Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Been going to this place for YEEEEEEAAAAARS!!!! 1992-ish? Due to an annoying wheat allergy, I no longer get the El Loco Chicken Burrito (sniff sniff :( w/ the chili relleno in the middle. LOVE THAT THING!! So I get the chicken tacos. Comes with guacamole sauce on top. GREAT PRICE and DELICIOUS! This place knows their stuff. They have a reliable, long standing crew that knows how to turn out yummy food, and quick! This is a one-of-a-kind place w/ good food and prices.

"Meh" about sums it up. My carnitas burrito tasted like ass. I even had my husband taste it to make sure I wasn't trippin. It still tasted like ass. He had the loco burrito which looked much better and my kid had her standard bean and cheese burrito which I stole some bites of. It was OK. The worst part was that the drive- thru was non- operational so we had to go in. It was sad. Once a taco bell and now a dive burrito joint. The building has maintained a stasis in mediocrity.

El Burrito Loco is definitely one of the best chile relleno burritos I've had in Portland. I ordered it wet, and the red sauce was quite tasty. The refried beans were excellent. My only complaint was that the chile was stuffed with cheddar, instead of the normal queso, but that's getting quite nitpicky. I will definitely be back for more.
(4)Boll W.
It's not even convenient for me, but when I get a hankering for some Messican, I drive all the way out here. Why? Not only is their Loco Burrito huge, it's super good and the green chile they use in the relleno actually has some bite to it. No lame ass Anaheims used there! Their sauces are to die for(most of the time) and their Red Chile Cheese fries are divine!(they don't have them at EBL #1) Best Mexican in PDX. Late inning edit: Man, what the hell happened to this place. I get more gristle than Genesis P. The quality has really gone south here and I don't even frequent them anymore. This leaves me without a solid Mexican option. L-A-M-E
(2)Miriam M.
Chile Relleno Burrito! Even when it's not-quite-right, it's still darned tasty. I drive WAAAAAAY out of my way to go there for a decent burrito. I really like the green salsa and the people who work there are always super-friendly. AND I'm a lazy bastard, so the drive-through is awesome.
(4)brad u.
Oh loco, good for the late night or quickie burrito. It's satisfactory, even for a southwestern x-plant. But its mostly just really convenient.
(4)Jeff B.
Probably the best Mexican food I've ever had. My buddy says the cheeseburger and fries kick ass too, but I've not been brave enough just yet to try them. The prices for most their items are great for the amount you get. The burritos are truly loco. Huge. Plus the staff is always super nice.
(4)Ian D.
I can't say enough good things about El Burrito Loco. The reviews that complain about the food (or strangely blame EBL for salmonella) have it all wrong. This is traditional Mexican taqueria food, and it's wonderful. Whether you go with the Loco Burrito, the Pastor Burrito, the Chorizo Burrito, delicious chili cheese fries or yummy horchatas to drink, you truly can't go wrong.
(5)Mike I.
El burrito loco #3 introduced me to the notion of fast food Mexican outside of taco bell as a child. The food is really greasy. Also this isn't the top shelf as far as fast food Mexican goes. But, if you are hungover or trying to gain weight, a trip here isn't going to disappoint.
(3)Stephen C.
El Burrito Loco is great for what it is. It's a fast food mexican restaurant that is a step above Taco Bell and other mexican fast food places. Should you compare their food to sit down restaurants? No, it would be insane to. If you want some fast, cheap, mexican food to take home or eat on the fly, I would definitely recommend El Burrito Loco over Taco Bell, Taco Time, etc. Try anything with chicken in it; it's wonderfully moist and flavorful. And if you aren't going to eat in the car, get any burrito wet with the red sauce. That red sauce is one of the reasons I continue to go back. It's sweet and spicy, just the way it should be. Inside it feels like a fast food restaurant, they cook your food fast like a fast food restaurant, but the food is definitely a cut above.
(4)Alison M.
I used to come here every day for lunch. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to!!! Everything I have had there is delicious. I reccomend the Loco Chips or Chile Cheese Fries with sour cream. Theyre both amazing!! However, some of the stuff (like the chicken quesedilla) comes with soo much stuff and is SUPER messy. But be warned- if you come for lunch, you might have a bit of a wait since all of the kids from Madison HS come here and bombard the place!!
(4)Michael Z.
It's definitely a dive, located on one of my least favorite streets in Portland.. but for quick reasonably priced Mexican, it's pretty damn good. Since it's right on the drive to PDX, that's when we normally get to eat there. Just love their soft chicken tacos.
(4)Jodi N.
Best "fast food" mexican around. The prices are awesome, and the food is good. I love the drive thru. Service is always friendly.
(3)Izzy N.
Ooh this place... As a child my dad would occasionally bring us home a loco burrito. So I credit my dad for introducing these to me and I can usually trust his judgement in a good meaty burrito that's fatty and tasty. I did not say they are the best in the entire world so calm yourself snobs. but they agreed with my mouth for a good decade so I'm into it. Usually El burrito loco can be pretty dependable and consistent.. but on occasion it can be a complete miss and I regret eating it! I don't recommend the chicken version of the namesake burrito.. just go with the original.. full of steak and chile relleno goodness. I've tried their tacos and it's just ok I guess. Love the drive thru.. I hardly ever go inside. Do not order the chips, for it can be stale and truly regrettable- at least at this location it is. I wish Chicago had burrito's like these.. yeah I just said that. Dependable, hits the spot, fatty and not full of cheese, tomato and lettuce. Chipotle, you wish.
(3)R Y.
My girlfriend and I used to go here weekly for burritos. I love the green salsa, the chicken tacos and the burritos. It's really just a burrito place though, nothing special. For us it was on the way home from work, and the drive-thru makes it even more convenient.
(3)Jessica G.
One of my favorite places to eat! When I lived out of town and come back to visit I'd always go here. The food is bomb fast and cheap. It used to be located in north Portland and since they have moved I'll still make that trip. The staff are mostly nice, except for the little guy, he's so rude.
(5)Kevin L.
I currently live in California so I get to eat a lot of Mexican food. I only get to eat here a few times a year when I am up visiting family and so far I think El Burrito Loco is as good as any burrito joint back home. I usually get a carnitas burrito and a lengua taco on the side. Their sauce is pretty good too. True I have only eaten there about half a dozen times in the last few years but each time the food has been pretty good. I don't know if this is the absolute best Mexican fast food on the planet but it certainly satisfies a burrito hankerin.
(3)Jimmy H.
Cheap & delicious. Can't go wrong here.
(5)rick r.
The pastor was so greasy I want to drink some dish soap to break it down. The chicken tacos were decent, but they were smothered in guacamole the unnatural color of my grandparent's fridge from their 70s remodel. The chile relleno was also a greasy mess. The batter was soggy and the cheese goo on the inside was unnatural. I tried the whole thing then just ate the chile. Definitely not terrible, I just didn't have a feel-good experience. And really, I expected more. They'd get an extra star or two if they were open late. But as a lunch/dinner joint, they underperformed.
(2)Ricky M.
El Burrito Loco is solid. I think I've eaten at one of their establishments before. I had the Carne Asada burrito(been on an Asada kick lately) Overall I rank their Carne Asada right behind La Sirenita in terms of flavor and Price. It is a solid $3.95 burrito.
(4)Matt L.
Love this place...best chicken chimi in town for $5! Huge portions at great prices and a drive through. Drive through is slow...but come on people it's not taco bell...turn the car off and relax : -)
(4)Sonny D.
I use to go here all the time for some mexican food but ever since Muchas Gracias came along I go there now. But if im craving some chilli cheese fries I stop by here and I also get some steak tacos!
(4)Sonny B.
Our friendly neighborhood burrito joint.

I have been to this location on two occasions and the second will be my last - without a doubt. The food is ok - not nearly as good as the superior Super Burrito in Milwauikie or the Super Torta in Oregon City, and the service at El Burrito Loco is horrible. My first experience was not much different than my second, which was the final straw so to speak. Both times it was a longer than normal wait time for the food, which was given to me cold. Receiving cold food tells me that the wait was not due to the food still being prepared. The second time which was about 20 minutes ago, I was behind someone else in the drive thru and sat in line waiting with cars behind me while the car in front me me carried on a conversation with someone at the window. I patiently waited thinking that perhaps his order was still being prepared. After 6 minutes they "pounded fists" and the car in front of me drove off while the worker walked away. I pulled up to the window to discover that the people working the drive thru were different people that the bald guy talking to the car in front of me. I waited another 4 minutes and was given my order. I got out of the parking lot and opened my food to discover it super greasy and cold. My lunch time was wasted away in my drive there and waiting, I flew back to work and ate two of my tacos after putting them in the microwave. The meat here is very bland and if you do not get hot sauce, you might as well be eating chewy cardboard. Scratch one off my list, and I should have gone to the Taco House across the street.
(1)Katherine W.
Order anything, it's all good, and cheap too. It seems like basic old-fashioned "Mexican," and I guess it is, but they do everything well and at a great price.
(4)Joshua D.
I must first add a disclaimer that I have never actually been inside. However, their tacos are killer, especially for the price. If you are in the area and want some tacos, go here. Raise your standards, avoid Taco Bell. Burrito Loco cranks out food at a reasonable price, and while it take a tad longer than most big name fast-food joints, it is more than worth the wait. I've heard good things about their burgers, and their chips and fries are great too. Without fail, I've been greeted in the drive-thru window by someone funny, cheerful and helpful. I assume that their cuisine is true-ish to authentic-ish Mexican food, but a quarter Asian guy from South Dakota this place is legit. A great deal for grabbing a post-work snack to go.
(4)John M.
I made my second visit to El Burrito Loco tonight. I have to give this place credit. The establishment takes Mexican Fast Food to a different level. I have never been inside the restaurant yet. Both visits have been drive thru. The team members that have taken orders have always been super friendly and accurate. The service is always fast and accurate. These are all good qualities and rather rare it seems these days. Or maybe I am just getting old..you decide. I had two carnitas tacos and shared an order of taquitos supreme. The tacos were in the street taco style and really flavorful! Definitely above average. The taquitos were also succulent and delicious. There was a generous amount of cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. Very enjoyable and a good shared appetizer. This is a great place if you want something fast but not exceedingly generic. A solid four stars among restaurants of similar price / type.
(4)Samantha H.
Great food. Reasonable prices. Super awesome, kind staff. Slightly off putting interior/exterior. You will leave feeling satisfied and maybe a little heavier. Not much else to say! You really have to try it before you say anything, so don't listen to superficial garbage. They have take out; you can enjoy it somewhere else. It's a frickin' sweet place.
(4)Laura L.
I was happily surprised that someone else discovered El Burrito Loco #3 so I didn't have to do it because more than likely I would not have stepped inside. But lemme tell ya they make a mean soft tostada! I haven't had much else on the menu because it's alway just Soft Tostada Time at the Crazy Burrito. Oh and it's way cheap. And the food is very fresh - the beans taste lard-free and the vegetables are great! The folks who work there are super nice, and if you're lucky, you'll get the guy with the Radio voice who's dulcet tone makes "soft tostada mes amigos" all swoony. The inside is orange orange orange. And very clean. I can see why most opt for the drive through. But seriously if you're cruising down 82nd and need food, it's a great option.
(4)Jaret S.
What's not to like about the food , good price for fair portion. Chili cheese fries a family favorite , loco nachos are tasty. This place is consistently pumping out a quality product . Always in the mood for a taco, something to be said about a brick mortar restaurant versus a food truck or food Fith wheel.
(4)Dan R.
Been going to this place a few years, taken friends but never reviewed. Everything's tasty. I'm partial to the combination (red & green) burrito, carne asada taco and loco fries.
(4)Shonna B.
Fast, consistent, good Mexican food that is affordable. My family and I have been coming here for many years. Reminds us of the Mexican food places on the block when we lived in San Diego. Love the guy with the game-show-host voice! Service is always pleasant and they get my special orders right EVERYTIME. Nice staple in the neighborhood. Good work Guys... Good work.
(4)mike g.
Worst place ever worst food ever nothing is good about this place. I had a steak burrito it was awful as was the cleanliness of the place the staff was subpar and customer service was sub standard be warned
(1)Andy S.
I don't write many reviews, but Jeff M. from 7/25 has inspired me... I like this place, and for a drive through alone I'd give them 5 stars due to friendly and efficient service, and of course the yummy food. I do wish the drive through menu was more detailed so I knew which brkfst 'rito to order lol but they're all good so I'll just take it upon myself to try & memorize them all ;) Jeff M. from 7/25, I'm sorry but maybe you should tip once in a while, maybe use your best table manors? Giving a one star over 4 sauces per burrito... who sounds like the jerk here?
(4)Patrick C.
Much better than the fast food exterior would suggest. Although the food is fast, it is actually made of real things that don't come out of a spigot or hot glue gun or whatever they use at Taco Bell. Prices are very reasonable, portions are large, and the service is always surprisingly friendly. Not much of a great place to sit down necessarily, but not the worst, either. And they have a drive through!
(4)James D. H.
authentic (Americanized) Mexican food. Legit street tacos. Low prices and all the salsa Roja or Verde' you want, makes this place awesome. We came with an order for two families, including two teenage boys and one very hungry adult male. So we pretty much ordered the entire menu. I ordered one of every Taco they had on the menu and a few they didn't. Like tounge and cow head. With a side of Guacamole and all the salsa I could carry. I was bent on eating all the tacos I could get. I managed to rifle about 9 down my gullet but that's all I could do. I've gotten tacos from here a couple times and have always been satisfied with the food and the service.

The Crazy Burrito..........Go Crazy or Go Home in NE!!!!! So a friend in the NE hood suggested this place for dinner, and I have to say, I am taken aback how good it was. Most of us cruising up 82nd(okay poor choice of words), would never stop to eat anywhere that wasn't a golden arch and a bathroom stop only! My mind has been changed and my horizons expanded. I opted for the veg friendly Super Veggie Burrito Loco, a large burrito filled with fresh grilled veggies, a chili relleno, topped with a fresh assortment of guacamole, Mexican crema, and a side salad of lettuce, tomatoes, etc. All that for $6.50!!! Cheap, filling, fresh, and semi-healthy. I couldn't believe it. The outside looks like an old " Run For the Border" business, and has the usual wear and tear inside of a place not updated since 1990. Nevertheless, these fine folks make the most of everything they have. A simple menu with good options for vegetarians, and a place that leaves you scratching your head because you realize that for the same quality, you dropped $8-9 for a smaller portion of what you just ate at the usual Mexican chain restaurants. Give this place a try. It would be a shame not to. Those in the NE area, forget about your standard go to's, and drive up 82nd a ways and give El Burrito Loco a try. It puts any fast food place to shame, and will leave you feeling pretty good about supporting a local small business with the hardest working crew you'll find.
(4)Morgan H.
This place is seriously legit. I've eaten here over 100 times including today (they are a local tradition) and never been less than totally satisfied. Best items are tostada burrito with red sauce inside, loco burger, cheeseburger, Al Pastor ANYTHING, but especially sope, machaca burrito, anything nacho, and don't sleep on the pastrami and cheese sandwich! I don't know who the cook is, but I'll be goddamned if they don't make one of the best hot pastrami sandwiches in town. I don't know who's idea that was, but it's awesome. They will make anything, anyway you want. They have great customer service, great value, and the food is shockingly good and freshly prepared. You can get three Al Pastor tacos, french fries, a large bean burrito, a pastrami and cheese grilled sandwich, and a Carne Asada sope for like $13. That's crazy. That's an enormous feast for two people at $6.50 each, $7.50 with tip if you choose. That's cheaper than anywhere else for miles, including Taco Bell. The only thing cheaper is the Dollar Menu, and that food isn't fit for an animal. It would be an insult to compare it to the from-scratch refried beans and hand made salsas at El Burrito Loco. El Burrito Loco is an example of what fast food should be: independently owned, long lasting appeal, serving quality food that is quickly prepared, and presented with a smile. We love you El Burrito Loco, keep up the good work!
(5)Joyann R.
Love this place! It's cheap, it's delicious, and they have a drive through! I think they do use every piece of meat off of the chicken (not just white breast) but if that turns you off, they have lots of meet free and vegetarian options. My go to menu item is the soft tostada burrito, and the hardshell tostada. Both on the vegetarian section of the menu. Also love their softshell chicken tacos. I love that it's not corporate. These little local places are always the best.
(4)Allison R.
Okay, I have to admit, this place has grown on me. I think its probably the lack of Mexican cuisine in the area but that's cool. You get what you pay for, you obviously see its a little dinky taco place, so don't be disappointed with you get greasy tacos and bland "Mexican" food. Its so cheap that its good!! You just need to know what to order. Tacos Burritos I still get the same thing, bean and cheese with rice and sometimes I'll add the sour cream. My co-worker keeps telling me to try the Chile Relleno burrito, I'm KIND OF thinking about getting that today. Will update if I do. Def get some chips and green salsa. Also, you can ask for a side of jalapenos and that always makes food better, especially burritos. I have only been here on lunch break's through the drive-thru, so its normally pretty quick, I've never had a line to wait in. Maybe one or two cars max. Whatever you do, don't go across the street to The Original Taco House. Its AWFUL, and I truly mean bad... like food poisoning status. True story.
(4)Michael W.
So if you find yourself on NE 82nd Ave with a bit of a rumble in your tummy you could do yourself a favor and head to El Burrito Loco. I eat there about once a month because it is fast a good. I like the taquitos and the loco burrito. My wife likes the loco chips. If you want to sit down and eat it, it is still better to come here than it is to go to the sit-down place across the street. When you belly bubbling, buy a burrito and it will bulge. MMMM - Loco Burrito is good fast food.
(4)Todd P.
Been coming here off and on for years. Great portions for what you pay (you can easily get gut bombed here for 5 bucks) Regrettably, there are scores of things on the menu I have yet to try and others I have (like the burgers) that most have not. There's the 'el-loco' burger, which is an elongated burger easily the size of a footlong sub across the street (it's alright), by far the better option is the double 1/4 pound cheeseburgers at just $2.75 a pop (or at least last I checked) these are great for when you need to coat your stomach in grease (as in working off a Sat morning hangover) Not for the timid though - the corner of the paper bag wells up with grease (through the wrapper and on through the bag itself) If you have any concern for your car or trucks seating material, you need to fashion a makeshift diaper for the bottom of the bag. Regardless of that, the burgers have their own very distinct flavor and are unrivaled 'bang for the buck' wise.
(4)Kolten L.
Worth the stop just for the Chili Cheese Fries! Been coming here for 15 years and they never get old. Nothing fancy. Easy to make a meal under $5. If you go I recommend you order Chili Cheese Fries (add sour cream and jalapeños) and a Chicken Soft Taco (ask for the heinz hot sauce). Comes to about $4 and will fill you up. They used to have a drink called, "Orange Bang", sadly it is gone ='(
(5)Christopher H.
Obviously, this isn't a 5-star restaurant - it's a cheap neighborhood taco shack. For a place like this, you go in expecting nothing more than a pass-fail test as far as the food goes. That said, the food isn't half bad. When I want tacos, these are the ones I crave. What earns the 5-star review for me is the service, and from this one guy in particular. I should probably get his name sometime, but if you've been there, you know who I'm talking about. He always comes across the drive-thru PA loud and clear, and he always exhibits a friendly and professional attitude. Providing exception service while slinging cheap tacos... well, that's commendable.
(5)Alese A.
Although it's a "lower end" Mexican food place I must say....I had the best customer service I've had in a long time...the guy was clear and polite when taking order and even gave us a free drink! Food was pretty good too
(4)Kim K.
terrible food. the enchiladas are strange tasting and dry. the chicken ones are made with cubed dark meat with alot of red stuff and bad tasting sauce. the cheese ones are made with shredded cheese unmelted, just rolled up tortilla. the refried beans have no flavor. While I was eating I wondered if I was eating real chicken. Never again. I will be looking for a new place.
(1)Katie K.
Good for a fast food mexican restaurant. Much better than taco bell or other fast food joints. They have amazing tortillas and really decent good food. the dining room is pretty rough, but it is one of those places you go to for the food. Good prices too!
(4)Nancy K.
I'm definitely a fan of their chicken fajita burrito. I think it's a little bit more soupy than the usual since it has peppers and onions (molten hot, too) but it is really tasty. I always order it - it's so good I can't resist. Oh, I also got an order of Loco chips which is a giant pile of chips covered in red sauce, meat (I had shredded beef), cheese, and sour cream. Honestly, it looked totally disgusting but it was really good. A total glutton-fest. Unfortunately, my hubby wasn't too impressed with their carnitas burrito. He said it had some gristly bits which he is not a fan of. But luckily, this is my review, not his. A solid 4 stars for that awesome chicken fajita burrito!
(4)Eric M.
The food is consistently good, and made to order, with fast friendly service. It is my go-to place when I am in a hurry. I typically order burritos, but the chicken tacos are tasty too. Great value!
(4)terryb B.
Every time I go here I buy the same thing; hard shell tacos. They are $1.50 each and easily worth the price. I wouldn't say they are the best tacos ever, but they are easily the best tacos I've found on the east side of Portland. Good enough for me to visit once a week. I've also had the taquitos which are also pretty good and come with guacamole. My girlfriend always orders the cheese enchilada plate and seems to dig it.
(4)Tim M.
Go here all the time, quick, inexpensive and very tasty Mexican food. All the burritos are big with lots of choices. The Carne Asada burrito is very good but my Fav is the El Loco. This the carne asada but has a chili relleno in it . Try it with chicken if you're not a beef lover. The chicken soft tacos are "The best" double wrapped in corn tortillas. It is a sure bet.
(4)Ron C.
I have frequented this place since 1992 and have enjoyed every item there. The machaca is my all time fav. I first found this business in LA. It's called El Loco's there and when I learned of them in Portland I was elated! I try and make it by there every month or so. Chili Cheese fries baby! gotta try them!
(5)D. E.
I went into the dining room a couple of years ago on a November night. It was freezing inside. Too late to walk out, they saw me and came right up and took my order. " Why is it so cold in here", I asked after I paid? No reply. I may as well have asked for the secrets to the universe. Ordered 3 items and a pop and it was 11 bucks. Food was sort of warm but quickly cooled, naturally. Nothing special but just okay. I am so sick of these "authentic" Mexican restaurants that won't heat or AC the place, or care if it's broken, of won't turn it on. I wonder if the kitchen safety temperatures don't matter to them, either. Like my fellow Yelper, I should have gone over to the Original Taco House and had a nice warm meal for about the same cost. I won't be back. If you don't give a damn about the customer, don't expect their business.
(2)Mary Ann M.
I love this place. The worst thing about it is that I'm rarely in this neighborhood now. A hard shell taco and a bean and cheese burrito is my dream meal. If you want to be completely decadent, get the chili cheese fries or the loco nachos. I discovered this place as a teenager and it's just as good and affordable now as it was over a decade and a half ago.
(5)Matt R.
For all the times I have come here, I have not even tried half of the menu. Once I found a couple of things I liked, I stuck with those. I love the shredded beef here. It's chewy, moist, and full of flavor. I suggest the beef, bean, and cheese burrito for it. The chicken here is okay......the thing that bothers me about it is that it doesn't really look like chicken. Is it not supposed to? When it's covered in red sauce and cheese, though....I don't pay much attention to it. Good chimichanga. I just wish it had beans and rice inside without having to add them for extra. You will get your food fresh and quick. It's not fast food, it's food fast.
(5)H M.
I come here frequently because their burritos are so good. The chili cheese fries are not bad if you don't mind them greasy (I don't). One thing, however, is that it takes a long time for the food to come out. Factor in at least 15 minutes waiting in the drive-thru, I once waited for 30 minutes when there were three cars ahead of me. The guys who work there are always super friendly and nice.
(3)Holy-foo' X.
The burritos are definitely smaller, and cost about twice as much as back in the day when the Loco franchise was new in town, but they still some good eats, brothers and sisters... What has become of the once promising Loco Empire? The #3 associated with this brings a sort of sad-clown tear to the heart, in memory of the great Loco sister stores in No Po, which both disappeared w/o warning in the past ten years. Yelp does list an as-yet un-rated Loco out on Division which I will have to look into when time permits.. The #3 store on 82nd is a dilapidated old Taco Bell, still in pretty serious disrepair. You aren't going there for the dine-in ambiance, that's for sure. It still has the little fast food tables and booths from decades ago. The saving grace for this location is the DRIVE-THRU, which obviates any further discussion on the apparent lack of effort on the interior decor. Crispy shelled tacos are still fabulous at burrito loco, I especially dig the shredded beef. But to me it's all about los burros, hombre! This is where I honed my true abiding love for the Machaca and the Chorizo and the steak (and occasional chicken) fajita burritos. The Staff tells me that the Super Burrito Loco, or the Oregon or breakfast burritos are their biggest sellers, and that's fine if people prefer having all that potato and rice filler. For me, don't stand in the way of the frijoles and the meat and onions and hot sauce, amigos! As long as they keep makin' 'em they can count on one more vato loco coming through their drive way on a regular basis. Buen provecho, and stay thirsty, my friends!

Chicken tacos were great. Refried beans were a bit watery, though, and the rice greasy.

If someone asked me, "in the perfect world, what would fast food be like?" My answer would be, quite simply, "El Burrito Loco #3." Seriously, this is a great no frills Mexican joint. From their chorizo to their chile relleno, they're doing it right, and for the right price. If you're near, if you're hungry, drop in, find something that sounds good, and take a bite. You won't be disappointed.

The food was good. Greasy, but good. The place was pretty nasty though... and if you go during the high school's lunch hour, then you are eating with a bunch of high school kids. Not exactly the way that I want to spend my lunch hour - but overall it was pretty tasty... The hot sauce was tasty as well - don't miss out on the hot sauce. The El Burrito Loco was what I ended up with, based on a reference. If fact, that's what we both got - so I cannot comment more on the options. If you're looking for some greasy, fast, delicious, cheap Mexican food - then this is a good place to hit. Provided that it's not noon during the week!

I actually said aloud to myself, "Holy Jeebus, that's good!" I stopped in to pick up lunch today, for I was craving a burrito. I'm usually wary of fast food, but I had heard that this joint was tasty. You get big points from me for cleanliness and good service, and Burrito Loco had both. I ordered a bean, cheese and rice burrito and a side of chips and salsa. I got back to my office eager to partake of my noms. The pico is seriously off the hook, fresh and delicious! And it ain't in no tiny dixie cup either, it's in a 1/4 pound plastic deli container! And you get a whole brown lunch bag of warm chips! That right there could have been my lunch, but I had to put it aside to have at that burrito. It was really pretty perfect. Just the right amount of my favorite stuffs! I dumped copious amounts of red hot sauce on each bite for sinus-clearing fantasticness! Now hear this, there's a Taco Bell right down the street, DONT EVER GO THERE!!! Especially when there's really incredible fast Mexican food mere moments away.

I love this place. Been going for at least 6 years now. Great food. Great prices. I get the all meat burrito, which is very, very good. Same for the taquitos, spanish rice and amazing chips, amazing guacamole and very good pico de gallo (on the menu as salsa). There beef is outstanding. If you want to dine in, get there before 9:30 pm, but the drive thru is open until 10. Very, very worth going to. You may have to wait a couple minutes for your food if they are really busy, but the wait is so very worth it. They take cash or card. Plenty of seating. No outdoor seating, but the parking lot is a good place to park and eat. This place is the best "fast food" Mexican food in town, and, also easily beats original taco house across the board.

Visiting from the Bay Area to watch the NCAA Hoops tourney, a friend and I were looking for a good late night Mexican food fix after the 2nd round games. With 10pm approaching quickly on a week night, our options were dwindling quickly. By pure luck, we ended up at El Burrito Loco #3. Sitting at the drive through window combing over what to get, the voice over the speaker suggested we drive up and he'd be able to answer any Q's we might have. After some very helpful (and appreciated) back and forth, we left with a variety of tacos (chicken, carne asada & carnitas) and a chicken burrito. Everything was exceptional. Coming from California, we are no strangers to Mexican food. This late night trip from stadium to hotel was quite a treat. The combination of taste (most important), quality of ingredients (fresh, even before closing for the night) and portion size (let's be honest, who wants a skimpy taco?) makes it well worth my 5 star review. Great find!

I too have been frequenting this etablishment since 1993. Before that I frequented El Loco's in LA since the mid 80's. This is easily my favorite place for burritos (primarily the Machaca) but everything is outstanding. The food is fresh, fast and they have been consistently putting out great food for years.
