Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Family run Mexican joint. Don't let the outside fool you, they make some seriously good food here. I've had everything from tacos to shrimp soup (caldo de camaron), and everything has been excellent. I would caution vegetarians though, as on more than once occasion my friend's veggie burrito has had little pieces of meat that must have been on the grill from another order... so yeah. Carnitas is bomb though!

I happened upon this place while looking for another restaurant nearby that had closed. I ordered the lunch special - chiles rellenos. It came with a large cheese chile relleno, refried beans, spanish rice and a small salad for about $8, and had a large horchata to drink (very refreshing). I was offered a choice of corn or flour tortillas. I ordered corn and they arrived piping hot and wrapped up. The restaurant is small, but clean. The bathroom is clean and decorated (always a good sign). The menu is quite large -- pretty much anything you'd want to order is on the menu. Since I have been there only once (and will go back) I can't extensively comment, but the food is tasty and authentic. They offer a variety of meat, seafood and vegetarian entrees. Service was courteous and efficient. There were very attractive small picnic tables with umbrellas for those who wish to eat outside -- it was a little too hot today, so I did not. North Lombard Street can be busy during the day, it calms down quite a bit in the evening. They prepare take out orders, but no delivery. While I was there, a tall Portlandian bopped in and waited for his takeout order. When he paid, he informed the very polite chef in mellow tones that "I just f---in' love your guacamole, it's the f--in' best guac!!" and floated out. So maybe I'll try the guacamole next time (but avoid the f----ing swearing). If later visits hold up, I would bump this up to a 5 star rating.

My husband and I live in the neighborhood and are excited to have businesses like this pop up in Piedmont, which is a predominantly residential neighborhood (Not like Alberta or something). We've been here a handful of times now. The food is good and authentic. If you want extras on your tacos like cheese, crema, pico--ask for it. Burritos are also good and the guac is fresh made and delicious. Generally, the meat is good too. The owners are nice and I'm happy to see more positive reviews on yelp and people checking it out.

Very authentic & flavorful Mexican food with high-quality ingredients. Sweet family-owned business (you can watch their kids color while you wait). The fish tacos are SO good, great guacamole & sides (I wish I could comment on their whole menu, but I am addicted to the fish tacos). It is more substance over style for sure, but look past the trappings & you will be richly rewarded!

Always delicious & authentic! Great service, ran by a friendly family.

This is place has some legit, flavorful well-priced and FAST Mexican food! I ordered 3 carne asada tacos (just $1.80 each!) and they were all on the bigger corn tortillas with plenty of meat. I have a high amount of disdain for places that serve those tiny, piddly corn tortillas and then have the nerve to change upwards of $3.00 per taco. Give me authentic, hole-in-the-wall any day over the so called 'artisan' tacos. I added a side order of rice and beans to round out the meal. They have a small salsa bar with peppers/carrots, as well as green salsa. You can load up as many plastic cups with those items as you would like. I would have to assumed that they normally have the red salsa too, but it wasn't out when I was there. If you dine in, there are many different types of hot sauces on the tables. My only criticism (and this is just personal) but I wished they'd added more cilantro and onions to the tacos, it was a little sparse. If I go back, I'll ask for extra. Also, they didn't serve limes with them. I probably should have asked but, most places will just throw a few in there for you.

The BEST Mexican food we've had in Portland. Thank goodness! Come here for super flavorful meats, the freshest tortillas, and mom/pop atmosphere. You'll be glad you did.

Good neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Service can be slow but the chimichanga is worth the wait. Don't forget to get the red and green sauces (to-go or in the bottles) for your meal. I haven't branched out much beyond the chimichanga so I can't attest to the rest of the menu but it looks to be solid food all around.

The food was great, we had tacos and a bean and cheese burrito. The staff was friendly and getting the food was quick.

Go here and get the Mole! Our first visit last week was a very good experience. ***The STAR of the night was their Mole Chicken platter. This was really really delicious. A good serving of chicken covered in sauce, served with tortillas and side of beans and rice. I think they also had Mole as a choice in a burrito. I will definitely get something Mole again when I return. This turned into two meals and it was just as good the next day. The Chile Relleno burrito was huge! And heavy! Like a brick. And very very good. As were the carnitas tacos. Mexican cokes (No HFCS!) available in the bottle. Choices of salsa (the red is dang hot, in a good way). Friendly people are working here. I believe it is all made fresh, so it took a little longer. I am really looking forward to going back. This place will very likely spike up to a 5 STAR for me if they are consistently good. Side note- I see someone else gave Acapulco Grill a "One Star" because the quesadilla was "not great". Well, we found the quesadilla to be very good. Utilitarian, but very good. C'mon...A quesadilla is a boring item! To rate a place poorly because they tried one thing (a boring item, too, in my opinion) is like dunning an entire breakfast restaurant because the toast was boring. Go here and get the Mole!

I'm hungry. I just walked a mile to get a burrito and guess what? They're randomly closed. No note or anything. They just weren't there. Ratings: Food: 5 stars reliability: 0 stars.

I stopped in last night for three carnitas tacos and let me say, they were DELICIOUS. The meat was tender and perfectly seasoned, the corn tortillas were soft and warm, the salsas were homemade and spicy! I was especially impressed because at 10:30pm, food sometimes suffers in quality - but not here! The quality was exactly what you would expect during the day. Service was fast and friendly. I'm looking forward to heading back to try some more complex dishes.

This place just opened and the location is random and easy to miss, but it's worth the stop. The tacos are delicious. I've tried fish, shrimp, and chicken and they all are clean but really tasty. They have a big menu of items I want to try. If the word gets out, I think this place could blow up. So get the word out and check it out!

We go here weekly and just love love it! I'm super picky about mexican food, but they do it right here! We always get the bean & cheese burrito (get some salsa verde to put on top) for a simple bite, and the al pastor tacos and carnitas tacos are excellent. Super friendly, fast, affordable, flavorful...making me hungry. Better fire up the car and get over there!

Not what I expected. Ordered a quesadilla, not great. If I would of known what I was ordering I would of done it myself at home. Boooooo!!!!!

This place has some of the best tacos in Portland. Straight UP. For me, it's tied with Santa Cruz in St. John's as my favourite. Next time you are feeling dumb enough to wait in line for hours at Por Qué No for so-so tacos with the rest of the White People, don't, and go here instead.

So I have only tried this place once but based on what I know, it's pretty good. I had the nachos and they were tasty and "authentic." I'm not sure if it's actually a family owned place or what, but it certainly seems like it, and I like that. The service is so friendly and genuine and I felt good about supporting this local business. The facility itself however was kind of dirty and even for what it is, I think they could do a little better job giving it a nicer and cleaner appearance.

This is a great little hole-in-the-wall. We had the fish tacos and they were light, fresh and really tasty. Tortillas were tender and flavorful. We also had a side of rice and beans. Again, excellent. Authentic food, very nice folks making and serving the food. Price was right. You can't go wrong here because everything e saw and smelled seemed mouthwatering.

Sope de camaron, tostado con ceviche, and add a Dos Equis amber!!! Muy delicioso!! Fresh, ripe tomatoes, limey goodness. Excellent habanero salsa and avocado salsa. Definitely coming back with friends.

I love this place. The food is fresh, authentic and delicious. I love Mexico and this was just like being there. It is right in my neighborhood so I was happily surprised to find it so good. I have had his burritos, tacos and will go back for the breakfast today. It is impeccably clean and a real jem. If you are looking for really good authentic Mexican food this is the place. Check him out. I'm a real foodie and he gets 5 stars from me. On Lombard and Mississippi, easy to miss so look for it and there is parking in the back. Carolyn W
