What a great little coffee shop! I've been in here twice (stopped in here before getting a manicure next door at Visit Nail Studio) and both lattes I had were great. I always judge my lattes on whether or not I need to add sweetener, and both times, no need to add anything. Very friendly baristas (yes, they are easy on the eyes....) and the place just has a really nice vibe. Not really a lot of seating to hang out, but great light from the wall of windows. Oh - and they also get their sweets (muffins, pastries, etc.) from the Sugar Cube, so that's a nice bonus too. I know we have a ton of independent coffee shops in Portland, but this one is worth a stop if you are in the area.

A locally-owned coffee shop in one of the most corporate corners of Portlandia, ran by the nicest guys in the world? What's not to like! I have my go-to coffee shops all through town, and this is my "I've just got to crank out 90 more minutes of work before I can hit my nearby gym" location. But really, I'd still like Saint Simon even if they weren't convenient to my other errands or appointments. Their coffee typically seems to be from Coava, which is nothing to complain about. They're always quick to remind you that a cup of their drip comes with a free refill, which I appreciate. And they're pretty educated about their product as well. I've caught them geeking out about different flavor profiles on more than one occasion. Due to the small size of the space and the even smaller size of their tables, it's not the best place in the world to have a meeting, but if you're lucky and catch a prime spot, you'll be alright. They typically play pretty agreeable music, and it's a small enough space that there's not a lot of additional noise from crowds. Working solo is just fine at Saint Simon. One tiny complaint? They almost always want to keep the door open, and sometimes I get chilly. I don't want to start bringing an afghan to the coffee shop, but then again this IS Portland, so people probably wouldn't mind. That being said, I wish they'd close the door.

This. This is what Portland coffee shops are all about. Small, friendly, and specific. They do a few things here, and they do them well. There is a lot of wood, concrete and steel. From what I hear, the coffee here is good. I opted for tea to go with my fast wifi, cozy seating, and great space for a meeting. I could say it was the fantastic company that kept me happy, but no, that's not it. This joint just has a good vibe. This part of town is aching for more good coffee options like this. I can't wait to come back and try the coffee when I'm back on the caffeine.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent trip here while traveling in the Portland area. The staff were super friendly and made our drinks to perfection. I loved the Coava coffee blend so much flag I bought some to take home for a friend. The mocha is to die for. I wish I didn't live 3,000 miles away!

Great coffee; by far the best in this neighborhood. Three coffee fanatics, who happen to be brothers, brew up Coava beans. Ristretto doubles are the norm and done well. Today it was a rich Guatemalan "Perla de Huista". It's all about the coffee; a few pastries. Yes wifi and a standing counter.

Best coffee in the area! Love this place!

Go Now. Do it. Right now. They serve Coava beans and it's THE BEST coffee I've ever had. My 8oz almond milk mocha was strong, rich and creamy. My husband got an iced vanilla latte which was perfect on a warm day. They have a cold brew flight which looked awesome and what I would try if I had more time before flying back home.

Thank God we got these guys (and girl) in the NE hood. Like most reviewers have stated the team is so unbelievably knowledgeable and friendly. The place is small I guess but I've never felt crowded and mostly sit outside. And of course the main reason to go is the Coffee which is first-class. Honestly I've never walked away disappointed. Bonus points or star for pretty much always having a solid playlist on. PS. Hey potential guy customers just leave your girlfriend in the car. I don't take my lady friends in here anymore it's a bunch of good looking dudes in a rock band that own a coffee shop. $hit I do crunches but c'mon.

last week i was excused from jury duty(!) and decided to celebrate with a mid-day coffee experience. so glad i did! the baristas (mother may i, hubba hubba) were so knowledgable and friendly. they prepared my cold brew flight and we chatted a little about where the beans came from and their preferences. the cold brews i tried were so rich and flavorful; i could taste all the "notes" on the little card they provide for you. but be cautious -- it is more concentrated and the caffeine kept me jittery all day. can't wait to go back and try more. and enjoy the scenery behind the counter.

I'm glad that I had the chance to come here cause I almost missed out due to directorial assigned car duty but as with most things in my life I take control and there is a few things food wise that my friends know doesn't fly with me and that is the denial of my am London Fog, especially in Portland there was no way that this culinary ninja was going to sit in the car. The place is small and modest but they make a great London Fog. I'm still getting used to the trend of them putting cinnamon in their London fog but just rolled with it. The cost was very reasonable at $4. Customer service was awesome.

Great service, very friendly folks. It's a very small space, would not recommend doing any computer work here, the lady who was, certainly received a few looks. The space is very well setup for its size. Serving coava coffee.

Great coffee shop that uses Coava beans. It's a bit small so not good for a big group but great place to meet and catch up with a friend. I liked their wooden furniture too. I tried their new COLD BREW FLIGHT ($6.50) that has three different cold brews 4oz each with a bonus sparkling water. I loved the idea and all the flavors. The Coava cold brew and Gichuna were my favorites because they were very nutty and tasted like liquid cocoa nibs. Yum~ They also have a stamp card so it's buy 8 get the 9th free. Yay~

I love EVERYTHING about this place. They use Coava Roasters, which is one of the best roasters in Portland - i.e., you're in for some good coffee. The decor is minimalist and very clever with stained hardwood seating, concrete floors, Edison bulbs and a giant taxidermy deer head. The half & half at the drink bar is even stored in a Stanley thermos - it's all very PNW. The staff are the absolute friendliest and every goddamn one of them look like they belong in Kinfolk or a street style blog. You beautiful, wonderful humans. All of you. This is actually a great spot to grab coffee and catch up with a friend - or to just pop in for a really good cup of cold brew to battle this insane 90 degree heat we're having.

  • Autumn S.

Pros: SUPER friendly guys working the counter Lots of cold brew options - very tasty Pastries looked fantastic Services was quick Parking was relatively easy Cons: It's a small place so it can get crowded when you're doctoring up your coffee I was confused by the half and half container - is it supposed to be open or closed? What should I doooo? I will totally be back soon as I'd like to check out their lattes!

The vibe of this little place is such a perfect fit. They have found a great little shop that suits their decor and broistas so well that it feels like we can belong and be so comfortable here. However, it has a veryyy small inside that can sometimes be a little TOO cozy.. They have quite the selection of pastries that are so fresh and delicious, all while maintaining the simplest coffee menu ever. Not only do they not bother with the ridiculous amount of syrup flavors, they don't even have the typical chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla, caramel options. Only Vanilla. Thats it! But it is delicious. It goes so well with the coffee so that you can actually TASTE it. These guys are awesome!

Awesome little coffee shop! Wicked service, delicious coffee. Definitely hit this place up if you're in Portland. I had two iced lattes on a beautiful summers day. Free wifi. Totally chill atmosphere

Nothing beats Coava coffee, the Kilenso roast being my personal favorite. Glad I had the privilege of trying its cold brew incarnation here.

After 23 New Coffee Sundays, I have discovered the best iced mocha in the city. Ann, Suzanne and I all gave Saint Simon Coffee Company a perfect 5 stars. Ann and Suz gave an extra 5 stars each for Darin, "the cute barista". Darin is the inventor of the recipe for my magnificent iced mocha. Kicked Ass and Balls!

Happy Birthday!- S Simon are celebrating their one year anniversary with a free coffee for their customers today. This spot is tiny with fantastic coffee and lovely looking treats. I've only tried their lemon scone and it was decadent and better than dessert. The walls are dark and the seating minimal but the cheerfulness of the owners is an absolute ray of sunshine. Infectious for certain, this is a cafe I hope celebrates many more birthdays.

This place that is small shop has great coffee. I think this is one of the best coffee shops in Portland. It takes 15 minutes from Lloyd center by walking, or you can go there by bus. If you use the bus, it takes almost 5 minutes. You should use Google map, you can go there easily. When I went in this shop, it smelled like great roasted coffee beans. Then I ordered a vanilla latte. It was one of the best taste that I have ever drunk. It was not too sweet and had great espresso taste. This shop has some foods that look delicious. I should have eaten!! This shop looks new because this is very clean. Also, this is very quiet and has seats both outside and inside. You can choose either. So we can be relaxed inside and outside, also you can stay long time. I stayed for almost 1 hour. During the time, I talked with the staff who are so friendly. I actually enjoyed a conversation with them and spending the time. I really like this coffee shop. I want to go again. Next time, I will order black coffee!!

Love it!! I often steal away to this place to catch up on emails or just sit and breathe while drinking my favorite cup of coffee on the east side of the river. Parking is always interesting - be prepared to parallel park and maybe park in the neighborhood- but usually there is at least one spot out front. They are VERY fairly priced compared to the other specialty coffee shops. Please go visit. We'll all be glad you did. I love a hemp milk latte with a bit of honey... mmmm....

  • Heather J.

What a nice little addition to the neighbourhood, and the strip of broadway that (with the exception of Hale Pele) lacks many destination locations. This place is super duper tiny. But, the coffee was good, the atmosphere is really nice, and if I still lived in the neighbourhood would be a regular haunt. But, as it stands will just be a pleasant place to stop by when I'm meeting friends in the area.

Had a macchiato at the Starbucks at Chicago International and after arriving in Portland searched Yelp for the top coffee place. Luckily it steered me here. The macchiato here at St. Simon is a million times better than my crap coffee at Starbucks. Their sweet and salty cookies are amazingly good too.

I am so happy that Broadway has this place. More choices for good coffee is always a good thing. I had a French Press by Coava today and it was like velvet thanks to the barista's behind the counter and the delicious coffee roasters of course. Simply perfect and I love that they serve sweets from The Sugar Cube on Alberta! Makes it all the better. I highly recommend St. Simon's Coffee Co. for a quick stop in "to go" cup or a nice cup to enjoy at the bar while watching the cars go by. Oh and one of Kir's scones or a cookie.

  • Dave C.

I wouldn't say I gave this espresso bar a legitimate shot because I judged it before I ordered which in turn led me to getting an 8oz latte, which isn't the fairest way to evaluate a coffeeshop. I ordered this instead of an espresso bc 1) I was in Portland and the move to brighter, more acidic espressos and single sourcing has taken hold here and I'm not a fan 2) there was no scale near the bar meaning shots were never weighed to ensure consistency. Nevertheless the barista was very friendly, the shop, though small, was very welcoming and clean, and the latte I ordered was solid. Milk was the right temperature and steamed well and the shots, though not my style, were good enough to enjoy my latte. So if you're in the market for a latte, I definitely recommend. I would return if I was in the area.

Excellent gourmet coffee shop in a suprisingly underserved Lloyd District / Irvington neighborhood. I stop in just about every morning on my way to work and it's a great way to start your day. They have a small assortment of pastries to go with the Coava coffee. For those not familiar, Coava are a local Portland roaster, and one of the best at that. The shop is small, but beautifully decorated and the brothers who run the shop are knowledgeable and extremely friendly. The friendliness probably throws people who are expecting the typical Portland pretension, but I find it most welcome. If you're in the neighborhood, I strongly recommend getting your coffee here as the competiion is scarce and vastly inferior. * If you're in the mood for an adult beverage, Swift Lounge is just across the street and is equally outstanding.

You know that neighborhood coffee shop that strikes all the right notes. It has that friendly east side vibe, good coffee, and just a really comfortable vibe. That is Saint Simon... Saint of Coffee apparently. I don't often like to study in coffee shops but this is one that I would study in, read in, think about life in. It is that neighborhood coffee shop that you can go to and feel more of what you needed wether that be relaxed, productive, energized... It's a new one for me but will be a fave.

This is basically the greatest coffee shop in the world. All the drinks are hand crafted with the finest, local ingredients and the overall quality is outstanding. The baristas behind the counter are friendly and knowledgable and they work quickly and efficiently. The space is small but cozy and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Definitely worth checking out!

This place is the bees knees for a few simple reasons: quality of service and quality of product. I hate chains and avoid them like the Black Plague, and because this place is close to home, it's become my regular latte spot. The coffee is pretty incredible. It's made right and the milk is never burned. They also etch it for you, which actually makes me feel guilty for putting a lid on it. The service is awesome. The folks that run it are always friendly and make an effort to engage their customers without seeming phony. This is everything I want in my local coffee shop. I lucked out having this place so close!

Delicious cappuccino, friendly staff and great atmosphere. This place definitely deserves its five stars! One of the best cappuccinos I've ever had!

Finally, some decent coffee on Broadway! The interior is modern and urban, with enough seating for around 7-8 people. You can either sit at the bar in the window, which faces broadway, or the bench, which is surprisingly cozy. The place is decorated with terrariums, making it more inviting. It's also refreshing how wonderful and kind the staff is. My first time here was around 4 on a Tuesday, and I was the only one inside. Jared, one of the owners (he opened it with his bros), was there, and he talked to me for about an hour. The other times I've been in, the staff was just as friendly (and they laughed at my jokes). There are pastries, I've just never been in when they had some left. As for the coffee? I'd say they're so close to perfect. They serve Coava on the daily, which not many other places do. They've got a good machine and the right tools, but they're mostly new to coffee. My cappuccino was awkward - the foam kind of just plopped on top of the espresso. But, it tasted decent and had the right temperature. My only qualm is that Saint Simon does coffee in an almost untraditional way, much different from what Coava does. Bear with me, here, if you don't consider yourself a "coffee snob." The cappuccinos can come in a large (hmm) and there was mention to them not wanting to use demi-spoons for their smaller, traditional drinks. The mochas are made of Sunshine Dairy chocolate milk with a shot of espresso and some vanilla flavoring (sweeter than I'm used to). This isn't a deal-breaker for SS, it's just... weird. Their goal was to create an environment where people didn't have to be afraid of coffee and all it's facets, which they have done so well! They make people feel welcomed and invited, regardless of their existing coffee knowledge. But, metaphorically, they have A+ coffee and are serving it in a B or B- way. As for now, I'll continue to visit and drink the coffee, knowing that they're full of potential. It's worth the visit!

Love everything about this place. The decor is everything wonderful packed into a bright little cube! The coffee is so yummy for both coffee noobs and coffee snobs alike! Their menu is minimal, yet offers choices for everyone. The baristas are so personable, handsome, and sweet! Portland is lucky to have these guys around! Double thumbs up! Best Portland coffee experience for sure! -someone who lives in the Arizona desert.

I just left this place with a mocha. I'm not from this part of town but I was on my way to a job interview and a woman behind the counter smiled at me as I passed so I decided to stop in after (yeah, I'm a sucker for nice people) and I'm so glad I did! The gentleman who rang me up started me a punch card without me having to ask and when I ordered a small he brought out an 8 oz cup and a 12 oz to make sure I didn't actually mean "small" which, turns out, I didn't. The woman who made my mocha put some cute latte art in my foam! I have been a barista before and have never been able to master that so I have endless respect for people that do. And the coffee... I LOVE Coava and knew that coming in. This mocha is tasty and no hint of bitterness whatsoever. I might start making trips to Broadway just to visit this coffee shop!

Seeking a break from the desert of coffee options in the Lloyd District can serve the dedicated with this oasis. Do yourself a favor and have their wares added to your body anytime you come through the area. Pastries are high quality, the vibe is definitely friendly and (all-too-rare in Nouveau PDX) it is unpretentious. Significantly for those still unhip enough to care about such subtle and obscure details all-too-irrelevant to the current cafe/roaster/what-the-f-ever bubble in the city,, the coffee is perfect.

Love love love! They are so friendly and make amazing coffee. Who cares if it's tiny inside. Get your coffee and go get on with your day. Or go somewhere you know that will have seating instead of bitching about it here. I love that this place is around the corner from me.

Amazing coffee (huge fan of Coava) - and I love the ambience. Small little shop on Broadway, and you should definitely ask the baristas the story behind their name - it's quite a good one! They also offer Smith Tea, which are some of the better bagged tea brands.

Saint Simon is my favorite Portland coffee shop! The coffee is high quality (Coava beans!) and the customer service is friendly and laid back. I love running here in the mornings before work or spending time reading or catching up with a friend. I highly recommend trying out Saint Simon!

  • E M.

Cute, small coffee shop right off Broadway. Not too much seating but a good hideaway. Prices are a bit on the high side with a 16oz latte at $4.75 but the over the board friendly service is well worth it!

Not gonna lie, Saint Simon has occasionally pulled a better shot than getting it at Coava. There environment is the perfect mix of modern/rugged and provides the perfect place enjoy a hot tasty beverage.

So this is what espresso is supposed to taste like??!!Smooth, nutty, deliciousness with the perfect amount of jolt. It's honestly the best espresso/latte I've ever had, it's 16oz of happiness!! It makes me feel like that global giant coffee chain had been lying to me all these years - I don't have to sugar and flavor my drink up to enjoy it - I now savor every drop while fighting my husband and kids away from my cup (yes my kids snuck a drink of my latte bc I was talking about how delicious it was - they loved it. I kiboshed it will quickly bc if the caffeine, but this tells you how good it really is.)

Continues to be my favorite coffee shop in all of Portland. It's always sparkly clean. Baristas are always friendly and helpful. Ambiance is always cozy and comfortable. Background music always fits. Pastries are always fresh and tasty. And the COFFEE .... Always smooth and delicious, the way a cup is meant to be.

Saint Simon staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The place is quaint and tiny with only a few stables. However, the quality is among the best of the best. Plus, they roast and make a good decaf! Wonderful to have outstanding coffee in NE Portland.

Thanking my lucky stars (and the owners' entrepreneurial spirits!) this place exists! NE Broadway finally has good coffee!! You have no idea how much I've wanted this to happen; I'm irrationally happy about this. After discovering it on a walk last night (they can thank the display cup in the window at Clogs-n-More), I was psyched to check it out today. What I found: Coava Coffee, a sexy chrome Marzocco machine, dark wood and walls, friendly baristas (though, they were guys, so...baristos?). At first glance, it looks like it's more of a walk-through place than a chill-for-hours-with-your-laptop place, which is generally my preference - hopefully they'll find that sweet middle ground where people sip their coffee for a bit before moving on, letting the next wave of drinkers take a seat. Great first impression, Saint Simon. Welcome to the neighborhood!

    (5)
  • Jenny B.

Coava themselves charge $3 for their own pour-over. Saint Simon charges $3 for a 12-ounce *drip* of Coava. Still great coffee, but a completely different beast and outrageously priced. I can think of a handful of other places in town that serve Coava drip for significantly cheaper (paid $2 in Southeast this morning for the exact same thing) that also have bigger food selection and places to actually sit and work. I'd love to say it's great to finally have an artisinal coffee place on Broadway and that I want them to succeed, but I can't help feel like I'm being price-gouged every time I visit. Especially considering you basically have to get it to go because there's virtually no seating. They are indeed a friendly group of people though.

I don't drink coffee but the boys at the shop that I work at love this place. All they can talk about is the mocha and how good it is. The guys that work there are super cool too. Good service, good coffee, and attractive baristas.

We've been in a few times and not been let down...this coffee is TASTY! You can't go wrong with the vanilla latte or the french press. The latte is so smooth and creamy but the coffee still shines through. My husband says the french press is the best he's ever had. The shop is very clean and comfortable. Saint Simon's is a nice place to grab a great cup when you're in the neighborhood!

Great coffee, great vibe. The baristas are cool and the decor is nice. Yeah and the coffee is worth going out of your way for. Sometimes the pastry selection is a little thin though what they do have are really good. I'm gonna ding them for it. Awesome addition to the neighborhood and definitely filling a niche in the area.

Stopped by this coffee shop for the first time today. I was greeted by a couple of nice guys, the owners. They just opened up a few days ago and we're excited to be in the neighborhood. On to the coffee. It was top notch. They use Coava Coffee Roasters. A local small batch roaster. I'm kind of a mild coffee snob and I have to say, this is one of my new favorites, rivaling Stumptowns Holler Mountain. Overall, the place is a nice addition to the neighborhood. The space is small (I got the coffee to walk) and seating is at a premium. Still, it has a nice chill vibe and provides excellent coffee in an area where finding a good cup is a challenge.

SO GLAD these guys are in the hood! A mere 2 blocks from my place, I grabbed a cappuccino (which was a good cuppa) on the way to work today, chatted up the owners, who are just as excited to be in the neighborhood as I am to have them there. Loved the style and atmosphere, cozy and contemporary. About time the Sullivan's Gulch/Broadway District got a classy coffee place!

This is my new happy place. Cannot say enough amazing things about this new coffee shop! The baristas are personable, relaxed and knowledgable. Awesome atmosphere. They give great suggestions on what to order. GET THE VANILLA LATTE. Unlike any I've ever had. Also, the tea they serve is really good. You are in for a treat.

Quality coffee, great pastries, super friendly baristas. This neighbourhood needed a good local coffee spot and now it has one! It's a little on the pricey side but it's worth it.

Great little place with lovely decor that matches the richness of the coffee. They are the only coffee shop in the area that has an agreement to serve Coava coffee....a local roaster. Friendly service and great coffee

Go Now. Do it.

  • Chris A.

  • Shaedyn M.

  • Matt E.

After 23 New Coffee Sundays, I have discovered the best iced mocha in the city. Ann, Suzanne and I all gave Saint Simon Coffee Company a perfect 5 stars.

I love a hemp milk latte with a bit of honey... mmmm....
