Bombay Express is the best fast Indian Food I have ever had. I like their Indian sandwich, they place a couple of scoops of salads of your choice along with some tandoori chicken on top of a piece of naan. It is really good. I also think they have the most flavorful Tandoori chicken around. I eat here when I go to Washington Square.

I'm a former employee of Bombay Express. I tell people not to eat there because of how dirty the kitchen is. The owners have no concerns about health and will leave partially cooked meat out at room temperature for hours. I was constantly reminding coworkers to wash their hands and the utensils. If tongs fell on the floor, they would stick them straight back in the food. One set of tongs was often used to pick up garbage. The food is never thrown away at night and is simply kept until it sells, no matter how old it is. A large number of items are microwaved and everything is made in advance and kept in the fridge to be reheated later. Nothing is fresh. The boss keeps employees tips and often underpays people. Many items on the menu have a flexible price depending on how much the server likes the customer. The boss told me on several occasions to charge Arab people extra. I'm planning to report this place to necessary authorities for health code violations but I'd recommend everyone steer clear.

The butter chicken and stuffed parata are my go-to's! Everything that I have tried here has been so light yet packed with flavor! For mall food I'm always impressed!! Customer service is hit and miss... But again it's mall food!! I will be back!!

My boyfriend and l decided to eat here after some shopping. The guy who was there was great and extremely helpful. It was my first time trying Indian food so I had no idea what to expect. He let us sample almost everything there. Lol. All the samples we tried were tasty. The spinach and chicken was my favorite and the potato filled pastry thing... I forgot what they're called were delicious. We definitely will come back.

They sell halal chicken, have delicious food and good serving sizes! I got their butter chicken and peanut chicken, yum!

I love their food! The only reason they aren't getting five stars is because of their customer service. Although they aren't mean, they're slow and don't seem to care very much. Their food - I love their rice bowls, its the perfect lunch. Their combo plates don't appeal as much, their side dishes are cold and relatively meh. The vegetarian samosas are unbelievable. They take a few minutes (they fry them when you order) but are worth the wait.

Bombay Express in the food court at Washington Square is the only Indian fast food place I can think of. So, when I want fast and cheap tandoori chicken and some tasty curry, that's my only option. . .and it's a pretty good option. My quick dinner in the mall tonight was very satisfying, and it was only $6.95. My tandoori chicken was tender and moist. Saffron rice covered with curry sauce that had just the right amount of spiciness (for me) and mixed vegetables in masala sauce were my two side dishes. Everything always tastes good there, which is why I've gone there several times. My only complaint is the inconsistency in portion sizes from visit to visit. The amount of food you get does vary a LOT depending on the person working the counter and dishing it up. I've gotten huge portions there sometimes, and small ones other times. For best results, I smile a lot and am really friendly to the person at the counter. (I guess that worked tonight because my plate was really loaded.)

So good! Great service highly recommend! The staff was very friendly and they had me sample a bunch of different things. Som things twice! The food was delicious, it was more like american Indian which I like since I'm American and have no taste buds. I would recommend it!

Two words on why they get the one star. Food Poisoning. They must leave their chicken out a long time. Also the service is horrible. I typically don't care but this is on another level of bad.

Yummy! If you eat at the mall a lot, it's nice to have some options other than the regular old subway, sonic, and panda express. The peanut chicken here is divine! And their whole wheat naan is also great. Definitely would recommend this meal to anyone!

I literally drove 20 minutes to the mall JUST for this place. We ordered quite a bit of food and they always hook it up with extra free food. DELICIOUS! You can sample anything before you decide. I love this place.

Change of owners recently and it's obvious by how small the portions are now. They used to be much better. Overall the food is still good and will continue to eat here.

Kind of new to India food but really love the taste of yellow curry. Had the chicken masala rice bowl and it was very flavorful! I added some Indian bread to the order to dip into the rice bowl. This bread was not good, I've had a lot better at other Indian establishments.

I am a fan of Indian food. I know it scares the life out of my sister, she is one of those people if she can't identify the meat, she isn't eating it. However, the flavor of this fast food Indian is pretty good. I love the chicken and spinach over rice. The tandoori is a good choice, as well. They cook the naan bread daily and we've been lucky enough to see it coming straight out of the oven, get cut and put on our tray. My son ordered an item, I can't remember the name and it was new for him, but it was on display. It was naan like bread stuffed with a spicy potato mixture. Not the mimosa. It takes about 4 minutes to cook, but we stood there and watched him make it while we waited. This was more comforting than watching a basket of frozen fries being dropped. The price is reasonable and the salads are always fresh. I am not a fan of food court food, but will actually drive out to Washington Square just for this lunch.

For mall food this place is pretty darn good. I love Indian food and everything at Bombay Express that I have tasted has been decent. FAVES: Chicken & Spinich, Peanut Chicken OK: Tandoori Chicken (it was a bit on the dry side) My recommendation is to get the 2 item combo and try out some different choices. It's less than $7 and more than enough food. You get to choose 2 veggie sides...my go-to is always the cabbage slaw and potato salad. Their Naan bread is just so-so. Staff is pretty friendly but sometimes hard to understand. Overall good meal if you find yourself at WA Square.

Gross!

I just ate here and was very unimpressed. They use a weird yellow rice that tastes like it's from uncle ben's. The naan is not great, definitely store bought. The masala was very underwhelming. The best item was the chicken vindaloo but even that was mediocre at best. Stay away!
(1)Kir S.
the only reason i'm giving this 3 stars is due to my 4 yr old not wanting to eat it. I love all kinds of food, and their spinach curry is delicious. If you want a little spice try the lamb! a piece of naan, ask for some extra sauce and you'll be good to go!

Bombay Express is what it is: a fast food Indian food restaurant. For being precisely this, it's wonderfully delicious. If you've bummed around the thousands of malls (or hundreds?) in the U.S., you've no doubt seen a Bombay Express in a food court. This is Indian food that can be classified as fast food. Now, this might freak you out a little. But don't let that deter you from trying: Bombay Express offers some fantastic Indian food at a very surprisingly nice price. Just like every other kind of food court offering, you can get a choice of having a selected meal or a "combo plate" that you can choose what main entree(s) you wish along with a side (or two). Unlike just about every Indian food place you'll go, the price will be food court-type pricing - about six bucks or so will get you a nice plate of hot Indian food. I'm a chicken tikka masala fiend, so I more often than not go for that. And Bombay Express really delivers with masala that's thick and has some spice to it and chicken that's tender. The naan they offer is much sweeter than the usual variety you'll typically receive at other Indian food restaurants. It acts as a perfect 'dipper' for the masala. The rice is very tasty as well, something I would normally point out with Indian restaurants. A HUGE standout that you need to try is their samosas. You'll order it and will have to come back after they get done deep frying it (about four minutes). They're simply awesome! So there it is. Bombay Express is fast food Indian. It's delicious, it's affordable and it's the place to go if you're in the mood for some quick Indian food that won't put a huge charge on your debit card.

I wish if there was a rating less that one star. While browsing through some of the shops at Washington square mall,i and my friend had a thought of trying at Bombay express.I ordered a chicken biryani which is a famous recipe down in India. While i got the order it seemed to me like chicken mixed with rice and water. So when i complained about the dish, some guy over there said that he cook's the dish in that way and all american's are eating it from the past 10 yrs.He said that if i don't like i can throw that in the garbage. That asshole didn't even have the courtesy to ask for another dish or give a refund. The worst experience in Portland.Had i waited for another 10 more mile's i would have gone to swagat ,beaverton.

Decided to get a quick meal in the mall. I ordered the vegetable samosa and Chicken tandoori sandwich which was delicious. Not bad for a food court meal
(3)Matt G.
After feigning a heart attack to get the attention of the two employees working the counter, I ordered the vegetable masala. It literally contained canned peas, carrots, and corn. I'm pretty sure corn is not even a part of Indian cuisine. I was embarassed for this place. Not authentic, not fresh, not good.

Very disappointed. Used to look forward to going there as they had the best food in the pavilion but the last few times have not been good at all. On my last visit the Asian proprietor didn't greet us, looked thoroughly bored and served me chicken makhani instead of chicken curry. Won't be going back.

this is the best place besides the cheesecake factory to eat in the mall and its extremely cheap for all the food they give you

Bombay Express is a fast food outlet for Indian food at the Washington Square Mall. If you ask me the food over here is either plain average or barely palatable. Yet, I used to stop by them on occasion when I am at this mall, given my soft corner for Indian food. However, I don't think I'll be spending my money over here anymore. On our most recent visit to the mall, we stopped by Bombay Express to have some tea. It was the most pathetic tea I have had in a long long time. It was so bad that we just threw it in the trash after taking a couple of sips. Dirty brown lukewarm water in the name of tea. An absolute disgrace.
