This is my favorite sushi in Portland! This Mio Sushi location in particular is great! Cute neighborhood restaurant - lots of regulars! Everyone is super friendly. Angie always remembers my girlfriend likes a side of Sriracha. & the Ahi Tataki roll is to die for.

Blandest sushi I've ever had. Ordered 3 rolls, only one had a little flavor. Worse than sushi from the grocery store! Spider roll was FULL of crab shell. Server refused to leave a sauce off of my roll until I told her I was allergic.

my husband and i love this place. sitting at the counter is our new favorite thing to do. Great access to the sushi chefs plus more intimate for us to talk. love the quality of food here.

Great Mio Sushi location! The food is the same as every other location (delicious and reasonably priced), but the staff here is incredibly friendly and accommodating.

Another pricey yet mediocre sushi place. It's sad when you spend $35 just for yourself and walk away disappointed and still hungry. For the quality for sushi I received, I could have gone to Sushi Land for much cheaper. Even the bento plate I had ordered cannot be put into words except WTH was that? It's a shame because this area could use a great dining establishment especially it's it right smack in the middle of homes. I was hoping this could be my go to sushi joint since it was a few steps from my place. I guess I'll stick to O-sushi.

Large yummy rolls at a reasonable price. The staff at this location are the friendliest of all their stores.

I gave 4 stars not only because the volcano roll was great but because we arrived right at closing and they were very accommodating in letting us eat our dinner without rushing us!! Yummy

Great sushi and good prices. I'm no sushi expert, but I went in with a pretty hungry date and we ate for about $32 (only 1 glass of wine). I'm sure there are cheaper sushi places, but I think they probably use cheaper ingredients. I felt like the food and service was on par for what I paid. Would return based on location and price.

My favorite sushi place for the value I get. I wish it was open on Sundays! The staff is also very friendly. My favorite roll is the Mt. Fuji. I'm not a fan of raw fish and I like a little sweetness to my rolls so this is perfect.

This isn't amazing sushi but it is good and fresh! I do give them 5 stars for service. They are so attentive and nice. They make you feel like you're the most important person there and for that, I keep going back!

The sushi here has always been fresh and delicious. You couldn't ask for better service either! Everyone is helpful and genuinely nice.

I love Mio Sushi!!! Cute little restaurant, affordable sushi, the staff is always friendly, the service is always speedy, and the food is consistently delicious! Oh and they have a patio in good weather. My daughter gets a kids bento box of miso soup, rice, edamame, and 2 entrees and it fills her up for $8. Their goma salad is perfect! They have a ton of rolls for people who like to mix up the sushi. I have eaten at this location at least 10x and have left happy and full every time.

Mio has and will always be one of my favorite sushi spots, I've been visiting various locations since the days I started with a California roll over 8 years ago. I'm pleased with the expanding menu including unique spicy roll options, the clean efficient sit down restaurants and friendly service. I really enjoyed the Mt. Hood Roll, Sunset Roll, Vampire Blood roll, avocado rolls (at least those are my current go too's)

I'm surprised to see bad reviews here, but to each one's own. During my four years as a University of Portland student, my friends (and parents when they were in town) and I frequented Mio on Friday or Saturday nights when we wanted to get off campus. Although I had to wait in an area with limited space, I have never had an issues with service once my friends/family and I were seated. I always got the strawberry lemonade, and loved the addition of real strawberries. It was so good that I would take advantage of their free refills. :-) I also loved their "sushizzas," (sushi pizza) and have yet to see this item at other sushi restaurants. However, all the sushi I had is amazing and not super expensive considering that it is high quality. Still hungry after sushi? I'd recommend their green tea ice cream and key lime claypso. The key lime claypso is has the texture of mousse but not as rich as its chocolate cousin--although I may be biased as a key lime fan. :-) My friend turned me on to green tea ice cream, and given that I am not a green tea fan, my recommendation says a lot. Though I have mostly been here for dinner, a friend and I had lunch the day before I moved. The restaurant wasn't as crowded then, so if you want to avoid crowds and long waits, lunch is the time to go. I know some reviewers have compared this location to others, but I can't add my two cents as I have only been to the Killingsworth location. I miss Mio dearly since I left Portland after graduating in May 2012, and will come back should I find myself in Portland.

Sushi there is why I stopped eating sushi for so long because of mediocre quality of fish, rice and sauce (unless you love sweet sushi!). The staff is great but I am not about to spend that much money for that. It was not cheap at all given the poor quality. Not my cup of tea but the place is constantly packed so go figure.

This is one of our go to sushi places. We haven't been in a while because of the construction on Greeley. The seating is limited, but the sushi is fresh and so tasty! You won't be disappointed.

  • Shawn M.

Had dinner here recently with my family who were visiting from out of town and they loved it. Even my sister's non-sushi eating boyfriend was relieved to find a tasty chicken teriyaki dish. I've eaten here many times before and I can't remember ever being disappointed. Great service, super clean restaurant, and an awesome menu. Definitely my go-to sushi restaurant.

I haven't eaten that much sushi but I will never go back to Mio sushi ever again. I thought I was ordering a variety of 3 different kinds of rolls (3 California, 3 shrimp tempura, and 3 Mount Hood) for a total of 9, a nice portion for lunch for one person. To my surprise the waiter brings out 66 pieces of sushi with a smug look on his face. I asked him what was this and why didn't he say something to me when I was ordering? I obviously was confused and he walked away with the same smug look on his face. He could have said hey, this is a lot of food for one person are you sure you are reading the menu correctly? It doesn't say on the menu, 8 pieces total per order, it just has a picture of the particular role you are ordering. I think this is bad business practice, poor customer service and the fact that he was smiling the whole time with no sincere apology for not saying something to me sealed the deal on this place. I paid for the food because it was the right thing to do but what a waste!

Mio Sushi is a good neighborhood spot for a sushi fix. Friendly staff makes you feel welcome and the food is consistently good, as I'm a regular for lunch. I'd recommend stopping in for a bite if you're in the neighborhood. Four stars: suggested if you're looking for a good bite in the area. I'll go back based on reliability of service, consistency of dishes and convenience of location.

  • Chris S.

A definite go to place for sushi. Not the best, definitely far from the worst as well. Middle of road and descent prices. Jane, one of the servers, is incredible. Our 8 year old daughter will sometimes respond "JANE" when we ask her where she would like to go to eat.

    (4)
  • Dean R.

Boring and vanilla. The lunch sashimi plate is tuna, salmon and snapper. no other options (or if there were the waitress wasnt aware). Spotty service. Great sake selection. I'll be back because it's close, not because its anything special.

We had a wonderful date night. The service is always so friendly. I had a bento he had a perfect for the weather bowl of romen and we shared a couple rolls. The food was great and perfect for the price.

  • Ashley S.

I've been to sushi joints all over Portland, but this is my favorite. The Genmaicha tea and the edamame are perfect. The fish is fresh and delicious and everything is priced reasonably. The service is always great, although sometimes the chefs just stand there and watch me eat when they're not busy. That's weird. I love it here!

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in P town. The sushi is grand, the service is good, they have interesting rolls, great miso, great sea weed salads, I can afford to eat there and whats not to love. What else can I say. I love going to the Mio on Killingsworth St. I would not say I feel this way about all the Mio sushi's because they are not all the same, but this one I love. I always feel welcome when I come in and on most days the service efficient and pleasant. The Sunny's special #2 and the Poke salad are my faves! The Mt. Fuji and The Kani Hammah rolls are amazing and I never tire of the food at this place. I have been going there for years. Go eat there. You will be happy you did.

If I could eat here everyday I would! The sushi chefs are awesome, if you go here sit at the bar. They are so nice and talkative. Small world is that the main chef use to work at a sushi place across from my house in Las Vegas. We hit it off immediately, he had me trying all kinds of fantastic items on their menu. I love going in to a place with personality, I loved that even though it had been a month since my first visit not only did they remember me but they remembered what I ordered and liked. I wish I could remember the name of the plates I liked but I know one of them was a yellowtail appetizer plate and I think their mio roll ( white tuna spicy ponzu and seaweed salad) . My only thing is im not really big on sauces and a lot of the rolls have a sauce on them so if you are like me remember to ask for it on the side so you can try it first

  • Marla H.

I usually hit the Mio on Hawthorne that I love! I figured I would give this Mio a try as how different can they be? Where do I start...While the servers were friendly, customer service wasnt their top priority. There was only 3 full table in the whole place and we had to ask for one thing after another, from water to sauce to reminder of things asked for at the time or ordering....I wasnt extrememly unimpress with their service. When I ordered, I got one thing off the happy hour menu and a few things off the regular menu. They tried to charge me regular price for the Happy Hour food, as I didnt order a drink. It doesnt say this anywhere on the menu, and when I said that, the waitress told me, ya we just say that. Well they didnt "just say that" and I didnt pay full price. My hot Sushi was almost warm, the spicy mayo was WAY more mayo than spice. Over all we were very disappointed in this Mio and will not be returning.

This restaurant is way too overrated. It is Korean-owned, and the dishes I have tried have all been desecrated in some way. Having lived in Japan for a number of years, and blessed with a Japanese wife with serious cooking skills, it is dismaying that people associate this with authentic Japanese food. Hot udon soup in a chicken broth with meat?? Cold udon (zaru udon) with teriaki sauce to dip in place of what should be made from dashi and shoyu? Revolting! Sushi rice without vinegar? Just call it "shi," since the "su" means vinegar!!! Do yourself a favor and stick to Japanese-owned for Japanese food and Korean-owned for Korean-owned for Korean food--in face, go try Toji Korean Grill House, a great example of what Korean food has to offer.

A Mio lover, moved from NW to N, our first time at this location, and there was a pebble in a bite of my Spider roll! Thought it was unusual for Mio, so we kept eating, then my boyfriend bit down on a pebble too!! The waitress brought our check, we told her, she told us they were remodeling (?!), then she told the staff and management (who didn't bother to come over) and offered to make us ANOTHER spider roll - because their "rice has rocks in it and sometimes they don't get them all out"(!!!!) Now, when was the last time you ate something with a rock in it and wanted another? Needless to say, we shouldn't have paid, or had to pay, but we didn't want to make a scene. We definitely won't be back anytime soon.

Well, I'm one of those. One of those people who doesn't eat seafood, but reviews restaurants where it's the main ingredient on the menu. I like Mio. They have a great selection of rolls for the non-seafood eater and they're reasonably priced. I like their small green salad too, the dressing is awesome. Have always had great customer service and never left the place disappointed. Cons of this place are that it is small and there is almost no parking.

We usually get cheap sushi, like sushi land, but sometimes you gotta break out to medium sushi. No no all kidding aside, this place is great! All of their sushi rolls are fresh and tasty. Pretty big too. It's not the best of the best in Portland but I've never had a problem there. I give it five stars because it was good and the staff was friendly and fast. I like this place.

Absolutely love Mio Sushi on Killingsworth! It is close to my home and has a parking lot out back - limited spaces, but still good to have rather than paying to park downtown somewhere. I have been to this location twice now (in the same week - it's addicting!) and both experiences were great and relaxing. The staff were friendly and I love how they acknowledge you immediately when you enter. You really do not get that from other restaurants. Prices are reasonable and the seafood we've had thus far has been fresh and well prepared. I love their house tea (genmai-cha I believe), but it comes to you scalding hot. Just be careful! On my last visit we ordered (for 2) goma salad, beef negimaki, sushizza, Lovejoy maki, Oregon maki, and the Dragon II maki. Everything was delicious. The only thing I'll make a note of is the sushizza. This was a bit difficult to eat because all the toppings were placed on nori (seaweed) and then either baked or broiled. The end result was, well, kind of soggy. They included forks with the dish, but we still had to 'saw' at it to get a piece off the plate. And the occasional piece of foil came with it. The sushizza was tasty, but I think if they revise the way it's prepared, it would be a 100% excellent dish. Mio Sushi is definitely on my list of places to eat at often and there's plenty to try on their menu! Teriyaki, bentos, noodles, and sashimi. And I must remember to try and save room for dessert - the tempura ice cream & banana combo sounds amazing.

As sincerely as I can post this, I was so relieved to have a reliable sushi/Japanese restaurant to relieve all of the occasional Nihongo angst that builds within. To my rescue, a Mio Sushi up in NoPo, right off Greeley! Here, it can certainly get so busy, I'd waver to say the wait was worth it, if you got stiffed and was dealt an hour wait verdict...I mean, it's reliable all right, but I could also certainly drive downtown for a higher quality experience. And so, yes it was great that I could, instead, just place an order by phone, get down an exact time the food'd be ready, and approach the ingesting at home. My humble Asian opinion: sashimi is fresh enough, but not stellar. The portions are very decent, as are the prices. For me, though, what a joy to not fight the parking war in Nob Hill, circling like a dingbat to get as close to NW Johnson as I could, and just come here instead. If I was *really* ambitious, I actually could have ridden here too; another healthier (for me n for environment) option!

After reading very positive reviews, this place was a disappointment for me. The place is very nice and clean, the service is fast and attentive, but the food just is not good enough for me. The house tea (genmaicha) seemed watered down, their miso soup is just OK. The food isn't authentic at all (whoever heard of adding bell peppers to yakiniku?), so don't try to go beyond sushi rolls and it'll probably be OK. That said, the lunch deal is quite cheap, which is the only positive point I can make.

Follows is a copy of my feedback to management regarding a disappointing experience on November 26, 2012, at the Killingsworth Mio Sushi. While I did receive an acknowledgment in a timely manner, to date, my concerns have not been addressed. I will continue to frequent the Hollywood location, as I have always received stellar service and food there. Comments and Questions: I have eaten at Mio Sushi Hollywood numerous times--always excellent from service to quality of food. Ate today at Mio Sushi on Killingsworth but was disappointed and disturbed. The Asian server was friendly and efficient, but beyond that, I would never return to this location. The quality of the food was inferior, and the other server exhibited "less than passing scores." I saw her setting tables--she had several chopsticks in her hand, examined them, and then BLEW on them. I have two questions--what was on them, and why did she think blowing on them would make them sanitary? I was totally grossed out. I then saw her thoroughly wiping her hands with a towel, thinking she had just washed them. However, I then saw her through the semi-transparen t curtain into the kitchen eating food and licking her fingers, At that time, my food came, so I ate it, but did not enjoy it. It was not that hot, and was way below par from what I have had at the Hollywood restaurant. My last question, and this is an important one, did she wash her sticky, licked fingers before she handled any utensils or food that was served to future unsuspecting customers? I hope you will address my concerns.

Got takeout, pretty tummy. Sitting at the bar was fun... Nice sushi chef. All around good experience. Get there right when they open, it's fast!

Went there for a friend's birthday lunch. Luckily we arrived before the lunch rush so we got a parking spot and a table. The sushi was delivered quickly, was presented nicely and tasted fresh. The service was the only con. It seemed that out of the 2 servers, 1 person did all the work while the other looked like he was constantly confused and lost. I had to ask for more iced tea when it was obvious that they could see that my glass was empty. I expect better service when there are only a dozen tables to look after.

An excellent choice for lunch in this 'hood. Comfy, clean, not crowded, no wait, good basic Japanese food and Japanese beer. The miso soup was sort of boring. I'll go back soon with my friend who lives nearby and taste more of their fishy things. Rumor has it, they are very busy/crowded at dinner.

GREAT sushi and while they don't have coloring books or anything fancy, my five year old daughter had fun! The wait staff was very friendly and they even brought special chop-sticks so my daughter wouldn't feel left out! Dragon rolls aren't too hot, but VERY good! I highly recommend Mio for Sushi... Parking is a bit of a problem when this place is busy, but the food is worth walking a block!

    (4)
  • Jim K.

Meh. Nothing special here. What really got to me was that they add cucumbers to all of their rolls. Want a spicy tuna roll? You'll get cukes in it. I just feel cheated, not fancy. This place could do so much better, but since they have a good location, they will probably never be forced to do so.

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST SERVICE I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!! AND I HAVE WORKED CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR OVER 10 YEARS!!! My boyfriend and I go to eat there for the first time and they tell us to take a seat outside so we do. 2 other groups of ppl show up after us and are also seated outside, both of which had water served to them and their order taken BEFORE anyone even stopped by our table or brought us water or a menu!! We sat there for more than 20 minutes (after we grabbed a menu ourselves)!!! why I waited that long I have no idea, I should have left after 5 minutes of being ignored. We finally got up and left, I called them and all she said was "oh sorry"...THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH! There's a reason we were the only ones there that they didnt want to wait on and the only thing I can come up with is my partner is in the military, and yes that was visible perhaps THEY DON'T SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!! UNACCEPTABLE! Will never give our business to them again.

I went to Mio Sushi last night for dinner. They were very busy bus got us seated fairly quickly. The wait staff were friendly and never rushed us to order. I have to give them props on their ordering menus! Instead of writing your orders on paper that will just be thrown away, they use dry erase markers on laminated menus which is a great way to help the environment. I got the Tempura Appetizer, a Super Eel roll, a Double Crunch roll, and a Mango Iced Tea to wash it all down! The tempura came out hot, and even though I don't normally like butternut squash unless it's filled with sugar and bacon, the tempura'd butternut squash was really good! Next came the SUSHI!!!!!! The super eel roll was perfect and needed little to no soy sauce. The double crunch roll had just the right amount of heat from the spicy tuna and a perfect crunch from the tempura shrimp in the middle and the golden brown and crispy exterior! Finally....... The mango iced tea! I think this is one of the most refreshing things I've ever drank! The glass had tons of fresh mango chunks floating around the top... Mmmmmmmm... Now I really want another one!!! The price was a little higher than I'd like which is why this is a 4 star review instead of a 5 star review. For my entire meal it cost me about $25 not including a tip. I ate my left over sushi for lunch and it took me right back to last nights dinner. I can tell I'll keep going back for more!

I am very picky when it comes to sushi and though conveyor belt sushi is cheap it was getting old fast. I decided to try this place and all I have to say is YUM!! The sushi was fresh and the staff was on top of things. The miso soup tasted like it was made fresh not sitting in a pot all day. Though it is pricey it is well worth it if you want good fresh fish. Highly recommended.

Good sushi for the price, unpretentious and attentive waitstaff. Nothing here is like WOW but everything is good and I haven't been disappointed by anything I've ever ordered. They also do a great take out order which is a huge plus in my book. Go here if you don't feel like traveling, the attitude of some of the fancier places, or if you just want to amongst pleasant people.

  • Jack P.

Highly mediocre sushi. I get that Mio Sushi is relatively inexpensive compared to most sushi. Still it was the blandest sushi I've ever had--supermarket sushi included. It's like they didn't vinegar their rice at all. Nothing was good--not the raw or the cooked. The deep fried soft-shell crab in their spider roll was overcooked and chewy with so much batter it was hard to taste the crab. Would not go there again. But maybe I'm missing something because when I was there on a Wednesday night, the place was packed.

  • Erin H.

I have probably been to this Mio over a dozen times, the one in NE once, and the one on Hawthorne once. Why? Consistency! Out of all the sushi places I have found (I found lots) this is the only one that seems capable of getting it right every time. Fresh fish, friendly staff, good prices, and in the case of NoPo Mio, really awesome chefs! (can't say the same for the other Mio's as I haven't eaten there a gazillion times) My only complaint is that they don't have Donburi. Put Donburi on the menu and I will be here every night.

  • Kristy R.

super fresh, so good! prices are really reasonable, also...and we can walk here! everything was better than we expected. 4 stars because the servers were slow to take our drink orders, and very slow to bring the check [had to flag them down]. will definitely be back...maybe it was an off day.

We were lucky to snag the last table during lunch time since we noticed it was quite busy on a Monday afternoon, ok except the tables outside of the restaurant and some counter seating were still available. The $6.95 Bento lunch box is such a steal!! There was a really nice sizable salmon teriyaki, with a side of salad, lots of ginger and a huge 10-piece California roll with 2 pieces of vegetable gyoza! Something this calibre would have costs $10 in Mountain View or another other Bay area restaurants during lunch time. We also shared the cucumber salad and the ahi tuna salad and two pieces of Unagi nigiri and the bill came up to $17 without tips added yet. Cute lil restaurant in the northern part of Portland, friendly staff and a great and reasonably priced lunch menu! We are coming back! I want to try the tempura green tea ice-cream! :) They also accept to-go orders since we noticed other patrons coming in to pick up their orders. Update: We liked it so much, we had lunches two days in a row at this sushi joint! The bento box are certainly delicious and such a great deal!

If you really love great sushi..........go somewhere else. it's all super americanized and watered down as hell. fish does not taste fresh. imitation crab rolls galore. teriyaki salmon bento wasn't too bad. i'm glad the food carts have arrived. little to no ambiance. i must say good service, nice people.

Mio sushi is a solid sushi joint for Portland standards. I remember I used to go to a place in Clackamas and their "Special Roll" was made with canned tuna but instead of being wrapped in Nori, it was a tortilla. Now that was weird. Mio isn't like that. I've only been to Mio once, at lunch time, so I can only speak for their lunch specials. I ordered one of their specials, I think it was around $10 and consisted of a few pieces of sashimi and a California Roll. It was decent and it filled me up. The restaurant is nice and clean and the service is attentive. I think I'll come back and see if they have spicy tuna sashimi, that'll be where the real test lies. I love sushi and wish there was a sushi joint on every corner, maybe then the prices would be a bit lower, but I'm just happy knowing that there is a sushi joint less than 2 miles from me.

Got a poke salad and some maguro nigiri because of all of the positive reviews, however I was very disappointed. The poke salad was greasy and had WAY too much sesame oil. The maguro was super bland, not even the soy sauce helped! Don't waste your time or money here!

Just moved to Portland from SF and was happy to find this sushi place in our hood. The fish was both fresh and tasty. It wasn't the most amazing sushi I've ever had, but for the price it was solid. My only complaint was that they sear their albacore sashimi, and I am not a fan of that: I want it raw, raw, raw. The inside is cute and pretty busy for a Monday night. They also do take-out, and I see that in our future.

Mio Sushi has always been a dependable location for a high-quality, reasonably-priced lunch. I've only been here for dinner once, but if my memory serves, the menu is the same for both lunch and dinner. The sushi is always very fresh and tasty, although for my particular taste buds, I don't find too many of the rolls to have my favorite combinations of ingredients. I'm not a fan of cream cheese in sushi rolls, for example, but a number of Mio's rolls are creamy smooth with dairy goodness. I know this appeals to many people, but I'd rather enjoy the subtle nuances of the fish and vegetables balancing against the rice. On my most recent visit I tried the beef ramen soup, which was flavorful and chock full of noodles and veggies. The service has always been extremely friendly on every visit, but there is one issue I should comment on: for some strange reason, on EVERY visit to Mio Sushi, I have had my sushi order messed up. Either an item gets left off accidentally, or they double up on something I didn't ask for, or there is a mystery item brought to the table. The servers are always exceptionally polite in correcting these minor items (and half of the time I don't even mention it), but it is puzzling to me that I have so consistently had my orders scrambled - especially since they read back the selections before taking the menu order card back to the kitchen prep area to confirm what I've selected. Ah well, there are worse crises in life. The restaurant is clean and tiny, and I have never had to wait long for a table. There is a small parking lot on the north side of the building (access from Greeley Avenue), but it's always full every time I go. I love this place and will keep coming back... even if the ordering process isn't always the smoothest!

This particular Mio Sushi is not my favorite. While the staff is friendly, the service is usually slow. Lately we have noticed a decline in the preparation of the sushi. We even discovered that some of their rolls are pre-made and refrigerated. We learned this one evening when our roll was very cold and had that old refrigerator taste. Their current sushi chef gets very indignant when you try to have him remake a particular item. He will stand there and argue with the servers and eventually remake it anyway. The presentation of the sushi has declined as well. A great sushi chef takes pride in presentation. He does not. My recommendation: if you are on a budget and just need a sushi fix, Mio Sushi on Killingsworth is okay. We have been to other Mio Sushi locations and they have each been better. It is worth your time to drive a bit further to the NW Mio or try another sushi restaurant altogether.

I continue to be amazed by the excellent service at Mio Sushi. Efficient. Friendly. Clean. Tasty. Cheap. Sounds like 5 stars to me.

Food was okay, wasn't too impressed but would have given it 3 stars if the service hadn't been so mediocre. We were seated in a crammed table, despite the multiple open tables in the room. After sitting with our menus at the edge of the table to indicate that we were ready to order, we waited... A table was seated next to us & the server walked away, THEN walked back and took thier order first, not intentionally, she just hadn't noticed us. It ended up taking about an hour from the time we were seated to the time we received our food, which would have been fine if it was busier but it felt pretty irrational for us to have waited so long for 2 rolls & some udon. The table that had been seated after we were ready to order was paid and leaving shortly after we received our meal. I hate to be negative but I won't be returning when there's so many other options for sushi.

The BF and I went to dinner at Mio Sushi last night and had an excellent time. It's a nice cozy little place, and was surprisingly busy for being a monday night. Never-the-less we were greeted and seated immediately and our server was on top of keeping our water filled, our orders taken, and our food being delivered. We had the fried tofu appetizer - always a favorite. Very tasty, and not too pricey, fish was eaten and enjoyed. I also saw some people pick up to-go orders, which is fun for a sushi place!

My family loves this Mio, and we would go here every night if we could! Seriously, our 5 year old son's favorite food is sushi because of this place. From the super warm welcome we receive every time we come in, to excellent service and most importantly the tasty sushi...it cannot be beat! Definitely recommend their Happy Hour deals on drinks and sushi combos.

I'm no sushi connoisseur, but I know what I like: anything with a lot of flavor. I love rolls with tangy, slightly spicy sauces. Not a fan of masago (fish eggs) so I try to avoid it if possible. While visiting a friend in Portland I asked if there was a good place for sushi and this is where we went. It's fairly small but the service was prompt and friendly. I was tempted by the curry chicken, but it seemed silly to go out for sushi and not get any, so I settled on two "premium" rolls: the Ichi (Real crab, cucumber inside and covered with shrimp and Mio's sweet mustard sauce) and one of the four "Mt." rolls, I think it was Fuji. It had baked salmon, crab, avocado and a sweet tangy sauce. Both rolls were quite good and extremely fresh. My favorite was the Ichi, which was a candidate for the best sushi roll I've ever had, which is saying something because the sweet mustard sauce was extremely subtle and I'm definitely a sauce guy. The Mt. Fuji was yummy, but as I always remind myself, after 2 or 3 pieces of any roll that is baked and has a generous amount of sweet sauce, you need to mix it up with something different or more subtle. A $20 lunch is probably quite a bit more than I would hope to spend usually, but in a world of "you-get-what-you-pay-for", the quality of food would make me a definite return customer, were I actually local. Guess I know where I'm coming next time I return to Portland.

Not bad. The fish was fresh enough but I noticed most people were just ordering rolls, not Nigiri and Sashimi. Crowded and always a wait but the prices are pretty decent. Minus a couple of stars for serving my quail egg without removing the whites (big Sushi no no) and because the chef didn't know as much about sushi as he should have. I guess that's what happens when you get sushi from a non-Japanese sushi bar.

it may seem like i'm a mio-holic since i've been to 3 different locations, but this place is a close second in distance-from-home and it's cheaper and has far better service than ukiyoe, so we go here sometimes. like the verison on hoyt, fish quality at this place is bested by the johnson location handily. and this place is freakin' noisy every time we've been there. honestly, i'd rather get takeout from here than eat in the restaurant. and takeout sushi is almost against my religion.

I would simply say that this place is solid. The sushi was good, but definitely did not blow me away. I had a few of the different rolls, and tried my friend's sashimi. I will say, that the eel I had was very good, and fresh, and that I really enjoyed their mango iced tea - had real pieces of mango in it. I was there at lunch, and got a table right away - the service was ok, but there was a long wait for our food. Price was on par with what you would pay at most sushi places. Other than that, its a solid lunch spot, but wasn't blown away by any means.

Great sushi, fresh and creative rolls. The service is fast and friendly - lunchtime gets a little crowded but the kiddos are welcome here and it's really cozy. I have been going here for years and I've never had a bad experience at this place. Five thumbs up.

I can't count how many times I've been here-it's a ton. They're always super nice and fast, even when they're slammin. The quality of food here isn't incredible, but it's never bad/spoiled. All the fish is fresh and tasty. Get the shrimp sushi pizza. Seriously, it might sound weird or gross but it's freaking candy. The "secret" sauce is so rich and creamy-you'll get addicted like I did.

when u go to a sushi place, dont order ramen. thats what i did. the miso ramen was subpar. and there were frozen (not fresh) shrimp in my soup :( i was tempted to return it to the kitchen, but didnt. i also ordered sushi and this place is ok. its perfect for a quick, lunch-time bite with coworkers. and relatively inexpensive for sushi. i would return for lunch and will prob only order rolls. thats the safe bet.

Really, really good sushi for really, really cheap. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. Dinner for two with a few gigantic Japanese beers comes to about 30 bucks.

My boyfriend and I just ate dinner at Mio on our vacation...and loved it! The prices are very reasonable and the sushi is wonderful. The atmosphere was a lot better than I expected due to the other reviews. There were a bunch of people there eating dinner with friends. And the waitstaff was very helpful. Overall, I'd say it was an awesome place and awesome sushi!

We have tried other Mio locations, but Mio North is our favorite. The rolls seem a little yummier and the staff is friendly and fast. We go there for lunch, up the hill from work, and if you get there at opening, you are in, out, and on your way without spending a ton and you get a good meal too! I love their spicy tuna rolls and their Philadelphia rolls. They don't make the cream cheese a main ingredient in the Philly rolls, its just a nice, subtle flavor. And their crunch rolls are good too. I've had sushi at more expensive joints around P-town, and I think for a chain, Mio hold its own.

Rather bland, even the so called "spicy" salmon and the rice was a little mushy. Also no beer on tap.

The closest sushi to my house. Alas. The sushi is, well, OK. The servers, likewise. The fish, passable, but not exquisite. The selection, fair-to-middling. Authenticity/ethnicity... you're kidding, right? The rolls have poor structural integrity (they fall apart), and sometimes the temperature of some of the roll ingredients cook the fish (not ideal). Basically, tolerable and cheap, but I tend to avoid it, if at all possible.

Mio Sushi was the first place I ever ate Sushi, and I loved it the first time. Thought I was addicted. Then I tried a different place and Mio was not as tasty. They do have good options for vegetarians like myself, and also work to make things friendly if you have food allergies. Downside, last time I came we asked where the source of their meat was and they acted like we were crazy--the server went and asked and it turns out that their chicken comes from Cash & Carry. Not ethical and not the best quality by far. I have been told Bamboo is awesome--I will be trying them next. I will still eat at Mio, but I have my concerns.

"The Oregon roll. I don't know where it came from. I don't know who made it or why. I only know what it does. It fills. It fills. I don't know. It kind of puts itself into your mouth. Your fingers move. You learn. It wants to be eaten, that's the thing. And it knows when you want to eat it. And it helps. And the miso too. And then they come. The Cenobites. The demons. You might think it's delusion, but it's not. I saw them. I looked into their eyes and they looked back at me. Creatures from Hell, hungry for sushi."

I have always been impressed with the friendly and attentive staff. Is it the best sushi in the world? Of course not. Unless you are a stuck up picky connoisseur you will like the food there however. The pricing is good and the food tastes fine. I always look forward to my next visit. I've made an effort to try everything on the menu and so far have not been disappointed. If you haven't been it's definitely worth a try.

Excellent selection of japanese style food. The edamame and tofu appetizers are very good as well as the noodle dishes.

This place has the best ramen noodles! For under $5 you can get a steaming bowl of veggie & noodles in a delicious miso broth. The sushi is fresh and everything I have had on the menu was tasty. You can easily feed several people for under 50 bucks. Its a pretty fast paced sushi joint they seem to get people in and out quickly. If you have to wait, it wont be for long. The service is excellent, the waitresses all seem friendly! Overall this place is worth a shot, you won't find such tasty cheap food anywhere else!

The place was packed, but the waiting wasn't long to get a table. The sushi rolls are fresh which is always a plus. The only downside was parking.

we were celebrating our 5th anniversary and wanted to do it at this location. we began with a kirin beer and the eiko fuji sake, which quenched our throats. next we ordered the cucumber salad, which hit the spot. after finishing the salad, we had the asparagus sesame seeds rolls, the mt st helen, and the mackerel....all so tasty...the outside seating is fine, the server friendly and efficient.

Good selection of sushi and very good. The fish always seems fresh and good too. It's small and can get busy, so large groups are harder to seat. The price is reasonable too. The service is good, water kept getting refilled and food came quickly.

My bf and I went to Mio Sushi to satisfy our sushi craving. It was my first time and I was pretty impressed. The service was very friendly...as we walked in, we were pleasantly greeted. We ordered these rolls: Philly, Shrimp Tempura, Sweet Veggie and a couple of other rolls. Our food came out pretty quickly and was much appreciated since we were starving. They were good sized rolls, super delish and good prices. The only thing I was slightly disappointed in was not seeing a roll similar to my very favorite roll which is basically a tempura-ed Philly roll. Maybe someday they'll create one. I'd definitely want to go back again to try more rolls. Plus their menu is pretty big so in case you go with a non-sushi lover, they can order a bento boxe or noodles. The website shows their complete menu and is super helpful!

Had dinner here tonight, was craving some Mio. I've only been to the location off of 23rd, but this cute place met the same standards as the Nob Hill location. We ordered a bento box of salmon terriyaki (really good) and a few rolls and sushi. The yellowtail sushi was extremely good, melt in your mouth butter. I was really surprised at how good the california roll was, I think I liked it better than the Portland roll. The Dragon roll had a little bite (I like that), and major amounts of fish, which can either be a good thing, or a little bit overwhelming aesthetically. The service was friendly and fast. The reason for four stars, there were a lot of younger adults there...and we had a group of girls next to us that had three at a two person table...I felt like we couldn't have a conversation very easily and they were kind of loud...not the restaurants fault, but I know UP is not far away and probably a lot of their students eat here. Oh, and we got a sushi 2010 calendar! Ha ha. Looking forward to going back. I think that it's a reasonably priced sushi place and very good quality.

If you're looking for high quality sushi for moderate/reasonable prices, look no further. We always return to Mio knowing that we can have a dependably delicious sushi feast without spending too much. We have other favorite spots around town that have pros and cons (better ambiance and higher prices) but Mio is a great old stand-by.

The same great sushi as at the other locations of Mio in a small and intimate little space. It was bustling busy on the Monday night we were there (hurray, they are OPEN on Mondays) and we felt lucky to get a table right when we walked in. The bento is good and a balanced meal, and the sushi rolls are good quality and everything looks and tastes very fresh. Reasonably priced. Quick and friendly service. Lots of water and tea refills without having to ask. Parking is a breeze. Great addition to NoPo.

I've been going to Mio for 6 years now, starting with the one in NW, and now I live near the one in NoPo. I've been such a huge fan, and the last few times I've gone, I've been so disappointed... It seems their rolls have gone up in price and down in size, and I agree that many taste the same. I LOVE the Double Crunch Roll (basically a Japanese chimichanga) and their spicy tuna is good, but many of the rolls have the crab/mayo blend, which makes them all taste the same. I almost always order the sushi, but last time ordered the yakisoba. It was honestly terrible. It tasted like something I would try to make at home. I've had good experiences with the salmon teriyaki, but my daughter ordered chicken teriyaki that tasted like it sat on the grill for 30 min, it was soooo dry. I will still keep going to Mio, it still has a place in my heart, but I hope they can get their food back on track... I know they are expanding to Seattle and Eugene... Stay focused on good food, Mio!
