Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I've been here twice, and while the first time around my experience was less than stellar, I gave it a second try and was not disappointed. El Burrito Azteca serves burritos (and a few other things) that check all the boxes I'm looking for in a burrito. TASTE The burritos mix tastes of all the ingredients very well. Each ingredient is well-cooked and you can taste it without it being overwhelming. I especially liked the freshness of the green peppers in the fajita burrito. SPEED In, ordered, and out with takeout in about 7 minutes. They weren't very busy though--the first time I was here they were slammed and it took closer to 12 minutes. Either way, really efficient. PRICE About $5 for a burrito. Can't beat that deal! Also comes with free salsa, limes etc. from their salsa bar. If you're looking for a good speedy Mexican meal, El Burrito Azteca has you covered.

I'm a San Diego native; the love of great taco shop food is in my blood. Unlikely anywhere else I've been in Portland to date-- this is it, and it is truly, truly outstanding. The tacos and burritos and everything else are so, so good. If I could give it six stars, I would. It gets better! The bar is open late and serving food the entire time. The guy who runs the place also runs the bar at night time, and he's super nice, just hangs out and chats it up with the regulars. Great vibe.
(5)Brian S.
I love burritos and this place did not disappoint. I ordered the Chile Relleno burrito made with a home made Chile Relleno. The first thing I noticed was the size. This was a big burrito. The flavors were fantastic and their green sauce was the perfect blend of spice and flavor. I will be back to eat the next time I am in the neighborhood.

No flavor, didn't have any sauces to give out. Woke up in the middle of the night with stomach issues
(1)Lisa M.
Frankly this place is just as good as Por Que Non with no wait and half the price. And the employees are friendlier.

On the way home from a concert the other night, we discovered this place & as it was late, went into the bar section to get some food. It was the only place open nearby & I'm so glad it was! The potato taquitos were FANTASTIC, and the chile relleno burrito was so fresh and flavorful! It did take a while to get service, and then even longer to get our food, BUT I realize that was due to the place being PACKED & there was only one waiter/bartender out (who was doing a great job, considering...). I highly recommend this place - especially as in the bar they have a great selection of authentic Mexican beers as well. I look forward to trying more there soon!!
(5)Brooks M.
freaking awesome! such an odd vibe, decor wise, but they make up for it in authenticity. the food is stellar! I mean, a Chile rellones burrito?! what?! smash factory yo! love it! they bring your food right out to you in person, not by yelling out an order. and when they messed up one of our burritos they fixed it before we could even ask and sent us on our way with the extra one anyway. no wasted food. #adorableportland

I love this place! The owner is so nice and remembers you every time, the guys at the cash register are fast and courteous as well. The Mexican food at this restaurant is my favorite . There's consistency in food quality and consistency in service. I love that I can count on them for that ! I love supporting this business because they deserve to thrive! Delicious food every time. Love my carne asada tacos and burritos from here.
(5)Chris C.
Was craving a burrito and was in the area but completely lucked out here! This place is without a doubt one of my new favorites in Portland. The staff was great and since I've been back three times haven't had a bad meal.
(5)Tori F.
I got a chicken fajita burrito. It was really good. I wish it would have come with some sour cream or salsa. It was extremely clean and everyone was extremely polite. I ordered for carry out and it was ready in minutes. I would definitely eat here again. So good!!
(5)Dan S.
Cheap food at great hours. The Chili Relleno burrito is awesome. Plate of nachos is too much food for me which isn't a bad thing. Basically everything is $6 or under. Awesome little hangout spot with friends. Very friendly service too.
(5)Dawn M.
Service - very friendly Food - delicious, fabulous pork chili Verde Prices - very reasonable Margaritas - cadillac perfection This place is a total find. Our first time and we'll definitely be back!
(5)Jack D.
This place is the bomb! Their salsa is very good. I get an extra tub every time to use over the next couple days! The fish tacos are so good, not overdone with a bunch of batter. The best way to do it is to show up, walk straight into the bar, sit down, throw in your food order and have a pint while you wait. The food is ready when the beer is gone, every time! You KNOW I'll be back time and time again!
(5)Julio A.
LOVE this place! The food is always awesome and the vibe is super nice and easy going. The addition of the bar next door makes it even better. GO SUPPORT THIS AWESOME PLACE!
(5)Melody F.
The service is excellent, just like the food.
(5)Charity K.
I am so happy this local Mexican restaurant is in my neighborhood. Everything I've tried is delicious and they have a ton of vegetarian options. Staff is friendly and efficient and pricing is reasonable. Open early and late - this is a great alternative to fast food!!
(5)Angela P.
I have encountered lines out the door here & clearly some people REALLY love this place based on the reviews. But this southwestern gal just doesn't get it. The fish tacos taste like they are made from Mrs. Paul's fish sticks. The "guacamole" is a pile of pico de gallo with watered down avocado sauce poured on top. The chips taste like the cheapest cardboard chips you might buy in bulk at Costco. The dipping salsa tasted like bleach & was inedible. And finally, neither topping salsa has any heat. It IS inexpensive & maybe the more exotic meats are where it's at (haven't tried). But there are much better tacquerias around.
(2)Maria R.
Cheap, good Mexican food. Fast, kind service, two big tvs for whatever basketball, soccer etc.
(5)Maylene K.
I eat here a lot and with good reason. The food is delicious, made quickly, and served friendly-like. The restaurant is clean, serves beer from the sister bar next door, and attracts quite a few families and take out orders. When I've got a hankering for Mexican or hamburger and fries (no, seriously), I keep it in my hood and dine here. Pro tip: the bar stays open late and serves the same food, yaaay!
(5)Dylan B.
Wow, I can't believe I have lived so close to here for so long without trying it. This is totally one of my new favorite mexican joints in the city. I went in earlier tonight and ordered up a veggie burrito and two chicken tacos. I was hoping to try the lengua, but unfortunately they were sold out. Within minutes of paying the server brought my food to my table (always a nice touch). The veggie burrito was decent. On the smaller size, on par with what you'd get over at Javier's. It did have an unusually large amount of lettuce in it and it did need a generous amount of verde sauce to make it really good, but overall I was satisfied. Chicken tacos were great. At $1.50 each they were fairly reasonable, especially considering the generous amount of meat piled on those doubled tortillas. Topped with fresh pico de gallo and some creamy avocado based sauce. I was pretty satisfied with the more minimal salsa bar they offered. Sure, it doesn't have the wide array of stuff you'd find at the La Sirenita salsa bar, but everything in this one was really top notch. The cilantro and onions tasted freshly chopped, no wilted garbage there. The sliced pickled jalapeños were a great touch too. Very tasty, added the perfect kick to my tacos. I would highly recommend this place to anyone seeking out a cheap, quick mexican meal. Not only is the food good, but the place is far cleaner than most other places in the same price range. I look forward to coming here again. Hopefully they'll have the lengua back soon!
(4)Joe B.
Currently ranking as my favorite burrito in PDX. Good grilled steak, salsas are good, tastes fresh, etc. no kale or spinach tortilla or any of that other BS (burrito silliness:) you find in PDX.
(4)Caitlin S.
I just wanted to note that Boulevard Tacos is now called "El Burrito Azteca" (or something along those lines). And, they now have a BAR attached to their restaurant! I still love their food - great nachos, great burritos (try out the potato burrito - YUM!), and now I love that they have a full bar with multiple televisions, a stellar cooling system for their draft beer, and tasty margaritas. You can order food all night long even though the restaurant section itself closes at 10 p.m. They just opened the bar section up about a week or two ago, and it looks great. I would really recommend trying out the bar section, it is definitely a little more upscale than the restaurant side, but still casual. My boyfriend and I were impressed - it makes us more likely to sit down and eat there instead of ordering take out.
(4)Sam K.
Great place! It's not mind-blowing or anything but it's tasty, authentic, unpretentious Mexican food served in a roomy and clean environment. It's open late and has a bar connected to the restaurant - I love that if I want some nachos and a cocktail at 11 PM on a weeknight I can walk on down here and sate my appetite.
(4)Ana B.
The word Dank comes to mind. Who even says Dank?...Well, this place does that to me. The Tacos, are dank. My rule with taqueria meat is simple. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Lucky for me Boulevard Tacos is not in the business of tom foolery. I've tried most of the meats on the menu have been overall really pleased. Do I think it's local and extremely fresh? Perhaps not but you can't beat the price. Tacos are anywhere from 1-2.50. I normally go for tacos but burritos and tamales are delectable. I was pleasantly surprised by the tamales especially. Oh, and don't forget the salsa bar it really kicks the food up a notch. The decor is lackluster but, who needs it? If you're that offended by the your bland surrounding while you eat you can bring your food to the bar next door which is owned by the same people. If your a sports fan they play all the games with sound which is nice ( Go Blazers! ). They staff is wonderful and are always chatting up the locals which I like, gives it a nice neighborhood feel. Is boulevard tacos the best mexican food in town? No, probably not. But! It is damn good and a great deal so I find myself there at least weekly.

Visiting from Puerto Rico, I'm from Guadalajara and I got to say...their tacos al pastor were very good. you guys work the flavor, it was a good experience overall..I'll recommend one salsa more spicy for real Mexican. We got very good service considering they were about to close..If you're in the area,,,you should definitely try. Very good option
(5)Brittanie M.
I probably owe this place a new visit just to check in. But from my previous visits, nothing really sold me. I have typically ordered a veggie burrito, it's fine, but again, nothing to be impressed about. One time I had nachos and it kept me from going back for a while, chips were not good and no guacamole. Almost made me want to make my own because I don't think I can handle no guacamole on nachos! Service has always been pretty friendly and fast though.

First & possibly only Yelp post, as I'm generally busy enough to justify myself not contributIng to the wealth of technological & social media options available today... However, as I do occasionally consult Yelp for advice, I was shocked and dismayed to see Boulevard given only 3-ish stars. Let me tell you, EVERY time I have been in need for an authentic Mexican food fix (generally once every week or two since moving nearby 6 months ago), the place has a steady line of eager, smiling customers. Please don't let the handful of sub-5 stars contributors sway you towards another choice - the food is tremendous (my faves include the chili rellano burrito and / or anything smothered in the outstanding homemade salsas)! Give Boulevard a try... beyond the fab fare, you'll be amazed at the great quantity and quality for the ridiculously low price.. they could easily be charging a few dollars more on every item. My only hypothesis about the hundreds of "5-star" ratings this place deserves is that they are missing because of the infamous "food coma" bliss being experienced by most of its many customers....!?!
(5)John W.
Staff is friendly. Had the Potato Burrito and it was great. The margaritas aren't bad either. Recently moved to Portland and have been in search for the best burrito in N Portland. This place is definitely on the shortly of places I will try again!
(4)David Z.
Too many other options that offer better...well..everything. I think when these guys booted out the last family which ran this place as a true local mexi joint, their karmic fate was sealed. Seven or so years later, I thought I'd give it a try but lo and behold, they are totally sub par. First off, chaos ville inside meaning, they barely could keep up with the orders and then the food. How much fake guac and sour cream can you slam on nachos or a salad? The answer made me sick. It was if they were covering up something that they did not want me to know what was underneath. The tacos were decent although being this close to por que no, bonita or King...one has to step it up to keep their lease. Good luck guys!
(2)Bill S.
Honestly, if I had to choose one of my all time favorite restaurants for burritos, chile rellenos and tacos - this place would be it. No matter what you get, it's always delicious. There are very few foods I crave but at least once a month probably more like once a week I have got to have a steak burrito at El Burrito or a chile relleno. By the way, the pork tacos are out of sight too!
(5)N P.
Forget wherever you normally eat/drink Mexican food and come to El Burrito Azteca. Outstanding service, bar & food hands down!!!
(5)Paul G.
I have been going to El Burrito Azteca for years and it is absolutely my favorite Mexican joint in NoPo. Looks like a dive but the food is great and the prices are cheap. Check out the fajita burrito or their tacos. Their meat is authentic and tasty, veggies are great too. Chips and salsa are made in house and they rock. They recently bought the bar next door so now you can grab a beer with your meal and enjoy some soccer in Spanish. My only complaint... No lengua.
(4)D M.
This place is great. So glad I discovered it. I like it so much I drive the 15 minutes just to go here rather than a few other Mexican food places that are closer to me. This is authentic Mexican food. I usually get the combination plate. A lot of food for $7. Good quality and very good!
(5)Curt S.
This place is not closed. Ambiance is not great, but the food is quite good, pretty quick, and the servers are friendly. The relleno, as a side, was a nice surprise and the carnitas tacos are tasty. Plus, a family of four can eat there, be satisfied, and pay about $20. You certainly can't beat that with a stick.
(4)Phuong B.
All I know is that this place has cheap tacos. Not the best or even average tacos, but cheap tacos. Other items on their menu failed to impress me as well. Burritos lacked flavor and I lack the ambition to return and eat flavorless Mexican food.
(2)stacey k.
I miss the days in SF where I could choose from 10 taquerias with great, cheap, authentic Mexican food. This place is close. A quick walk from work. Clean and efficient. And a decent veggi burrito. Add guac and sc and its great. House made chips. Yummy enchiladas. My friend loves the tacos with lots if lime. Definitely will frequent this place.
(4)Leslie G.
I have found my new favorite taco place. I went there with my fiance and our son and for 15.75 we got 2 fish tacos, a tostada with chicken added, a kids bean and cheese burrito, a shredded beef taco and three sodas. Great value. The shredded beef taco was the best taco I have ever had. The beef was so tender and flavorful. Everything was fresh and the portions were ample. I do like Porque No ?, but honestly they are over priced and there are places with even better food, like Boulevard Tacos. The service was fast and friendly too. It is a great place for children with a kids menu that has Mexican food as well as a burger and fries for the picky child. The attached bar advertises a Happy Hour. I will be checking that out. I highly recommend this place.
(5)Justin R.
Best burrito in town. Ask for the "Justin" it rocks.
(5)Jill R.
Best tacos in town. Also, my husband would drink quarts of their salsa if he could.
(5)Annie C.
I've been a few times, most recently today. Above average tacos. I usually love fish tacos and this place batters and fries their fish. I don't love it that way, but it was ok. Everything else I've had is pretty good.
(4)Jenni B.
Delicious big burritos and tasty tacos. Their food is pretty fresh as far as I can tell, but don't get the nachos. They were terrible when my friend ordered them. I love this place because it's so close to home and they recently opened the bar that was the Cuckoos Nest. The service is friendly and fast.
(4)Jasmyn M.
Hot damn I love this place. $4.50 for a delicious greasy-but-not-really-that-greasy burrito? Yes please! They are fast, they have parking, and they serve breakfast burritos all day. Friendly dudes always greet me at the register. Clean joint. Consistent food. Cheap. Hubs and I walked out of here with a burrito, 3 tacos, and chips & guac for $10. Score! Only complaint is that they could have better salsa options.
(4)Shane S.
It's been a lot of names, but still my favorite neighborhood haunt. Inexpensive and worth every penny. Get off of your ass and git!! And now with a lounge next door! Can't go wrong!
(5)Sarah C.
love this place. great burritos, fast service, and I always know just what to expect. Thanks guys!!
(4)Chelsa S.
I LOVE this place! I always find myself comparing other Mexican places to this one! Not only is the food good, but they hands down have THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE OF ANYONE!!! The guys who work here aren't just friendly, but they remember their customers! Awesome work you guys!
(5)Patrick L.
This is my go to spot when I don't want to cook. Good food, good prices. Nice bar that seems empty usually - not sure why, I've been a couple of times and its a nice spot with a nice bartender. Staff is glad you came, which is always nice. TV in the dinning room with sports on is cool, but not out of control - you can avoid it if its not your thing. Carne Masada nachos and Aztec tacos are my favorite. BTW, we always cal this place boulevard tacos, which I think a lot of people do- I think it was on the awning or something for a while.
(5)RpwFour F.
Going down hill, AGAIN!! Today we stopped by for four quesadillas to go. Got home and there wasn't enough cheese between them to make one quesadilla. One of them had almost no cheese. HELLO!!! Quesadillas = tortilla and CHEESE!!! I felt ripped off. Had it not been raining I would have driven back there and demanded they remake them.
(1)K M.
I came here with my parents, after my dad raved about his place and their carne asada tacos. We shared 5 tacos, 3 for him and 2 for me, and he had every reason to praise BT's food. The meat was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and they weren't overloaded with raw onions and cilantro. I ordered a medium Horchata and neither me or my dad liked it. The horchata was super spicy! This batch had waaaaaaaaay too much cinnamon and clove in it. My dad started coughing after one sip! But, I wont let one funky batch of Horchata stop me from returning! I will definitely come back the next time I come to Portland.
(4)Carolyn K.
Yummy food in my hood! Would have been nice to have real silverware...the plastic just won't do. The food was yummy and the beer was inexpensive.
(4)E. M.
Next to Grind House coffee and totally lacking any degree of hipster posturing, this place is cheap, fast and townie feeling without feeling like you don't belong there if you're not from the block. N/A beer offerings along with the full bar next door. A notch up from a taco truck but doesn't prioritize the "dining experience"--- a simple utilitarian place with good food and really nice guys running the place.
(5)Paul P.
They rock! Same food as when they were called El Burrito Loco, but you don't get sick and vomit out one end as you d.... out the other now. :) That's a definite plus in my book. Same great salsa, same tacos like you buy at the Taco joints in Tijuana. If you're used to the american excuse for Tacos, go elsewhere. No lettuce & cheese on these, they're real double-corn-tortilla tacos. Great staff too. Here's a tip; Don't be an arse, tip well, and your food will be great. ;)
(4)Kari J.
Yuck! 1. No beer 2. Mushy fish tacos 3. Stale Chips 4. Dirty outside tables Sunday early afternoon we wanted some chips and salsa...We went to Boulevard Taco's...next time we will grab a bag of chips from the store (along with a six pack) make our own salsa.
(1)Troy D.
Just moved into the neighborhood and decided to try out Boulevard Tacos. Overall, impressed. Super cheap, clean, guy working the register was friendly, huge portions, and pretty quick. Great guacamole too. I had the trio fajita plate (shrimp, steak, chicken, fajita veggies, pico, guac, lettuce, tortillas, rice and beans for 7$ And it was enough for 2 meals for me. My roommate has a giant veggie burrito for 4$. Have I had better mexican? yeah, when compared to similar mexican restaurants it is a whole lot less greasy and the meat had less fat/gristle chunks in it. I could have used a bit more seasoning and spice, but they also have a nice salsa/condiment bar. We will be back!
(4)Abraham G.
I like their shredded beef tacos. Would love a couple more options in the menu but haven't been here in a while I didn't even know they sold liquor now I gotta check it out!
(4)Holy-foo' X.
Burrito Loco, we hardly knew thee. Actually, if it's true you are what you eat, than I, like a good many of the denizens of No Po, are forever, chemically bonded to the glory that was, that being the afore-mentioned Burrito Loco. That was when and where I began a long love affair w/the monster burritos, back then costing not even 3 dollars, and now typically surpassing 5 to 7 bucks at most taquerias. Everything changes, only love remains.... The interior @ Boulevard Tacos is actually a significant upgrade; as it was quite dingy in burrito loco for many a year, if you remember keenly. Also, there is still the Burrito Loco on 82nd, by Madison HS, and better yet, it is a drive thru! So all is not lost in the universe. The time is long overdue to let Boulevard Taco have its day in the sun, as well.. The best items on the menu, to my mind, were the steak fajita, chicken fajita burritos, and specialty quesadillas (esp. the chicken w/jamon!). Delicioso..... Boulevard, a hearty Bien Venidos to the neighborhood. Please understand you are trying to fill some pretty big, impressive shoes. Just keep churning out the good stuff, and people will come around to you! Mucho suerte!
(4)Tierney C.
I loved this place before they started serving booze, now I'm obsessed. The guys working the bar are awesome. The nachos are amazing. And Lagunitas IPA on tap.... It's really dangerous that I have to walk past this place on my way home every day.
(5)John M.
The food is good. The service is so bad I'm not going back. I must have been to this place twenty times now and even after all those visits, me being nice each time, I hardly even get a smile out of these people. I'm not asking for much, just acknowledge that you recognize my face!
(1)Lindsay C.
Andrew is a long time devotee of the no-frills goodness of Boulevard Tacos. Nothing fancy, but great quality, well-priced, no wait, consistent, satisfying Mexican. We've brought kids here and they're always happy. Easy parking right behind. Andrew likes the chicken quesadilla and I lean towards the veggie tacos or potato burrito. He says: Ambiance: 4 - Clean and simple. No frills. Value: 5 - Great. Flavor: 4 - Very good. Service: 5 - Excellent! She says: Ambiance: 3 - KISS works for this place. Value: 4 - Great. Flavor: 3 - Good! Service: 5 - Super friendly.
(4)Nopojoe C.
Mediocrity at its best. No,its not expensive, and yes, its clean. However, the quality of the food (I had the fajita combo, my wife the combination plate) was very poor. It lacked taste beyond the 'store tortilla, canned frijoles and boxed rice served with oversalted cheap cuts of meat. Fast Mexican food is not haute cuisine. But many other places in Portland turn out very tasty meals, comparably priced. Perhaps I should sacrifice clean floors for good food. If Blvd Tacos made better food, I could forgive so many other things.
(2)Lee R.
Been coming here since i was a kid, always great service, quick, cheap food, nothing bad to say about this place. loved it since it was burrito loco
(4)Mary S.
If you are looking for inexpensive yet delicious tacos look no further! Boulevard Tacos will not disappoint. Not only do they have amazing food but their service is second to none. I highly recommend them.
(5)Justin T.
I've been here a few times always for the same thing: the potato burrito with chicken. I like the extra starch in the burrito and I don't know, but I think its the only place where you can get that, please correct me if I'm wrong. The serve breakfast burritos, I guess, but when you wake up early and want one its pointless to offer them when you don't open until 10. I wake up hungry and I need to put food in my belly not wait until you open.
(3)Lisa M.
Horchata made from scratch! Tasty cinnamon, vanilla, rice milk, etc...Awesome. I also had a fajita burrito which was loaded with guac, beans, peppers, onions, pico and rice. Nicely toasted shut and easy to eat. A perfect spot for a quick casual dinner or a burrito and horchata to-go. As other yelpers mentioned Very Clean..which is a perk
(5)Kristy R.
why is this place so good?! you would never know from the outside...the salsa haunts my dreams. if you're looking for cheap, authentic mexican - this is the place. rice was bland...there are better things to eat there. we had a burrito, 2 tacos, rice, chips & salsa and 2 cokes for $15...awesome! bonus points for a few outside tables on a busy street corner...great people watching. my new favorite neighborhood spot!
(5)Cheryl G.
The best refried beans I've found in Portland and the tastiest flour tortilla. Their burritos remind me of San Diego and that is a good, good thing.
(4)Dave K.
2 words: carnitas torta.
(4)Chas M.
And I thought I was a little stingy with the stars! This place is clean (rare), cheap, delicious, and staff is very friendly. They even bring the food out to your table, so if you are a fat slob you dont even have to get up and make me sick with your front-butt hanging out of your sweats. What more can you ask for? I go here regularly and get the chimichanga platter. I have had burritos and tacos too (all delicious) but the chimichanga platter fills me up and never lets me down. Viva Boulevard Tacos gringos locos.
(4)Michelle H.
I could easily eat the $1.30 tacos off the floor. It's that clean. Of course, as tempting as floor eating is, I'm not going to. It's almost uncanny the kind of sterile vibe such a place can put off. It's palpable, and it's almost uncomfortable to sit through. It's the absolute antithesis of what a taco shop should be. You know the correlation--the sketchier it looks, the better it's going to taste. Boulevard goes against the grain. It challenges the cleanliness theory and almost wins. They serve up some relatively solid tacos for cheap. I'd like to say the same about the quesadilla, but it was everything you'd expect a super clean taco shop to put out. It made a microwaved quesadilla seem above par. The usual subjects can be found in your taco: chicken, carne asada, carnitas, and pastor. All for $1.30. That's price a taco should be. The pastor was surprisingly delicious, but it helped that it came with only onion and cilantro. Simple ingredients for a great taco. The marinade wasn't as spicy as the menu describes, but it thankfully wasn't salted to high hell. I'd even say it beats Bonita in the pastor department. I was thoroughly disappointed with the carne asada, however. The texture was decent. I didn't find any gristly pieces but it was some of the blandest asada I've had in awhile. I like that guacamole comes standard on the tacos, but it was a disappointment. It wasn't bad, but it definitely didn't knock any socks off. It was saucier than I like, too. Guac also comes standard on the burritos, but so do rice and beans. Blasphemy. $4-4.25 for a burrito is pretty reasonable, but I just wasn't feeling it. In another random turn of events, their green salsa is actually hotter than their red. You don't find that too often. Too bad the green isn't all that spicy either. It didn't stop me from pouring it all over, though. The location from the house is top notch, but King Burrito isn't too much further away. KB dances circles around the quality of food here. Cheap tacos are a draw, but mediocre quality? Meh. Powering through a taco or three when I'm starving and only want to spend $4? Sure. When I'm fiending on some quality stuff? You'll find me at King Burrito of Javier's.

Another installment in my quest for good cheap Meximeals..... 1. Clean, very clean. Sparkling clean!!!! 2. Cheap, $4.25 for the Pastor Burrito. 3. Lean, very lean on the meat. I kept thinking of that Wendy's ad. The plentiful rice and refried beans were bland. Not recommended, drive a few block to Lombard and eat at La Superior or King Burrito.

These boys serve up affordable authentic mexican with friendliness and expedience. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is that they sometimes confuse my order, omitting special requests (i.e. no cheese) or varying the ingredients some. The newly opened bar section is very cool and they serve food, too!

Being from California I generally find that I don't care much for the Mexican food in the NW. What won me over about this place was that they serve potato taquitos. Something I have not seen up here since leaving Cali. BLVD. Tacos is reasonabley priced, and the portions that I have been served have been rather generous. I always get service with a smile and often friendly conversation. This place is clean very clean, which is another reason I am fan.

this place is in my neighborhood and i've gotten varios things here over the years with various results. some of the burritos are OK. not spectacular. the tacos are mediocre. the chicken tacos are OK.. their meats aren't the highest quality. you get what you pay for. the chicken nachos are good... the carne asada nachos made me sick out both ends. i'm done with this place after my most recent experience. never had issue like this there until today. This place has been slowly declining and it was never really anything but mediocre to begin with. sadly. there are better spots in town anyways.. more authentic with better quality ingredients. good bye boulevard tacos! you're dead to me.

This food is pretty tasty, large portions, and a good value. But don't be in a rush they are very slow even if its not that busy. We usually call ahead and the wait can be very frustrating. Tonight they told me 10 minutes on the phone, I showed up 20 minutes later (knowing how slow they can be), and had to wait over 15 additional minutes. Its hard for me to understand why the guy tells you 10 if it ends up taking 40. This has happened to me multiple times, and it was even worse one time when I showed up and there was a long line. I only go there now if I have nothing else planned after my meal.

I love this place. Very casual, cheap and yummy! You can get good basic mexican food for a great price... we frequent this place! It's a good place for a quick meal! Definitely recommend if you're looking for a casual meal. The owners/employees are really nice, too.
(4)Noah B.
The tacos are great and I'm especially a fan of the Chile Relleno Burrito. The price is right and the restaurant is clean and decorated in the perfect taqueria style. The staff is friendly and we can't wait to go back to our neighborhood taco place.

The place is ok for a cheap lunch. Food is not authentic, tortillas are store bought. That's all well. I would recommend the music be turned down and maybe play some different type of music. The trombone music is overwhelming.

I was worried I would miss Burrito Loco when they got shut down until I found out a new taco shop was going to go in in the same location. Even with all the controversy, the new space is bigger and much cleaner, and the tacos started off much, much better than Loco's. I think they slipped a little since their opening, but it's still a solid taco shop, nothing special though. That said I live right by it and eat there all the time. The fajitas burrito is awesome, as is the veggie torta (ask for them to put the grilled veggies on instead of meat). But the horchata sucks, real bad.
(4)MJ L.
Bad vibe and bad food. Even the horchata was bad. Can this be? I don't feel so good.

Ok; cheap; close

I like Boulevard Tacos (now burrito azteca, i believe). The menu has the basics on it, it is convenient, with friendly and exceptionally quick service. I like that I am supporting a local business and that I can get filling food quick. It is certainly not gourmet food, but that is what makes it so easy to frequent.

i think ive had a veggie potatoe burrito every day for the last month from this place. i like it alot. i also like being able to watch champions league and europa matches while filling my face during the week.
(5)Sophie M.
I ended up there because i was totally lost in that neck of the woods and some guy who was helping me out with directions suggested for me to try this place out instead of La Bonita.Carnitas was full of chunks of solid fat, the taste and etc mediocre. The dude at La Bonita was totally trippin on the phone because he got me lost a couple times.
(2)Chris S.
solid Mexican food....nothing special. Clean, cheap, and close to home so we go here every now and again.
(3)Kizzie S.
Carne Asada Tacos are the BEST in town...Very Clean, friendly people that work there, and fast. Yes...Go there, I told you so.
(4)Suzanne O.
The place is clean and cheap. My carnitas burrito--not so great...Like most Portland Mexican restaurants, they call braised pork carnitas. Simply ain't so. Will I go back? Yes, because I'm burrito-deprived and will be trying the fajitas style chicken (I'm hoping it's similar to La Salsa or other chains of that nature). The tacos look good, too. Bottom line--if you're jonesin for Mexican and live in the neighborhood, this place is worth trying. If you want the best Mexican food that you'll ever eat, don't expect it here.
(3)Staci W.
Boulevard Tacos is authentic. Their chile relleno burrito is the best one that I have had. If you are looking for a good, cheap, burrito, this is the place to go.
(4)Ian H.
ok it comes down to this, the tacos are 1.30 a pop.. and they are pretty damn good, if you want to pay for over-priced gringo tacos with atmosphere i suggest you strap your kids into your bikecart and ride down to por que no (not to completely slam them, they're not bad) but anyway, point is quit whinging.. salsas were spicy and the tacos were pretty authenic-y, I'll def be back
(4)Kristina K.
What happened to the carnitas? Went for lunch today and picked up a carnitas burrito, but the carnitas was so salty it's given me a headache. I could barely take another bite because it was so heavily seasoned, but I was so hungry. Please lay off the seasoning, El Burrito Azteca.

A couple shocking things here: I can't believe I found a cool lunch place in The PDX not overrun with pretentious hipsterness. This place is the genuine deal of a taqueria. Down to the ultra-low buck furniture and abundance of regular working class people and families enjoying the food. No 30 somethings with big 'ole Al-Qaeda beards wearing custom tailored designer hemp sweaters. Burritos are outstanding. Zero indication of blandness. Maybe the best I've had in the PNW. Chips were so-so, but salsa bar excellent. Service is very quick. Parking easy. A good coffee stand next door. Don't get a triple Americano after having a burrito stuffed with jalapenos accompanied by six helpings of habanero salsa though. Especially before a long I5 hike or a critical job interview. Sometimes the most obvious things are overlooked. They have micro-brew on tap too. And NO PBR (bite me Portlandians)!! Visit here. NOW!
(4)Katie D.
Best Mexican food in Portland. They are super affordable and delicious!
(5)Dionne V.
Tacos is the way to go! If you have time for a margarita or a beer to wash them down even better!
(4)Haley O.
I absolutely love this place. It's no frills, but clean and friendly. I'm from Texas, so I'm picky about my Mexican food and these guys do not disappoint. They have great beer on tap, a full but simple menu, and sports on 3 different big screen TVs. The owner is often there working hard and talking with customers. If you live in NoPo and haven't enjoyed a carnitas taco, chips and salsa, and an IPA here, you're missing out!
(5)Ahran J.
Grounded beef taco was amazing. The marinate was done perfectly, creamy, and juicy. Fish taco can improve, though. Buy overall 4 stars for the price. About 1.60 for a taco .

Boulevard Tacos came heavily recommended to me by the Mexican facilities manager at my previous job. He said it's a great place to grab a burrito, a beer and watch the game. I had previously sampled his wife's delicious cooking, so I knew he had something good & authentic to compare it to. I wasn't sure what game he was referring to at the time, but I later found out he meant soccer, specifically Chivas. All this favorable talk gave Boulevard Tacos credibility in my book, but I was never particularly motivated to go there because of it's proximity to my go-to Mexican joint, Javier's. Finally, I went on Sunday morning for hungover breakfast and now I feel pretty dumb for not going sooner. I would never get the tacos at Javier's because I believe $2 is pricey for a classic taco, but at Blvd., they are reasonably priced at around $1.50. They aren't exactly traditional tacos, but they aren't too off the beaten path either. The Azteca taco is $1.50 and comes with pico de gallo, cheese and guacamole. They have a fancier taco called a fajitas taco which comes with grilled veggies, cheese and guacamole for $1.75. Their meat selection is pretty basic too, no brain or cheek, but there is tongue. I ordered 2 Azteca tacos, asada and carnitas. 1 fajitas taco, pollo, and 1 pastor taco. The Azteca tacos did not come with cheese although it's stated on menu and the guacamole is more of an avocado sauce you'll find in the salsa bar of a lot of taquerias. The pico de gallo was a nice touch, but I'd rather just have it in the salsa bar so I can adjust the amount myself. Nitpicking aside, both meats were very good and the tacos were fully loaded. The pastor taco was the most traditional of the tacos, 2 tortillas, meat, cilantro and onion. Unfortunately it was also a little disappointing- the pastor lacked in flavor and was missing the gallo and guac sauce. The stand out was definitely the fajita taco. Although more expensive, it was loaded with cheese and veggies that were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Also the chicken was very juicy and flavorful which is a rarity. I almost never get pollo tacos as usually they're dry or rubbery. Of all the meats I had, this was my favorite. They have an extensive vegetarian menu as well. My veg room mate says their veggie burrito has too much lettuce so he opted for the veggie nachos which were loaded high and only $5 The salsa bar could use a definite beefing up though. The verde sauce is more spicy than flavorful and they need some pickled onions and carrots. However, the cilantro and onions were fresh and bountiful. Being open late with reasonably priced tacos and having a late night happy hour is going to make Boulevard Tacos a new addition to my repertoire. I can't wait to grab some tacos, a beer, and watch the game in their spartan bar!

I am a big fan of the taco salad. My Dad loves the Azteca burrito. I love other Mexican food joints in Portland, but here's where this one stands out to me. Their stuff is always fresh! I have never ordered a salad and had soggy lettuce or vegetables. Do you have any idea how nice that is? Never. Not once. My dad always comments on how the burritos aren't greasy to hold. That's amazing. They are a very nice staff and consistent with their food. Therefore I am a repeat customer. My whole family is repeat customers.

Affordable and tasty. House margaritas were surprisingly good and not just a glass of sweet n sour. We sat at the bar and had quick, friendly service.

I drive by this place all the time, and I'm originally from SoCal, so I knew I'd be craving Mexican food one day. Finally had the chance to try it out yesterday and boy I was in heaven! Ugh my mouth is drooling from the memories. The prices weren't to shabby either, cheap enough for a lowly college student (me). Had the carnitas combination plate (came with tortillas, rice, beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, little bit of chips, and there was supposedly guacamole included but I didn't see it *sad face*) and this stuff was great. The plate was a lot bigger than expected (you can make 6 tacos and still have extra) so I definitely couldn't finish it all, but I ate as much as possible since it was so delicious. Their green and red sauces are in a refrigerator to keep fresh, which I thought was super neat, plus they both tasted great. I would definitely classify this in the authentic Mexican food category. The entire establishment was very well kept and clean, there was another room that I assume was a bar because there was a 21+ sign. There are table to eat inside or outside, and a TV to watch whatever. They have a good music selection going on. Also if you're afraid that you might have to speak Spanish, don't even worry. The employees may be Latino but they can understand you perfectly :) so go and get some food!! I would definitely recommend this to anyone, I'm going back soon so I can try their horchata lol :)

Best Mexican food in Portland! Lots of vegetarian options, my favorite being the veggie potato burrito and the potato taquitos. Their chips and salsa are the best. Always super friendly service. Love this place.
(5)Kelsey R.
This place is my second home- I eat meals here that much. Being from Los Angeles, it's hard to find good tacos in Portland. This place delivers. Not the most authentic Mexican spot in Portland but I'm glad they have cheese on the menu! I usually get the combination plate because you gets to make you're own tacos. They're enough for two meals for me. The service is great and Alex is such a nice guy! After a rough day I look forward to seeing everyone because they are so hospitable! Burritos and tacos are good too and cheap. Service is FAST. Happy hour almost all day and all day Sunday with strong margaritas. I love this place!

This place appears to cater to U of P students, but if you have a pallette refined past TV dinners and shelf stable ramen, you might want to forgo El Burrito Azteca. Speaking of TV dinners, my enchiladas were microwaved tonight - obvious by the crusty edges and splatter on my paper plate. Which leads me to my final complaint: You're a brick-and-mortar business and only use disposable plates and utensils? Try harder.

Great food. Excellent EXCELLENT service. Friendly staff and owner. The bar is really a hidden gem. Very unassuming from the exterior. Great place to watch sports. Visit once, talk to the owner and you will be sold.

This place is actually called -BURRITO AZTEC- A workmate bought me lunch here and I was very pleased to be introduced to this place. I'd driven by, I don't know how many times (didn't stand out to me I guess) Casual, Inexpensive, Quick, I ate the Azteca Burrito ---consistent good flavor, huge. I did need to add some hot sauce. Cute bar attached, used to be the Cuckoo's Nest. Very updated, modern, happy hour 3-6. I thought the quality and hospitality were good and I would return
(4)Rafael R.
I have a really high bar for Mexican food and this place really surpassed my expectations. I then chimichanga plate was amazing. I will definitely be back whenever I am in town!
(5)J B.
Good deal on tasty tacos! Huge meaty burritos. Beer. Place is pleasant and clean.
(4)Michael L.
Cheap burrito spot with plentiful portions. Could be a bit spicier but most Mexican food places in Oregon are milder than California.
(5)Bobby M.
Slow service, Ok food. I dont think the food is anything special and the service is horrible! I spent 20 minutes watching as my partially made margarita sat just out of reach and the bartender did everything but finish making it. My food arrived and my drink stood unfinished. When I mentioned this to the batender he didnt seem to know whether to be confused or offended. OVER-RATED!! There are better mexican places in Portland that know what they are doing.

I've been coming to this location for 23 years. It was el burrito loco on my first visit at age 14. It has since changed hands and names at least once or twice. Mario has stepped it up. I live in beaverton, but make my way in frequently!
(5)Brandon B.
realllly good tacos especially the carne asada. tacos are only $1.50...needless to say I bought 10.
(5)Nicole P.
My partner got food poisoning after eating a steak burrito from here. We were long time customers, but this is totally uncool.
(1)Stephanie A.
The owner (Mario) opened a bar next door, now you can get great food, drinks and service at bargain prices. It's become a weekly tradition to visit, I highly recommend the chips & salsa to start, a mojito or margarita followed by a fajita burrito!!! Yumm! The quesadillas are great to and the salads, my BF loves the tacos. You can't miss here, check it out and don't let the exterior fool you it's clean and crisp on the inside.
(5)Krystal F.
My favorite neighborhood Mexican joint! The staff is always really nice and the food is always prompt to come out. My favorite is the chile relleno burrito. They have a bar side now which is perfect for late night to go orders on the weekends.
