town if you can sit and wait. More than a pizzeria but the pizza takes the show. The beer selection is not anything to speak of, which is too bad.

Look, we all make mistakes sometimes. Dressing drunk, dating a cheater, ordering some other dish at a pizza restaurant, etc. You know the kinds of terrible mistakes I'm talking about. Despite my lack of reviewing ("Why bother? It's all already been written"), I do tend to Yelp before I go places. I would then have known - get pizza, expect mediocre service. We went for lunch. We got mediocre service. I didn't get the pizza. TERRIBLE. MISTAKE. I mean, no, nobody showed up and demanded I get a tattoo that says, "Clearly, I have made some poor decisions," but clearly I did make one right then. I got the meatball sandwich special. I gazed with envy upon my friend's pizza, as I was served a hollowed out baguette (really?) stuffed with large meatballs, minimal marinara, and unmelted cheese. I'm not going to sugar coat it - there was a moment where I thought about going to the Subway across the street and getting their meatball sandwich instead. It was accompanied by a pasta salad that came out of nowhere (I didn't even ask what the side would be - it was like luncheon roulette, mildly less dangerous than Russian). I would probably go back and try the pizza, but I'd stay away from the rest of the menu, if I were you. I mean, I should have known since it's got "pizzeria" in the name, but these things happen to the best of us. And like most of those before me, I concur the service was so so. We had time to ponder the meaning of the life while waiting for the check, and it was barely busy in the joint. Two stars may seem a little on the harsh side, but I'm willing to bump it up to three or four if the pizza blows my mind next time.

My daughter and I stopped in for a late lunch today (20 minutes before service stops). We were quickly seated, service was prompt and friendly and the pizzas we ordered were excellent! I mean like maybe the best pie I have ever eaten. The server was totally cool about our late arrival and substituing ingredients. Kid had a Garden something....mushrooms, olives, roasted garlic, red onion, green onion and pine nuts and I had a Combo subbing pepperoncinis and pine nuts for the mushrooms and olives. There were just enough of each ingredient to taste them all in each bite. The crusts were amazing- light, crisp chewy and perfectly cooked. Awesome red sauce. Shaved parmesan on both. We love this place.

I've been to Christo's multiple times and decided to take my family here when they came from Hawaii for my law school graduation. The combination pizza we had that day was excellent, and the salad was also good. The pizza crust was awesome, and the sauce and toppings were flavorful. I personally recommend the combo or the margherita pizza, but you can't go wrong here on pizza selection.

I used to live in Chicago. I have longed for so long for a pizza in Oregon I could get excited about. Then I found Christos Greek Pizza, pizza of he Greek gods. Now when my Midwest friends visit, they make Christos their very first stop. Thank you thank you Christos!!!

My favorite restaurant in Salem since the time it was the little hole in the wall on church street. They make one of the best pizzas with firm and tasty crust, great spicy or savory ingredients, and have really good salads as well. Make sure to try the greek or pesto pizza (with real, thick, pesto). The other thing is that they have great micro-brew on tap. Of course this is the NW so most restaurants do, but after moving to California that's become a rare nice find. Pretty cheap prices too. A $20 pie serves three easily.

Probably the best pizza in Salem. Tasty. Kid-friendly, but good for a night out too.

Great food but lousy service. We checked Yelp and arrived on a Sat nite while driving thru the area. We were seated in the back room. Only the cocktail waitress behind the bar was available to wait on tables there while having to make drinks for the entire restaurant. No one came over to offer water or take our order. We sat there for 15 min before calling over the manager. The pizza was excellent. Better service would have resulted in 5 stars.

Nice atmosphere, very crowded on a Saturday night. I had the pizza, which I thought was bland...like eating straight-up dough. The waitress was very nice, but the service was a little slow. I would give it another chance and try something else to be fair.

In Salem on a mini-vacation and yelped "Italian" to try to find a non-chain restaurant. Absolutely loved this place! The atmosphere is nice, very large, open floor plan with high ceilings and they still managed to keep it comfortably warm inside which is nice in OR as it's always RAINING! The food is very good. Very good. And the prices are VERY GOOD. We got the large caesar salad to share, garlic cheese bread and a large half margherita half pepperoni pizza. There were four of us and it was definitely enough. The bill only came to $40. So very, very good prices. Also NO SALES TAX in OR. Yay! So about the food... the caesar was okay. Definitley not the best I've had, but no where near the worst. The garlic cheese bread was very good: A thin layer of bread with a thick layer of mozzarella, followed by another layer of bread and another layer of mozzarella... very cheesy. The pizza was the best. The dough is very yeasty. Thick and soft and chewy on the edges. The only reason I'm giving Christos a four-star review is our waiter. He just looked very bored, uninterested and not so friendly. Other than that, it was a very nice experience and I would definitely go back if I'm ever in rainy OR again.

My wife loves pizza. She could eat it for every meal of every day. When we decide to get pizza Christos is the first choice. Perhaps the only thing holding us back from frequenting more often is that it is a good thirty minute drive from home. This is not cheap pizza. This is a little spendy but it is top quality in every way. The crust, which my wife says makes the pizza, is sublime. The toppings are just plentiful enough without being overwhelming. Everything is in perfect balance; crust, sauce, cheese, toppings. Christos has a full menu of other dishes but we can't seem to stray from their pizza. For my money they have set the gold standard for pizza in Salem.

I love authentic Italian style pizza and this is fast becoming one of my favorite places to eat. The choices are very good and they have both the traditional thin crust and also the very thin, crisp crust. All with very good ingredients. They have larger pizzas for dinner but also serve all their pizza in a mini, individual style for lunch. lunch pizza run $7-8 and are well worth it. The layout and design creates a nice atmosphere and is not too quiet but not overly noisy either. There is a new three screen theater (Salem Cinema) that show independent films. My wife and I enjoy dinner and then a walk across the street for a movie. Summer time brings outdoor seating which is popular. I had a glitch where my debit card was charged WAY over the cost of lunch. This turned out to be a bank screw up and not the fault of the restaurant. I called and the owner contacted the bank, called me back the next day and gave me the lunch for free. Great customer service.

Easily the best pizza you will eat in Salem. Moderate pricing, high quality ingredients and very nice wait staff make it a treat to hang and eat a slice or two.... or the whole pizza...

You know, sometimes I think my fellow yelpers have the compassion of angry wolverines. I know it's food, but really folks, you might want to give the servers a second chance sometimes. Case in point is Christos. Drop 2 stars because the service is bad? Hello, it's a pizzeria, not a Michelin 2-star. That said, I do think that Christos management could do a little more to convince the staff to lose the teenage attitude,. And it would help if everyone knew what beers are on tap. Seriously, though, what's with only 2 beers on tap? We're in Oregon, for Pete's sake, the heart of microbrew country, all you have is one local brew and one Italian? Shameful, really. And exactly 3 other beers? WTF? This speaks of pretentions of italianness. Please, fix this. But don't you dare change the crust. Tasty, tasty dough, the product of a long rise, I think, cooked to blistery perfection, and topped with real yumminess. A good selection of toppings, missing nothing important, and including some specials like fresh mozz. Mmmm. As someone else pointed out, veering from pizza is risky, and my wife's chicken Marsala was mediocre. The pasta with sausage and peas was tasty enough, the caesar was clearly not bottled but otherwise undistinguished, and the cheesy bread appetizer would have been better had it been hotter, ditto the marinara. All in all, a place to come back to when we visit.

Looks like some hipsters have transitioned from baristas to pizza makers. They make pizza just as good as they make coffee. Sat in the restaurant and had yummy pizza while watching a hipster toss dough. No Italians here just good old hipsters. Trendy place, great pizza, awesome crust.

Would have given this a 5 star but the pizza we make is the best. For Salem, this could be the best pizza in town. Great pizza for a price, if you usually spend $17-25 for a pie then this is the place. If you like to have artificial pizza delivered to you for less than 10 bucks, don't stop here. We enjoy this pizza for the ingredients and crust. The atmosphere of the place is great, location is off the beaten path so parking isn't to bad. The toppings that we have had tasted fresh and had lots of flavor, no processed flavor in them like you will get at a cheap pizza house. The cheese covers the entire pizza as it should, and every bite will give you a great topping. Beer, wine and soda are your beverage choices, and all go great with the pizza. We have done take-out and it was great also.

I was a little wary of trying this place, just because of the complaints about the service, but we sat at the bar and had great service -- I noticed others were a little more disgruntled than we were, though, so I think when we go back it will be to the bar again. The pizza was delicious, the best we've had in Salem so far - we did a large rosso with fresh mozz, roasted garlic, san marzano tomatoes and pepperoni. The crust was OK, a little thick for my taste but still had a nice flavor. We split a small caesar salad (which was still pretty big) and I noticed that the romaine had seen better days, but the dressing itself tasted homemade and authentic. Wine/beer selection was a little sad, but well-priced. Desserts looked fancy! Overall it was a little spendy but the pizza was huge and SO good. We'll definitely be back.

While visiting Salem on a college visit we actually found Christos on Yelp. Boy, were we glad we did. This was a great find and a very romantic dinner (while our son was on an overnight visit at a local college) that is a little off the beaten path. We had a great dining experience. It started with a couple glasses of wine, a spinach salad and a salmi pizza. All were great and of high quality and you know when you eat good pizza when the next day you eat it cold and it was fantastic. We would definitely eat here if we ever returned to Salem, which is improbable since my son chose another college. You never know. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

The pizza makes it worth the hassle of the under-skilled and confrontational staff. While it was a busy lunch, I certainly don't think I deserved the explicit words thrown my way by a hairy faced server who obviously was not handling the siutaiton well. Here is a quick recap of my experience: We were seated to his dismay and then ignored for 15 minutes. The next couple to come in was seated and had water and placed an order before we recieved water. When we inquired if we could get some water and place an order, he started to yell at us. (awkward!) At that point I mentioned we were too much (refering to the volume of people) for them to handle and that we would leave. (polite but firm) As we stood up, he then cursed me and my 2 companions. I know much of that day's customers heard the ordeal and don't imagine it was pleasent for them either. I was offered a gift certificate by the owner on my way out the door but at that point I felt like, "Why would I ever want to come back?" During the conversation the owner said she would fire someone who used the vocabulary I described, but I later found out that he was still employed, another drawback in my mind. I did use the gift cert and the pizza is good, but ordered to go both times and don't think I will chose to spend my money there anymore. It only took one bad apple on their staff to ruin it for me. Maybe something for them to consider when hiring next time.

My husband and I love pizza so we decided to try this place, and it was totally worth it. The breadsticks were the best that I have ever had, definitely need to get them if you go. The service was great, also. Our waitress and the girl that brought us to our table were so sweet!

Christo's serves the best pizza I've ever had, hands down. You can't order by the slice, but the wait for a whole, fresh-made pie is definitely worth it. The Greek pizza is amazing and I would definitely recommend it. The wait staff is always very friendly, and the atmosphere is nice. Good location, too. Right across the street from Salem Cinema, and down the street from Boon's Treasury.

We love this pizza. Christos is an upscale pizza restaurant. The new location has a really nice atmosphere. The service has always been top-notch and often entertaining. A perfect place for a relaxed dinner or lunch out. This is my favorite place to meet with friends.

The atmosphere is very intimate and feels like a great Italian escape. The restaurant is small and low-lit with soft yellow lights and candles and interesting artwork. Despite how much I liked the feel of the place, what I'd really like to rave about is the pizza. It was utterly divine. First of all, I love pizza. I'd even be tempted to rave about an english muffin with sauce and cheese on top as "wonderful" because anything resembling pizza usually brings my taste-buds great joy. However, this is truly wonderful pizza--even by the higher 'east-coast' standard of pizza. The crust is tasty without being too thick. The sauce is perfect and the toppings are fresh and original. The pizza is expensive, but worth every penny. I love this place and I think (aside from Lefty's Pizza, which is a runner-up) it is the best place in town for good pizza.

if you're into gourmet style pizza, this is the place for you. The place is quaint and intimate. Good for hanging out or taking a date, but not somewhere you'd go on a lunch break. The service is great and food is pretty decent for the most part. Plus there's a nice movie theater directly across the street. Worth checking out at least once.

These guys have the best pizza in Salem Oregon and some would say the state of Oregon. With a fun family atmosphere and back room for music they seem to have found a great new home on Broadway.

This is the best pizza in Salem. Fresh ingredients, hand-tossed crust, carefully constructed. We're also very classy people and tend to run into our classy friends when we are here! Imagine that...

Not a five-star place -- but very close. What makes it four stars? The quality of pizza is the best in Salem. You can tell that they care about their ingredients. Their dinner menu is large -- and mostly vegetarian...which really good pizza should be. Salad quality is good. The pizza itself is a little doughy at the ends (a lot of fluff) -- and the crust isn't really crispy good -- but it suffices. The overall quality and value for the buck -- is what sells this place. This pizza is not as good as Apizza Scholls (in PDX), but it ranks a close second. Nothing beats Apizza Scholls. But since Salem is Salem -- Christos is pretty darn good. The interior has a warehouse feel -- pretty open and light. The fan above our table though was blowing our napkins everywhere. Our service guy was really nice -- but he seemed to be over-worked and running around everywhere. So attentiveness wasn't the best -- but he was a good guy. It's pretty much an open kitchen -- where you can watch the staff in action. We went just as they opened on a Saturday evening, and the place was full within 15 minutes. And being the first group in the door, it shouldn't have taken 40 minutes (from being seated) for the pizza to arrive. All these reasons make it not 5 stars. And it is only 4 stars due to its amazing pizza. Which on a side note -- I believe that their pizza is even better cold out of the fridge. Not many places can say that.

I love pizza, and Ive had great pies from Portland, Chicago, New York and LA., etc. Christos is very average as far as top shelf pies go, but considering it's in Salem I'll take it. The food in this town is generally sorry if you've ever lived in a city with a major independent food culture. My main gripe with cristos really, Is the service. Or lack of it. I love it (not really) when places starved for good food get a place like this that frankly seem to feel like it's a priviledge for folks to eat in their establishment. Overly "hip" grumpy and short attention span employees that need to work on there people skills. Customer service is always desired in any business, regardless of atmosphere. You can get far better pizza, great service and nice Indy quirky decorations in Portland. I hope Salem keeps growing it's Indy food scene, someday a treasure will come through. Still, as far as Salem goes it's ok pizza. Price is fair.

This is an update from last time. I ordered a ton of pizza for my hubby's birthday to go. The person taking the order made sure they would have enough dough for our order. They had it ready on time and everyone loved it.

Great decor and ambiance. I dig the way the interior is decorated. Service was friendly and prompt. Pasta was average and a bit overpriced for what you get. No bread or salad included in entree price either. $5 to add 2 small meatballs?? Mediocre rossa pizza. Sauce didn't have enough flavor or there just wasn't enough on the pizza-- still not sure which it was but all I tasted was cheese. I had decent hope for their pie given the dearth of good pizza in Salem but alas it turned out to be another disappointment. Is there no option other than driving up to Portland?

I came here for the Sons of Huns concert last night. It was a small lounge and the music was super loud. Maybe I'm getting old, but the size of the lounge and the intensity of the music was hard for me. Overall, the food wasn't bad. I had the Attilios Garden Pizza. The crust was dense, but the veggies on it were good. Servers were kind, but it still took quite a wait for the food. This isn't a place I would think of to come to again.
