wow, this was unexpected. Some of the best, most tender ribs we have every had, and coleslaw that was delicately seasoned. The Guinness reduction for the ribs, which were served dry, was a delight. Great ambiance in the downstairs pub. After a long drive across Oregon, and a lousy lunch, this was just the comfort food we craved

Very impressed with the atmosphere, food, and drinks. We had a group of twelve without any complaints. I had a couple of bottled coronas along with the prime rib (Saturday/Sunday). The Air got stagnant, but when the door opened it felt great, only for a short time.

Found this place on yelp and a recommendation from the hotel. Great atmosphere and the service was extremely friendly and fast. Kids are welcome. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Great steak and atmosphere! Also very community oriented. Fun live music shows. Beautiful patio.

Excellent friendly service and great food. The owner came by and checked on us about half way through our meal. Not a trait that many restaurants have anymore. Ran into the owner again the 2nd night. Actually had a couple drinks in the outside bar area with him and his crew. Was a pleasure speaking with them. Will definitely stop by again when I'm in the Ontario area. Keep up the high standard of service. Thanks, Chris

We decided to split our drive to Portland in half which meant staying in Ontario overnight. We pulled up Yelp and found Mackey's and it did not disappoint. We ate in the dining area upstairs and there was someone playing acoustic guitar for the evening. The music added to the great atmosphere. Our server was awesome! There are quite a few things on the menu that peaked my interest, but when a guest at the table behind me had Fish and Chips brought out, I knew what I had to try. The food arrived promptly and was piping hot. The fries were delicious and cooked to perfection and the fish was amazing. I got 3 very large pieces of fish, a plate full of fries, and some coleslaw. I didn't eat much of the coleslaw, but I don't like it at all normally and this was actually something I ate a few bites of. Really, I was so full. I had planned on ordering dessert, but chose to eat my last piece of fish instead. Mackey's is definitely worth the stop whether you are in for the night, or just passing by. We plan on stopping again on our way home next weekend.

A properly poured Guinness!! So hard to find, so appreciated once found. Our server Gabi was fantastic. She listened, noted my allergies and chatted pleasantly. My hamburger was very nice and also appreciated because my whey allergy was acknowledged and respected. This chef didn't rely on butter and cheese for flavor -- the burger was interesting and tasty on its own accord. Had to dock them a star for a very dirty knife. Also my Brit had hoped for the house horseradish to be fresh with some heat but it was neither. Final positive note - an elderly gent at the next table raved enthusiastically over his corned beef and cabbage. He was sad he hadn't discovered this place sooner in life. Gabi made his day even better by helping him with the menu while being enthusiastic and respectful. So if you have elders with Irish roots, bring them by for a treat. Ask for Gabi. Drink a Guinness.

I decided to try Mackey's pub because of the raving reviews on yelp. We ordered takeout since it was 930 and they stop serving food at 10. We ordered the shepherds pie and the Guinness chicken with mash instead of rice. The shepherds pie was a canned beef stew covered in mashed potatoes and cheese. It was flavorless and gross. The Guinness chicken was dried out and leather like. Tasted microwaved. The sauce on top tasted like a mixture of Guinness and brown sugar and the mash had absolutely NO FLAVOR. All in all we would never come back. We ended up throwing it away and having sandwiches instead.

This is a great spot! The food is good, the service adequate, and the place is "hopping" on the weekends with live music from local bands. The building is nice and clean, the atmosphere is generally casual or business attire. I think the music is mainly on Friday nights. I live close enough that I can hear it from down the street on most weekends - usually rock. I think I might have also heard some Reggae or Country, on occasion. The only negative would be that one time it took them quite a while to get our food out to us - but everything was excellent once it did arrive!

Food was pretty good. The atmosphere was great, nice lighting and decorations. The waitress was outstanding, very knowledgeable and helped us go through the menu. The Jameson stuffed chicken breasts were amazing. Will be back soon.

My husband and I are new to the area and based on the reviews went to Mackey's. The service was excellent, but that was where it ended. We ordered the prime rib dinner. The prime rib was overcooked, flavorless and tough. The vegetables that were served with the meal had no flavor was so ever. I was disappointed that a salad or bread was not served with the meal for the price. One and only trip to this restaurant.

Good food, good beer and really friendly staff. The wait staff not only makes you feel at home, they other patrons pick up the same vibe which gives the place a real down home feel.
(4)Ryan H.
The environment and waitress were both very nice. I had the ribeye which was cooked perfectly, tasty, and a fair price (about $19). The only real negative was that there was ALOT of flies, even inside, which was quite bothersome.

Mackey Burger was pretty good. this is a local dive bar and grill, which is what we were looking for., very friendly service.

My husband and I stopped into Macky's ona road trip and we were delighted! The service was friendly and quick and they had the best onion rings my husband has ever had. I had the shrimp cocktail and it was delicious! Highly recommend for a casual , friendly environment and tasty food. I wish we had been hungry enough to try more dishes.

On our ever expanding search for mattresses, we wound up in Ontario. Cold, disappointed, and hungry. As we sat in the car mulling over our next course of action, I suggested lunch. This actually meant early dinner, because it was nearly four o'clock already. Yelp! led us to Mackey's. We saw quite a few college students leaving as we pulled into the parking lot, but we were surprised to find ourselves alone in the family dining area. Both my boyfriend and I really liked the Irish pub feel of the place. Great lighting and many small dining areas separated by woodwork, steps up or down, and a corridor down the middle. For the time of day we happened to show up, it was nice, but on a Friday or Saturday night - this place would be awesome. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She admitted she had only started working a couple days prior, but by our standards, she's doing just fine. I ordered the usual bacon cheeseburger and fries. The burger itself was very thick and cooked just the way I like it with "no pink", but still juicy and extremely well flavored. Not sure what they put in there, but it sure was tasty. The fries were good, but my sensitivity to salt kicked as they were pretty salty (my boyfriend loved them though). If I were so inclined, a couple beers would have numbed my taste buds just enough for those fries to be outstanding. I rarely drink more than one beer, however. Even though it was just barely dinner time, I did order a beer - a hoppy local Amber by Beer Valley. Very pleasant. My boyfriend was very pleased with his bangers and mash. I did not feel like sampling this dish, so I cannot comment personally. Our tab came to an unremarkable amount, about what you'd expect to pay for a decent dinner at your local family owned diner. There was a basement level we did not take a look at, but it could only add to the greatness that is Mackey's.

Good salads. Half is just the right size for lunch. Very friendly and efficient service.

Passing through town on a Sunday and stopped here for dinner. Place was rather quiet but our waitress, Melody, was very attentive without hovering! We both had sandwiches - one steak and the other a Gaelic dip which we shared. Both were tasty and hot. The fries were plank style that were very hot and tender. It certainly isn't fine dining but nice Irish pub fare with good beer. I have a foot injury that prevented me from going downstairs to the pub so can't comment on that area.

This resturant is worthy to be a Michelin Star Resturant. The top floor is wounderful for families or romantic dinners for two. Down stair in the bar are several different feels. Sports bar complete with bigscreen tvs and pool table. The other side cozy up on a couch next to the fireplace and play a video game on the bigscreen tv. THE FOOD IS OUT OF THIS WORLD AWSOME!

This place has a lot of potentia!! Stopped in on our way to Bend...very friendly..food just ok, but for an Irish Pub they need to learn to pour a glass of Guinness. It was flat. BTW don't charge if the beer is flat.

There are few instances that lead to ones dining experience being a complete and utter disappointment. But this restaurant was the exception; my wife and I love to try new places and we embraced the idea of Mackeys being just one more dining experience that lead to a great memory for the two of us. But that was not going to be the case with this sad attempt of what could otherwise be a great little eatery. Having seen that others had given Mackeys high marks we entered with above average expectations. The first red flag was the fact that, even though the restaurant is slated as a steakhouse, there were absolutely no signature steaks on the menu. In fact it is a chicken dish that was their actual flagship dish. Given this, my wife and I chose to sample the special that evening; a staple dish that does show just how careful a kitchen is in preparing a very iconic offering found at almost all restaurants around the country, chicken fried steak. This caused even more disappointment when our entrees arrived. The 'steaks' were simply breaded sandwich patties, so two were placed on our plates, no mashed potatoes were offered, French fries or baker. And absolutely no country gravy. Albeit, we were offered a small cup of beef gravy that was so inedible due to the salt content that we decided it was a lost cause. The waitress was more that apologetic which aided in the disastrous fair being completely removed from our tab. But that doesn't excuse the lack of care and utter disregard for creating a wonderful dining experience. We felt like we were in an episode of kitchen impossible before any improvements are implemented. Given the circumstances we cannot in good conscience consider this restaurant a viable destination in any near future scenario. I can only hope the owners good luck in some other endeavor that does not include food.

Was in Ontario for business and was trying to find a good place for dinner that wasn't 'ordinary'. I was lucky to find Mackey's on Yelp and after reading the reviews, I decided to give them a try. What a great place! I opted to sit in the pub area and was promptly greeted by the waitress who took my drink order. She came back a few seconds later and took my food order. I hardly had time to open my iPad when my food arrived. My entree was the Pork Chop Lollipop with a Jameson Glaze. i also opted for the wild rice and veggies with a side salad. All were delicious. This place seemed to be the favorite watering hole for many folks as the parking area and street parking was overflowing. If you are in Ontario and need a good meal, go to Mackey's. You will NOT be disappointed. The price point for the meal was just right. My meal with a large beer was under $25.

The best atmosphere, the all time best fish and chips and all the time prime rib!! If you haven't tried you, you need to!

Expensive, paper thin ribeye steak dinner with overcooked mashed potatoes and soggy coleslaw. Service? What service? Sorry folks, but I eat out a lot and know what good service and great food is. This place had neither... I give them a two star because at least the steak was tender. Perhaps it's because it was paper thin... (

Dark, dreary interior. My salmon meal was terrible. Salmon covered with pepper, veggies lukewarm, blah coleslaw and rice. Service was o.k. Wouldn't go there again.

This place is great. We had the beef and cabbage dinner and it was large enough to feed two of us. The pub downstairs was comfortable and a fun place to have a beer. The service we received was great. Definitely worth visiting.

This review is for the bar only... We found this restaurant on yelp as well as other websites while looking for a good place to have drinks. After entering the restaurant, we realize that this place has a lot of potential, but it didn't make a good first impression. First of all, the bartender Stacy was very rude. Didn't seem friendly towards any of the customers and seemed like she just wanted to get out of there. We also realized that the bar had a bug problem. While my boyfriend and I were sitting there, we both felt like we were getting bitten by bugs on our legs. After looking around we noticed that there were some mosquitoes and other flying insects flying around the bar. We then noticed what seemed to look like a bug zapper type of light hanging on the wall. This wasn't very reassuring, but made sense because there were a lot of bugs present. Overall, not a good experience.

Five stars for the finger steaks and horseradish sauce. Freaking great!!!

Stopped in while traveling to Boise. Best looking thing I found in the dining wasteland of Ontario Oregon. Ordered the Fish and Chips, wife ordered a salad and beer. The beer was a little less then cold. She asked for another one and again it was not as cold as it could be. Maybe the warm beer is an Irish thing. Service was less then steller, the waitress was very nice but I think she was the only one on duty. It took a long time just to get water. A very odd thing about this place was the finish on the table tops was sticky. Felt like dried spilled beer. The waitress explained it was the finish that was applied to the table and that they were in fact clean. When the food came they had gotten my wife's salad wrong. But the fish and chips were very solid. Service did not improve but because the quality of my dinner I am giving this place three stars. I would probably come back for the fish and chips but skip the beer and salad.

Stopped in for dinner. Food ok except the mushy and soggy veggies which were unedible. One waitress at the bar was not enough And service was very slow. Not great but since they have so little competition in Ontario , likely still the best in town.

badass and friendly bartenders, tasty drinks, tasty food and good music.
