While I was visiting my bff in Portland, I came here to have a sandwich and boooy, am I glad I did! It's been weeks since my vacation and I'm sitting here at work fantasizing about that damn sandwich I had here. It was THAT good. I would totally go back to Portland just to have one again. The soup too! Amagad it was delicious! You guys are wizards.

I've never been a fan of sandwiches, this place has made me reconsider my position. They have the best BLT I've ever had, their garlic mayo is to die for.

Yummy in my tummy! Everything on the menu makes you want to order more. Their hogie sandwiches are big enough to split.

Stopped today for lunch and was happily surprised. I had the Beef Paw and my husband had the South Paw. We both agreed the Beef Paw was fantastic, and the South Paw was good too. However, the combination of the red pepper jelly and dijon cream cheese is downright genius. We will definitely make this a regular stop. I love the fact that they are open dinner hours. The only reason I didn't give them a full 5 stars is because the potato salad left something to be desired. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great either. Since the sandwiches come with either chips or potato salad, I felt the need to include it in the review. However, if I had ordered chips I probably would have given the 5 stars. Based on other reviews, next time I will definitely get soup!

Stopped in on my last visit to Portland and was so glad I did! I really enjoyed the BLT, which was classic enough for me with still a bit of originality in the seasoned mayo. If I had been a bit hungrier, I would have gone for the namesake sandwich, the South Paw. The BF ordered that and I was lucky enough to get a couple of bites - so good! Also, really reasonable prices. Maybe it's the Seattle talking, but 5 bucks for a really good half-sando and cup of soup seems pretty stellar. Finally, the potato salad is where it's at. I prefer a mustardy potato salad to a mayo-heavy one. Not only does this have enough mustard to give it a slight kick, it's stone-ground mustard. Unexpected and delightful. I'll certainly be back next time I'm in Portland!

Delicious sandwich and potato salad! Yummy! Right down the street from PCC, next to Florida Room. Fast service and quality food.

yes. go. simple review. they we friendly. let me try the soups. gave advice on local favorites as well as their own favs, didn't rush me. prices are ok for the size of servings. hand made, original but not snooty sandwiches. and the soups are freaking fantastic! and they made sure to walk my order right out to me personally. a touch often overlooked in counter service places. the reviews are correct, the blt is classic bliss. i've been looking for a good soup place in town, this will be mine now.

I honestly don't know why this place is so highly rated. Or why it has just one dollar sign. The sandwiches are good, but nothing even close to mind blowing. If you're gonna charge 8-10 bucks for a sandwich and have 4.5 stars... Well than my mouth better have an orgasm. And Like a chick with micro clit, I couldn't "come" close. The food at mcmenamims is about the same price, only better, plus they have an actual side. And I Hate mcmenamims. It's shocking to me that your business has been hanging on for so long. Every day I walk by it, practically no ones ever in there. And why do you think that is? I say you go back to the south and find your paw. $$

Located next to The Florida Room and across the street from PCC, South Paw serves up amazing hot sandwiches. These pressed sandwiches put subway to shame. If I lived closer in the neighborhood I could see myself eating my way through their menu in no time.

I am giving this place 5 stars because it deserves it!! Obviously it is not a 5 star restaurant, but man, it is worth all the stars!!! I went here right before noon on a Thursday. I was the only person in there....At first I was kinda wondering why seeing as it is the awesome yelp reviews and pictures that made me give it a try!! Well, I ordered the Turkey paw with a cup of soup. $10, not bad.... The sandwich was so amazing!! The garlic aioli with the pesto was just magic! Seriously! And the toasted but soft bread was perfect for dipping!! :) I only ate half my sandwich! The soup....Ahh the soup...It was the ham, potato, and cabbage soup!! Flavors are SPOT ON!! Herby, and warming, and seriously good, homemade comfort!! I would honestly put this in the top 5 soup/sandwiches that I have ever had!! Keep rocking it out!! I will return!!

We've been a few times and have never been disappointed. If you're looking for a quiet place to grab a sandwich and a hot bowl of soup on a cold winter's eve South Paw Deli could be for you. The place seems nice and calm between six and seven at night. The turkey paw is a solid sandwich. Last night I tried the south paw and it was delicious although perhaps not as "southern" as I'd hoped. For $2 you can add a cup of soup. The beef barley was perfectly flavored. Two soups are offered and rotate daily. They also have free wifi and beer (in a can). South Paw Deli has made our short list of go to places.

I couldn't even finish the sandwich I got here today for lunch.. It was that gross. I got the cheesesteak and somehow it was sweet or pickled or something, anyway long story short it was one of the worst sandwiches I've ever had. $7 dollars too?! This place is a huge rip off. The whole time I could hear the guy in the back cooking everything with the microwave. The chips on the side were a handful of cheap greasy lays wavy potato chips. I think the only reason this place is still in business is because it's so close to PCC.

This place is freaking amazing. Get the Fish Paw or whatever. You will not regret any decision made here.

Had a couple of sandwiches with my partner, and was pleasantly surprised. We were working a flea market down the street, and found this spot on Yelp. Thanks, folks! The Turkey Paw was great, and my partners breakfast sandwich was also tasty. Great ingredients. with good flavor combinations, and a solid guy working the place! I want to try out the roast beef next time; they were out of one of the main ingredients when I was there, so the cook steered me towards something else. Nice spot for a good sammie and maybe a beer too!

South Paw is insanely delicious!!! Try the Beef Paw and the Breakfast Paw, they are both so so good. The turkey and rice soup is scrumptious and warming on a cloudy day. Sandwiches are a great portion, lots of seating both indoor and out. They could use a few more hot sauces in the sauce selection. Overall, just a very chill relaxed vibe and a good beer selection. If you love sandwiches and haven't tried this place, you're missing out! Ps: They always play really good music, such a relief. I do not think I could take even one more sandwich shop playing Rihanna!!

I thought it to be a bit over priced for good sandwiches. And yes the sandwich was good but I expect great for $9 turkey bacon w/ potato salad.

The Turkey Paw is one of the best turkey sandwiches I have ever had! I also love how close they are to the PCC Cascade campus. The have plenty of counter space, electrical outlets, and free WiFi. This is a great place to grab a bite to eat and plop down and study.

This is a great little sandwich shop! The folks who work here are friendly, and the menu has a little bit of everything. I especially like their Portland Paw sandwich - it can be really hard to find a good vegetarian sandwich (think iceberg lettuce and mayo), but theirs is hearty and satisfying. They also offer a student discount, which is great.

Not a large sandwich selection, and only about four meats to choose from. Small side portion, long wait. Wasn't too bad of a sandwich, but the price was on the high side.

All I have to say is WOW! Delicious! The turkey paw is the business... I travel the world for work and this has got to be one of the tastiest sandwiches I've had. Well done guys.

I went looking for help on Yelp for a sandwich place close to the area..when I ran across this place...I thought I would go check it out. The place was easy to get to, close by the college...good to know if I ever take any classes, casual and the guy running it was super friendly. I was faced with a tough choice of the infamous turkey pesto sandwich or the bbq pulled pork. I decided to go with the turkey...and oh my gosh it was heavenly!

I'm giving South Paw Deli 5 stars for several reasons. First the food is amazing! The sandwiches are some of the best I've ever had! The soups are incredibly tasty, and you can even have a bottled beer with your food! Second, the owner, who is there all the time, is laid back and very nice. I went to South Paw Deli for lunch last weekend with a friend and her 2 year old son. The owner took our order and knew we were going to share our food with my friend's son, so he made extra bread that he slightly buttered and toasted for the little boy. My friend's son liked it so much, the owner made him some more before we left. Really nice guy, who not only make awesome food, but also makes his deli a really laid back, comfortable place to visit. And third, the location. It's easy to get to and right next to a really cool library. I don't live in Portland, but I am going to make South Paw Deli a priority stop every time I'm in town!

the turkey paw is by far my favorite sandwich in portland. everything about it is delicious, but the smoked gouda has me hooked; do yourself a favor! the service is always great, too. it's worth the trip, but if you're in north portland, there is no excuse. thanks for making kick-ass sandwiches, dudes!

I work just a block and a half away from South Paw Deli and I love the food and the service here for grabbing a quick lunch. The sandwiches are amazingly delicious, toasty hot, and the ingredients are all fresh. I think I am going to work my way through the entire sandwich menu, including the Portland Paw which has field roast, an item I've heard of yet never tasted. ;) To date, I have had their BLT Paw (got hooked in by this sandwich), the Pig Paw (loved the sweet red pepper and dijon cream cheese), and the Turkey Paw just today (still drooling). The Turkey Paw is the best I've tasted yet - the fresh spinach, bacon, smoked gouda, and garlicky mayo on hoagie bread that is not super thick. The soups are not to be ignored either! The first I had was a white bean and turkey stew (I think it was turkey), then I purchased a cup of their white bean and potato soup for a co-worker (vegan friendly!), and just today gulped down their turkey and rice soup. The warmth of the soup and the spiciness of black pepper was what I needed with all this blustery weather! There is also the Salad Paw on their menu, which I'm sure I'll get to one of these days! The guy running the counter has been the same every time I go and he is really friendly and has your meal ready in no time. I will learn your name soon because I hope to stop in at least once a week and you are totally awesome for making delicious sandwiches!

There is a wonderful place where you can go. It has a lovely sandwich with roast beef. It has onions and green peppers. The bread is solid so that when the dressings drops it is for the benefit of an enhanced taste on the chips. Then there is the coffee. oh - I could speak of a lot about the coffee and the service I got from the counter person. It is quaint. It is nice. There is a tendency for the slick modern look which is ... I think standard in all of these fancy delis. There is plenty of bike parking and the service is good.

The guy running the show here has a love for soup. In some delis, the soup sometimes feels like an afterthought, but not here. The sandwiches are built to be able to dip in soup if you're into that sort of thing (who isn't?!), which makes them rather unique to the sandwich scene. They're pressed on a sturdy slab of bread that is equal parts crunchy and soft. It won't succumb to the soggy soup if you're intent on dipping. The soups I've had thus far are on point. I wouldn't ever bother with the chips or potato salad as a sandwich side. I pledge allegiance to the soup forever more. They're always substantial in flavor and mouthfeel, which, again, is perfect for dipping. The number of sandwiches trumps the number of soups on the menu because who doesn't like dipping options? The soups rotate, the sandwiches don't. I have yet to be disappointed by a single sandwich. They all have a very good meat:bread ratio. The condiments are applied with care, so they don't get soggy if you aren't eating right away. Substitutions are easy-peasy (I want a vegan sando with turkey instead of tofurkey. Shocking, I know.). The hours cater to the nearby college, which is great for those of us who want a sando for dinner. These are perfect sandwiches for any time of day, as evidenced with the number of egg options. South Paw is a great addition to the sandwich repertoire, which is really just an excuse for more soup.

The guys working we're super helpful and informative as soon as I walked in. I ended up getting the Turkey Paw and I could die of happiness it is so delicious. It's on a grilled hoagie with REAL bacon, pesto, garlic mayo, lettuce, tomato, smacked Gouda and obviously turkey. The inside we defrosted really simple and cute. A little spendy, but the ingredients look really fresh and I'll have leftovers. I'll be back for sure!

Sandwiches are good but basically all variations on the same two sandwiches, ham or turkey, and holy god do they take forever.

So, I am taking classes at Cascade next door... Am absolutely starving and refuse (and I mean REFUSE) to eat the vast majority of things the campus offers, so I venture out and I end up here. I was seriously needing a sandwich, and randomly walked past this place while heading to what I had reluctantly "settled on". I am so glad I did. First off, the service was unbelievable. Even the guy fixing up the sandwiches in back cheerfully helped the cashier and I figure out the right sandwich for me... And he was sweet enough to offer to make some accommodations due to my love-hate relationship with dairy. Both were super friendly and helped pick me out the perfect treat. And speaking of that treat... Whew!! Their BLT (they use spinach!) with a sweet garlic mayo and a cup of their white bean and potato soup. The sandwich was perfectly toasted and the bread perfectly dressed. the portions were just right on the sandwich and the soup was full of herbs and tasted so damn good! And benches outside. Yup. In the sun. (fingers crossed)

We had the turkey paw and it was soo good. I had the dill soup and my husband had the sweet potato soup. Sweet potato was ok the dill soup was really good. Service is fine. But nothing beats the sandwiches.

We got the turkey paw and the Portland paw. MINDS BLOWN. This place is so delicious we can't wait to come back and try more things on their menu. I HIGHLY recommend giving this place a try.

Hmmmmm. Had high hopes for South Paw. It was cold and rainy night. We were looking for soup to warm us. The reviews on South Paw suggested that their soups rock. They were out of the day's soup and so we were offered a just made beef stew. Not sure where these folks learned to make beef stew, but this was more a soup consistency (which was okay), but it was so loaded with vinegar, we were unable to finish. I mentioned it to the person working and he stated it was worchestershire. So be it. I tasted vinegar and far too much. If not for that though, it would have been a good bowl of soup. Off night perhaps.

This place is amazing. Small menu usually means better quality ingredients, and that couldn't be more true here. I had the beef paw and the ham & barley soup. Needless to say, this pale definitely earned its 5 stars.
