Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I've long been a fan of Laughing Planet's healthy, yummy burritos themed after South American revolutionaries and such. My boys have always loved them for the dinosaurs. I won't go so far as to say Laughing Planet makes the best burrito in town (their salsa is good but there are better:), but the service here is by all accounts the friendliest. My boys are picky, and I'm used to telling them no, I will not order you a whole new dish because you won't eat the tomatoes. But one of the staff here heard my middle son, who has Aspergers, refuse the tomatoes very matter-of-factly and she went above and beyond to accommodate him. She was amazing and this is now my favorite place to hang out on the patio trying to convince my children to act at least half civilized while I, for one, eat my vegetables.

Great for when you're feeling like a healthy lunch. You order and then get a number. It does taste like diet food but totally hits the spot when you are on a diet. I wouldn't recommend going if you're just looking for good grub. My favorite is the Bollywood bowl. Delicious fusion, mild Indian food taste. Their kombucha was kinda bland and flat, which might be intentional. They do serve beer though, but that defeats the purpose of why I'm there.
(3)Melanie T.
Only great things to say about my experience here :-) All if my questions were answered and with such patience! I ordered the Bubba Burrito. It was so delicious and I'll get it next time. ...Chipotles BBQ sauce mmmm Good with chicken, beans, cheese, Brown rice, and tomatoes $6.95 Quick service 5 minutes

Superb food, great stewards as far as social consciousness. We were staying nearby and got take-out. A really good smoothie, okay chips, a delicious Zappatista Salad, some amazing African peanut soup, a Cuban Bowl (how can you go wrong with sweet potatoes, plantains, and black beans?), and a Soylent Green bowl (sautéed kale and steamed broccoli on a bed of quinoa topped with house-marinated tempeh and chimichurri sauce). Plus plastic dinosaurs, washed twice daily!
(5)Dave D.
This place is Portland in a nutshell. Social consciousness overloaded. Lots of flavors. Not too much meat. In a bowl. With a beer on the side. The flavors are diverse. Lots of asian-fusion concoctions that are tasty. I recommend trying a featured special, which might just surprise you into picking up a flavor you wouldn't have tried before. Take your food over to the park across the street and enjoy!
(4)Bree B.
The food was fresh, came out at a great temperature... We had chips and guacamole with an excellent salsa (made with ginger!).. my kale and Greek yogurt salad was okay, didn't have any substantial taste.. The quesadilla with pick hit the spot, My fruit tea was perfection.. He atmosphere outside was great, casual relaxing bench seating
(4)Devin M.
This is very awesome and dope! I would totally come here with my friends every time we are together in the Portland Oregon area.
(4)Mj M.
Every time I come here I get great service, most of the food I have is equally as good. Some of the burritos are pretty basic. Today I have the taco sampler, I highly recommend the pork ones, they are on point!
(4)Nate M.
We had a great family lunch here. All the options are super flavorful. The only negative is that they are so popular and fresh that it can take a bit of time to get lunch done.
(5)Zach F.
Really disappointing. I saw the board advertising the weekly dish, a Lebanese concoction that sounded flavorful and well spiced. I ordered it with the lamb shoulder. Even though it was a little pricey for lunch, I figured it would be worth it and was very excited. After waiting over twenty minutes, even with an empty dining room, what I received was bland and completely underwhelming. Not only was the portion tiny, but there was no flavor at all. Even the lamb which in traditional Lebanese cuisine is the most flavorful part of a dish was bland and mushy. I typically patronize the Hot Lips Pizza across the hall but today I decided to change it up because I saw the Lebanese option and I am a big fan of that style of cuisine. I should have just stuck to pizza, and I probably will from now on.
(2)Monica S.
The bowls and chili are darned good but the cooks need to go back to burrito school. My green chile burrito fell apart about 1/3 of the way down so I had to eat the rest of it with a fork.
(4)Taylor M.
Staff is always friendly. Though, I was pretty disappointed by my lunch I got there today. This is the second time I've ordered a quesadilla from here. Both times there are little to no cheese and mostly whatever comes on it. My Popeye quesadilla was basically a spinachadilla. And my grilled vegi quesadilla had weird vegetables on it that I've never seen on one before, and almost all vegi's and a tiny amount of cheese. The one thing I've gotten from here that I liked was the Thai bowl. Other then that, I don't think I'll ever order a quesadilla again. Too expensive to be disappointed.
(3)Kent W.
We try to eat here when downtown. Really healthy fresh nutritious food with lotsa flavor. We each had the che bowl with customized toppings which they can do since they prep everything as ordered.
(5)Dave M.
We live just two blocks from the Laughing Planet in the Ecotrust building, and we eat lunch or dinner there at least once a week. High quality and delicious food in unique combinations of ingredients. I love this place.
(5)Jennifer C.
Never having been to this chain I didn't know what to expect (walked in off the street). I wanted a healthy meal and a pint, which was exactly what I got. I ordered the Indian-style special (can't remember - vindaloo? ) with pork. It was spicy and delicious, just the right size. The IPA was a great accompaniment and the outdoor patio seating allowed for great people-watching.
(4)Dara H.
I love this place! I have been to the locations in Eugene many times but this was my first experience at this spot. It was clean and I received quick and friendly service. I got the Bollywood Bowl this time but I have ordered other burritos and bowls and have never been disappointed. When I'm trying to eat extra healthy I will swap out the rice for steamed kale which is a nice (and also yummy) option. All and all I'm always happy with what I get at Laughing Planet :)
(5)Jason C.
I went here before Veggie Grill. I had their Kombucha which was on tap and the Winter Bowl with Tempeh. Both were really good. The Kombucha had a unique but good taste. The winter bowl had Brussel sprouts, yams, and a bbq sauce that paired nicely. The establishment was clean and the service was good.
(4)Haleh N.
It was o.k. Not the best burritos I have had. My kids had pizza across the way at HOT lips and their food was much better

I love laughing planet, as my review of the satellite location on SW Jefferson will inform you. They have simple delicious food at pretty decent prices and they post all of their nutritional information on their website, which is fantastic if your planning your eating for the day. There are some pros and cons to this location as opposed to the SW Jefferson location. I know the one on Jefferson is a "satellite" which means it's kind of a dumbed down simpler version, but I actually prefer it for a few reasons. The staff at the Jefferson location almost always asks if you want salsa, which this one does not. They also actually have a grilled chicken bowl on the menu. When I order a grilled chicken burrito as a bowl at this larger location it never has lettuce... Kind of annoying but not huge. This location has my favorite cookie, the oatmeal chocolate chip. This cookie may be the best cookie in all of Portland and I literally cannot resist it. The satellite does not have this... Which might be a good thing because it keeps me from eating hundreds more of these a week. This location also has self serve cups and water which is one of the annoyances of the satellite location on Jefferson, you always have to ask for water and that makes it bothersome to drink more than one cup. Other than these minor differences I haven't noticed a huge gap between the two locations. Both have friendly servers and both have awesome food in a neat and comfortable environment. I often come to this particular location in leu of a coffee shop when I'm in the area and don't need to be more caffeinated but would like to doodle in a public setting.

Hair in my burrito! I was almost finished with my giant burrito when I found a long blonde hair in it. Even if I didn't find a hair in my food I wouldn't go back because it was over priced for bland food!
(1)Lindsey J.
Terrible service. Stood there for 7 minutes waiting to order. Wasn't acknowledged once. I was the the only person in line...there were 3 people working. Finally got so frustrated that I left without ordering. Someone should always be working the cash register or you will loose business like mine. 0 stars!
(1)Tree H.
Yes! Friendly, funky staff who prepare fast, delicious and healthy food. Tonnes of vegetarian and vegan options. Went there this month and also last October. The city has many amazing vegetarian options (this is, I hope, the City of the Future). A number of those options aren't the easiest for dining with kiddos or necessarily the cheapest (this will change in The Future...?) But this is a great, easy option for all ages, lunch or dinner. Great job, team Planet.
(5)Jeremy L.
One of my favorite places to grab lunch in the Pearl, especially if I'm in the mood for something healthier than your average options. Their bowls are pricey, but damn good. Fresh veggies and meat or tofu. They also tend to have a few decent beers on tap, too.
(4)Heather C.
Gotta love having vegan options! I never have a problem finding a place to sit here, waiting to order my food or receiving my food in a timely manner. The people that work here are very friendly and don't judge you when you ask them to sub for Daiya cheese. Their bowls, salads and burritos are all awesome and tasty. You may not be able to finish your food but there are to-go containers available. I ordered the Southwestern Green Chile burrito, sub Daiya, with Red Chipotle salsa. Yummm! My brother ordered the Spanky's Bowl - mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, corn and broccoli. It looked pretty tasty. When the weather is nice, they open up their patio doors. On the patio there are 3 or 4 picnic tables. Those were full when we came here... next time we'll sit out there!

I really enjoy laughing planet for quick, fresh, and affordable food. We frequent most of their locations. A few visits ago we had an issue with a to go order, where several things were forgot and not noticed until we got home. After we mentioned it, they reached out and made it right, which is very admirable for any business these days. I am happy to say we have been back 3 times since and everything was perfect. Great business, good fresh food.
(4)Essie K.
Laughing Planet burrito bowls are my new favorite thing to get when I'm downtown. They range from $6-$10 and are healthy AND filling. Everything is loaded w/ veggies!! There are also plenty of gluten free options that are clearly labeled on the menu. I was disappointed with their chips - they are GMO free corn tortilla but they were cold and bland :(
(4)Tiffany M.
Came here with my love for a quick, cheap meal around Jameson square. They have a lot of great options on the menu for veg-lovers and meat-heads alike. You have your choice of soups, salads, smoothies, rice bowls, burritos, quesadillas, etc. It's a very casual atmosphere, you order up at the counter, take your number and they bring the food out in a reasonable amount of time. I like that they had beer on tap as well as a self-serve water station. I didn't love that this seems like a popular spot for families, but I understand why it is a go-to place for the kid-toting crowd. I ordered the cilantro pesto veggie quesadilla and it was delish, especially with the side of fresh guac (which had pico mixed, the only kind that matters IMO). My guy got the chicken/pico quesadilla and he liked it. With two quesadillas, a side of guac and sour cream, and a beer it only set us back $17. Not bad at all. With many locations around Portland, this is a great option for a quick, cheap, and relatively healthy food fix. Can't wait to try a bowl and salad!

We've been visiting for our third summer in Portland. Laughing Planet has been a fun and reliable place to get healthy food and fresh juice. This year they just didn't measure up to our expectations. The juice is watery and expensive, and the service was poor. We may check in with them next summer, but if they don't improve, we may not be able to give them another chance.
(2)Ana R.
I'm not a great fan of burritos or beans, but I love their Zapatista salad with the lime-avocado dressing. It's a great way of eating beans for me and it's very fulfilling. Their house-made juices are delish!
(5)Robert H.
What's great about Laughing Planet is that it reminds me that a balanced healthy diet is a good thing! Sometimes good for you food does not taste so good. I wouldn't say that Laughing Planet food tastes insanely good but it does taste good. I have had insanely good food at a vegan restaurant on Maui and I have an insanely good professional raw chef friend, now in LA. So there is room for improvement in flavor and improvement is possible. But the ingredients are of good quality and not cooked to a pulp. The price-portion is not gut bomb cheap, but quite reasonable given the ingredient prep work. This location has a line out the door lunchtimes. Not a problem, because the people in the line are probably interesting people, and I ran into friends in line when I stopped in. It's amazing to see the execution of the staff and kitchen, it's an athletic organic machine! I had the Marrakesh Bowl with chicken. The sauce is as characterized above. They don't add a lot of salt or sweetening, that's up to you. Solid good customer service. This location has a display of plastic figures from the Missing Link and I did see a few trademark dino's around too. Hope since they were just bought they stay on track.
(4)James T.
Food is a little overpriced and a bit bland but nothing some hot sauce can't fix. I will never believe in the bussing your own table scheme if you put out a tip jar. If I tip 15-20% every time should I have to bus my own table?
(3)Nick J.
Really love the California-style cuisine. I got the Bollywood bowl and loved it. Good mix of veggies and protein, and the sauce was great.
(4)Linda S.
This was a wonderful place to have lunch. The gluten free and vegan items were clearly mzrked. We had the than and Korean beef bowls.; both were delicious and healthy. I would go back here again. Loved this place.
(5)Andrew H.
I eat here anywhere from 80-100% of the week. I keep waiting for the day when I'll be sick of this place but it never seems to happen. Why I love laughing planet: - nice, happy employees - organic/sustainable/free-range/etc ingredients at fast-food prices! - The VEGGIE BURRITO: I get this same thing almost every time, and I'm not even a vegetarian, probably 25% of my yearly diet consists of these "portable nutrition devices" (PND) - The habanero salsa is tasty and ACTUALLY HOT. I can't say this for most sauces in Portland, this town has a wussy palate for hot thangs it seems like My only complaint about this place is the frequent use of R. Crumb comics, I don't find them funny or interesting and I'm not a fan of his art style. The pictures of Frank Zappa are enough to counter-balance them though...mostly. I agree with what some say in that these are more "wraps" than "burritos", but that's why I like them, not the same old boring burrito ingredients.
(5)Joe M.
Oh have such a love-hate relationship with this place... mostly love though. I'm a healthy eater which for me means lean protein, wholeish grains, legumes, and lots of vegetables - broccoli, cauliflower, kale, carrots, asparagus, mushrooms, etc... not just a garnish of onions and celery. It this regard Laughing Planet has a lot of options. With myriad sauces and ethnic leanings you can assemble a bowl of your taste with a variety of vegetables, beans/grains, chicken (they recently added grass-fed beef), and your choice of fresh garnishes and salsas. I eat here at least 3 times a week, and its right on the edge of reasonably priced (but be careful if you stat substituting sauces and ingredients it can really add up - one of my grievances), the service is friendly and prompt, and the ambience is fine, although I often get mine to go. Sometimes the dishes can be a bit bland as there is no seasoning on the chicken, beans, or vegetables - they rely entirely on the sauces to impart flavors, but I think this stems from the fact that to turn out freshly cooked vegetables, beans, brown rice, and chicken as the foundation to so many dishes, and do it quickly, you need a neutral base ton build on, so I cut them some slack because these items are annoyingly difficult to come by in a fast-food setting i.e., without going to a sit-down restaurant requiring more time and cash. I also think the staff is fantastic, which goes a long way with me. I'll continue to go there frequently, and continue to complain about the substitution charges I'm sure, but at the end of the day I would starve without this place, or god forbid have to prepare my own lunch.

Perfect hit-the-spot lunch! Had the pulled pork burrito, whose guac, beans, and sauce were all perfectly matched. Service was friendly and hip w/o being condescending or flip, and the music made for a nice atmosphere. Adjoining free parking was a welcome respite from cruising Portland's maze of streets looking for a spot, and I think I've found mine here. Looking forward to checking out the view roof sometime.
(5)Brian J.
I dunno, this place is not for me. Quirky, local place with a pretty good sized menu, but the food, while "healthy" was pretty "meh", the service slow, and the prices high. No thanks.
(2)Sara M.
Visited the Nob Hill, Portland location of Laughing Planet while visiting this week. After driving from Vancouver (BC), I needed something healthful, colourful and delicious. I am seriously glad I found Laughing Planet Cafe -- ON YELP-- just a few blocks away from my fantastic hotel (see Inn at Northrup Station review). This place was fantastic. The menu was full or organic, locally sourced produce, and the menu was both interesting and enticing. I had a Marakesh bowl, full of veggies, chickpeas, spinach and a spicy sauce. My partner had an organic chicken quesidilla with Tilamook cheese. Both were a great size and delicious in every way. The restaurant itself was kitchy and friendly with great memorabilia, a clear passion for recycling and sustainability and some fantastic social commentary. I really enjoyed my meal here and would definitely go back.
(4)Brenda A.
I had never heard of this chain before I ate here. It is apparently a fairly local and small chain of healthy foods. Healthy, at least, in comparison to most restaurants. My friend ordered the thai bowl, which he enjoyed, and had the chicken burrito. It was delicious. The order took a really long time, and considering how empty the place was, it was a bit ridiculous. I could see myself going back again though, since the burrito was so tasty, and wasn't a million calories.

After we mentioned it, they reached out and made it right, which is very admirable for any business these days. I am happy to say we have been back 3 times since and everything was perfect. Great business, good fresh food.

Laughing Planet burrito bowls are my new favorite thing to get when I'm downtown. They range from $6-$10 and are healthy AND filling. Everything is loaded w/ veggies!! There are also plenty of gluten free options that are clearly labeled on the menu. I was disappointed with their chips - they are GMO free corn tortilla but they were cold and bland :(
(4)Linda S.
This was a wonderful place to have lunch. The gluten free and vegan items were clearly mzrked. We had the than and Korean beef bowls.; both were delicious and healthy. I would go back here again. Loved this place.

(4)Andrew H.

No thanks.

We have yet to find an indoor restaurant that allows dogs, not even our 10 lb doxie! But the hallway in the EcoTrust building is the closest we can get. With dining space between Laughing Planet and Hotlips Pizza, this is the perfect spot to go on a cold and rainy day when you have to walk your dog AND eat. We frequently meet other dogs and it's a fun communal spot to come for a bite. As for the food, there is variety and they are flexible in adding and removing items to make the perfect meal. Ideal spot for eaters with diet constraints because there are vegan, gluten-free, paleo, and other options. Can't beat the prices for a fresh healthy meal in the Pearl!
(4)Elizabeth R.
Great go-to restaurant for the whole family. I always feel good when I leave which is a sign that the food was good for me.
(4)HeyLaura W.
So yummy! So easy for a dietarily restricted patron such as myself (no dairy, gluten, corn, soy). I got the Paleo Bowl with braised beef and it was wonderful. The chimichurri sauce is the best I have ever had, actually. The food here is basically what we eat at home, but sometimes you just want to have someone else make it for you. The line was long when we arrived, but we didn't wait for more than 20 minutes for our food (party of 6). Pretty impressive. The staff was kind and helpful. The gluten free (and dairy free) coconut almond macaroon was delicious.
(4)Abbey M.
I've only had their smoothies, because I'm never really hungry when I come here, for some reason. That being said: the Jungle Juice smoothie is the Bomb. I add protein powder and spirulina and it becomes this green, tropical drink that's one of my favorites. Plus, one of the guys who works there is a Billy Joel fan, so I, being the ultimate Billy Joel fan, have to give props.
(4)Kedar D.
This is a nice cafe with outdoor seating and a good selection of vegan baked goods and loose-leaf teas. I had a pot of tea and a couple of their baked goods (I think I had a cookie, a brownie and something with coconut). All of the baked goods were tasty, moist and fresh. Can't ask for more than that. The food items otherwise looked kind of bland (veggie burritos and whatnot), but this place is amply vegan-friendly, which is always great, especially in the Pearl District.

What is the epitome of the Portland dining experience you ask? Laughing Planet Cafe I answer back quickly, and precisely. No, really though, this place really does a good job of summing up what it is like to eat at a restaurant in Portland. Upon arriving at Laughing Planet, I was first struck by how nicely arranged the restaurant is, from the hardwood floors, to the bright and warm atmosphere, to the numerous designer toys and cartoon posters spread throughout the restaurant. Even without seeing the menu, I knew I had made the right choice when it came to finding dinner that night. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that they had a number of local beers on tap, and treated myself to an RPM IPA, which was quite delicious. Of course, a great decor, and a good selection of booze, is only part of the equation when it comes to the Portland experience. The other part of course being, the ability to have such an establishment and still be green about it. Laughing Planet does this by utilizing recyclable materials for your dining experience, and also helps to promote their vision by offering up separate trash cans, which are clearly designated for landfill, compost, and recycling. Heck, there is even a separate container for the aluminum foil from your burrito! As far as the food goes, Laughing Planet definitely offers up some tasty eats, much of which is due to the high quality of the ingredients used, which you guessed it, are locally grown. In addition, the chicken used is free range, and is absolutely delicious as well. The only real complaint I have about the burrito I ordered is that there seemed to be an overwhelming amount of beans on it. However, this one infraction is quite trivial in the overall picture. I can see myself happily returning to Laughing Planet, again and again, in the future.
(4)Linda C.
We love this chain. Great selection of food to satisfy vegetarians and meat-eaters. Rotating seasonal specials with interesting food combos. Nice smoothies. Generally a nice, cool laid-back vibe with good nosh.
(4)Cynthia G.
Typical of Portland, this cafe's mission is to serve tasty, healthy food that has been minimally processed and sustainably produced. I had their featured burrito and it was pretty tasty. I'll definitely be back to check out their other offerings, which include: rice bowls, salads, soups, and quesadillas.
(4)Christa A.
I am a fan of the bowls and I appreciate all of the hot saucy condiments LP has to offer. I appreciate their mission of serving up healthy options at affordable prices and also trying to be good to the environment.
(4)Deanna H.
I'm fairly confident that I go to Laughing Planet very much more than the average human. It's gotten to the point where I don't even need to look at a menu anymore (but that doesn't mean I order the same thing every time) and I know which specials to look for (East Indian special as a bowl with tofu, please). Also, when I recently went gluten free I could go to Laughing Planet without batting an eye because SO MANY THINGS on the menu are gluten free--even most of the burritos if you get 'em as a bowl. My #1 favorite thing of all time on the menu is the Che Guevara burrito (as a bowl). How I often long for BBQ-sauce-slathered goodness named for a famed Cuban revolutionary figure... Long story short: I always feel good and just-full-enough after eating the fresh and yummy goodness that comes out of this place's kitchen. One thing that makes me angry though, is that customers always put glass pint glasses in the "glass" recycling tub. Really boils my blood.
(5)Michelle C.
My family and I tried Laughing Planet when they participated in a fundraiser for a local nonprofit, Store to Door, and I am so glad we did. They serve healthy but delicious food. We tried the kale and eastern salads and both were great, and Spanky's Bowl, which is mashed potatoes loaded with broccoli and corn. The staff was friendly and fast. Nice atmosphere, and there is a parking lot at this location in the Pearl. We will definitely be back!
(4)Jesse N.
I never find myself saying that I want to go to Laughing Planet. They put cafe on the sign, but I dont really know why. The menu is mostly mexican style dishes. I usually get a burrito, though they are pretty mediocre. I've tried other items, and feel the same way. The atmosphere is ok too. There are vinyl art toys, concert posters and some pop art on the walls. There is a dinosaur on every table. I guess its kind of a funky, hip atmosphere, but I feel like the menu should reflect this. The staff is nice, and the food comes out quick. They are conscious of the ingredients that they are using, which is nice, but I've eaten at plenty of health-conscious places that taste much better, and have a wider menu selection.
(3)Kamila L.
Whenever I need a quick fix, this is where I go to know that the quality will be equal to what I make at home, cause Im picky. The thoughtfully nutritious menu hits the spot every time! And the staff at NW 21st are awesome! Great business model. Keepin my stomach laughing!
(5)Heather N.
Enjoyed a chicken burrito with brown rice. Had chips and a tomatillo salsa. It was a nice treat, a little sweet and refreshing in the heat.
(4)Misty S.
Fast, Tasty, Healthy, Cheap... What more could I ask for? This Cafe offers a tasty healthy option for lunch. I've gone a few times but others at my office go at least once or twice a week. There are Vegetarian/Vegan options. I like those meals and I'm not a vegetarian/vegan. I usually just go with the chicken or special burrito because it's fast but they have so much more to choose from. Very Very good.
(4)Desiree D.
"Mommy, what does heaven taste like?," my pup asked me with curiosity in his eyes. "Well, I'll tell you, my little one. Heaven tastes like the Bean & Cheese burrito at Laughing Planet Cafe; vegan-fied with vegan cheese, sour cream, & guacamole. It's like little cherubs getting wild in your mouth!". "Mommy, I want cherubs in my mouth!," my furry son exclaimed. "Maybe when you're older or daddy takes us on vacay again." LPC, I want more delicious moments with you. Get in my belly!
(5)Jess P.
I had my doubts when I walked in yesterday. I wasn't really sure if I was in the mood for "that" kind of food, not really bothering to define that "that" category I assigned it to. I walked away so incredibly pleased. I had the Cuban bowl- black beans, brown rice, plantains, sweet potatoes, pico de gallo with both a tomatillo and habanero salsa. It was simply incredible. Fresh, clean flavors and healthy food for only a little over $5. I'll be coming back soon to try more off their menu. Laughing Planet, I'm sorry I ever doubted you
(4)Joe H.
Laughing Planet is...interesting... ATMOSPHERE: In the lovely little EcoTrust building. Patio seating, indoor seating, & hallway seating.....& dinosaurs to play with. :) Simple fast casual. Comfy. Chalkboard special menus, playful descriptions. Simple & Relaxed. FOOD: Probably some of the most mediocre food you can have. Nothing glaringly cooked wrong, awkward, etc...but just so bland & boring. Pseudo Mexican, Pseudo Caribbean, Pseudo Asian...none of it done well at all. It reminds me of if you went to Trader Joe's, walked over into the prepared foods section, & made a fast casual restaurant chain out of that. Very vegetarian & vegan friendly...so if that's your thing you'll have a lot of options here. Another plus is that the menu mix is pretty health conscious as well, but you shouldn't have to sacrifice that much flavor. SERVICE: Always friendly. You walk up, order, & they give you a number. CURVE: Eh. If you want a burrito, there are tons of better options. If you want Caribbean or Cuban-esque food, there are tons of better options. If you want Asian food, there are tons of better options. If you want all three options in one place without any of the goodness...Laughing Planet is your place.
(2)Miwako T.
Love the dinosaurs! This place is so close to the SWCC swimming pool so is a perfect after-swimming lunch stop. Yes, there're dinosaur toys on tables and nice collectibles toys (if I'm not dreaming, I even saw Ultraman and Gozilla there) on the wall. Food is yummy too!
(4)Angi T.
Excellent, healthy food! Kids loved playing with the dinosaurs while eating and my son and I loved the cheesy scifi vintage movie posters on the wall. Great beer and seriously amazing food!
(5)Megan Marie M.
I have eaten at laughing planet quite a few times out of convenience. I have never been impressed with the food and most visits I am dissatisfied. Especially with their burritos, the tortillas are really gummy and chewy and their beans have no flavor. It is almost as bad as Taco Del Mar, but much more pricey. That being said if you want to spend a few extra bucks on a healthy meal for you kids at an "Alternative" chain restaurant, this is a good choice. Kids and families seem to like it, the dinosaur toys, the outside seating (Belmont and Sellwood). I don't plan to go back.
(1)Christine H.
These folks have a good thing going... they have made me a regular for sure. The food is good, the service is quick and they always get my orders right. I am a fan of their specials... so far I think the greek burrito is my favorite... the salads, the bowls and the soups are great too...they are just so darn crafty wrappin all that goodness in a tortilla and being located right next door... they are going to probably get my lunch money most days ;)
(4)Jessica D.
I never leave a laughing planet cafe unsatisfied!
(5)Robert V.
The laughing planet cafe is very good! I had the holy mole burrito and it was very good! the chicken in the burrito was very tender and juicy! I will be going back soon!!
(5)Kristina K.
Quick, healthy bite. Hard words to live by in a fast food nation. We went to Laughing Planet Cafe last night for their chicken burrito and burrito du jour, Greek burrito with feta, olives, spinach, brown rice and tomatoes. The burrito was not bigger than the size of my head, nor were they like a lead brick in my stomach. The burritos were just the right size. They have a lot of vegetarian choices, and it seemed like chicken is the only type of meat they offer (boo, no carnitas). Everything seems fresh and (nearly) local. The woman behind the counter informed us that everything is baked or steamed. [Pat self on back] We made good dining decisions; though, on my walk to Laughing Planet, I was explaining to my husband how badly I wanted a Chicago Hog Dog and how much I missed Wolfy's on Peterson Avenue. We shared a berry banana smoothie. I make better smoothies, but I can't make a burrito as quick as Laughing Planet.
(4)Ashley G.
If you've been to one Laughing Planet, you've been to them all! Just kidding... sort of :) Laughing Planet is the best kind of chain restaurant. The food is consistently good (but rarely GREAT). The quality and taste is reliable. It's nice to have a convenient option in the heart of the Pearl District right in the Ecotrust building. I don't get to this location very often, but it's a decent one.
(4)Stephanie W.
I had the Thai Bowl. Very tasty. Seemed very healthy. Glad I went and will definitely go again.
(5)Marissa R.
Nom - Laughing Planet was a really great experience. The employees were the best. The guy who took our order was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. My husband very much loved the bean & cheese burrito. I had the Marrakesh bowl. I would love to visit again and try other menu items.
(4)Will W.
My wife had the nachos and I had a burrito with green chilles, both were delicious. We also had two small house salads that were perfect. My favorite was the habanero salsa, which was spicy and not a face melter. Enjoying our food on the outside patio of a Portland summer night was the best. The food is not a traditional Mexican style. It's closer to the flavor of a Baja Fresh, and slightly Tex-mex.
(4)Michelle B.
This restaurant was bigger than expected and had a quirky motif. The menu consists of burritos, quesadillas, bowls and salads with a fun twist of different veggies and sauces. The menu in the restaurant and online very clearly marks items which are vegan, gluten free or paleo for those looking for that. We had the Bollywood Bowl and Paleo and both of us would get them again. It seems like good, healthy food for an appropriate price. We will definitely be back.
(4)Arun R.
Healthy food. Liked the bollywood bowl and the option to subsitude tempeh
(3)Esther R.
I visited Portland about 2 weeks ago for the Net Impact conference. A friend recommended that I stop by here. I'm so glad I did! It was a little hard to find the restaurant - it's inside the Ecotrust Building (which the cab driver didn't know where that was, so I had to provide the exact address). On that particular Friday night, there was another party using the lobby as a party venue so I was confused that I was in the wrong place. But I kept walking and eventually found the Laughing Planet Cafe. Yay! I ordered the Bubba burrito in a bowl with black beans instead of pinto and also a strawberry lemonade. My meal was delicious! The Bubba burrito bowl was so tasty - you could tell it was made fresh and wasn't too heavy or overloaded with oil/cheese/fat. In some ways, it was a pretty basic bowl - chicken, brown rice, cheese, black beans, corn, pico de gallo and bbq sauce on the side - but it was well prepared and totally satisfying. This place was a cross between Chipotle and Aqui's (as a comparison to Bay Area restaurants). I love both those restaurants so I was a happy camper :) The strawberry lemonade was interesting - really tart yet sweet. It was different because it was more of a smoothie/slushie than the watery liquid lemonade that I was expecting. Still yummy and a nice balance to the meal. Prices are really affordable - the Bubba bowl was $6.50. (I don't recall the price for the lemonade though.) They accept MC and Visa, but not AmEx! If you're looking for a simple, no frills meal that's slightly healthy and totally satisfying, then this is your place. Open everyday from 11am-9pm. Lots of seating, clean, fun atmosphere and friendly service. Totally a fan now. Yay Portland! :)
(4)Shannon L.
Although there were already a few other locations spread about Portland, I'm happy now that there's a Laughing Planet a short streetcar ride away from downtown. Hadn't been to any other except the one in Eugene until this one, and though I didn't find the atmosphere to be quite as quirky and cozy as the one back home, the food was just as great and the staff was friendly. My absolute favorite place to go when I'm craving a burrito. But then again, I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. In all my times visiting this restaurant, myself and those I've gone with have never tried something we didn't like. Southwestern Green Chile Burrito is recommended. Happy eating! :)
(5)Carter C.
Exactly what I was looking for - reasonably priced healthy food. Veggie bowl wasn't the tastiest thing on the planet but it was perfect nonetheless - I don't want something covered in unidentified food objects. I would eat here at least once a week if it were closer to my office.
(5)Madeline B.
I'm from Los Angeles where you can get a great burrito anywhere. The laughing planet was just okay to me. Pretty bland over all and not at all authentic. My grilled veggie burrito was $8.00 which I think is EXPENSIVE for a burrito. I could get a more delicious burrito from Baja Fresh for $5.00.
(3)Rob V.
Great location, great food, good beer, friendly staff, decent prices.... Im a fan!
(4)Kristin K.
Awesome Mexican place with a Northwest vibe. Veggie quesadilla was excellent. Smoothies are great too. Service was pretty fast and the location inside the Ecotrust building is pretty fun.
(5)Eva J.
I'm sitting here writing this in my fat pajama pants because I just ate the special burrito from Laughing Planet. It was sweet potatoes, brown rice, spinach and tofu. There are still remains of the burrito left in my fridge but since I waited til 7 to eat today I ate more than I should've and so hungry hungry hippo I went. It was so delicious and and my belly looks like a balloon. Oh yeah but let me tell you about the Pearl location: clean...check dinosaurs...check cute girl employees...check adorable couples and babies...check tasty new specialty burrito...check check I have never ordered anything off the menu at. I always order a special burrito. I've never been disappointed. Well there is one thing, and that is that I will never completely remember what was in the burrito and therefore cannot remake it. Special burritos are like short love affairs that I stuff in my mouth and require a good washing after, but then I forget their names. The only reason I ended up here was because I was running errands and I was curious as to how it would compare to the one in my hood. Overall, I suppose if I lived in the hood it would be fine to stop in but I definitely would go to the one on Mississippi over this location any day.
(3)Oliver W.
Burritos are bland, service is slow and the staff seem too cool for school. I live almost right next door to this place, and even though it would be really convenient to eat here, i forgo it 100% of the time for just about anywhere else.
(2)Andrew S.
I like this place but it is a chain, so minus one star. Eco sensitive which is great. I love their Bubba burrito, I've ordered it like a zillion times. In a great restored building.
(4)Jenny G.
I've been to the one on NW 21st too and love Soylent Green. Funny name and totally yummy. If you haven't seen that classic movie with Charlton Heston (if I remember correctly) check it out. And if not at least check out this fantastic dish. Two choices for sauce also and both are fantastic.
(5)Melissa E.
You'll go into a food coma after eating here. It's very good. Quick service and mostly, GREAT PRICES! If your stomach is calling out for a burrito, this is the place to be.
(4)PollyManda A.
Had the cuban bowel and it was quite tasty. The plantains are a nice touch. But the serving size was too small for me - when i pay $5.50, i expect more quantity. Or , it should be cheaper for that amount.
(3)Robbie W.
Can't think of anything here I haven't liked. The Holy Mole is always a good bet and the habanero sauce is sweet spicy goodness.
(4)Jason S.
Laughing Planet is fabulous! This particular location is on my way home from work, and I probably stop there for dinner almost weekly. Their menu is wildly creative, and very healthy. They have amazing vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options as well as using local ingredients. They specialize in soups, salads, bowls and burritos, but also have lots of treats such as fresh squeezed juices and DELICIOUS TOTALLY ADDICTIVE COOKIES. Every single employee I've ever interacted with was totally friendly and accommodating. My favorite part is that they serve a great selection of local micro-brews, so I usually enjoy a pint while I wait for my food. The prices are great. A bowl or burrito usually runs you 6-7 bucks, and will definitely fill you up. The place is decorated with funny, and random art such as a collection of Frank Zappa photographs, and the counters are lined with a plethora of action figures. If all that isn't enough, they are always playing great music by artists like LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, Arcade Fire, etc. I am going to add Laughing Planet to my list of things I tell Portland visitors to experience.
(5)Shannon M.
This place is awesome. The bowls are good and healthy. I like the cuban bowl. The habanero hot sauce is insanely hot. I could not even eat it. I had a couple of bites of my bowl tonight when my husband let me have a bite of his elmer fudd and I told him it was my favorite. He asked me if I wanted to swap. I jumped on the proposition before I realized that he had eaten 3/4th of his burrito already. By the time I realized this he had already eaten 3/4th of the bowl. He doesn't masticate. So, I kind of got screwed. But, all that aside the best part was the sign in the bathroom that told the pigs to make sure they use a paper towel when touching the faucet and door handles. Thanks Laughing Planet. As a member of the Howard Hughes disability club, I really appreciate you educated the others on what my people have been doing for years. Kudos to your great food and clean environment. The only reason you do not get five stars is because you are too healthy and do not have enough unhealthy carbs for me to dole out five. Just like vegans and vegetarians are always giving 2 stars to burger joints because the veggie burger sucked, I cannot give five stars to a place with no transfat.
(4)Barrie R.
Can't beat a bean n cheese with guacamole and sour cream. Classic goodness.
(4)K T.
If you are looking for the Portland NW experience, this place certainly embodies the culture. I have been stopping in for over a year from time to time and their service and food have been consistently friendly and good. If you are looking for bulk processed food nuked in a microwave in the back kitchen, you should look elsewhere. The prices are a little higher than normal for their menu but thats if you are comparing it against most places that shirk you on ingredients. I go their to enjoy the easy going atmosphere and the freshly cooked / baked goods. The beer on tap is a crap shoot but that's part of the fun. I'll pay a little extra for good food, good service, and consistency. Bad marks come in for restroom cleanliness, a measure that I use to gauge how well a place is managed. That is the only reason I rate this place with only 3 stars. My wife has been very pleased with the burrito on special and I always get the chicken quesadilla.
