High quality, high tech LED beer menu that reports keg volume! They don't have food, but the Mexican burrito restaurant next door delivers.

Let me draw you a picture of perfect Portlandia nerdy date which involves these following steps: * BeEeeEErrRR consumption at Bailey's Taproom. 10 oz glass is only $2.50 and it will make your date HoPPieR (get it? get it?). * Get a throwdown of Connect Four board game going with your date. Beers + connect 4 = LUV. * Enjoy the taste of awesome beers from Bailey's, laughs with your date (don't laugh at your date), and make your date laugh = perfect date. Only in Portland, BeEEEeeEr can make a perfect date :).

It's fun, it's hip, and it's right downtown. I'm not really a beer snob but this place has got it going on. I like how they display all the current beer selections on the electronic screen so you can really see what you're getting. It's pretty busy on the weekends and seating can be a challenge, but if you go anytime after 10pm it the bigger crowds seem to thin out. I also appreciate that Bailey's has a wide selection of beers from all different breweries from all over the country instead of the typical "brewery feel" where you are ordering different beers all made by the same place. Since the beers change I never remember what I've had but they've all been super! Remember, I said I'm not a beer snob so don't judge. Go to Bailey's, it's fun!

Really enjoyed Bailey's Taproom, it was the laid back beer 'bar' I was looking for. Great selection of brews, prices were also very good. Modern minimal interior with some bar seating, otherwise lots of chairs and comfy seating for chilling. This seems like the kinda place to unwind after work with a frosty pint.

I have been back to Bailey's numerous times I have to update my review to 5-stars. The beer selection here is fantastic. The owner Geoff is usually working the bar and he is a chill cat. The seating is not cramped in, and there's plenty of corners to hide in. Free wi-fi seals the deal. The only downside is no food... but you can bring in whatever you want. I still can't even deduct a star for that simply because this guy does NOT f*ck around or compromise in any way when it comes to the beers, he knows what he is doing, and the prices are more than reasonable for what you are getting. Love this place.

Excellent find in Portland. For any Vancouverites, Bailey's Taproom kind of reminds me of Alibi Room. I highly recommend the $7.50 beery tasting trays where you get 5x 5oz tasters of your choice. Options are from local micro-breweries in Oregon, Washington, California and the like. Loved the atmosphere though I was there in the early evening, so didn't get the whole night vibe, but I bet it was good.

Beer, beer, beer, beer. I love beer. Jumped off the MAX at Pioneer Square and hoofed it up (down?) to Bailey's Taproom. I've been wanting to check this place out for a while. Pretty crowded room for a Thursday evening. Good thing I was alone. I found one empty stool at the end of the bar. Open ceiling makes for a very noisy room. I'm old and grouchy and the din was making me grouchier. Barkeep slapped a beer menu down in front of me. Oh, yeah, that's a nice list of fine, premium craft brew. I looked for the beer on tap with the most hefty ABV. Mad River John Barleycorn. I had to wait for a clean snifter. No big. I didn't have anything else going on. GF is in LA for the week. Waiting for my beer gave me an opportunity to peruse the room. Nice crowd. Most of the patrons appeared to be older, professional folk like me. More dudes than dudettes. Noisy. Dang, I'd hate to try to carry on a conversation in Bailey's Taproom, but I wasn't there to talk. I have no problem being a solitary drinker. I hooked up my Droid to the free WiFi and browsed the interwebs while I sipped my tasty, tasty beer. I finished beer # 1 and ordered another: Golden Valley Black Panther Imperial Stout. What a sour brew! Awesome. Pitch, pitch black with a nice brown head. ABV? 8.7. Nice. I really like this place. I'm definitely going to return with my daughter's BF for some manly beer-fueled bonding. Not too far from the MAX. I'll be making many hop-off stops in the future.

Here's the amazing thing about Bailey's Taproom. Look down the list of beers on tap. Saisons, Trippels, Sours, IPAs, Labmics... everything your beery heart could want; beers from the world over. But then take a closer look. I think you'll find that out of the 15 - 20 or so beers on tap, 90% of them are from the Pacific NW. The other 10% are from Idaho, Colorado, and maybe Minnesota. What I'm trying to say is that Bailey's breaks it down for you. It lets you know that all you need is right in front of you. "There's no place like home," sayeth Dorothy, while tapping her heels. If she drank a little more, Bailey's would have been her primary tap.

  • Tierney C.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. There is one guy who is always working Monday-Thursday. I come in regularly and he started recommending hoppy IPAs, which is what i apparently always order. I only know what I like, but now I know that what I like is hoppy IPAs. A+ on customer service and you cannot beat the diversity of beer selection. I will be a loyal customer forever.

I'm surprised I haven't written a review for Bailey's yet. I should have done it after we went there for the first time. It's not often that we venture around downtown but when we do I try to make a stop at Bailey's happen. Their beers are all on a scale and posted digitally on a large monitor to display the beers on tap, type of beer, how much is left and it also shows the foursquare checkins as well. They usually have a beer on nitro and a cask going also. You can't not go here if you are down there. If you love beer, GOOD beer, then you will love bailey's.

High tech and down to earth, Bailey's Taproom is one of the best bars I've ever been to! A great selection of microbrews both from the local area and around the state. The good taste displayed on the tap handles is explained by the knowledgeable, and personal bartenders, who were quick to help us and willing to offer recommendations even though the house was packed. For the nerd in you, the digital menu is sure to be a delight. The board displays the name, location and ABV of every beer as well as the type of glass it comes in and the real time level of the keg so you know what to order before it runs out. The crowd at Bailey's is great as well. The young, local patrons contribute to a fun, lively atmosphere unhindered by any crotchety regulars like you'd found at other bars. Although they don't serve food at Bailey's, Santeria, the great Mexican restaurant across the street, is happy to deliver to your table. You'll probably find a menu lying around Bailey's that you can use to call in an order of ceviche (amazing!) or a burrito. Bottom line is...this place is awesome!

  • Adam M.

Best spot to grab a beer downtown. Bailey's features 20 specialty rotating taps - not as many as Henry's, but much better quality. The beer prices are all what I would consider fair, and most beers are available in two sizes. The taproom doesn't serve food, but you can order from the Mexican restaurant across the street and have it brought over (just make sure you have cash on hand).

  • Nate M.

This place is simple, and thus my review is simple out of respect for the perfect simplicity of Bailey's tap room. Fantastic beers. Reasonable prices. Small beer list, but I believe it rotates often. Clean and spacious facility. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Games and literature. Great place for a true beer lover.

Not bad! I feel bad writing this one. I see most reviews are 5 or 4 star. When I happened upon this place, it was fairly close to closing (maybe 15 or 20 minutes away), and the guy at the till didn't seem that interested in serving. He recommended a couple beers, one for my friend and I, mine was fine, she didn't think it matched what she asked for at all. I'm going to return here next time I'm in Portland, and hopefully I'll have a better time next time!

It was our first weekend in PDX, we asked a cool looking dude at Whole Foods which bars we should check out. He said, Go to Bailey's! And we did, again and again. I love the beers, I love Mr. Curly Cue that reminds me of Seth Rogen. I love me a brown ale, they have multiples. I love that it's happy hour all the time, a metric pint (not no crappy american pint!) full half liter for $4.50. Delish, every time. Yelp asks which are the best nights, choose 3. Well, if beer wasn't so detrimental to my waistline, I would choose 7. I wonder if they would let some restaurants deliver here now and then - some non-food pubs have done this before. They had deals with local restaurants for exclusive nights - Taco Tuesdays, Pizza Fridays, Curry Mondays?

I've walked by this place several times on my way to the Outdoor Store or Mary's but never stopped in for a drink. I was craving a good beer after work on Friday so I dragged a buddy of mine with me to check it out. The first thing I notice after walking in was the high tech reader board displaying their draft beers. It's a big screen monitor directly behind the main bar that colorfully displays each beer and its price. The rest of the décor was rustic but modern. Unfinished brick wall, exposed duct work, wooden chairs, tables and bar all contributed to an open, inviting atmosphere. The place was busy when we arrived. There was on a small table on the far side of the room near the glass wall open. We quickly grabbed it. I went up to order while my friend held down the seat. I like slightly dark golden amber ales. I picked one what looked promising. I can't remember the name. I wish I had written it down since it's gone now. It was something like Old Man's Dog Ale. I ordered a pint which in hindsight was a mistake. I'll explain that later. The beer was fantastic, dark golden brown in color, smooth taste with a slightly sweet finish. It was exactly what I was searching for. My buddy ordered a think, chewy porter. A few minutes later seats opened at the right side bar so we moved up. There was much more leg room and bar surface there than the cramped table we were sitting at. I quizzed one of the barkeeps about the different sizes of glasses and their pricing structure. They serve beer in many ways: the standby pint, the half pint, the 12 oz. glass, sample glasses and last, and most unusual, the Growler. The Growler looks like a moonshine bottle. They fill it with your favorite beer, seal it up and send it home with you. How cool is that. About this time my pint was running low which had me looking around for a replacement. I decided to be a little adventurous. I picked a smoked blonde ale (again I didn't write it down, damn). This sounded good but the smoky flavor was overpowering. Great concept but they needed to be a lot more subtle. Smoking anything is an art and must be done carefully. As I said earlier, I ordered a pint of the first beer. I wish now that I'd ordered a sampler or half pints. I left wanting to sample more of the offerings. With 21 beers on tap and another 50 or so in bottles, I felt like I'd eaten a salad at a buffet. Bottom line: Service: *** Ambiance: **** Beer: ***** Price: *** 3.75 round up to 4 stars.

You're thirsty and you want a good beer but not anything to eat. This is the place. The beer flights are $7.50, and they have $2.50 10 oz size beers which we don't have where I'm from. I would say 80% of the beers are from Portland, some Seattle and Southern CA. There is no food available, but there's a mexican place right across Pine that is open late and will actually bring the food to the bar if you phone your order in. Aside from your ever growing gut, this place is as good as it gets!

This is a really great place. Lots of beer choices and serious knowledge of beer types and tastes. The LCD panel board of what is on tap, how much is left along with social media integration is awesome and a huge part of this operation. The bar was 100 percent full and bustling with hipsters (The dream is alive in Portland). We tried the Ghost Chili beer among many other tap and bottled beer.. not for the faint of heart, but tasty and HOT HOT HOT.

A good customer service (especially Ryan- knows what to recommend), a great selection of beers, great ambiance and the best part of all: They have digital pour: it's this crazy interface where you can view the kegs just tapped, running low and adequate in supply. There's a running feed of untapped, Twitter and what available by the bottle, crowler and growler. Also they list what's hoppy and always have two ciders and a nitro beer on tap. Best bar ever for after work. Check to the left of the entrance for menus for the kick ass Mexican restaurant across the way- they don't serve food but they allow outside food from Santeria. The service isn't as good at Santeria but they deliver the food after you order and I highly recommend 'When pigs Fly'.

When we came to Portland, I was looking around at good bars to drink good local beer. I am so glad I found Bailey's. This place was great. So great, we came back a few times just to make it through their beer menu. The bar had a great chill vibe with an amazing beer selection. The beer menu was pretty cool too because it allowed you to view when the keg was tapped and how much was left in the keg. That way you can decide if you should start with something you want where there isn't much of the beer left. Please keep in mind that this bar does not have food but apparently you could order some tacos or something across the street and they would bring it over to you while you sit and enjoy your beverage. If you are in Portland, you definitely need to put this on your must stop list for awesome beer.

A server from Dechutes recommended this place to me on my first night visiting Portland, and I thiught "why not!! It's a local's suggestion!" He was right!! This place is pretty awesome! I LOVE the fact that I can try multiple beers in different sizes. When there is a lot of beer on the menu, you sometimes want 5 different choices but don't wanna get 12 oz each and wake up hungover the next day. It was great that they had tasting-sized portions! The beers that I had were pretty good and the service was always on point. As a traveling college student, I was trying to be frugal with my spending and the prices here were very wallet-friendly. I loved so much the first night, I came back the next night!! I definitely recommend this place and will be back next time I am in town.

Awesome beer bar in downtown Portland, sort of in a league of its own in the area. APEX is on the Eastside. Best thing about Bailey's is that they don't serve food but let you bring in food. And across the street is some of the best Mexican food around at Santeria's. Order from Bailey's or walk across the street, put in your order, pay, and then walk into Baileys for it to be brought over. They do this so much that Baileys has a dirty dish disposal. Tap list here is updated live online with even the keg fill levels. Welcome to the 21st century! I wish more bars did this. Focus is on Oregon small brewers, lots of crazy local stuff you won't find anywhere else. Nice variety of styles. 1 or 2 cask ales. Server knew his stuff. They also allow you to buy bottles off their bottle list for on-premise OR take away, which was crazy. Markup on the bottles was lower than you'd expect. A local favorite for a reason. Not to miss. They close really early- midnight on Friday/Saturday. Which is a bummer.

As many Portlander's know, these Taprooms are becoming more and more popular. However, Bailey's was the first of it's kind (well, first of it's kind that I went too) and for that I still LOVE going to this place. They have a wide variety of beers and typically once a keg is tapped they swap it out with something new. The location appears to be small, but it actually holds a decent crowd of people. We like to head down when it's not quite as packed and play one of their many board games and sip on some brews. Still my favorite taproom in Portland!

Yay our first bar in Portland and my first night out in the city of Portland! This place was awesome. After a day of just driving straight from Los Angeles, we got to Portland, and this was the first bar we decided on. I loved the atmosphere of the neighborhood that this bar was in. It was a very eclectic yet adventurous and welcoming experience. Parked in a parking structure nearby and walked down the street. We walked in and found a table immediately. I guess we arrived early but after all that driving, it was a late day for us. We ordered our drinks. I like that this bar or most bars in Portland seem to have this sign that shows you if the beer is out or still available. Nifty. Of course my friend informed me that some bars already have these signs. I must be behind the times. There is a large selection of local beers here at this bar from Portland and surrounding areas in Oregon. I saw some from San Diego too (which I also frequent). We all got local beers since we were in Portland. When in Rome... This bar is cool. We grabbed an available board game to play and just sipped on beer while we played. The local beers here tasted really good and were refreshing. Not expensive at all. The bartenders were really nice. It might get crowded at the bar but just be patient. The crowd here is quite eclectic of varying ages which I like. Not pretentious and just people chilling. A drink later and we were off to the next adventure in our first night out in Portland. Would love to come back here.

I was very pleased with this place! Albeit I didn't realize that that live update screen on keg levels and beer info was made by a Portland company and is therefore is at several bars in the area, this is the first place I saw this specific model of it and I loved it! They have a great beer selection and it's a fun, laid-back atmosphere. Great place to come for a chill game night and a beer.

  • Amanda O.

This was the first bar we came to in Portland. The environment was pleasurable and was very relaxed. My friend and I each ordered a beer and they were both very good. We did notice that the restaurant across the street actually delivered food there which we thought was pretty awesome. The bar tenders were very nice so overall owe enjoyed our experience.

  • Patti F.

Great beers on tap! Our party of 6 was able to get a table on a Saturday night, which was a plus. Other people were taking advantage of the board games and having a good time. I really like this bar! So many good beers on tap can be intimidating at times, but the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I can't wait to go back.

    (4)
  • Amber N.

This place is nice. A lot of taps and some good, hard to find beers. It can get incredibly busy, so don't hold your breath for getting a table right away. Hover a bit and you should be good though. They have games and nice tables outside for a nice day.

  • Nique F.

Beer geeks rejoice! Bailey's is the wine bar of beer bars, where tasting notes are standard, brews are kept at the ideal temp, and small pours are available for sampling a variety of suds. Scope the digital menu screen above the bar for about 30 current tap options, with style, description, ABV and pour sizes available. I tried the Boysen, a dark farmhouse with boysenberries. At 10% this was a meal of a beverage -- and just $3! All the pour prices are crazy reasonable so you can taste through a bunch and not spend all your allowance. Everytime we've been in Portland, we'd walk by Bailey's and think "THAT'S the spot". There's always people chilling at the outside tables, sipping the day away. I *think* you can BYO food, too. What's not to love?

Bailey's is just awesome. I had a solo adventure day built into my trip to Oregon last week and I spent a good portion of it camped out on a bar stool here. I don't often (..or ever) visit bars by myself, but this experience was SO great and worth the potential awkwardness. I seemed to pick the perfect spot to sit. It was easy to chat with the bartender to learn more about local beers. Plus, the people hanging out near me were super, super nice and shared helpful tips on area breweries and neighborhood bars. I'm sure if I lived in Portland, we'd be friends. Also, the bartender let me plug in my phone charger, which was fantastic and I really appreciated it since I was traveling around a new city and I'm embarrassed to say how many times I got lost even with my phone's GPS. I probably should've ordered flights to try a wider selection, but I was loading up on the tasters at every brewery on my trip, so I wanted to do 10 oz. glasses for a change. During my visit, I tried five different beers -- switching up the styles -- and they were all fantastic. Make sure to check in your beers if you use Untappd too. You get to see your mug and drink up on their big digital screen alongside the beer choices. Pretty cool. You really can't go wrong with this place. I love and miss it already.

I love this place. They were celebrating their anniversary so everything on tap was around $3 for a 4 oz pour. Quality beers, I tell ya! It was crowded but their service was quick. Surrounded by good people in a beautiful state drinking good damn alcohol. I couldn't have asked for more.

One of my go-tos when I'm in town. This place always has something new for me to try and I get a little giddy taking over the ticker with my UnTappd check-ins =D One note, the first time I came in, the server for the life of him couldn't remember the name on my card all three times I went up. Spoiler: It's Bailey.

Really cool place for beer connoisseurs. So many taps. If you're on untapped and check in it shows on a screen. Small but awesome!

  • Ambs W.

20+ taps with wide selection of craft beer, from IPAs to saisons to stouts to sours. I did a flight of 5 for $10 - kind of pricey for Portland. They put the tasters in the same order as on the menu, not the order in which you should drink them. Pours were good, service was friendly. You order at the bar and seat yourself. They have board games and allow outside food (grab something from a nearby food truck). Water tap is self-pour at the bar. Overall, nice place to pop in for a short visit but not particularly memorable.

  • Curtis B.

Thank god this place isn't close to home because I'd have good reason to be buzzed and obese. This is the classic tap room with a clientele running the gamut of Portland cool. From bike messengers to corporate types, the common thread seems to be mad love for craft beers, and Patagonia outerwear... Baileys has an awesome rotation and the prices are very nice. You can order up delivery to Baileys from any number of close by eateries. Yeah, I'd live here if given the chance.

It has a great selection of cold local brew. Nice outdoor street seating to watch the portlandians. Good find!

  • Timont H.

Sold our designated driver a completely foul bottle of ginger ale. Nothing but foam and a disgusting chemical film, it was funny until the bar tender AND manager both refused to replace it. Angering a table of twelve people over a $4 bottle of soda is bad customer service, and when people do stuff that stupid out front it makes you fearful for all the cheap, stupid mistakes they make back where you can't see them. Don't trust a place that doesn't stand behind what they sell you. Other than that it's clean and nice. A nearby strip club gives it that edgy-but-safe feel that suburbanites love.

  • Kristi C.

Great vibe, a lot of great beer on tap and some of the friendliest folks you find behind the bar. The people that hang out here are pretty cool too, always fun conversations to be had. Pssssttt....around the corner, through an unmarked door, venture upstairs for a bit more low key experience.

  • Monica G.

Very hip, definitely represented the portland feel! Walk in and you'll see the beers on tap displayed on a screen! very straightforward! There were two friendly bartenders who were very knowledgable of the various beers. I got a pumpkin one yes it was back in oct, and it was good! Music was good too, it is quite small so finding a place to sit and chat is kinda difficult but there have old school board games u can play! This is a good place to hangout and relax while sippin on beer!

    (4)
  • Tiffany D.

Cool computer beer board selections as well as displaying the amount of beer that they have left for each type! There is outdoor as well as indoor seating to chit chatter and to simply chill. There are board games for the win - time to do some friendly competition over a pint of beer!

    (4)
  • Chezz C.

Good beer, good service. The trouble is the music. Why do the owners of so many businesses trust their employees to select the music and its volume? They wouldn't let them choose the logo, the menu, the signage, any other key feature of the business. But the music?! Horrible loud music. And in case you think I'm being an old fuddy-duddy who doesn't like modern sounds -- well, if the owner thinks hip-hop is what fits his business model then OK, he should program that or tell the staff what to play. Because what if the next manager prefers heavy metal? Surely it shouldn't be up to the whims of the current manager. Get the sounds together, please, Bailey's.

Fantastic spot! Can't believe we haven't been here!! Quaint and upfront - order your beer and have a seat. Beers are great, as is the variety. Restrooms OK and clean enough for the area... I'm loving the Goose Island Rambler IPA. Sampler is a great compromise when you want to try them all. Come give this awesome beer joint a try.

We came here twice while staying in Portland. Was never too crowded; everything was a good price. If this place was close to where we live... that could be a very bad thing. Staff was super awesome. Rotating draft list updates to the minute. They let you try stuff. I'm not a beer freak nerd like my mate, but you don't need to be to enjoy a brew or four here.

    (5)
  • Lawrence W.

Awesome selection of beers. Definitely get the sampler. All the beer tastes are so diverse! Our male bartender helped us pick an assortment of beers, very helpful. But when they changed to a different female bartender, she kept trying to rush us to drink and get out...

    (4)
  • Rachel S.

An excellent rotating beer selection, great atmosphere and nice staff! If you want a good selection of Portland brews but don't want to hike all over the city, Bailey's is your place! They also support small breweries in Oregon, which is pretty cool!

  • Amy S.

This place is so cozy and homey feeling, you'll never want to leave. Add an impressive tap list and you're screwed. Don't make plans after this place, I'm sure you won't make it. It was windy and drizzly outside and we had nothing to do after the scarce sun went down. Our server at a restaurant suggested this place. Best suggestion... ever. They carry a ton of local beers and have pretty affordable tasting flights. We got 2 tasting flights, grabbed a deck of cards and hunkered down for the night. Black Jack, Poker, Spades, you name it. There are other board games you can grab, we just prefer cards. As the night goes on, it gets busier and busier, understandably. It also gets pretty cramped. If that doesn't bother you, make this place happen!

    (4)
  • Lydia H.

They have around 22 different draft beers. Would highly recommend getting the flights to try them all. You can also order food from nearby restaurants and eat there while enjoying your drinks. Casual and chill atmosphere; saw people reading books there while having a beer. Excellent hangout spot!

  • K D.

This place was great. Scott was so helpful in finding the perfect beer selection for my flight! He didn't rush me, and although it was the middle of a Monday afternoon and quite empty, he didn't hesitate to help find the perfect choices. And to add to that, this is the least expensive beer I've EVER had! If you're in Portland and looking for a place to stop and gave a beer or five, I'd suggest this place for sure!

    (5)
  • Jennifer L.

This is a chill place to come grab a beer or a couple of beers. They have lots of beer options, and there was also a cider and wine. It was crowded on a rainy night, so you'd be lucky if you can find seating. Order from the bar and bring your drinks to any seat that is available. Our group ordered the sea salt caramel stout, brambleberry cider, and wine. Everything was good. If you don't like beer, I would suggest the cider.

    (5)
  • Janet H.

Lots of rotating beer on tap... and the neat thing about Bailey's is they integrate technology to alert guests what they have on tap, how much beer is left for each item, and also who has checked in on Foursquare. Nifty! They also had a handful of board games. It seems pretty packed at night, so I'd come early.

Bailey's Taproom serves up finely crafted microbrews with the upscaleness of a wine bar and the price point of a dive bar. I'm tempted to scroll down and see why in the world someone would not love this place, but I know better. I very rarely make it downtown unless friends or family are visiting (it's where all the hotels are!) and was very pleased to finally get to try Bailey's when a buddy was in the area after a work conference. The space is like Mary Poppins' satchel-- it might appear there is not room for your group, but there is. There is plenty of counter railing in the back to set your pint and chat with your friends. The people watching is fantastic too. The menu is interactive, which is fun and very helpful. The bartenders are very nice. My drink choice at these places is "What do you think is the best IPA you offer?" and they were super accommodating with recommendations. They accept cards and there is no minimum. My drink was $5. It was like buying a coffee at Starbucks, it was so easy. This is the perfect place to show off Portland to your visiting friends and family. Thanks for making me look good, Bailey's.

great beer, great selection. It's nice to have a good beer spot in this location of town. I also like how the amount of beer left in the keg shows up electronically on the board, as being a full green light, or almost out red light. Def an ideal spot to have a couple of beers and some conversation.

This place is straight forward...good beer served by good people. Always have something for everyone. High turnover in beers keeps the list interesting and the beer fresh. Lots of great bottles to buy as well.

i seriously love this place. it's no frills, hands down, good beer. it may be the reason i moved to portland. j/k, maybe. the variety is amazing, the prices are even better. it's casual but not gross and divey. the space is just great!

This place has an amazing selection of beer and it changes regularly. The staff is really friendly and give really good advice on selection. I always appreciate someone who tells me the truth when I ask about a beer, not just trying to sell it and move on the the next customer. I guess I can be kind of a difficult customer, I like it all so I never really know what I want.

Great selection and friendly staff. We weren't sure what we wanted and the bartender talked us through some options based on what we like. I ended up with a sour that was both local and fantastic. We also received zero dirty looks when we took a short break and ordered a round of just waters while taking up space at the bar. I dig that.

Really like this place, and had a great experience last time. 4 stars as I was disappointed it was entirely IPAs this time we visited. I know it's hop season, but a few options for us Hef drinkers would be great.

This is the coolest pub ever. 20 great beers on tap, constantly rotating selection. Great prices too. I love that they do a half pour for all of their beers as well. They don't serve food or anything except beer, but you're welcome to bring it in from another place. If you like beer, this place is heaven.

Great atmosphere, tap list. A little crowded, and seating was scarce. My Foursquare profile photo and my name scrolled across the monitor above the bar after checking in, for everyone to see. Husband thought that was a little creepy.

A great place with a wide selection of interesting beers. I must be a little old school because the video monitor was a little hi tech for my taste. Still, a lot to like. Good selection Good prices Order up some Voodoo Mex from Santeria Board games Solid 4 stars!

Bailey's is the greatest. Their beers are plentiful in type and low in price. They have a great digital board that lists all of the beers on tap, price, and keg level. The staff here is great; very friendly and always willing to offer me a good recommendation. They offer 10oz pours so that you can try many beers!

Ever changing selection of excellent beers that will be sure to please even the biggest beer geek. The place to visit when in Portland. See there website for the latest beers on tap.

My pal K and I had previously gone to Deschutes and we were surfing on a veritable tsunami of afternoon drunkenness as we approached Bailey's Taproom. You know the feeling where the afternoon sun feels a bit too bright for your drunken pupils which themselves feel like two insignificant connect the dots points in an infinite sea of existential despair? Anyway At the time, they had a beer on tap that seemed to be more or less a holy grail that had been waiting to be discovered. Upon drinking it, I felt like the child at the end of Jumanji, realizing that Robin Williams was only a manifestation of his unconscious hopes and fears...bewildered yet intrigued. I'm sure you can find your Jumanji ending here too.

Lets put it this way ... if i lived in Portland, this would be MY spot. I would be here every day, expanding my beer belly from being unable to resist the deliciousness being poured here. Although everything i sampled here was pretty damn good, my favorites were the Widmer Kill Devil Molasses and the Lompoc Franc. Scott is awesome! He's such a down to earth chill guy and so incredibly friendly. I hope i get to chat him up when i come back. Speaking of awesome, how kickass is the big screen beer list?! Lists all the beers on tap, the temperature, what percent of alcohol each beer is AND how full/empty the kegs are. Now THATS awesome.

An updated Haiku Review of Bailey's Taproom: I hate to downgrade. Victim of their own success. Way too crowded now.

  • Bradford M.

I'm just adding a coda to my review because I happened to notice last night that not only does their best-I've-ever-seen electronic beer menu show you what's on tap, what serving sizes are available, and how much is left in the keg, it also has a scroll that tells you who has checked in on both Untapped and Foursquare! Pretty nifty. :)

Every city ought to have a bar like Bailey's Taproom. Like nearly everyone else has said - there's awesome beer. There's very reasonable prices for said beers. And there's good, knowledgeable, friendly bartenders serving you those beers. The atmosphere is casual, even when it's busy and crowded. What else could you want in a beer bar?

  • Melvin T.

A BEER SCOREBOARD! It keeps score of beers, their color, origin, alcohol content, and KEG LEVEL. Genuis! Pints run $4.50 and 10 oz pours run $2.50 A MAX scoreboard. It keeps score of the MAX schedule so you know when you have to catch your train. Genuis! The beer selection was great. Lagers, IPAs, Porters, Stouts..etc. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of welcoming, boujie, dive, relaxed, Portland, local, global. The only thing missing is a jukebox. You can bring in your own food. My next plan is to enjoy a youcanhascheeseburger and a dark porter.

I've been passing this place for years. Yesterday I decided to finally make my debut into the joint with a friend of mine. There are many beer pubs here to choose from in Portland that offer numerous things to get patrons through the door, but this place has everything that I was looking for. They wears a very pleasant and open atmosphere. The staff was very open, enthusiastic, and very informative about what they were serving. Although i didn't partake in any, there were also a slew of board games to help pass the time as well. I was most impressed with the electronic prompter behind the bar that displayed the types of beers, alcohol content and how much beer they had left on tap of certain beer selections. I most say that I was thoroughly satisfied and will be returning. I thinking maybe a little grub with my beer next time.

A great set of rotating taps with a wide range of styles. Meticulously maintained lines. Very knowledgeable bartenders. And of course: The electronic Digital Pour beer board is a great feature! Each beer is shown in the sizes available and the amount remaining in the keg. It is also available online with up-to-the-minute coverage! A small slice of Beervana in Beervanestan!

Let me set the scene for you: We arrived happily buzzed from the Oregon Beer Festival on a bicycle pedal cab. Score! It was a packed house, but we arrived just in time for a group to give up a table for us. Double score! We were told we could get delicious Mexican food delivered to us from the restaurant across the street. Triple score! The combination of local craft beers + mexican food + rousing good company made this experience stellar. We even made friends while standing in line at the bathroom (Quadruple score?). If I lived in Portland, I would come back just to see what the rotating tap has to offer and maybe even play a board game or two. Mmm beer.

  • Tim S.

Great selection. But beware. They are doing a Sierra Nevada event and don't know anything about what they pour. They poured me a pilsner and told me it was a hoppy beer. Gave it back to be told tell don't offer refunds or corrections.

Bailey's is a no-fuss hangout spot to meet up with some friends or grab a drink after work. I suppose they call it a taproom because it is neither a bar nor a lounge. The decor is simple and bare with bare wood flooring and ceiling to floor glass windows. There are about 17 small tables to sit at, and a wall panel with 20 generic handles for the beer taps, just behind a simple wooden countertop. Rather than looking at the handles, they have a large LCD listing the 20 beers available on tap. Included with each beer is its origin, color, alcohol level and how much is left in the keg. This saves a lot of surprise from going up to the bar and finding out that your favorite brew was just tapped out. The process on ordering a beer is simple here. There is no table service, except for the busboy coming by to clear empty glasses. What you do is walk up to the counter and let the two bartenders know what beer you want, by providing the # and whether you want a 10 oz. or 20 oz. You can start a tab by providing a credit card or you can pay by the drink. It's simple and cuts down on much of the overhead. This helps in keeping drinks cheap at $4.50 for a 20 oz. (YES! That is more than a pint!), and $2.50 for a 10 oz. which gives you the opportunity to samples many beers if you're so inclined. Some of the beers on the menu are special or made in smaller batches, so they tend to run $4 or $5 for a 12 oz. glass. While you wait for your beer, there is a small LCD screen by the cash register where you can catch the MAX transit schedule of the next several inbound/outbund trains. To the right of the cash register, is a small jug dispenser for tap water and small glasses to keep you hydrated. To keep you entertained there are a couple shelves of board games by the front entrance that are free to play with. Since Bailey's offers no options for food, you can order from the restaurant bar, Santeria, across the street. You make a simple call and a waiter will bring the food over to you on normal kitchenware with utensils. It doesn't get better than that! And when you're ready to leave or for those looking to get a drink on the run, you can have growlers filled and buy bottles to go. It doesn't get better than that. Bailey's is a must visit whether you are from out of town or from Portland. Not only do you get to try local brews, the beer is cheap and you get 20 oz.'s for what you normally would have to pay $5-$7 for a 16 oz. Portland, you are very fortunate to have Bailey's! If only they had a no-fuss bar like this in New York City, I'd be going there everyday to grab a drink.

Hangovers fade, but glory is forever. Make sure you check in when you come to the Taproom, fellow Yelpers, as your efforts will not go unrewarded. As you browse the electronic menu, you'll see that your check-in is on display for all to see. The beer. No matter what type you're into, you'll find some great libations to get you sauced. The Taproom is really chill, and there's a good chance you'll meet a new friend over a pint. Thinking of grabbing a bite? Do it before you come here. No food.

Super fancy electronic menu from the future. They always have a great selection of rare beers here, great place to bring a visitor to show off the way we do it here in Portland. Santeria delivers awesome food from next door, the bartenders are super knowledgeable and can recommend a beer for just about anyone. Oh, and they fill growlers!! Double Plus Good!!!

  • Joe C.

Totally deserving of a review. First off- big LCD screen with all their beers on tap, complete with little graphics showing you how close the kegs are to tapped. Fantastic. Second, this isn't a "bartender takes care of you, then starts to annoy you with the frequency of their visits" kind of place. Nay nay. You want a beer, you wait in line, and order. Then go sit where you want. No fuss- Also, good music, the beer selection is amazing, and there really isn't any of the pomp and circumstance that generally surrounds taprooms. Nobody here (at least, very *few* people here) are beer snobs, so much as fans of good brew. I like that. So yeah- 4 stars. I would give them 5, but from what I can see there are no munchies, and those are always nice in a pub. Not asking for a menu, but some peanuts would be ok by me.

    (4)
  • Daniel B. O.

Amazing... no words to describe this place! You must go. They monitor all keg levels on a tv screen, once the keg is done they won't replace it for the rest of the night which makes it very exciting. Great selection of reserve beers too!

Oh Bailey's, you make my heart flutter everytime I think of you. (Don't tell my boyfriend, though in all reality you probably do the same to him). One star for your kick ass beer selection.I can find something new everytime I come here. And well priced too! One star for the cool employees, always friendly and helpful. One star for having Santeria deliver over here. Now that I'm addicted to their burritos, I love you even more. One star for being located downtown, super convenient for out of town visitors and close to a lot of my other favorite haunts. One star for just being you. That doesn't count? Okay, I like that you have board games and your bathrooms are always clean. There? Satisfied? 5 stars, it can't be disputed. You complete me. :)

Pretty legit place! I loved the multiple beer selections, however I didn't find something I feel in love with. They have a digital beer menu, that keeps tabs on how full the keg is. I loved the detail. We didn't get any food, but saw multiple orders coming in from the Santeria across the street. We went on a Saturday night, but I closed myself going to kill time in a Sunday afternoon. They had a shelf full of games to pass the time. Next time we go, I hope to find a killer beer.

How awesome to have a beer bar instead of a wine bar? It was so fun to taste all the different brew. They have a wide selection to those who just want to sample different kind of beers. They also have board games there and plenty of seating as well.

My Grandma kicked ass. She had ringside season tickets to Portland Wrestling when Playboy Buddy Rose, Jimmy Super Fly and Rowdy Roddy Piper graced the ring. She knew the moves, knew the players and certainly knew how to have a good time. I think she may have also had a crush on Sandy Barr. She was the first to let me drink coffee with my breakfast (although it was more cream and sugar than coffee) and the first adult that let me imbibe in a lil' nightcap before bed (although it was more cream and cola than Kahlua). It is fair to say that my Grandma spoiled the ever loving crap out of me. She baked lemon meringue pies for just for me, and spent a good percentage of her fixed income on Star Wars figures, Transformers and GI Joes. The blanket she made for me over 20 years ago has stood the test of time and still provides comfort and warmth on those cold and sometimes lonely nights. And while it has seen its fair share of ass over the years, I forbid it from ever making a round on the guest bed as I don't want it defiled by the flatulence of the frequently visiting Mr. Bob Bobalina (father in-law Bob). But beyond the spoiling, more importantly she took care of me and she loved me. And when cancer was savagely taking its fateful toll on my Mom, her daughter, she watched over me and made sure I was ok. During our frequent afternoons and weekends together, she also instilled in me a love for game shows. Match Game, Card Sharks, Press Your Luck, The Price is Right, Tick-Tac-Dough and the $20,000 Pyramid were boob tube favorites. Gene Rayburn, Fannie Flag, Charles Nelson Reilly, Wink Martindale, Bert Convy, Bob Barker and Richard Dawson were more than just TV personalities; they were daily acquaintances warmly welcomed into her living room. So in honor of Grandma, my review of Bailey's Taproom will be written in the form of the Winner's Circle repartee from the $20,000 Pyramid. Soupy Sales will be my celebrity partner; he just barely beats out Nipsey Russell for the honor. Soupy: "Hooker Taints... Debauchery..." Me: "Things you will find in my Yelp reviews" Soupy: "Correct - NEXT! Coffee mugs...picture frames, artwork, crafts..." Me: "Things you put a bird on" Soupy: "CORRECT - Next. Restraint...Pacing" Me: "Techniques I use in the bedroom" Soupy: "Moderation..." Me: "Oh, traits I'm trying to introduce into my life" Soupy "YES! Next...um, beer" Me: "Reasons why I'm 15 pounds overweight" Soupy "Imperial IPA's, IPA's, Seasonals, Porters, Lagers, Ales, Belgians, Stouts, Barleywines, Cask Conditioned, Nitro's..." Me: "The eclectic tap selection at Bailey's Taproom" Soupy: "That's right! Comfortable, friendly, knowledgeable, selection, enthusiastic, location, patrons..." Me: "Things that make the ambiance of Baily's perfect for the serious beer drinker" Soupy: "YES! One more...beer, beer, beer, beer..." Me: "Bailey's Tap Room" Soupy: "Yes! Yes! Yes!" And with that final answer, we both jump out of our seat, jumping for joy as we have conquered the $20,000 Pyramid. Soupy and I embrace, Dick Clark congratulates us on our win and I manage to feel up one of the Lander sisters while Jack Clark takes us to commercial.

Great beer and a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Loved the board games. The bartender we had every time we visited on our stay in Portland was very friendly and remembered my brother and I right away (although we are kind of hard to miss, he at 6'5 and I at slightly taller than average 5'7). It is definitely filled to the brim with testosterone. I was one of two women in there each time we visited. So I guess IPA-loving gals are harder to come by than I thought! But the crowd was great and there was always a seat ready to be snatched up. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who takes their beer drinking or tasting seriously, or for those who just like to kick back, relax and enjoy some refreshing brews.

LOVE LOVE LOVE. Had a really awful beer, but thats because I was being an idiot and didn't learn about what I was ordering first. My other few beers were fantastic, staff was awesome, and lots of seating for being such a small joint. GO HERE!

This was a real cool place to stop into. I was walking around after fleeing the chaos of saturday at beerfest. My friend and I got there early, so we had to wait a little bit for them to open. We were two of the first there and were waiting for our other friends. It didn't take long for Bailey's to fill up (granted, it wasn't like it was packed, more that every seat was taken) I took a quick look at their draught selection and had to get myself a saison (the upright four). There were a couple of beers that I can get in chicago (bridgeport and new belgium) so I avoided those. The Upright Four was really good. Granted, I love saison's to begin with, but this really did the trick for me. I also ordered a Lompoc Proletariat red as I wanted a red ale and I was partial to the name as well. this was also very good and lompoc quickly went on my list of places to hopefully hit up. It wasn't hard getting a beer at all even though it got busy fast. I liked the laid back vibe here. It certainly didn't feel like you were in a dungeon or anything like that. It was more like a hip coffee shop, but with beer

I'm a big micro brew fan, probably in the "beer snob" category. I went to Bailey's last night and I will not be back. This place is vastly overrated. The beers all have the same flat undertone, indicating dirty tap lines. They rotate so many through and it appears they do not clean the tap lines with each rotation. Another drawback is that you order at a register like you are a fast food restaurant. I don't know about you, but I prefer to pull up to a bar and order a brew from a bartender who is actually enjoying himself...not just sitting behind the cash register retail-style.

    (2)

Friendly, knowledgeable bartenders, and an incredible array of beer styles at ridiculous prices. Hard to imagine a better taproom than this!

  • Tom G.

What a shame. I'm so incredibly disappointed. I just tried to go here, and due to my wife being in the hospital, had my six month old daughter strapped to my chest. I had barely made it in the door when I was simply told no. I said, seriously? The bartender said yeah. I asked and he said they have a strict no baby policy. I understand that every place has its set of rules. That is not why I am so upset by the whole situation. It was the bartenders total lack of customer service, tact and consideration. Have a little sympathy and tact when basically throwing out potential customers. I love going here, which is why this is all the harder. The next time I want to go out, I will think twice about going here all because of the bartender.

Bailey's is an odd place. At first, the venue has an upscale feel, but, if you look too closely, you'll notice that the soft chairs are all so stained that... Well, I wouldn't be surprised if the place moonlights as a porn production company! Seriously, though, there is the bar, and there are high tables. There are other seating options... Really, though, people don't drop into Bailey's for the atmosphere; people drop in because they want to try a new, exciting beer or three. Unless you're a regular, Bailey's will always have something fresh and interesting for you. That alone should make for a quick sell. If you're planning on staying downtown, and hunkering over a pint, I would strongly suggest that you cross the alley, and head into the Tugboat, as that place has far more character! However, if you're downtown, and you're in the mood for something new, you should drop in. Over the years, I've tried dozens of beers here; I've loved a handful, enjoyed the lion's share, and have, if my memory serves me properly, only been truly disappointed by one of them! When it comes to beer drinking, those are pretty good odds, I reckon'.

Tons of beer!! And they have an app! If you want to be able to try a lot of different beers, this is the place for you. The offerings are always changing and the offer pours in small amounts ... So you can try a few and still be responsible. I can rate the food. We didn't have any - just stopped in for a beer.

  • Marques G.

Amazing taproom. Definitely in the top 3 in Portland and the best one downtown. Many uncommon beers on tap. They list each tap on the monitor and even show how much is left in each keg! A must visit taproom for locals and tourists.

  • Amanda M.

The atmosphere is pretty boring, you bring food over from across the street, and the staff is so very, very rude. The beer was decent but not worth sacrificing better atmosphere and better customer service. I had high hopes based on other yelp reviews but I was disappointed. I don't anticipate returning.

  • Paul B.

Bright clean open space, with a fantastic tap list. Felt a little more like a deli counter than a bar when I went during mid-afternoon, with customers politely lining up single file to order their beers. Great variety of beer styles with a heavy local presence. Great prices, no attitude, half pours to try more. Also a fill your own water station which I like.

    (5)
  • Tasha D.

Fantastic taproom. Great beer list, it's fun to do the sampler and try a bunch of different beer. It's also super easy to order food from the tiny Mexican place across the lane -- and they will deliver it straight to your seat at the bar! Spent several blissful hours playing board games, drinking beer, and eating nachos.

Ate: no food Drank: Great divide Saison Liked: No nonsense beer bar, the visual keg status in the screens, chill environment Disliked: No food, but I like how they don't mess around Chicken: none whatsoever Would mom like it?: She would be confused at the lack of food Wait: none Would I go back: yes Recommend: Looks like you can bring your own food in.

  • Spenser T.

Great Place, the bartenders were great and were very knowledgable about the many beers they had on tap. The place itself semmed really low (to the ground) so that if someone were standing and talking to you it felt very uncomfortable. Large crowds kept coming in and out, being with a large crowd myself it made navigating the bar quite difficult at times. All in all a Good place that I will return to again. (Also I don't think they serve any food)

  • Aki N.

Loved this beer bar, one of the best I've ever seen. They have an LCD board that shows what's on tap and how much is left in the keg, two dozen or so options! It's not pub-like, much cleaner and brighter, but the beers are just phenomenal.

    (5)
  • Laura K.

Pretty good, not glamorous but good prices for local Oregon beer. Beer only no liquor, be warned (disclaimer--I'm not much of a beer person...so take that into consideration)! Also, no food, just an FYI but not a downfall. I'd LOVE to see this place do a little live acoustic music or something like that!

    (3)
  • Matt L.

Fantastic taproom. The digital menu (featuring real time updates of keg levels and draft rotation) is a nice touch. As an added bonus, the prices are fantastic! Highly recommended, especially for the beer lover.

First of all, pumpkin ale is a must. Yum! A friend and I were eating across the street and I always wanted to check this place out. I love beer, especially when you have a full selection of them! Guaranteed you'll walk out with a smile on your face. Other than the cool LCD screen that shows what's on tap, the building is placed right on the corner of the street which makes the seating quite interesting. This place is nothing but beers and friends, so if your looking for some entertainment on a television or a band, this place isn't for you.

The single-minded sense of purpose and intense focus of Bailey's Taproom has to be experienced to be believed. If you love primarily West Coast and especially Oregon micro and craft brews, Bailey's is pretty much the be-all and end-all. Beer. It's pretty much all Bailey's offers. Its proprietors don't concern themselves much with decor or atmosphere, both of which are pretty plain here. The airy room has very high ceilings and is pleasant enough; giant windows look out onto a rather eclectic bend of Broadway. Music--standard barroom classic rock and punk rock--was pretty unobtrusive on the Friday afternoon we were there. In general, the atmosphere is pretty relaxing and unintimidating. And as far as I can tell, Bailey's doesn't even offer any food, not even so much as a bag of chips or a bowl of nuts. The only concession to non-beer sustenance is a small water cooler sitting on the wooden bar, apparently only for palate-cleansing between samples or pints. All of that silliness might distract you from the task at hand: sampling and enjoying some of the best beer produced in the United States. This is more or less a beer lab: There are twenty constantly rotating taps featuring a wide variety of styles--all but one or two from the West Coast when we were there--plus a big list of entirely Oregon-produced bottles. Prices are eminently reasonable: $2.50 for 10 ounces or $4.00 for 20. (A few premium offerings are more expensive.) I want a Bailey's Taproom in my town in Ohio. And by that I mean with mostly Oregon beer, just like in downtown Portland.

This was a great find for us on Yelp. Also, our first drink for a weekend of fun in Portland. You walk in and its just tables and a bar - nothing too fancy. Then you see the TV behind the bar that's basically their beer menu. It has the alcohol proof, how much is left, and the price. Also, you can order in 20 oz or 10 oz, so you can try more if you would like. Genius. I ordered two 10 oz of a Porter and Stout. My husband went with a IPA. After you pay at the bar, you just find a table and drink. Lovely. We just chatted it up and drank our beers. That's the scene there. Nothing crazy, but still fun and cool.

Bailey's had a decent selection and prices, however the customer service was lacking and the atmosphere was a bit unwelcoming. If you're not picky about environment it's not a bad place, but I like somewhere where you feel comfortable.

Great place, our go to for meetings and great beer. Be careful though, they don't stand behind recommendations when they are skunky and undrinkable.

If you are looking to find a great place to get together and chat this is your place. Though I do not drink beer this place had an awesome display for those that do! It's all electronic and shows what's on tap going up next and on. I think we spent a couple of hours in this place and may have to go back. Just a great friendly environment!

  • Kent R.

Boulder Mojo IPA...Nitro! Cask available (but not today..so sad). Lots of windows for viewing the world and a laid back vibe. Best use of information and display technology ever. Plenty of your favorite left? No stress... Red zone? yikes! Drink up! There's an unseemly emphasis on board games, if you're into that sort of distraction from the main focus. But open and friendly. A happy place.

Grateful they had a few gluten-free beer options in bottles. $3 for an Omission Lager. We sat outside, which was nice, but there's limited seating and we had to wait for people to clear out before getting a table. No food at this place, but you can order in from other places, including a Mexican place across the street. The people I was with enjoyed their beer-- there were lots to choose from!

  • Rachel R.

I've been going to Bailey's for 3 years now and it is awesome to see how it has evolved! Not only do you know exactly whats on tap thanks to the giant monitor, but I can personally guarantee the gentleman tending bar always ensure the taps are clean, the co2 levels are correct, and every glass of beer is poured properly. You can learn a ton about beer if you're interested, or just sit back, play a board game with friends and have delicious Santeria Mexican food delivered to your table. Bonus: They have bottles of Gluten Free beer options!

This is by far my favorite pub/bar in Portland. A large selection of great beer for cheap. The people are nice, the place is clean, and the mexican place across the street will bring you food. It's the first place I suggest to friends from out of town and the first place I suggest meeting up with friends.

Wanted to get a beer relatively late and I really wanted to see the menu board with the ABV, IBU, and keg level. We got there about 2 minutes before last call, and there were so many good beers on the menu it was hard to choose! The beertender was knowledgeable, the smallish crowd was mellow by then. I could spend hours here. Small pours available, niche beers and microbatches. Food can be ordered from Santeria across the street, and they deliver and collect the dishes also. The strip club across the street is where Kurt met Courtney, or so I was told. It wasn't surprising to me that Bailey's made DRAFT magazine's 100 best US beer bars for 2014. Just go.

  • Nick R.

Top echelon craft beer bar. Selection is amazing, and the beer board system is awesome - lets you know beer info including how much is left in the keg, so you can order the fastest-disappearing beers first. Super affordable pints and small glasses as well.

  • Patrick B.

Good selection, good prices, digital beer list tells you all you need to know. Nice seating, water tap easily accessible for critical hydration. Major bonus: you can bring food over from Santeria next door!

Best place to drink beer IN THE WORLD. Yep. Better than anywhere else in the world that I have had a beer, including Germany and Belgium. Amazing selection of hard to find microbrewerys from the northwest. From SF to Seattle to local Oregon brews, they have it all. Not to mention an amazing bottle selection. And no, this is not an overpriced beer place. Its a beer lovers cafe. And when you are hungry, you can order in amazing mexican food. Definetely order the sampler and go at it. This is why people keep coming to Portland. Places like this make you want to stay permanently.

Wait, I haven't reviewed this place yet? Drinks: 5 Food: See Santeria Service: 5 (Knowledgeable, awesome) Atmosphere: 4 (a bit crowded, but lots of light and usually good music) Sustainability: 4 (Focused on local brews, and why not?) Bailey's is the kind of place that I thought I would start: A beer bar focused on local brews. But Geoff beat me to it. Situated on the corner of SW Ankeny and Broadway, the people watching outside the window verges on hilarity at times. It is at the crossroads between the skanky Old Town and nice section of Broadway. The patrons are usually of the upscale/Portland variety. Programmers and young professionals who care about beer. And this is _the_ place for the best rotating taps around. They always have something for me in the dark-and-cannot-see-through-it variety, and generally allow a taste of something to preview if you're going to like a full 20 ounces. This was a great idea and has been for the 4 or 5 years I've been frequenting the place. Cheers to Bailey's!

Just stopped by here on a whim with some friends before seeing a movie and I have to say that I think this place is really cool. What I really liked about it was that it has more of a cafe vibe than a bar vibe. The place is small with fairly high ceilings and a bright atmosphere. I was with 4 friends and we all tried each others drinks and they were all so good and had very reasonable prices. I especially liked what I got: The Commons Fleur de Ferme. I can't wait to stop by this bar again.

This needs to be a must visit for any beer lover while visiting Portland. The beer selection is primarily Oregon based (which is awesome for visitors) and the 10oz and 20 oz Imperial pints make sampling easy/cheap and fun. Instantly you will notice the digital display of the beers with keg level indicators so you know if a keg is newly tapped or almost gone (handy to know if you want to try something). If you are a big beer person you will notice the twitter/Instagram feed on the TV that shows people posting pictures from there recently. On the other side there is a place to watch people's untappd checkins and ratings instantly. It's very cool. One of my favorite spots in Portland!

Had to make a b-line to Baileys, after hearing about their ghost-chili-infused Rocket fuel! I came straight from across SW Broadway (Saucebox), which is featuring several Thai chili infused and themed adult beverages. What can I say, all the chat in the forums lately about spicy food and drinks put me in the mood. I say w/o hesitation that Bailey's Ghost-chili ale was significantly spicier than the chili pepper-infused vodka and tequila @ Saucebox. True to Ghost chili form, the power really sneaks up on you; 3 drinks into my 10oz cup (only $2.50 HH price! Wotta bargain!!!), I was thinking "Boy what a bunch of hooey. This is weak tea, man! L-A-M-E-O!" By the fourth drink, the ghost chilis in the mix presented me w/their calling card. As things rapidly warmed up, the flavor of the ale was intensified dramatically. Really tasty, high quality brew! Then you gotta buckle up and seriously prepare yourself for the ride, b/c very soon, the zesty kick within that robust flavor takes center stage and absolutely hogs the spotlight for the next 20-25 minutes. Actually, for ghost chilis, this is an uncharacteristically short duration. Something Bailey's did in the dilution process really curbed the afterburner effect... Like the barkeep said, nobody orders this ale more than once, or requests it over and over again. 20 minutes of some of the most exquisite agony you can legally inflict upon yourself is PLENTY. What else to say about Bailey's? I'ts a tiny elbow of a joint. Spirits were high among the many patrons crowded there. There seemed to be 3 distinct, separate groups there, each of about 6 to 10 people, then there were a few single stragglers, such is myself. Very amusing to see the old school board games available to patrons, such as connect four, and I think chess, and maybe even vintage Stratego! Anyone game for a round?

Bailey's Tap Room is just like it's name, fairly bare bones place to drink a great beer or 26. They have so many beers here there is a digital display board to choose from, an exhausting selection. Great location on Broadway across from Saucebox.

    (4)
  • Emily M.

They have a good beer selection and a great atmosphere. The draft beer menu is on an lcd screen and contains information about the type of beer, brewery location, price, size of pour, and how much is left in the keg. This is all useful but the text on the screen was quite small and I had a hard time reading it. They don't serve food but you can bring in outside food.

I like Portland for its breweries. This is not one, but tried it anyway. Waited in line and asked about the taster flights... Instead of explaining the options the waitress said that she did't have enough glasses so we couldn't do that. It wasn't an answer to what I asked which is how flights worked, and it was the wrong answer if I had asked for one. She should have said she needed to collect a few from the bar and she'd be happy to make a flight for us. This place doesn't make its own beer, just serves someone elses. Customer service is all they make on there own and it wasn't there. They serve food from across the street. That restaraunt has a bar, and probably better service too. Skip this place and go to a real brew pub instead.

Amazing electronically monitored systems with information on the current beer selections. A small but quaint atmosphere that will have you getting another pint because you don't want to leave. Knowledgeable staff. Usual difficulties with parking but well worth paying a visit.

I haven't written a review in a bit because I've been contemplating who I should honor with my 100th review. I had thought about doing something sappy like where I took my girlfriend on our first date, but I decided against that because it would have been a 1 or 2 star review (the actual location, the date ended up going pretty well). After much contemplation, I decided to give it to a business that holds a special place in my heart: Bailey's Taproom. I still remember the time when Bailey's opened. 4 years ago doesn't seem like that long ago, but back then there weren't any good spots to grab a pint in the downtown area, they were bound for success. While many spots of this type tend to loose their luster after awhile, Geoff seems to have nailed it and fills the place almost every night of the week. The 20 rotating taps are not only diverse, but almost always fantastic and are offered at an incredible price. $4-$4.50 for a pint? Hell yes. $2.50 for a half pour? Even better! The Bailey's experience has only become better over the last 2 years when the previous restaurant across the street closed up shop and was taken over by the always fantastic Santeria. What better to pair with your cheap craft brews than a surfeit of delicious, high quality mexican food? ...and of course, their events that they have are always clever and an incredible bang for your buck. Cellarfest was an amazing chance to try some beers that you can no longer find anywhere else, the anniversary parties have always been phenomenal, and the brewery nights are always well organized and fun. A big thanks to Geoff, Nick, Scott, Michael and the new guy (I can't recall his name) for a wonderful 4 years. Here's to another 40!

The beer selection is awesome, but I'm a fruitty beer kinda guy. I go for the sweet stuff like cider. The selection is not much for cider, and I forgot what I had last time. But it's good and refreshing. Not sure why they call the place Bailey's. They definitely don't serve Bailey's and I don't think that's the owner's name.

Hands down my favorite place in Portland to drink. As I'm approaching my later 20's I don't always want to go hang out in some loud, crowded bar on the weekends. Bailey's suits me just perfectly because while the place can be pretty full, like on Friday nights, the music isn't cranked up to an obscene volume and you can actually carry on a conversation with your company without shouting at them. Then there's the beer, which for a beer bar I thought was VERY reasonably priced. The selection is always impressive and usually after trying a beer or two I can find one to settle on for the night. I also love the availability of board games here, and that the patrons actually aren't afraid to grab one and play with their friends. My husband and I like to sit and play cards - which at most bars for some reason draws some staring and odd looks. But at Bailey's, no one blinks an eye. It's not like we're playing Dungeons and Dragons or something for Christ sake! The people here, both staff and patrons alike, aren't snobby or pretentious like you can find at many upscale beer bars. You'll find an assortment of people here from hipsters and college students to middle-aged couples and loners. For those new to beer or for people who just want to sample different brews they offer tasting flights at a reasonable price.

This place is both slick and grungy at the same time. I know that sounds complicated - even tricky - but it's not, the way they do it! The stark brick walls, high ceiling, concrete floors, and bare wood beams belie the stylized, high-tech approach to serious beer-drinking. For above the bar and the 25 numbered taps on the wall hangs a large flat-screen monitor describing the wide selection of craft brews on hand - complete with origi, strength, price, and a colored-cask icon that show how much is left in the keg. So ordering beer is as simple as checking the screen and picking a number from 1 to 24... kind of like a juke box. Though, the bar-DJ's are extremely well-verse and keen to answer any beer pop-quiz you throw their way. Add to this the availability of 20 or 10 oz sizes at very reasonable prices and you can only call this place "neat!" (Also note the monitor by the register showing departure times for the public transportation - neat squared!) I will be back whenever I am in Portland!

They are very helpful and will help you pick your drink of choice, or two, or three. =) I appreciated the unobtrusive atmosphere of Bailey's. This will definitely be on my list of places to frequent when I visit my hometown.

Best beer bar downtown. Great place to go for a constantly changing very exciting taplist. Their screen that tells you the beer description/ABV/IBU and how much is left in the keg is awesome!! Beer is served in appropriate glassware and at the correct temp to keep a beer nerd happy. They dont have food but Santeria is an awesome little place across the street. Was recently named one of the top 100 beer bars in the US, in addition to I think 4 others in Portland. Very deserving in my opinion.

One of my favorite beer bars in Portland. Not only do they have a rotating great selection of beer (which is also shown on a screen that indicates how much they have left), but they have board games here to play. Cozy atmosphere, not far from other awesome downtown haunts like Ground Control. Definitely a must go for any beer lover in the area.

63-ish different beers. Oh Canada, we are not the king of beers! I loved Bailey's because I was able to comfortably sit at the bar solo, and stay for 3+ hours yapping and drinking with random Portlandians. I think I managed to try at least twenty beers that evening. Thank god for the small glasses and friendly free samples. All in all, a great taproom. Cheers.

Beer geeks go gaga for this place. It's a very masculine bar for beer aficionados with a very good selection of beers to match. They have flat screen displays with all the their beers and their attributes plus how much they have left of each. I like to make stop each time I'm in town to try new stuff.

Never thought id be able to play drunk Connect Four in public. Thank you Bailey's for fulfilling that. Such a cool place, has a nice relaxing ambiance to it. Get their passion fruit ale. I forget the name of it, but it says passion fruit flavor under the description. It really is a must visit. You dont go to Portland to go sightseeing or look through guidebooks for what to do. You go there to visit places like this.

Bailey's isn't so much a bar as it is a beer cafe. It is well-lit, has a number of comfortable chairs and small tables, and no blaring music or happy hours. What does it have? One of the best beer experiences in Portland. 20 taps, all rotating, and almost always local or regional. They get a lot of hard-to-find beers, anyone that likes beer can find SOMETHING there they like, and most people can find something new on every visit. It's not a place for getting drunk or being seen - it's a place for sitting down with a friend or a small group, chatting and sampling great beer.

  • Mike S.

Most knowledgeable beer geek staff in PDX. Consistently awesome selection of beer. If it's not too busy, grab a seat at the bar and the tenders will share their encyclopedic beer knowledge with you. They always have clean tap lines and keep the beer at the perfect temperature. One often overlooked aspect of an excellent beer bar

We found this place by accident while wandering around downtown Porland & got so lucky! This little beer bar is great! They have tons of beers on tap, a screen to show what is available & how recently it's been tapped, and a good amount of seating. They also have board games! We bought some of the merchandise as well & everything was very reasonably priced. The staff were all extremely nice & the atmosphere was perfect!

More than 20 beers on the tap. No food though but you can order it from the restaurant just opposite to bailey's and they will deliver to you in bailey's Digital screen with all the details of the beers on the tap. Great place to try the latest brew and you can create your own beer flight.

With over 300 reviews I'll keep this short and sweet. This is one of my new favorite spots, especially for downtown. We arrived on Friday about 8:30 and were lucky to snag two tables for a large group. The digital menu with all the details (except IBU and alcohol %) give you the latest info and you don't have to wait for a server, you simply order at the bar and your good to go. Added bonus the prices are actually reasonable for downtown, cheaper the most in my book. No food here but the Mexican place next door delivers and the fajita burrito we had was FANTASTIC and huge, probably one of the best I've had. Careful, the sauce with the red lid will make you SWEAT! trust me I watched an innocent soul experience it. The environment is awesome as well, big windows, hints of old growth wood, some greenery and almost a coffee house vibe with far more energy and way better beverages! ;-) Bottom Line - I can't wait to go back.

Great place to grab a drink with friends! Constantly rotating list of taps and lots of variety, so you're bound to find something you like! No food served, but they do work with Santeria across the street who will deliver food to you while you imbibe. The place is usually busy, borderline packed, but service is still pretty quick. A pretty regular stop on my visits to the City of Roses. Check it out for yourself :)

On my trip to Portland, this was one of the spots I was told I had, had, had to visit. I am far from a beer snob, but I enjoy a good beer of the types of beers I like. We happened in here after traipsing all over Portland drinking beers all afternoon, and I was instantly impressed by the computerized dashboard of beers. I hemmed and hawwed and ended up with a ginger beer since I'd been drinking various beers all day, and figured it would kind of cleanse my palate. It was AWESOME. Not sickly sweet, a nice ginger flavor on top of a good quality beer. I wanted to try other stuff, but couldn't help but order this the whole time I was there. Also, the space was really conducive to chatting and meeting new friends. We sat outside (because that's what you do when it's 70 degrees in July instead of 100 million like back home) and ended up chatting with another couple and their pup. So fun! This is definitely a spot I'd hit again on a return trip.

Fun place, nice folks, but by God make sure the 4 people in front of you that use the restroom flush the toilet completely lest you be accosted by a potty-Nazi that can't figure out how to operate a modern toilet. Oh well, God bless her. We had fun and will come back again. Next time we make sure everyone flushes or else we will send Hillary in with a Bengazi worthy SWAT team to straighten things out!

Cool spot to knock back some beers and watch the world go by. This place usually has 20 different selections to choose from on tap. Fantastic prices for these beers. Several sizes to choose from. I suggest going with the 10 ouncers so you can try a bigger variety. You can order the Mexican food from next door, didn't try it but it smelled great.

Real Time dashboard of beers, taps, and how much is left, mirrored to the website... Friendly and incredibly knowledgeable staff, and of course excellent beers which are unique and always rotating... Sign me up. This place is so awesome I can't believe I haven't reviewed it after having been here no less than 6 times on two separate trips to Portland. Go now.

One of them high tech, trendy places with good beer. Loved by the locals and probably ignored by tourists unless a local tips them about it. Great beer choice and they want you to stick around since they have board games and other fun stuff. I played with a portable pin ball game (and I gave up, beer and pin balls are not a good combination!). Check in on Untapped to get your msg on the board and bring your food from somewhere else (Santeria is across the street, wink, wink!) and sit down and enjoy! (good luck finding a spot to sit down!). Start a conversation with someone near you or pet the bulldog near the door, your choice, we ended up doing both!

Very cool place. Not quite like the local tap room back home. The big screens with the beer list, including a gauge of how much is left in the keg is a new one to me. New in a good way. Love the local beer list, and love love love the prices for the small pours. I haven't walked out of a bar spending less then $10 until today and I had three excellent beers.

Super nice place. Great beer selection. They don't serve food but you can order next door and they deliver it to you at baileys. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Also if you use the app untapped they feature your check in on the flat screen tv above the bar! Definitely will be back!

Bailey's has never failed me. Whether it's bringing a visiting friend around town, after work with colleagues, or a first date, Bailey's is always perfect as far as atmosphere and beer selection. They even have board games, and an outside seating area. The bartenders are knowledgeable, professional and cool people to talk to. Not that I sit at the bar talking to bartenders all the time, but I could. I like to come here for theee nice beer. I also really like having the option of getting small glasses, which is what I usually do.

Seriously, one of the best tap rooms I've ever been in. We dropped in here on a Sunday night and found some Pliny the elder on tap. We came back a few days later and it was gone but what do you expect right? That might have made me a bit bias but I was a fan from the start. They have about 20 beers on tap from all over the US, mainly pacific northwest, and about 100 bottles to choose from. They also have the digital pour taplist, which will tell you how full the kegs are along with the prices. You can also check the digital pour taplist from their website to see what's on tap in real time. Pretty cool if you're looking for a specific beer. The bar staff was pretty easy going both times we stopped in. They know their stuff but also are not in your face about it ... good mix. The space can be tight as this is a pretty hot spot in town. We found a table or seat at the bar but there wasn't much extra space around the tap room. Keep that in mind if you're going on the weekends.

Great selection. The draught beers were well presented. Great selection. Knowledgable staff. decent pricing. Prime location. I must say tho, i ordered an imperial stout and despite my complaints, the bartender told me that it was normal that this type of beer was normally less carbonated. It was a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout. And despite it being seemingly flat, he insisted that due to these beers carrying more oxydation in them (his exact words), that they are normally less carbonated. I've never heard of oxydization being a desireable or good thing for a beer. I can understand it being more of a byprocess of making a beer like this, but i've never had a beer of the same style that turned out like this. Honestly, i think he was trying to BS me that this beer was acceptable when it wasn't. I left with a bad taste in my mouth despite how awesome the place should be.

What's not to like? Ever rotating beers appear on the screens behind the bar, and it's all craft craft craft. Not a bud light in site.., well it is Portland. There's no one thing you can recommend except to say start with a five drink flight to get a flavour for the beers before deciding on a pint. So much beer. Beer. Beer.

Baileys Taproom is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Portland right around the corner from the historic Mary's strip club and is a great destination spot if you want to try some local beer. If I recall correctly, they carried 20 different beers on tap which are displayed on monitors throughout the space. There's plenty of seating for large groups as well as smaller ones and they play music which is just right in volume. The overall hum of the Taproom was very pleasant. I would repeat!

One of the many bars I happened upon in Portland. Loved the atmosphere! It was super chill....... heh. Ok I wasn't totally sober when I stepped in here, and was even less so when I stepped out. Had like, a full on conversation with a random girl while waiting in line for the bathroom lol. Everyone in there seemed to be having a good time. It wasn't too crowded or rowdy, and we had no trouble finding a table for 6. Also got to try some beers. They were good of course, although I had no idea what they were called :) Lastly, I absolutely appreciate the board games! Sometimes it's just nice sipping on beers while scoring big on Scrabble. Or owning your friend up in Connect 4.

COME HERE TO DRINK! You will find obscure beers, local craft beers, non-local craft beers, a gamut of varieties. The best thing about this place is that they have small sizes so you can try a variety of them. Prices are very reasonable! If you like good beer, just come here. They don't serve food but allow you to bring in food.

I write this 5 star review with a disclaimer: Go, but text me immediately when you do, and save me a spot at the bar. I mean, you HAVE to be kidding me. Twenty-four constantly rotating taps, and always something for every taste. This place is ridiculous and every neighborhood in every city needs one. I have a longstanding affinity for establishments that claim to be "taprooms/houses" -- in Cleveland, one of my favorite spots was Tremont Taphouse. That place had an impressive beer list and a fantastic patio, as well as really good food. Bailey's is a totally different scene, but still one of my favorite places in Portland. Here, there is no patio. But, that's totally fine, because you'll want to plop down at the bar and have a view of the Beer Screen from Heaven. Want to know what's on tap? You'll get that info, and so much more, just by glancing at the screen. Beer style, ABV, and how much is left of each brew, AND what's tapping next, AAAAND some relevant social network stuff all on one screen, yet totally easy to read and not cluttered. Um, why doesn't every bar have this system? Major points, Bailey's. Here's the kicker -- they don't even serve food, yet they get 5 stars from me. How can that be? I'm a notoriously hungry hungry hippo, and alcohol only exacerbates the problem. Well, you can get Santeria's $9 gargantuan chimichangas (or anything else off their menu) delivered right to your seat at Bailey's. It's really the best of both worlds, because I freaking love Santeria's food. If you do get food delivered here, be polite and bus your dishes to the tub by the entrance. Probably what I love most about this place is the constantly changing selection. I rarely visit the same place repeatedly, but Bailey's will keep me coming back just because they always keep it fresh. Also, lots of bars in Portland can boast 24 taps, but when 20 of them are pouring IPAs, I'm not really interested. This is never the case at Bailey's -- they have great variety in their offerings. Just writing this review makes me want to go back here immediately. I know they'll have some incredible beers on tap that weren't there yesterday, and this is a seriously smart way to try a lot of local and not-so-local beers from top-notch breweries.

Bailey's Taproom is probably my favorite beer bar EVER. I think I came here per Rebekah T.'s review and I am so very glad that I was able to have the chance to go while in PDX. Their electronic menu is very innovative and makes it quite easy to find the right beer for you. I ended up getting the Vertigo Tropical Heatwave. It had the right amount of heat to it and would pair nicely with an Italian sausage. I don't remember what my mom had ordered, but what she got was very good. Another great thing about Bailey's is that they have Ale Industries on tap. It was nice to see a brewery from my hometown on their menu. Definitely go to Bailey's when in Portland! They also have board games and you can order food from the Mexican place right next door.

These guys are truly one of the most underrated beer bars in Portland. They get the crowd, and I am sure most of the local beer nerds are fully aware of them. But I'm always surprised by how many people I talk to who plan a Portland trip and are unaware of this place. If you're heading to this town for beer, you need to visit here. Period. There's nothing too special about the spot itself; it's a room full of tables, chairs, and banquettes, with a couple bistro tables outside. The whole thing is a big triangle, which makes the bar kind of a peculiar shape (this is only a hassle when it's super crowded). They run about two dozen taps, which focus heavily on OR, then layer in more good stuff from progressively farther away (i.e., more CA beers than east coast, with Europe being the least represented). Their bottle list is good but not spectacular for the most part, with about 80-90 selections offered. The tap list is all good, with the occasional spectacular beer thrown in. The service here is friendly and funny and cool, and definitely well-versed on beers. Prices are not for the bargain-hunter, but they are definitely not exorbitant by any means. It had been a few years since my last trip, but I was glad to get in here this weekend. They poured us the beer of the weekend for this trip--the Upright Anniversary Saison. Damn good stuff.

I have never seen such cheap beer in my entire life. It costed 2 dollars for a 10 oz glass of any of their beers which include imperial stouts, IPAs etc. The service was great and I wish I could remember what I ordered but that only means it was a pretty fun place. The bartenders were super friendly and shared some stories since we were out of towners. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting a beer and chill vibes. It was also located on a corner which made great for people watching if you're into that sort of thing also :).

I liked the beer, but was confused about food. The person next to me got food, but when I asked the bartender about a food menu he just told me that they don't have food. Nothing helpful about the correct way to acquire food. I guess one must know the system to be part of it. The beer selection is on a screen behind the bar, which I found hard to read (even before drinking). They were busy enough I didn't want to ask too many questions of the bartender, but thier system is hard on us with bad vision.

Bailey's is my favorite bar in Portland, and I'm not alone in this sentiment. Having now stopped by on multiple occasions, the only real downside that I can find to Bailey's Taproom is that it is popular. If you go during peak hours, you're going to struggle to find a place to sit. But the popularity of Bailey's has everything to do with the fact that it is SO GOOD. Seriously, what's not to love? 20+ local and craft beers on constantly rotating taps, ranging in style from light to dark, and sweet to hoppy. If you're so picky that none of these meet your fancy, there are more bottled beers on the menu, and different kegs in the queue (the trick is to figure out which current keg is closest to empty, then convince your friends to DRINK IT ALL). You can also track what is currently on tap on their website and come in when specific beers are tapped. If you'd rather sample, they offer every beer in a larger and smaller size (specifics vary based on the type and strength of beers). With a place like this with the excellent selection that they typically have, I find it's often more fun to have several small glasses than one or two large glasses. The only reason I don't make the claim that Bailey's Taproom is the best bar in PDX is the quality of competition. But when it's all said and done, Bailey's makes a strong case for being the best in town.

Awesome. This place is by far the best and friendliest taproom in Portland and always at the top of my list when friends or visitors are asking where to go for a great selection of Northwest beers. With around 20 taps they have plenty of styles to choose from, and each one will be a stellar example of it's style. The staff is very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about beers and can surely and gladly guide you to a beer you will love. Pro tip: They allow outside food, so grab a bite at the food carts and bring it in.

  • Ken J.

Still the best beer bar in town! Gets crowded right after quitting time and on weekend evenings but I won't hold their popularity against them. Love the ambiance they're cultivated, even more impressive that a place like this exists in this part of town.

Long time favorite for a too infrequent visitor of Portland. Back in the day... when they had the low seats, laminated menu cards & they'd loan you the phone to call over to Santerias... Very pleased they're continuing to do well. The quintessential beer lovers paradise. You will not disappointed. Good music, pleasant staff, good vibes and awesome beer. You owe it to yourself try at least one of their recommendations.

  • June T.

Bailey's is chill, the beer selection is vast and often very exciting (and taps rotate quickly!) and the bartenders are kindly, knowledgeable folks who go out of their way to not be condescending to those of us who don't know much about beer (like my mom visiting from Palo Alto) and who have to ask a million kind of annoying questions (like my out of town mom.) The digital screen serves as a bleak reminder that we live in a world of inescapable screens, but other than that, Bailey's is a good place to stop with your visiting friends and relatives since it's a real crowd-pleaser, the beer is fairly priced, and it's a nice spot on the "here's downtown Portland" tour I give visitors. Going out downtown for the nightlife is not something I do regularly, but if I did, I'd be going to Bailey's a lot more so I can get my paws on all the yummy beers that come through!

Cool beer flights, huge variety and love the electronic display that you just rattle off some #s and it literally shows you what's almost done or not so you can jump on it again if you liked it. Friendly bartender who helped put together a flight as well if you're not sure what you want to try.

Nice place but the beer selections suck. I had four beers and one was good. Yelp wants me to write more in order to make this review instead of a tip, so I will go on and on about the beers that they selected. This place has the same beer kind of pouring mechanism as my local growler place. The reality though is that the mechanism of pouring doesn't matter, but the beers that are selected do. The beers they were selected at this place, are substandard and suck. I brought my business partner here as we were in town for business. We ordered for beers, and only the first one was good. Now that I have gone on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on I really hope that Yelp will allow this review to post. Yelp is really starting to suck, since they went public. Now I can't check in. Now I can't give reviews without a certain amount of text. So now you have lots of text. But all it says is: the beer selections suck.

The barely bartender with a combover hipster haircut who claimed he was the OWNER of Bailey's told my party of 9 beer sales distribution representatives and managers in town from Los Angeles to get out of the way because we were blocking business at the bar (there was no one behind us or we would have bought them a beer on our tab) Obviously beer folk from out of town don't matter to this establishment and the 20 breweries I represent I will encourage to not sell to this place. Good luck "owner!" On the plus side, our bartender and the beer list were stellar but if this really was the owner I hope he goes down in flames. Bad juju for Portland.

Dig it, daddy. This is a great spot to take a visiting beer-lover (my most recent trip was with my brother) that's convenient, slick, cool, and fun. Gets packed on Fri/Sat nights, but generally manageable. These dudes. Know. Their. Beer. First, check the screens, or as Melvin calls them, super accurately: scoreboards. Everything you need to know is listed, including keg level. Good if you wanna put down about 12 of those Oakshire Patriot Porters... but notice they might be out in a couple of pints. If you're like me and the screens are too much information, just ask anyone working for recommendations based on your taste and they are happy to help. Tricky to get up to the bar when it is busy; gets super loud in there, too. Not something that bothers me, but to be noted if you're seeking quiet. The spot itself is cool, close enough to Mary's and Santeria as you can get! Don't worry, I won't tell. Prost!

  • Karla R.

This place caught me by surprise.. It's like a mini stock exchange of beer from the west coast. They do not brew their own beer which was a disappointment but they have a variety selection of brew to choose from! And I would defiantly recommend this place to check out.

When it's fall in Portland, it's fresh hop season The electronic draft list has little nuggets next to each fresh hopped beer. If you enjoy this as much as I do, you're coming here and you're going to have to cab or leg it home.

I love beer. This place has a lot of beer. You probably love beer too if you're reading this review and contemplating if you should come to Bailey's Taproom. The answer is: Yes, you must. Bailey's is the future of brew and brew lovers. It's a place where like minded people can gather and enjoy a shit ton of beer, and only beer. The monitors that tell you the status of the kegs and I felt like a big kid in a candy store. I get to choose all these awesome brews and nobody could stop me. It was a powerful experience. The service is friendly and super helpful. Just tell the guys at the cashier what type of beer you like and don't like, and they'll happily recommend you a great selection.

Fun place, great energy and somehow we ended up there 2xs in our short visit. Small and quaint. Favorite beer was #18. Pub doesn't serve food but you can from a nearby restaurant and they will bring it to you. Highly recommend.

a taphouse with a large rotating draft beer selection. They also have common and rare bottled beers. This place is always busy-anytime after 4 ish. Great place to try the latest brew. Staff is knowledgeable and efficient. They have a new-ish addition upstairs called the Upper Lip for special events. Good view. No food here.

Love the set up of this spot. So many beers on tap, and you can create a tasting flight out of any of them. Love that you can see how much of a given beer is left via digital display - clever. Love that there are board games, though we did not partake. It was a great, sunny, summer afternoon, and we basked in all the natural light and got a nice little buzz on while people watching and chatting. Really a great spot to go if you don't know what kind of beer you might like, but you know you want local. The space was a nice mix of industrial, but warm, with the concrete and wood. You can order Mexican from the place next door if you need something to soak up all that beer - the nachos looked amazing.

This was my favorite place to get beer-until today. Bill had a bad attitude after he gave me glasses instead of tasters and didn't want to change it or tell me what they were. This is the first time I have had this experience here-and hopefully the last, or we will find a new favorite!

Tremendous selection that can be almost overwhelming. The staff is pretty accommodating. I came in on a Monday night and it got crowded pretty quickly. I can only imagine that this place gets pretty crazy on the weekend. I wish this place served food but the Mexican place across the street seems used to customers who order food to eat there.

Nice place to grab some beers, sit outside chat with friends and play an array of board games they have on offer. I believe you also order food from Santeria next door. The beer selection is more than decent!

  • Neha H.

This place is amazing. Seriously probably the best taproom I've ever been to (and I've lived all over the country!). They've got about 25 taps, and you can check the current offerings online (AND how full the keg is for each) before coming in if you want to try a particular beer. They'll give you a sample before you order so you never have to worry about experimenting with something new and hating it, which is awesome since they get tons of unique offerings with unusual ingredients. They also have an extensive bottle list on the off chance that there's nothing on the draft list that appeals to you. It's a great place to hang out as they have a bunch of board games, and while they don't serve food, you can bring food with you from anywhere. Bartenders are great - super knowledgable but not obnoxious about it. And you can also get growler fills to go on all but the strongest of the beers, which is a really good deal (works out to about $2/pint).

    (5)
  • Jeff S.

Fantastic beer bar offering unique craft microbrews at very cost-friendly prices. $9 for a flight, which contains any five samples of their 20+ brews. Pints range from $3 to $6. Real dope IPAs, some tasty stouts as well. Interior isn't that large, but definitely spacious enough and ppl move in and out at a decent turnover rate. If there's anything that'll make me want to move to the Pacific Northwest, it's breweries like this. If you're ever in the downtown area and are debating which brewery to hit up, just stop it and go to Bailey's.

  • Leanne P.

This place is so fun! It is a beer lovers dream. They offer about 30 beers on tap at any given time, and they are constantly changing. Bailey's taproom does not serve food, however, you can order from the Mexican place across the street. They will bring food over to you and even come back and buss the tables.

Holy moly this place is going on my forever to do list in Portland. Fun fun night! We came during the Snowpocolypse or Snowmagedon or Blizzard of '14 whatever they're calling it. Every seat in the tap room was occupied and I don't know if this was a scheduled thing, but nearly every table was playing a board game. Thus, we promptly ordered drinks and started playing "Heads up". There were plugs behind our seats to recharge our rapidly dying phones (a major plus when on vacation). It was just a good fun, friendly vibe inside the place. Plus, they had the cutest pint glasses and t-shirts available for purchase. Our group definitely got some souvenirs. Their tap list was displayed on this huge LCD TV and it showed the available sizes, pricing, type of beer and location/brewery, but also what you could buy as a keg (I think) and at the top their was a scrolling bar that showed the social media that was happening at the Tap Room. Pretty interesting marketing idea.

  • Rebekah T.

I love Bailey's Tap Room. It is by far my favorite, non-brewery beer bar in Portland. The beer is high quality, smart and they have a great mixture of beers on taps and in bottles. The electronic board keeps you up on what's on tap. You can see the keg levels so you know when something is gonna change. We came here a lot this last trip, mostly because it's a great place to meet up with good friends and have really good beer. We also bought a few bottles here to take home. There isn't anything more satisfying than getting home and cracking open one of your Souvin-beers. Just a little of Portland back at home.

  • Brittini S.

Another one of my favorite brew spots in Portland. They have lots of different choices and make your own flights. They even sell their beer glasses as a cool souvenir for $3. They have board games and nice open windows and a small outdoor area to people watch. All and all a good spot to have a brew.

Bailey's is a fun place to hang! They have a pretty extensive and impressive menu of beers and ciders, which is displayed on a digital screen. When they run out of one selection, they replace it with another. Bartender was honest when you ask for his opinion on beers (even managing to sell a "good, but not great" brew to a customer!). Pours were great here as was the pricing. Small sizes range from about $3-5, while the pints range from $5-8ish? Small sizes were still pretty large, but are great because you can try a variety of different things. This bar also had a few board games (with more than a few missing pieces), but we made due with bananagrams. We had to figure out substitute parts for Battleship, but no matter. Come here for the cheap & cold brews, the friendly & knowledgable bartender, and the fun and incomplete board games!

    (5)
  • Jess W.

The selection here is extensive and brilliant... like literally, they had digital taps with a flashy electronic menu/display. What?! So cool. The staff was chill, kind, knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. Stuff runs out fast, so if you want something, just get it now! What I appreciated was that they replace beers with other ones, they never truly ran out on a tap. Love it. Many of the beers were also available in different sizes which is amazeballs! Why can't all places be like that? 2 private bathrooms, a decent selection of board games (yay, board games! I think we were the only ones playing...), and moderate amount of seating. We came on a cold Sunday evening and it was nearing capacity. Tables may be a little sticky, beware! Open a tab, grab a pint, grab a board game, and relaaaaaax. (Powell's Books flagship store is only a few blocks away! We took a quick walk and came back to the taproom to continue relaxing. I don't know... burn off a few, right?) We stayed past closing, but they didn't rush us or kick us out. So nice! I will return!!

As a visitor to Portland, I was pretty excited to try this place out, several locals highly recommended it. When my boyfriend and I got there, we couldn't help but feel stuffy.. There was a funk in the air, could be the smell of spilt beer, too many people, or just lack of ventilation. I was not highly impressed with the selection of beer (I was told that place had a LOT of really good choices). I was impressed with the up to date board.. The list of beer showed exactly how much was left per keg, which was really cool. The guy helping us out was really friendly. Overall it was cool, but I will probably check out other places to get beer.

Great small beer bar with a wide selection. They offer both full and half pours of all their beers, many of which are from local Oregon breweries. It was a great way to get a sampling of a bunch of breweries on a short weekend trip. It definitely seemed like there were plenty of locals, always a good sign. There isn't a whole lot more to this place, no food menu but you can get delivery/takeout from nearby restaurants (we didn't really look into this much). Small, simple and to the point (which is beer). If you're a fan of beer and in Portland, you owe it to yourself to stop by Bailey's

Lovin the beer selection they showcase on their one and only tv (no shows, no games, strictly beer). The ambiance is great, super casual, very cool for a couple beers with some friends in town or visiting or just chillin with your significant other. Let's just say if you live in Portland, you love beer, and you haven't been here... You need to get your priorities in order.

Bailey's is my boyfriend and I's spot. It's cheap and they always have great selection of beer. I love their beer monitor and how chill it is once you get posted. The only issue I have is space...when it's the peak hours, it's hard to find a place to sit or hang out. It ends up being an awkward post in the middle of the bar right in between people lining up for there orders of booz. Other than the space, this is my kind of spot!

I am a HUGE fan of Bailey's, and I just realized I have yet to demonstrate this with a yelp review. There are always interesting beers to try, and it's a perfect atmosphere - casual, comfortable, fun. Sometimes you have to fight for a table, but it's worth it. Although I do recommend stopping in during the week also... I seriously can't get enough of this place! I even occasionally wish they had a later last call (although generally 12 is late enough for me). It's also convenient that they have a close relationship with Santeria next door because sometimes I just can't bring myself to leave and get food elsewhere.

Beer. Just beer. Twenty taps of beer, most available in their appropriate full or half-sizes, with a fantastically informative illustration of how full the keg remains. So you can, you know, strategically choose your sips and select the endangered over the introduced species. The selection's pretty good: you've got some international and cult favorites (two Evil Twins on tap when I visited), some domestic microbrewery heavyweights (like New Belgium or Deschutes), some smaller Oregon breweries (Breakside, The Commons), and an additional smattering of PNW/West Coast micros. There's a cider on tap as well, plus a 90+-deep bottle list that follows a similar breakdown. There's no food here (but clearly the Mexican restaurant across the alley is recommended for delivery!), and it gets very busy, so plan accordingly. But midweek later in the evening we had no problem snagging a few barstools right away, and then moving to a small table later in the night. I wouldn't necessarily brave a long line to drink here, but I'll be stalking their taplist feed to see what's coming and demanding a visit and a drink. Big bonus points for my fellow Untappd users: there's a cool scrolling check-in ticker above the tap list, so you'll see your avatar and your beer roll on by while you're at the register ordering up your next one. Choose wisely!

Lots of beer, cool vibe. But don't come here because it's almost too hard to find a seat already. They don't serve food but there are several businesses in the area that deliver. Pro Tip: there is an upstairs specializing in rare and international beers.

Such a fantastic location for so many occasions. Whether you want an cozy, intimate date spot, a place to chill and listen to good tunes, or belly up and make new friends; this is the spot to do so. Beer selection is the best in SW and location is ideal for out-of-towners, or Friday night pre-gaming.

Great spot to quench your thirst in Portland. They have numerous beers on tap, they are switched out every so often (not sure of the time table). The beers are cheep too, I believe $4.50 for a pint (of good beer too). I'm used to playing like $8.00 for regular beer you can buy at the store, so this is awesome. The bartenders are nice and can help you select something if you're new/overwhelmed with all the choices. If you are visiting and want to drink where the locals drink and meet a few, this is the place to go. The music playlist is awesome, mixing a bunch of different old and new genres. There are also plenty of board games to play while drinking.

If you love beer and you don't love this place, there is something seriously wrong with you! This is a beer lovers heaven. They have a digital board that even gives you the current cask levels of each beer! Not only that but they give you a 20 oz pint for $5 and they also have 10 oz beers for about half that. Of course, the beer selection is excellent. I didn't find a spot that had better beer than this place. We actually ended up here 3 times or more during our trip (it helped that our hotel was only a block away). The vibe here is very cool but man, is it crowded! Make sure to snag an empty table when you can otherwise you'll be standing a while.

Great place to hideaway and drink high quality beer downtown. In a casual, order-at-the counter format, the bartenders are great in letting you try a sample pour however aren't the best at making any recommendations. Good place to even bring a book or laptop while you enjoy your beer. Ordering food to go at Santeria is an even better idea. Wish they had more local beer on tap than they do.

Whoah! Come here if you want some mother trucking CHOICE! Lot's of good beer on tap. Order off the the Star Trek Enterprise beer science screen. Give the man some scrilla and a tip and go sit down and converse with friends, coworkers, that ex you REALLY want to tap one more time, etc. God help you if you need to park a Suburban around there! This place is RIGHT Downtown! People watchers paradise, FYI. Lot of big windows looking out on a lot of characters. Remember though, some things can't be unseen! Bottom line- Lot of beer, affordable, cool ordering screen that makes you feel like you're on a space ship. SOLD!

If you're a beer enthusiast who loves trying different brews, Bailey's is the place for you. Their rotating tap (and bottle shop!) is always stocked with new and excellent beers.

This is the place for beer enthusiasts. BEST tap room in PDX! It's fresh and always changing it up. You'll always have one nitro and one cider by default [that alone is amaze-balls!!!], and then all the other 22 hand picked characters of craft brews that your micro heart desires! Also, they display ABV, and beer levels on a big screen just for your convenience. Then, you get the choice of pint or 10 0z. incase you just want to continue sampling brewskis for $2-3 instead of the price of the full pint. I suggest you sample as much as you want before you choose, or whatever, just get the sampler. Grab a board game, and attempt to impress your date while hammered, or chill at the bar and be all techy with your gadget next to the big screen and read the the networking tweets. Tune in and enjoy a real hip hop playlist as you turn up with your drinking games. If you're not one for being inside a lively room of alcoholics, then order from Santeria's Mexican joint and they bring the food over to you, and you can sit anti-socialized outside, but if you change your mind you're welcome to bring it inside too. Before you leave be sure to fill up on a growler to avoid waking up sad and missing Bailey's.

This place is cool. They have all sorts of beer and the bartenders know their stuff. They have a cool system where you could leave your tab open, but they give you your card back (therefore, if you forget to close it and leave you didn't leave your card behind). This obviously happened to me. They also have board games, which is just AWESOME, but the options are not much. My group gets carried away when there are games around, and the bartender had to ask us to keep it down, so we did. It was odd though, how do you tell your customers at a bar to keep it down???

  • Kimmie L.

We had a blast here! They had 21 craft beers on tap, many of them local. We ordered food from a Mexican restaurant across the street and they delivered right to our table. Beer enthusiasts should make this a stop.

Tons of beers to choose from with something for everyone! Just wish they had a little appetizer menu or something to nibble on while you drink. On the plus side, you can bring in outside food

ATMOSPHERE: Pretty nice, but certain elements have a phony corporate feel, like what you'd expect to see if Starbucks got into beer. Still, it's a comfortable cozy place. Small, but nice variety of seating, including some cool little nooks for small groups. Tends to get extremely loud/crowded after 5:00, but at slow times (I like Saturday afternoon) it's a nice place to hang out, chat, read, watch the world go by. Music tends to be interesting. Not a place to go if you want to watch "the game" on TV. SERVICE: Always good. I like all the servers here. They seem a little too distracted by their phones though (kids these days). FOOD: Bring your own. Several places nearby. BEER: Good variety of styles, something for everybody. And they get products I haven't seen elsewhere. PRICE/VALUE: Surprisingly good, considering the rent here must be staggering. If you like small pours, they do that (10oz on regular beers, 4oz on premium beers). RESTROOMS: Two, single occupancy. Not at all unpleasant. Line can get pretty bad, and snakes through the crowded bar, right past seated patrons. Yeah, a little awkward. But I did have a fascinating conversation with a table while waiting in the restroom line, so it's not all bad. OVERALL: Possibly Portland's best beer bar. I don't love the after-five crowd, but even then it can be interesting, and unlike anyplace else.

Came here for a couple beers last night. They have a awesome selection of craft beers, a lot of them local. The beer list even has meters that shows how much of a beer is left in real time! So if your dying to try a specific beer you know to grab it before it runs out. You can even check online to see what's on tap. They don't have food there. But, Santeria, a Mexican joint right across the street will deliver the food to you! Pretty convenient. This place is a must in portland for craft beer lovers!

  • Meredith E.

Due to the rapidly changing beer menu, Baileys uses a QR code on their coaster to give the most up to date tap and bottle list. They had a lot of rare brews at decent prices. The bartender was stellar and conversational. What a great beer bar! Then we got hungry and noticed people eating around us, even though Baileys does not serve food. The Mexican restaurant across the street offers a full service delivery (including real plates and bussing). Baileys is a must visit for all craft beer lovers!

The Occidental Hefeweizen is delicious. The barkeep is super friendly The beer selection is vast, and is displayed on a really helpful, digital menu. They also have a beer sampler here.

From out of town and this place was recommended by the front desk at my hotel. As I was unfamiliar with the local beers, I asked the bartender to make me a flight of his 5 favorites from the 20 on tap, staying clear of the hoppy stuff. A great flight of 5 4-oz beers at a very reasonable price. Very comfortable seating, and relaxing atmosphere. Great venue and a great choice; I'll come back on my next trip to Portland.

This is a great place to jump in and grab a really good brew or maybe even two. It's urban, often packed, and some of the best beers in a beer town.

Heard about this place on a TV show about beer in the US. Bailey was the name of my fiance's most recent dog, so I knew we had to come here. We ended up staying around the corner (at the Nines), so we stopped in for a night cap. The high-tech display board showing the status of each keg (when it was tapped, how much was left, etc). I picked a golden ale for her and got a Occidental Rauchbier for myself. We both enjoyed our selections! I tried to grab a board game to play, but both of the games I grabbed were missing pieces. I guess that's what happens when you try to get a game from Goodwill (according to the sticker on the cover). I wish the games were fully stocked, but that's that. Would definitely come here again. If I lived closer to this place, I'd probably be in 3 or 4 times a week. They always have some cool and interesting beers coming into rotation!

    (4)
  • Tiffany K.

Menu is very cool. Gives WAY more info than the average board. Shows ABV, IBU's, price, style of glass it is served in, and how much is left in the keg. they also do half pours, which is great if you wanna try a few and its not your first stop on your brewery tour list! It was packed when we went, but it was a Friday night so what can you expect from a cool pub.

  • Jaime D.

i really loved the different size beer cups you can choose, allowing you to try many of their beers. they also had great choices of beer. now they don't serve any beer BUT they are cool with you bringing something to eat at the place which is cool. definitely would come back.

Bailey's Tap house is a really nice tap house, the beers and the rotating taps are very good. I like the big flat screens that provide all the info on the beer, origin, alcohol, and hops rating. The staff was very friendly and informative. From what I was told the On Tap app can be downloaded to make your taproom experience enhanced, and can be used for taprooms all over Portland. Across the way is some bomb ass Mexican food at Santareia, they can also have the food brought right to Bailey's, which can allow you to skip their long waits while enjoying good beers.

  • Candice Z.

Bailey's is a must stop when you come to Portland. They always have new and interesting beers on tap, and usually a cider or two. There's also a small bottle list which usually has at least one gluten free beer. The employees are super nice and knowledgeable about the beers they're serving and are always willing to recommend something new to try. If you're hungry you can order food from the Mexican restaurant across the street and they'll deliver it to you. There's also lots of board games to play while you enjoy a few beers. I especially recommend the old school Hangman from the 80's/90's!

Simply the best beer hall in existence. The menu closely resembles a horse racing betting board alerting you to how near your new found favorite is to being empty- order quickly.

I can't give a stellar review of Bailey's Taproom (at least I don't think I can) because I'm not a huge beer drinker. But I am a huge "going out and enjoying the city-er," which I think gives me some kind of credibility. I've heard so many awesome things about Bailey's - tons of good beer, served by knowledgeable bartenders. I always knew it as that spot I drove by while taking the turn from Burnside to Broadway. It always seemed to be bustling; and the bar is all glass (so you can see inside), and it's actually a very pretty space. When I finally got the chance to go, I was pleasantly surprised by all the warmth - even though it's on Broadway and in a weird foot-traffic area, it still seemed like an intimate place to share a drink with a friend. I would definitely come back soon; and, coming from a seldom-beer drinker, this is kind of a big deal for me!

No nonsense beer room with a laid back vibe and a huge selection of beers on tap and from the bottle. Fun to do the sampler, they give you a slip of paper to write your selections on that you pick from a big monitor that gives you information about the current beers on tap. You can also view the current on tap beers using your phone at their website. Mexican restaurant across the street delivers if you are hungry. Total win! Cheers!

Bailey's was my first brewery experience in Portland, and it turned out to be my favorite location of the night. My friend and I were visiting Portland for a few days and stumbled across Bailey's through Yelp. Although the place is not too large and it definitely can get crowded, the set up was nice and their menu has an emphasis on Oregon breweries if you're looking for that local experience. Another plus for the clean bathrooms. There's a pretty extensive and impressive list of beers and ciders on tap that constantly rotate and the bartenders seemed friendly and willing to share their recommendations. The drinks come in two sizes, which is nice in case you end up deciding to try other choices as well. Great place where you can try out new brews and chill with friends in a laid back atmosphere!

  • Mary M.

A great Portland beer bar. All the beers are listed on a digital screen, which tells the brewery (and city of origin), beer, size, price, and even the color of the beer and how much is left in the keg! Plus you can choose between two pour sizes (the exact ounces depend on the specific beer, usually smaller pours for higher ABV). The bar has a little section for ordering beer and paying, so you don't have to shout over peoples shoulders to the bartender. My favorite parts about Bailey's are the prices (really really amazing beer for a fair price), the board games (!), and the selection. Also if you like to go out to eat, Bailey's does not have a food menu, but Santeria, the mexican place across the street, will deliver here!

Baileys has real time keg fullness on their website and an alternating tap list. Plays cool music and has board games. It was fun to come here late nate and chat. Close to our hotel in downtown portland.

I love that beer board! Great selection and cool space to hang out in. Except last time there were this older couple totally macking on each other. Like...here, taste the beer I ordered through my mouth because my saliva really balances out those hops. Mm, yes dear, I am getting those woodsy notes right away. Try mine now, slobber slobber slobber. Ordering at the "bar" is a little weird, it's more of a counter. I'm not really complaining though as long as they keep the beer flowing!

This place is superfantastic. My friends and I literally stumbled upon it one afternoon while out shopping. A patron on the patio just stated conversationally that the beer was great as we passed and we walked right it. The bartender was helpful and not at all pretentious towards my one friend who is NOT A BEER LOVER - he actually helped her discover the only beer she has ever genuinely liked. Great beer, great prices, and super helpful staff annnnd clientele.

wow. rotating taps daily?! insanity. i did the $10 beer-tasting w/ my friend. i don't know if it was because we were full from dinner (most probable cause), but we were hella full after the beer-tasting! we googled the menu and chose the ones with the best ratings (or at least 8 and above). fell in love with IPAs... !!! && fell even more in love with Portland! I should've gotten the bartender's name b/c he was aweeeesome! he was working the full bar and also kept attention to us with all of our touristy + beer-noob-like questions. The place is dark but spacious. We sat at the bar but there are tables as well. To be honest, I was just amazed at the beer selection so that's all I can write a review about. long paragraph short -- amazing beer selection. Just go the website below for the selection for that day: baileystaproom.com/draft…

Easily my favorite place to grab a beer in PDX. There's so much to like about this place, it's hard to narrow it down. Most importantly, the tap list is always killer. Bailey's generally has beers from all around the NW (and beyond), in a very wide variety of styles. From easy drinking beers to high gravity, barrel aged, sours, etc. The size selection at Bailey's is also key. One of the few places where you have a 10oz or a 20oz option. The 10oz pours are great to give you a chance to sample more of the beers in one visit. The bartenders are also very well informed, and are masters at suggesting beers for any overwhelmed patrons. Another one of my favorite things about Bailey's is the video monitor menu. This is what really sets Bailey's apart from the rest. Each beer is shown on the menu with helpful info like ABV, style (often with add'l info), general color and glass, where the beer is made (brewery & city/state), and even how much is left in the keg. Beyond that, the board shows check-ins from Twitter, Foursquare, Instagram, and untappd. Not all is perfect, though... the space and seating are limited, and it can get packed. The food situation leaves something to be desired, but if you do manage to get an order accomplished from Santaria across the street, it's worth the hassle.

i like having the drinks on tap available right up front...makes ordering easy. not too much seats in the place. bathrooms are unisex, but there are two of them.

Bailey's Taproom is a wonderful bar that's located right downtown, so if you're going out for a night odds are you'll end up very close to this little gem. The Taproom always has a rotating tap of awesome beers, so if that's your scene this will be the mother load. However, they only serve beer, so if you're interested in a cocktail then you're out of luck. The beer list is always new and exciting so every visit will be a little different. Most of the brews I've seen are from the surrounding area which means you'll be buying local as well, so that's pretty cool. Feel free to ask for samples, they'll give you a taste of anything to help you decide which is always appreciated. My only complaint is that on a busy night this place is BUSY in every sense of the word. It'll be difficult to find a seat and it can be pretty noisy. To counteract this I only go during the week. Thursdays are always good. But regardless, be sure to check this place out, it's a great time and has a nice vibe to it!

  • Bridget L.

Very fetch little spot with a menu board that you can stare at for five hours without being board. No pun intended. The cider is delicious. Board shows which beers are low on tap. Service was good. I'd def come back.

  • Valerie W.

Bailey's Taproom is pretty great, but I wish it were a larger establishment. It's hard to maneuver around the people to either grab a beer or head to the restroom. +1 star for plenty of awesome beers that are displayed digitally....price, ABV, color, and whether or not it was just tapped...pretty cool. +1 star for the fact that you can order food from Santeria in there. +1 for knowledgeable staff and they have a few board games to play Dimly lit this place is nice to just sit back and have a few. It is quite loud however if you are there on a weekend. Beers are moderately priced. Approx. $2.50 for a 10oz and around $5 for a pint.

  • John Z.

Unquestionably THE beer bar for beer geeks in Portland. If you are looking to take in a sampling of the best PDX has to offer beer-wise, this is the place for you. The staff is second to none and it has a beer menu that is computerized and has a real-time display of all beers on tap. Don't expect to find the everyday drafts of PDX like Mirror Pond (no disrespect, I love Mirror Pond and Deschutes) or any macro offerings. They feature drafts and bottles of niche beers from around the country. From sours to stouts, and beyond you will find beers here that you will not see anywhere else other than the breweries thy brew them. A don't miss when you are in the Rose City.

  • Kamila B.

My go-to place for beer. The digital tap monitor is awesome and indicates the color of the beer, ABV and IBU, and how much is left in the keg. I think the management does an exceptional job of keeping a variety of beers on tap (I'm so tired of having 10 IPA options!!), and I can always find a few that I really enjoy and most often have never seen elsewhere. The smaller serving options are nice for saving money and tasting without getting stuck with a whole pint and not having room for the three other beers you want to try. My only issue: food options are served by Santeria, yuck!

    (4)
  • Matty P.

Came here twice during our weekend, that is how perfect a spot it is. Awesome that they have cheap 10 ouncers. Great selection. Fantastic service. You can even get food delivered to you from across the street at this place. Just an awesome place to drink beer with friends.

    (5)
  • Arthur K.

I love the concept of this place. It's great that they only carry a keg of any beer at a time and then when it's out they change their tap into a new beer. The screen tells you what they have on tap and it even shows you how many beers are left of each keg. The only 2 drawbacks are that the lines for the restroom can get ridiculously long. When you've been knocking back beers, you tend to have to go a lot. Also, the line can be a little slow when it starts to get packed so you can expect a bit of a wait on busy nights in between pints as they don't have a server going around.

    (5)
  • Shawna B.

Favorite bar in Portland! When you first walk in you'll notice the electronic tap list which displays the different beers they have on tap AND how much is left in each keg. Really cool! They have a great selection of beers on tap (20 I think?), and usually offer at least one cask or nitro. The prices are really good and they offer a flight of 5 beers if you can't pick just one! They don't serve any other type of alcohol besides beer, so if you're jonesing for a slippery nipple you're outta luck. If you're hungry you can order food from Santeria across the street. The food is delicious, cheap, and they'll deliver it right to you table at Bailey's!

  • Kristen M.

One of my favorite places to get a good beer. Constantly rotating taps, which are all displayed on their website. Hurry in, however, because their beers run out quickly...but don't worry, they are always adding something else. Good prices, especially for downtown and friendly service.

  • James O.

I drink a lot of beer in portland and naturally go to a lot of brew pub/tap houses. But Bailey's is by far my favorite place to go. I come here every week (often twice a week) and it never gets old. It does get crowded, though. But the constantly rotating selection of amazing brews is worth it every time. Plus-it's not crowded with hardcore hipsters, making it that much more enjoyable. I love this place and recommend it to anyone in portland.

  • Jessica G.

Great atmosphere, awesome knowledgeable and friendly bartender and good customers too. My husband and I went in here late on a Sunday, 10pmish to grab a beer and there were five people from the neighborhood sitting at the bar. We grabbed seats and they all immediately starting asking what we liked and then had us tasting four or five different brews with the bartender. A good fun, social scene and also great beer. You can get all geeked out on beer info with their electronic keg-o-meter display (ok I know there is a real beer snob name for this, but that's my husband's department, not mine!) or just kick back and people watch out the windows too. They also have the option of getting a half pint too which is a great way to get a decent taste of a few beers for less money!

    (5)
  • MirMack M.

It's all about beer. The monitor behind the counter gives all the beer stats including how much is left in the keg, and a running ticker of untapped check ins. I recommend ordering a flight so that you can taste more beers. Bring your own food in or you can order from the Mexican restaurant across the street. Some outdoor seating.

With its reputation as a craft-brewing mecca, Portland offers plenty of stellar options for bars, ranging from the eclectic to the alternative, but Bailey's Taproom might just have the most innovative setup of them all, with an interactive menu showing real-time status of the beers on tap and a streaming list of those who have checked in via social media. Now, there are only twenty beers on tap on any given day, but their quality and price are unmatched. In fact, the owner has not changed his prices since Bailey's first opened. I would also highly recommend getting the small pours, in order to taste as much variety as you can, as a flight of five will run around $9 to $10. In the end, Bailey's is my favorite bar in Portland. It has an energetic vibe, a great selection, and an impressive setup.

Great selection of beers. Friendly staff. Boardgames and you can bring in food. A little small though and can fill up with the downtown crowd after work.

  • Josef S.

Bailey's is indeed a taproom. A soulless room with a lot of taps. Which is fine, if you aspire to drink beer - albeit very good beer - in a generic cafe with indifferent service and customers who look like they've never seen the interior of an actual bar. First impression, at any rate.

    (2)
  • Madison P.

Bailey's has a wide range of options and a rotating tap. Cool chess boards painted onto some of the tables. Gets crowded on weekend nights but still worth it to stop by. The prices are good and the staff is friendly and attentive.

Like to try interesting beers? Just go. I had an amazing Oregon beer made with local cherries, 10 Barrel Cherry Tart. On tap. Want more traditional IPAs. Plenty of options! A really great beer bar, yet low key and friendly. Special place.

The LCD monitor showing the beers they have (and how much they have of it!) is off the charts on the gee-whiz scale. Really an outstanding selection of craft brews.

I love hanging out here, drinking fantastic, sometimes obscure PNW beers and chatting with folks at the bar - both the staff (who know me by name at this point) and the large percentage of visiting beer geeks. I love watching them walk in, look at the taplist screen, and watch their jaws drop. The fact that you can call Santeria across the street and have them bring you fresh, hot, delicious Mexican food - on an actual plate! With multiple salsas! - is just icing on the cake. Bailey's also hosts multiple specialized beer fests throughout the year. These are usually pretty crowded, but still fun and manageable. They're your best option for regional craft beer downtown, and in my Top 5 of beer bars Portland-wide.

  • Holly G.

A great spot to find delicious beers with a play-by-play tv board letting you know how much beer is left in each keg. What a genius idea! Really, why don't all beer bars/breweries do this? I guess that is what makes Bailey's so awesome though! Plus, it makes you feel like you are drinking very rare beer which is something special. Nice atmosphere, too. I enjoyed my time here and am glad that this is a place that I stopped at during my visit to Portland.

Lots of beer on tap. Kind of a small place with bad acoustics, otherwise a good place to stick into your itinerary. Outdoor seating too! Very nice & helpful staff. Very hi-tech beer system with ties to beer info, keg levels and even social media... all on one 50'' screen on the wall. They have board games too. Not sure if all of the pieces are there, but they have board games...

These guys do a great job picking some delicious beers to put on tap. I tried 4-5 beers and they were all delicious. The atmosphere was great. Bar was clean. Staff was friendly.

Best beer bar in Portland! Rotating selection is always interesting and the beer turnover is so rapid it never gets old. I love the beer scoreboard that shows the essential details of the beer and how much is left in that keg. Staff know the beer and are friendly and genuine. Best of all the place is totally chill, all kinds of people go there and everyone feels at home. It's a gem.

Love this place. Truly a taproom with an amazing vibe. Lots of local beers. I like TV screens above the taps showing you what each size glass looks like and how much beer is remaining in each keg...very cool

I usually think of this place as: "one of the few bars in the downtown core that doesn't suck" In fact, it's pretty freakin' awesome! They always have unique and constantly rotating beers (follow their twitter feed for LIVE updates on what's on tap), they have an insanely innovative plasma screen which displays the vitals (not kidding it even reports how full/empty the kegs are) of the various types of beers on tap. Not only that, you can also get beer in a multitude of sizes. If you're an indecisive person, bring a dominant friend or just don't come here, you'll hem and haw forever while the bartender falls asleep. Nice ambiance too, laid back while feeling a wee-bit fancy, but not in that annoying pretentious way (see: Spints Ale House). Nice big windows so you can see people walking in and out of Mary's. They don't serve food here, but you can get food delivered from the excellent Mexican joint next door (and I highly recommend you do) They also only serve beer, so if you're not into beer (I shouldn't even have to say this, what are you even doing in Portland?! Go back to Cleveland!) go check out Dirty, I hear they have hella-stiff drinks and perhaps some jello shots.

Funky atmosphere with Portland locals chattering over the days affairs. The pull menu was exotic and potent. Need to be somewhat of an expert to find what fits your style and taste. The tender was a lot of help and the results were hard to overthink truthfully. Like it a lot...

I like the selection of beers and I love the big beer menu tv. The outdoor seating is also nice.

If you fancy yourself a beer snob then this is your place. The range of beer options is completely awesome. The electronic boards behind the bar tell you what it is, where it's from, and how much is left in the keg before it's replaced with a different brew. You can also check this on their website. If you're a tweeter/twitterer (I still haven't figured that slang out), they update the rotations on there as well. The seating is limited and it's been packed almost every time I've been in. If you see an open table then you're going to want to grab it fast. Like, run. I certainly wouldn't judge you for it. The service seems a little lacking to me- that's the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5. But the variety and great deal on small pours is what keeps me coming back. Ok ok, and the tacos and cocktails at Santeria may have something to do with a trip to Bailey's as well. They're right across the alleyway from each other.

I appreciate the little things that makes Baileys stand out: the next bus times at the register, the ever rotating taps, and being allowed to bring in food from outside. Outside seating is preferred for people watching but limited and a bit competitive.

Bailey's is all they say it is...a must stop spot for some great beer! The ambiance is nice and chill, and the service incredibly friendly. These folks love what they do and it shows. You can't go wrong with any of the beers...there's something for everyone. I love the smaller glasses that allow you to try a few without committing. Heck, we even loved their small glasses so much we bought a couple to take home! If you're a Portland local, I'm jealous. If you're a tourist visiting, make sure this place is on your brew tour of the city.

I loved the vibe here at Bailey's Taproom. It seemed to sum up everything that was positive about Portland. They did a great job using their space and to the best potential with enough seating for two and enough seating for a group of revelers. It was laid back and the staff was very friendly. Their claim to fame (other than the huge rotating selection of bottled beer) is their TV giving you the information on how much beer is left on all the tapped kegs. According to the bartender it's an inexact science but one that is still fun. No food but I believe they let you bring your own. Please do not take my word on this one, not here to get anyone kicked out, just want everyone to frequent this establishment as I would if I lived in Portland. Either way, just trying to finish up my reviews from a delightful trip to Portland, Seattle and Vancouver so details are missing. Bottom line is, go here is you like beer. They have a fantastic selection (20 rotating taps and 30-50 rotating bottles), and a warm atmosphere. Got a glass to remember them by and will always go back when I am in Portland.

Amazing beer bar! If I lived in Portland this would be my weekly haunt for sure. Great selection (obviously) always changing. Friendly patrons and bartenders. Nice atmosphere. I Miss this place! If you like beer you must go!

Bailey's is hands down one of my favorite haunts in Portland. Even if it's packed when I walk in, crowds come and go within enough time to grab a seat after about a 10 or so wait. The beers change constantly, and they are listed on large TV screens above the bar along with icons that clue you into the sizes they pour, the beer type, and how much is left in the keg. The list is also connected to their Twitter account so you can see updates as people check in, comment, and as new beers go on tap. Some people might knock the fact that you have to go up to the bar to order, but they are handling 20+ taps changing constantly--you can't print menus or expect patrons to read the beer lists from their seats--just go up and order! They will happily open tabs, and that makes for a quick trip to the counter, so long as you know what you want! There is comfortable seating for groups both indoors and out, and I haven't gotten to the best part yet...there is an AMAZING Mexican place just across the alleyway--Santeria. Now I've only ever had food from there having first consumed a drink or two at Bailey's, but it has never let me down. They will even bring the food from the restaurant across the street to your table at the bar at virtually no extra cost. My favorite item on the menu is their Tinga Nachos and my husband is hellbent on eventually making off with their hottest hot sauce for himself (I wish I knew where they got it from or if it's made in house). The marriage between these two hangouts brings immeasurable success to my evenings out--don't knock it 'till you try it!

We stopped in at Bailey's on a recent one night stay in Portland. It was one of the few taphouses open on Sunday evening and it definitely lived up to the hype. The great selection of beers in a wide variety of styles offered up by our friendly and knowledgeable barkeep was a highlight of our Portland visit. Although we only stayed for one round, I could see myself spending an evening here with friends on the small patio, over good conversation and interesting hop-y options. Worth checking out if you're a beer conoisseur such as the BF and I.

Fabulous selection of beers and we liked the techy tap list that shows you how much is left in each keg. I didn't find the server to be very helpful or friendly but the beer choices made up for it.

Love the beer selection and atmosphere. Difficult to find a decent seat however and it is often too busy for my preference. It is the only worthwhile upscale, beer focused taproom in their area of downtown.

  • Abby B.

I wish I could visit this place more often. They have a wide selection of beers available and a fun and interesting display when you walk up to the bar. Unfortunately, it's always waaaaaaay too crowded. You have to stand around awkwardly waiting for people to get up and leave and then pounce on a table. Standing room is even limited as everyone else is also standing waiting for a place to sit. The bar can get chaotic with no clear line, just a mess of people trying to view the big screen display of beers.

  • Alex R.

Five dollars for 20oz of Dogfish Head Aprihop? Yes please. Also the digital tap list shows the current fill level of the kegs, cute. The bartender was friendly, there are board games available to play with. If they had food, it'd be five stars.

  • Taylor B.

I have had this place bookmarked for way too long on Yelp, happy to say I broke through and finally made my way to possibly one of the best places to sit down and have a cold one. Constant rotations on tap, mighty fine list, awesome knowledgeable server, and that cool electronic tap board/scoreboard! Yeah, being waited on can be a bit slow at times since there's only been one guy serving, but just go relax and enjoy the beer!! I'm happier as a customer not being pestered every few minutes by a server, makes the atmosphere of the place far more chill and enjoyable! Hands down, if you are in need of a good beer, you will find exactly what you need. Food wise, Santeria makes house calls! Enjoy!

Bailey's Taproom Just had their 2 year anniversary this past weekend, this place is DEFINITELY worth stopping by at, every time im in Portland i seem to stop by here at least once... Everyone is very friendly here, the one person who seems to remember me every time im in town is Scott. the beer selection is pretty nice. A lot of local breweries, and the prices here are dirt cheap for microbrews. $2.50 for a 10 oz glass $4 for a 20 oz glass! the tap menu changes very often, and there is a long list of bottles to choose from.... Bailey's doesn't serve any food, but the Mexican restaurant next door will bring orders to this place! and its not too bad either. if your ever in the area you gotta check this place out!

  • Leah L.

Small space, but big on beers. They have a great beer selection on tap with a wicked awesome digital menu. The menu keeps track of how much beer is left in each keg. This way you can be sure to order what you want. I would be here every other night if this was in my neighborhood.

Great draft beer selection in a cozy environment. I normally do not write reviews on pubs especially pubs that do not serve food but just had to since I enjoyed this place. Only thing I do no like is that they apparently do not have a happy hour but their drinks are pretty well priced. They normally have about 20 beers on draft and about that many bottled beers to chose from too. As I mentioned they don't serve food but you can order from the Mexican restaurant across the street and they will bring the food over. Definitely a place I'll visit again. I think I'll add to my locals list :-)

My favorite place for beer and socializing with friends. They have a fun beer selection (always rotating new stuff). They have board games. I think the bartender's are always nice, and very willing to help you with your beer selection.

Now this is the place for beer aficionados, and the women are most likely to be out numbered. The place got a cool electronic beer display since I was here last summer and it tells you what they have on tap, and all the beer statistics and how much they have left in the keg. It was hard for me to pick something because it seems like everything on tap is some obscure, might-be-the-next-best-thing, or beer of the moment beer, not to mention hoppy and thick and powerful. But my husband loves it, and it is a cool atmosphere, and only 2 blocks from our hotel.

It took me a little while to get over to Bailey's for the first time. I live on the east side of the river, and just didn't find myself on the west side very often. These days, Bailey's has me going over there much more frequently. "How good can be?" I thought to myself from my comfortable daily routine in SE. "I've got the Horse Brass, Belmont Station, and countless other places right here!" I still love both those places, and wouldn't say that Bailey's is necessarily better, but it's definitely different, and I appreciate a little variety when it comes to one of my favorite hobbies - drinking good beer. The rotating taplist isn't "horse brass huge", but the variety and selection is immaculately curated. The service is among the friendliest and most knowledgeable around too. The atmosphere is nice, with big windows and plenty of light. There's no food made on site, but that's OK. If you're hungry, you can ask for a menu from Santeria, which is across the street. You phone in your order, and staff from the restaurant will run your food, utensils, condiments, etc.. over in a jiffy. Don't worry about the mess, they bus your table too. Another thing I like about Bailey's is their small, but excellent bottle list. Bottles are available for both on-site consumption and to-go, and the prices are great either way. Lastly, Bailey's throws some great special events from time to time, with rare and sought after beers that you just don't see at other places around town. The events are always run smooth, fun, and affordable. This is one of my favorite places in town for beer. I'd be a regular if it was just a bit closer to home.

By far the best place to get beer in Portland, and the Mexican food palce next store delivers and they have some amazing food and salsa! 20 Rotating beers and the guys that work there are super nice. Must go Portland Experience!

Man oh MAN are there a lot of beers here! Wow. And the location is entertaining and enjoyable. There's wi-fi too. I'd recommend tasting a lot of different beers, as it's like a candy store for beer aficionados (not the snobby kind - the awesome, relaxed, laid-back kind). One thing - there's no food available, but there's a great burrito place across the street (next to Mary's) that's a great spot for a quick food fix before or after the joys and pleasures of Bailey's. It's great for groups. Tables are configurable, there's a nice bar, and there are various interesting places to sit dispersed throughout the space.

So, for some full disclosure, I should tell you that I am a bartender, for Tugboat Brewing, the bar that is across the street from Bailey's Taproom. That being said, you might expect me to rail against what might very well be considered "my competitor" but that couldn't be further from the truth. Bailey's is the best neighbor a brewery could hope for. Instead of hoarding our customers, we both encourage them to drop into the other establishment for a drink. Turns out, beer drinkers appreciate variety. Bailey's is a nice place, with some comfy seats, friendly people -- but mostly it's about the beer there. I am consistently surprised by the variety of beer that Geoff, the owner/bartender gets in there. Clearly he knows what he's doing. Personally, I love dropping in there after I wrap up the Tugboat on Mondays, and Geoff's been known to come across the street and enjoy a pint on Thursdays. Competitors? Far from it. We're all friends in this part of town. So come on by, and have a few pints with him, and then come across the street, and check out what I've got to offer too.

A beer drinkers bar. Baileys has a large selection of craft beers on tap. With a constantly rotating beer selection; when one keg is tapped, it is replaced with something entirely new. A TV screen displays the beers on tap with info such as how much beer is left in the keg and what type of beer it is. They also serve some of the best Mexican food directly from Sanataria next door. The staff are always more than friendly. They take the time to treat each returning patron as if you are a friend. They remember your name, what types of drinks you like, and happily offer what they have on tap to match your desires. Glass windows all around, allow the fun interior design to feel well lit as well. Overall, the atmosphere is jovial and intelligent. A great place to go with friends to hang out and talk about quantum physics or your friend's new relationship. It's also social enough that I dare you to not try to meet new people there. Bailey's is like Heaven for Beer drinkers!

Beer, Brick & Board Games. That is the essence of Bailey's. I enjoyed a Bison Belgian Dubbel (brewed with raisins). There are alot of "B"'s in this review. Speaking of board games....there are 3 classic board games that have 4 letters in the name. Can you name those three board games? Send me a mail if you would like to know!

Grade "A" people watching from outside ringside seat. Beers that are on tap is listed even the ammount that is left in the Kegs. I was blown away by the prices because they had some great selections but at a great price. They have board games if people watching isn't your thing. Great place to bring visitors to sample a tatse of Portland we love our beer. Cozy atmosphere not too crazy and loud. Parking is a bit tricky and on the street only.

Love the rotating taps, easy, relaxed atmosphere, love it. Does get crowded sometimes, but the option of a beer sampler for around 7-8 bucks is a great way to overlook that.

My husband and I were in town for the Oregon Brewers Festival and stayed at a hotel just down the street from Bailey's. Since a friend recommended it to us, we hopped on down a few blocks and checked it out. Loved it! The beer selection is outstanding, and I loved how many different sizing options are available. It was nice to be able to try a wide range of beers without getting completely sloshed. We stopped in around 4:30 on a Friday, and the place was pretty full already. I liked that there was a diverse crowd. Always makes for good people watching, which is fun to do over numerous beers. We found a table and picked up a box of Trivial Pursuit cards from the selection of board games they had available. The decor is interesting; I dug it. Brighter and airier than I would expect from a taproom, but I think it works. Would definitely go back if we venture out to Portland again.

We were in town for a week on vacation, and our guide book said this was a great spot. We checked it out, and I thought it was just fine, but didn't get the hype. The beer was really good...but the lighting was more like a college library! It was way too bright! They did have lots of games, and BF and I traded off Trivial Pursuit cards for a long time. Of course, I'm way smarter, so won. I just felt it lacked personality? There were empty beer bottles all along the window sills, but you find that in college dorm rooms everywhere. Good beer though, but I'm not sure why it was in a guide book.

    A) They have a great selection of beer. B) You can order food from the taco shop next door and they will deliver. C) There are board games. This was a really nice place to sit and drink and talk and share a burrito. I am a little bit sad that this place was not earlier in the night for me (since I would have appreciated it more if I had not already drowned myself in PBR) but it was one of my favorite parts of the night. The burrito from next door was awesome, and the pints are super cheep which made my whole night because these aren't shitty generic beers but a really nice selection of local breweries for super super cheap.

  • Alethea S.

This is a great place to go if you want a nice selection of beer on tap or in bottles, including some harder to find brews. They don't offer a happy hour that I'm aware of, but their pints average $4.50 which is a fair price for good beer. They have a selection of board games if you're into that, and a variety of seating arrangements so you can lounge in cushiony chairs, sit around a big table, sit at smaller bistro-style tables or, of course, at the bar. There was only one bartender working the Monday night we were there. Note that Bailey's does not serve food, however you can call and order from Santeria, the little Mexican restaurant across the street and they will bring your food over to you for no extra charge. Just ask the Bailey's bartender for the menu. I got the pork nachos ($5) and they arrived in under 10 minutes and it was a huge portion. The waitress also brought everything we might need (napkins, silverware, hot sauces). I did have to send my boyfriend over to the restaurant a bit later to get a to-go box! Also note Bailey's does NOT have any TV's, so do not go here expecting to watch the game. Just go here to hang out, drink good beer and people watch across Ankeny or Broadway.

Charming little taproom staffed by friendly and knowledgable beer-lovers. My wife and I visited for the 2012 Germanfest. We shelled out for VIP tickets, which entitled to early admission to the festivities, and were not at all disappointed. The atmosphere, at least in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, was chill and relaxing. We several people order food from Santeria across the street, which was cool, and we were jealous. The beers on offer were all quite interesting and many of them quite rare. I was particularly impressed by the video monitor they have set up to show you what is on tap, how much it costs, and how much they have left. So clever, so cool. This place is a winner.

This is one of those places that makes me really miss my hometown. The place was close to being full on a Monday - gotta respect a town where the locals are still out on a school night. There were around 20 beers on tap, and we ordered a sampler. The sampler includes five 5oz samples of any beer on tap. Any beer! Including the pricier ones! Loved that there were board games for patrons to play. This place would be a great place to unwind after a long day in the office.

    (5)
  • Shauny L.

This place seemed pretty cool. They got a good selection of beer, and they keep you updated with facts, and how much of each one is left with flat screen tvs. It's a good place to have a couple drinks, and chill out.

  • Deren T.

I like beer... a lot... and when I evaluate a bar that specializes in beer I only consider 2 things: 1) do they have beers I haven't tried yet? 2) do they have a wait staff that knows enough about beer to help me pick something I'll enjoy That seems pretty simple right? But I've found that the more beer I drink the harder it is to find a place that meets those two criteria. They either have the same 3 or 4 beers (almost everywhere in Portland), or they have a ton of beers but a staff that won't be able to help you pick between them (henry's). Bailey's is both. And I love them for it. Summary: Bailey's is where serious beer drinkers go to drink beer.

Last stop on the Portland beer tour. I had high expectations for this place, and purposely saved it for last. I couldn't help but be disappointed. The inside was small and bland, and was packed at 11:30pm on a Tuesday. The bartender was somewhat annoying, trying way too hard to be hip and funny. Can't argue with the selection of beers on tap, but I won't be coming back any time soon.

Great craft beer selection, knowledgable staff. Atmosphere is a little sterile, but overall a great place to drink great beer. Keg status display is very interesting, advises what color your beer selection is and how much they have left in the keg.

Beer selection is nice! I am a bit picky when it comes to beer and they have 20 beers on tap to select from. I got here about an hour after they open and watched as people filtered in. Nice atmosphere! Casual and relaxed! Board games are available. I will come back next time I am in town.

This place isn't a bar, it's a shrine. If you love beer, you'll come here to pray, if you don't it's an empty expression of a totally false god. I think I've taken this a little too seriously.

I so wish I lived next to his place, the Taproom has a very nice vibe and atmosphere. And the beer is awesome too! The electronic menu they have which tells you what beers are on tap and also how much they have left is very cool. Also, the variety of beers they have I thought was awesome

Everyone has pretty much said it. This place is a great fun, friendly place to down some tasty brews. They don't have a kitchen but next door is Santeria's, which will bring food over to you. I should rate them separately but their quasi Mexican fare is pretty tasty. I was here on a Saturday night, it was busy but not so packed it was uncomfortable. I can see spending way too much time in this place.

  • Michaela A.

Everything I've ever wanted in a bar. Excellent selection of quality microbrews, and the display of how much of each beer is left in the keg is pretty slick. I thought the prices were great considering what you're getting -- $4.50 for 20 oz. (some pricing varies). The atmosphere was lively yet relaxed, with dim lighting and a cozy feel. I would almost equate it to a coffee shop. It was the perfect place for a friend and I to catch up, not too loud. I would make it a regular hangout if I lived in the Portland area.

  • Leah L.

Went there last Friday night. Pretty busy, as it was right around quitting time. We ordered 4 flights over a couple of hours. Each flight was of five 5 oz glasses, served on a little oak tray. The individual beers varied. Some I liked, some I didn't like. They were all pretty rare, mostly small batches. Service was one nice guy at the taps, and he didn't ever get swamped with orders at the same time, so service was good. And because we ordered 20 samples, he gave me the last beer for free. There's a "zero" tap, plus 20 others. Don't ask. The only problem is the lack of food, which was okay we got Mexican delivered from across the street, which was good. But it's easy to get pretty drunk pretty fast with no food, so that's a little bit of a problem if you don't want Mexican or don't want to deal with the very nice accomodating waitress. Yes, they come over and deliver, and then return to bus the tables. In general, it was pretty fun. Nice, quiet low-key crowd. ALMOST ALL MEN, which might be good if you were a single woman who was looking. Really, the ratio was at least 20 to 1 when I was there. Like the North Slope.

Good beer w/ rotating taps, 20 I think. $4.50 pints/$2.50 10oz/5 5oz tastes for $7.50 (and you get to choose) Nice, laid back atmosphere. Scott is my favorite bartender in Portland.

Simplicity at its best. I was with a group of friends hanging out across the street at Saucebox. We were deciding where to go and saw this place across the street. Of course, I've heard good things about this place before, but it was a strange occurrence how I literally stumbled into Baileys. The dude serving the beers was super cool. He served us our beers right away and even made my decision easier by giving me time and flinging samples as he saw my indecisiveness run amok. It was Friday night with several people hanging out, but it wasn't heinously busy. This place rocks though. They serve beer and wine, that's it. Go get food at some other bar if you want food. The board games is a nice little touch, though it kind of detracts from the overall atmosphere. We played Jenga, so I'm not complaining. :) The bartender looked and reminded us of Seth Rogan...

  • Ken H.

An excellent beer selection and folks that know it - good if you know what you want or are wanting to chat and learn a bit more about beer. Also fun is that whenever they blow a keg, they put in a different maker's brew. It keeps the varieties ever changing. Really no better spot in downtown to get a beer, unless you're wanting a meal with it too. There's no food menu here.

I remember years ago when this place first opened. As it's literally a block away from work, it's a great place to quickly grab a delicious beer and unwind. The beer selection is always great, and the price is always right. My one complaint is that they have these two white couches in there that need a SERIOUS cleaning or removal. I mean, they are gross! White was a bad color choice and after years of beer spilling, those things are worse for wear. So, grab a chair or a stool, enjoy your brew and chill. Just avoid the couches. Seriously. Go take a look at them. You just might throw up in your mouth.

I've upped my rating to a 5 Star. I had a horrible pang of guilty when I thought of the Bailey's guys crying over not having a full-star review. And goodness knows I don't like to see a grown man cry. Tatiana M. and I are regulars. I've never been a regular anywhere in my life except the dentist, and even that takes some doing. She and I try to save money, but inevitably end up at Bailey's for a few pints and a game of Gin or Scrabble (yes, we are old people). Since we first happened into it, it hasn't really changed a whole lot, and this is great news. They still do it right. Frequent rotations of wonderful beers. The best knowledgeable service around. The occasional weird trance music on the speakers. What's not to like? I know this region is obsessed with cheap beer, but it should come as no surprise that I'd rather spend the same amount on a 20oz. pint of heaven than 96oz. of watered-down piss.

This is my new favorite place to grab a beer downtown! Blink and you'll miss it, Bailey's is located right on the corner of Broadway and 2nd, directly across the street from Saucebox. It is not large inside, but the floor-to-ceiling windows give the illusion of a much larger space. Minimal design with fashionable hanging lights and exposed brick/ductwork add the warehouse vibe that I love. They have 20 rotating taps (check their website for the latest offerings), and do not serve food, so this is the quintessential place to go and get and get your drink on, no messing around. They do both 10/20oz servings, and they also offer tasting trays. Great window seating throughout (can accompany small or large groups), in comfy full-back plush chairs, with accompanying foot ottomans to hold your beers. There are also a number of bar stool seating options. For entertainment, they have a wide selection of old-school board games (did someone say Boggle?) for all of your playing pleasure! Great location, great space, great place to drink some beer - get to it!

Love the beer selection. I definitely recommend doing a taster rather than just buying a pint - there's so much to enjoy here!! While Bailey's doesn't have food, they do have an agreement with Santeria across the street. You can order food from Santeria and have it delivered to you over at Baileys! Loved the board games too - we had a great time, ended up going back several times on our trip.

Awesome rotating beer taps. Laid back atmosphere. Full pints. Attentive service. I love this place. Why only 4 stars? I wish they had food. Even if it was just pretzels.

I feel weird writing a review of a bar I spent approximately half an hour, but I can safely say that I am in love. Well thought out taps! Not ten IPAs, five ambers a stout and a Lambic, but a wide selection of styles! Will wonders never cease? Not to mention a great bottle list. About that bottle list; they have Speedway Stout. If you are a beer geek and you do not live in San Diego you know what a huge deal this is. Speedway Stout! The bartender was nice enough. The inside looked like a kitchen showroom at Ikea. Doesn't matter; they put thought into their tap list and they have Speedway Stout!

Me and the BF recently visited Portland. The beer selection is ok - but I was really annoyed by the jackass bartender that mocked me (with all his 'bro's laughing along) because I cannot drink alcohol, and continued to mock me even after we sat down. I'm so lucky - on my vaca I got to drink swamp water out of a nasty jug. If you're down with the frat boy grown up into a faux hipster, where ppl call each other 'braaah' and mock customers.....you've found your bar. If you're visiting portland steer clear of this place & the original. same jackassery, but in a different outfit.

The staff at Hotel Lucia told us about this place ( we checked in late and wanted food and beer). Bailey's does not serve food but they have a deal with a Mexican restaurant across the street where they will bring over food from their menu to eat with your beer. The bar staff was really cool! So nice and helpful. I think I had an Alaskan White? What ever it was, it was tasty! The vibe is layed back and really cool to hang out . Our food came and was served to us hot on regular plates with napkins and everything you could need. These two businesses are working so well together! It was a joy to experience it!

Best taproom in the Northwest. Seriously the working crew & frequent patrons are all awesome. Always good chats & good drinks. In addition the owner (Jeff) is always getting awesome high tech gadgets from some of the awesome patrons. Such as a beer dashboard and a bus & light rail arrival board that tells when your bus or train is departing. Since it is PDX, the majority of patrons arrive and depart via transit (everybody should since they're drinking :P ).

I just spent 2 months on a road trip, and visited many, many bars on this trip. Bailey's was hands down, the coolest, friendliest of them all. Plus, they have an awesome beer selection.

Really good place. Service is good, and I didn't feel pressured to hurry as I sampled the various choices. It is a small beer list, especially compared to Toronado's in San Francisco, but I found the staff quite knowlegable and had good recommendations. I went in to buy a few growlers of a specific beer to bring to SF for my friends and the were out, but their recommended substitution was excellent, even better than the original choice. Overall, a great place! Oh! And I love that they have board games! (Yes, I'm a dork)

If you are into a laid back atmosphere with beers and only beers! Just plain out a simple bar with board games and good conversations. Highly recommend sitting up at the bar chatting with the bartenders and taking in the new interactive menu. Very cool stuff.. i hope they got a trademark on that technology.

Great place to grab a beer. Good selection (20 beers on tap at any one time) and friendly staff. A pint of great beer is $4.50. Good price considering hops prices and the selection.

Wonderful, friendly bar with a fantastic selection of beers, focused on ones that are more local. It was our favorite drinking hole in Portland, not the least bit because of all the board games! :) A great place to drink beer.

I'm not a general beer drinker, but they always have something to suit my taste. The staff is friendly, the regulars are too, and you just may learn a thing or two about beer before you go.

walked in Bailey's Taproom on Thursday night around 9pm and it was packed, so we grabbed the only open seat outside. nice space and good variety of drink with food menu. we tried the "stumptown tasting flight"; its variety of berries and cherry favor drink. quite interesting. nice drinking/hangout spot and would come back if indoor seating is available.

Crazy crowded. Nice space. Comfortable seats (at least from a .lascivious visual-only inspection). Had one of their flights and left b/c no seating. Tugboat around the corner is a nice alternative.

I frequent this establishment once a week and it never disappoints! I've resisted the urge to post a review for Bailey's to see if they ever let me down, but they haven't! The constant rotation of super yum brews always keeps me on-my-toes and satisfied. Keep in mind it's a taproom, not a bar, and that's just want you get. Kudos for keeping a few bottles of jesus juice on hand for those who don't desire the frothy goodness of malty and hoppy heaven! Food? Bring your own or order mexican next door. Simple enough.

Went for the 3rd annual beer tasting event. Got 5 tastes for $15 - not bad. We got there in the middle of the event, and a third of the beers were gone - disappointing. Even more disappointing - the beer selection! I loved 1, thought 2 were okay, and hated 2 so much that I dumped them out. Overall, did not consider this a success. Hopefully next year they will have a less "out there" beer selection.

Nestled in a cozy little nook on Broadway just off Burnside, Bailey's is conveniently located for stopping in on almost any occasion. Just look for their plain, but very identifiable, sign out front proclaiming the bar name alongside a drawing of a snifter. A large collection of bottles lining the window sills inside (supposedly each drunk by the owner himself) are also a dead giveaway that you have found your way to "beervana." Once inside, you will find a nicely polished bar, some table seating, and a number of large, comfortable couches and chairs arranged together around a big coffee table. An armoire full of board games also invites visitors to interact with one another and have a little more fun while drinking. When there's nice weather, you can head back outside to one of several tables offering a great view of lively downtown Portland and its people. Although they served small plates of cheese, olives, and chocolates when I first visited a few months ago, Bailey's has since decided to serve alcoholic beverages only (they do, however, allow guests to bring their own snacks or dinners). Fortunately, the fantastic selection of beers and wines justifies this decision. With a draft list of 20 constantly rotating taps from the Pacific Northwest region such as Hopworks, Laurelwood, Lucky Lab, Stone, and Full Sail, Bailey's specifically caters to the Northwestern palate. Bailey's is to be lauded for serving only Pacific Region brews on tap but, considering the owner's good taste in craft beers, one cannot help but wonder what would be available if national or international brews were available on tap as well. Perhaps a larger bottle collection could help answer this question. Bailey's taproom is one of the few pubs in Portland to offer craft brews like Allagash and Jolly Pumpkin in their bottle selection. Since the first time I visited, Jolly Pumpkin's "La Roja," a Flanders style barrel aged sour amber, has been a mainstay on their list, although the price is a little steep. Other bottled brews include Avery and Ommegang. To keep up with all the latest beers on tap at Bailey's (and for many enjoyable lessons in beer history and trivia by the outspoken owner), subscribe to the bar blog at baileystaproom.wordpress… .

This place rocks. Great micros fron Oregon, and now I have my favorite beer - saison from Double Mountain in Hood River! Chill vibe, no attitude from the bar tender, tons of board games and you can even order delicious Mexican from the taqueria across the road. They will deliver and serve you like you are in a proper restaurant!

My favorite beer bar in town. The owner and other bartenders are always knowledgable about the beers on draft. They also have wingnut confection vegan truffles!

  • Nisha D.

The beer selection here is fantastic and unusual. I thought that by being a Portlander, you know most of your local brews, but this place had some new choices (for me, anyway). I'd highly recommend getting the taster sampler--it's actually a very good price for the amount and number of choices you get (6). I wish I'd discovered this place two years ago, when I first moved here, because it's one of the places I could see myself being a regular. Super chill, cheap, and right on Broadway.

So your friend says, "Hey! Lets grab a beer downtown." Then, if your friends are like mine, there proceeds to be a long discussion and often debate as to where to go..... "Henry's is too crowded and too overpriced" "Windmere is too far" "Deschutes you never know what they have on tap + really noisy" "New/Old Lompoc leaves me smelling like an ash tray" "North 45 cleans out my bank account" "McMens is just boring and the service sucks" NOW... the cure all! Bailey's Taproom has a great selection of northwest beers (most from smaller producers), imperial pints are $4.50 (Hell yeah!) and their attempt at an urban chic atmosphere makes it the perfect place to come catch up with friends over an ambrosial glass of goodness...

    (5)
  • Colin P.

One of Portland's best rotating selection of beers on tap, with an emphasis on Oregon breweries. Solid, knowledgeable staff. Good prices on large, 20oz pints. Burritos delivered!

There's really tasty beer on tap, and they rotate their selection. Be adventurous. Try a new beer.

One of the best taprooms in the NW, period. Geoff does a great job with keeping your glass filled, from week to week, with some of the greatest beers from most of the West Coast's best breweries. The staff, Geoff and Michael, has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to beer. If you don't visit Bailey's you are missing out. Get there now! Kudos to the nicely written blog and constant feeds of 'now on tap' updates on Twitter.

Good beer choices but I felt rushed due to the crowd of people wanting to order. Poor set up of the room. It is close to the downtown hotels and other club which makes it a great warm up place.

What can I say.....this place has great atmosphere, great beer, experts behind the bar and great food you can order into the bar. How great is that. This is my "Norm" place is ever there was one. Always great beer and fun, personable patrons. No TV's to distract you. Even the beer is cheap for what you get.......always fresh and tasty!

Great beer on tap with pretty good prices. The 10 oz glasses for $2.50 are great, can try a bunch of kinds without breaking the bank. Service is good and the atmosphere is relaxed. The TV screen for beer is cool, lets you see how much of everything they have left, what they just tapped etc. Pretty crowded during prime time though, so maybe try midweek or afternoon. Good place to hang out with friends, and definitely the best place for beer in the downtown area that I've tried.

I really enjoy stopping in to see what's on tap. The rotating brews make for a fun experience. While Bailey's doesn't have food you can order from the Mexican place across the street. They will deliver it to your table. Go the beer lover in you will thank you.

  • Liz G.

I love Bailey's, and think it's kindof silly at the same time. It's a place to drink beer, and makes zero attempt at being anything else. Seriously, this place is just a room with tables and 20 beers on tap, that's it. There's no decor or atmosphere to speak of, no fancy cocktails, no hot 20-something hipster bartenders. Just beer. And lots of it, almost all local and constantly rotating. And while there's not a kitchen, you're welcome to order Mexican from across the street and have it brought in (yes, the mexican place will take your order by phone and bring it to your table). Add to all of this the incredibly convenient location a block from work, and you can reliably find me here on Friday afternoons.

Yummy yummy yummy, I've got love in my tummy, And I feel like I love beer. No real updates to my previous review, I was just here the other night and that came to mind. Good soundtrack, friendly patrons, and a host who was cautious when asked about a beer's name. The guy who interrupted the host by blurting out the answer timed it perfectly, just as I sipped a sample of Firestone Velvet Merkin.

Perhaps what I liked most about Bailey's was it's lack of pretension of any kind. I might describe it as a 'girl next door' pub with stunningly great taste in beer. Grab some Trivial Pursuit questions and a hoppy IPA and enjoy your afternoon.

Baileys Taproom is a really good place to sit and enjoy a beer on a nice afternoon. They have games like chess and backgammon for customers to play and a good and eclectic beer menu. The barman was very knowledgeable about the brews on tap and they also had a good bottle selection. I would definitely go there again next time I'm in Portland.

We were immediately greeted with beer samples upon entering, and the beer was a delicious saison, locally made with organic ingredients. the decor is friendly and hip, and the service was very good. we had complimentary cheese, crackers, and chocolate to go with the beer (of which they have quite the selection of microbrews), and we played a fun old-timey game they had involving marbles and little see-saws you control with the turn of a dial! 'twas lovely.

  • Rob V.

I love Bailey's! It has an every rotating selection of great beer with reasonably priced taster trays. While they don't have a kitchen, their symbiotic relationship with a taqueria next door will feed your drunk musnchies.

  • Robert R.

Bailey's Taproom is yet another member in the endless parade of passionate beer love in Portland. Relax in one of half a dozen beer-stained Ikea chairs while enjoying a beer from a rotating tap list that changes daily. Honestly, though, if you're coming here for the decor, you're doing it wrong. The beer is as good as it gets and is served in imperial (20 oz) pints, making sure you get your money's worth.

This place is awesome. The beer choices make you wish you could become a beer sommelier. I love that there are board games and the best part was when the dude from Santeria cruised in and delivered us tasty mexican food. I was super happy.

I've been there a couple times now, and have been please both times. The beer selection is always good, and the bar tenders have been helpful with their descriptions and suggestions. The interior is a little different, but I'm a fan of the beer bottle lights! And being able to sit outside is always a plus, though getting hassled by a drunk wasn't. Only complaint, and it isn't really a whole hearted one, is that the crowd is pretty homogeneous, but it is PDX after all

If you like really great beer -- and not much else -- then Bailey's Taproom is going to be your new home away from home in downtown Portland. I dig their comfy couches and chairs, the beer-wonk dudes settled in at the bar. The beer rotation and selection on tap is pretty well unrivaled in Downtown -- they had on tap about 20 unusual winter beers, choices you don't see at places that claim to serve microbrews. The bartender was nice enough to give us several small tastes of a few beers before we ordered pints. You can also order a beer "sampler" that seemed like a bargain compared to what I paid at the Winter Ale Fest this year. If you want food that is other than cheese or chocolate, consider a visit to any of the ka-trillion restaurants in and around downtown. Here you will find only lovely cheeses served with crackers, and some artisan chocolate truffles. If you're hankerin' for something more substantial, run across Ankeny St. to El Grillo and get yerself a gut-bomb burrito. I'm hoping Bailey's adds hot food eventually -- because when you're drinking a beer with 9% alcohol content, you gotta eat something, am I right?

one of the best things about portland is the beer. i think i read once that oregon has more microbrews than any other state, or maybe portland has more than any other city? at any rate, you'll find a lot of them here. such a great concept--showcase lots of different oregon microbrews in a cool, minimalist space. we did a tasting of 7 for around $16 bucks, which was fun and let's you experiment. most pints were $4-$6, depending, and they had a huge selection of bottled beers too. great prices, great beers (well, except for the sour one--which was maybe for children who like to drink? i find it sacrilegious to do that to a beer, but i guess if you wanna start em young).

Love this place! Awesome beer selection and friendly service. My husband and I stopped by this delightful tap room during a recent trip to Oregon. After visiting numerous other bars and breweries during our trip, it was SUCH a relief to find Bailey's!!! OMG...no smoke, no blazing sports broadcasts, no obnoxious drunks.....just fine beers, chic yet cozy digs, and a volume level that lets you actually carry on a conversation without raising your voice. Imagine that! Bailey's has more of a cool lounge feel to it than most places with such a beer selection. If I ever were to open a tap room, Bailey's would be a source of inspiration. Being homebrewers and coming from San Diego, we are quite accustomed to a plethora of amazing beer and have a fair amount of knowledge, so we were very impressed with the selection at Bailey's. Geoff (the owner) was a SUPER nice guy and very knowledgeable about craft beers. He took time to chat with us and ask us about our trip and made us feel very welcome. I was able to buy a couple of bottles (Doggie Claws-YUM) from him to take home with us. The pricing on drafts and bottles was VERY reasonable considering the caliber of beers being offered. I will definitely be visiting Bailey's on our next trip to Portland (and staying at the Ace Hotel again as well, which is walking distance). Good times.

In terms of beer bars, Bailey's is one of the best. Great beer selection, friendly staff, in a cool space. It's nice to be able to buy different sizes of beer: 5 oz., 10 oz., and 20 oz., and to also have the option to do a sample tray of 5 beers as well. It's a comfortable space, a good place to relax and try some new microbrews.

    (5)
  • Randall S.

Excellent selection of microbrews, which rotates. The rotation could be a bit of a bother, but it does allow you to sample different beers next time you go back. They will sell you the bottles at a discount off the bar price. The bartenders seem to really care about their beers and will tell you what they honestly think of a particular beer if you ask them. It smells a bit when you walk in, but then I realized it was the yeast and the beer, and that this is a good smell. They don't have food, but it is possible to order from the taqueria next door, which makes a reasonably good, fresh taco - but the tacos do lack some heat, so you would need to ask for habanero if heat is desired.

    (5)
  • Chris P.

Amazing selection of ever-changing beer. Staff is knowledgeable and passionate about their beverage selection and they offered sampling before committing to a pint. The space is bright, with comfortable seating and large collection of games. We played Jenga, and nobody seemed to mind when the loser had to stand up and sing "I'm a little teapot...". I will return for more tasty brews!

This place is a beer lover's heaven. I love it! I'd give it five stars if they served food. The selection of beers is always great. It is just an all around great beer bar. The people here are nice, customers and staff. It is always clean. Good tunes.

The best beer I found in all of Portland was here at Bailey's Taproom. I really wish I could remember its name but it was a delicious chocolately smoked porter that made my mouth water. I love that the taproom menu is kept on chalkboards so they can quickly update for daily changes or when they have to replace a keg. Board games and playing cards were scattered around, the chairs and seating selections were very comfortable, large picture windows for a view of the street and all the people walking to and from Mary's Club. I want to return on my next visit to PDX.

    (5)
  • Travis B.

great beer. way cheaper than I'm used to in S.D. nice owner guy. honestly, the five stars is due to the comedy of errors that I witnessed: bartender breaks key off in the cash register, then hurts his back when he stands up and smacks his back on a sharp corner. just wasn't his night. keep up the good work.

Reviewing this as I sit at the bar. I really want to like this place, but they're making it really hard. Love the atmosphere and beer selection. While not as good a selection as Henry's, they provide a good rotation of local and regional beers, and without the aee and be seen atmosphere. My HUGE complaint: Friday evening and one bartender, I sat here with an empty glass (at the bar mind you) for 15 minutes before the guy even looked to see that I was empty. The line wasn't even all that long for people waiting for drinks. While he knew his beer, he couldn't handle the rush of 3 people. Overall I'll give them another shot, but still waiting for amazing.

Beer sampler rules. $7 for five 1 oz glasses; you get to pick which 5 beers you'd like to try. Conveniently located near Mary's.

  • Josh O.

I am mostly going to review this just because I want badly to remember where it is and how much it rocks. Great ambiance. The owner is very unassuming, but clearly knows his stuff. I recommend the sampler - let HIM choose the beers. Snag the couches if you're quick! For me, this place was the perfect place to get a break from the rain and share a couple of rounds over a game of euchre. I'm going back.

A large group of us meet us after work at least one night a week for quite some time. They are all heavy beer drinkers and love the fact that they can get several dozen beers on tap all a short stumble from their corporate offices. I enjoy the open atmosphere, the plentiful seating and the company of my lush friends. No one seems to mind the cash bar as it keeps the inebriation under fairly strict control. No surprises that drinks for the teetotaler such as myself are limited to VISO or a pitcher of tap water kept up at the main counter. El Grillo from across the street will even deliver your order to you at the Baileys Taproom.

  • Julia K.

Great beer selection, great location, and really good atmosphere. The quality of the beers and shape of the pints make you feel like you're in a real English pub. The staff are very friendly. It's a great place to have a low-key drink with friends after work.

  • Jill L.

The digital board with the beer selection is awesome. We sat at the bar and our bartender was so knowledgeable about all of the brews, it was really interested just to learn a bit about what we were drinking! The only downside is parking, but if you are in the area and can walk over, do it!

You know that bar that looks ok, and it close to home, but you just never manage to try it out? Well, the BF and I finally conquered ours. Both of them. On Saturday night, we headed over to try out Tugboat Brewing (see that review next!). Since it was actually more like Saturday afternoon, they weren't open yet, but luckily Bailey's Taproom across the street was! Bonus bar stop! We went in and shared a sampler of five delicious beers, all of which I had never heard of. Come to think of it, they had about fifteen-twenty beers on tap and I hadn't heard of most of them. I'm not trying to say I am an expert, but I've definitely had my fair share of beer. More than fair. Plus, they have a gigantic supply of board games, and nothing spells fun like tipsy Scrabble. Anyway, Bailey's is clean and comfortable, with self-serve water (thank you) and was about half full on Saturday around 4:30- not too shabby. The one demerit is that it suffers from Too Bright Bar Syndrome. While big windows are nice, a serious taproom like Bailey's should be a little dimmer and cozier, in my opinion. One big plus, however, is that they fill growlers, and are closer to home than Bridgeport. With new beers. Cha-ching.

I was in Portland for a day, and made a point of including Bailey's in my wanderings (on the advice of another bar's staff). Definitely glad I did. Late on a Tuesday night, the place still drew a healthy group of folks, a few were amusing themselves with the available board games. Behind the bar is a selection of about 20 taps and 100 bottles (including 22oz 'bombers' and 750ml 'big bottles') from all across the country. The selection is broad and includes a lot of unexpected offerings. I was shocked to see they had a handful of beers from Schlafly and Boulevard, as they're both in Missouri and don't distribute widely. Scott served us. He's a guy who clearly knows his beers and was glad to chat with us about our tastes, offer recommendations, and share knowledge about the breweries themselves. I'd definitely recommend the place. They don't serve food, but customers are welcome to bring their own or have anything they want delivered. They've even got a friendly relationship with one of the places across the street - their waiter came over and served at the tables as if it was their own dining room. So did I mention it was good? Stop reading this and get over there.

Lots of different beers all shown on a state of the art LCD screen. Local beers mostly. Really not much else to say. This place is super chill and just a cool place to hangout with some brewskies.

Always crowded, but always a great taplist. Still love to come here even after many new entrants in the craft pub scene in PDX.

These guys know what's up. 20 taps. Lots of Oregon beers. Knowledgable staff. Good music. Beers taste fresh.

Beer.

Excellent tap house offering a wide selection of rare finds and NW favorites. This is the kind of bar you can expect great beer conversation and an enthusiasts' environment. Best is the constantly updated information on the volume of the kegs and what is coming up next!

Great space, very informed bartenders, and a nice selection of different local beers.

a taphouse with a large rotating draft beer selection. They also have common and rare bottled beers. This place is always busy-anytime after 4 ish. Great place to try the latest brew. Staff is knowledgeable and efficient. They have a new-ish addition upstairs called the Upper Lip for special events. Good view. No food here.

  • Jennifer L.

  • Suzz B.

This was my favorite place to get beer-until today. Bill had a bad attitude after he gave me glasses instead of tasters and didn't want to change it or tell me what they were. This is the first time I have had this experience here-and hopefully the last, or we will find a new favorite!

  • Daniella B.

  • Sudipto G.

    (5)
  • Sonia S.

  • Jaime D.

i really loved the different size beer cups you can choose, allowing you to try many of their beers. they also had great choices of beer. now they don't serve any beer BUT they are cool with you bringing something to eat at the place which is cool. definitely would come back.

    (4)
  • Vi B.

Small space, but big on beers. They have a great beer selection on tap with a wicked awesome digital menu. The menu keeps track of how much beer is left in each keg. This way you can be sure to order what you want. I would be here every other night if this was in my neighborhood.

    (4)

I liked Bailey's but boy was it crowded on a Friday night! The most interesting part was the giant flat screen displaying all of the beers and how much of each was left. Cool idea!

  • Chris M.

Great craft beer selection, knowledgable staff. Atmosphere is a little sterile, but overall a great place to drink great beer. Keg status display is very interesting, advises what color your beer selection is and how much they have left in the keg.

I love the boardgames and the fact that people actually play them. I dislike that the pub only has a soft liquor license.

Prost!

This place caught me by surprise.. It's like a mini stock exchange of beer from the west coast. They do not brew their own beer which was a disappointment but they have a variety selection of brew to choose from! And I would defiantly recommend this place to check out.

Amazing. The selection is fantastic and constantly changing. The bartenders are friendly and happy to talk beer. We go here every chance we get.

I can't say anything but this place is Awesome!!!! Ordered food from Santerias across the street. What a concept. Beer here is many and good. I love these kinds of social gathering places. This place makes me want to live in Portland.

Such a great selection of craft beer.

It's kind of like the Starbucks of beer, only dirtier. Walk across the street and have a much better time at Saucebox.

The atmosphere is pretty boring, you bring food over from across the street, and the staff is so very, very rude. The beer was decent but not worth sacrificing better atmosphere and better customer service. I had high hopes based on other yelp reviews but I was disappointed. I don't anticipate returning.

  • Dea S.

Hell yes. Awesome spot to get a beer. Busy even on the weekdays so be prepared to wait a bit for a beer. Fantastic selection. Nice guys behind the bar and very knowledgable about the beer they're selling. Good atmosphere. Overall awesome.

  • Chris H.

Great spot to chill and drink. Plus they have board games! Definitely recommend. Didn't try any food but " table beer " was tasty.
