had lunch at this location today-1st time after numerous visit to the pearl location. great spot if the sun is out. I had the Lovejoy salad and oh my, it was fantastic; truly a meal you don't want to miss. that salad and new location kicked it into the 4 star ranking otherwise a 3 star

Super amazing coffee, food is okay (I got a sandwich with lemon slices in it, peel included) but the people working just seem like they would rather be anywhere else. Not very comfortable space either

I was happy to see this little bakery cafe open. Their selection of baked goods was great, so many delicious looking treats it was hard to decide what to get. Eventually I settled on the classic, a ficelle (like a small baguette) and some butter with a small chai tea latte. The sandwich menu had many options and I loved the inclusion of the classically french sandwiches up front, a ham & butter and a cheese only on half a baguette. The seating is bit weird, the tables and stools are really low down (the stools are also kinda ugly in my opinion) but the higher up bar counter looking out onto the street is nice. My bread was perfect, great chewy/crispy crust and fluffy inside. My companion got a wedding cookie that was loaded with whole hazelnuts and was absolutely delicious. I'm looking forward to returning.

Decent food but incredibly rude owner/manager. My wife & I ordered two coffees and food, logged on to the internet, and...only 30 minutes later the owner/manager gets in my face to say, "I'm sorry, but you'll have to move. I don't want to have to turn off the wifi here." He walked off, but I motioned him over to point out that we had ordered food & drink, hadn't been there very long, and that there were at least 4 unoccupied tables inside, plus half the outside tables (10 feet away) were unoccupied, but he didn't seem interested, except to suggest that we should move to a bar stool (more than half of which were unoccupied).

Slowest service in the industry. Line not moving on a quiet mid-morning day. Gave up and left before getting anything.

Finally, a great food and coffee option in the neighborhood. The space is gorgeous, and I really like how the outside seating is like being on a ship's deck. It was really relaxing hanging out there for brunch on the weekend. There is a lot of visual drama with the aerial tram going by, the barge building across the way, and people watching. What a great spot!

I've been here at least 7 times since the place opened last month and I'm always satisfied with the food, but I only go because it's so close to my apartment. I would never go out of my way to come here. First off, the prices are high for such small portions, and I get the feeling this is one of those places that throws around the word "gourmet" all the time as a way to trick people into forking over an extra $3 per sandwich. Every sandwich I've tried has been good, but I can always think of better versions of that particular sandwich I could get cheaper elsewhere (I.E. the grilled cheese sandwich is fine, but I can get a much better one at The Grilled Cheese Grill.) I've yet to try a sandwich here that made me think, "Wow, Lovejoy has the best possible version of this sandwich! I can't get a better sandwich than this anywhere else." In case you were wondering, I try out a different sandwich each time I go, so I've tried 7 of their sandwiches so far. A big problem I have with the sandwiches (other than that they seem rather small compared to other places) is the bread. Most of the sandwiches come on this really hard, almost impenetrable bread. There are a few exceptions of course (the grilled cheese, the pulled pork), but if you order a sandwich, chances are it's coming on the "so hard you can use it to knock out a prison guard" bread. My mom has really delicate teeth (so much so that she usually eats hamburgers with a knife and fork because she has trouble biting through buns) and I'm afraid eating a sandwich from here would shatter every tooth in her mouth. All sandwiches come with the same side, but I have no idea what it's called. It's not listed anywhere on the menu and I never thought to ask. I don't even know how to describe it. It's...something. I'm sure most of you are laughing at my ignorance right now, but the first time I ordered from here, I actually thought it was some sort of a sandwich spread. Actually, maybe it IS a sandwich spread? Who knows? Whatever it is, I like it, but I just wish there were more options, like maybe an apple or chips instead. My biggest complaint is that it's usually really hot in here. I can understand why they've chosen to open the doors in lieu of air conditioning (they need the extra space the balcony seating provides), but sometimes I'll come here and there will be flies, gnats, and various other insects flying around the baked goods section. As much as I love cookies, the sight of flies hovering around said cookie is enough to completely take my appetite away. I've noticed the same thing in other bakeries around Portland and when I've asked those bakeries why they don't use air conditioning, their response is usually, "Well, Portland doesn't typically use air conditioning." That's not a valid reason. Just because other places don't use air conditioning doesn't mean you shouldn't. I know a lot of Portlanders are outdoors, nature-loving types who probably don't care about bugs on their food, but after seeing the movie The Fly and living with the knowledge that flies vomit on their food before they eat it, I never want to see a fly anywhere near my food ever again. Overall, I do like coming here. I enjoy the food, the establishment is a nice-looking, clean environment, and it's located in an area that desperately needs more restaurants. As I've outlined in my review, there are a few things it could improve upon, but I consider it a nice addition to the South Waterfront area.

Welcome to South Waterfront Lovejoy! So happy you are now part of the neighborhood. Fantastic egg salad tartine and that grab and go cheese and jam sandwich. I am hooked!
(4)Kristi C.
Griilled cheese. Fontina and white cheddar, a nicely grilled country white bread. Served with a side of potato salad = a very satisfying lunch.
(3)C. D.
The coffee is good. The location is a mixed bag due to construction-- noise and obstructed views. Will update with next visit based on food. Don't forget to sign up for emails/texts - you get a 5 dollar coupon!

Yes, please, and thank you. Get the Banh Mi pork belly sandwich. If I have this once a week for the rest of my life, I will consider it a success. Perfect blend of perfect bakery bread, light yet yeasty, pork belly with perfect amount of fat, and perfect spices to fulfill your senses yet not over-the-top. We walk down to Willamette Yacht Club, pick up this sandwich, to go, and have a wonderful evening. One area to improve: For God's Sake, offer diet pepsi, Lovejoy Bakery. You have alcohol, stop acting like diet pepsi is the death beverage. Stop judging us.

I wasn't crazy about the mocha I ordered. There was a taste in there that wasn't exactly coffee or chocolate. Maybe it was the flavored syrup that was way off? Also, the bread loaves and sandwich sizes shown in the photos do not accurately convey their sizes in reality. I'm being generous with the three stars because I'm betting this place could do better, especially with The Daily Cafe just a block away.

Service here could use some improvement. Stopped in for a breakfast sandwich and latte, and provided my own (18 oz) travel mug. They made my latte in one of their cups. No biggie - when the guy went to remake it, I told him that won't be necessary, and he can just pour the one he made into my travel mug. Soooo he does... But makes a huge mess, doesn't wipe it up, and the latte barely filled more than half of my mug. Definitely wasn't the 16 oz I paid for... If you made a mistake and I'm saving you the cost, time, and trouble of remaking my drink, at least make sure you give me what I paid for, and clean up your mess. Nobody wants coffee dripping all over the place! Sandwich was fine, but I'm not in any hurry to return.

The staff is super friendly, and the food delicious. They have one vegan sandwich- smoked garbanzo beans with lemon hummus and spring mix of fresh baked bread. They subbed out a side salad for me, and helped me pick out a vegan roll (fig & hazelnut). The only struggle is that there are 3 parking spots available for 15 min at a time.
(4)Drew V.
I live upstairs, so I frequent this place and they do no disappoint. Coffee is excellent and their bread is great. I especially love the egg & lox sandwich on Challah bread...perfect
(5)Jeremy B.
Completely unfamiliar with how a restaurant works. I should have gone to Fred Meyer and made my own food.
(1)Chris B.
I think this may be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had and my friend had the oatmeal which looked incredible and he said it's the best oatmeal he's ever had. Def be back.
(5)Fauna E.
A pleasant enjoyable mocha eggs and bacon. If you need to spend time at OHSU get yourself a snack. Friendly helpful staff. Every patron was satisfied. The breads and plates looked amazing. Thank you LOVE JOY BAKERY! I will bring my daughter back for lunch soon.
(5)Deanna N.
Very grateful for this outpost on the river front as there are very little choices by my work. It is expensive and albeit small inside, but healthy food options like salads and soups. I had a grown up grilled cheese and cup of tomato and it came with a nice little potato salad. Expect to pay about $12 for lunch. Parking is limited and needs to paid for.
(4)Jody J.
Been here many times since it opened. Parking is minimal, prices are high for the portion size but the bakery goods are delicious.
(3)Denea Y.
Don't get me wrong. I love the decor, vibe and beautiful food. But flavor wise it doesn't knock it out of the park for me. Everything tastes fresh and high quality, and would be a great place to take out of towners with the added bonus of them getting to try Stumptown coffee here. It's certainly the best option at the waterfront but nothing is go out of my way to get.
(3)Andrew R.
This place is ok. I live in the apartment directly above this location so of course I'll pop in now and then because it's convenient. Staff has always been pretty nice, menu offers a good range of options, and can be pretty tasty (although sometimes the bread can be really tough to bite through). One issue I had was that once I came in and noticed flies were all over the pastries, which they keep out in the open - sorta gross. Parking is definitely an issue, because the apartment and all of the retail only have about 5-6 available spots to share, so be prepared for that. These spots are meant to be temporary parking, but from what I've seen, everyone disregards that rule.

I stopped in to grab some breakfast to go, and the cafe is a pretty little sight. Service was okay, they didn't seem very personable. I ordered a 16 oz caramel latte and the Lovejoy Deluxe sandwich. I haven't had coffee in a while and I thought the cup looked a little small, only to realize when I got home that the cup says 12oz on the bottom. And the sandwich sounded good but the flavor is just not for me, I can't even finish it.
(2)Ostrom A.
Horrible, awful service. Food is good but the wait and the unprofessional staff isn't worth the headache and frustration.
(1)Molly A.
I had an awesome experience here. I wanted to try something new and the person who waited on me was so helpful and nice to explain what I might like about the different espresso drinks. When she told me she was new at this location I couldn't believe it - she was so professional and knowledgeable. I will definitely be back for the friendly service and my new favorite espresso drink. Thank you!

Must-try: just look at the food, close your eyes, wave your finger around, and whatever it lands on - eat that. It'll be good. Would return?: I sure would! If it were on my commute, goodness golly I would stop by each morning! My girlfriend surprised me with a stop at Lovejoy Bakers on our way to the Rose Garden, and it was the perfect way to start the day. We grabbed our baked goodies, headed up the hill, and enjoyed the beautiful day with delicious food and Stumptown stubbies.
(4)Charlotte F.
These guys make great sandwiches. Also, try the tomato soup. It is sooo friggin' good, especially with a grilled cheese. :) They also have coffee and chai teas. This is a great place for a nice lunch.
(4)Drew O.
What a great addition to south waterfront. The options for residents down here for a morning coffee has been rilassi and CHH offerings (stumptown and the daily cafe). The former serves atrocious coffee in an unsightly, though spacious, space at hours opening too late and closing too early to make a difference, and the CHH offerings are only available on weekdays. Lovejoy on the other hand has convenient hours, great food, tasteful music, and a welcoming space. Really cheerful, friendly employees. Has brightened up that corner of our neighborhood nicely! Keep up the great work. Vegetarian friendly as well. Try the pork BBQ sandwich...a winner for us omnivores.
(5)Jeff B.
First time at this location. Nice space fair amount of seating. Coffee was good. The bran muffin had good flavor but was slightly dry... Because the location is convenient I'm sure I'll return but, i'll try another pastry next time.
(3)Jim C.
Typical Portland hipster attitude. Terrible service. Once again "too cool for school" attitude. Learn how to greet customers, say hello, "how can I help you". If you're too cool for your job go work somewhere else. Great coffee, okay food, horrible service.

What a welcome addition to the neighborhood! Good food, good drinks and friendly staff. I would give them 5 stars, but the space itself is not friendly towards wheelchairs and strollers. The tables are packed so close together in the main seating area, that there's no way to get a stroller or wheelchair in there. Although there is one small area in the back by the restroom that could accommodate them, but odds are, there's individuals camped out with their laptops there, since it's secluded and has the comfy booth seating. It'd be nice if the three tables in the back area were reserved or given priority to people in wheelchairs or with strollers. Kind of like public transit seating near the doors-anyone can use them, but be willing to let others use it who would have trouble going elsewhere. I'd be more likely to go there if there was room for me with my stroller. (But then again, maybe this is a tactic to keep kids and babies out of the place? Possibly, but probably more of an oversight. I hope.). And people in wheelchairs would be more likely to go as well. Sadly, I know of at least one instance where Lovejoy Bakers was not chosen as a lunch place because an individual in the group was in a wheelchair. In the meantime, if you do have either a stroller or wheelchair, plan to go on a nice day, where you'll be more likely to find seating outside with room to accommodate you and your wheels. And if you happen to snag one of the tables in back with room for you, consider yourself lucky!

Great neighborhood addition to the Soith Waterfront. Conveniently located to the streetcar and OHSU. I have sampled their baked goods and coffee. Both tasty. When I was there today the breakfast special was French toast with blackberry compote and whipped cream. Looked delicious. They also serve lunch.
(4)Paul D.
Classic, fantastic Portland bakery/coffee shop. Great setting at the base of the tram and near the new Tillikum Crossing. Sandwiches made to order and delicious treats. Nice staff too. If only they'd open a branch in Wilsonville!
(5)Brendan T.
Love the pulled pork and tuna tartine here! Coffee also great. Service is sometimes aloof. In the winter cramped seating!
(4)Haroun K.
This lovely little bakery almost makes you forget about the architectural monstrosity that is the Emery building. The pastries are nicely done, and considering how everything is priced on the South Waterfront, it isn't expensive. Service is pretty excellent, and there is great outdoor patio seating. It does seem they may be a bit persnickety about wifi over-usage by customers, but then again, it isn't a customer's right to make a pop-up office anywhere s/he chooses. All in all, I think it's a very good addition to the South Waterfront, and actually helps make this sort of artificial outpost of Portland into a bona fide neighborhood.
(4)Vanessa M.
I grabbed a quick breakfast sandwich here before heading to a friend's to watch a sunday football game. It was soooo tasty that i wanted to leave the party and grab another one for lunch!
(4)Tyler B.
Tasty Stumptown coffee and croissants at a great location for those living in the area. Nice outdoor seating. The only cons are that it's a bit pricey for a sandwich and there is very limited parking for those who don't live within walking distance.
(3)Tiffany M.
This location is a lot less crowded on the weekends than the Pearl location, the clientele a little more down to earth, and the breakfast sandwich on Ciabatta bread is just as good. Definitely more out of the way, though, unless you happen to work at or be visiting Ohsu and the display case seems to be lacking some of the tempting options you find at the Pearl location.
(4)Nichelle S.
They close before 6pm on Sundays. I'm here right now, it's 5:37pm and the sign says closed
(1)Josh M.
The space looks great with nice outdoor seating. The pastries are just as good as the pearl location and the service might even be a little friendlier. Would have given 5 stars but they don't yet have the seasonal beer that they advertise.
(4)Jay S.
they seem overburdened with all the people coming through. Kind of small and cramped and being like the only one of two cafe in the southwater front at this moment, I can understand that. Like everywhere else, their staff is friendly to the norm of pdx. 4 stars. I hope they do well before the starbucks open in clsb.
(1)Linda B.
Love the coffee, pastry, and atmosphere. So glad you are here in the South Waterfront. Welcome!
(5)J B.
Meh. South Waterfront needed something new and I totally thought that this was it. They really need to have a mixture of both casual and grab and go and most clientele in the area (Ohsu types) are in a hurry. Additionally, there is a girl with shirt hair that works the front that looks likes she hates her life and wants to make sure never to smile or act with any sense of urgency. That's annoying. As someone who works at SoWa and is often asked "what's good to eat here?" It's hard to recommended a place that has average food at high prices, but more importantly uninterested staff that will soon realize that their reputation will keep their tip jar empty.
