With my first chance on this trip to eat on the company dime, it was unfortunate to find myself too exhausted to drive into downtown Portland (and surprisingly responsible enough to know NOT to get absolutely stoopid drunk!). But, thanks to a concierge, I was directed to a little sports bar in walking distance from my hotel. Sidelines is a smallish place; a bar that can service about 10 people, and a dining area that MIGHT seat shy of 80, separated into two sections. Walking in, I was a little surprised by the waft of smoke in the air... "Oh, yeah, this isn't Cali", I chuckled to myself. As I saddled up to the bar, and took a look at the menu, Jessica (the awesome waitress/bartender!) nodded, leaned to, and plied "Somethin'ta'drink?". Mmmmm, no nonsense... HOTNESS! Pint #1: Pyramid Hefe w/wedge of orange. I opted for the Sideline Burger and onion rings; if you're gonna go somewhere maybe once, I figured getting the namesake item is a good bet... The Sideline Burger: 1/3 pound grilled burger, with cheese, 3 slices of crispy bacon, deli ham (yeah, a sam'ich worth of sliced ham!), and fried egg (yeah, a fried egg!). Served with lettuce, pickle, tomato... you know, to make it healthy, right? And Grey Poupon... you know, to make it classy! I ate about a third of it. Any more than that and it would have sideline'd ME... *barump-bump-tsssss!!* The place has about 6(?) teevees throughout; two over the bar, two over one dining section and two in the nonsensically designated non-smoking dining section. The customer base seems like a mixing pot of business travelers, boisterous regulars, and a couple of local sketch. Pint #2: Black Butte Porter The Sharks won, to which I raised my pint. This got me a couple of looks and a couple "where'ya'from?"s. The Sharks won... not a bad night after all. Not a bad place if you've got limited time and even less expectation. I wouldn't seek it out, by any means, but if my business travel is going to regularly bring me to the strips of hotel/motels on Airport Way, then I'd go here again... ... ate another third of the Sideline Burger the next morning. Fried egg makes it breakfast food too, right? ___________________________________ Jessica's got a cute smile and laugh when she does so...

Chef worked the chicken Marsala to be gluten free and yummy! Little 7 inch pizzas are loaded and thick so meal was a great deal!

Bar fare. I had the spicy chicken strips. IPA tasted okay. Nice sized crowd at 5 pm, but also plenty of room. Whatcha looking for?

Good enough for a hang out spot if you're in p-town for business or whatever. Decent beer selection, decent food selection and kick-back crowd.

Really terrible this time. Ordered a steak sandwich cooked rare last week and got one cooked like the sun was gonna go out soon. Sent it back and got a chunk of raw cow. Gave them another chance and called for some ribs to go tonight - no ribs. I'm done.

Good food, cold beer, and near the Portland airport. Recommend for those staying near the airport and looking for an inexpensive meal.

This place is quaint, but just that. It is not too exciting, except that I was Christmas shopping online there once, so free wi-fi is always a plus! There was no one in there both times I went, Saturday and Sunday night... we wondered if it was hip, and they said yes, but never saw it. They do have good food and not so good food. It is just like a 50-50 chance with them. Beer selection is so so and their hard liquor is pretty expensive for my taste. They were willing to change the tv to the football game we wanted, which was nice. I just do not have high hopes of going back.

Decent little spot near all the airport hotels. The food is priced right and isn't too shabby. They also offer a 15% discount if you're staying at a nearby hotel.

Came here for a takeout dinner while staying a few doors down! Had the rack of ribs, decided on them after reading Scott S.'s review! Pretty good ribs, fall off the bone tender and they had a good zangy taste! Overall a really good dinner, atmosphere looked like it could get busy during football season etc.. People in there were also very nice and courteous, and my order was ready right when I got there! I will definitely be returning and recommending!

It looks the they have new ownership. The menu was written on a piece of paper. Great ambiance for a sports bar. They have a basic menu but the food is great. I tasted the meatloaf and the nachos. The crowed seemed to be enjoying the night. The owner was very friendly along with the waitstaff.

We got to the airport early and came here for dinner before checking in. If you go east on Airport Way and then turn right at the Plaid Pantry, it's in a complex with a pizza place and Chinese restaurant. We had been here once before and it was ok, regular sort of sports bar food, I didn't remember anything bad about it. The food is ok; it isn't great but it is much cheaper than eating at the airport. You get a good hamburger and fries for around 8 bucks, there are lots of beers and a full bar, and many other food options if you want something heartier, lighter or appetizers. There is always a game on the TV. I wont be back until the smokiing ban is in effect. We sat in "non smoking," which as Laura N. recently said, "Non smoking sections are like having non-peeing sections in pools." Truer words have never been said; we left there reeking like smoke and coughing. We were there for 45 minutes and that was enough to make us totally stink. There was some kind of work party or something being held in the bar, so it would loud and silly, but that was ok. This did mean that our server was distracted and busy, so service wasn't attentive. We finally had to go to the register and get our bill so we could leave. We considered dessert, but with nobody to take our order, and the coughing fits from smoke starting, we decided to cut our losses and save our lungs. Sidelines is a good alternative to airport food, casual and relaxed, but until it's nonsmoking, stay away unless you want to smell like an ashtray.

This is an absolute hidden treasure where I kinda wish I was a regular. Ok, I'm here for work at a local hotel. I walk up and the outside leaves a lot to be desired. From the strip mall parking lot it looks like it should be smoke filled (despite the sign on the door that says no smoking within 10' of it) with people who made poor life choices along the way. But walking in its clean, orderly and well kept, and very laid back. No smoke and no sad people. The bar tender was overly nice without too much sugar. She was honest on her choice of food. At a quarter of a beer she asked if I needed another. Big points. The fries are hand cut and they slathered them in cheddar and bacon at my request. Their burgers are hand ground and it really was one of the best I've had in a while. I was kinda blown away. The service is great and the food is even better. If you wanna look like a local with the "secret spot" come on!

Hawaii visitors you gotta go to sideline to drink some beer and some delicious food! If Jessie is working, she is the greatest. Out of all the waiters I experienced in portland, she is the greatest. I wish we had more waiters/bartenders like her back at home. Awesome prime rib better than cattle company. Oh man the beer is awesome. Jessie knows our kona brewery and knows how to relate the beers with the Oregon beers :) it's a go to place. It's a hole in a wall but once you sit down, you will love the environment.

Jesse our server was awesome, and the food was perfect. Wife had fish tacos, fried and grilled. Said was great and the sauce was delicious. I had the 12 Oz Prime rib. More like 20 Oz. So good, leftovers for the boy and he was instantly upset he wasn't there. 12, not 21! Go here. Good people and happy patrons!

So.....new owners, new menu! All fresh.....according to Deborah/Debra, who is co-owner with her head chef/husband. No visual changes to Sidelines. It's clean..always been clean. Has a very busy lottery section, plenty of TVs ready for whatever sporting event is on. Stopped by the other afternoon and while gathering all the info posted above, had the prime rib dip and a nice leafy salad. Fresh is the word! Significant improvement from the past regime. We had actually given up eating at Sidelines and just used it as a whistle-wetter, but it solidly back in the lunch/dinner/bar rotation. And a fantastic place to stop if you're shopping at Cascade station or waiting for 205 traffic to die off a bit.

Stopped by for first time and ordered a take out. Caesar salad, buffalo, wings and tri tips sandwich. All pretty decent. Had a cold draft while waiting. Good atmosphere, good service and decent bar food.

Food was not very good but I guess typical bar food. Not sure what everyone else had on Yelp but it is definitely average at best.

Great spot to stop in when you're near the airport. Beer, cocktails, food, sports. What more could you need?

I take my meat seriously. Very seriously. So when so many reviews raved about their in house smoked meat I was interested. I was all in to go get myself a prime rib dip and devour. Nom nom nom....NOT. First off anyone coming to the area AVOID this place, you are airport person. PDX has transportation. Take yourself elsewhere. Our experience was busy during our visit. We had one server to our section, which was half of the restaurant, she had no less than 40 customers to handle. We were handed to the backside, ( 2 adults 2 kids ) so she could handle a 20 top. Beers ran dry. Appetizers came with the meal. Chili fries tasted like onion powder and beans. Mostly onion. Just NASTY! Inedible. I order the tri tip sandwich. Smoked meat with bleu cheese etc. 1 bite into my smoked meat, there was no doubt my "meat" had met a microwave. That taste of red meat + crazy technology = bad bad taste. Ick! The fries I had were cold. The waitress was too busy to notice. Did I mention my drink was still empty Prime rib dip. Was not "PRIME" by any means, also cold. We left. We did not get "doggie bags". We were out 70$ plus a tip. Grrrrrr

I liked this place. They have decent food options for a sports bar/ restaurant. And its pretty tasty too! I loved the crab and asparagus soup. I also tried the steamed veggies which was delish for a sports place. Plenty of seating. TVs everywhere with two giant back to back Tvs in the center of the room. I love the candles at each table, its super cute to splash some romance with low candlelight in a sports bar :) All different people in there. ranging from my grandparents to us ( 30's ). Hubby got the steak , i tried some : Juicy and hot! We had a great waitress who was spunky, attentive and seemed to have regulars pouring in to sit in her section. Springhill Suited recommended : WE loved ! Will be back !

Sidelines has a PrimeRib special that is always good and tender. It comes with broccoli and salad. The service is also very good here. As soon as I finished my salad my Prime Rib was there. It's close to my hotel and the food is always good. I recommend Sidelines for a good meal.

Good prime rib and good service. If visiting one of the many near bye hotels this is a great place for a drink, food and to watch the game.

Typical bar food. Drinks seemed a bit on the expensive side. Service was ok but a long way from wow. Would have rather watched the gsme at the hotel

If it wasn't for the friendly and really good service here, and a nice beer selection, would not even give 2 stars. This place is really hampered by its kitchen...not the menu, but the kitchen. Their food is seriously not good...I mean really, don't try to claim you smoke meats daily when you don't. Most of their meat has an appearance and taste of being reheated in a microwave. Prime rib is gray lol. This seems to be a practice here, as their French fries (which they do take the time to fresh cut) taste like they have been sitting for long periods of time and then reheated. Too bad, because this could be a nice place if the owners would spend some money to bring in somebody who had standards for food taste and preparation in their kitchen. The sports bar set up with TV's is nice. Like I said, you can't fault the girls who tend bar and wait the entire restaurant, because they bust their ass and do a great job. But that food? Do better!

I ordered an Italian melt with onion rings, I was served a chicken pesto with fries. My wife ordered a small mac& cheese with salad, she was served a large mac and missing salad dressing. The food that we did receive was basic and blah. The place seemed pretty disorganized and not very clean. I think they needed 1-2 more servers/workers for the medium crown.

Food was good, but the service was terrible. I guess a solo patron doesn't warrant much attention.

I love Sidelines! Since it's right across the street from where I work, my coworker and I hit up happy hour or lunch at least once a week. The food is awesome! They smoke all of their meats in the Trager out by the patio, so the tri tip and prime rib are great! Also a very good burger! The blue cheese sauce that goes with the tri tip sandwich is to die for. The chicken wings are awesome! They have hand cut fries, make sure you try the house made fry sauce, it has horseradish in it and is very good. The house soup is a cream of asparagus with dungeness crab, and it is delightful. Happy hour goes from 3-7 every day with great food and drink specials. Wells are $2.50, any one of their draft micros are $3.50 pints (they have 8 rotating taps that feature Oregon craft beer, ask to see "the beer book" for recommendations and tasting notes from us locals). On Fridays they have a free buffet with the happy hour drinks, always has the awesome fried chicken, a rotating pasta dish ( the meatballs and cream sauce is my favorite) and chips and salsa, so if you're there on Friday, definitely ask for a plate! On lunch, they have daily specials that are $5-6, it's usually a sandwich or wrap and a side. They're not regular menu items and change daily, so call ahead or check their Facebook to see what it is! Seriously, next time you're staying out at some airport hotel and don't have time to make it into the city, let Sidelines be your guide, they do it right!

I didn't want to drive around Portland, fighting the traffic, so I decided to go to McDonald's near my hotel. When I walked in, apparently there was an issue with the register and none of the employees knew how to fix it and the manager had taken a break and left the property. I walked out and noticed this place across the street. So, I went over there. Plenty of TV's with sports on them. I'm sure it's a great place for NFL Sundays and probably when the Trail Blazers are playing here. It was rather quiet in there tonight. I sat at the bar. The staff and clientele were friendly. I ordered a good local brew and she brought me a menu. She said the Prime Rib had just come off the smoker, and I said I wasn't really that hungry, but it sounded good. I saw they had a Prime Rib Dip, so I had that instead. It was great. The Prime Rib was very flavorful and tender. And the french fries were fresh cut and very good. The lady next to me had the Chicken Cobb Salad and that looked great too. Great service, Good food, plenty of parking, very clean environment, and friendly folks. The food is good and it is reasonable and they have a pretty big menu. I have nothing really negative to say on it.

Looking for great American comfort food. My girls loved the Mac and cheese, and by girls I mean my daughters and my wife. It isn't just kraft served in a fancy dish Lila so many other places. Go, eat, be happy.

Only giving 4 stars because I had chili and beer... Lol. The chili was great and the service was awesome. Attentive and friendly

I had a lovely meal at the bar the other night. Their signature prime rib was not available in the rarer versions so I went with the meatloaf which was, frankly, amazing. VERY tasty. I was at the nearby Hilton Garden Inn for a conference and without a car, so this was an excellent option. The beer selections were good, and the staff very attentive.

And yes, this is the official Alabama Crimson Tide bar and grill in the PDX! Game watch every game day!

Love this place. Good atmosphere good food and service. Great selection of craft beer. Has a very neighborhood feel to it, but I don't feel out of place as traveler to PDX. The smoked Prime Rib on Weds was very good and not what you'd normally expect.

Good sports bar. Good friendly service. Nice beer selection for a mid sized bar/restaurant. Many TVs (shocking) which was good, as the Seahawks were playing. All in all, a pleasant experience.

Great bar food! I went here for a big late lunch based on some decent Yelp reviews and it was exactly what I was looking for. Cup of Chili = A+ *It had a great home made taste. Nicely seasoned with fresh cheese and onions sprinkled on top. The only thing disappointing was that I should have ordered a bowl not a cup. Diet Coke = A+ *Why would I rate a soda? Because the quality of a soda system says a lot about a place. This was perfectly calibrated, ice cold, served with a fresh lime wedge. Refreshing! House Club Sandwich (I forget exact name?) A+ *Perfectly toasted, huge sandwich, fresh cold cuts, crispy bacon, fresh tomato and lettuce. Substituted Sweet Potato Fries A+ *Nice cut fries (sometimes these style fries are too thick), crispy, you can tell their fryolator oil is clean. Nice flavor, generous portion... Served within awesome squeeze bottle of French Fry sauce to dip. Everything was spot on. Server was attentive and pleasant. They did a great job!

I'm giving this place a 5 star for very specific reasons: 1) great service!! Offered me the full menu even though it was 30 minutes to closing time. 2) the asparagus soup with crab meat was amazing! 3) atmosphere was inviting and pleasant 4) prices were great 5) server was very sweet!

Happened across this place after a long wet day of shopping in Portland. Food was very good, they had TVs all over the place for watching your favorite sport, and plenty of seating. Service was great too.

You won't be disappointed! We went over to grab a bite to eat since staying in a nearby hotel and boy were we surprised! This place is more than just a sports bar or some place that's near a hotel but they have fantastic food! We would definitely come back to eat! We had awesome prime rib and calamari too. Thank you Debra for great service!

If it weren't for the beer we would have ended up at Jack in the Box, which was in the same complex. If I would have realized beforehand how disgusting the food was I would have suggested we eat at Jack in the Box first and then have a beer at Sidelines. I had the turkey sandwich - meh. Even with cranberry there was something off about it. I thought it was the safest choice on the menu. My husband had fish and chips which he classified as "Van De Kamps finest." His fries were so overly salted they were inedible. Our waitress was grumpy, she clearly didn't want to wait on anyone. This place gets one star for cleanliness and another one for beer selection.

This is an open room with tv and a bar. At best you would eat a burger with a beer but I think that they use frozen burger patties.... I ordered an appetizer and a burger and they arrived 30 seconds apart. The crowd is a bunch of beer swilling townies hanging at the bar, not many people got here to eat. My suggestion is to drive an extra mile to buffalo wild wings and have a better time

  • Rose A.

I've been here quite a few times in the past few months. Very friendly atmosphere. Lots of big screens of various ball games. Dinner menu selection is very good and varied. All the dinners that I've had were consistently good. The one downer was I found the pork medallions over-seasoned (salt). Great selection of beers on tap, a general cross section of the PNW brewers. Check out the pizza, it ain't bad either!

In town for work from Orange County. Close to hotel and great service. Talked with the bartender who is also the owner. Great person and looking to improve on previous management issues. Mac and cheese is killer. Great micro brew selection. Only downside is the place is tucked in a strip mall and kind of hard to find. Worth looking for.

Food was all fake processed food, drinks were poured with a jigger, waitress was not friendly and spent more time avoiding eye contact than being attentive. Serious disappointment

As usual, ask the waitress/bartender what's best. Good local sports bar surrounded by airport hotels (us).
