While on vacation in Merlin and staying at the Doubletree Ranch, we went to River Grill each morning for breakfast. Our waitress, Laurinda, was excellent and very personable and the food was done perfectly every time. Great experience!

We had breakfast. Nice and clean, food was pretty darn tasty. Good service. Who needs more than that?

The waitress and good food make this our restaurant of choice. Fridays we enjoy the fish and chips with a cup of chowder. Breakfast is consistently non greasy and seems made from fresh ingredients.

If I could give this place a minus 5 I would! Bad service and disgusting food! Stay away from this place! A gas station hot dog would be a better choice! Hopefully, the Health Department will shut this place down quick!

Smells like an old folks home... Terrible terrible food... Coolest thing is the wallpaper tree.. Mediocre service... Guacamole looks like toothpaste... Tea was delicious..

New restaurant that replaced Backroad Grill. Menu is much less unique than with the previous establishment. More of a good quality cafe now. One of the better options in Merlin.

Horrible food and the smell in the place was over processor the food quality. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

My family and I went in to the River Grill this morning and the place was very nice and quaint. The food was excellent and the service was great! Best chicken fried steak and breakfast burrito we've had in a very long time. Two thumbs up to their staff and food!

Service was very friendly and fast. Presentation of food was also nice. The waitress recommended their hamburgers, so I went for the blue cheese bacon burger. Menu said fresh hand formed patties. What I was served was a machine made frozen flavorless patty out of a restaurant supply truck. The bacon was also flavorless, blue cheese was well proportioned and good. The tomato, lettuce, and onion were limp and gross. My fries were the bulk frozen type and not fully cooked. With a glass of ice tea, the bill was $11.08. I could have had a better meal at a fast food joint for half the price. I won't be going back soon!

Sadly disappointed. I've seen the "River Grill" signs up for a while now so I decided to stop in for a burger and fries yesterday. My thought is, if a restaurant can make a fantastic burger and fries, then that's a decent measure of the quality of food since these are such basic items to prepare. I was inside for take out, and the restaurant was mostly empty since it was around 3 PM. The service wasn't bad, I got my food and headed out. When I opened my to-go container the presentation was actually nice, the fries looked delicious, perfectly golden brown and the burger looked very nice as well, with the exception of the green leaf lettuce showing signs of age. First bit of the burger was a let down. Flavorless meat that was slightly over cooked. Nothing gross, but very bland and not anything to write home about. The first bite of fries told the rest of the story though. Big flavorless fries out of a freezer bag. What a shame. Here is the opportunity to sell great food in the little town of Merlin where there is little competition, and the owner/manager has chosen to not offer good fresh ingredients. If I wanted frozen fries I could buy them at the grocery store or head to some large chain fast food place (who ironically makes frozen fries taste better than these). I don't know if the owner is reading the responses, but I hope they consider the criticism and attempt to be a restaurant that sells good quality fresh food that people will tell their friends and family about and long for their next visit. I'll surely tell people about my experience, but unfortunately I doubt that will drive many customers to visit. I think I'll get a real burger in town with a nice pink in the middle patty, and french fries that taste like they were cut from fresh potatoes that morning. If anyone is curious where that's at I'll just say I'll be at a burger place between E and F st. in Grants Pass for lunch today enjoying what a burger should taste like.

Food was good, garlic fries are outstanding, pleasant, fast waitress. Downside: salad served was wilted, no follow up on our possible food or drink needs. No asking to see if we wanted desert. I had to ask for more water.. This restaurat just opened April 1, 2013 however, the owners have owned a restaurant prior to this one.
