Easily the best Chinese in Oregon City. We've eaten New Hing's about 10 times and always thought it to be average at best. That was until we decided for the first time ever to actually go in and sit down! You see, we always ordered for take-out and ate it at home. Maybe it's just common sense but the food was much better right out of the kitchen as opposed to boxed up and eaten 20 minutes later. The place had a recent remodel and feels brand new. They have a large, well-stocked bar and a very large dining room, in addition to a banquet room in the back. The men's room was clean and had nice fixtures. We've tried many of their dishes and have always been pleased. Our favorite items are their potstickers and crab puffs. The food is worth 3 1/2 stars, the recent remodel and friendliness of the staff earned a 4th. We will continue to eat at New Hing's but will avoid the take-out.

This is by far my family's favorite Chinese restaurant. My son, who is 5, loves the szechuan beef so much he will eat it cold for breakfast. Everything we've had here is delicious and we have not once been disappointed.

The worst food I ever had. They ripped us off on a 4 person dinner that was enough for 2 people. They charged 43.00 for the food. Never go there!!!!!!

I have lived in Oregon City 10 years and driven by this place too many times to count being somewhat jaded by my other Oregon City Chinese food experiences. Based on my one experience today, it appears I was mistaken. I thoroughly enjoyed the General Tso's chicken. This is the measuring stick for Chinese food in my book, and not many measure up. It wasn't the best I ever had, but it was definitely good. It was a nice size portion that came with white steamed rice or pork fried rice. I also had the crab puffs which were also quite good. I don't know if they were as amazing as some of the other reviews, but definitely worth ordering if you are into that. I will definitely be returning to try more of the menu. It also helped that they just opened there newly renovated space in February, so everything is shiny and new. If it matters, they have a full bar, but I did not order any drinks.

In Oregon City your options are fairly slim when it comes to Chinese food. So I am giving New Hings a 4 based on what it is for the location. I used to love the Shanghai Noble house near John's Landing in the PDX area but they closed. That is the only place I have truly felt was authentic. New hings however fills the Chinese food desire. Portions are great, prices are great, and the quality is there too. I have been selecting different items to try and so far there hasn't been anything I disliked. I have dined in and taken my order to go. Either option is just fine. My food was still hot when I got home 15 minutes later. The service is as you would expect. Prompt and not too invasive. When I am craving americanized Chinese food, this is my #1 choice.

I'm pretty particular about my Chinese food and am pleased to find one that meets my particular needs. The food is fairly priced and tasted clean. Not too greasy and old greasy - if you know what I mean. My hubby and I shared two combination plates and still had left overs. 16.00 or so. I'm not a big fan of big icky portions of crap food.

Best Chinese food in the Oregon city area. The staff is also friendly and the restaurant/bar combo makes it a good place to go out for fun. Strongly recommend the crab puffs and pot stickers. Easily the best I've had.

this is as good as it gets for Chinese food in the area. I liked the lemon chicken , the hot and sour soup and the kung pao. The service is very attentive and the inside is really nicely done. You won't feel like you've been transported to China - this is clearly Chinese food for an american taste. Having said that, it's done well, with a fair price, a nice location and very good service.

New Hing's is new! If you haven't been to New Hing's for a while things are definitely new. The restaurant has recently remodeled. Previously it had a cut up floor plan, with a dive bar feel, really good food, and a really clean place, but a dive bar feeling, and needless to say dim lighting. Some miss that, my feeling is if you're going to be a dive bar...be one. The Trails End Saloon has that wrapped up in Oregon City, so why compete with that? The new New Hing's has an open, well lighted area. The restaurant is clean, well lighted and has a serious full bar, and HUGE menu. The remodel has opened up the space and given them a new kitchen. This is still a local business and the people are really accommodating. This restaurant will make you anything you want. I suggest you tell your waitress what you like and have them suggest a dish. We are pescetarian (we don't eat meat except fish) their menu is wonderful, as is their staff. We LOVE the S11 Kung Pao Scallops in hot (mild for us) sauce....Giant scallops, peanuts, veggies...Yummy, and lots of it. We have eaten in and ordered out, I believe the portions are similar (unlike some places). The food is hot and fresh. We have not had one dish we were not satisfied with. This is not a "fast food" restaurant, so if you want "American" (read Panda Express, or similar), you will not get what you usually get. New Hing's is like homemade American Chinese food; Less deep fried and more stir fried. In closing, if you haven't been to New Hing's in a while give them another try. Talk to your servers, say what you like, and ask them to suggest a dish (especially the older lady that works the bar, she's great). I ordered what I thought I wanted and then we were talking she realized I wanted something different and she ran back to the kitchen to change the order, no hard feelings.

After a decade of eating here, I can only say this family owned and operated is the BEST eats around. I have never had a bad meal here, fresh vegetables, tender meats and genuine down home people. I think there crab puffs & soups are great. Got a cold? " their hot and sour soup will fix that. Got the flu? there is nothing better than their won ton soup to xtop the aches... trust me it is old school asian....no fusion here thank god!

We are always looking for good Chinese food and we were happy we tried New Lings. Lovely restaurant, looks brand new but I understand that is because of a recent renovation. We shared the sweet and sour chicken, and foo yung. Tasted great with very good service also we will be back!

I loved New Hings! Our server, Julie, was friendly, attentive and so helpful. The other server also greeted us and topped off our waters when Julie was busy (love it when everyone works together). We ordered pork pot stickers and Mongolian Beef and everything was awesome. We can't wait to go back!

We have gone here for years for the occasional lunch special or dinner and always loved the food. There area LOT of menu options and a few favorite dishes I haven't found elsewhere like the beef and mushrooms with three kinds of mushrooms in a dark mushroom sauce. We have always found the food and egg flower soup fresh and very flavorful. We recently ordered delivery which is totally quick and awesome! There is a $25 minimum order and a $3 delivery charge, quite reasonable. The atmosphere inside if you dine in is your average tired and old hole in the wall type with a tiny, claustrophobic restroom. Service is very friendly. Parking can be difficult in busy times. We did notice that for the same amount of money spent we had a lot less food for more $ than at Mai Wah's takeout though, and it would seem they use a good amount of MSG because we were all dying of thirst for about two hours afterwards for the rest of the night. We guzzled water like crazy which was a bummer because it was right before going to bed.... Not sure if it's worth it.

Huge portions, alright quality. The owners aren't necessarily the friendliest, but it seems if you go in there more than once and the recognize you, they are quite friendly.

Food tasted good for the price. Not the best Asian food I have had but OC doesn't have lots of choices. How's it compare to Hunan Pearl you ask?... It just can't compete.

I picked up take out. We ordered the hot and sour soup, and Tso Chicken. The food had good flavor with good portion size ate a reasonable price but I like my food with a little spice. It definitely beats panda express.

New Hing's is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. It is perfect for those days when you are craving divey gutbomb Chinese food. They have decent lunch specials, and they will serve you egg flower or hot and sour soup (yum!) at the counter while you wait for your to go order. I am partial to the Schezuan chicken with crab puffs, although they never make it as spicy as I would like. The food is okay, and I am not nuts about their fried rice, but my hubby likes it so I save it for him. The place got a nice cosmetic makeover when it was used as a location for the movie Management, and you can find autographed pictures of Jennifer Aniston and Woody Harrelson on the wall behind the register.

Good food, large portions typical of Chinese food. Good service, the girls here are always nice. I've only eaten on the restaurant side and haven't been over to the bar side, so my review is really only for the sit down side of the place. They are comparatively priced. My favorite thing here is the crab puffs, they're the best I've ever had, that alone makes this place awesome and worth frequenting. Mmmmmm.... now I'm craving New Hings!

This is the best Chinese food in OC, as far as I'm concerned. We're regulars, and the staff is very casual with us. Very attentive, always there to fill up your water, or to give you refills of your drinks (full bar next door to all-ages restaurant). The portions are huge. My lady and I are kind of light eaters, so take that with a grain of salt. We can split one of the combinations or specials (which are plentiful) and STILL have leftovers for lunch the next day. The soups are very good. I was having Dental problems a few months back, and got the House Special soup so I could eat something that wasn't pudding or Jell-O. There were nice pieces of various seafood and meats, as well as a ton of Asian veggies. It boosted my morale significantly. The Hot/Sour and Egg Flower soup appetizers (that come with most meals) are very good as well. Very fresh, not from a can or concentrate. What everyone else has said is very true for the most part, and I would have to agree, so I won't echo their sentiments.

This place is kind of hard to find. The inside is very nice and clean. The wait staff are very nice. The food was less than desirable, the sweet and sour sauce tasted like a candy syrup. The chicken was overcooked and over breaded. The soup was good. And they're good for groups. Wouldn't recommend. 3 stars because its a respectable place, just the food could use some improvement.

It has been a very long time since we had visited New Hing's. We used to dance, drink and listen to live bands at The Happy Lounge which was part of New Hing's. The Happy Lunge is no more and the restaurant moved in to where the lounge was. The original restaurant they are remodeling. They still have a bar setup but no more stage and no more dance floor. It is more of a restaurant now since the remodeling was done in February. Parking is very limited to either on-street and parking meters until 5pm or a small parking lot with a dumpster for remodeling debris in it. The food was very good. My wife had a #9 which was a spicy dish and I had a Family Special I think it was called in the seafood section. We were impressed with the freshness and quality of the food. It took a little while longer than what we were used to for a Chinese Restaurant but it was worth the wait. Portion size was good and pricing was about average, maybe a buck or two higher. The tea though was not hot but more the higher end of warm and a bit weak. The atmosphere was nice and booths seem to be newer to go with the remodeling. The bar looked well stocked but again, they seem to be going more for the restaurant end instead of the drinking establishment that we knew it for. You can see the bar from the restaurant as not much is separating the two. We went mid-day, so neither side was busy and not sure how it is when a normal crowd of drinking and diners mix. They also have several TV's with different sport channels showing in the restaurant part but no volume. In the bar they were showing "Bones" from cable or satellite. Thought that was a bit bizarre and perhaps a bit backwards, but we came to eat and not watch the tv...LOL. Overall, we were quite satisfied with the food, portion and atmosphere. If you have not tried it recently, you may want to revisit.

My family loves this Chinese restaurant. We love how it's easy to call in and pick up. We do miss the delivery service. The Chinese here is great and the service is always great too. However, it's kind of a dark restaurant.... And isn't the nicest feel but we usually just pick up and eat at home.

We really love the food here! I always get the crab puffs, so good! And I love the cashier chicken. The staff is nice and I love the renovated space. Very clean and it looks new & modern. I love it!

I grew up in Oregon City and Hings was always my favorite Chinese place to eat until tonight. Tonight I ordered five combo meals from a menu that I printed off of Hings web page. Placed the order by phone and based on the web menu, the total should have been $38 dollars and some change. My husband picked the order up on his way home. It wasn't ready when he got there so I would assume it was still being prepared. We live approx. 5 minutes away. Our first disappointment was that Hings to go orders are not in Chinese food boxes anymore but instead they are packed in square foam containers, everything packed together and not nearly as much as you used to get. My second disappointment was that the food was cold, not cool but cold. To make matters worse, the total cost was $48 and some change. Hings gave us a to-go menu in which all prices had been increased anywhere from $1.75 to $2.00 per combo. This is very maddening when the web pages displays a menu with much lower prices... AND the food was cold. I called and spoke to someone who could care less about my concerns and in fact hung up on me when I expressed my disappointment. Fortunately for me, there are many other Chinese Restaurants located nearby.

We wanted Chinese food for Christmas this year. The place that almost everyone recommends wasn't open and I wasn't going to stop searching until I had Chinese food on Christmas, darn it!!! I'm so happy we found New Hings. The Chinese food here is the flavors that I'm used to and we feasted like kings. The service is fine. Nothing fancy but fine. The lady in charge is a little surly but what exactly do you expect in a Chinese restaurant? It's part of the ambiance. The actual restaurant is dingy and no frills. But who cares, the food is great. I do suggest calling ahead if you want to pick up and take out.

None of our lunch items were more than almost average chinese/american foods, There are several Chinese restaurants in the area that serve much better food. The egg roll I had was not made in house, probably frozen from a vendor. Will not return.

Some of the worst Chinese I have ever tasted. If you are really jonesing for Chinese, make it at home or drive to Portland. Convenience doesn't justify crappy food. Lemon chicken was tough. Pork in pork fried rice was overcooked. Spring rolls are supposed to be just veggies but there was some random meat inside. Waste of money.

  • E R.

We ordered take-out here on a whim. It was a great idea. We spent less than thirty dollars and had enough food to satisfy two people for almost three meals. The lemon chicken was awesome. Bonus- it actually came with more than enough sauce. The default rice is the pork fried rice instead of sticky white rice. This is nice if you have to share with someone who usually eats it all before you can get any. There was more than enough to share, which usually never happens. The egg rolls were excellent. Not at all greasy and there were whole shrimp in them. So good. I will definitely be eating here again. The only downside is that parking is terrible.

I like new Hings. In fact it's the place I get ALL of my take-out. The Ceschuan (sp? LOL) Dinner for 3 is perfect for 4 people. Love it. Plus, this is the ONLY chinese place that makes GOOD Hot Sour Soup! Why is it so hard people?? Can't everyone make a good hot sour and egg flour? It's the staple of every chinese restaurant. Why does it taste like dish water at most places??? Cheers to New Hings. They get it right.

When we showed up for dinner there were only a couple of tables of people, how ever we still had to wait for a waitress and I had to ask for tea. The food was iffy at best, unless you like very Americanized 1970's version of Chinese food. Panda Express would have been better. I had to ask a couple of times for hot mustard, and by the time we actually got it the food was cold. We won't be going back.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
