Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Lunch here yesterday was just what I wanted. Acapulco's Southwest Gold is a friendly place, and they won't rush you out when you're finished eating. Sitting in a booth facing the front windows is a good place to catch glimpses of the diverse peoples wandering Multnomah Village's main street. It makes a pleasant start to hanging out with a friend on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the Enchilada Del Mar (shrimp, spinach, mushrooms), no cheese. It came out piping hot with small sides of black beans, salad, and Mexican rice. The ingredients tasted fresh and the salsa verde was spicy! The portion wasn't overly large, which was a good thing because my gf and I tore through two baskets of warm, crunchy chips with tomato salsa while we chatted and waited for our food. Fun fact: This restaurant's tiny bathroom is painted from floor to ceiling with cartoonish jungle animals! I love it.

Yuckers. Bad service, stale storebought chips and watery salsa, meh chimichangas (not even served with beans and rice on the side--that's just wrong). SO many better food options in the Village, and better Mexican options almost anywhere. Bummer. It's close to home, we would come here all the time if it was better.

Went here last friday. We weren't that hungry so we only got a guacamole place. It was really good, the guacamole was fresh and the chips had just freshly been baked. It is a nice little restaurant, but not great for big groups. The beer price was also great. $5 for a pitcher of PBR (though it might have been smaller than a normal sized pitcher). Probably will go back for a full meal.

This place doesn't even deserve ONE star. The guy who owns the Acapulco's Southwest Gold saw me nursing my 9 month old baby and told his waiter "Now we've got a woman over here breastfeeding... Kick her OUT..." I was appalled. I just got up and left. This guy is insensitive to a mother & child's needs. I WILL NOT BE RETURNING. To all the mothers out there, BEWARE!

This place is disgusting! I am Mexican American and I grew up in California with real authentic food from my mothers kitchen. Mexican food has to be the EASIEST to prepare with simple basic ingredients. The cooks obviously have no idea what Mexican food is. Everything was poor quality from a can and box. The guys aren't latin, they look like a bunch of college frat boys. Okay, I go to school near this location and I met the owners son on the bus one day, he happened to suggest their soup, recommended and invited my boyfriend and I to stop by for margaritas on the house. We were thinking, "Yeah, free drinks, sure!" Well, a couple weeks ago, we decided to try it out, and I should have known that it was not going to be authentic. Look, I have had Mexican food that was southwest but not so bad? Their pork was served with BBQ sauce. It was nasty. I couldn't eat it all. That gross. Everything was poorly prepared. I'd have to agree with everyone about the chips, they were stale and awful. They probably get their food from Costco. I am thinking they are trustafarians who are dirt cheap and think they can serve food in an area such as Multonomah Village. Turns out, people in Oregon do know what Mexican food is all about, just from reading the reviews, I have more faith in our locals. This place needs to be closed down! Oh, and the son of the owner, he ripped us off, never kept his word for the free margaritas, even their drinks are over priced. Not only that, he was on his cell phone showing photos to his friend behind the counter the whole time we dined. They dress casual, the waiters look like they are from beach town, basic douche bag guys. The worst Mexican food I have ever tasted in my whole entire life. Do not waste your money here. I don't know how these guys pay their rent in Multonomah Village? THIS PLACE SUCKS! DO NOT SUPPORT THEIR BUSINESS! They must be trustafarians ripping people off? Yes, I think so.

I'm honestly shocked that someone would eat here then decide to go back. So bummed as I just moved to the area and have been loving on Renners (definitely a better option than this joke) but finally decided to check this place out as I am a huge Mexican fan. As soon as he set down that lame excuse for torilla chips I had a bad feeling about this place. The chips were (no doubt) chips that came out of a bag. The salsa was the same disaster as the chips, bland with a distinctive canned tomato flavor. That's supposed to be one of the best parts about a Mexican Restaurant. My friend had never gotten a chimichanga before and that was unfortunately her first. It was hardly deep-fried so it just had this odd not very crunchy texture. My chicken quesadilla was so bland, came with no sour cream or sauce and actually had a sad excuse for a salad with ranch on it (????) To make matters worse, I ordered a side of sour cream and there was a suspicious furry looking spot on the corner. Oh, and the server was wearing flip flops. Sorry, but I would prefer to not eat while looking at your man-feet. This is a great location and is a TOTAL waste of space. As a culinary professional I am sad and angered that they are operating at such a pathetic level. Please DO NOT eat here, maybe they will realize they need to change a few things before they have the right to serve food to people.

Only good thing I can say is the food is *sorta* edible. Bad salsa, worse chips. You can tell a lot about a Mexican place by the level of chips and salsa. Honestly, there's NO excuse for a bowl of bad-quality, store-bought chips in a Mexican restaurant, EVER. It shows a lack of attention to detail, if nothing else. Not good Mexican food at all. Way overpriced for what you get. Service was terrible. It's a great location, so that must be how this place even stays in business. (That and the margaritas, I guess -- maybe if you drink enough there you don't notice the bad food and worse service.) But I'd rather see something worthwhile there. For now, don't waste your time or money in this spot.

Oh boy, this is NOT good....to bad, it has a lot of potential being in a great neighborhood. The food was terrible, bland, tasteless. I think I'd rather eat cardboard. Try it & tell me I'm wroing, I dare ya.....

Great food, one of Portland's staple restaurants. It has been years since I came here and it is as good as I remember when I was a kid. I had an enchilada that was delicious and full of fresh ingredients. My wife had the shrimp quesadilla and couldn't stop raving about it. Great margaritas to boot! Also the chips are clearly made there, they are light and not greasy. To those who complain about the service, this is not a four star restaurant, it is a hole in the wall Mexican joint, go downtown if you want the ritz, and tip accordingly.

Stopped by for lunch because I thought it would be similar to the Acapulco gold in nw, which is ok. This place was awful. Granted, the taco salad that I ordered isn't the most creative dish on the menu, but the meat was watery and tasteless, not to mention the dish was tiny and expensive. Pretty sure the chips were out of a bag, and the salsa was bland. The service was pretty quick, which is the ONLY reason it's getting 2 stars. After I got my bill, I realized I would have gotten better food for much cheaper if I just went to taco time, which is a sad revelation.

I read the reviews before going in, but to my suprise, not a bad place. Service was decent as was the food. I would have liked to see the chips refilled....but overall good....I'll be back.

We went for our first dinner out as a new family. Didn't have a great experience, partly because our baby chose to have a minor meltdown. But a lot had to do with the restaurant: Pros - location, real highchairs (not sure how clean they were, though) Cons - price (everything about $10-15--I was used to Mexican food being $5-10); food quality (wasn't great for what we paid); ambience (I felt like an outsider because the owner/manager? was going around greeting his friends and we weren't a part of the 'inner circle') Won't go back, even though we love Mexican food and live down the street.

This restaurant is the biggest waste of real estate in Multnomah Village. It has one of the most visible store fronts but they serve just awful food. Can't believe people still go there. Nothing redeeming I can say about their food at all. Simply put, it is tasteless. It is a sin to foist such rubbish on the public and call it "Mexican". Wish I could give them zero stars. Hope the owners decide to move the business out to the burbs and open up this spot for something decent. Any other place in SW Portland serving Mexican food would be a better choice. If you get a hankering for an enchilada, walk down the street to O'Connors. While not great, it is miles ahead of this place.

Terrible. We were sitting at the back, left table of the restaurant, giving me a view of the kitchen through the window. I was horrified to watch them put our dishes in the microwave for several minutes. I thought about leaving right then, so they are lucky that we stuck around to eat our dull, overpriced food and pay the bill. The waitress was very nice and attentive, but I suggest that you find a different 'Mexican' restaurant.

This is the worst mexican food I've ever eaten in my entire life. Allow me to elaborate! The chips were CLEARLY straight out of a bag, not even warmed up in an attempt to mask their stale-ness. I'm guessing they were the Kettle Organic Tortilla chips? Or some other "natural" brand of chips. That's what they tasted like. The menu was waaaaaaay overpriced. The RICE was clearly made out of a box as well. Because well, it tasted nearly identical to the Mexican Rice mix I bought a couple weeks ago. Acceptable when I make rice-out-of-a-box (I know how to make it from scratch, but it takes forever and isn't worth it when you're only cooking for 1 or 2 people), UNacceptable for a restaurant to be making it out of a box. When you're cooking on large scale how hard is it to really make it right? The beans were bland and flavorless. The little bit of spice they had did not make up for not having any flavor otherwise. The Chile Relleno was made from canned chiles and coated in a scrambled egg like substance. It was the only remotely edible thing on my plate, other than the side salad it came with. I don't know what I was expecting when I came here. It looked like a good place from the outside but boy, it was definitely not. I felt mad that I paid the full bill ($30) instead of asking for my food to be taken off. My boyfriend ate his plate, but I couldn't eat even half of mine. If you're in the hood and looking for edible Mexican food...go to Hillsdale and eat at Muchas Gracias!
