My friend referred them to me, raving about how wonderful everything was there. From their cookies to their cakes and pies, she said I couldn't go wrong with them. As much as I love the look of fondant based cakes, I knew from experience that fondant doesn't taste that great, and I wanted my cake to taste great and look great. They had many cake flavors to choose from and even cupcake options as well, with filling if you wanted it. We chose cupcakes because they're mess-free and bite size. My husband actually went there before me and bought a few cupcakes for fun, raving about how delicious they were. He said the cake was moist even after a day or two and the frosting was nice and light - none of that over-sugared lard other places had used. They also had cake stands/cupcake stands for rent at a reasonable price, which was awesome because other places were charging an arm. Their pricing was a little steeper than other competitors; however, their cakes were worth it on taste alone. We had two cakes: pink champagne cake with white chocolate mousse filling and white cake with lemon mousse filling, all topped with a single layer of smooth iced buttercream frosting. We chose not to add details like flowers or swirls because it cost extra, but the entire display was simple & lovely, decked out in pastel colored cupcakes (of pinks, ivory's, greens and peaches) with simple white colored frosting on top. They also delivered the cupcakes on the day of our wedding. Their location isn't ideal, having them located in Southeast Portland, OR near the corner of 72nd Ave. and SE Woodstock Blvd. Their shop is a small one, tucked behind a local pub amongst a housing community. The shop almost looks out of place, but is noticeable giving its red and white striping on the front of the building. The shop itself is small in size, offering a small viewing area for goodies and a few tables and chairs. Parking is limited to street parking, offering no designated lot for guests. Would I order cakes/treats from them again? Absolutely! Would I recommend this place to others? Yes.

Birthday and wedding cakes are exfremely moist and delicious! Family and friends raved about the cakes. Although cupcakes were dry we will go back and order cakes for any future events.
(5)N S.
I was recommended to them from several other gals and was very pleased with the outcome. When we met for the cake tasting I was very surprised with their quick and courteous service. They were super helpful in catering this idea I was envisioning. And the best part, the price! Under 500 for a 4-tier cake! Can definitely recommend. Thank you!

I was running all over to find a German Chocolate Cake for my husband's birthday and ended at this bakery. Very friendly staff. They even added a message to the cake on a fly. I usually do not like German Chocolate cake at all but we just had the cake and oh my goodness - it was delicious. I ate me whole piece!!!! I can only recommend this bakery
(5)Jacob M.
This place has never disappointed on it's cakes or other desserts. I have tried several cakes and even taken them to get togethers and people just RAVE about them. I think my favorite so far is the "mocha madness", but I love all the ones I've tried, so in reality, guess I have many favorites. Definitely worth the stop. Oh, GREAT coffee also.
(5)Amy K.
You can trust a fat girl's review of a bakery. This is THE BEST cake ever. EVER! The German Chocolate and Bavarian Cream are my favorites, but they're all exemplary. The buttercream frosting is something to behold -- thick, sweet, light and rich. Everything they make is delicious: danishes, brownies, lemon bars and cookies to die for. The cupcakes with the hidden chunk of truffle-like fudge are truly decadent. Their fresh-baked bread is stellar. This bakery is the favorite of my family, my in-laws and now my work colleagues. We all praise the name of His Bakery. And, fellow atheists and agnostics, don't let the Christian aspect turn you off. You don't get a sermon with your baked goods. Just DELICIOUS and BEAUTIFUL creations made with love by good, caring folks. (Another Yelp review said the cakes are the only thing His Bakery does well? The cakes are the crowning glory, yes, but I'd recommend that reviewer try other merchandise. We have tried cookies, danishes, breads, muffins and the scrumptious cheesecake bars -- they're all good).

We ordered a 3 tier / 3 flavor wedding cake from His Bakery. They were the ONLY vendor we used for the wedding that delivered as ordered and on time. Not to mention divine!
(5)Natalie d.
Delicious cakes! We had the Cloud Nine and Chocolate Indulgence cakes for our son's 4th Birthday. We ordered cakes in advance, prepaid and cakes were ready on time. Everyone there was very nice and they added a complimentary Birthday message for us. All our guests were very impressed with the cake, as was were we. Very light, moist cake, sweet buttery frosting and at a really good price. This will be our bakery from now on! Thanks! It's pretty ironic some of the comments I saw about being bothered that the bakery owners were Christian, because "some" Christians are discriminatory. That seems pretty prejudiced and discriminatory to me. So sad in a country that is supposed to be equal treatment for all no matter race, age, sex or creed. Seems like the bakery is being an example of true Christians which, I thought, is about love and kindness for all. Just a thought. To sum it up, delectable cakes (and biscuits too), good prices, quality ingredients, a stand-up local business that doesn't cut corners, and good people to boot. I'll be coming back and sending people their way. Thanks again, our son enjoyed his birthday!
(5)Ms M.
Let me tell you - I ordered a cake from Bella Cupcake for my husband's birthday, when I went to go pick it up, they had no record of my order, so I had no birthday cake! I was so upset! I came onto Yelp, found His Bakery and I'm SO GLAD I did! Their cakes are literally DIVINE! So much better than Bella Cupcake! Moist, flavorful, and decadent - and cheap! I was able to get TWO delectable cakes right away, and my husband has been raving about it for days! Thank you His Bakery, you are our Go To Bakery now!
(5)Terry S.
Wonderful. I've driven past several times over the past years, never noticed (what a shame). I just ate a slice of apple pie and it was very good. The crust was flaky but didn't crumble.

His Bakery/Just-a-Bite Deli in Oregon City. I have been a fan since they opened their doors in Oregon City. They offer delicious sandwich and salad combinations and soups during the fall and winter months. The cakes and baked goods are amazing and they taste as good as they look. I have never been disappointed they offer seasonal favorites and I'm sure I've tried everything over the years. My personal favorites are the, Chocolate Decadence Cake and the Raspberry/Cream Cheese coffee cake.....unforgettable!
(5)Pork Chop Express R.
Everything is good here. And the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Try the marionberry pockets and pecan cinnamon rolls.

Three years ago I called to order a pie for my Dad's birthday. I told the woman that I was 9 months pregnant and the ONLY reason that I would not be there to pick up the pie is if I was in labor. As fate would have it, I delivered my son on my Dad's birthday. During the day and a half of labor, I was called no less than 7 times to pick up my pie. The calls were agressive and unfriendly. My parents went in a couple days later and explained what happened; there was no mention of the nasty phone calls. I will not be back. The only reason that I gave "His Bakery" two stars, is because the pie was really good, from what I hear..
(2)Valerie H.
I love this place, they did my wedding cake, and Terry and Gean are AMAZING, don't be upset by the Bible versus. All the people who work there are loving and kind, they don't discriminate. I always get great service when buying their cakes. Cloud Nine is also my favorite. If your going to let something get to you just because they're a bakery with a message about God than don't go. They don't preach to you, they are people who just care and want to give you great pastries as they would want. As for me, I'll be a customer for years to come. Just because you don't like a believe or an idea doesn't mean you need to walk away from a GREAT place. Yes it is pricey but in all honesty its worth it. You'll never find pastries as scrumptious or delicious like His bakery.
(5)Nina S.
I have had nothing but great bakery items at His and it's my go to place for cupcakes or cakes. The service is great over the phone and in person. Their cupcakes are moist and always a big hit. The prices are reasonable and very competitive among bakeries. I did get a bit skeptical with the religious name but then quickly got over that preconceived notion. Great bakery.
(5)Kelsie B.
This place is darling! My fiancé and I decided to use His Bakery for our wedding cake. The gal Shelley is extremely nice and helpful and listened to all our ideas. The cake flavors and fillings are absolutely delicious. My fiancé was a little hesitate bc of the whole religious thing but that wasn't even and issue and who cares?? I am so excited for our wedding cake!
(5)Alyssa A.
This bakery has supported its neighborhood for as long as I have lived here. Their items are consistently donated to the neighborhood association's events for free and they have also provided a really great price on their baked goods for NA fundraisers. I went in there looking for a vegan-friendly bread to take to dinner at a neighbor's house and while the person who helped me had no idea what "vegan" was, they were more than happy to list off all the ingredients that went into every loaf. Imagine my delight when pretty much everything had only a handful of ingredients, all wholesome and high quality. I ended up walking away with a breakfast sweet bread and loaf of French bread as well. You can also expect very decent prices.
(4)Kate G.
I've been here a few times. The place has an old bakery vibe but not in the cute vintage way. The pie was yummy but seemed a wee bit pricey. The other baked goods were all so-so. The woman told me they use real butter for their baked goods which is nice considering so many places use shoddy oils and cheap ingredients. The last time I was there I noticed a big Jesus sign in the window. Do owners not realize that folks from other religions and agnostic/atheists might not like the JC advertising? For some reason whenever I see a Jesus sign I think my money may be used at Sunday morning offerings to fund anti-choice initiatives and anti-queer ballot measures. I know that's not the case for all JC followers but there is a strong correlation. Not cool. I vote with my fork and will avoid this place in the future. Oh lord-looks like Jesus just lost these folks another customer.
(2)Courtney K.
Yummmy. This place is cute and affordable. The lemon bar and baklava are my favorite so far!!
(5)Tiffany M.
I was introduced to this place thanks to the recommendation of my friend/supervisor, and I am grateful she told me about it. I love their desserts, it's delicious, affordable, & their service is gracious. I have been ordering my daughter's Birthday cakes from here for three years now; this year will be the fourth year as she is turning four. I always order her cakes very early (usually October) for her December Birthday, and they always have it ready for me on Xmas Eve. Also, I'm not big on spending a lot of $ on anything so their prices are always a bonus for me. People shouldn't be offended because His Bakery has Christian beliefs or praise Jesus; they're not preaching to you & it's not a church, they are just very faithful human beings (and that's great), they're just like any other business, you pay for a product. And actually I was told that they're the same people who used to work at the now-extinct Keno's... I think that's what it was called if I remember correctly... anyway, it's the old grocery store with a bakery inside that used to be on 122nd & Glisan. Love this bakery, and I hope they stay in biz forever!

Being raised in a devout Catholic family has resulted in me having some serious guilt issues and a refusal to participate in or patronize anything even remotely related to any organized religion. That has all changed and I am now making one exception to my no religion rule for the divine goodness that make up the cakes at "His" Bakery. At my workplace we have been sampling the cakes at His for our monthly birthday celebrations. Every single cake, no matter the flavor or style (lemon chiffon, chocolate raspberry, Bavarian chocolate, chocolate mocha...and much much more!) have been absolutely scrumptious. The cake is always perfectly moist, the filling just the right amount, and the frosting is never too sweet and makes me want to lick my plate clean. I've started purchasing their cakes for birthdays and friends, and not a one has been disappointed. The prices are fantastically reasonable - $12.95 for most two-layer cakes that easily feeds eight people, and they also discount day-old cakes for $5.00! I believe they also do specialty and wedding cakes. My sweet tooth is grateful that this heathen is allowed to walk in and buy these heavenly goodies. The people here are really nice too-just be prepared to be "God Bless'd" a few times before leaving.
(5)Liz S.
I thought this place was pretty old and dusty when I walked in, but the old lady behind the counter was so nice that I felt bad not buying something. I bought a few cookies and got the heck out of there. I was blown away when I tasted the cookies; SOOOO good! I honestly think it was the best peanut butter cookie I've ever had, and the snickerdoodle was also fantastic! I went back a few days later for more cookies, and ended up with a slice of chocolate pie. Now, understand that I am VERY picky when it comes to pie. This pie and the pie at Bipartisan Cafe are the best store-bought pies I've ever had. Delicious! I've tried several items at His Bakery since then, and the only thing I didn't think was delicious was the eclair.
(5)Tim S.
What a wonderful little bakery. We have been getting cakes here off and on for years. My family happens to like white cake with white frosting. This place makes and outstanding white on white cake. If that is what you like, call a couple days in advance since they don't make that kind every day. The bread, cookies and pies are good too.
(5)Natalie W.
A little skeptical at first, I am now a serious fan of His Bakery. Walking into this place is like stepping into my Nana's kitchen. It's very cozy, very quaint, and feels like I imagine a Midwestern coffee shop in the 50's would have felt. My favorite product, hands down, is their "Hearty Grain Sunflower Seed" bread. Normally when I stop by it is still warm from the oven and I end up having to take it home unsliced, which is completely fine by me. This bread is hearty, tender, delicious, and at $3.95 per (hefty) loaf, a superb value. The bread is a great staple, but when I'm feeling decadent, their sweet things are equally delicious. Try the oatmeal cookies. They use real butter and high quality ingredients, and it shows. I will definitely continue to buy the bread here on a regular basis and also to stop by on my way to work for coffee and a delicious Zucchini Nut muffin.

Let's just get it out of the way right at the beginning: yes, HE is Jesus, and I'm not sure but from the artwork & pamphlets decorating this little bakery, it's possible He might be Mormon Jesus? I'll have to check next time I visit. Given the title and the choice of decor, walking in that first time could seem a bit intimidating if you're not a churchgoer, but there's no need for fear. Even our Wiccan neighbors love His donuts and muffins, and have to admit: here are nice, old-fashioned baked goods, served by equally nice, old-fashioned folks.

Great Neighborhood Bakery. Delicious & Friendly! Marionberry muffin + ginger scone.....to die for. Lucky to have this bakery in our neighborhood
(5)Amy S.
I've never been into the bakery but went to visit family in Portland for my birthday and my sister-in-law got my birthday cake from His Bakery. I grew up the graddaughter of a professional baker/cake decorator and I am EXTREMELY picky about my cakes/cupcakes. Having said that, it was a DIVINE (heh...no pun intended) cake. Delicious chocolate cake with creamy chocolate filling and light ganache on top. Just based on looks, one would have expected a heavy, too rich, extremely sweet cake. Not the case. It was perfectly light and delicious! I plan on visiting there when I go back to PDX because I MUST try the other things they have there!
(5)willis w.
I have tried many items among "His Bakery's" robust selection. The flavors and freshness are UNSURPASSED! The staff is friendly and helpful. I particularly like "Marty" who is quick with a "God bless you!" as she helps you. WOW!
(4)Peter V.
Don't judge a book by its cover. Don't judge a bakery by its cover either. This place might not look like a high end bakery but it tastes like one! They did our wedding cake and it tasted amazing! We had so many people tell us it was the best wedding cake they have ever tasted and we agree. We had a chocolate bottom with a lemon poppyseed and raspberry filling top. Not only will we recommend them for cakes in the future but also stop by once in awhile to get random baked goods.
(5)Marie W.
We hired His Bakery to make our wedding cake after my best friend used them for her wedding cake. It was delicious! I was worried we ordered way too much cake but it was so good that many of our guests had seconds. Thankfully we still got some leftovers to enjoy after the wedding. I just wish they were closer to where I live so I could enjoy more of this bakery!
(5)Lia K.
Don't judge a book by its cover, this place is small but amazing! I ordered my dads 70th birthday cake from this bakery blindly (without trying there product first, which I never do). I wanted a golf/sailing themed cake with two layers to make it extra special. I ordered chocolate cake, filling and buttercream. Just to decorate the cake nicely they put a layer of white buttercream over the top. Firstly, the cake tasted amazing! Everyone at the party thought it was way good and would definitely go there again. The decorations turned out amazing and the cake held together for the traveling plus one day of not eating it. The cake was affordable, and they delivered just what they promised. I'm a baker so I tend to be a harder critic on bakeries, but if you haven't tried this place, make it happen! (While we were waiting to pick up the cake, we tried there apple strudel and cranberry orange scone, they were fabulous!
(5)Mary C.
The blueberry muffins are the bomb. So dense, cakey, soft and loaded with blueberries. A must try!!
(5)Autumn G.
Love this place. Delicious cakes, affordable prices and friendly staff! a hidden gem!
(5)Nick H.
Just a quick review here.... If you need a cake for an occasion, I would urge you to poke your nose into this place before you finalize your decision. Their cakes look great, taste great and pass the all-important 2nd day test. There are a lot more than just cakes to choose from. Come take a peek.
(5)D P.
What a wonderful little find. The cakes are delicious and the prices are the best around, especially for a homemade custom cake. I keep finding reasons that require me to bring cake.
(5)Denise M.
Excellent little bakery with yummy food and awesome service. This bakery supports one of the culinary colleges by providing externship a for advanced culinary students. What a great business!
(5)Andrea M.
His Bakery is amazing. They delivered exactly what I wanted for my wedding cake. I had had nightmares from reading too much on the blog cake wrecks of destroyed wedding cakes, but had nothing to fear. Granted my wedding cake design was pretty simple, but they executed it beautifully. The cake itself was delicious. I had several people make mention after the wedding that it was the best cake they had ever tasted. The employees were great to work with, very friendly. I'll definitely be recommending His Bakery!
(5)Mara H.
Valerie and the entire staff worked with us to help create the cake I wanted. We were blown away by how awesome the final product was. All the flavors we chose were a hit but people are still talking about the pink champagne cake with raspberry mousse. Highly recommend these guys!
(5)Erin L.
I love this little bakery off of 72nd and Woodstock. My co-worker turned me on to it after she requested I pick up a Cloud 9 cake for our monthly birthday lunch. The Cloud 9 is a chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse and buttercream icing and oh my gosh is it amazing! They have other flavors like mocha or strawberry, which I have yet to try, but they all look good! Not only are they a cake place, but they are also a pastry place with a good assortment of cookies, muffins and pie. I try to resist getting other goodies, but the last time I was in, I got a maple nut scone and it was delicious. Definitely one of the best places if you need a cake or other desserts!
(5)Jewels N.
We drive by His Bakery frequently and it's a struggle not to stop each time we see it. Buy the Cloud 9!!! You will not regret it! Mmm
(5)Joni W.
By God, this place is amazing. I recently enjoyed a chocolate pudding cake from His Bakery and it was absolutely delicious. Probably the best chocolate cake I have EVER had. So moist, so delightful and not too sweet. I'll probably get my next birthday cake from here. That being said I didn't go in (the cake was brought to me) so I can't speak to the religion issue being brought up by other reviewers.
(5)Warren C.
I'm not afraid to admit that i am religious but never been one to openly advertise it to everyone. My first time coming into this bakery its painfully obvious this owner is all about their religion. Having been in the bar industry for a number of years I've learned to always stay away from the subject of religion and politics and tonight I'm here to write a review of an amazing bakery and not about ones religious beliefs. My wife or shall I say fiance was fairly dead set on having our wedding cake made by His Bakery. Her family has been going to them for years now and I hear that they make an amazing banana cake with fresh bananas and whip cream frosting. She had me at banana cake so we made an appointment to have a cake tasting. Having gone to a few bridal shows in the last few months I've had my fair share of wedding cakes and have seen how pricey they can be. I was curious if their price point would be accommodating to our wallet. That story will come soon! When we arrived this particular afternoon we were immediately greeted by their friendly staff. We explained to them we were here for a cake tasting and had an appointment and they had us sit and asked us if we wanted any coffee or not. We sat down and had they pleasure of one of their employees explain the different samples of cake that was served to us and the various fillings and frosting that accompanied their cake. Our selections of cake were banana, champagne, chocolate, and white cake. The frosting and filling consisted of buttercream, white chocolate mousse, chocolate mousse, chocolate buttercream, marionberry, and raspberry. The hardest part of sampling all of this cake and filling was really trying to come up with the combinations altogether. Once we were able to come up with that we already had a basic idea what we wanted. We gave their staff our order and they gave us recommendations and pictures to go with to see how we would like to decorate our cake. I really enjoyed the fact that this bakery is old school. They don't use fondant which my wife and I can't stand. They finished writing out our order and for the cost of the cake with the decorations and the fillings for 160-175 people came out to be only $525 for the whole thing. We may decide to order a quarter sheet but that would only be another 50 dollars additional. How many places can you find that can make a wedding cake for under $600? Not anyone I know of except for His Bakery. I am truly amazed how wonderful they are over there and the best part is the cost included them adding the roses and ribbon to the cake as well and delivery. I would definitely recommend His Bakery to all my friends and family from now on. You guys rock!
(5)Kassy E.
When I walked into this bakery, it reminded me of a sweet little Christian Bookstore owned by a family. We had a cake tasting box and it was nice how they had it set up in such a way that we could pair any of the cake flavors with any of the filling flavors. Everything was good, but it wasn't anything that stood out or that you HAVE to try.
(3)Paul L.
I have been stopping in regularly on visits to Portland either to pick up muffins and the like, or for a simple breakfast, ever since one of my friends who lives in the Crystal Springs neighborhood introduced me. The muffins are the highlight, for me. The blueberry muffins, for example, are packed with berries. The scones are a bit too cakey for my taste. Only coffee and tea from tea bags to drink.

We just had our wedding reception at the Adrianna Hill Ballroom. Our cake was to be three tier with two blue birds flying overhead appearing to be wrapping ribbon around the cake. I was nervous about what the cake would look like finished as I wouldn't see it till the event. It was gorgeous. Everything I wanted. However the best most amazing part? This cake was absolutely divine. EVERYONE loved the banana, the chocolate was made to perfection and the red velvet was smooth. I told my husband, whenever we need a cake......we will go back to His Bakery!! Thank you Thank you, Thank you
(5)Nicole G.
We had gotten a graduation cake and birthday cake to taste before our wedding and they were both perfect! Our wedding cake was amazing! The staff was so sweet to deal with. The cake was spot on to what we wanted. It tasted amazing and looked even better! They made my decorations perfect! I would buy a cake from them anytime!
(5)Christina J.
A few months ago I had my first taste of a His cake from a family member's bday & haven't been able to get it out of my head since! The most moist, fresh, delish thing I've ever had in my mouth. So, naturally this week when my own bday was coming up I knew I just had to taste that cake again! I am now a His Bakery addict. I ordered the white chocolate Very Berry Italian Butter cream that u could put on cardboard & I'd lick it off. & I love that I'm supporting a local Christan owned business in this day in age of such religious discrimination.
(5)Jeannine B.
If I could give His Bakery 100 stars I would! Their cakes are the most amazing in the world! I have used His Bakery on many occasions; family gatherings, holidays, birthdays, even trusted them with my wedding cake, and never once have I been disappointed. When planning my wedding I shopped around for the baker that would do my cake and ultimately I decided on His Bakery. Not only were they cakes the best tasting, but their prices were way more affordable than anyone else I did a tasting with. Two thumbs way up.
(5)James D. H.
I have lived in this area for years and never knew about His Bakery till now. My Step Dad picked up a Birthday Cake for my Mommy. Chocolate Cake with Fudge Filling and topped with Chocolate Frosting. Bam. Uber moist and very tasty., not too mush frosting. Just the right amount. Sweet but awesome. (take that Safeway!) Really nice looking cake with hand made decorations and writing. for only $13.00. What! Ya. That's what I said. Not a big place seats about 10 people inside. I like that its not big. I like small places. Going back with a couple people to try some other things and enjoy some coffee and relax.
(4)Sharron F.
I have been going into His Bakery for over 20 years. By far one of the best in Portland area and the nicest people that serve you! I send all my friends there for great desserts and home baked breads! Very highly recommended for wonderful wedding and birthday cakes, Yummy!
(5)Kimberly M.
I ordered my wedding cake from His Bakery and it was an absolute pleasure to work with Jack and staff - from start to finish. Cake tasting was fun to do with my now-husband. I am still getting compliments on how delicious our wedding cake was and that some people had two slices each, as it was so good and plentiful. They delivered and set up for free and did everything exactly perfect. Will return for anniversary cakes! We had the fresh banana cake and the pink champagne cake. YUM!
