My wife and I had the sirloin dinner. Everything was excellent and flavorful. My steak was well done, it was still juicy and tender. I've paid twice as much for steaks that were half as good. Waitstaff was friendly and efficient. Drinks were promptly refilled. Prices were reasonable. Szabos is rustic/casual. You will feel very comfortable here. We will be back...

Great food, but the service is absolutely unacceptable. We moved our regular family Sunday breakfast to another location because they are so slow and unattentive to their customers. It's fine if you just want to sit at the bar and get drunk but to sit down for dinner? I think not.

Decided to try Szabo's on a Saturday night. Got seated immediately. Waitress was nice. Took our order within 10 minutes of us sitting down. Portions were good. Price wasn't bad. My only complaint was with the fried cheese sticks. They came with a BBQ sauce. Thought was kinda weird. Other than that, the place wasn't that bad.

Yukk! We had steak amd eggs, the steak was frozen and dry. And pancake and eggs, the pancakes were dry and heavy and the sausage had no color. The home made potatoes were not cooked thoroughly and definetly not crispy. I felt let down. The waitress was nice.

Went to the coast for my boyfriends birthday. Saw the sign on the way back to the hotel and it got us hungry for steak/bbq. When we entered the establishment there was a sign saying please wait to be seated. Well we waited for 2-3 mintues and no one greeted us, although the woman behind the bar clearly saw us and so did the other waitress. We ended up seating ourselves, the table was sticky. We sat for close to 5 mintues and no one came to give us menus or welcome us. The waitstaff just continued chatting away with bar patrons. We had to get up and ask for the menus ourselves. My boyfriend ordered the 11 oz ribeye and I ordered the 7oz bbq chicken entree. His steak came out covered in charchol marks from the grill. Overly cooked one side and under cooked on the other. It tasted as if you had licked the bottom of a grill that hadn't been cleaned in over a year. My chicken was bone dry, so dry that the knive did not even cut into. I had to rip it apart with my hands and fork, when I took a bite I nearly choked on the dryness. I could barely even swallow. The mixed veggies that came with both meals were a complete random mix of things. It seems as if they had taken every spare veggie they had that was close to being bad and tossed it together. They were not consistent in thier cooking, as some were over cooked and complete mush and some were still hard/raw. The side dishes were luke warm at best. Our waitress did not come to check on us once. She continued to chat it up with a single bar patron. When I made obvious glances her way trying to signal that we needed drink refills she moved her body behind a woodem support beam so as to block us from her view. We had to get up and walk to the bar to ask for drink refills. When paying over $15+ per meal I expect to have good food, this food was terrible. How does a steak house screw up a steak and bbq chicken? This was the worst service I have ever received in any single establishment, and I tend to eat out at least 2 times per week. I would never return nor reccomend this place to anyone I know.

Had a nice dinner at Szabo's during our camping trip in Newport. Chicken wings for appetizer were tasty, with just the right amount of spice on the traditional wings and a very nice sauce on the BBQ version. Drinks were good, ordered one of their specialty drinks, though the name escapes me it included a raspberry liquer. Clam chowder was good, though not remarkably so. For dinner I had the swordfish - very nicely prepared and not overcooked. My dad had a ribeye that made him happy, he said it had nice flavor and was juicy. I don't recall what the hubby had, but he left happy and posted a picture on his Facebook page. The clientelle appeared to be mostly locals and a rather friendly group. Atmosphere was reminiscent of a smoke-free, family friendly pub with big screen TVs playing sports. I'd recommend the place.

Our resort recommended this place as their "featured restaurant of the week" so we gave it a shot. The name should be changed to Szabo's Tavern. Certainly has the ambiance of a biker bar. The night we ate here, it was slow (and a little early, perhaps) and we were seated in a booth across from the bar with a couple of big screens displaying sports. The waitstaff consisted of a couple of tattooed 30 or 40 something women dressed in black. They were friendly enough and the service was OK. The salads looked and tasted like they were fresh - out of a bag. My lady had King Crab and I went for the Prime Rib. Portions were nicely sized, but there just wasn't any flavor. My wife grabbed the salt shaker, held it up and said she needed to introduce Mr. Salt to the "chef". I'm not against eating a meal in a bar and have had some great bar food, but I was a little surprised from the name to find it a bar, and IMHO, this place doesn't rank well for bar food establishments either.

I hate that I don't like the food here, except for one salad, because the bar is great and the service is good. First time in I ordered a crab salad and it rocked. Next time was the Chicken Fried Steak which was partially burned outside with stringy meat inside. Then I had the Philly steak sandwich which was huge, but the meat was so wet/greasy that it made the bun too soggy to eat. This morning I ordered biscuits and gravy. I was served white bread and gravy. White bread! And the gravy tasted like I was eating raw flour. My companion tried it and said I should complain. I figured any cook that would substitute white bread for biscuits wouldn't be interested in my feedback. I'll have a beer and maybe an appetizer in the future, but will save my big dining dollars for a place that wants to be known for good food.

King crab legs were previously frozen. You could tell by the way they bent and would not crack. Veggies were half raw and half mushy. Cesar dressing tasted funny and chicken fried steak was eh. Prices made you expect better. Bottom line, prices didn't reflect the quality. Probably fine for a burger.

Run from this place. My husband and I are not from this area and decided to stop by here for dinner, It looked a little run down from the outside, but there were a lot of cars here, so I figured it was fine. It started with my soup. The clam chowder was only slightly warm. My concern is that soup must be heated to a certain temperature to avoid food poisoning, so it should be nice and hot. The real problem though was the prime rib that I ordered well done. It was raw and not even edible. Yes, it was not cooked and raw throughout the middle. I mentioned it to the waitress and she agreed. She took it and about five minutes later I got the same piece back. It appeared darker, but the middle was still raw. I tried to eat the edges, but it was gross to say the least. Although I was given a to go box, I threw it away at our hotel. I'm not one to write reviews, but seriously want to warn others about this place. The waitress was okay, but the food was horrible.

I hadn't been to Szabo's in over a year & there have been quite a few changes, eliminating all the things that made them a good restaurant... The service was awful..which could be a staff thing & i would give them another shot except for this: i go there for their bloody mary's that used to be amazing...now they are tiny & missing all ingredients that make them great & the price is more for such a skimpy, tiny drink. i go there for hashbrowns with cheese & some vegi's...they no longer make hashbrowns & their potatoes taste :( the prices were all jacked up so a meal was super expensive for food that tasted awful, service that sucked & a bloody mary that was tiny & skimpy

Pleasantly surprised! Tasty food, good drinks, nice ambiance, and kid friendly. Coloring page for the kids and actually Crayola crayons - not the cheap wax ones. Staff was super friendly helpful and happy. Great place to watch the game. We'll be back!

Finally tried Szabo's after driving pas it with a full parking lot several times. It was not was I was hoping for. I could see it being a fun bar to watch a game but it's not a place for a good meal. I got a cheeseburger that was soggy and had very little flavor. We also got the BBQ turkey sandwich which was just sliced lunch meat with some sauce on it. I won't be back unless it's just for the bar and watching sports.

Seems like every time we come to Newport to visit our long time friends we end up here at least once. While the place may look like a biker bar when you're speeding down 101 it's really a pretty decent place to grab a meal. When we first started coming here the portions were HUGE and it seems like they have reduced the portions over the years. Don't get me wrong you're not going to walk away hungry as the portions are still generous just more manageable. We've had breakfast and lunch but never seem to make dinner. I like the triple decker BLT but they sometimes put a little too much mayo on for my taste. Anymore the BLT is one of the few sandwiches that they make that I can finish. The others are just too big, tasty but too much food for someone that has reduce their caloric intake. Definitely one of Newport's best bets for breakfast or lunch!

Got a referral from our hotel. We had to wait for almost 15 minutes before we could even sit down. It took along time to even get a waitress too asked for our drink order. I order the chicken strips and my wife had the salmon, waited 20 minutes for the food. I got more batter then chicken, I don't know how you mess up chicken strips but they did it. My wife's fish was chopped up and in salsa. That wasn't on the menu, she couldn't even eat it. She sent it back and it was still chopped up. We got boxes and left, found the closest dumpster and through the boxes away. The place was packed so you would think the food and serves would be good, way wrong! Don't be fooled, stay away. This is a local spot and they don't like visitors.

We made reservations for Valentine's dinner. When we arrived the host was somewhat rude. We were offered a group of very small tables next to the bar, so small it was barely room for our plates. Also it was so tight every time a waitress went by she bumped the table. I understand that Valentines day dinner would be busy but we ended up with the newest, slowest waitress there. People that got there after us were getting orders taken before us. I also understand this can occasionally happen but a couple came in 20 minutes after us and got their salads before us. the waitress was very courteous but either the senior waitresses were cutting in front of her or she was clueless. This is too bad because the food was 5 star. We both had filet minion and it was perfect. I think the management should train better or help out when a waitress is struggling. also the drinks were weak. we had one each and did not buy another.

Arrived on a VERY busy Tuesday night but got seated right away. Restaurant is loud and crowded. We mulled over the menus for a bit and finally ordered the Halibut Fish & Chips and the Rib Eye special. Salads came first - sort of generic "iceberg lettuce in a bag" salads but they were fine. My wife really enjoyed her halibut fish and chips - it seemed fresh and well-seasoned. The rib eye was large and perfectly cooked, though perhaps not the best piece of meat I've ever had. Still, very good value for money and quite tasty. Service was fine - she came by several times to refill drinks and check on us.

My husband and I came to the beach for our anniversary. Szabo's was right down the road from where we're staying, and since we were really hungry when we got into town, we went. What a treat! We both ordered the halibut fish and chips. I've been doing an informal survey of fish and chips all over Oregon, and these were some of the best I've had! Plus, they give you a TON for $12.95, which is actually cheap for halibut. We were both impressed. This morning, we went for breakfast. I had oysters and eggs, which were also very good. Service is terrific, and the atmosphere nice. I would definitely recommend Szabo's.

For a great meal from steaks to seafood at great prices this is the place. With a very casual atmosphere and ambiance. While visiting Newport we are here several times. The Chowder is excellent, Rib Eye Steak was cooked to a perfection, Salmon was good and my wife enjoyed the Crab Legs. Make sure to ask for Mandy. She is a awesome server. And most important save room for dessert !!!

What happened to this place! We used to come here a lot and really liked it. The food is good, but the servers are really really grumpy. Went here for breakfast on a Sunday and the servers were so grumpy I didn't even want to stay! They acted like we were an inconvenience . Never have a problem with the food it's typical diner bar food, but the servers need to be taught some customer service ! When you depend on tips, you might want to treat your customers better !

We stopped for lunch. The chowder was really thick and had good flavor and was very warm which was nice on the foggy day. The Philly was hugh. Two of us shared it. The others had Nachos, French Dip and Popcorn Shrimp. Our waitress was very friendly and we got our food quickly. Several locals came in and where greeted by name. It's a bar and grill but lunch time (1:30) was quite.

Did not even get to see the menu! owner/waiter was very abrupt with my family visiting from out of state. would not place two tables together to accommodate to us.thats fine, but his mannerisms and that of the waitresses in ultra tiny skirts, with horrible hospitality, was what made us leave! I hope you are aware that the 8 of us were left feeling very unwanted by you, and your people! that can be detrimental to such a small business mr.szabo! especially since two of the people in our party are set to be professional athletes.. word spreads like wildfire

A couple of reviewers suggested this place looks like it was plucked out of the Patrick Swayze movie "Roadhouse," but I'd say it reminded me more of another movie of his, "To Wong Foo..." due to the pair of bearded gentlemen wearing dresses. Probably not the norm judging by the stares they were getting from the other patrons, and I'm not one to judge anyway. It was just a bit surprising to see in a place that is obviously a local fave. Service was good. Our tattooed waitress (hmm...this place actually feels like it was plucked out of Portland, come to think of it) forgot to bring us silverware and napkins, but once we mentioned that, she apologized profusely and was back in a flash. She was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. As for the food, definitely a mixed bag. We ordered the steamer clams, and these were by far the highlight of the meal. The broth (made with garlic, basil, butter, and wine) was rich, hearty and so good I wanted to slurp it out of the bowl straight up, but wisely resisted. One of the best steamer clams I've ever had, and I've had some really good ones. The clam chowder, which other Yelp reviewers give high marks to, failed to live up to expectations, though. I found it too thick and too nutmeg-y. My wife ordered the Seafood Pasta Fettuccini and found it to be underwhelming. A bit too rich and alfredo-like, and the seafood proportions were not correct. Lots of salmon (good!) but despite the menu's plural promises, only a single scallop. I ordered the Cajun Halibut Salad, and while I'm always leery about ordering a salad as a main course, was not disappointed with the portion size, as it was downright huge. Unfortunately, the halibut - which had a nice flavor and a subtle, slow burn that made my mouth tingle pleasantly - was overcooked and dry. 3 minutes less would have been perfect. In addition to lettuce, the salad contained black olives, onions, green peppers, tomatoes, cheese, and a hard-boiled egg. All came in neat little piles and that was fine, but I would have preferred it all to be tossed together. This was impossible to do myself with a filet of fish resting atop the whole thing. Overall it was not bad and definitely filled me up. It just would have been much better had the fish been a little more tender and juicy. I don't know that I'd come back. Everything was fine, but when you're on the Oregon coast and there are plenty of other dining options nearby, why settle for "fine" when you can have "great"?

I'll keep this brief. The Prawn Cocktail that contained shrimp, had this weird warm/cold feeling that belies a rushed hot water de-thaw. The Fried Halibut and Chips? Texture of dry chicken tenders in the form of fish. Actually I've had more tender chicken than this. And the tartar sauce? It has dill or chive in it. Whut. Lastly the Bacon Cheeseburger was fine. Hard to mess up a burger. Especially with bacon over top. I'm not saying it was good, I'm just saying it wasn't bad. Service was definitely fine, they were attentive and polite, even if it took two times for the waitress to remember our glasses of water, despite only having two other tables in the entire restaurant to tend to. My thoughts: don't call yourself a steak and seafood place on a coast highway and pull the bait and switch and be a local townie sports bar. Also, spaghetti dinner special? Yep. Meh.

The place was lit up like a Christmas tree, but as soon as we pulled up, a waitress came outside to say they were closed. With 12 cars in the parking lot? I can only assume they were having a swinger orgy and didn't like the looks of our soccer van. 1 star for all signs pointing to being open but told otherwise. We were tired hungry.

18oz Ribeye steak dinner for $11.95, safe to say I'm a fan of this place! Even though they had me with the incredibly large and inexpensive steak dinner, they kept me with the great service and cold beer. This place seems like the Newport favorite for the locals, but the parking lot full of cars is always a tell tale sign of good food, so I had to stop. The parking lot and front of the restaurant reminds me of the movie Roadhouse with Pat Swayze, but you wont find any brawls here. Just great food, beer and service at a great price. There is plenty of booth seating and traditional dining tables, as well as a nice inviting bar for 12-15 people or so. They have outdoor seating as well for those rare sunny days on the coast;) Plan to get here early around the popular dining times or prepare to wait a few minutes, this place brings 'em in. Great place for anyone, I highly recommend it!

Was reccomended by a local. My sister! Went with another couple expecting a delicious steak. Two of us ordered the oven roasted prime rib. Ordered both medium rare. My friends was cooked in the microwave! Mine was cooked flat on a flat grill top! My wife and our friend couldn't eat the rice pilaf. Looked like it was instant hamburger helper style. My baked potato was hard and dry. Horrible food. Waitress isn't that stupid to actually serve this to people? This place needs a new ownership.

The waitress who greeted us seemed amazing, but she immediately asked if the other waitress "had us," and she did, as soon as she was done texting. Then she unpolitely sat us at our table without even a "hows your day?" or "hello". The food was edible, the chowder was pretty good, definently not homemade. We probably will not be back.

First off I want to say that any Red Robin menu type( industrial style restaurant) should never be called Steak & Seafood House`. When you are a sports bar and you are taking reservations I am expecting you to be hitting it from all sides in the back kitchen. However that was not the case on our visit to this total disappointment of a $47.00 dollar meal that wasn't worth 20 bucks. When you walk in the door you are a little surprised because it is really like the local sports bar and have menu's like the long Red Robin menus. Decor is tacky lounge and sports BS all over. Once seated our waitress who actually looked like she hadn't seen a wink of sleep the night before was polite gave us the giant menus asked if we wanted something to drink, not let me get you water and I will be right back. We requested water and then water was on the table lickety split and she actually thought we knew what we wanted n 2.2 seconds. We ordered the Tuesday special, 16 ounce rib-eye steak, halibut salad and my daughter had calamari. Now the redeeming part of this meal was the clam chowder that my daughter and I partook of before the meal. If you are starving and no place is open get only the clam chowder here!~
Great beer prices. Great onion rings. Good chowder. Friendly service. The entrees were meh. I'd come back to watch a game on tv, enjoy some beers and have some appetizers. I doubt I'd be back for dinner. Fair warning - not all items on the menu are available year round. Oysters are seasonal. Being used to a region where you could eat oysters without too much concern year round, I didn't think about this. I chose the location because they advertised local oysters. Lesson learned. I should have known better but just a warning if you're browsing through and see oysters. They are only available in winter. I do appreciate that the oysters will be fresh in a few months.

Firstly, any business you get forewarned about is off to a bad start. I decided to remain impartial and give it a chance though. When I arrived just as I was warned the staff was oblivious to my arrival. Once I had been seated which in itself was a rushed, unsmiling experience our waitress disappeared. This would come to highlight the whole dinner! We waited an hour for our food and not once was revisited to be checked up on. That alone is pretty bad. Our ticket was thrown away with no apology only a self-deprecating snarky comment. Then once our food arrived it was at best sub par and no offer of compensation for the mistakes or wait was even offered. I'm really forgiving of servers but this is what this place is popularly known for! No thanks.

WOW! Talk about disappointment. Ordered the 8oz. prime rib med. rare and when I got it, it was sliced in two very, very thin pieces and sure was not med. rare. It was like deli sliced for a French dip sandwich. When I ask about it was told some stupid answer about hum! never noticed. Do not waste your time or your money by going here. It stinks. Called the owner when we got home from our trip a week later and told him about it. He was as about as rude as anyone could be and could have cared less. He honestly was a jerk about it. Would not waste my time here ever again....

Came here for dinner during the Seafood and Wine festival. I think Steakhouse is a little misleading. More like a bar that serves steak. The food was good not great. Great place to watch a game! We came here for the Fiesta Bowl 2013 and after searching for a place to watch Bowl games nearly every year (we vacation in Newport for the holiday, and have a house with no TV), I think we've finally found a spot to go back to. Food was not much to get excited about, but the beer selection is great, and we had excellent service. Seated right in front of a TV, too. What else is there?

We came here after an afternoon of wine tasting at the seafood and wine festival expecting a nice meal and we were disappointed across the board the chicken fried steak was nothing to write home about and neither was anything else. To have my potato come with butter packets and a sour cream packet...this is NOT what I was expecting and $8 for 4 small scallops...what???

Stopped by here while riding north on 101. Pleasant place nice wait staff. Signed as kid friendly. Decent prices. Clean restroom. Lots of TV's to watch. Gravel down slope parking right in front. Went here with an account today for lunch at his suggestion and was VERY pleased. The Arnold Palmer tasted really good and I had the Oysters and Chips. The Oysters were, in my opinion, perhaps the best I have ever had in a restaurant and the Chips were all ate, something I don't normally do. Place was clean and service was first class. I would have no problem going back and actually look forward to it someday.

Decent pub food and drinks. Good place to watch a sports game.

Food was not tasty, was not safe to eat. I got food poisoning on my vacation. Spent the night sick. I will never eat there again. Ruined my vacation!

And most important save room for dessert !!!

got here around 4:50 ordered at 4:55. got food at 5:30. had to send my steak back because it was over cooked. 2 stars for friendliness -3 stars slow service mediocre food overcooked steak AND prime rib

We chose Szabos because it was open late. It is a sports bar and has that feel to it. The tables were cleared but not clean one wipe of the napkin and it was full of sticky dirt. The wait staff was very friendly. We ordered the Tuesday night special and the captains platter seafood (sautéed). We were pleasantly surprised at how amazing the food was. The steak was perfectly mid rare as ordered and the seafood was amazing.

Excellent food and great service!!! At all times of the day and night!!! Mark will make ya whatever you want if he has it in stock! :) love it here!

No thanks.

Throughly impressed with this steak house along the coast. Their 11 Oz sirloin was cooked exactly how I ordered it and their menu price is reasonable. High hive, hive stars and definitely recommend if you happen to be cruising along the Oregon coast!

Drove by for a lot, finally decided to drive in and try, very good food, customer service was awesome. A little expensive for my taste but over all a great experience. Great owner as well.

We sat at the bar and received adequate service. Lots of TVs to watch. Our waitress was particularly interested in the dirt bike race that was on...
(3)Dawn C.
(3)Kiersten A.
(1)L. T.
Got a full order of biscuits and gravy to go. Not crazy about the rest of his fare, which is quite overpriced, but the guy can make good biscuits and gravy.
(4)Daniel G.
We ate here I Had Philly sand which and wife had prime rib. Most awesome place, portions were huge and food was amazing
(5)Doug J.
Stopped by here while riding north on 101. Pleasant place nice wait staff. Signed as kid friendly. Decent prices. Clean restroom. Lots of TV's to watch. Gravel down slope parking right in front. A bit of a challenge on 2 wheels but doable. We had chowder, a chef salad and salmon and chips all very good.
(4)Jonathan D.
First time here. Came here to watch the USA vs Belgiun game. Lots of TVs here and a great place to sit back and enjoy yourself. Kid friendly as well. They have very good wings!
(4)Christy F.
Went for breakfast, Food was ok, waitress was super nice, restaurant is clean and quaint. Husband enjoyed his chicken fried steak with gravy.
(3)Bill D.
