Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Wow! Totally worth the drive from Portland! I wish all Chinese and Japanese places tasted like this.. The food was great, tasted amazing, freshly prepared and really nice variety. A lot of places seem to have your standard choices but 99 pounds buffet had unique and delicious foods to select from. The fish was perfect the veggies, meats, honestly I was blown away. The hot and sour soup was delicious (one of my favorite) and the staff was so warm and inviting. Really really enjoyed myself here and I go to a ton of buffets. Would give it more stars if I could, definitely worth more than the price! We will for sure be back. Buffet lovers should take the drive and come experience this place if they love buffets or great food.

Start at the farthest end from the front door. That's where the sushi rolls are. Don't expect top grade tuna, or even real crab in rolls labeled as such. They should be labled Krab to signify they are surimi. They ARE filling, and tasty. The hot foods are closer to the door. Although there are lots of hot selections, they are over-breaded, and almost entirely fried. There is a salad bar, and some desserts. Now I go just to get sushi rolls to take home. You get a lot of food for the per pound price. I wouldn't take anyone here because my friends would be expecting much better than this.

We have eating at 99 Pounds several times with different family members. The buffet has a pretty large selection but nothing seems to be homemade. The Hot and Sour Soup is the worse I have ever tasted. I tried it on several occasions but it has not improved. My Husband likes the buffet but I usually just have the sushi that is made there. If you want a buffet and pay a reasonable price it is not bad, but don't expect anything special.

The staff is friendly, the vegetables were cooked perfectly and I recommend eating here, a decent variety

Not a huge fan of this one. It used to be the Ohana Buffet, and it was actually really good! But now it's just embarrassing. I went there for lunch on a day off. I was seated promptly, but my table was pretty dirty. Got up to get food, and was kind of disappointed. Pretty small selection of food compared to some other Chinese buffets. I got a few different meat dishes, as well as some sides. Everything tasted incredibly breaded. I get that they use a lot of breading in American Chinese food, but this was ridiculous. I miss the China Moon buffet in Hillsboro. Now THAT was a Chinese buffet.

Terrible name, great food. Whether you like sushi or Chinese this is probably the best in town.

I have mixed feelings about the '99 pounds buffet' in Newberg. Stopped by for a late lunch on the way to the beach. The building looks pretty much new from the outside. The inside decor shows a large and elegantly designed space, built with good materials. This Chinese and Japanese restaurant could benefit from some clean-freak German custodians. The place looks like it has been heavily used and is now tattered around the edges. The windows were steamy, the floors slippery and the bathroom plumbing made horribly loud noises when used, sounds like I hit a bomb! Despite it being 1:30 in the afternoon, there were a good number of customers still arriving. The food was for the most part well-prepared and adequate in variety. Best of all was the price - DH and I left the restaurant totally full, with a tab that - even with a tip - that was well shy of 20 bucks.

I ate at the one in Minneapolis that was hella bomb. This one was alright, they didn't have everything that was like my 1st experience at the one I ate at in Minneapolis. Some of the food was cold and u could tell had been out for a while. Br u one the upside ice cream cones for the road trip home :-)

I have eaten at many fine Chinese Buffet restaurants and this is not one of them. It is average to below average at the very best. The food never changes or varies from visit to visit. It is always the same uninspired dishes day after day. The food is fatty and of very low quality. The sushi is not chilled enough and the fried rice is tasteless. If you are really hungry or you have not eaten for a couple of weeks then this might be a place to visit. Otherwise save you money and find a Chinese restaurant that knows how to cook Chinese food. My kids love it (All you can eat) .... that is their one saving grace. :)

Remember this is Chinese buffet, which should be considered different than a regular restaurant. If you go around normal eating hours, you'll be perfectly happy. If you go off-hours, the food can be a little dry and smaller selection. But it's buffet, that's the nature of the buffet business. The service is always quick and cheerful. I know they do their best for having fresh veggies as I more than once seen all the employees working on snapping beans towards closing time.

You shouldn't have terribly high expectations for a Chinese buffet. But as far as Chinese buffets go, this was good. A good variety of tasty food. Some things you try and don't finish, some you try and go back for more. I would go back.

The owners are always nice and pleasant. I would recommend going certain times. What I like is the place is always clean and the servers are nice. The food is okay. Not high end but they have Chinese and sushi. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I read all the reviews and was unsure what to expect. This place is awesome. It was amazing food and I ate way more than 10 bucks of food. Definitley will be frequenting

For me, Chinese buffets always sound like a good idea, but rarely ever are and I end up just eating mashed potatoes and a little chicken - However, I really like this place. It was clean, the wait staff was almost eerily friendly (most of them were very young so probably nervous), and the food was good. Especially the sushi. There was a lady preparing it for you to watch and I didn't have a single piece that wasn't on par with a few of the sushi places around PDX. Our waiter was very attentive and the price was right - $11 per person. I only have two complaints and they are very small - the slice of watermelon I tried was absolutely gross. Mushy (not in that watermelony way) and sour. It could have been a fluke, because I saw a few other people chowing down on it), but that piece was bad. And the grapes - while they were huge, they had very little flavor, which I know, is weird. How does that even happen? Anyway, overall, I really enjoyed this place and will for sure be back to stuff my face with more sushi.

I finally tried 99 Pounds Buffet today with a group of friends. We were all very happy with the freshness and selections offered. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised with the tasty choices available. There was the sushi selections, the normal Chinese dishes, three soups, a fresh fruit area, deep fried food area and desserts, plus soft serve ice cream. I think there was something for everyone in our group of 12. Most of us enjoyed the Senior Discount as well.
(5)Ron A.
Pleasantly surprised! The dim sum was tasty, the sauce was even better. Garlic chicken with jalapeños was tasty. For a $8.00 lunch, you cannot go wrong. The waitress was pleasant.

It's a Chinese buffet. Nothing special. Name is indeed a bit awkward. I think it would be best if you went there right when they open and all the food is fresh. Overall it's not something I'd go out of my way to eat at.

This was my first time coming to this restaurant, I was skeptical at first since it's a new place, but it was one of the best places I've ever been to! The service is great and the food even better, everything is always warm and they have a variety of food choices! I do recommend this place if you love Chinese food!! We went for lunch with my sisters it's $8 per person and drinks is $1.29 with free refills. Love this place & food definitely coming back to eat here!

George Fox discount was enticing. Sadly the food is not as good as it was during the opening weekend. Maybe if you are recovering from intoxication, this might be recommendation.

This was my third visit. The First time it wasn't bad, and at best, mediocre. This time it was much improved and a great value for the price. Cheese sanctions are as favorite of my daughter's. Mine are the pot stickers. Exceptional service.

Always looking for great Asian cuisine but this fell short unfortunately. Pros The place was clean and the food looked fresh. Service was very good. Staff was friendly and attentive. No complaints there. The Chicken in Garlic sauce was quite good Cons The rest of the food on the buffet needed moderate to severe help Lo Mein - way over cooked and mushy Fried rice literally had no flavor. I don't even know how that is accomplished unless you use no soy sauce while preparing it - which I'm certain was the case. Cream Cheese puffs had no flavor. Was like biting into a thick chunk of plain cream cheese Hot and Sour was neither hot nor sour - tasted like thick beef broth with some red pepper flake Climate control was either broken or not used on my visit. Had to be at least 80+ degrees in there. I really wanted to like this place given its location but this didn't pass for adequate Asian food. Seasoning is your friend!!!

I absolutely loved 99 Pounds in Newberg!! They had an endless amount of selections from pepper chicken to sushi, fresh sweet fruit and shrimp galore and beyond, piping hot and fresh!! The service was impeccable!! The restaurant was clean and inviting!! I would highly recommend putting 99 Pounds Buffet on the must wear elastic waisted attire to and return list!!

Delicious for a buffet this is a great spot with great variety! Clean and soups are hot. We will be back!

I took my Mom there a couple of weeks ago and I must say the servers are very nice, but the food..... was the worst I think I have ever had in the last ten years!!! Maybe it was our timing, 5:00 P.M., but EVERYTHING had a look of setting there for hours, maybe from lunch time. But OMG there was not one dish that was good! A lot of the containers were empty, and maybe that was a good thing. Why do new places open up and then serve that kind of food? Sad that this place will not last long, the door will shut and eventually something else will move in. We paid dinner prices for left overs. People want good food for their money, why serve this awful garbage and ruin your business? I love to see all small business's do well, very sad for them!!

We've eaten here 10 times, but probably not again. The service is always friendly and attentive. The seats and tables are always clean and comfortable. The prices are fair. But the food has done downhill. At first, it was fresh, healthy and delicious. Lots of vegetables and fruits. Now, it focuses on sugary meat, meat, meat. For many Oregonians, that's awesome! If they bring back the fresh non-pickled cucumber pieces, the steamed broccoli and carrots, melons without a sugar sauce and so on, we'll be back.

Heading back to Tigard and stopped in after reading some of the reviews. Not a big fan of the name.....I guess the 99 is reference to the 99W roadway but pounds? Makes it sound like you're going to gain 99 pounds by eating there.....possible over time I suppose. Anyway I ate there on a Monday night about 730 pm and not too busy. The place is rather big and was clean. The staff friendly and attentive. The young man who was waiting on me was helpful but seemed a little nervous. ...I attribute this to probably being his first job. I ate some of the fresh fruits including melon, strawberries, grapes, watermelon and fruit salad. All was fresh and good. Was also what appeared to be Kim chee but not being a fan I passed. I've noticed that many Chinese buffets never seem to have a great selection of vegetable salads. Also had the hot and sour soup which was ok. They also had egg drop and miso. Food line included many standbys, general so chicken, mushroom chicken, broccoli chicken, hunan beef, green beans, fried bananas, chicken wings, hum boa, pot stickers, crab routon, but included other items such as crab legs (although be it small) mussels , and even a sushi bar. I'm not a sushi Eater so I can't speak to this. The food was warm enough if not hot. Most was pretty tasty as buffet food goes. The peanut butter chicken was a little dry. They have some cakes and soft serve ice cream machine for desserts. Overall a pretty good place to eat and at 10.99 for dinner a good deal. Not the best buffet and if you want something better you can drive out to Spirit Mountain but considering that it's in a smaller burb I'd recommend it if you are in the area but don't expect a 5 star meal.

I would not recommend this buffet. My 1st time visit was two nights ago. I found hair in the walnut shrimp, chicken was not cooked, sushi was not fresh, most of the food was dry or mushy. The restaurant had a table covered with green beans for the employees to clean and sort in front of the customers, really not a professional atmosphere.

NOTE: this place has only been open a few days- so minor speed-bumps will probably be smoothed out... the name itself "99 pounds" is horrible, as the only two connections you can make from it are anorexia or gluttony. I am more of the glutton variety. They open for lunch at 11 am. I arrived at 5 past and found that I was the second guest there. There were a number of staff members on hand- many of them finishing a "pre-service" meal. The enthusiasm that they showed for the food was encouraging. there is a very big variety of food options, and I tried a little bit of nearly all of the hot items. the term "hot" items is not exactly correct, as the were more accurately "warm items". Again, lunch had just started and it is possible that the items needed more time to warm up on the buffet. In a "worse-case" scenario, the items had not been adequately "re-heated" from the night before. Regardless, I thought that everything I tried was entirely OK, and of the quality that you expect from a good-value buffet. I did not try any of the sushi or cold items, but other arriving guests seemed to graze there as much as anywhere. Lunch is $7.99 and includes a soda. There is no tax in Oregon. Include a $1 tip, and for $9 you will get as much warm, interesting, semi-exotic belly-fuel as you want. People (like me) who go to cheap Chinese buffets will consider this a rock-solid place to gorge...

I really wanted to love this place cause the food was excellent but when your boyfriend has been sick with food poisoning for 5 days, dizziness, nausea, vomiting from something he ate its hard to risk going back .
(1)Andrea H.
Just go ahead and skip this place. It's not good. The food was edible but it wasn't anything to write home about.
(2)Chris J.
Not bad, not great. Food was dry in a lot of cases, and service was terrible, although I would cut them slack on this since it was opening night and the wait staff is probably still learning. The Beijing pork was tasty, although removing the bones before serving would be a good idea. Some of those pieces were bite sized with bones in the middle, and that is a choking hazard for children who might not realize. The garlic chicken was also good, but dry. Selection was ok, but not great. Sushi was nothing special, although it tasted fine. Cheese wontons were ok, but not super crispy. Overall, needs more selection, less salad, and more regularly changed food. This place could take a lesson from Buffet Palace on Hall, they have some of the same dishes but do it better and also have a good selection. However, the price was good--10.99 for dinner. I would say worth it for the price if you're starving and you want to fill up on Asian food.
(2)David T.
I'm not really sure about the other reviews. This place is awesome. The service was amazing and all the food was hot and fresh. You can see the steam coming out from under each pan. Finally a clean great Chinese restaurant in Newberg. Prices are great. Something like $7 for lunch and $10 for dinner and I couldn't believe it included a soda. Go check it out and you will love it like me.
