Great service, all day breakfast, wonderful location, and delicious skillets. Had the corn beef hash. Really tasty and simple. It was filling and hit the spot. Prices were very reasonable and it reminded me of the good ole days of going out for breakfast after church. It isn't anything fancy but is definitely filling and fast.

Not bad, but could use some improvement. We ordered 2 breakfast items, the french toast with eggs and sausage, and the country skillet. The french toast tasted like wonder bread dipped in egg. The sausage and eggs were mediocre. It was a small breakfast for $10.39. Only 2 slices of the wonderbread sized french toast. (See picture) The skillet meal was much better, with potatoes, eggs, meat, and gravy. The biscuit was the driest biscuit I have ever encountered though, so I wouldn't recommend it. The odd thing is that the skillet breakfast was less expensive, and had more food. I might go back if I really wanted a skillet type breakfast, but probably not. The service was good, nice friendly people.
(2)Sonja L.
Great, fancy greasy spoon breakfast. Delicious bloody Mary's. I have never struck out here. The skillets are my favorite.

First went into the lounge, waited 10 min and nobody came over to serve us. We went into the restaurant and got seated right away. The place really smelled bad, but we gave it a shot. Our server acted like she didn't want to help us, we gave her our order, and after she brought our food she left . No sign of her after that. Another waitress filled our drinks and rang our bill. Really poor service but the food was ok
(2)Celia P.
We go here when we want quick yummy breakfast. Everyone we have come in contact with is always very friendly and always remember my kids :) I only get the country skillet! It is one of the best skillets I have ever had! My family loves everything they have tried. Would be a 5star but we wish it was open later and my skillet comes with biscuits and they are sadly always very dry. But we love this place :)

"Good Breakfast" We meet Kids and Grandkids there for Breakfast. The servers are very patient with small children. Children's menu and coloring. Lids on children's cups. The atmosphere is older but clean. The food is good, well portioned, and arrived in a reasonable time, considering there were 12 of us. What was the biggest upside?, is they DON'T add a automatic 15-20% gratuity for 8 or more people

This was a random stop on the way out for a day with the family. We needed to stop for breakfast on the way from portland to our final destination, but did not really want to stop at the usual "chain" breakfast places. As we're trying to figure out where to go, we passed J's and decided it was worth a try, and it was on our way. We were incredibly surprised at everything. The service was fast, the people were unbelievably friendly, food was great and affordable. What a find!!! I just wish it was closer to us in Portland, so we could come here every weekend. It is so rare these days to have all of those pieces in one place. Well done J's.

I think it's been a fixture in Newberg for a long time, but the service was nonexistent in the lounge and the place was dead. They're not always open when their signs say that they are going to be and when/if they are, they close early. I didn't actually eat any of the food, but that's only because nobody ever asked me if I wanted anything. So, while I sat in the lounge, I played video crack for about 30 minutes. It's a great place to go, if you just want to be left alone.
(2)Daniel S.
Not bad you know? It's not the Ritz but... It's fun for happy hour which when I go. The staff is really friendly. It's a good deal for what it is and it's important to remember that. Go, have a beer in the bar and get the Quesadilla! It's usually pretty quiet which is nice sometimes.
(5)Jennifer L.
Great breakfast, yummy burgers. The hubs and I usually split the chicken fried steak breakfast and it is perfect. The amount of food is very generous. The happy hour menu is awesome. The chicken strips are insane! My only complaint is they need to do some updating. If they did they would probably be a lot busier. From the outside this place looks a little shabby but dont let that fool you..give them a try!
(4)Tiffany O.
We went to J's for a quick dinner tonight and got just that. I had a BLT with sweet potatoe fries. They were perfect. My kids all enjoyed their meals as well. We enjoyed a homemade peanut butter pie for dessert and while it's super rich it was great to share! Noticed they also offer all you can eat spaghetti dinner every Thursday. We love J's!!
(4)Pamela Y.
I gave it an extra star as it was a good surprise! I was worried as it looked a little run down. The food was good and hot. I had quiche with soup. They do have drinks and it looked like a good selection of wine and beer. I did not have any. Service was perfect! Got here at lunch and the place started filling up. If you are in the area try it! Prices are good as well.
(4)Kimberly H.
I really like there brunch menu. They can accommodate some gluten free option with gluten free bread.Their chicken sausage is gluten free and you can subitute fries for sweet potatoes. Our told us they can subitute meat for certain idea as well. So if you have any food restrictions they will do there best to accommodate is what I'm saying.
(3)Sam R.
We go for Sunday breakfast here quite regularly and find that there is always a table ready. They seem competently staffed and I've never waited more than 15 minutes past ordering for my food! The decor is a little 'meh' but who cares about pastel wall and floor coverings when it's breakfast time? Cannot speak for the lounge or dinner services, but we will continue to frequent J's for morning meals.
(4)Carol G.
Perfect low key place for a drink and some hearty food. So friendly too. Loved our bartender, Jamie.
(5)Bryan B.
The breakfast is good. Great red potatoes and chicken fried steak. Staff has been nice. Honestly the food in Newberg is horrible but this place is pretty good for Newberg standards
(4)Slappy L.
We noticed the quality going down the last couple of years. It used to be a great place to eat and we miss it.My wife and I decided to give it one last try. .... The mushroom Swiss burger I had was lame, and the bun was pretty hard. We have decided to stay away from here until we hear of changes. This type of restaurant needs to sell fantastic cheeseburgers.
(2)Ali S.
The service left something to be desired, this is definitely a place for regulars. However, the food was surprisingly delicious. I could see this being a nice spot to grab lunch with some friends.
(3)Karri M.
I had higher expectations, but it was OK. I was excited to try their "famous" chicken fried steak, It was nothing to write home about. It was your ordinary frozen steak, with sausage country gravy. My husband had the Biscuits and gravy, he said it was also Ok. The biscuits were really dry. The best thing was the pepper bacon.
(3)Tina C.
We went for a late breakfast, yes they serve breakfast all day! They have a separate lounge area that has a bar and lottery machine's, if you want quiet adult only time no matter the time, ask for this area, it's quiet with sports on the TV's. The portions of food are seriously enormous, I would say two can share one dish, I'm not sure they allow it, but if your not a big eater, ask. I left half of my food on the plate, I took the pic with the Corned Beef Hash, Hash Browns, Two Scrambled Eggs, and English Muffin. The reason I gave this only 4 stars was because, for a "Diner" not to make their own Corned Beef Hash was very disappointing, it's the same you get in the can from the grocery store, it was just "OK". The Hash browns were nice and crispy on only one side, having them crispy on both would have been better. The waiter, was also the bartender, and he was so busy, that we did not see him too often, not his fault, it's the management team thinking he should have enough time to set up his bar, serve clients, not only in the lounge but in the normal seating area, that was the problem. If I were the manager, whatever waitress was serving the back half of the restaurant would also cover the lounge, so the bartender can be a bartender. Overall we were pleased, just by making a couple of adjustments to staffing and food quality would make it even better. We do recommend it though!

If you've been to Shari's or Denny's you already know what to expect for the most part as far as food and atmosphere go. We went last week for a steak and some soup. They give you some bread to munch on for a lot of the dinner items, so that's nice. If you're not traveling with any kids I'd recommend hanging out in the bar lounge. It's like night and day from the rest of the restaurant- wood floors, a fireplace, candles on the tables, and less opportunity for screaming children (no promises on the adults). The food is good, the prices are decent, the wait staff is really friendly, and its the sort of place you'd be happy to have breakfast with your parents at. It was a lot of fun.
(5)Laurel K.
We live in Tigard and was headed to newburg to go to wilco and stopped in. Huge portions, good prices, and quick great service. The chicken fried steak breakfast was fabulous and they had those big meaty pieces of bacon! We will take the drive again. We were getting tired of millers, davidsons and Shari's.
(5)Aubrey F.
It's been a little while since I've been to J's but of what I remember it was fine. I'd say on par with a Denny's or Shari's, maybe 1/2 a step up. Clean, good food, just not my first pick when we're going out.
(3)William H.
Had the salmon omelet in the evening after a long drive and it was great. Service was also great. Nice hometown feel.
(5)Megan W.
I have been here probably 20 times. Why 20 times and only 2 stars? The service is crrrappppyy..! Whenever I go there I can expect to be there for AT LEAST an hour. Last time I was there, in the lounge. We sat down at a table we didn't want to sit at, yet had no other choice because all the other tables had dirty dishes and food still left there. We waited for about 10 minutes, didn't see a single waiter/waitress, so I took it upon myself to go into the restaurant area to ask someone to come take our order. NO JOKE 15 MINUTES LATER a waiter comes in says, hello and walks right past our table. The food is okay, prices not expensive, not cheap. The happy hour is well worth it. The only reason I come back here is because I live in town, or meet up with friends and dont mind being there for hours, or sometimes I just don't feel like cooking dinner!
(2)Chad H.
If you like ants on your plate then this is the place for you. We have been going here for a few years now and each time it gets a little worse. The last time we were here we had to wait for our food for well over 30 minutes. We were sitting close to the kitchen and couldn't help but notice all of the food ready to go out to the tables and all of the wait staff just standing around waiting for something specific to come out of the kitchen. This time I went with my 2 yr old son. He wanted pancakes and bacon for breakfast, but I didn't have either on hand to make for him. (plus I didn't want to cook) The smell of a pig farm greated us when we walked into J's. I need to also add that the smell was getting worse and worse everytime as well. The service was good this time. When our food came out, my son noticed an ant crawling accross his food. Let me just say that he didn't care for this one bit. I imediatley grabed his plate and handed it back to the waitress who was waitiing on the table behind us and told her the problem. She took the plate back to the kitchen and brought him a new plate (not sure about the food though). When I got the bill, the kids meal was on it. I asked the waitress if they really expect me to pay this. She didn't think they did anything wrong. Kind of like it happens all of the time and we just have to accept it. There was never an appology of any kind. They had another chance to make this right, but they just don't care about the customer. Like I said earlier, If you like ants on your plate of food and the smell of wet dog, then this is the place for you.

My folks have been living in the Berg for several years. This place seems to be a common spot for us to meet them for breakfast. The staff is nice and the food is really good. Portions are good sized and I especially am a fan of breakfast here. I always appreciate a place that gives me the choice between regular old hash browns and red potatoes. The coffee is about what you'd get at most places (like Shari's and the like) so nothing special there. I hear their biscuits and gravy are the big hit but I'm more addicted to the chicken apple sausage breakfast myself. Quick service, good food, and I never leave hungry. All +'s in my book.
(4)Katie M.
A little fresher than Sheri's and way more friendly... If you want locally owned breakfast on the cheap and greasy end, this is your place! Breakfast burrito is good, if you like bits of meat in lots of scrambled eggs. Weekday specials are a really good deal, but not as filling.
(3)Tina C.
