Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

First time ordering and will be the last! Love the delivery part, but the food had no flavor, bland. Just weird. $30.00 with tip. Oh well, first impressions last Mr. Chen.

You can't spell Chinese Kitchen without Chen and, at Mr. Chen's, some mean Green Beans made me a fan of this Chinese Kitchen in Northeast Portland ... where finding any decent Chinese food from any kitchen is rare enough. The Dry-fried String Beans ($7.99) featured some of the freshest Green Beans ever sauteed to near perfection with Onions and Carrots. My wife is from China. She anointed Mr. Chen's crispy and fresh green beans some of the best she's ever had ... even better than from her mama's kitchen. (5 stars) My choice from the menu wasn't nearly as awesome. A pile of Young Chow Fried Rice ($8.99) with Shrimp and BBQ Pork pan-fried with steamed White Rice, Eggs, Peas, and Carrots was a fairly tame take on a staple dish from kitchens across China. (3 stars) We also shared a plate of Szechuan (Sichuan) Beef ($11.50) featuring irregular cuts of Beef stir-fried with Peppers, Onions, and Mushrooms in a slightly spicy Szechuan Sauce. It was too sweet for me to think of it as anything from Sichuan and the beef was too chewy. You can probably defrost and microwave a better version of this in your own kitchen at home. (2 stars) A couple cheap starters were cups of Egg Flower Soup ($1) and Hot & Sour Soup ($1). They were worth a buck...and not a penny more. (3 stars) Mr. Chen's is on the side of a non-descript strip mall. Driving by, it'd be easy to miss this Chinese Kitchen except for the electronic message board scrolling the restaurant name on the storefront. Overall, the food from Mr. Chen's Chinese Kitchen rates as a local Chinese food win ... and mostly just for those lean & mean green beans.

Don't order from this place. These are bad people. We had a vegetarian call to make sure a dish was OK to eat. Apparently that call was annoying (sorry a health issue is a problem?) because they very intentionally left one piece of cooked chicken bone in cartilage in an otherwise vegetarian dish. It was big enough to very clearly be intentional. Screw you, and screw disgusting businesses like this.

I'm so done with going downtown and getting drunk on New Years Eve and then finding my way home afterwards. Done with freezing my butt off waiting for the train ride, running in-between bars to and fro.. waking up with a horrid headache and money I should not have spent. So forward on... not only do we stay at home we get our food DELIVERED!!!! And it's NOT pizza!!!! What a deal eh?? OK so this place's location is a little sketchy to say the least but I've lived here forever and so that does not bother me. Let's revert back to when I partied on NYE and we can talk more on sketchy... However they deliver.. remember? NOTE: We called the restaurant directly - not Grub Hub so no stars lost on a delivery service that's not related to the restaurant. Mr. Chen's got a nice way of ordering food online too. It makes it very trouble free and you can pay right there too. We had a little problem though online so we just called him and ordered directly. He said 60 minutes and we got the food in 40! ON NEW YEARS EVE! We ordered: Ma Po bean curd, shrimp and lobster sauce and shrimp chow mein.. Was delicious, fresh tasting, and plenty of comfort right there. And that's all the delivery line you could want. Not to mention the low prices!

Found my self in a Monday pitch; too tired to cook or drive any where again, and too hungry to wait for something to defrost. Well, my hubby and I couldn't agree on anything but Chinese, so we went with Mr Chen's again because it's the only one that delivers near me for a decent price; for 22$ total we ordered for two! Anyways, we ordered a number #6 and some crab puffs. They were nice enough to upgrade me the dinner to low mein (soft noodles) instead of chow mein. The crab puffs were ok. Very fresh and average, I've had a bit better other places but this isn't the worst either. The number #6 came with pork chow mein (sub to low for me), fried shrimp, and sweet and sour chicken. All was fresh, very good, but again, but still high to middle of the pack, except for their fried shrimp for some reason was stellar! The only thing that was strange was their "Chinese ketchup" (as we call it lol) was very tangy, unusual, and it wasn't used. I will give them a shout out again when in a pinch, and up-graded their ratings from 3 to 4 stars.

I ordered delivery from here and it was delivered very quickly, which was awesome. The food, however, was not good at all. The Mongolian beef was cooked well, but covered in a bland, salty, unappealing gravy of some sort. The orange chicken was overly-breaded, mushy, bland, and didn't taste remotely like oranges. The potstickers were mushy and bland. Even the fried rice was bland. I definitely won't be coming back.

This is my first time ordering from them and I will never do it again. The food isn't all that great to begin with. But, they really messed up my order. I hate crunchy noodles and even double checked my order on GrubHub to ensure I put it "pan fried." I did. Did I get that? Nope! I also ordered two hot and sour soups, one medium and one extra hot. They both tasted BLAND. I paid WAY too much for this. Update: I have changed my one star review to a three star. They replaced my noodles free of charge, which was greatly appreciated. The soup still needs work though, but good customer service!

I needed food delivered and didn't want to stick to the usual "Pizza". So, I checked out yelp and found this place. I was excited after seeing decent reviews so I gave this place a try today. I'm not impressed! All though they deliver fast. The food was blan, no taste, hard just honestly not good. I paid $35 for two dinners a soda and crab puffs. Mmm I should of stuck w/ordering Pizza. At least I would of tasted my food & it would have saved me money. I won't be ordering from here again! This was the first time and I must say that this'll be the last I'll order from here.
(2)Amanda M.
We've ordered from here a few times, and the delivery wait keeps getting progressively worse. We are now over an hour and a half after initial order, and when I called about the order they said it would be another 20-30 minutes. The quality of the food is meh, and it's certainly not worth waiting 2 hours for. Won't be ordering again. Edit: After another half hour of waiting, I had Grub Hub call them and the restaurant says they never received the order. (The order that they confirmed to me and said was on its way) So now it's 930 and we have no food. These guys won't just forget about you, they'll lie about it. Don't order from them.
(1)Patrick H.
Really GOOD! Won Ton soup! Loaded with fresh veggies, tender chicken, bbq pork and tasty won ton! plus a few shrimp as well. Snow pea chicken and the Mongolian beef were also quite good!
(4)Bill L.
We had a problem with the delivery but the owner showed excellent customer service in trying to remedy the situation. We haven't tried the food yet but customer service is important to us. We're willing to try again at some point in the future.
(4)Tim B.
Not Bad overall! The food is good Americanized Chinese, nothing amazing! However what makes this place a go to is that it delivers and is reasonably priced. Service is always fast and friendly. The food is always hot too!
(3)Amy G.
I love Mr chens always consistent, close to my house, great options, the food is yummy, plus there not overpriced so that's great, I'd recommend anything off there menu
(4)Katie L.
I had been ordering here for about a year and a half. The first few times the food was ok not the best but delivery was awesome and the staff is really nice. Over the last year the food had gotten progressively worse. The last order we got the fried rice was absolutely terrible....it was yellow there was zero flavor I'm not sure how long it was sitting out. The rest was pretty bad too. They were nice enough to replace and re-deliver but too little too late. I really want to like it because its nice to have Chinese delivery and the people are super nice but the food is just sub standard
(2)Bo A.
So I'll start off by saying that the food is great. it's always a hit and miss with Chinese but Chens really hits the spot! I've only delivered from here so this review is all about my delivery experience. The first time I ordered they didn't say on the site if I had the option to choose delivery. So they took an hour before they called about my pickup and I told them I wanted it delivered. No biggie! They came right away and gave me my food. I ordered again and put in the special instruction box to deliver to my address. I called to confirm it and the guy who picked up sounded rude, but said yep they knew to deliver it. And so here I am an hour later... still waiting. Delivery is kinda rocky but it's worth it I guess. Good food!
(3)Leah H.
Overall. It was pretty good. Delivery through GrubHub was awesome! It was nice to have something other than pizza or sandwiches delivered. I ordered vegetable fried rice, mao po tofu, crab puffs, and spring rolls. Everything was pretty tasty. You don't get that many spring rolls in an order, but it wasn't crazy over-priced. I feel like we would order from there again. I think next time I will search for a fried noodle or something. The fortunes in the cookies are weird...
(4)Kim G.
We have ordered food from Mr.Chens about once a month for over a year now, and the same order never tastes the same twice, but I have never taken the time to post a review til now. We ordered tonight and although it was quick, nothing had any flavor...the fried rice was so bland, the General Tsao's chicken was way over done which made the chicken hard, and the Beef/Broccoli had only 4 pieces of broccoli in the whole order! ...and don't get me started on the spring rolls...just awful! We love the convenience, but this place is a little pricey, which would be ok if the food was good. They need to think flavor, and consistency!
(2)Claire G.
Hey, not bad. It's good to have a wonton soup available in the Gresham area. It's not anything fancy, I mean it's typical Chinese food. The wonton soup is decent, the service is good, the restaurant is clean, and the price is more than reasonable. The area lends plenty of entertainment out in the parking lot; on that note, maybe get your order "to go".
(3)Nichole A.
I was excited to try this place because of the raving reviews on here. We ordered delivery (we were .5 miles away). Delivery took 1 hour (no joke. Literally 60 min....for an order for 2 ppl) The food was awful. Sweet and sour chicken was dry and tasted like old grease. The rice was dry and had an odd flavor. The bbq pork and seeds was cut into thick fatty slices and extremely dry and rubbery. We will NEVER be back. So frustrated that we even wasted 25$.
(1)Jessica M.
Hard to figure out what is pork, chicken or fried shrimp. All looked the same and not good. BBQ pork smelled bad and looked worse! Deep fried stuff was dark and over cooked. Paid $27.99 and threw most of it out.
(1)Aaron J.
they went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. I had ordered stuff with no celery and they made a small mistake about it, they came back and delivered a 2nd one done right and gave me a 3rd one too! I've had their food a few times and would have given it a solid 4 before this but because they went beyond to make good on the situation. This will definitely be my resident Chinese food fix going forward. Oh and I recommend the Mongolian Beef and the Happy Family - do be sure to get your szechuan scallops out quickly as they will continue to cook if you leave them in the container.
(5)Jessica C.
We got pot stickers-really doughy and bland; green beans-mushy and bland; house lo mein-meh; salt and pepper shrimp-so bland and seemed like the shells were still intact; pork fried rice-dry and bland; snow peas and chicken- this was actually good! Not gonna be back though...oh..and hot and sour soup...guess what...bland!
(2)Ruben H.
I ordered Chens to go and it came hot. The food tasted great. Orange chicken, pork fried rice, and chicken lo mein. It did take quite awhile for the food to get to my house via delivery. The price was good and all said and done myself and my girlfriend were satisfied. I would return I would just order a little sooner.
(4)Veronica P.
My chicken was still raw, the rice was old, the moo shu pork was the worst I've ever eaten, and the general tso's chicken was overcooked. Here's hoping I don't end up with salmonella poisoning. I will never eat here again.
(1)Chris L.
Great food, I really like the fact that when the first driver was late the second driver showed up with the order he was supposed to give as well as present me with the same order but made again to make sure I had hot food when I ate. I think they did a great job of making up for being late which they didn't have to serve me in the first place as I was out of there delivery range.
(5)Phillip N.
I couldn't believe my ears when these guys said they'd deliver all the way out to 136th ave. talk about amazing service!! I usually end up spending about 30 bucks or so when I order Chinese so I figured I would do the same here. It turns out their servings are gigantic!! This is my new go-to as long as they are still that flexible on delivery. The driver seemed pretty cool. The waitress that answered the phone has trouble hearing a bit. This could be my phone though. I'm just ecstatic about the serving sizes though! Their wontons were great, their general tso's was delish, their crab puffs were pretty good, the only odd thing was that instead of Chinese hot mustard, they put plain yellow mustard in the sauce bag. I had some here though so no biggie. Anyway, this place rocks and they deserve loyal customers. Check it out!
(5)Shannon L.
I've been getting food from these guys for almost two years now. Amazing food, wonderful service. The driver even helped me fix the weathering strip on my doorway because he saw it was coming off, and then he left me with the tape in case I needed it for something else. Wonderful people, I recommend this place to everyone. Thank you for always bringing me delicious food on time. Much love
(5)Angela W.
Exactly what kind if food I was expecting, reasonable prices.... And they deliver in my food desert neighborhood East of 205! Cool. Will be ordering again.
(4)Shanice M.
This place gets two stars from me. I don't have extremely high standards for Chinese food in Portland but the chewy beef I received in my scechuan (probably spelled that wrong) is where I draw the line. The fried rice was alright but could definitely use some more flavor. The pot stickers were chewy, almost rubbery in the middle and rock hard on the corners. The only reason I give this place even two stars is because they deliver, and if I have to eat one more pizza I might just lose it.
(2)Jordan T.
Used the EAT 24 app to order my meal and Mr Chins didn't let me down. By far the best take out I've had since I've moved to Gresham! I highly recommend the mushroom and chicken!
(5)Bonnie H.
Delivery!!! Person on phone was extremely polite and delivery service was quick- within a 1/2 hour. Food was very tasty and you get a lot of food for the price. We enjoyed our experience very much and will be ordering from here again. Good choice for delivery Chinese food.
(5)Haley H.
Ordered through grub hub and they were late so we called grub hub. They called the restaurant and said it would be another 1/2 hour. Basically it took 2 hours for our delivery and the food was overcooked, old and inedible. It's too bad because I had high hopes based on the ratings here.
(1)Don H.
Thank you Mr Chen I have missed having Chinese Food delivered in Gresham. Mr Chen menu has a good assortment of the favorites . The staff is friendly and nice. Every time I have ordered something new on the menu, I have been very pleased. Please everyone give it a try! I am sure you will find something you like!
(4)Jerico N.
The reason I picked this place was because they're literally 1 mile away from my house. Unfortunately they took forever to deliver my food. I only placed 1 entrée and 1 side and they took over an hour to deliver it to me and they're 1 mile from me, now imagine if I had ordered 3 meals with side. very upset that they took that long, I guess that's why they charge you a $3 delivery fee and if you order online which I did you have to tip when you check out. Very smart Mr Chan. With that being said I do have some positive feedback about the food. Although it wasn't hot when I got it which pissed me off (and usually when I eat Chinese food it's always hot ) it was good and I enjoyed it after I threw it in the oven for a few minutes. Would I be ordering from them again? Probably not. But if for some crazy reason I do i think I'll be picking it up myself since they're only down the street from me.
(2)Lonnie L.
I'm so sketched out. These people never have the same price twice. First it's 1.00 to substitute then it's 2.00. First it's free delivery over $20. Then it's 3.50 for delivery. I like their shrimp and their sweet and sour but the woman is always rude and the prices are never the same. She just told me they change daily. Oh yeah? Well, your inconsistencies lost you my busines.
(2)Jeanine S.
Today was the first & last time we will eat their food. We ordered a ton of items off the menu to try & it's really bad when 3/4 wasn't good. First off the fried rice was dry, tasted like next day fried rice out of the microwave. The General Tso's chicken wasn't edible at all. It was incredibly over cooked & the breading was thick. We had to use a knife to cut it. The sesame beef was chewy. The list continues, I could list more things but who has the time. The only thing that my husband liked somewhat was the kung pao chicken & the BBQ pork. That was it. We ended up throwing all the food out. What a waste of over $50 bucks!
(2)Jenny T.
They make really quick deliveries. I was to tired to cook or go out and I ordered from them online. The food was pretty good. I would recommend to my friends.
(4)Deb H.
Damn decent food, quicker than promised delivery, nicest delivery person...thank GAWD we finally found a decent Chinese delivery in the Gresham area!!
(4)Mya C.
I'm not normally. Big fan of Chinese food but I was looking for a place besides pizza that delivered in my area and ended up finding his little gem !!! When i called to place my order the you young lady who had answers was very polite. I ordered the Szechuan beef for myself and the shrimp fried rice for my daughter. The driver arrived promptly and included soy sauce and fortune cookies. The portions were huge which at first made me worry about the quality. Both orders were amazing! Very flavorful and the veggies were crisp and tasty!!! I've since ordered 3 times from there in the past month and wasn't disappointed either times. The only thing that I would change is the size of the celery cuts hey had in the dishes. A little to big for me. I would have liked it to be a bit smaller but besides that it's fantastic and this is coming from someone who normally doesn't order Chinese food.
(4)Mindie E.
Went last week and forgot to add a review. It was wonderful. The food was amazing, fresh, and flavorful. The staff were pleasant and attentive. The location is a little shady, a dark corner of a strip mall that you'd never know was there...it took me driving by a couple times to figure out where they were after a friend told me about it. I'm excited they offer delivery and will have to try that out soon.
(4)Lawrence P.
I ordered the food from grubhub at 8:08 PM because I was hard up for Chinese food and I received my text telling me my food would be arriving between 9:05 and 9:15 PM. I had no call after 9:15 Pm apologizing for being late and around 9:50 I called to see when they would be arriving. The lady was very rude and not apologetic about the wait, with a lot of "yeah yeah yeah" nonsense. When my food came it was close to a hour late. I gave the deliver man my money for an order that was about $18.50 and he just took my 20 dollars went to his car and drove off without giving me my change. I wold have given him my change and some extra as a tip normally but he was late and never apologized for being late and he does not even deserve my change. The food was lukewarm and the the pot stickers were stale. I will never order from this horrible place again. I gave this place 2 stars before because it normally has good service and I was feeling nice. It's not worth going to if this is going to be my experience for this lackluster at best Chinese food. I wish they had a good Chinese food place around me that I could order from, instead of the garbage that's around me for delivery.
(1)William I.
I found this place by accident. Went in to try some quick food to go. Amazing portion sizes and quick service. Food is great and recommended for anyone that looks for good Chinese food
(5)Ashley W.
Great service!! Ordered take-out delivery tonight... Were slightly out of their range and they brought it anyway!! Love it and loved the food!! You guys saved our craving after this crazy snow storm!! Thank you again!!
(5)Erin J.
I'm updating my review as I have been to Mr. Chen's twice since my first review. Both times they got my order 100% accurate. Still not sure what we got the first time (it's a mystery). This is hands down some of the best Chinese take out I've ever had. My favorite aspect is how crisp/fresh the veggies are. They are cooked, but still crisp. No soggy celery at this place! The soups are delish and the crab puffs are awesome.
(5)Daizy S.
Mr. Chen's is tucked in a tiny strip mall, its small, decor is nothing to speak of, however, the service was very good, and everybody was very nice. The food was good, its standard fare. We had the appetizer platter; bbq pork...a little dry, but still good...crab puffs, standard, egg rolls, tasty, fried shrimp...on the smallish side, but not grease logged. Entree's of General Tso's chicken...the sauce was tasty, House fried rice, it had lots of protein, we asked for no egg which they accommodated, and chicken chow mein, with large pieces of breast meat, mushrooms and celery. All n all it was a good meal, portion sizes were large, prices were decent, and they deliver within a four mile area which is fantastic!
(4)Rat B.
You get a lot of food for your money, and everything I ordered was great! Make sure they get your address right when you order delivery. I've stopped by for carry out too, and they're very fast!
(4)Heidi F.
We are so happy to have a delivery Chinese restaurant! The food was fantastic and our deliver man was very respectful and courteous!
(4)Jason N.
Very friendly and fast. Good food. Could use some improvements on the outside to make it more inviting.
(4)Joshua N.
Service was excellent and friendly. Portions are huge, and prices were reasonable. Wife had the chicken and green beans and I had the general tso. Both were very tasty...hidden in a corner of a strip mall, but worth looking for...And they even deliver within four (4) miles
