Oysters, pickled dish and olives were delicious! Will return.

I really want to love this place, but left pretty salty. I came to celebrate a good friends birthday. Her husband made sure to call at least a week in advance to make sure that they could accommodate about 14 people on a Friday night, and they said no problem. Unfortunately, we had a lot of problems, namely the server. After inquiring when we would be getting additional seating, (since they squeezed 14 into an 8 top) only to be told someone else would take care of it ,we remained unattended to for quite some time. It took over an hour for the birthday girl and the rest of our table to get their first drink! We are thirsty and seasoned drinkers. Thankfully, I was smart enough to order two drinks to start, because I could see this was gonna go downhill. After one of our friends went to speak with a manager, they finally brought us another table an hour and a half into our service. The server had told us they were waiting for another table to open so they could fit us all. Not a good plan as we already had reservations and were already there, all squeezed in together with our four menus and empty water glasses. When I asked the server when we were getting our drinks she said that she would bring them out as they came up. Apparently, they don't have trays at this restaurant as she needed another server to follow her with cocktails...two at a time. Never once did she apologize for the wait time, being cramped or lack of attention. She really just seemed annoyed with me pointing out the obvious and chose to ignore me throughout the rest of the service, and I was actually being nice. Our food certainly came out staggered. We didn't get to eat together or drink together at any point, which was super disappointing as we made an effort to reserve a spot in which we could dine together. Maybe they should have been more clear that they were not able to accommodate us. I asked the server for my bill around 8:45 as I had to be home to my sitter by 9:30. She again ignored me so I threw down $75 of my hard earned money to an establishment that didn't deserve it. I will say that my drinks and food were phenomenal by the time I got them. Best mussels I've ever had. Cocktail menu and food menu is outstanding. That is why I give them two stars. Had our service been what we deserved, I would have given five stars. Maybe I would try it out again if going during a slower time with just one friend. I would like to give this place another chance as its ambience, location and menu seems great. Don't plan to party here though, you'll waste your time. I heard that the manager gave the table a bottle of champagne after I left to apologize for the shit show. I didn't get any, so I'm still salty.

I. Adore. This. Store. I've been there for happy hour and to shop, aces all around! My last visit was to replace some bubbly. Total Goldilocks situation - I'd previously bought a case of prosecco for my birthday party but it disappeared! Needed more. The super helpful Main Man Russell guided me to some lovely bottles at varying price points and schooled me in the key differences between cava and prosecco. I ended up with a super fun assortment of bubbles, and all at 10% off bottles during Happy Hour, too. In addition to a thoughtfully curated collection of wine, beer, and nibbles (cheeses, charcuterie, pickled things, chocolate), another thing this place has going for it you don't see every day: a whole section of vermouth! Varieties and brands I'd never seen anywhere else before. Manhattan Party, here we come. Get on their email list or like on FB to get the first wind of news, sales, and special events. My new go-to for bubbly on the east side. Gotta get in there for brunch soon, with a designated driver to roll me out.

In search of a charging station (iPhone problems) we walked past Oso and decided to check it out since they had their door open. They weren't open yet but they let us look around for about fifteen minutes. Not only is this place a cute, and intimate tapas-style spot, but they carry unique local products. I ended up buying a couple of gifts here. If we hadn't been so full from brunch we probably would have eaten here because the smells coming out of the kitchen were divine. I had a mimosa and hubs had a beer while we chatted with the bartender and waited for my phone to charge. The service alone deserves five stars.

If there's one reason to praise the changes afoot in our fair city, it's the establishment of this unpretentious but truly exceptional wine bar and bottle shop. An interesting and unexpected wine selection, first-rate food menu, friendly and knowledgeable service. For those of you looking for that perfect wine bar to call your new watering hole, this is about as good as it gets.

Not many vegetarian options, but a damn yum veggie sandwich with a perfect fried egg on top and a side of the best sliced homemade pickles portland has to offer. Smaller inside, two tables outside and good for lunch.

This place is hidden in plain sight, what with Dig a Pony right next door. There's nothing new under the sun at Oso Market + Bar but what they do offer is perfectly executed. Everything was spot on. Every. Thing. Awesome small plates with little smoky and spicy touches here and there. Very attentive service and a romantic atmosphere. We liked the wines we tried so much that we left with two bottles: a Sicilian red and a vermouth that Russell recommended that tasted like Christmas.

When a friend recently suggested drinks, I found that my mind immediately went to Oso Market. It's become my default. The place fires on all cylinders: ambiance, menu, preparation, service, clientele (please don't let it get douchey). Every cocktail, every glass of wine, every small plate (the roasted carrots, ermagerd) that I've had in my half-dozen forays to Oso has been top notch. I don't want it to ever change.

I came here for a relaxed atmosphere to work during the afternoon while waiting for a meeting. Wifi is horrible and wasted way too much of my afternoon. I should have just left when the bartenders could not fix it the first time. They seemed to be more interested in talking amongst themselves than seeing to customers' needs. Live and learn. I will never come back here if I ever want reliable wifi or fantastic, friendly service. Music and general ambience weren't bad though, hence two stars instead of one.

My husband and I just visited Oso for a light dinner and wine. It was amazing! I had the sardines of all things and they were delicious. We also had another appetizer, bratwurst, and the pickled veggies and they were all amazing. They also have great prices on wine and gourmet food items. Russell was really helpful in selecting wine and had lots of good suggestions. We can't wait to go back.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself at Oso. The space is fabulous with traditional New Portland design - very comfortable and open without being cavernous. I could actually hear my dinner partner! We drank draft beers from the well selected wine list - Pfiem IPA and the porter were excellent. Russel, the sommelier was amazing! Knowledgable and passionate about natural wines and alcohol/food pairings. He brought us samples of a few wines that brought me back to some of the best bottles I've ever had. The food selection was well crafted with excellent vegetarian and meat options. I'm excited to go back and try more. We went for happy hour - $1 off drafts and $2 off wine. Overall, excellent experience. Already have plans to go back. In comparison, I visited Trifecta last week and definitely preferred Oso. Though I'm not vegetarian, I appreciate when restaurants make an effort to devise interesting vegetarian options. I'm also the warm and intimate-type and Trifecta was quite cavernous. I'll be back to Oso as soon as possible!

So amazing! I can't wait to go back. The menu isn't too big, but they do everything right. I'm always wary of a menu which reads like a novel. I tried the olives (light and yummy) and two different sandwiches with the house salad (made with local greens and a light vinaigrette). Everything was fresh and delicious. The waiter was knowledgable about everything on the menu. He was attentive without being overbearing, a perfect combo. I couldn't resist a Woodblock chocolate bar on the way out. It was gone in minutes! I highly recommend this dining experience. I look forward to trying their weekend regionally themed brunch.

Really good food and friendly people! Mussels in chorizo sauce are bomb. Wines could be a little cheaper. I will most definitely go again!!!

My husband and I ate at Oso last Saturday for dinner. The food was wonderful! We both liked the feel of the place and the atmosphere. We ordered roasted carrots, bread with jam, chick pea and fennel salad, polenta with romesco and goat cheese, and the boar brat. Each and every item was cooked perfectly. The carrots were great (again cooked perfectly), the dip was delicious. The salad was a delightful surprise. The chick peas were warm and seasoned with a nice spice mixture; the fennel was pickled and had such a wonderful spice to the pickling brine. I could eat a plate of that fennel. The polenta was amazing. The romesco was smoky, and the combination of goat cheese and balsamic flavors was wonderful. The boar brat included pickled peppers, sauerkraut, and a German potato salad. Each component of this plate was fabulous. The beer and wine selections are great, lots for everyone to choose from. This restaurant is highly recommended!

The food is incredible! I loved the cremeux! The ambiance is great, a little mellow and great lighting. The servers are helpful and pleasant, plus watching the chef cook is quite a treat...he's quite the looker! I'll be back!

When I miss France, I go to Oso. If that doesn't convince you to go here, I don't know what will.
(5)Bianca G.
If you're looking for delicious food, awesome wine selection and great service - this place is legit! One of my favorite places in town
(5)Randy E.
Had an amazing Peruvian brunch (special menu) at Oso. Space is very cool, with your typical Central Eastside vibe. Nice beer and wine selection. Will definitely be back to try the regular menu.
(4)Ashley B.
Amazing food. Great wine. Friendly staff. What's not to love? The brussel sprouts were pretty spectacular, and the Panna cotta was to die for. I definitely recommend checking this place out.
(5)Nicole W.
This place is great for buying a bottle of tasty wine. But to sit and have some snacks and drinks at the bar will cost you. most of the wines by the glass are over $11 and the food is very overpriced for the quantity and quality you receive. I hope they re-tool the menu to be more accessible. The octopus, for example, was a little past its prime. Russel is awesome though!

We stumbled on this place while wandering late at night while visiting from BC. The look of the place pulled us in and we were not disappointed. Staff were very friendly and helpful in recommending drinks and food items that would accommodate our needs. They had a fantastic cherry cider that we unfortunately never found out the source of.

Nice quaint little spot. Huge wine selection. We stopped I for a small bite. Oysters were good and the mignonette that accompanied was as well. Service was a little slow. Other food deemed I be decent.

This is really nice spot to chill out and actually be able to talk to your friend/company. I ordered one of their signature cocktails and the IPA. Their version of a margarita cocktail was tasty and it had a lot of interesting subtle flavors. The IPA was crisp and perfectly cold on a hot summer day. Inside, it's all dark wood and steel making the place look modern but inviting. We also tried their special bread pudding. It was a little drier than the usual bread pudding and had a slight flavor of orange but really tasty, especially that sesame toffee? We didn't try more of their foods but everything that passed by me looked wonderful. Definitely would come here more often but I admit, parking is a pain. The staff, while definitely competent and efficient, not the most friendly. I know it is hard to have the illusion of being cool while smiling, but I think it's possible! I would come here again if I'm in the area and try the food.

Cool spot! Drinks are very good, a little pricey but a very cool little spot. They have lots of wine and beer options in their bottle shop as well as Olympic Provision meat! Nice spot to pop in for a drink.

Adorable. A bear with a wine bottle in it? Love the logo. 3.5 stars rounded up. Wine: plenty of affordable selections - was a bit taken aback at the $10 corkage on bottles FROM their store. Cheese: please less rind and more cheese in the future Chicken liver mousse: so lovely Just a nice cozy time with my friend having girl talk.

Went for a Polish Brunch today. On the first full wknd of each month, Oso does a brunch representing a different country. So, this month it was a Polish Brunch. We enjoyed it and loved all the great flavors. The place was empty when we walked in right at opening, 11am. It soon filled to the brim and even the bar was packed. Looking forward to trying a regular Oso brunch or dinner there sometime soon!

Brunch - Mic Drop. That's all you really need to know..but just for good measure I'll expand. I've been for brunch a number of times and have had a delightful experience. I've been seated immediately and service has been with a smile. While it seems it's been slowly picking up steam, the dreaded brunch line has not been an issue as of yet. Just pop in and sit right down to enjoy your fresh pressed coffee or mimosa! I love the sandwiches, my favorite of which is the artichoke chicken salad - available during brunch. I organized a work client dinner here that turned out to be a total hit. I called in advance and they were able to accommodate our larger party in the back area. Staff was ready for us and created a really great experience. The intimate setting was perfect. For dinner I advise ordering a bunch of little goodies and eating tapas style. The wine selection is wonderful. They have a bunch of bottles to purchase for at home enjoyment as well. In addition to being a lovely place to dine they have artisan food stuffs that would be great hostess gifts or as a way to treat yo'self. I have not yet been for Happy Hour but they have it and if I was a betting lady, I'd bet it was damn good. All and all, Oso is a great little place to enjoy the finer things.

Update: added a star for a total of 5 after dinner tonight. The menu has changed from good to better. We enjoyed boar brats, polenta, lamb meatballs, tons of filberts and peaches & cream to die for. Eat all those things. My boyfriend goes to this spot near his office for lunch all the time, and finally took me there for dinner recently. First thing I have to say - the service was EXCELLENT. Our server, let's just call him Brunette Bearded Guy (original in Portland, I know), was patient, knowledgeable, and attentive. When I didn't know what I wanted he gave suggestions, offered to come back and DID, and checked on us plenty but not too much. He made perfect cocktail suggestions based on our conversation that we were very happy with. One was the house cocktail having something to do with smoked tea syrup and a negroni-type drink with bourbon. Yum all around. My boyfriend had his first pickle back, and this was a great place for it. They have different brine options! He ordered the fennel and the BBG gave us a sample of the pear, which was so sweet it reminded me of a drinking vinegar. We also had a glass of sherry that Russell the bartender said was one of his "favorite things ever" made of figs, but it mostly reminded me of prune juice. Very sweet and not a lot of kick. Food was yummy, cheese/meat plate was a respectable portion, and I was very happy with the overall experience. Of course we took some of the triple cream home, too.

Best Negroni of my life from Russell... And for a good cause at that! Thanks for supporting Bradley Angle, Craig & Holly!

Wow!!! Beet fritters on special- amazing taste exploration. Chef Jason Buss blew us out of the water with every plate! Washed it down with oysters and Commons. Very comfortable and quiet setting.

We went here for a lovely breakfast and that is what it was . Perfect setting perfect amounts of food and just a fantastic atmosphere can't rave enough about this hidden gem its amazing. I think their brunches are pure majick !!

Amazing. I had the cauliflower steak with squash blossoms stuffed with ricotta cheese. Pretty epic! Our server was attentive and nice. The fish plate was intriguing too. I wouldn't have chosen it off the menu but once I saw it I was impressed. The sardine pate with dill cream cheese and mustard was just super classy. We had fun. :)

We've been to Oso for brunch, snacks and then dinner tonight. The brunch menu had my entire family very happy, especially the open face french toast. Tonight, we went for dinner. We enjoyed the special appetizer--padrons & salt cod brandade--along with our fave Kumamoto oysters. We shared two montaditos, the cremeux/fig/honey that left us licking the plate and the marinated octopus that was served on a potato (octopus cooked perfectly). The warm choc chip & bacon-butter cookies (three) about sent my husband over the edge, so ridiculously good. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of rose (Bandol) and great service from Russell!
(5)Mark B.
Great concept and excellent food and drinks. Cocktails are carefully made with in-house ingredients, and all of the food is made in-house with local, seasonal ingredients as well.
(5)Kellie W.
We actually went here for drinks while we waited for a table at Kachka. Friendly staff, great drinks, and unique eats to order and buy. Would certainly go back.
(5)Mary B.
The fabulous Anna B. knew I would like it here. She was right. We wandered over here after happy hour at Slow Bar and I was quite impressed. It's a beautiful space with lots of wooden decor. The staff are super knowledgeable about the wine they carry. Also the wine is very affordable. After finding out my wine preferences, I tasted a couple and bought a bottle for $12! Well done! They also serve an interesting menu of food. Plus they carry some pretty amazing bitters and vermouths. I'll be back here to check out the menu and try more wine!
(5)Z G.
Go to Oso Market. It's yummy in that big-expectations-because-I-live-in-Portland-and-expect-good-food food. You won't be disappointed. Unless you get the tart on the brunch menu. Don't get the tart, but get everything else. I've only been for lunch so far, and it's proving to be a great lunch spot. The staff are very friendly, and the little market has some interesting (and pricey) local finds.

Does getting "stuck" paying the most for small plates and beverages at a birthday party constitute being the "host" ? More on that later... Attended a birthday get together at the new OSO market in the SE industrial dstrict...a unique full bar tapas sandwiches and salads with a southern European flair. They offer a great selection of wine port and bubbly by the glass bottle or buy and bring it home for a small corkage fee..I also like the corkage fee (just a quid) for beer. The table of 2 shared a number of dishes...standouts were the date filled bacon wraps( awesome)... The cremeux montaditios ( tasty)...roasted carrots (if you like carrots excellent and the Mussels ( nice-tasty...the only disappointment was the Nicoise Salad.. Was it the dressing ..Way too much vinegar. Other plates were all tasty and reasonably priced. The space is open and the staff totally accommodating. A warm minimalistic vibe. The initial review comes in at 4 stars...the miss was simply the salad and due to their newness a little scattered ...but we were a fun but challenging table. I'm excited to have OSO as a hood addition...we've already decided to be back ASAP. So....when it came bill time my experience usually with big parties (especially Bday) is to split the bill in even chunks or if needed..separate checks.. However what more than half of the table did is identify what they thought the ordered( not necessarily ate) and paid in cash....when it was said and done I Paid for 50% of the bill ...I was told this was a Portland thing....huh?:)... Regardless the birthday girl enjoyed and was happy to pay the premium...Half of us moved on another location and was compensated handsomely. OSO needs to be on your list....

Oso is fabulous, always impressed with the quality and creativity of the menu as well as their selection of beverages. Owners and staff are equally friendly and accommodating. Feel lucky to be across the street!

Wow! Fantastic surprise. Menu was one discovery after another. Bartender/owner Colin was not only charming, but guided out gastronomical journey and offered up beautiful wine. This is a hidden gem. I will be back! Soon!
(5)Ali E.
I've been searching for a good wine bar with tasty snacks for some time and Oso was perfect! Great wine, amazing food and lovely staff. I will definitely be returning.

Visited for the first time yesterday. Loved the decor and the vibe. A bit dark and hard to read the menu. Front half is the restaurant/bar and the wine and beer market is towards the opposite wall and back. Food was excellent. Everyone is our party was satisfied and portions were just right. Wine selection is definitely good. Didn't have the beer but the selection looked good as well. Service was excellent. Everything was explained well and extremely friendly. Will be coming back.
