Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I'm crying right now. I'm literally crying. Ok, I'm not literally crying. I'm only crying inside, while engaged in an angry dance. I'm dancing and it's foggy and there's lasers cutting through the fog and I'm dancing while sort of flailing against a cyclone fence, because I'm in the dark part of a dangerous inner city, in the 1980's. My hair looks fantastic, but my mascara is running. I'm like a dancing angry Courtney Love, but my hair looks great. It's high on top, long in the back, sort of curly and oiled, but short on the sides. Not freshly shaved, but shaved a while ago. I look dangerous but also, fabulous. I'm a bad boy, but also emotional, because something made me dance against this cyclone fence, something important, like the latencies associated with securing a cup of Americano, almost certainly related to the fact that it's lunch, and this place is busy. Truthfully, there's no actual dancing. The dancing is happening inside my head. But it's really very angry. There's no mascara; it's actually a tattooed eyeliner. Cheaper, but makes my eyes look feline, like a really cunning hunting kitty with really nice fur. Full disclosure: there's no tattooed eyeliner. But INSIDE, I'm a cunning hunting kitty, one of those orange ones that lay in a shaft of warm sunshine and naps when he's not hunting, with the tip of the tail flicking now and then, and is really soft but is still, ok sometimes when I'm a kitty I'm totes killing mice and stuff because he's a hunter. I'm a hunter. Ftt ftt (angry paws) I'm a feline dancing crying hunter, with a mullet. An oily mullet. I'm standing off to the side, quietly, invisibly seething. But also smiling, because I don't want to scare anyone in real life. But also because I work hard to keep a lid on the dangerousness of my crying angry dance. Wait. Oh ok, so apparently I'm NOT invisible. The guy who owns the place just literally walked by and handed me a Ristretto-roasted Americano, apparently on his way out the door to deliver sandwiches to people sitting outside, under these umbrella'd awnings. Hanging plants, Frank Sinatra playing. People smiling with their dogs. Hm The owner is named Mark. He has a stubborn quality regarding vision. It's one of those "pick one" propositions, whereas you're forced to choose between fast, good, and cheap. Mark doesn't do cheap, and he doesn't do fast, because everything is high-quality. Literally amazing. Come in the mornings and you'll meet Amelio, native of Florence. He makes the gelato, although I've watched him rush in at 7:45 AM with fresh frittata. YOU EAT THE FRITTATA! IT HAS BROOSLE SPROUTS. EIGHTEEN EGGS, YOU EAT NOW Mark and his family also pays attention, and seems to remember without much prompting precisely how I like my sandwiches, because while I'm engaged in my invisible angry dance, he makes it all happen. Indeed: when I pay he informs me that I can register via the Square app to order on my way there, and I've found this to be a primo method of taking cuts, and therefore defusing at the root the necessity to engage in any angry dancing, with running mascara. On the phone, you order what you'd like, and it informs you when the order is done. It's like living in the future. Hotels on the moon; laser battles. Order from your phone. such wow This place is amazing, but now I'm experiencing the temper tantrum version of coitus interruptus, and am compelled to find something else petty to get upset over.

Tried the regular Italian sub and the moufaleta. Oil and vin was the winner. Tapanade's good, but I like my mouf wedge. Will go back to try the others. Really miss NY style sandwiches.

Located just down the street from us on Sandy Blvd. We finally made it in for lunch. We were impressed. Very inviting decor, clean, and pleasant helpful staff. We enjoyed our relaxing visit. But the food? Oh Hell Yeah. We had the Italian Hoagie & the Turkey & Cheese sandwich. Both were above our expectations. We wanted this wonderful local-family owned and run deli to be our first Yelp Review. RECOMMEND! GO Visit them. We want them to be around for a long long time.
(5)Andrew A.
This nice little addition spruces up this stretch of not-so-eye-pleasing Sandy Blvd. I've visited four times, each time with a satisfactory experience. Nothing comes to mind as the "thing to get", just a nice selection of sandwiches, drinks and limited ready to eat items. There does seem to be a little customer service frenzy when there's more than two customers, but no big.
(3)Tara R.
Stopped by the other day for take out after seeing their reviews on yelp. I got the large caprese salad and my friend got the Tony Starlight sandwich, while I waited I had the best gelato ive had in a long time! Great way to pass the time! The wait staff are super friendly and the food was excellent!
(4)Tosh O.
My son and I went yesterday for a sandwich. We both had Italian hogie. Mine had everything his was no tomatoes. We both agreed it was the best sandwich we had ever had. Excellent roll, nice and crisp on the outside. The quality of Italian meats and provolone cheese was off the hook. The gentleman working the counter, possibly the owner was very welcoming. A must stop if you are in the area. Worth a drive if you are not.
(5)Joe G.
I just had the best sausage sandwich! - I think I ate some of the tin foil it was wrapped in. I did say the wait was long for the sandwich, but it was worth it. The restaurant itself, is a little small... BUT the food makes up for it. I plan on definitely coming back in early next month for another. The sausage was a little spicy, but it goes well with an old fashioned Tab soda. The peppers are seasoned perfectly - they compliment the spicy-ness. By far, the best thing I have had in Portland - better than anything I have had at the Reading Terminal Market.! Thanks for the food! Gonna try the gelato next. **sorry for the errors in grammar/spelling. The sandwich is so good, I am typing and eating at the same time.**
(5)Hungrylone W.
This place was really good and the staff was really nice and friendly. The sandwiches took a little while, but that just means they are made better. I feel like they also have reasonable prices. This place is great for lunch.
(5)Julie Ann O.
The guys that work here were very friendly. A young boy came in and ordered a sandwich: the gentleman reminded him to get his bag of chips. The young boy remarked he had forgotten last time and the gentleman had him take a second bag this time. I ordered the Tony Starlight panini and it was delicious. I will definitely be coming back to try the gelato!
(4)margaret n.
Well I couldn't stop thinking about how good it was yesterday so I went back for a Tuna sandwich today and yep...it was awesome. I'll probably be back again tomorrow.
(5)Kathryn K.
Really good no frills Italian sandwiches are served here. The sandwich breads are really exceptional and compliment the meats well. On the hoagie there is a bit of balsamic on the bread and adds just a bit of sweet tanginess to the sandwich. It was topped with slivered red onion, shredded lettuce and tomato slices. There was an herb sprinkled on top of the tomatoes that really elevated their flavor. Be sure to check out the gelato while you are there.
(4)Madison W.
Freakin delicious! We had the babagool, muffuletta, Italian hoagie, and roast beef with some cannolis for dessert. There were no leftovers to be had. The olive spread in my muffuletta had a few pieces of pit in there but that's the risk you run with olives so no real issue (and no cracked teeth so all is forgiven). However the muffuletta sandwich was a teensy bit too salty without any of the more tart/vinegary olive varieties in the tapenade, the Italian hoagie was utter perfection however. The cannolis...fuggedaboutit. Worth the trip for those alone. They make them to order (or at least fill them) and they are rich and so decadent without being too sweet. I didn't personally eat or try the babagool or roast beef but heard no complaints coming from their respective nommers so have to assume they were good (didn't even get offered a bite! Harrumph!). Can't wait to try some of the other selections next visit! Will have to bring my Italian foodie mom and her her expert opinion. Will update!

Delicious authentic Italian sandwiches with fast, friendly service.
(5)Lianne T.
My friend Catherine has been raving to me about this restaurant since it opened. I finally got into Portland, and we had lunch there. Wow! Now I see what she's been talking about. The food is deliciously home-style, the gelato makes my heart sing, and the servers are like family, from the first visit. My kind of place. I'll be back!
(5)Robin W.
What a gem nestled into the NE! Get amazing food served by Mark, the Italian owner with excellent taste in music! Lots of locals from the neighborhood come here and they have GELATO. Love this place!
(5)Erin J.
Cannoli as stupendous as you'd find in Philly (maybe better). I am only basing my review on that because it's all I had. I will be back... soon and often.
(5)Yuri P.
I had a great time in the place.... They Serve the food fast . The food is really good and the taste is just autentic!
(5)John P.
Guy hails from New Jersey and makes the kind of sandwiches New Yorkers take the tunnel to get. Really terrific stuff. I don't understand why people would settle for the awful chains of Sub-Jimmy whatever when this kind of quality is available. Usually empty, often with Frank playing. Don't forget to wear your fedora.
(4)Jacob D.
This is a real, honest-to-goodness Italian deli and sandwich shop, the kind my Dad used to take me to in Buffalo when I was a kid. I tried the Italian hoagie and the meatball sandwich. Both were excellent and authentic. Then I had a cannolo (not a cannoli; cannoli is plural) and it was everything I wanted it to be. Lastly I bought a bunch of charcuterie for home. If you like Italian working man's food, you must come here. Yes, you can get some of this stuff at the grocery store, but not all of it. You won't find sweet copa ham at any grocery store I have been to around here, nor real prosciutto di parma. You also are unlikely to find real cannoli (not cannolis; cannoli is already plural). A real cannolo is stuffed with a sweet cheese mixture, not whipped cream, and it is not to be missed. I drove almost an hour to get here and I would do it again. He has a very small number of tables and the place is only going to increase in popularity; consider getting your meal to go.
(5)J H.
Great sandwich spot. Space inside is a little small, but great to visit in the summer, outside seating available. Also great for to-go orders.
(5)Eric N.
I can no longer say there are no good sandwiches on this side of the country! Mark has done an excellent job of sourcing just the right things to make a perfect hoagie. Yes, Portland, you are supposed to be able to bite through the bread without smashing your sandwich. The freshly filled cannoli could make it into The Godfather. Stop reading and go get a sandwich.
(5)Kari B.
For my east coast friends this place is for you with all the classic meats and treats you talk about, and they do cold cuts by the pound.
(5)John B.
Excellent sandwiches--hard to pick which one to get. Prices beyond reasonable. Great service. Solid neighborhood spot, gets busy sometimes with good reason but always worth any small wait.
(5)Bob D.
Reminded me of the Italian food I grew on with in Chicago. Walking in the door, I could smell real Italian cheese which reminded me of the deli's in the old neighborhood. My son and I dropped in for a meat ball sandwich and a big bowl of Italian wedding soup. Both are very good. As a bonus Bacchi's has the best gelato in Portland.
(5)Sudipto G.
Grabbed a sandwich from here to eat on my flight to SFO. Was a decent sandwich, though I have had much better in Portland, extra points because it is far off from the major business areas in pdx but still has a good food menu.
(3)Catfish F.
I just discovered this deli in my neighborhood and I am thrilled to have some variety in restaurants! I had the Meatball Parmesan which was delicious! I would definitely recommend this place! PS...the people who work there are very friendly too! ;)
(5)Danielle R.
Yum yum yum yum yum. Great coffee, desserts and pastries. If you're looking for an authentic Italian sub, this is the real deal. Mark and his family are great people and I come here at least once a week. So great to have them in the neighborhood!
(5)Ben C.
When I first moved to Boulder, CO. I sought out the most legit Italian deli in the city and wrote one of my first Yelp reviews. I just moved to Portland, sensing a pattern? This place is tucked away but it happened to be right near where I was chilling, at a dog park (I'm kinda doing a dog park tour of the city). I entered with high expectations and they were met immediately as I looked at the cooler to see what they were serving - all meats and cheeses shipped from New York. Mark, the owner, was busy when I came in. But as soon as I started talking to him about my roots on Long Island, he opened up. He's a south Jersey guy, and he's working hard on bringing the authentic east coast Italian deli flavor to Portland. I've only had the meatball sub and the egg/potato salad so far, but I can tell already he's doing a damn fine job. The meatballs were perfect and the sauce was savory -- not too sweet, a pet peeve of mine, especially on hoagies. My only complaint is that the cheese (which was delicious) stuck to the foil when I got it to go. I plan to come back to this deli and get my fix whenever I need it, and I've gotta say, Mark's a really nice guy, even though he's a Phillies fan.
(4)Rachel P.
I've gone here at least a dozen times since their opening and I am always extremely happy with anything I get, absolutely anything. Now when I go in I don't even read the menu, I just order. Because I know what ever I get I will be more than satisfied.
(5)Brian F.
Jersey comes to Portland! Real deal Jersey subs. Carnegie Deli cheesecake, gelato, good espresso. Sliced quality deli meats. Love love love this place.
(5)Isaac M.
A new delicatessen in NE Portland! It just opened in March, 2013. I came to take a look and picked the Tony Starlight panini. It was a very tasty, light, toasted sandwich. Comes with your choice of Tim's Cascade style potato chips and a pickle. Very friendly staff and appears to be family owned and operated. They have 5 two-person tables for dining in and 2 comfy leather chairs to relax in while you sip your cappuccino.
(5)Pete The Pu P.
I'm from Philly/East Coast and their Italian is excellent. All sandwiches are served with kosher pickel and a bag of chips!
(5)Jacob V.
Wow im going back several times! There are so many choices the meat(capicolla, proscuitto) was excellent flavor and balance unlike the usual oversaltyness that comes from this meat on my Gabagool. The cherry peppers were the best ive ever had crunchy they were crunchy! We also had a mind blowing canoli! I was so stuffed I almost left the pickle on the plate but I gladly ate that yummy garlic flavored treat! I just recommend pay this place a visit bring your friends they will thank you. The owner is from Jersey and says he opened the shop up because he couldnt find anything like back home. Oh the atmosphere is very comfy with old classics like the rat pack playing in the background.
(5)Fran L.
Wonderful!! I'm from New York and really loved the excellent sandwich and soup. Owner very personable and cares about his quality. Cannoli was terrific. Going back!! Excellent value for quality. Go, relax and enjoy a good sandwich.
(5)Dawn N.
I saw this deli a mile down the road from me a few months ago and finally had the chance to check it out. I knew I came to the right place when I walked in and saw Tasty Kakes on the counter!! (only known to Philly and South Jersey). I hoped that they might have the crown jewel of Italian dessert (No -- not tiramisu!) --- CANNOLI! Whenever I go back home to Philly and visit folks in South Jersey I have at least 3 cannoli. Portlandlanders --- if you want to try a REAL cannoli -- fresh, fresh ricotta, not too sweet, filled in a fresh crispy shell only stuffed as you order it --- come to Bacchi's. It was the best cannoli I've had in about 10 years. Comparable to Termini's Italian bakery in the Reading Terminal of Philadelphia!!! Viva Bacchi's! I can't wait to go back to have a real hoagie. I invited my neighbor the moment I returned home. Will be back in a few days!
(5)Charlene P.
Went there the first time today and got a latte and margherita panini and it was absolutely delicious. I am happy that there is another option for lattes on this part of sandy, I am tired of supporting the starbucks in safeway. Edit: Was giving it four stars but I just read on the menu that the sandwiches come with chips, mine didnt
(3)Crystal L.
I had the meatball sandwich which is incredible. This place is just like a true Italian deli. I would love to see them expand to selling Italian delicacies. This place is a total recommend. So visit it!
(4)Jre L.
Just went today and reminded me of da's in la super good and fresh
(4)Eric M.
This place is easy to miss; don't! Quality fresh cuts of deli meat on fresh bread make the sandwiches here a standout. The shop itself has a fun feel, and the service is fast and friendly.
(5)Frank K.
Not bad.... Not bad at all.... In my desperate search for a good meatball sandwich (and coming out that way to "Winks Hardware", I decided to follow my Yelping Brethrens' advice and try the place.. Now mind you this is NOT The Monte Carlo or Bay Cities Delis in LA, nor the Central Grocery in the OTHER LA (Louisianna), nor the Molinari or Marina Delis in SF. To NOT mention "Fiore Deli" in Hoboken would be criminal!! Nup, you ain'ta gunna finda no Caper Berries here, but you WILL find a darned good sandwich, friendly folks, and a nice corner table so you don't scare anybody as you consume your food.. I noted that the bun, which was TRUE "Italiano" (NOT Foccacia or any other nonsense), might have been a "Day Old" sent from the vendor, but it was STILL good... Just not "Perfect"!! Toasting it would have helped... See if you can pay a little extra and get a side of their good looking pasta or potato salads.. For some reasons, chips do NOT complete this meal.. The Meatballs were quite good, but the marinara could use a bit more spices for my tastes. But then, what would an Irish/Dane know about Italian??? Simply by Osmosis my Dear ones, simply by Osmosis.... Just plain lucky to have had so many wunnerfull Italians in my life!! I'll go back, especially with the hopes the Folks here can refine and dial in what they've got a good start at!!
(3)Casey A.
This place is ok, not the best and not the worst. I went in today and ordered a bagel and a small fruit salad (both things that are on the menu) and I was told that they don't carry fruit salad in the fall. First off, that makes absolutely zero sense. Fruit is always seasonal and always available. Second, if you're not going to carry fruit in the fall, say so on the menu. I specifically went to this place after viewing the menu online, seeing fruit salad and wanting that in particular. Not good business IMO
(2)Marty O.
Excellent New Jersey Italian Deli. Sandwich was excellent, and served on a great roll. Great pickle too. The macaroni and potato salads were very tasty. Next time, we'll try the gelato.
(5)Jeremy D.
I'm from NY and generally I love the food scene here in Portland. Although the one category that is almost always overrated would be Italian. Especially Italian deli-style sub sandwiches. Bacci's is an awesome break from the otherwise overpriced, bland Italian (wannabe) food you'll eat in Portland. The owner is friendly and takes pride in delivering a true Philly-style Italian sandwich. I've tried both his meatball sub and Italian combo. Both reminded me of home and I'm super glad to have found a go-to sandwich spot. You can tell there's love in the food and I think that might be the main ingredient missing from almost all other Italian restaurants in Portland. He also does gelato, fresh soups and espresso. I need this place to stick around so go try them, you won't regret it.
(5)Kris F.
Solidly good Hoagie! A godsend for this Philly girl. Roll had just the right toothsome-ness. The only thing I'd change would be red wine vinegar instead of balsamic, but that's just me. A real treat, I'll be back!!
(4)Danielle T.
DELICIOUS! Delicious doesn't do this place justice! For all us East Coasters needing an Italian Sub, Cannoli, Italian cookie, coffee, even gelato, between our visits back home, Bacchi's is the place to go! Hands down BEST Italian Deli in Portland, with imported meats, and fresh hoagie rolls perfecto! Fortunately for my taste buds it's located a few blocks away, unfortunately for my waistline it's located just a few blocks away. The cannoli was so great, the sandwich was so great, the service was warm and friendly with an East Coast accent. I hope everyone goes to try it out, I promise it will be your first of many visits! We have to keep this place in business for a long long time!
(5)J B.
Delicious! Italian hoagie was quite filling with very good meat to bread to filling ratios. Veggie sandwich and large salad were flavorful and satisfying for a dinner. Exceptional gelato! We were very glad we took 2 pints to go. Our servers were welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. We can't wait to work our way through their menu. Call-in orders for pick up as a fast and easy, delicious lunch or dinner option.
(5)Cassandra D.
I had a very tasty tuna sub with chips and a pickle. I'm going to have to bring a meat eating friend back to taste the meatier sandwiches - but everyone who was chowing down there looked very happy.
(3)Bob E.
Have been wanting to visit here for some time as I heard they carried Thumann's meat and cheese products. Being from the east coast originally and stuck so far away from my favorite meats and cheeses I was really looking forward to tasting some great deli meats again. We decided to have lunch while we were there and super glad we did, the owner was extremely friendly and loved chatting about the food and experiences from the east coast, the food was prepared as I would expect from a family run Italian deli in Jersey or New York, perfect folds of ham and cheese building a perfect balance stacked on amazing Thumann's mustard to bring it all together, a excellent side of Potato Salad that would make your Grandma steal your bowl, while we ate and waited for them to slice our meat order we noticed they also serve Carnegie Cheesecake which if you have never had the pleasure of tasting you must! We snagged a slice to go and devoured it while pulling out of the parking lot lol, I think it was gone before we got three blocks away, I look forward to our next trip to portland and we will definitely be stopping in for more!
(5)Joanna R.
Absolutely love Bacchi's! Amazing meatball sub--next time I'll ask for some extra marinara on the side, but it was extremely good even without that! Great place to grab an espresso as well. Very personable staff who are happy to cater to customers' needs. Relaxing atmosphere. Love the classy crooner music playing! Owner almost always there and attending to input from customers. Highly recommend it!
(5)rick v.
I was surprised when I got to Bacchi's. I'd done an internet search looking for one of those Italian delis with piles of various crusty breads, a decent selection of salumi, house made mozza, three major types of quality prosciutto, and all those interesting tins and jars of Italian culinaria. This isn't that kind of place. It's a soup and sandwich counter with a very limited chill case. It might produce quite decent soups and sandwichs, but I wonder about the source of the rave reviews. I base my rating on having prowled many east coast Italian deli's, and I find a fair bit of hyperbole in the words of others.
(3)Tony F.
To call the owner of Bacchis a master craftsman would only begin to describe the amazing, delicious and wonderful food he creates. This IS the kind of food and restaurant I seek. On EVERY level he delivers pure perfection. I had his meatball parm and my wife his gabagool sandwich. BOTH were the definition of home style hand crafted works of edible art. For desert we had his Canoli's. One taste and my mind was flooded by memories. I grew up in NJ in Italian /American neighborhoods. Bacchis has manged to capture the very soul of what that means. Do you want to know what the food tastes like as featured on "The Godfather", 'the Sopranos' or any other media set in NJ/NY, eat here, you will be treated to a taste of that world. For myself? This was a nostalgic experience and I am grateful & humbled by the skills and food presented here. I am NOT a relative of the owner and I just met him for the first time yesterday, so be assured, this review is genuine, sincere and honest. Final words: EAT HERE,YOU CANT GO WRONG.
(5)Mz S.
The lemon gelatto is delicious here.
(5)J. O.
I just had the Italian hoagie. It was wonderful! Fat with meats & cheese & seasoned with oil & vinegar & oregano, just like they do it back home in south Jersey. The cannoli was also excellent. I'm so glad this place is here!!
(5)Angie R.
Best sandwich I've had in a while!
(5)Adam S.
Awesome grilled Reuben! Really nice vibe in this little place. The Americano I had was better than most coffee shops I've been to. I'll be back to try the gelato next time...
(5)KT L.
Bacchi's is a family run, wonderfully friendly and exceptional Itialian Deli. I love that they truck in the ingredients fresh from the East Coast and prepare a genuine experience in the form of a sandwhich. Thank you for bringing a little bit of heaven to my neighborhood. We are SO happy you came!
(5)Gary A.
A great new place in the neighborhood. Excellent food. It is now one of the favorite places.
(5)Sue B.
Very glad to see a cute place like this on Sandy. I've tried several things so far, coffee, sandwiches and salads, and everything has been very good. The service is always friendly. Great quality, reasonable prices. Not much seating inside, but they usually have some outside tables when the weather is nicer.
(5)David H.
Best Ruben sandwich EVER! Super friendly staff. Its usually super crowded because they are in a tiny little storefront... but SO worth the wait!
(5)Jon Y.
Back for another round of sandwiches, coffee, and gelato! Mark is still working hard to keep the neighborhood happy and healthy! We'll surely be in for some gelato on these precious hot summer days! Cheers!
(5)Geoff Z.
Hoping to update this review later at some point with more stars, because I really (reallllllly!) wanted to love it after hunting it down via Yelp. Maybe next time. For the price and size, there will be a next time though, I'm determined. I should note, both employees were extremely friendly and this is probably why I went with three stars instead of two. Just went and had the Italian hoagie and was pretty disappointed. Bread looked and tasted rather stale and that is beyond a deal breaker. It's a sando tragedy. I hope this was just a one time slip up, but honestly it reminded me of bread you'd get from a small town 24 hour Subway. When this happens, I normally just deal with it and gobble it down, but I quickly became a picker and started pulling the meat and cheese away, both of which were actually phenomenal. I read a few other reviews about this sweet balsamic added to the hoagie. I was not feeling this surprise at all. It tasted almost like I had some sort of jelly caked on which completely threw off my expectations of getting Italian meats with a splash of tangy dressing from the oil and vinegar. Seeing a lot of these "east coast" sandwich comparisons...is that your thing with the sweetness? If so, I don't understand, I think you guys are weird and I'm out. I'll be back if in the area, but definitely going to order something different. Canolli?
(3)Vinnie B.
I decided to check out this place for lunch. The deli is pretty small inside but they make great use of their space. I ordered the Italian Hoogie Sandwich, I really liked this sandwich due to the fact it was NOT over salted ( seems to be my biggest issue with other shops) the dressing that they put inside the sandwich is more on the balsamic side of dressings, and it really adds to a already full flavored Italian Sub. You get a bag of chips with every sandwich! Yes, I had to have the Cannoli. Ever since Di Prima Dolce closed, (they had the best in town). I would say this place now gets crowned as the best. This customer friendly business holds up to some of the best Sandwich places in Portland. Such as, Shut up and Eat, Lardo and Bunk. The prices for what you get, I thought were pretty fair considering the quality of the product. Some outdoor seating is available and take out is a great option. ( pick up a sandwich, pop open a cold one and take a selfie of yourself smiling.. Ha-ha. ) Can't wait to come back and try something new.
(4)Jeremy B.
I like nearby Ira's Deli much better. At Bacchi's, the sandwiches are small for the price, and the bread was pretty tough. The proprietor is a really friendly guy though, so it's a fine place to have a cup of coffee and chat.
(2)Michael W.
I like this place so far! Really yummy cannoli. Nice effort. I would like to see some citron added, or a touch more shaved chocolate. Good coffee. Well constructed grinders. Cut on one side, so the oil doesn't drop all over. The Gabagool very, very tasty - excellent prosciutto, and capicola. This is a nice lunch spot - stop here. Mark is a right friendly chap

Landed in Portland and was craving a sandwich. Hoped on yelp and discovered this spot. They offer a prefixed menu of breakfast and lunch deli items very European inspired. Ordered the Reuben and gabagool an split them with my sister in law. We both decided that yes, the sandwiches were good, but they both needed a little more dressing. The meat, cheese and bread offered great quality, but just needed a little more sauce flavoring. I also ordered a drip coffee and it was perfect!

Being from the east coast and the Northeast specifically, one grows up with certain amenities. Italian delis are one of those. When I moved to Texas, it took several years before I found an old school Italian deli, and it has been around for over 40 years in Dallas. Now that I live in Portland, I figured I wasn't going to find such a place and then by random chance, I found Bacchi's. This is just a sandwich shop, so you're not going to find off brands of pasta or large tins of imported olive oil or meats hanging from the rafters. What you will find are folks from south Jersey/ Philly area who moved to this area and opened up a pretty good place to get a great sandwich that is actually a sandwich. For those from the northeast, they do have Tastykakes! The sandwiches are the star here and the Thumann's meats are also an east coast thing and makes it that much better. Italian hoagies, the Gabagool were where my interests went to. Capicola, prosciutto, provolone, hot peppers and Gabagool sauce. Essentially and oil and vinegar based sauce. So good. They have hot subs and even muffulettas plus canollis if you have the room. Do get over to Bacchi's, talk to some Eagles football, talk cheesesteaks and talk Italian food. Enjoy.

Ordered a deli platter from them for a party. Prices were fair, quality of meats and cheeses were fantastic, and the service was great. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mark and Bacchi's for anyone looking for some great deli!

I'm thoroughly impressed by the freshness of the food here. It really is a true and authentic Italian deli. Everything is made to order. Prices are reasonable. Plus, nothing beats the gorgeous cannoli that reminds you of being in Italy.

Well crafted sandwich with quality ingredients. I really loved my Gabagool Fredo sandwich! Really quality products used, delicious meats! The use a panini press so it comes out nice and warm with a little crust and melty cheese. Can't go wrong. It comes with a spear of dill pickles and a bag of chips. The wait can be a little daunting. I think we waited maybe 20 mins for our sandwiches. I recommend calling it in. That's definitely what we'll do next time.

Holy smokes! First time here today and I was going solely off of yelp reviews. This place may be a small sandwich shop, but they do not skip on the flavor. I had one of the best meatball subs I have ever us today. I will definitely be back!

Pretty legit sandwich spot. I'm not sure of the owner's name, but he's always there keeping things running smooth and offering friendly conversation to the customers. I haven't had a sando here that I did not love. Stoked it's nearby.

My sandwich was great, prices reasonable and very friendly customer service. But it took 50 minutes for my sandwich to come out, my friend's took even longer (she was offered a refund and took her food to go so she wasn't late getting back to work!). I think they were prepping for a catering gig and hopefully they bump up their staff in the future!

I've been searching for a place to scratch my cannoli itch ever since the departure of the Holy Cannoli food cart a few years back. A friend recommended Bacchi's, and I am so glad he did! The cannoli are absolutely delicious, and none of this "mini" size that seems to be in vogue at the moment. Next time, my husband wants to try their tiramisu!

Sue and I came here over the weekend. It had been a while since we made it over. The sandwich was good as usual, but this time we ordered a cannoli as well. Probably the best cannoli I have had so far in Portland. The best part is that they don't fill it until you order it. That is key.

Quick service by a friendly staff. Good sized sandwich for a fair price ($8.00 for the Italian). Quality bread and ingredients. I'd go back but...closing at 7 makes that unlikely.

This little deli is more than worth the stop. Great food as well as the service. I'll be back that is for sure. Cute inside, take a load off and just enjoy yourself and eat here.

The Gabagool sandwich was a delicious meat treat! They've got breakfast sandwiches and gelato that I'm excited to try. The place is cutely decorated, with tasteful music playing and happy employees. I will be back!

After much debate over where to have lunch my co-worker and I stopped into Bacchi's today and within minutes we realized we had made the right decision. Friendly and efficient counter service was a good start. Then 2 gabagool freddo sandwiches confirmed that the food was as good as the service. The quad shot americano had the perfect amount of richness and smooth caramel feel to it. The owner was very friendly as we talked about italian restaurants and he sold us on a scoop of the most amazing pistachio gelato I've ever had. A great lunch, we'll be back for sure.

I was looking specifically for an authentic Italian sub sandwich and I found it. The Italian hoagie I discovered in the quaint corner business called Bacchis!! Tiny little place and it got busy quick. Great food though with a good size portion and they have multiple flavored of Gelato. Kind staff, they hopefully will find a bigger place soon, they need it.

Solid 4 stars... 5 stars is reserved for outstanding higher end restaurants. All I need to say is I will be back. I will be back. I WILL BE BACK!!! Great authentic Italian Deli. Real Pinini sandwiches. Fantastic Wedding soup. This is a must go deli!!!! Like I said Bacchi's... I will be back!!!

Solid east coast sub. I do think the balsamic takes it in a different direction, I am partial to the red wine. Bread is a little fluffy but still solid, and the meat and cheese was great. Glad I found this place.

I finally got to try this place. This tiny space, tucked away off Sandy Blvd can really put out a sandwich. I had the Italian hoagie and my wife had the margherita panini. The hoagie was stuffed with quality cuts and the bread held it all together like it should. The panini was all around delicious with a tangy Italian dressing that had me asking for more bites. The potato and pasta salad were just ok, I wouldn't order them again. But the pickle? This giant, quarter spear packed a punch! A great dill flavor with a heavy garlic base. The real star here was the gelato. It was smooth and dense. I'll definitely be back for that. We were told that the flavors change weekly. The service was friendly and seems to be family ran. My only true complaints are the lack of parking and the tiny dining area.

I had been craving a good Italian cappuccino ever since I returned from a trip to Southern Italy last year. Came across this quaint little Italian delicatessen that seemed like a promising place to satisfy my craving. This place is awesome!! I did not leave disappointed. I had the Italian hoagie which was made with high quality meats and cheese and perfectly dressed. My cappuccino was smooth and strong just like it should be. Will definitely be back to Bacchi's soon!

This is a classic Italian deli, complete with all the sandwich, salad and gelato options you'd expect. While they lack the variety some similar delis have, they make up for it with focus and quality. Vegetarian and Reuben (goyish though it be) are highly recommended. Great atmosphere, with wi fi and cozy seating. Tremendous service. In an up and coming neighborhood with lots of great options, this place still stands out. Kudos.

These guys are great. I'm a regular, the food is always good. They use great quality meats and cheeses. Prices are fair $8 for most sandwiches with chips. Try the soups they're all good, Friday's clam chowder is my favorite. I like that it's local and chances are good the owner or his son are making your lunch. This place could/should occupy a space much larger...like Elephants deli. They often stock Tastycakes and Taylor's Porkroll...two east coast staples that are difficult to find in Portland which I appreciate. Glad they're in the neighborhood! Give this place a try you won't be disappointed! Keep up the good work!

Simply put this is a damn good deli. The Gabogool is fantastic. But to be honest everything I have had here is fantastic. This is a true Italian delicatessen. All of the sandwiches are made fresh with care and frankly they are pretty darn big. This little joint also had some pretty good espresso and gelato. It looks like they have also applied for a liquor license so my guess is beer and wine to come soon. I usually find myself stopping in for a breakfast bagel, it is open early and quiet in the mornings. It gets busy for lunch and has some outdoor seats to enjoy the limited Portland Sunshine.

Get the meatball sub, Caprese salad, and gelato. The soups are also worth checking out. One time, I got a clam chowder and LOVED it. The standard deli sandwiches and meats are nothing special.

I'm not certain how hot capicola became my favorite lunch meat, but it did many years ago. I am certain that it is not readily available, because I rarely see it offered. The hot Gabagool sandwich at Bacchi's is filled with hot capicola, proscuitto, provolone, hot cherry peppers and the special gabagool sauce which the owner invented. It is more than delicious. It is incredible. Who would figure to find such a wonderful sandwich (and great homemade soups) on Sandy Blvd. in Portland? I am grateful that I am one of the lucky ones. I only regret that I don't live closer. Mark, the proprietor, is friendly and you can tell that he loves what he is doing, bringing a great Italian deli to Portland.

Empty restaurant, still took 20+ minutes to make 3 sandwiches. Veggie sandwich was kinda bad or maybe was not supposed to be for a take out. Was too soggy and tasteless by the time I ate it, which was not that long after it was made. The panini was good. Owner not very friendly, kids working there were nice. Overall, meh.

Delicious sandwiches. The Italian Hoagie is a traditional taste of the East Coast. The owner was personable and treated all customers as if they were regulars.
