Stumbled upon this place. A bakery with some sammy options. Few tables. Friendly folks. Ordered a BLT. Sat outside on their perch with a big cup of tea (me) and blueberry lemonade (the hubs). As it turns out their BLT is thick, sweet bacon sandwiched with ooozie goozie BRIE and avocado on crunchy, soft, light french bread. Quite the delightful surprise....it was terrific.

I happened to be vacationing a couple days along the coast and was looking for pizza. I didn't need a pizza chain and wanted something a little more local grown. I used the often trusty Yelp app and this place pops up in Nye beach. Has decent reviews and it's close to where I am. Yelp guides me and upon arriving it looks like it might be a quaint little pizza shop with handmade freshness. The menu is a bit all over the map and a customer isn't quite sure where to look on the wall or above the counter or...? So I ask the nice woman behind the counter and she's pretty helpful. We end up getting a slice each and bottled sodas. The seating is extremely limited and if your party is more than 2 you can almost forget about eating in. I was there around noon on a dreary Monday. The place was full of neckbearded hipsters drinking coffee and reading books. So basically a guy comes in, like the losers that hang in Starbucks all day, orders a mocha latte with soy milk of some BS like that and reads a book for 6 hours. Nothing against the hippster crowd but get off your latte drinkin ass and get a job. You're cloggin up the flow of actual business and paying customers. While there, I actually saw 3 different couples go in and walk out because the coffee sloths were chillin and there was no place to sit. NOTE: Owner(s) the coffee crowd is making higher paying customers walk out the door. I don't know how you can't see it? On to the pizza slices. When it arrived at my freezing cold outdoor table it was decent. Nice flavor but while eating it, it became hard, stiff, and crunchy. The bottled coke was good though. Since were were freezing our butts off we made haste, ate, and scrammed. Not the worst hole in the wall and I have a deep appreciation for small business start ups that want to offer delicious fare. But you have to focus on a few things first; Quality & Taste, Specializing (dump the coffee crowd) in pizza, sandwiches, and breads (be known for that first), Service, and spotless cleanliness.

Stopped in in the evening for dinner on the run. Should have scoured the yelp page more before just showing up. No sandwiches after 4 and the one cold and rubbery looking pizza wasn't cutting it for us. Decided to get coffee since the place looks like a coffee shop first, sandwich place sometimes and pizza as an after thought. Ordered a 12 oz latte for 350 got .50 back and tipped. Oops. Despite being the only ones in the place I guess the drink order was never turned in as the blond making the drinks appeared to be making a drink but eventually she asked the cashier "what are they waiting for" to which, I responded, a latte. Since my ride was in a hurry and this was not a planned stopped I just asked for my cash back to which I received 3.50. Hope you keep the change and make some as well.

When I'm in Newport and feeling like a cup of coffee and a pastry or cookie, if the Panini Bakery is closed I get very sad. The food is wholesome, and I can't leave without a small loaf of their amazing bread.

Adorable little coffee shop with the most delectable assortment of sweet and savory baked goods! We come to Nye Beach every other year, but I'd come here all the time if it was in Eugene! They have the most delicious baked goods! Their spinach parmesan roll was so good, could've used more salt, but it was very good! their danish's are amazing, so flaky and buttery with the sweetness of their apricot filling making you forget everything else that's going on. They even have pizza in the morning in case you're like me, and feel you must indulge in pizza first thing in the morning. Their coffee is quite nice, and I especially enjoy their americano's! Located right by all the cute little shops in Nye Beach, I'd suggest arming yourself with an americano, a pastry and hit the shops!

Excellent coffee. Had an Americano and breve. Both were awesome. They make granola in house that is so yummy. Small and quaint with a European feel. Worth the drive off the beaten path.

I have to first off say that the girl working offered the friendliest service I have ever seen anywhere. Beyond that the food was amazing. They offer a small number if sandwiches (6 I believe), pizza, breads & pastries. They also have coffee, tea, juice & smoothies We both got the eggplant sandwich which was huge! I only are half because to me it was a full size sandwich. You are able to order 1/2 sizes but I didn't know how big it would be. We also tried tomato soup which was very good too. Seating is lunettes to 3 two person tables & a bar with a few chairs. This place is a gem. I'd definitely frequent often if I lived in the area.

Where did the awesome cinnamon rolls go??? This is a standard stop for a lot of our friends, and we were excited to have the yummy rolls. But no longer. Still a great spot for some bread loaves, but not certain I would make the trek just for the remaining pastries.

The people that work there are super nice ad helpful! The coffee/tea was really good.

Excellent breads, pastries and other baked goods. Panini was a 'must stop', whenever we visited or passed through Newport. I loved the funky vibe of this small bakery (and loved shopping at Jovi, next door). But Panini, your customer service is awful: no one greets you when you walk in the shop, you're ignored as you step to the counter to place an order - but don't take it personally, as every customer and potential customer is equally ignored. Two parties walked out as we were waiting. Please do some modest customer service training, Panini. We love your product - but we can't take the bad service!

Wait is painfully long, one person Taking orders and making coffee drinks. No house coffee ready. We were just getting pastries and stood in line for over 15 minutes, when we got there, there was only 3 people ahead of us. They need more help, don't go unless you want to wait.......

A delicious break from typical franchise fare. I was wandering Nye Beach looking for something that would offer a bit of local flavor for lunch when I stumbled across the Panini Bakery. First I looked at the menu across the street at the, uh, unique establishment on the corner (I'm sure it's fine food over there, but I didn't want any hemp milk with my late lunch, if you know what I mean...) so I was relieved to find this little bakery offering food I actually recognized and felt like eating. The pizza is $5 a slice, which seems a bit steep. But, one slice makes a meal and it is quite tasty. I lunched for under $10, all-in. I had the sausage/pesto. Paulina the Friendly Panini Bakery Pizza Girl crafted a delicious and refreshing strawberry, banana, and OJ smoothie for me which she served up topped with whipped cream in a mason jar. Paulina customized orders for several customers while I was there, removing onions from slices before heating, offering recommendations, wrapping to-go orders in foil, and generally treating people with kindness and respect. I get the impression this place has a reputation for their pastries as there was a steady stream of people coming in looking for treats on the nearly empty shelves. "If you're in town tomorrow be sure to get in early for the pastries," offered Paulina, "On busy days we run out." The place is small with limited seating inside and a few small tables out in entryway. There's flour dust on the walls and fixtures and a yellowed piece of tape over a couple of light switches with the words "keep on" or some such thing scrawled on it in marker. There are several framed photographs on the wall of local scenes, each labeled with "#NoFilter" and ranging in price from around $50 to $100 each. I liked the photos but I would have probably tweaked the contrast a bit on most of them in Lightroom... making them ineligible for the #NoFilter label in the process, I suppose... :) All in all, Panini Bakery offers a great atmosphere for a privately owned restaurant in a small beach-front community. I'll definitely go back next time I'm at Nye Beach. Maybe I'll even get there early enough for pastries and breakfast fare!

I visit Newport a few times a year and thought there are many things I like in this town, the only two things I must do every time I'm here is go to the beach and eat at panini's. It is simply my favorite bakery in Oregon. The service is always good, even when they're slammed, and they often are. Every time I try something new I'm impressed. Truly lovely food and lovely people.

Great pizza and great staff. Get a pizza made to go. The pizza is way better fresh but just as good either way. Plan on getting some desserts or treats. Great place to get a loaf of bread for bread bowls! Joe is the man in back killing it. Highly recommended Newport place to go.

My husband I discovered this little gem a few years back on our anniversary weekend, we strolled downtown for some coffee and THANK GOD we walked in here! Sometimes I think we go back to Newport just for this cafe! To start, the mochas are amazing. If you're in a hurry, go to Starbucks! These mochas are made with love - and that takes a minute or two! The pastries are different every time but everyone is better than the last! This past trip we even brought home a loaf of their sourdough - umm WOW...

Clueless operation here. Ordered a simple bowl of soup for lunch and waited half hour and still no soup. Place wasn't busy either. Very disappointing. Got my money back and took my business elsewhere.

Love this place. It is rad. The baristas make me heart patterns in my coffee which is as close to coffee making love with my face as I'm comfortable with. The sourdough panini with sweet cream cheese is to kill for and the folks that are regulars make you feel like a regular too. Forget the lighthouse, Art Deco bridge, and smelly harbors. THIS is my favorite part of Newport!!!

I've only had one experience here but it was pretty good; we ordered some pizzas to pick up and arrived a little early for them. The staff was really friendly even though we were obviously keeping them there late with our order, they didn't seem to mind. The pizzas were big and tasty, fresh toppings and nice crust. I also had the Irish soda bread when I was at Nana's Irish Pub next door and it is literally the best soda bread I've ever had! I'll definitely be coming back to try more.

Great pizza by the slice -- That should be enough to recommend any place -- but add the excellent casual atmosphere, the friendly staff, and the variety of baked goods, breakfast pastries, lunch pastries -- plus a chalkboard full of coffee drinks, teas and chai, and assorted sodas and variety drinks -- and this is one of those working bakeries that will sell you a terrific meal or snack. Or maybe it's a cafe that bakes non-stop. My pizza was on a thin, perfectly crispy crust, loaded with salami, feta, kalamata olives, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, and a sweet/tangy sauce (and all the expected cheeses.) The single piece was easily twice the size of those all-crust personal-sized pizzas most places serve for comparable price -- and far superior ingredients (and crust.) My iced chai was not what I expected -- maybe too heavy on the cardamom -- and I think I tasted a background citrus -- like maybe a lemon grass (which would be unusual) -- at any rate, it was not what I was expecting. I'll go with coffee next time.... Seating inside and on the porch -- easy to get to in the Nye Beach area. Yeah!

I want to love love love Panini but they make it so hard. Until recently, they had irregular hours and I stopped here three times with my boyfriend to find it closed. FINALLY they changed their hours to 7-7 everyday. I dragged my boyfriend out here at noon on a Tuesday, raving about what I'd had last time only to find it CLOSED. There was a sign on the door that said something like "closed for staff meeting, see you next time." What? Seriously? No "come back at 1pm" or something? Couldn't have the staff meeting off hours? What the hell? A few days before, I'd come in with my mom because I had a gift certificate. We ordered a spinach and cheese scone, a ham and cheese croissant and a cinnamon roll, plus two lattes. The coffee is incredible. Strong, hot, delicious. The pastries were to die for. Good god, the croissant with a little roll of ham and cheese baked inside was the best I've ever eaten. It was so crispy and chewy and flaky and not too salty -- like they often are. The scone, the roll, also fabulous! They know how to do dough here. I love the servers, I love the sweet atmosphere of the place but we couldn't sit! There were three people writing on their computers at the counter, a knitting club taking up all the seats inside and a book club taking up the outside. Now, to be a fair, a guy offered us his chair and we dragged one in from outside and got to sit while we ate and he talked to us. He was sweet but it wasn't the experience we went there for. I love the place, too, but I think taking up all the seats in a TINY bakery like this is rude.

The pastries here are so delicious, and the coffee was one of the best that I've had. My only complaint was for the girl that took my order. I know they were busy, but when a customer asks you questions about your products it is so rude to to act like a simple question is just the worst thing possible at that time. I don't know if the younger girl that was making our coffee noticed how rude she was acting or if she was just genuinely friendly but she made our coffee just the way we wanted it and was so kind to us. Besides that I recommend this place! Oh and their Lavender shortbread pastries were soo good!

  • Rico R.

My pepperoni pizza was ok, the wife's mushrooms and onion pizza tasted like a cheap Wal-Mart pizza. Both pizzas were cold, we never got or drinks, we never got the coffee we ordered. Prices are outrageous. Sadly, this place is held on high regard by the locals, hence the high rating, but for $20 a pizza, or should be outstanding, not just ok

If you want berries in your double berry muffin, or strawberries in your strawberry scone look elsewhere. The croissants are bready and taste of yeast. The espresso is burnt, and the egg skillet takes 20 min. The atmosphere left us sweaty and tone deaf due to the ineffectual fan screaming in the corner of the dirty wall. Bottom line....not worth a 4 star average people!

    (1)
  • Ido W.

The bottom line: unique pastries, all fresh and excellent. The pros: the banana nut bread was definitely the best we ever had. We were pleasantly surprised by the savory scone and will bit sorry that we didn't have one of the other unique scones. The cons: the apricot danish, although good, was not excellent. They had listings on their blackboard that they didn't actually have. There were not enough savory options.

I had a horrible experience eating at the panin bakery in Nye beach Newport Oregon Sunday evening . My father and uncle both live in Newport so I go over there often. But I won't be going back to panini again. I walked in to order a slice of Pizza with my wife and my uncle and a blond woman with short hair was working. We each picked out a slice of pizza which were going to be $5.00 each. I said to my wife and uncle, hey we can get a whole pizza for $18.00 rather then a half for $15.00. They agreed it was a better idea. I noticed they had a lot, 4 whole pizzas in the slice section already made. Because it was 630pm and they were closing at 7pm I asked the blond lady if we could just get one of the whole pizzas that were already cooked and I might as well had just kicked her puppy or something? She barked back at me MY PRICES ARE MY PRICES AND ALL THOSE SLICES IN THE CASE ARE 5 EACH.!!!! I said OK , then can we order a whole pizza , she said fine that will take 30 min. I said that's fine. We waited for our pizza and as we waited she proceeded to talk to another blond lady who had walked in after us in German about us ordering our pizza too late as she gave free slices to her friend. Then our pizza was done and she brought it over to us at the table we were sitting at and said OK now you guys need to skidaddle, I'm closing up here. I haven't had that bad of customer service ever. And we get home to find out that the pizza wasn't even cooked all the way and the pizza was like chewing thick gum. I will never give that place my $ again and I will tell everyone I know to not go there. Thank you horrible blond German girl for a horrible experience on my recent vacation.

First, I want to get out of the way the reason this place has more than one star. The first night we went there we had shortbread and hot chocolate, and it was fairly good. I'm giving them a star purely on that. The next time we went, however, we found ourselves grossly disappointed. Quite a few reviews have mentioned that their pizza is quite good, so for lunch on our last day we decided to try it. We arrived at around noon where there were only two other customers in the place with us, and ordered a single cheese pizza. They said the wait would be about forty minutes. This seemed absurd on its face, but thinking back on the good reviews and deciding we had nothing better to do, we shrugged and decided to wait. An hour later, the pizza was still not forthcoming and despite our best efforts we could not get an update on when it would be done, besides a stern employee telling us it would be done "when it is ready." Then the pizza arrived, and although it was on the reasonable side price wise, I would rather have gotten a Little Caesar's $5 than this. It seems that for that 20 min differential, our pizza had simply been sitting on their back counter in the box, as it was lukewarm at best, and cold at worst. The cheese on top, the only ingredient other than sauce, was burnt, while the crust was so doughy me and my wife had difficulty eating it at all. Our jaws were sore by the end, and none of the employees seemed to care that it had taken them an hour to cook such terrible food, nor were they apologetic about the extra wait time. This was by far the lowlight of our trip to Newport.

A cute little bakery in the heart of Nye Beach with the worst service I've ever experienced. When I walked in there was one person waiting, and it took 45 minutes and counting to get a turkey sandwich. (Which I never got, because I asked for my money back.) I counted 6 people working in the open kitchen, none of whom were interested in prioritizing customers' orders. "Hmm, should I make a new sign for the peanut butter cookies in my extra beautiful calligraphic handwriting or make this customer's turkey sandwich?" "I know dinner is 5 hours away, but I'm going to chop the cilantro instead of helping with the orders in front of me." After 45 minutes I asked for a refund, which took the same amount of time to figure out (look at order slip, subtract can of Diet Coke, do math in head, open register) as it would have to make my turkey sandwich. And the counter chick, with her beautiful sign, could not have cared less.

The food was good, the music was very loud. The girl taking our order was unable to hear us over the loud music. They did not know if seafood was in the gumbo. It is a cash or check establishment only.

This is my favorite coffee shop in Newport. Their bread makes me so happy that I feel giddy about it days before we head to Nye Beach. Their pizza is also absolutely divine, and the coffee is nice and strong. They don't take credit/debit cards which is lame given that debit cards are pretty much the main source of currency now. In fact, that's usually a deal breaker for me because I never have cash, but this place is so fantastic that it's worth it to make the small effort to have cash.

    (4)
  • Matt H.

Pizza is fantastic. Cookies are great. Pumpkin cheesecake, though different than I expected, was very good. Presentation is not the best but the people and food more than make up for that. We will definitely return.

Today must be a bad day. The 2.00 cookie was as hard as a rock. Seriously. I wish the person who served it would have just told me it was inedible. Also: while I was there one employee decided it was appropriate to tell Mercedes (the other employee) that a dish didn't get washed very well. Then he showed her, and the customers. Yuck!

This place is phenomenal, special, memorable, and delicious! Go here if you want delicious food. And to think, we almost went to the article circle down the road for lunch. Veggie pizza - spekkktacular. It had pesto drizzled on the top. caesar salad - see photo, sooo good panini - amazing quality ingredients. Is this Oregon or Italy? rosemary apricot shortbread - yum! Prices can't be beat. I'll be returning - even if it's a 7 hour drive. I will agree that it took entirely too long for the food to come. But it was worth the wait.

Fantastic pesto, mushroom, onion, sausage pizza! Underestimated the size of the huge slice. Friendly staff. Great bread and buttermilk ranch. A little hard to find a seat since it's tiny but definitely returning to this little gem.

We were at an awesome superbowl party last night and the host had some of your very good pizza.I tried the combo and I must admit it was the best tasting sauce and meats I have ever had on a pizza ! I have tried pizza at every place here In Newport and the surround areas and this is the best crust, sauce and ingredients of them all. I will order one soon to take home !!!

We ordered the meatball sandwich and Caesar salad and the cashier told us it takes 15 minutes to make the sandwich. That worked for us. At 25 minutes (I had a text arrive just after I placed the order so I had a good gauge on the tine) I asked the cashier about the status. He said they shouldn't have the sandwich on the menu because it causes issues. He left to check on the status. The cooks were going to START my salad and the sandwich would be another few minutes. He apologized and said, "But, it's only been 23 minutes." Any child knows that a true apology does not includes "but." A few minutes later the food arrived. The sandwich arrived, without cheese. Fail. It was not as thoroughly heated as one would expect from a sandwich that takes almost 30 minutes to prepare. The salad was really tasty. I can find good salads elsewhere that are served with a sincere smile. Service - 1 Sandwich - 3 Salad - 5

I'll never know what that damn portobello panini tastes like - they took about 20 minutes to make it and I got tired of waiting so I got my money back. Granted, there was an order of 4 portobello paninis before me, but damn. I should've just gotten a slice of pizza or something! It just wasn't meant to be, I guess. One guy walked in to pick up his phone order and one of the girls working there forgot to put in the order. At least when they drop stuff, they throw it away - the guy making the paninis dropped some stuff on them (cooking instruments, containers, I saw a blender go down too) and that's why it took extra long - he had to start all over again. Earlier; while I was waiting (and still in a good mood), I think a girl was reaching for some cups that were stacked by the soda fountain and a whole bunch of cups fell...she threw them away too...so plus a point for those acts of cleanliness. The place smells wonderful and the staff seem nice, I just got tired of waiting and so did the people who were waiting for me.

I already had some fresh crab right out of the ocean waiting for me to rip apart! Now I needed some side dishes, bread, being one of those. I double parked and ran in for their focaccia onion bread and glad I did! Fresh, soft, great flavor and good price! I'll come by again in slow motion next time to check out what else they've got!

The BLT was the best BLT I've ever had. But I had to wait forever to get it, and the service was not the best. They seemed to be complaining and slamming around in the back. The girl working the counter was friendly however. My husband and daughter shared a greasy piece of pizza - and they were done eating and waiting for me in the car before I even got my sandwich, it was about a 30 minute wait. The entire place was full of people waiting for their food, and I wasn't the only one who though the wait time seemed excessive. However, like I said - the sandwich was great.

WOW. Wish we had found this place before our last morning on the coast. Friendly great service and off the hook pastries and coffee. My wife had a muffin and the Chai Latte. Probably the best Chai she has ever had. I had a mocha that was delicious and an apple scone. The scone was delicious not too sweet like so many morning pasteries are. We actually grabbed two more muffins for later on the road. This place is great.

panini bakery looks like a place that belongs in northeast portland. once you walk in and experience the staff, you realize how hipster the place is for being on the coast. the BLT is packed with thick-cut, quality bacon and i highly suggest getting it with the avocado and brie -- it really does make the sandwich perfection :) the pastries looked a-mazing, but i was too stuffed after the sandwich. definitely stopping here again to pick up some breakfast items next time i'm in newport.

Delicious food. Period. Everything is so good that you could just close your eyes and pick randomly from the display case, and you're guaranteed to be munching into mouth watering amazingness. But you'd probably like to use your eyes and nose, and you'll probably be salivating, so you won't want to be a blind sniffing drooling fool. I grew up in Newport and every time I come home to visit I make sure to stop by Panini's. Some recommendations: Their pizza is to die for--especially the eggplant or artichoke heart. Get it heated up when they ask so the cheese will be hot and gooey. The portobello and eggplant sandwiches are the best I have ever had, and yes it takes a few minutes for them to make it from scratch. They are worth the wait. Their coffee and chai teas are bomb. Eat your meal inside or take it to the beach just a couple blocks away.

Super nice guy at register who said he made the banana bread. Best banana bread ever! Crunchy sugary clove crust and a hunk of carmalized banana on top. Super soft and not too sweet! Coffee was decent

I was SUPER excited to come here because I read all the reviews on yelp. Let's just say the mocha was bitter, the cinnamon roll was delicious... on top and hard on the bottom and the pastry I was most excited about, the cheese danish, was hard all around. So dissappointed! The only reason it got two stars was because it was the prettiest cup of coffee I have ever had! They had board games btw that you could play just sitting around.

Been going here for nearly 7 or 8 years. Probably some of my favorite pizza in the world. The toppings are very generous, the pizzas are huge! I would know since I used to work here--and no, this is not a biased review. I'll be completely honest and forthright. Food : This is definitely a local hangout with delicious pastries and breads baked each day. Seriously the biggest, moistest, cinnamony cinnamon buns you'll probably ever find. When I worked here I hated when people ordered them because I could never keep from getting sticky when I put them in pastry bags. As for pizzas, like I mentioned they are huge, baked in a stone oven. Very cheesy pizzas, topped with a variety of meats and veggies. There is also espresso available and it is super tasty. For a unique drink, order a Borgia (a yummy Orange Mocha). There are also yummy sandwiches made with fresh cut meats and cheeses and the homemade bread. The soups are made from scratch, meaty ones using turkey stock. Dressings are also housemade. Service : The waitstaff is usually very sweet with a touch of snarkiness--not in a bad way, just very unique individuals throughout the years. That's kind of the appeal though. Service CAN be slow but not because of lack of attention, just because most times of the day there is just one counter person serving large amounts of customers at peak times. Atmosphere : there is always rotating local artwork displayed on the walls. The restaurant itself is pretty small, but that allows for your intimate coffee experience to have conversation or read for a few hours. Warm colors throughout the restaurant and it's really cozy in the winter time since it's such a small space--the baking keeps the place pretty warm.

Willow hit it right on the money with her review of one of my favorite Nye Beach spots, Panini. Mister M and I have been frequenting this shop since the cheap college years many moons ago, and I have to say it's a real gem. Back in the day, Panini was only open a scant 3- 4 days per week in the winter, which is our favorite time to settle in here. This scheduling difficulty meant we had to time our trips just right--so that none of our coast days were without Panini's bread. Their popularity now means that they are open more regularly and we can be a bit more casual with their services, stopping in to smell and taste their wares nearly each day. What I think is important to remember about Panini is that they are first and foremost a bakery. Not a sandwich shop, or a coffee house ... a bakery. It's true, they also pull a great latte (and use organic, equatorial beans), but you really come here for the bread--and in particular the sourdough. If you're lucky, you might also want to grab a slice of their pizza pie while it's hot. The chocolate paninis are also a thing of wonder. So use your visit to Panini as an opportunity to get in to the "coast spirit," take note of a small business making specific items in small batches, and make sure you bring your cash. No plastic is served here.

Always a popular place, food is good. After moving away for a time we happily returned to one of our must go places to find they only accept cash or check only while an ATM sits directly behind where you order. Some may find it convenient, I found it tacky and insulting to try and make extra money off the customer. Especially when square register is such a great option to cut costs while accepting plastic for small businesses these days. Shame on you for taking advantage of unsuspecting tourists. We decided to leave due to the outrageous cost for a slice of cheese pizza after all the ATM fees.

Went here with my family in an attempt to get lunch at 11:10AM on a non-busy weekday in Fall. The person at the counter could have at least greeted us, but remained quite as I looked at the pizza menu on the counter. While holding the menu I stated I wanted to order a Margherita... The counter person stated, "We don't serve alcohol". I stated I wanted a Margherita Pizza not a drink. As I was holding the pizza menu and there were only a limited number of pizza selections, it should have been obvious I was ordering a pizza. I was told "We will not start serving pizza until 11:30AM, maybe later". I observed in the background a worker rolling out a pizza crust getting ready to make a pizza, so asked, if you don't start pizza until 11:30AM or later, why is he making a pizza, but received zero response. We decided to go elsewhere and maybe try to get a pizza at dinner time, but decided against doing so because of the non-helpful, rude service received from the counter person. I followed up by phone in an attempt to make the owner aware of the incident. I was told by the person on the phone the reason they did not want to make pizza's until 11:30AM or later. They make a couple pizzas to sell by the slice in case some locals come in at lunch time. It may just be me, but a person at the counter wanting to order food vs. The potential of a local coming in, its a non brainier! At least I could have been told there pizza/locals policy when I first attempted to patronize this establishment. I was told that the owner would be happy to call me back the following day when he was in, but am still waiting for that phone call a week later. There are many reviews on here that state this place is good, but I feel good food with a lack of customer service is a reason to look elsewhere.

Pastries cannot be beat here, but I have had so many poor customer service experiences here, I don't even like to give them my money anymore. We ordered over $50 worth of pastries a while ago, and after leaving a generous tip, picked up the five boxes and struggled to open the door and take them to my car. The whole event was completely ignored by staff chatting behind the counter, when a customer got up to help me. Tried again to order some pastries for an event recently, and after sitting on the phone listening to employees talk back and forth about whether they could do it or not (without asking a manager, or apparently putting me on hold), they flat out told me they couldn't do it. I guess they just don't care enough to want my business. Which is a bummer, considering they make great food!

We asked some locals where the best place to get coffee was on the Nye Beach strip (without trekking into Newport itself). They recommended Panini's and I'm glad we took their advice. The 12 ounce latte I had was really good. The barista pulled good shots and the coffee beans they use are of decent quality. It came as a pleasant surprise since a lot of little shops tend to use beans that way past expiration (based on the oiliness they're excreting) or poorly roasted. Not so with Panini. My friend had a quad-shot Americano and I tried a sip of that as well. Again, really great flavor. No bitterness in the aftertaste. I'd come back here for a coffee beverage any day. I can't comment on their baked goods or pizza though since I haven't tried either.

Very good pizza and sandwiches. Not much seating but great for a quick meal or takeout.

Update 1/14/2013 .... Had to downgrade our review from 5 stars to 3 stars today. Had a bad experience here which is sad as it was our favorite place in Nye Beach to hang out. Simple order, one slide of Pizza and one Turkey sandwich with extra lettuce. 10-min later my slice of pizza showed up.. 10 min later, still no turkey sandwich. I asked the waitress, where is the sandwich, and she said it's being made now. I said my Pizza is now cold. She did offer to warm it up, but I don't want twice warmed pizza. I asked why did you not bring the food out together? I just got a deer in the headlights look. I told her to take it back and bring me new Pizza with the sandwich. So about 35 min after we ordered finally got the slice of Pizza and a cold turkey sandwich without the lettuce. So we had to send it back for that. I asked why does it take 35 min to take two slices of bread, add some mayo, a few slices of turkey, a slice of cheese and some lettuce? They said they had two sandwiches and a soup order before us.. (Wow!) I asked to speak to whomever is in charge... they said no one is in charge. For service 1 star for food 5 stars, but now overall 2-3 stars.. not sure what happened. New owners? Stopped Caring? Hired Relatives? No clue, but if I come back it will to just buy some bread and go.. no more meals or coffee or stuff, can't deal with that service. Oh well... _____________________________________________________ My wife were in Newport for our 12th wedding anniversary and we like to hang out around Nye Beach. We have not went up the hill that way before so we tripped over Panini Bakery. I really could use a coffee, so we stopped. The place is very very small and the seating outside is cramped, but what can they do w/o moving to a bigger space. So all this is overlooked, they are doing the best with what they have. The latte's were beautiful, huge and very tasty. The Chai was a bit odd, and took a while to get used to, but was still good. The Pizza is amazing, I am from New York and this is very close to NY Pizza, just amazing, wish I could order a whole pie, but how to get it to Albany, I don't know. I had a scone, very fresh, soft, flavorful, well made. My wife had a chocolate croissant type roll, and it was very good. I am not sure how or why some others gave this place a bad review as their baked items were great and coffee was very good. The woman behind the counter was very kind and pleasant, even though the place was very busy and she was under pressure. We can't wait to go again, it is on our list of favorite Newport Places.

We came here for afternoon comfort food on a rainy Oregon coast day. We ordered coffee and pastries and were quite pleased. It's small inside, but they do have some seating (our party of four had to sit at two different tables). Their baked goodies are delicious and their coffee is solid. The service was fast and friendly. One thing to note: they don't accept credit/debit. HOWEVER, they were more than happy to accept our out of state check.

My god that was a good Cinnamon Roll. and GIANT. and $3!! When we started looking for coffee on the coast at 7am on a Sunday we really didn't think it would be that hard to find anything, but apparently we were wrong. Luckily, we finally asked some locals and they pointed us to this surprisingly low-key amazingness that made our morning quite simply delightful. Incredible smells of early morning baking, some sweet music, and great local(?) art. This place is damn cozy and I would spend far too much time here I lived in town. We were even a bit short on cash (yes, cash only) and decided to pass on the cinnamon roll but he insisted we take one anyway since they would never be fresher than they were right then. So, two lattes and a massive cinnamon roll for about 10 bucks? awww yeeah.

Went here to get coffee on a stay this past weekend in Newport. Wow, was the service rude and bad. We didn't even stay long enough to get the coffee I was after because the girl behind the counter was so disinterested in helping us and was more interested in how cool she found herself to be. Also, big turnoff that they don't take debit or credit, only cash or check (!) but will happily point out the ATM right behind you. My husband pointed out they get paid every time someone uses it. Gee, how convenient but, for whom, really?? Went to another place to get coffee and food...

Great coffee, great banana bread, and delicious HUGE cinnamon rolls. What's not to love? Everything we tried hit the spot. The Americano is perfect.

Awesome breakfast pastries - some of the beat I've ever had. Good coffee though I had to go back and get a 3rd shot in my latte? Very friendly staff. This is a must visit at least for B'fast.

Thanks, Yelpers, for a great recommendation during our trip this week. Atmosphere: Super quaint and cozy. Seating for about 10 inside and two small tables on the porch. Lots of locals stopping in, as well as some tourists. Service: Really friendly staff. Coffee: Good size options, self service, tasty coffee. They also make a variety of coffee drinks. Food: They appear to have a rotating flavors of danishes, muffins, a cupcake, focaccia, loaves of breads, baguettes, and paninis (not sandwiches. I asked for a hard roll and they asked, "do you mean the panini?" When I looked confused they politely explained panini actually meant "little roll" or something like that.). We had a chocolate raspberry danish, a triple berry muffin and for the road, a sourdough jalapeno/white cheddar panini. Each was PERFECTION. Not too sweet, beautiful, and perfectly sized (not too small, not GIANT). The panini was soft and chewy with that beautifuI glistening, blistered crust typical of good sourdough. I would recommend this place to others without hesitation.

I've been back a couple more times. The coffee and baked goods are still good. And the pizza is also very good. This will be a regular stop when we come to the coast!

I'll start off on the positive: great coffee, but stay for the PIZZA. I didn't even know this was a bakery, and been brought pizzas or a slice, and didn't step inside until I was hooked. Ok, we have established that it is safe to order coffee and Pizza on any given day. This is an artsy community, and a touch of the eccentric and moodiness is just par for the course. Some days pastries are good served with a smile, some days wow, just grab your coffee and don't complain. It is best to remember that in this bakery the customer is NOT the boss NOR is the customer always right, and that's kind of cool. Every eclectic town needs a bipolar bakery. Four stars 'cuz theyz good... took off a star cuz I'm feeling witchy. ;)

We awoke this morning to find that we had forgotten one essential in our packing for a quick beach retreat... Coffee! So off we went, strolling two babies through Nye Beach in search of caffeine. I (of course) had yelped coffee beforehand and so Panini's was out destination. Wow, this is one of those times where I went against the advice of the yelpers and lived to regret it. The coffee was pretty good, better than expected, but the pastry... It was bad, really bad. Several reviewers tried to warn me, but sadly I didn't listen. First, I thought it weird that their were only two choices of pastry, I mean, it is a bakery. But, between strawberry or blueberry brioche, I elected strawberry. Then we took coffee and pastry out to the beach and sat on some benches facing the waves. When I took the pastry from its bag I discovered a soggy mess of bland pastry, strawberry slices and something dairy-based. It may have been yogurt, but it was chunky and sour and horrid. I wouldn't let my daughter eat it for fear she would get sick. The whole thing went into the trash. I think tomorrow we will try the other coffee place, Stephanie's, it has to be better.

Yum! I went here twice in two days, even after exploring all the other options at Nye Beach. The pizza was the perfect to-go meal to enjoy outdoors, the coffee was good (this from a tea drinker--take with a grain of salt), the pastries fabulous, cookies too, and best of all was the staff. They were patient and friendly, even with the dysfunctional dog lady who had to bring her dog inside to stand in line with her, while it wrapped around things, licked posts, and tied her hands up so she couldn't do anything. Best of all was the guy with the funny hipster (?) haircut who winked at customers (who all seemed to be his friends) while multi-tasking between pizza ovens, fresh blueberry lemonade, pastries and tables. It felt warm and friendly in here, even in the tourist-laden land of the coast where servers can get quite understandably grumbly. Thanks for the treats! Oh--like many smaller places, they don't take credit cards.

Best Lattes with perfect velvety foam as well as scrumptious breakfast offerings! I just love this place and I'm always here whenever I'm in Nye Beach. They also have a fantastic tomato basil soup and the poppy dressing on the garden salad is amazing! A couple helpful hints: 1.they do not accept cards, but they do have an ATM right inside the door. Checks seem to be ok too. 2. Seating is limited, don't get all crazy about it, if you have a little patience something will open up. BEST Bakery EVER. Seriously. Ever.

My favorite pizza. Coffee and danishes are good but its the pizza, sandwiches and soup that brings me back at least once a week. Great for grab and go or for quaint seating and a read, stick around wen its not too busy.

Once I was able find Panini I was overwhelmed by the wonderful smell of warm bread and savory pizza! My husband and I got a foccacia square to go and a soudough boule for later. Both were wonderful! A definite must visit in the Nye beach area....

Discovered this bakery while on a quest for a decent loaf of bread on the Oregon coast. The rustic sourdough was so good we came back for another loaf and a huge piece of pesto focaccia. Fabulous!

Dynamite pizza. Yes, they are a bakery and coffee shop, but I never got beyond the kind of pie that arrives topped with cheese. You'll need to rely on others for reviews of crumpets and coffee. The pies are worth the trip. Not only are they the best in Newport, I have yet to find their equal on the Oregon coast. The sauce provides the backbone for the overall combination while not drawing undo attention to itself. The toppings are of high quality and strike the right balance between a minimalist approach and the all-too-common overladen pizza. And, at least in summer months, there is the fresh basil. Handfuls of the stuff. Even misguided souls not in favor of basil would be advised to try it-seriously delicious. The cheese combination is special indeed. Each selection compliments the others, making the whole more than the sum of its parts. The reason for the missing star in my review is the crust. It is good. Distinctly better than average even. Just not up to the standard of the rest of Panini's pizza. It is a crust that aims both at the thin crust snap of a master baker and the fuller, flavorful meal-in-itself version while achieving neither.

Holy crap, this place is fantastic! Thank you to the line of 8 people standing outside it, which caused us to give it a try. The staff was super friendly. The vibe of the place is wonderful, very warm and comforting (as a bakery should be). A truly amazing selection of baked goods and pastries. Then there are these amazing looking breads displayed on this ancient bread display shelf. Had a ridiculously delicious lemon curd brioche thing *drool* Also tried this caramel nut bar which was amazing, too. Super SUPER buttery amazing crust and topped with all kinds of nuts, including pistachios. Not the prettiest food, but totally moan-inducingly delicious. The staff is not the fastest baristas in the world. So if someone orders an espresso drink, it'll take a few moments. But worth it. Topped lovingly with pretty foam, it was a very tasty mocha. What fantastic treats to munch as we walked along the beach. My only sadness was that we were leaving town that morning and couldn't justify buying some of the loaves of bread, as well.

I have always had excellent baked goods for breakfast here. Seating is often a challenge, and there can be a line to order, but they bake some great treats. Significant downside (as of July 2010), they do not accept credit cards. However, if you're prepared with cash, you're gonna get a delicious breakfast. Their coffee is very good, too. I have never tried their pizzas, but everyone I've spoken to that has stated they are very good.

Excellent service and a darn tasty pizza. A little hole in the wall with a ton of charm. It's good to see the bakers mixing right there with a big bag of flour and a kitchenaid. You know you're getting real food! Desserts were delicious and very filling. Would definitely come back to again.

Love this place! Had a delicious slice of pizza, cafe latte with irish cream, and yummy carrot cake cupcake for dessert. There's a reason it's so packed, and that's because the food is good, and the staff are very friendly. Really, what more could you ask for?

Everything at Panini is delicious. Pizza by the slice if you're in a hurry, or a whole pie for dinner for $20. My favorite is the roasted eggplant and basil. Lunchtime, the roasted eggplant sandwich on foccacia with spinach, feta, and balsamic is to die for and will have you dreaming about it the next day. I love the savory scones, parmesan and green onion pairs excellently with their superb coffee. Desserts are excellent, too: blackbottom cupcake, peanut butter cookies, bread pudding. Trying to impress at a business meeting? Bring an assortment of Panini pastries and a pump pot of their coffee. Trust me.

The food here is amazing. I usually get a slice of pizza and a cremosa for lunch. The people working there are always friendly and great to interact with. It is always full of locals, which shows how good it is. Definitely stop by if you are in Nye Beach.

The breads, pizza with amazing sourdough tasting crust, and pastries are fabulous. I have never had better banana bread. I hesitate to tell others about finds like this because I want them all to myself....but we live in New Mexico and I want it to be here when we visit twice a year. I don't have to worry about this, though as they stand on their own just fine :)

I stopped in for a treat last weekend and found a lot to choose from. They had really good looking pizza and lots of muffins and scones. I settled on a savory treat which was good except for the salt flavor. A little less salt would have been good. The counter staff were great and had a lot of patience. I think I will go for the pizza slice next time.

My fiance and I stopped here on our way out of town to grab something small for breakfast. This is definitely a place that I would go back to. The pastries are very yummy and made fresh. While we were there they were still taking some out of the oven. The guy that helped us was very friendly and it was nice to be able to sit outside, but be protected from most of the wind and rain. Overall a great bakery!

Living in Chicago, there is pizza galore of course. I have to say though the crust and sauce on Panini's pizza are superb! I popped in briefly to grab a quick bite...what a find! Great....everything! Had to come back at the end of the next day. Will probably go back again tomorrow (my last day here). This place is a real find.

I was there 2 days ago and am still talking about that pizza slice to anyone who'll listen. I selected the plain vegie thinking it wouldn't be quite so yummy as the sausage-combo so that I wouldn't be tempted to eat the whole thing. The slice was HUGE. It was noon so there wasn't much seating and I ordered it to go. That slice covered the entire paper plate. I went out to my car thinking I'd drive to a view point and eat it while watching the ocean. I took a quick bite and that's all it took. There was no driving anywhere. I consumed the entire slice right there in my car. I know I made moaning sounds with every bite. It had a great crunch to the crust, and the sauce was absolute perfection! So much for thinking I'd only eat part of it. I not only ate the whole thing, I licked my fingers and even tried to lick the paper plate. Thank goodness I live in Portland so can't come for lunch every day. Wow!

ok. picture a pillow-top mattress. don't look at me like that. just do it. got the image in your head? good. now apply that concept to pizza. a deliciously soft-but-crispy crust, with a fluffy little pillow-top of cheese. almost like it's floating there, on a thin layer of yum. now if only panini would join us in the 21st century and accept cards... side note: i think they're adding something to the water in nye beach. everyone was beautiful. it was like stepping onto the set of dawson's creek, but with a much larger body of water.

Great little bakery, with delicious breads and pastries. However, they're losing out on business by not accepting credit cards. The second time we came here we had no cash, and ended up having to go somewhere else for breakfast!
