Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I'm born and raised in Portland and this restaurant is top 3 Mexican restaurants in town. Food is authentic and service is great. Not to mention the drinks are strong and hit the spot. I highly recommend this spot if you want some good Mexican food.

This restaurant has been sold to a new owner. He seems like a nice person, so I hope he does well. The food is not as good as it used to be, it is okay, but a couple of years ago it was great. Service seems slower too.

Very yummy food especially after a long hike! My friend and i stopped here for lunch and were not disappointed. We both ordered the pollo fundido and i was surprised it was split up into three separate pieces on the plate. I liked how the rice and beans were in little taco shells. I don't live in Portland but i would recommend this place.

Been going here for years. Always clean environment. Food is always good and portions are typical Mexican tray size plates.

I love the food! But the service can take a while sometimes and it's a bit spendy. But totally worth it sometimes

I love this place. Probably one of my favs! Food is always super fresh and delicious! Very gracious portions! Will continue to bring my family here!

Fairly good food but MUCH More expensive than other Mexican eateries that are just as good or better in the food department.Staff is a bit passive, not sure I'd go back.

Boom. Get the Fundido Especial or the Molcajete. DELICIOUS!!! Each time I go there, I walk away wishing Mexican food were good for me so I could eat at La Costita every meal! The ingredients are super fresh, the menu is extensive, and the service is delightful! The ambiance is your typical blue tiled walls that you find in many Mexican restaurants but the food just takes this place up several notches from "typical". We are now spoiled for all Mexican restaurants forever!!

The staff was great !! Everyone was attentive and smiling, regardless of whether or not they were our "designated server". Abraham at the bar overheard us talking about the chile and queso that was advertised on the board and quickly offered a sample for us to taste. He called it crack cheese (and let us know that it was his own special recipe) and after tasting it, we agreed !! We ended up pouring it all over our food, delicious !!

carne asada fries. video poker horchata cheap, open a bunch, and super friendly!

First thing I noticed there are two Costitas right next to each other ? Okay.....well I tried both and the experience both times was pretty dissapointing. The sit down restaurant on the left is over priced mediocre Mexican food...if you can call it that. For that kind of price I would expect something more authentic than store bought burritos. Seriously if you have "taco salad" on your menu your not a Mexican restaurant. - Former Restaurant manager , bartender , Real Mexican.

This place has some of the best chips and salsa I have had. The food is great. Roberto is one of my favorite bartenders anywhere. I ordered a large salsa to go and it was gone in 24 hours after arriving home.

This is our favorite Friday night stop. The food is fairly good quality - especially the churros. I don't usually do dessert at any restaurant (or at home) but the combination of the creme filled churros and vanilla ice cream is heavenly. Their margaritas are decent and the portions are large. I always order a small and end up a bit tipsy. They have a family dining area which easily accomodates my large 10 person family, and room enough for my three nephews to get a little antsy during dinner without causing sour looks from patrons. Mexican food is not my favorite, and I prefer the dishes my relatives make over anything I've had in a restaurant...but this is pretty filling. The family atmosphere, the pleasant wait staff, and the churros are the main draw. :) The fact that it's within walking distance is an added bonus.

My boyfriend and I are big fans of this mexican restaurant, going to make it short and sweet and say we have always had good food and friendly service here!

Went to dinner here, it was pretty good. Better than I thought it would be. It wasn't to busy when we went, the chips and salsa were on par with most of the other Mexican restaurants. I ordered the vegetarian burrito with black beans...it was good, highly recommend. I also tried the cheese enchilada, man was it cheesy. Service was good and atmosphere was very quaint. Food came out quickly and the waiter was able to help us with our order and explain everything that went into the meals. That's very helpful when you're vegetarian.

This place is my favorite Mexican cuisine in the Gresham area. Everything on the menu is rather delicious and the service is always prompt and polite. If you really wanna try something amazing, I suggest the Tacos Tijuana, if you like Carne Asada that is. Definitely some of the best around! Ps- the chips and salsa are great too!

Surprised at the good reviews. Chips and salsa were good, entrees were mediocre at best and overpriced. Service was meh. Maybe we just were there on an off day.

We went to celebrate a birthday, a party of ten. The drinks were large, but not cheap $$$, we had to constantly find a server to get more chips / salsa and when one of the kids spilled their water I ran to try to get a towel and by the time anyone arrived we cleaned it with napkins. I am not sure if they speak English they seemed to be having a hard time with the language. Food taste and presentation was OK but the food must have been sitting on a wait table for some time as we sat for well over forty five waiting to eat. The food was served barely warm and went to cold quick, servers were polite when you could get someone and when they could understand you. The thing that Upset me the most is when we arrived late Sunday night I thought they would have more seating than at the very back of the restaurant with very large boxes and more boxes of glasses and a bunch of what looked to be warehouse items to sit and dine by, I was shocked that they would put anyone with the restaurant supplies for a B day party.

Great Mexican restaurant!! Its by our house, which is fortunate for us. We try other places but always come back to this place. Service wonderful! Food very good!

Best Mexican food around! Great service, great drinks, and amazing salsa!

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! Its hard to find a decent mexican place in portland. The salsa was good, you could taste a little smokiness from something roasted in it, and the chips were hot and fresh! I ordered a side of salsa verde, which kicked ass- a bit of spice but the perfect amount. they didn't even charge extra for it! I ordered the Fundido Especial. OMG! It's a huge chicken chimichanga (all perfectly cooked/shredded/white meat chicken) in a crispy golden fried flour tortilla split into 3 pieces and smothered in a cream cheese sauce and cheddar cheese- Delish! On the side were refried beans in their own edible bowl, guacamole and sour cream, and another edible bowl of the most perfectly cooked and seasoned Mexican rice. It was well balanced, fluffy, soft but still held the right texture- some of the best I've had! The wait staff was friendly, and gave superb service. Could have been that we were the only people there around 2:30pm on a Friday, but still very nice and accommodating. The only complaint I really have is that you could taste dish washing detergent (bleach) in the coke. A second rinse on the dishes would be nice!

Really impressed with this place. Most of the mexican restaurants in this area are mediocre and even dirty inside- this place was great! I was really impressed with the food that was fresh and very artfully prepared and plated. Inside was nice and clean- drinks are a little spendy- but oh well. Staff very friendly. This is the only other mexican restaurant I will go to in Gresham!

I have been looking for a favorite Mexican restaurant and I finally found it! La Costita is everything I wanted and more. The chips and salsa are wonderful, the tortilla soup is amazing and my new favorite dish is Alambre de Res! YUM!!!
(5)Thomas A.
Staff was charismatic, food was underwhelming (beef was dryer than a bone), and everything was incredibly overpriced. Save your self $10 and go to a food cart. Seriously... $17 for a burrito?!

I found myself in a strip mall way out in Southeast when the craving for a burrito struck so hard it had to be satiated. I was far from home, and far from the familiar. Now what? Enter my trusty Yelp app with its Nearby function. The phone may not work worth a damn, but this thing is more of a portable Yelp and Facebook device anyway (damn you AT&T and your crappy phone service, and yet, I love this ridiculous "phone"). Well what do you know? There is a Mexican restaurant somewhere in this God forsaken strip mall. The Bud and I entered not knowing what to expect, and I have to admit, we were impressed by how big this restaurant is, and frankly, how kind of adorable it is as well. Lots of murals and faux brick work and arches and alcoves. It's kind of fun, in a strip mall tacky sort of way. It reminded me a tiny bit of Casa Bonita, except without the entertainment or, you know, people on fire diving off cliffs. (*sigh* How is that not a national chain?) The menu was large, spanning multiple pages. It is a touch pricey for Mexican food. The chimichanga I ordered was delicious, and I loved the fluffy rice and flavorful refried beans. I was somewhat disappointed that my margarita tasted like a mix, but that didn't slow me down drinking it. I found it left me a bit tipsy in the end, so there was more going on there than I originally thought. Yay tequila. Who knows if my travels will again take me out this far east when the sudden urge for Mexican strikes. But this place is definitely in my internal database should I ever be hungry out there again.

Not a bad place. I think they could include more cilantro/lime into the cooking.

I was laughing with the TLB (tall leggy blonde) last night about our recent evolution into foodies. To me, this only reaffirms my belief that yes; I am indeed finally reaching adulthood (albeit kicking and screaming the entire way) at the ripe old age of 35. I can remember my childhood disbelief when the parental units would show excitement when discussing a new restaurant, or plans to go out with friends to a favorite eatery. Yet, here the TLB and I were sitting at dinner, discussing the finer points of recent restaurant finds and our desire to try other new establishments that have appeared on our good food radar. So you may be wondering how this foodie talk relates to La Cosita, a quaint Mexican restaurant located in a strip mall in the burbs of Clackamas. Well, as a card carrying foodie, sometimes isn't it nice to eat something simple, yet good? You know, go back to the basics, before the time of fine dining enlightenment. Something non-pretentious (despite the location...for which the TLB quickly pointed out had a noticeable plethora of young high class hoochie mama's and trophy wives in training) yet high-quality. Its like even though I prefer a good native Oregon IPA, a PBR on rare occasions is the only thing that can really hit the spot. So in that sense, La Cosita is my dining PBR. The service there was prompt and very friendly, and we received our food in lightening speed. The two item combo plate was just as expected: covered in Spanish rice, refried beans, lots of cheese, a beef taco and a tamale. The $10 Cadillac margarita was big, strong and salty, just the way I like my margaritas. If you don't go expecting a new twist on Mexican food, or are looking for the ambiance of some of the finer dining joints in P-town, then you will definitely enjoy the understated food and environment at La Cosita.

I am constantly surprised by all the great Mexican restaurants in far SE. Came in for lunch and was quite happy with both the lunch and dinner menu. This place also has daily drink specials and a decent happy hour. Had a pork quesadilla. The meat was great and they had cheese, jalapeños and sides of sour cream with it. The portion size is a bit much but kinda expected. I will be back to test out more of the menu soon. (And hopefully one of those giant marguerites.

We were not impressed with the food or the service. No drink menu. Waiter not forthcoming with choices of margaritas. Ordered a melon margarita with Hornitos instead of well tequila. Charged an extra $7 and not for the large size either. I ordered the smallest size that was offered which was medium. There is no way this margarita was worth 17.49! I just got home from AZ where I had premium margaritas at three restaurants for considerably less money. Patron and Gran Marnier should cost more than Hornitos and Bols melon liqueur not less.... Had to ask for more salsa though more chips were offered, the chips are ok, Chipotle has much better chips and they are fast food....the first bowl of salsa was good, the second was very bland. Spinach burrito with grilled chicken didn't have any chicken, waiter did remove the extra charge for the chicken from bill and offer complementary dessert but the sticker shock from the bill had us ready to go home... I admit that growing up in Phoenix does make me picky about Mexican food and margaritas but this dinner just wasn't worth the over fifty bucks it cost for the two of us especially with one cocktail and one bottled Corona being ordered. We miss El Ranchito. Their margaritas were lousy but their food was significantly better for less and their tequila sunrises were great. Too bad the years of construction in Rockwood took them out...

This place is close to my work, and although I've been warned its mediocre food priced too high, whatever I tried it. Checked out the lunch menu and taco salad sounded great. I phoned in my order for 1130am and arrived promptly. After walking into the cantina express, which is right next door and likely only there so they can have even more lottery games, I found my food order and was not pleased. It cost 1.50 more than menu price because the manager told me he gave me the dinner taco salad and not the lunch taco salad. Ha. He asked if i wanted a smaller lunch size one made. Yea right buddy... like I got the time for them to make a new spit laced smaller sized taco salad. So I hoped this taco salad would be amazing and make it worth my stress. No, it's a basic 5.99 taco salad they can make at mochas gracias (fast food). So I won't be going here again...

I went to the express side of the establishment and ordered a torta. They were both huge enough to feed 4 people easily. The carnitas had a lot of flavor by itself but when added to the avocado, tomato, lettuce, beans and jalapenos made it a really flavorful torta.

Born and raised in SoCal. Always looking for good Mexican food in Oregon! Can't find it so I make it myself. Well... until tonight anyways. Delicious.. everything from the Cadillac margaritas on the rocks of course to the salsa and my enchilada... perfect! I only wish I could say that in espanol!

Called to see if they were open, they said yes. Showed up and doors were locked and there was no indication they were closed or opening late. Not happy to drive out of my way to come here only to find it closed.
