Came in after a long drive from rockaway beach, desperate for a club sandwich, sometimes I crave strange things on vacation... Our server Mindy was fabulous, she recommended their homemade chips, they were wonderful btw, also had clam chowder in a bread bowl, delish!! Food and service could not have been any better!super glad we came in, definitely highly recommend!

Love it, fisherman a wife stew and the Mac and cheese were delicious and huge! Oyster shooters and crab cakes were awesome! Service was super friendly and atmosphere felt really nice and relaxed while still being super beach and little town. Only complaint was the price of the crab cakes but we should've asked before hand

Clean place. Awesome Service. Ordered fish of the day "red Snapper" and its delicious

We didn't eat there but we had a couple cocktails before a play (and at intermission) but everything on the menu looked delicious. The staff and the owner are what really makes this place great - super friendly and knowledgeable. Great location close to the beach. Maybe if we eat there I'll upgrade them to five stars but I heartily recommend stopping in.

Best clam chowder in town!! Amazing calamari & garlic bread. We will definitely return.
(5)Aja V.
Great cafe with an ocean view to watch the weather and waves. The caesar is what I go there for, top notch homemade dressing.

Not really impressed. Food was overpriced by a few dollars. Our waitress was nice enough, she was just very inattentive and mostly nowhere to be found. The owners were bussing tables and talking up the Portland ketchup to other patrons. It seemed that the two waitresses they had on staff simply wasn't enough and no effort to get the food to tabes quickly was made. I saw our food and another table's food sit at the counter under heat lamps for what felt like forever. Likely around 8-10 minutes. No utensils or water were brought to the table. I should have spoken to the owners but they appear quite proud of their establishment and I didn't feel like any complaint would have been taken seriously.

second visit was dismal- someones dream was our misfortune- our previous waitress was not available- the host apparently failed to show up along with the bartender- our new waitress- well she was very new (her first shift) and after advising us "that she just came on shift"-she further advised us that she "could not answer" our questions as "she didnt know") After repeatedly asking for our wine she advised us no bartender on duty-When we finally left she was even more frantic (hard to imagine) and actually asked us if we wanted to see the manager??!! Well the "manager" was our previous waitress (a lovely nice lady) who admitted this was the waitresses first shift and offered to serve us- So nice people- if you put a new waitress out perhaps she should be trained and just perhaps the host , should help her- sadly no one knew where he was- Amazing how different a place can be when their understaffed and no one seems to be paying attention- Its only a meal- its not that big a deal- and clearly - well gee thats very clear- we enjoyed the take out thai food thanks anyway!

This place wasn't bad so much as it was really disappointing. The fried shrimp were just pre-breaded frozen shrimp. There was too much batter on the fish and it was tough and cooked a bit too long. My daughter's tuna melt was quite good, but it would have been nice if they removed the cores from the tomato slices (which were not grilled as stated on the menu). That said, it was a pretty small sandwich for the price -- in general, much (all?) of the menu felt overpriced by $2-$4. Service was mediocre at best. The high points were the homemade potato chips, the tartar sauce, and a very friendly and attentive woman that I suspect is the owner. Given the multitude of excellent places to eat seafood in Newport, it's tough to recommend this one.

Great service, great food, great location. This place is nothing fancy, as is probably made clear by the word "cafe" in the restaurant's name. However, as cafe's go, this place deserves 5 stars. The service was super fast and friendly, the dining area and bathrooms were clean and inviting, and there is even a little bit of an ocean view. between myself and those in my party, we tried and loved the Turkey avocado melt, the crab melt, and the clam chowder. We only wish we had saved room for the desserts which looked amazing. We also wish we had stolen their giant ceramic fish coffee mugs which were super fun and kitschy. I will definetly come back next time I'm in town.

Growing up in a small coastal town I can be a pretty tough critic when it comes to fresh seafood and friendly hometown service... But this place is amazing!!!! Great food, great people, perfectly cooked seafood and an impressive Oregon craft beer selection. We had the fish of the day tacos, clam chowder and fresh wild salmon with pasta... Then for dessert we had a marion berry cobbler and a brownie sundae!
(5)Stephanie O.
Great food, awesome service! Would definitely go there again! I have an awful allergy to shellfish so I was pretty freaked out...but our waitress made me feel at ease. She personally made sure my food was prepared away from anything harmful.
(5)Jason B.
I guess our waitress was having a really bad day. It took a long time for the food to be served. I thought it was a little over priced for what it was. Was glad that it was locally grown beef though for my cheeseburger. Also waitress brought my credit card receipt back that was double my Bill. They did fix it, after I brought it to her attention.
(2)Braden H.
Had Shrimp & Crab Macaroni & Cheese Au Gratin: Oregon pink shrimp, Dungeness crab, roasted garlic, shallots & fresh herbs in a three cheese cream sauce with fresh macaroni pasta topped with pancko crumbs and baked Au gratin. Excellent food. Great service & atmosphere.
(5)Matt H.
This place was great. The food was good. The ducks were good. Their service was exceptional, the best service we have received in the Oregon coast
(5)Ryan B.
Good location, good atmosphere, good food and good service. A little pricey but will eat here again.

We wandered around Newport trying to find somewhere to eat that wasnt fast food or somewhere we've already been. Stumbled along this and thought lets give it a shot. We loved it!! The atmosphere was fun and the decor and wall paintings were also very fun and inviting. Everything was very clean and the staff was on top of it which was surprising due to the restaurant being fully packed. I ordered a chicken sandwhich and the chicken was very flavorful and juicy. My boyfriend got an avacado and turkey sandwich which he also loved. Their french fries were incredible and the clam chowder was creamy and tastey. Then at one point the owner came around and introduced himself and asked us about our day and how gorgeous the sunset was. I really appreciated his effort in getting to know patrons and it shows that he really cares about your experience. They were all extremely friendly and prompt. Highly recommend and we will be back!!
(5)Rebecca Y.
Average seafood. The waitstaff was super friendly, and the owner even came to the table to see if we had all we needed.
(4)Steve C.
New cafe close to hotels excellent location great views a much needed addition to the coast. Very good chowder. Typical cafe style burger. Excellent French fries. Mindy was Server and was top level available with water refills choice of local craft beers on draft as well as ciders. Worth stopping by again when in town. Suggested that. TV or 2 would make it a place to stop by and see a game and have a beer.
(4)Greg H.
I wandered in the evening they opened and quickly decided on the albacore tuna taco's. The service was very friendly and the owners came by, chatted and thanked me for coming in. My food came quickly and was scrumptious. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of their menu. Great location as it's across from the Performing Arts Center.

Husband, daughter, grand baby and I ended up here because of the proximity to a parking lot in Nye Beach. Yay! This was a happy occurrence. We'd come to the coast looking for sunshine and good fried oysters. We found both. Turns out Deep End had only been open 2 weeks. We were impressed. Unlike some places that have been around decades, this place has food that is up to date. That's not to say that it's pretentious; it's just gotten beyond iceberg lettuce & bread bowls. We all liked our meals: Oyster Po' boy, fish and chips, fried oysters w/fries and grilled ham and cheese for the little one. (He chowed down.) Wait staff did a good job keeping the baby happy. Other diners heard occasional happy baby sounds but no fussing. I'm the one who got the fried oysters. I am frequently disappointed by oysters as being too greasy or the batter being too thick. These suffered neither of these downfalls. They also came piping hot. IMO oysters have to be hot or they really go downhill so I was quite pleased. Also the oysters came with slaw. I have to say it was perfect for me. It has a bit of chili spice: not too much but enough that you notice. A nice kick. Lots on the menu we wanted to try, but each had to pick just one. And like I said we came to the coast for oysters. We can't wait to go back. Too bad it's over an hours drive from home. Might have to stay in Newport so we can hit their bar too.

Stopped in with a party of 5 today. Restaurant was not that busy but service was extremely slow. Did not stick around to try the food. Told the owner we were leaving due to slow service and he could not have cared less. Spent $80 dollars at competing restaurant down the street had great food and great service. Menu items looked good but service was so poor we never tried the food.
(1)Steve L.
Delicious food, good selection, fresh seafood, fast and friendly service, family friendly. What's not to like! They were extremely busy as it was a gorgeous day on the coast and a heatwave in the valley, but we didn't have to wait long for our food and drinks were refilled without hesitation. The fish was fresh and tasty, and I saw some pasta dishes I plan to order next time.
(5)Heather B.
We ate here on a Sunday evening. We shared the clam chowder and fish and chips. These were fine and served quickly. My main purpose for the review is to say thanks to one take charge waitress who really took care of us. The cafe seemed understaffed--most tables full, three servers, no bartender, the cook stacking food in the pass through. One waiter walked around filling waters while 8 of us (four different parties) waited in the foyer. But this waitress made a point to find us a table and seat us even though she had tons to do. So thanks.
(4)Renee B.
We ordered 3 fish & chips to go. The fries were cold. The fish was greasy & overlooked. They did not include the asked for katsup & ranch for the fries. No napkins. No forks for a really mushy slaw. $42 plus tip for a truly bad sad meal. This was on Sunday at 4:00pm March 29 It used to be a fairly decent place to eat.

The Deep End is in one of the best locations in Newport that for some reason has seen a lot of turnover. It was vacant for a long time before The Deep End opened. The beachy chic decor is adorable and the giant sea animals painted on the walls and seagulls hiding under the tables all create the perfect atmosphere for the location. We came for a somewhat late lunch so there weren't a lot of people. I had the fish with homemade potato chips and my sweetie got the fish tacos. The dishes looked good but we weren't really knocked out by either. His fish was cold and unfortunately heat is a big thing with him. It's hard to compete with seafood because there are so many really good fish places on the coast. The chips and the homemade salsa with the fish tacos were standouts but the food was just okay. The service and overall experience was fine but nothing to write home about.

Excellent new-ish cafe, just yards from the Big Blue. They have both street parking, and a good sized lot -- pull-in is just across from the Theater, and before the curve up to the lighthouse and park. The menu offered several different salads -- but all of them save the Caesar said they had cucumbers (which I am very allergic to.) I asked if I could get one of the salads without the dreaded cukes and they not only made my salad safe for me -- they added tomatoes! My favorite! The salad was crisp and amazingly fresh and wonderful -- featuring the little bay shrimp the whales love so much -- and a scoop of crab meat as well. Their house made blue cheese dressing was especially tasty. Husband wasn't too hungry, so he went for the clam chowder which he says is excellent. The food is high quality; the service was excellent; and the building is comfortable and spacious. Their menu is varied without being overly expansive -- and they have a cozy bar at the east end of their building, plus some covered outdoor seating as well. The only loss of a star was for the slightly over the top price point. I realize this is the Nye Beach area and the rent must be high -- but such a light lunch for nearly $30? Probably not a second time.

We ended up here because our first choice of restaurants was too busy. What good fortune! The Deep End is kind of a cafe-meets-pub kind of place. Very cute, near Nye beach, across from the Performing Arts Center and just up the road from hotel row on Elizabeth. My wife had the panko breaded rockfish and chips. I had to try the crab and shrimp mac & cheese. YUM-O! It tastes even better than it sounds. You really must try it.
(5)Daniel P.
Food & bar here is 4 stars but nothing really amazing. I gave 3 starts though because this place is very expensive, small portions, and the service is REALLY slow. So i would only recommend this place is you really like seafood, you have some time to kill, and you have some money to burn.
(3)D C.
Super cute decor, sparkling clean surroundings overlooking the beach. Great service and excellent food. Enjoyed the recommendation for the local IPA, family really enjoyed the seafood.
(4)Allison S.
Food was delicious and extremely unique. You could tell it was all made fresh, from scratch. The owner came out to say hello, very nice guy. Highly recommended
(5)Jennifer M.
Fantastic location, best crab I've ever had and the pricing was fair. The service was not timely especially considering that I was the only customer there at the time but they are friendly.
(4)Noelle S.
This place was very good! My family went here when we were on vacation in Newport, OR. One thing that appealed to us was that on the outside door there was a sign that said dogs were allowed on the patio area. My parent's had their lab with them so we knew this was the place to eat lunch at. The owner was incredibly nice and even took a picture of us with our dog, KC so he could post it on Facebook that they truly are "dog friendly". I had the albacore tuna sandwich and it was delicious, as was the clam chowder. If you are even in the Newport area, stop by! You will have a very good meal.
(5)Sam M.
Great fresh fish dishes and good drinks. One of my favorite places to eat in Newport.
(5)Kristen N.
Should have taken a picture of our food first.....oops so just look at the picture of the steamers on yelp. Because my lunch looked just like that! Plus a Bloody Mary. . The steamers were superb! There was no grit at all in the entire dish and their sour dough toast they server with this was perfect to enjoy the amazing broth! And then we did a seafood combo. So fried.. Fried. Fried. And Yummy! Fried rock fish, oysters and prawns and then fries. Well we cleared the plates! Their fried food was amazing! The fish was perfectly cooked! Crispy on the outside and tender in the middle and not overdone. Also our server (poor girl was the bartender, server and hostess) but she rocked it! She was really friendly and fast! So great job. The only negative I would say is they could use a little music. But that's fixable!
(5)Ellie W.
Read the reviews on Yelp and agree this place is awesome! Service, food, view and atmosphere. This is a great find and a definate must eat place when you are in Newport. Walking distance from Elizabeth St hotels
(5)Amanda S.
Delicious food, ambience, and local beer. The steamers were delicious! Even a great kids menu! Definitely going back next time we are in town. Thanks for a great dining experience.
(4)Cara S.
This place as a-ok - nothing fabulous but nothing terrible. The food was mediocre and my hamburger was a preformed patty. The restaurant was not busy and the service was incredibly slow. However, the homemade potato chips were the star of my plate and those chips would get five stars if all of them had been fully cooked. They have a great location and a good variety of things on their menu.
(3)Sarah V.
We went on a holiday so it too a little bit, but the bar is cute and costal. Drinks were good and both kinds of fish tacos were above average, great place for a coast dinner in the historic area

The Deep End Cafe is in a wonderful location. A short walk from Nye Beach. Delicious food, nice waitress, but a long wait to be served. My sister, friend and I came across this cafe, while wandering around the area for a place to eat on 7/12/14 on Saturday at about 5:30 pm. This was our second choice due to Chowder Bowl being extremely packed! The hostess was kind by allowing us to take a peek of the menu so we have an idea of the prices and what was being served. The cafe wasn't too busy; seen a couple of tables empty. We were sat immediately after making our choice. We were soon greeted by whom I believe to be part owner. He asked if we have been helped and how we found this place. I actually really appreciated that. Water was brought out and I asked for ginger ale, which took a while to be brought to the table. Took about 20 min for the waitress to come ask for our order. I ordered the the parmesan "catch of the day". About 5 minutes later waitress came back and asked what I ordered because she forgot. She implied I ordered the fish and chips, which was wrong, so I reminded her what I've ordered. About 20 minutes the food is brought out and my sister and friend received their food, I was brought the wrong order. So they had to put in the right order, which came out quickly! Our glasses were refilled throughout our dining. During this period of time we have seen 3 tables walked out because they weren't being served. The parmesan "catch of the day" was tasty and the fries were a great pair. I didn't like how chewy the mini baguette was. I had to pull hard to break off a piece. Doing so caused majority of the fish and toppings to slide out of the sandwich itself. Half way through the sandwich my jaw was sore. I boxed the remainder. My sister had the rainbow trout burger and my friend had the veggie burger. They both enjoyed the meal and didn't have to box it up. Overall wonderful food and nice staff. This cafe needs better communication and organization. The wait for food was ridiculously too long. We were here for almost 2 hours. I hope that I just went on the wrong day. I will give them another try whenever I go to visit Newport. I always give a restaurant a 2nd try to see the actual potential.
(2)Robert v.
decided to check this place out and it was ok. Wife had the trout burger - not worth repeating. I had the albacore tuna tacos and they were good. The best thing here are the maritime murals painted over every inch of wall.
(3)Emily G.
I love stopping in once and awhile for a quick beer and some really good clam chowder as a snack with such a great ocean view but their lunches and dinners are just as tasty if you want a big meal with reasonable prices and a pleasant atmosphere!
(4)Peter R.
Everything i tried was delicious: calamari appetizer, oyster shooters, chili bowl , salmon, salad, etc. And the "catch of the day" tacos were a flat out home run. Many locals have already made a habit of this new place and i will be joining them, again, whenever in Newport. Deep End Cafe sets a new standard for seafood restaurants in Newport, OR: Super location, original decor, good service, interesting menu, reasonable prices for the high quality of the food delivered..
(5)Sharon B.
I like food. A lot.I also like seafood. Actually, I married a commercial fishermen and although I genuinely love that man, the thought of having an endless amount of seafood sweetened the pot during his marriage proposal. But I digress... Naturally, I was bound to find The Deep End Cafe. This cute, casual, and fun place keeps me coming back for more! I've been there about a dozen times now and I keep bringing more company with me each time. I am crazy about their giant clam strips meal but I have tried their -out of this world- fish tacos and most recently, a seafood salad but I can't recall the actual name. I'm even known to come in just for the desserts... Yes, it's that good! I could go on and on about how awesome the decor is, or how fabulous Mindy (one of the waitresses) is, or how the owner's partner personally greets all of the guests after their meals, or how wonderful the food is... but I think you get my point. I just really like this place!
(5)Rebecca R.
Shrimp and crab melt was excellent. Shrimp tacos were spicy and tasty. Only get a bloody mary if you like lots of horseradish though.
(5)Kathryn K.
Seriously good! I stopped in for lunch knowing nothing coming in. I was treated to fish and chips with fresh fish and very fresh homemade coleslaw. Add the delicious craft beer, glorious view of the ocean, and the super friendly service and I'm hooked!
(5)Mike C.
Great restaurant, was very busy due to the Seafood and Wine Festival going on in town. I had the Avocado, Shrimp and Crab salad. Delicious. Everything in the salad was very fresh. Enjoyed a beautiful sunset as well. We'll be back!!
(4)Philip A.
This place is fantastic! Everything we had was delicious. I'm not much of a seafood person but my wife loves it so we decided to stop by. I tried the "catch of the day" fish and chips (first time I've ever had fish and chips) and I was very impressed. The appetizer clams were top notch, a little spicy but not over the top. We will definitely make it a point to eat here every time we are in Newport. Highly recommend you try it.
