We picked up food to go as the place was recommended and it was the worst chinese food I have ever had. The deep fried chicken was not completely cooked with raw batter and the food was oily and did not even taste good. I was very disappointed by the quality and we didnt even get the correct items we ordered.

Oh yes, definitely don't judge this place by its cover. Their Chinese food is good. Don't come in with a Panda Express state of mind, this is not fast food. It's a bit pricey but it's worth it. The staff is always nice.

The owners were working in Oak St. before but this Wong Garden has been taking over by new owners. The original owners are the major chefs in Woodstock Blvd. The rating was earned by the previous owners who are the chefs in another location now; this is 4309 SE Woodstock Blvd., Portland, OR 97206. I highly recommend everyone to visit Wong's Garden in Woodstock Blvd. I have lived in Portland for more than 15 years and whenever I thought about lunch, dinner or hosting co-workers, Wong's Garden is the best choice that I can think of. Among all the dishes, Mongolia Beef, Tofu dishes, spring rolls, fried rice are #1 because the authenticity and its rich flavor. The amount of the beef and food is way more than its price. The owners only use the best organic ingredients and cooking oil for customers. The location is a little too far from where I live and work but it is worthy the driving to enjoy a high-quality meal with such a reasonable price range. I highly recommend every visitor or tourist to visit Wong's Garden when you are visiting Rose City, Portland, OR. Written by Dr. Trudy in Portland, OR DrTrudy.com

I've been to the Wongs Garden on S.E. Woodstock in Portland before and for Chinese Food around this area, its not bad. Plenty of food for what you pay for, although they do tend to bulk it up with vegetables! We read the reviews on Yelp and thought we would give them a try. It's pretty much the same restaurant, obviously. I think the service here in Milwaukee is a little faster but the food is still just as good as their southeast location . I had the House Kung Pao. ($11.50) "Huge portion". Granted it was 4/5 vegetables.... It was still pretty good. Plenty of scallops, chicken and prawns. It comes with white rice but that was an afterthought for me. I spent my time digging through and finding all the delicious meat. The menu said it was spicy but I did not think so at all! I saw what I thought might be spices. After a few bites I was unimpressed. The "SHOWSTOPPER" was the (omygoodness) large Crab Puffs. Most places have crab puffs but they pale in comparison. These crab puffs are at least 4X bigger than most. And... And... They are creamy and delicious! The food comes out as it's ready. Not all at once. That's fine for most people but not everyone likes that kind of service. The staff were all friendly and the restaurant was nice and clean. We will definitely be back again.

I mostly order take out but when I dine in, the portions are HUGE. Food is fantastic, quick service, prices very fair, especially for the amount you get. Take Out orders can be tricky but I have never had one messed up. I've gotten whatever extra I needed, down to extra red sauce and chopsticks. Good location in relation to my residence, on the way to work. Can call it in before I leave the house and 10 min later its hot and ready to go.

The food here is reasonably priced and super yummy! They have probably the best egg rolls I have had in a LONG time! And the portions cannot be beat. Honestly, each combination meal is enough for 3 small meals. Looking to save money? Get one meal and it's more than enough for 2 people! :-)

Not bad for the money! Go to Wong's!!! Let's just be honest, Chinese food in Portland is pretty much gone. At least the good ones. The ones that were great have seen their glory days come and gone. It's becoming rare to find a good neighborhood Chinese place good for families or take out that isn't just another Oregon Lotto business that happens to serve Chinese food. You won't see a lotto sign at Wong's Garden and thankfully so! I don't go here often, as the Thai and Vietnamese options in the Milwaukie/Sellwood North Clackamas area are far better, but this place has it's charms. Menu is diverse with lots of veggie options. I had the Curry Tofu recently and was pleasantly surprised. The portions are large, and even though $10-12 for take out seems a bit high, the value is there. Decently spiced, with a fair amount of sauce, and plenty of rice with it. Restaurant is very clean, and they treat you well. Even offering tea for to go customers. Sometimes our American style Chinese food just hits the right spot, and if you're looking to hit it.......in a sense........this is one of the best!

Meh, I have had better Chinese food. For example; Shandong Restaurant, fresh and delicious. This place is just your typical subpar American Chinese food. Blah! You'd be better off going to Suway on your left.

The food are delicious and the serving amount of their food is ridiculously A LOT. One meal, but good for two, so a to-go box is a necessity when you eat here. The server is nice and funny. The prices are fine for the meal.

We arrived a half hour before closing, wait staff was friendly and curtious. Food was marginal, egg foo young was tough and lacked veggies and no brown sauce only yellow. I asked about the freshness of the veggies in the chicken chow mein and evidently you can request fresh veggies. I didn't know to ask so mine weren't. General tso' chicken was good, had a light citrusy taste. We did find gristle in a couple bites. Grossed me out a bit. I seriously wanted this to be a great experience after reading all the reviews. Why is it so hard to find a good Chinese restaurant with fresh vegetables and good flavor?

  • Tara S.

The crab puffs were good and plentiful. The beef lo mein was a good portion size, and it tasted good. I appreciated that the person taking my order asked if I'd like chopsticks or forks, as I often forget to ask for chopsticks. I think if my order had been complete, I'd probably give it four stars. But since my order was missing the vegetable spring rolls, it's impossible to give it above an "I've experienced better." It certainly wasn't a-ok. So, I'm giving it two stars for this experience, but the food I received and the service would warrant at least four stars. Still, I watch a lot of chef competition shows, and they're all about how you have to judge what's on the plate. Sometimes, really good contestants get eliminated for silly things, like missing elements. That's what happened here. I'd still recommend the place to a friend, and I might even try them again. BUT, I'd double check my order before it got tied up tightly in the plastic bag.

I would come here on a regular basis when I lived in the area, and thought the food was good. It has been 4 years and find myself in the area again. I wanted food late at night after painting all day. I did not feel like putting in a lot of effort for dinner. Picked up some almond fried chicken, fried rice, and subgum to go. The food was similar to what I experienced in the past but far more greasy than I remember. I put some of it away, and then put some away in the garbage. I have to give them credit for good and prompt service, but the food was too greasy. Not good greasy, bad greasy. What did I learn today? Bay Area Chinese food significantly changes your Chinese food expectations.

Ok, I am from Hawaii and the Chinese food is very different from the mainland. I have been going here the past 4 years and it is by far the best homestyle Chinese food I have had here by far. They are friendly accommodating and just plain awesome. Eat the Beef chow fun you will not regret it!

I wish I could be more confident that this is actually chicken. It was close to my sister's house and my niece insisted on Chinese, how can we say no? We ordered family style and all got to sample a few different dishes, they were all just OK. Service was good and the place was fairly clean. We all felt a little sluggish afterwards. I wouldn't go out of my way.

The best eggrolls in the Portland metro area. Huge portions. The staff are polite. Just have an enjoyable experience each time I visit.

Suffered another bad American-Chinese Meal in Milwaukee today. My combo meal featured fried rice and chowmein, but the noodles were these crackers things with soupy-sautee of celery and beanspouts and pork. Super soggy gross. Well they saw the horror on my face and redid my order (with extra charge) and it was had the same gross toppings. Hey I'm not looking for HK Café authentic chowfun/chowmein, but at least Wan Lung over in Sunnyside can make a good plate of chicken chowmein better than Panda Express. These place just is terrible. I left most of the food on the plate and didn't take any home. This is a rare sight at my table. No problem with the service so I didn't stiff them on the tip, but the cook staff and the menu need a makeover. I'm so disappointed that this completely Asian staff should know what they would expect in Chinese cooking but fail to bring it to the table. guess i still need to drive to the east side of town for my Chinese food.

Wong's Garden displayed downright asian excellence during my initial experience. I was introduced to Wong's Garden by some close friends and it came highly recommended. The service was spectacular. They made absolutely sure that I was taken care of from how the food was to refilling my water glass. These people are amazing with such wonderful service. The food was delectable! The portion sizes are LARGE. You will have leftovers for breakfast tomorrow. One entree could feed two people. Thanks for hooking it up Wong's Garden. Bravo, just bravo.

Wong's has been a Milwaukie staple for a long time - and for good reason. The kitchen is consistent in its output, you never get varied flavors in your Chinese food if you order the same things as I do. The prices are fair, portions are generous and food is very tasty! If you like Chinese food, you need to come to Wong's!

I came here when I was craving Chinese. It was close by and had a decent rating. My boyfriend and roommate came by to try it out. We were disappointed. The food was oily, bland and was mono-flavored. The sweet and sour pork had only a strong sweet flavor, and the char-siu was dry. The portions were large, that is why I'm giving it a 2 star rating. I would not recommend goin here.

definitely a lot for what you pay for. The staff is always welcoming and service is quick. They always seem to go out of there way to make sure the customer is satisfied. Always the place we go after a long days work and want a great quick meal.

Went here for lunch today, after hubby and I wondered why we hadn't been here in so long when we work nearby. Now we remember. There wasn't anything wrong, really. Everything was piping hot, and the BBQ pork was some of the best I've had, really moist and tasty. Everything was kind of bland though. Hubby's Mongolian beef was bland, and I'm not sure how that is possible. However the service is wonderful and the staff as friendly as you could ask for, and attentive without being intrusive. So...it will probably be a few more years before we come back, after trying to remember why we haven't been here in a while. Imperial Garden on McLoughlin is your best bet if you don't mind traveling a little farther.

First time in this Chinese restaurant. Very friendly staff. Restaurant is very clean. About 70% of the tables were occupied by customers for lunch. Service was very fast! Got my order before I can finish a cup of soup! I ordered General's Tso Chicken. Order came with rice, fried won tons and huge egg roll. I used to General's Tso to be spicy, but it was not. It looked and tasted more like Orange chicken. I did not care about fried rice either. They did not have my favorite Sriracha hot sause. I thought every asian restaurant should have the most selling hot sause in the world. Maybe I should order something different next time if I come back

I am always at this shopping center, one day I was craving Chinese food. Big portions of food I have ever seen in a Chinese restaurant. Very attentive, friendly staff we I come by wong's garden I always need to take it to go and when I put in a order it's done and ready for carry out in no time

Great American Chinese Food. Huge portions. Quick service. We usually order take-out. Very good. Would recommend. I've eaten Green Bean Beef, General TSO Chicken (my favorite) Chow mein, and Mongolian Beef. The lunch special is a great price and it is good for the next day's lunch as well, due to the large portion size.

Consistantly great chinese food every visit. We've dined here at least 6 times since moving to the area a year ago. We dined at several other area chinese establishments here but Wong's Garden beats them all! Oh, large portions to take home for lunch the next day. You must try their egg rolls the best I've ever had anywhere.

Great service, quick friendly & welcoming. Enjoyed family style dining and ordered: *Salt/Pepper Squid - light & crispy, surprisingly delish, new fav! *Salt/Pepper Shrimp - much to be desired, it was breaded like S/S Chicken - wish there was less breading/no breading and more salt/pepper/spice *Sweet & Sour Chicken - as expected, yummy - kids fav! *Generals Chicken - delish as expected *House Fried Rice - just okay *Beef & Broccoli - yummy, beef was tender *Hamburger/Fries - lil guy ate it up - no complaints I've ordered take out from here and it was just ok, but when dining in the food is great, nice and fresh & portions are bigger. Best of all our tab was approx. $63! Anywhere else this would have been $80+ Will return again - the waiter gave the kiddos a little bag of broken fortune cookies, boxed up our leftovers for us, and we all left happy!

We tried Wong's last night on a lark and were definitely surprised. As noted below, for strip mall-ish chinese, it was damn good. Not knowing what else to aim for, we went with two orders of the General Tso's Combo Dinners. The servings are crazy big! Like, waddling around the house for hours after and we didn't finish them. We're both having leftovers for lunch. Overall, the food was bright and fresh tasting. The fried shrimp's breading was light and not soggy. Perhaps best of all, I think the fortune cookies taste like home made and foretell good things are in store, in bed.

One of the better Americanized Chinese restaurants around this area; the staff are very nice and the food is what you would expect. Hot Sour Soup is better than most.

Very friendly. Tasty, generous portions, very fresh veggies. It is close to me, very convenient, with fair prices. The egg drop soup was excellent. I had the Szehuan Chicken and the spicing was perfectly balanced. The egg roll was deep-fried, so I gave it to my companion (low fat diet for this cardiac patient). Wontons were crisp and delicious. Hot tea was good and strong. I'll be back, for sure.

Great little place! A++++ friendly staff. The food is always fresh and the portions are out of this world! We always have tons of leftovers! I mean a ton! Lol I remember the food being super greasy in the past , but I also ordered from the one person dinner combos that have an over assortment of fried food. So I just ensure we order separate dishes or from the family combo which has more "non "fried options. Speaking of fried , I can tell you that their fryer oil is cleaned regularly because my fried food always comes out light and crisp. (I used to work in a retail kitchen so it is easy to spot old fryer oil, which they do not) Also they are very accommodating when it comes to asking for a substitute. Overall we really enjoy eating here. I did dock 1 star for the majorly outdated look of the restaurant. :-/ it could truly use an update!! But the new website is beautiful :-) it's exciting to see that not only do they have a beautiful website, but they have a option to order online!!! Order ahead for dine in , or order for pickup! I know, amazing right!? :-) Go check them out! :-)

We may not be talking authentic gourmet froo froo, but we ARE talking good, fresh, tasty Chinese food, huge portions, super nice staff, consistently prepared meals from visit to visit. They will change up a dish if you, say, want to avoid this or that, and they'll be nice about it. Great choices on the menu. Fried things don't taste like oil, they taste fresh and hot and crispy. Got teen-aged boys who can never get enough? This is the place to take them. Just want good solid Chinese food with a nice hot and sour soup? This is the place to go. Don't be fooled that it's in a strip mall. You'll go back again and again.

Ventured out for lunch with a friend and was so surprised. First thing I noticed was how very clean this restaurant was. A combo of both booths and tables. Great service and the portions were huge. Next time it will be a split order and it will still be enough, The red sauce is very good. I will be back for sure.

Wongs is what it is - a nice family-run restaurant. If you're looking for a high-class Chinese place, you're probably going to want to look elsewhere. I don't know about you, but I'm not all that big into high class. My four kids and I troop into Wongs, argue over which combos we're going to order and sip our tea. The plates are huge so three combos feeds us with plenty left for me to take to work for lunch the next couple of days. And the hot and sour soup? Drool-worthy. We don't come in very often, but the sweet lady at the counter greets us like family and is great about seating my rowdy little crew off to the side so our fellow diners can enjoy their food in peace. Takes a load off when I'm not worried about disrupting others. The staff is fast and attentive and I've yet to be disappointed. They also have take-out, which makes for a great special treat at home.

The lunch special here is about the best deal I've ever seen at a chinese restaurant and it's absolutely deicious!!!!! Gosh, I'd like to eat here almost everyday but alas, I cannot. If there was a must order on the menu, I'd say it's the eggroll, they are wonderful (and they come with the lunch special). The lunch special is a crispy wonton, eggroll, choice of soup, pork fried rice and an entree of your choice. I'm a pretty average eater and I can't eat half of what they give me!!! It's the best, I'm so glad I went there when my wife and brother referred me to it.

Giving Safeway deli Chinese a run for the money since 2003! Go ahead and add a very well-earned, well-considered 1/2 star. It's not that Wong's is terrible, they really aren't. They're about as middle of the road as you can get. They're certainly at least a notch above the truly awful "Chinese" (Lung Fung, Hung Far Lo), but notably below anything beyond Fair to Middlin'. (Imperial Garden, Mars Meadows). They also aren't open near as late as much of the competition. They used to be very close to where I lived off of 224, but the Fish Hut almost always seemed like a better idea (McGrath's)....

Perfect average Chinese Food the price is alittle more than it should be but it's close and it fill that need for Chinese Food.

You wouldn't think it from the location (being in a strip mall alongside the highway), but Wong's is actually pretty damn good. Go here for lunch if you're looking to get food that tastes great (especially General Tso) and super quick service at a great value. Do one of their dinner specials. You won't be disappointed.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
