Had lunch here yesterday. Bacon burger- didn't impress me because the hamburger patty just tasted like fried hamburger without any seasoning. French fries- the only good food-- crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Coffee- bitter & burnt tasting; quite gross. Was never asked for a refill which I would have refused. Service- quite inferior. We weren't acknowledged when we entered, we sat at the table for more than 15 minutes per my watch: waiting for menus and for someone to ask if we wanted anything to drink. When a server finally did come over for our drink order, she went somewhere only to never be seen again at our table (there were six of us) but she was waiting on other tables just not ours. Then another server came over to us and asked what we wanted to eat, well we still never received our coffees, waters and sodas, so she did go back to the kitchen to get the drinks and waters! Was that first server having a bad day? But after the second server came back with our drinks, she took our order which arrived at a descent time- we didn't have to wait until Christmas for our food. Would I ever eat here again? No.

Great atmosphere, decor and service with. A nice small town feel. The biscuits and gravy are horrible! I seriously thoufht they were vegetarian, there might have been one tiny sliver of sausage. The pancakes and waffles are pretty good. The soups are from a box/ can as well so ask if what you are getting is premade or homemade.

On my many adventures out west on Highway 30, I found good food places to be hard to come by. St Helens and Scappoose have a lot of chain restaurants that I have no interest in, so I tend to keep driving west. I found The Cornerstone cafe a few years ago, and I do love it. It's a cute little neighborhood spot, and all the waitresses are as sweet as pie. Food portions are huge, so come hungry!

Today I took my daughter to our favorite Rainier breakfast spot cleared our table of dirty dishes cleaned it & gave the waitress her slip left on the table. We sat there for 15 minutes as we watched her wait on 2 other tables that came in after us, she never acknowledged us gave us water Nothing...even though I said hi to her when we came in as I always come here!! Finally we got up & left & went to Stuffy's in Longview were we had great service there & great food....sooo disappointed in my hometown spot

Excellent eggs and awsome bacon. The biscuits and gravy were yummy. Great service! I would definitely come here again.

One of the best choices for breakfast lunch and dinner in the Rainier and Longview area. Homey cafe with homemade comfort food. My favorite are the homemade soups.

It's well known to Columbia County folk that the Cornerstone is the best local diner in the county. There have been many to come and go, but this place stays round because of how dang good the food is! Good pie, good beer, great service and mighty-fine steak fries. I would recommend the Mushroom Swiss burger they have, with steak fries of course. Go there a few times and they might just start calling you by first name, or at.the very least remember you. Don't let the pizza place across the street lure you in, you know you want real food.

Amazingly good food and great prices. They really put a lot of love and care into their service. Waitress was friendly and personable. Wonderful experience. We will be returning.

Great food! I have had a variety of the salads, Hawaiian chicken burger, fish and chips and the soups are always a good choice. Waitress are always very friendly and quick. Would highly recommend the Cornerstone Cafe for dinner.

The atmosphere is very nice, clean and bright. The handmade potato chips were AMAZING! I've never enjoyed chips more. We had a Bacon Bleu Burger and Patty Melt. Both were great. Their pies look delicious; but we were to full to indulge in them.... maybe next time :)

Great stop off the highway with a nice selection of homemade items. Servers working hard with a smile. I had the hot roast beef sandwich and it was fantastic and comforting. Nice selection on the menu. My kids started with cheese sticks and used the yelp check in award. They were cooked perfectly. Stop in and enjoy a family owned Classic American restaurant. I will again the next time I get the chance.

What more can you expect from your hometown meeting place? Rainier is a typical small town + adjoining rural area. There are no chain franchises aside from the Chevron and Shell stations, no real grocery store, and everyone in the area is either related or knows each other (maybe the last one is an exaggeration, but it sure seems like it). The Cornerstone, located appropriately on a street corner, is perfect as a local meeting place, but it affords as much to those who are just passing through, with decor that feels right at home (excluding the men's room full of vintage signs and posters), and cheerful, friendly staff. I have eaten breakfast at this place twice, and I have found it very enjoyable both times. The sausage links are a MUST, they are über delicious, and are worth it alone. Sadly, they aren't homemade, but they are from the region (not sure where, though.) The biscuits and gravy are slightly disappointing, due to a lack of sausage, but are tasty nonetheless. Add an array of egg and omelet options, pancakes and waffles, and coffee, and you have a perfect breakfast, whether you are going to Seattle, or are just out the door earlier than usual.

Amazing food and great service. We brought our two dogs and sat outside. They immediately brought us out ham and water for the babies. My new favorite place :)

4 stars instead of 5, because it isn't a 5 star restaurant. It is a very good café/coffee shop. The pancakes are large and fluffy, the burgers are good, their Dave Dave omelet is excellent, their chef salad is probably the best I've had at a café and their chili omelet is definitely the best I've had. Their milk shakes look delicious, served in the metal cups and their coffee is pretty good. So far only the calamari would get one star. The servers a polite, fun and attentive to me. I've seen some ignoring when it gets busy. I live walking distance from another café, but drive 19 miles one way to go here.

Fabulous! Awesome food and service! Pleasantly surprised. Dinner was excellent...steak with an 'old fashion' cooked baked potato. Hubs had the fried chicken--freshly battered and was served piping hot and crispy! Their dinner salad is second to none. Something you would find in a high-end Portland restaurant. Looking forward to going for breakfast!! Downside -- it was a super HOT day and the dining room was a bit stuffy!! However--did not deter our appetite! Downtown Rainier is quaint and quiet. Take the time after your meal to take a walk to the small marina.

Came here looking for a good burger... but my wife and I were both distracted by the many other delicious sounding offerings on the menu. We had heard good things about this place and they did not disappoint! Both the service and the food were excellent! We will certainly return return again! Thank you!

This place has a special place in my heart! Amazing owners and perfect food for a small town setting. Try the onion rings with blue cheese and the NOAH NATOR....if you dare! The milkshakes are the best and so hard to find anywhere nowadays. Tillamook Ice cream and REAL TOPPINGS! Order a dinner entree and get a salad that is one my favorites out before your meal! The fried chicken is THE BOMB! You wont be sorry you stopped!

Try the chicken fried pile up!!!! It reminds me of the greasy spoons I grew up with but with fairly good food.

Cornerstone is a terrific local diner - not trendy, not gourmet, not a gathering of hipsters, but a cafe where locals & travelers come for a dependable, hot meal. The prices are moderate, the food tasty & the staff friendly. Since we ate here several times over the course of 2 weeks, the Yelp $10 for a $20 coupon and 50% off appetizer deals were great!

A regular stop on Sunday's during the grandkid swap. From root beer floats to gin and tonic, a drink can be found for even the pickiest. Today I had the powerball burger, yes it comes with a lottery ticket. The burger has bacon, cheese, homemade Dijon mustard and thinly sliced Granny Smith apples on a pub bun-a tasty combination that will drip down your hands and face. It is a winner, regardless of the status of my ticket...grandkids split the regular deep fried shrimp, since the kid menu is "boring" their words, not mine. At 1:00 our group of 6 snagged the last table and a group of 8 was turned away.. We were told to make reservations to insure we get a table. Great service for a full establishment. We were checked on a couple times. Yes, the food is that good. diner food, most from scratch and reasonable prices. I can understand why today it seemed like the whole town of Rainier was there for lunch.

This is mine and my dad's regular place to eat. I've never had a problem with service unlike some of the other reviewers. Food is always out quick and tastes amazing. staff are all the small town sweeties! One of my favorite places to eat and I'll always come back :)

I ate here after crossing the Lewis & Clark Bridge outta the dreaded meth haven hellhole known as Longview, Washington. My expectations were set to medium, but I was instantly thoroughly impressed with the simplicity and consistency of the décor. I ordered the Philly Hot Dogs, which were Angus beef dogs, grilled peppers and onions, mayonnaise and melted Swiss. Naturally, I exchanged my side of French fries for a cup of salmon chowder, which, in my opinion, was the right thing to do. All in all, I was very happy with my meal. The service was a little slow, but they legitimately seemed a bit understaffed. It was probably something as simple as one waitress bangin' in sick, or something along those lines. The food was fresh and left me without a single complaint. It was one of the better meals I had had in weeks. Far better than I would have assumed. Good enough where I would go back there again without hesitation. It made me glad that I didn't eat food in Longview. That place SUCKS! P.S. - My wife won $64.75 with a single $5.00 bet on the Oregon Lottery's Video Gaming program. So, I basically got PAID to eat at this place!

On a roadtrip, desperately hungry, I searched Yelp and found this place. The other reviewers are a little too positive about the food compared to what I experienced. Ever seen Kitchen Nightmares? Well, this place could be on that show. It's small-town cute walking in: there's a big community board and tons of shabby chic junk on the walls with inspirational sayings. The waitresses were extremely cheerful and friendly people, really, they could not have been sweeter, but the food is just the opposite. It's edible, but left my stomach aching to throw up the grease bomb within it on the ride home. I ordered a plain burger that dripped grease when I bit into it. I ate less than half my portion of fries, which are reheated from frozen, like much of the menu. Maybe they are trying to save money, but the result is food that has no love in it. I should have held out for the Burgerville in St Helens where their menu holds some hopeful buzzwords like "local" and "fresh". And please, rip out your super-stained blackened carpet. The rest of the place seemed clean enough.

We decided to drive down to Ranier one night to have dinner and watch the river go by, the Mexican restaurant was jammed and we were hungry so we tried this place which was across the street. No view of the river but we had a great meal. You never know what to expect in a small town family restaurant but we were quite happy. The place is cute and clean and the staff are friendly and competent. They have a large menu with several interesting choices. My wife had the turkey dinner which she loved and I had teriyaki chicken breast which I enjoyed. We have since made the trip several times for breakfast, lunch and dinner and so far have not had a bad experience yet. It is very reasonably priced and they serve good food on a consistent basis. We always look forward to our trips thought Ranier now.

This was my first trip to Oregon and I was hopeful the food would be good in this small town. I ended up here after I decided I would rather not eat at all if I had to eat in Longview. I loved that they had a mysterious curtain that cloaked a seedy gambling room which I had to partake in before leaving. Food was really good! It took a while for them to take our order but once they did it was all blue skies from there.

I had the pleasure of dining here recently. I must say I was truly impressed! Firstly, this must be the cleanest restaurant I have ever dined in, its very apparent every where you look. Also the decor is very warm and cozy, (it feels like coming home). All this is great, but where the rubber meets the road with any restaurant is with the food, and let me just say they do not disappoint. Excellent quality at a very reasonable price. I most recently ate the "Noahnator burger", Huge and tasty! Dinners have always impressed me also, especially the freshness of the ingredients. Definitely recommend.

The Stone (as we affectionately call it) is the best restaurant in the area! Hands down. Whenever we are in town visiting our family, we visit The Stone several times. My husband especially loves the bacon (always juicy and pipping hot) and his favorite item for breakfast is an omelet called The Dave Dave. It's certainly not for the faint of heart since it's the most delicious meat lovers omelet you will ever try. Personally, the pancakes are my love. Always fluffy and served with warm syrup! I must also add that the coffee is always fresh here. I'm a former server and I know these gals don't "marry the coffee pots" here! A nice, strong, hot cup of coffee is a must and any breakfast place and The Stone never fails! As far as lunch or dinner goes, I strongly recommend the burgers! They are always fresh and juicy - nothing like a typical diner would serve. We've never had bad service and the place is always super clean. Overall, it's very warm and welcoming and I always feel like I'm with family when I'm there. Finally, be sure to say hi to Chief Dustin and tell him to keep up the great work!!!!

We've eaten here a couple times, definitely a "locals place" The pancakes are really good, and the bacon eggs breakfast is average. The decor is very nice. the service however is not great if you aren't recognized by staff. Staff seems to be more attentive to regulars which is a mistake. As out of towners will recommend a friendlier spot.

Hey I-5 commuters between Seattle and Portland. Do you want to hit up a diner with good food, great small town service, and a quaint ambiance? This is the place for you. Many diner favorites are cooked well. Bullet points: 1. LOVE their pancakes 2. A bit off I-5 so it's hard to find for commuters. Not a 'quick stop on our way to...' kinda place. You'll have to work to get here. 3. 3 Walmarts within a 15 minute drive of this place. There ya go.

French dip is good. Onion rings rocked. Philly Cheese dogs were excellent as well. Was disappointed that both chicken tenders and fish from fish and chips were frozen, so I skipped those. Will be back for sure.

Took my family here after being told they have a great prime rib special on Friday nights. OMG do they ever! My prime rib was juicy, cut thick and delicious! And the green salad, fresh mushrooms, beets, and cucumber, oh so good! We will be back!

My family decided to make this place a pit stop on the way home (albeit a bit out of the way) from visiting Mt. St. Helens in Wa. The waitress was a bit flighty, but nice and had reasonable timing. Half the tables were dirty, but I can't speak to the number of waiters/waitresses staffed. I think there were two and we saw three other people in the restaurant when we came in. However, within twenty minutes, another seven to nine arrived. My husband and I ordered the burger. My children ordered the double hotdog meal. A word to the naïve: the hot dogs are huge! My kids both said they would have ordered a single hot dog meal had they known and they are eaters. Our burgers were disappointing. They patties are straight from the mass production freezer junk. The only thing that made them appetizing was the grill cooking method lending them some flavor. My meat patty had a large unappetizing chunk of gristle in it. Yuck! My onion was red onion and very fresh and delicious. The pickles were a bit vinegary. The tomato was your typical under-ripe tomato. Honestly, with a mom and pop local joint, I was really hoping for local sourced food and unique flavor. It didn't have to be fancy, just fresh. The season waffle fries were delicious! I definitely recommend them over the regular fries. Another nuisance was the potato salad. My dh got the fries and half his plate was covered. I got the potato salad and it was literally an old time small ice cream scoop size if that; two, maybe three bites! I don't eat much, but after leaving part of my burger due to gristle gross out and then that tiny smidge of potato salad, I left hungry. As others have said, this is food you could make for a lot less with cheap mass produced stuff from any grocery store for less than a quarter the price. The service was nice with free angled parking out front and the ambience of the location was charming. Unless they change things up, we won't be back.

I thought that I would update my review. I have been coming here for about 2 years now and still love it. I love the breakfast here. It is always fresh and flavorfull and usually more than I can eat. They have no issues with special requests, changes and/or substitutions. They also have a great special all the time. The staff is always amiable and quite enjoyable and will chat with anyone and about anything. It is just an enjoyable place to go. No, there is no air conditioning. Well, so what. That rules out coming here one or two days a year. I am not retired but love to talk to the other regulars that are. If you fish or would like to, there is always on old seasoned fish-veteran that can point you to hot spots. Nothing wrong with that. If Vickie is there, she will usually make it around to see how you are and remembers faces well. She and the other staff are upbeat and friendly and that makes for a nice visit as well. I have never had any issues with food here and know for a fact that others have had easy fixes to stuff that was an issue. They seem to care and want your experience to be good.

so my husband and i are from longview and we went to rainier days on sat. and were starving for good lunch.we always see many people there so we thought hey must have some good food. mind you we are both in the food industry. they weren't very busy, took at least 5 min to get our menus then another 25 min. for the waitress to take our order, and 35 min. to get our food. i ordered the captains platter i love seafood but this was horrible, the clams were so rubbery you couldn't even bite them in half the shrimp was well over cooked and the halibut was dry, my husband got a mushroom burger there was probably 15 mushrooms on there and he said it was gross. i say if you charge 13.50 for something please make it edible, i was very disappointed i had better things to do on my birthday. i did want to add something there was a party of 7 waiting to sit but all tables were dirty and the gentleman actually went and got a bus tub from the bussing station and bussed his own table.
