Not bad fast food Mexican. When you are tired of Taco Bell and want something with a bit more variety you should try this place. The carnitas burrito was good with beans and rice. The grease did pool to the bottom of the burrito by the time I was finished eating it. Made for a bit of a mess but what can ya do. The salsa bar had a good variety but they were all to spicy for me.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Gresham! The shrimp tostadas are gloriously fresh and flavorful. Tacos are on point, soft or hard. Breakfast burrito will fill you up for the entire day! Awesome salsa bar. Perfectly blended horchatta and even a drive thru!

Had the carnitas plate today. It was a pretty simple dish. Just carnitas, rice, beans and tortillas done very very well. I have not had carnitas this good in a very long time.

I love the Al Pastor, taco or burrito it is always the best. The asada and chicken are OK but the al pastor is where it's at. The sides are pretty large (I usually get beans and rice for the kids) and are always consistent. Wait times can vary, the drive thru gets crowded around lunch time most days (the wait is well worth it). I haven't tried much else besides tacos and burritos, but the rest of the menu looks alright. 100% try to adobada/al pastor, you won't be disappointed.

Not good at all. Got a Shrimp cocktail with only 4 shrimps. I'm not a picky eater but I would expect a little more than just 4 shrimp and a bunch of tomato and onion mixed in warm water.

So thoroughly disgusted while eating here last night that I wanted to firebomb the house of any reviewer who gave this place more than one star. Either everyone has never been to Mexico before, or the team at Yelp has a hidden camera in the parking lot so they can laugh at suckers like me follow their reviews into the store for a proper punking. Check out my uploaded picture of their shrimp taco. My girlfriend threw up about an hour after we left. Shittier than shit itself. Except for the guac maybe. And the four nachos they give you with it.

I have eaten here at least a dozen times and never had bad food or bad service. They are fast and pleasant. The burritos are HUGE and they have a fresh salsa and condiment bar, including fresh sliced limes, yum! When you walk into a Mexican restaurant and 99% of the customers are hispanic you know the food is going to be good. I don't like Americanized food, I like authentic real food and this place has it. My co-workers all rave about how awesome the breakfast burritos are, but I haven't tried one yet. I can only guess that they're as delicious and filling as the regular burritos. They even have a drive-thru. But, I enjoy going in and getting fresh salsa (several varieties) from the salsa bar.

The location is unassuming, if not a little dumpy. (Everything in Rockwood is pretty dumpy). However, I have been coming here for about six years and have never had a bad experience. I always get the same thing because it is the best I have had anywhere in the Portland area. Do yourself a favor and get their wet burrito with carne asada (used to be called the rico burrito). I always ask for a chile relleno along with the steak and then smother it with salsa, pico de gallo, and cilantro from their salsa bar. Their enchilada sauce is homemade and has a creaminess to it that is out of this world. The inside of the burrito is filled with delicious rice, beans, steak, onion, and large wedges of hot tomato. The serving size is generous and the price is decent for what you get. My only complaint is that because what I ask for is not part of their normal menu, I have been charged various prices ranging from $7.50-$10.00 for the addition of the relleno. Because I feel like I am being a pain in the ass asking for extra stuff, I usually don't say anything about the cost. I guess that says a lot....because that's how freakin' good this burrito is. I wish I could say more about their items, but I can't. I live for this damn burrito. I dream about it at night. I drive from Milwaukie to Gresham to get it. I can't help it. That amazing sauce smothering the burrito in deliciousness can not be resisted. I can say that friends of mine have come in with me and got their own items and always thought their food was delicious as well. We have never walked out disappointed. Other pros to this little restaurant is that there are always Hispanic families eating there. The food tastes so authentic, even though I know my burrito technically is not. I also notice that they overhauled their menu within the last year or so, making the menu more attractive with pictures and simplifying things. They also make their own tortillas with a little machine behind the counter and you can watch them do that sometimes. They keep the restaurant pretty clean. Although they are always pretty busy, I've never had to wait long for my to-go order.

Great breakfast burritos! The three meat breakfast burrito is seriously the best breakfast burrito in Rockwood. It's annoying that they constantly raise their prices but I'll always come back.

Came by at 11pm last night. Got the shredded beef quesadilla and pork burrito. Food was decent 2/5 stars. Convenience 4/5 stars (it's opened until 2am). Time on the toilet (1.3 hours) 0/5 stars. I knew I should have tipped them even though I picked up the food in the drive thru :(

I had 3 sopes and 1 shrimp taco, and a small jaimca. My bill was $15.75. Way over priced, they honored my request to not deep fry . i feel ripped off the sopes come with beans cheese ,lettuce tomatoe, they charge you extra for avocado. What extra money!when your paying $3.00 or $3.50 for each sope. Also if you want chillis torreados they charge you , if i temember correctly they charged me $1.00 for 2 chillis torreados. Ha those chillis cost close to nothing and they charge you. Also my drink was $2.50 for a small with no refill. Why do they charge these prices. My sopes were vegetarian no meat . and the taste of the food was ok tasted like very processed food . i was hoping for fresh great tasting food, especially for spending so much money. My shrimp taco consisted of 2 breaded deep fried shrimp placed on 1 small corn tortilla. Another mistake. Sorry i can not recommend this place way over priced for lack luster food.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I was told on the phone that our to go order was $20.48. We come to pick up our order through the drive through and was charged $22.48. I knew all the prices of our items quesadilla($5.50), burrito($4.99), and shrimp enchilada combo($9.99) so I said something about it and GUADALUPE F or CYNTHIA (as stated on receipt) said I don't know. When asked for a receipt she pushed it in my boyfriends hand rudely. As we were looking at it and stated that the prices are wrong and we were overcharged she slammed the window on us while we were talking and walked away. Like are you serious?!?! She knew she did it on purpose and didn't know what to do because she got caught. She was probably mad she didn't get tipped but I don't tip unless deserved.. AND HELL NO she didn't. NEVER COMING BACK EVER AGAIN.

I ate here twice during a recent trip to Portland to find a place to live. While I was dubious about the "fast food," "chain" appearance of the place, the food won me over. My first visit was for dinner. I had the birria combination platter (and I must have the worst Spanish pronunciation in the world, because the clerk kept hearing "burrito"; I actually I think the clerk couldn't believe a gringo wanted the birria, LOL!). I took the food to-go, as I wanted to watch the Oscars. I was very pleasantly surprised by 1) homemade tortillas, 2) well-flavored and tender birria, 3) three excellent salsas, and 4) abundant rice and beans. I had my food within five minutes of ordering, and once the communication issues were behind me, the staff were competent and friendly. The food was so good, I returned for breakfast a couple days later. I saw lots of versions of huevos ranchero, and asked if they had a version "con chorizo." They did, and I dined in. Again, the food was ready within five minutes, and this time, by dining in, I could visit the exceptional salsa bar. The flavors of everything were right on target. My only complaint is that the eggs were cooked harder than I prefer. I'm sure I'll be returning occasionally once I relocate to Portland.

Food is always fast and tastes Great. Good value for your money also. Nice thing is that over the years they have kept making improvements and updates to their building. I think it shows they really care about the whole experience for their customers.

This place has been a favorite for years. I'm not sure what happened, but yesterday I found the tacos pretty disappointing.

This review is 0 stars! What sort of universe do we live in to where a mexican food restaurant puts a soft taco shell on a stove for 40 seconds, deep frys two breaded shrimp, then places them onto said tortilla and presents it to me like 'its a shrimp taco' WTF?!!!? FWIW I also used the legal advice and got the carnitas burrito too as insurance.

Had great tacos and enchiladas. They have a fresh salsa bar that was great. The food was very good. The service was fast and friendly. We really enjoyed it and will be back.

Was craving a burrito before heading home the other day and really didn't want to stop and sit somewhere. I'm always passing by this place or whenever I get gas at the Arco I wondered how the food was. So finally one night I went through the drive-thru which was funny cause I have never seen something like that before. Well even though the wait was pretty long it was worth it. I'm from Northern California and got some pretty good authentic Mexican food. This was really darn close to authentic. Will definitely be back!!!

Really good burritos and tostadas I really wish they had a location closer in so I could visit more. But this place is definately worth the trip into outer east portland.

I came to Rico Taco thinking it would be similar to muchas gracias (a quick and tasty drive-through option). The wait time for the drive-through wasn't bad, but the food was very bland and dry. I ordered the #8 combo: 1 carne asada taco and 1 enchilada served with beans a rice. The meat was tough and chewy, the beans were cooked with way too much lard and the taco was a stale hard shell instead of a soft flour tortilla. Needless to say I probably won't be coming back here.

I like the place and considering i am from Mexico, i think the fluor tortillas are not the best!, neither the machaca burritos!... Wish they could make their own tortillas!... But anyway affordable prices!, horchata tastes good and clean place for you or if you want to bring family... Good!

I know there's like a million taco and burrito places in the area, but this one is by far my favorite. I spent like their carnitas, the fresh salsa bar is awesome, and the flan is very good for only $2. The service is friendly and fast, even when they're crowded, which is quite often. I said, some of the best tacos and burritos around.

As I sit in my car engaging in my first bite of my adobado burrito the first thing that popped in my mind is that scene from Lethal Weapon where Joe Peschi is screaming in the back seat "They F@#$k you at the drive through" This was my experience here when I had a burrito from Taqueria Rico Taco. I was in a huge hurry trying to make it to Salmon Creek from Gresham and I needed something to eat now. Saw the drive through and made my way to order a burrito and eat and drive to Salmon Creek. I ordered an Adobado Burrito with a large Coke thinking it was literally going to be marinated pork with the essentials of a burrito, rice, beans, and pico de gallo. When I took the first bite of the burrito I was in disbelief that I literally got a rice and bean burrito. I took the second bite and yet still it was all rice and beans. When I finally got a piece of pork it was seasoned pork not marinated and it was also fatty cuts of pork. I was clearly unimpressed and even more irritated by the fact that I didn't have the luxury of turning back around and expressing my dissatisfaction of this meal. I guess it is what it is. Sorry guys you barely deserved one star.....

We went there late night and ordered Carne Asada tacos and a veggie burrito. I should have trusted my nose. When we opened our take out containers something smelled "off". My fiancé ate the tacos and about an hour later was paying for it. Five hours later he is still vomiting and has diarrhea every few minutes. Don't eat here!!

Everytime i go to this restaurant if you can call it that they somehow mess up my order. This time i ordered shrimp tacos, i get home and i open my food and i find two tacos with some fried "fish"? but I'm guessing, it looks like cardboard. I would love to know what kind of fish this is. You literally have one job, take the order and and read the slip and make it just like it says. I will not be coming back, with so many awesome mexican restaurants around the area that are just as quick and easy as this place with a million times better food.

Yes, I was in Gresham. And after a long day of hiking and soaking it up at Bagby Hot Springs, nothing sounded better than a burrito. And I love burritos. So this place (Tacqueria Rico Taco) is in a old Taco time, and it's actually pretty nice inside. It has nice booths that you would find in a normal restraint with table service, and a pretty expansive salsa bar. I ordered the Asada Rico burrito. Normally, I hate "wet" burritos, but this one was decent. No fatty meat bits, lots of veggies and the salsa was awesome. Also, this burrito was the size of a 12 week old baby, but way better tasting. The burrito was fine, just fine. Nothing to shake your nose at, but a far cry from awesome. My man was super jealous of my giant burrito and I wouldn't share.

I recently went with my whole family and I got the worst customer service ever, the young ladies that helped me out kept giving attitude. In one situation I asked for extra ice and the girl seemed to get upset and on top of that they charged me extra for the drinks. The prices are so high and they give you canned foods (in my case sauce for enchiladas). Not only that but they gave me the wrong food after waiting for over 15 mins, and they got upset because I told them it wasn't what I had ordered. I simply wouldn't recommend this mexican restaurant to anyone.

Is there such a thing as a 5 star Mexican place in Portland? I hope so, but haven't found it yet. Taqueria Rico Taco is pretty good and much better than most. There is ample parking with indoor and outdoor seating at this Fast Mex place. Lots of Spanish speaking patrons was an encouraging sign. Order to eat in and you lose the typical styro container for a real plate. Wish real forks & glasses came with it as well. We ordered #14 Chili Rellenos & Enchilada (shredded beef in mine), and 2 of their street tacos at $1.50 each. The basic tacos were the best I've had so far in my search among all the local carts, roach coaches and traditional taquerias. They used a single larger corn tortilla with substantially more filling than most give. It could have used a double tortilla soft shell, but still held up relatively well. Visit the ample salsa bar and you have a delightful taco feast! I chose carne asada and cabeza. Both were great and the asada was the best I've had recently. Our combination plate was as large as most sit down Mexican places for under $8 or $9. The refried beans were quite good as were the entree items. I also noticed the friendly counter staff faithfully were in the lobby keeping everything spotless. Another reason to try Rico Taco is for its extensive menu. There is a great Mexican breakfast menu- something I've never seen before in Portland. There's also a larger seafood menu than the usual shrimp options. I really want to return for these soon. About the only thing I didn't care for was seeing so much styrofoam. It just seems too out of place in Portland. I also wish they'd use a little higher quality plastic silverware, and in the dining room go to real service items. So far Rico Taco is the best of the California style taquerias I've found. If you know of better please comment so we can try them! [Update September 1st, 2010- Rico Taco is now 2nd to Taqueria Lindo Michoacan at SE 33rd and Division]

Not impressed. I ordered the chicken taquitos and they were so dry and actually tasted a bit fishy. My guacamole was brown and as I waited in the drive thru and was peering in the place wasFILTHY! I will never go back here. I can only imagine what that kitchen actually looks like and all the disease waiting to spread. Disgusting.

The food is great, and the staff are very nice. I got the super nachos, which were loaded down with chicken, onion, cilantro, tomatoes, and sour cream; my sister got a seafood soup, which was filled with everything from fish chunks to mini squid and octopus. We went through the drive through, and they definitely wrapped everything up really well, though the container for the soup was a little thin. If I had a complaint, it would be that we didn't get enough limes. But that's our fault, we always use a lot of limes, and usually remember to ask for extra.

Order the shredded chicken tacos or burritos. A lot of Mexican joints use chicken chunks, but this place used shredded white chicken, it's really good.

Garbage food it's a risk eating here don't do it, spend your money else where. They don't even deserve one star. Got multiple black hairs in my burrito first bite! After driving all the way home and back there they wouldn't compensate me another free burrito for my troubles or Atleast make a new one and give me my money back. They basically told me to fu*k off. It was a bean and cheese burrito as well like it would cost them anything to make things right but they chose not to. Very rude employees giving me bad looks. Keep driving if you see this place. I'm filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau tomorrow that's how bad it was. So please trust me on this one guys and keep driving. I suggest Baja Fresh or even Taco Bell over this spot! Garbage food and service!

Very good authentic Mexican food. If you like seafood you have to try the mariscada, its not on the menu.

As of late the meat here has been 25% fat, the service is terrible. They never give you a price at the reader board so you don't know if you are over budget or whatnot. The food is not as good as it was earlier this year. Overall I would probably still come here until I find a suitable replacement for a late night burrito need. Also it is a bit frustrating to spend 15 minutes with your car running waiting for your food. Not a problem for me to wait but it would be nice if they said "its gonna be 15 minutes".

My 5-star vote applies only to their breakfast burrito as I haven't had anything else at this place. I must tell you I love breakfast burritos and this place makes one of the best I've had. The shredded hash browns and eggs were both cooked perfectly as was every other element. At $3.99 for the veggie breakfast, I'll definitely be back and back and back.

I am updating my original review after thinking about the level of taqueria food in portland. 1. awesome salsa bar. 2. Yummy veggie burritos, carnitas tacos/burritos and fish plates. 2. Good food, great food. Not THE BEST, but good. (Tio's Tacos on 170th is and Stark is better, but lacks the salsa bar. La Superior on Lombard in North portland has amazing tacos as well.) 3. Yes, location and decor is lacking. But DUH! It is a taqueria on 181st in gresham! 4. Horchata is super danky as well :)

  • Dave D.

Better than some of the other rockwood neighborhood options for Mexican. Good tacos, but not great. Interior is kind of a cross between a fast-food taqueria and a nicer sit-down restaurant. Overall it has a good atmosphere for what it is. I would give it a solid B overall.

4 stars for Breakfast burrito only. Rico Taco is pretty gnar gnar on the inside so I prefer to cruise through the drive up window and take my tasty ass breakfast burrito on the go. Any time I find myself out this way, which sadly is more often then Id like to admit * thanks family* I hit the Rico. So If you find yourself on the corner of 181st and Burnside give them a try. Ps-I have it on good authority that their Chile Relleno is the bomb.com .

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
