After going here my entire life and only ever getting a soda and Gingerbread with Ice Cream I finally ordered some food. I ordered their Jalapeno Burger with fries. It was decent. The bun was nice and fresh, however I believe the burger was just a frozen patty rather than fresh meat which they could get from the meat market across the street. Anyway, overall I liked it but it wasn't fantastic or anything. Probably will stick with the gingerbread and ice cream from now on and just wait till we get back to Salem to get real food.

Good shakes. Got a grilled cheese and was surprised to be offered a nice selection of breads. The rye was full of caraway seeds.

I have eaten here 40 yrs always on my way camping or going to Sunriver! I have to be honest , the food is lousy and sos the service! Was at its prime 40 yrs ago- sorry! Best thing on menu is still the gingerbread!

I have been going to the Gingerbread House for 15 years. When my parents lived in Lyons it was a real treat for the family to the gingerbread house. I stop by almost every time I pass the place. Nothing has changed in 15 years; the inside is warm and cozy. The workers are nice to locals and passersby. The food is hot and tasty; they make the food to order. So it does take a little while to get your food. They aren't a fast food place. You can sit down and enjoy your meal without someone trying to push you out.

This was the place when I was a kid to eat...THE PLACE. But the thing with age is this: it's best to not return to a place you loved as a kid -- because it won't be as good -- 100% of the time. So I haven't been back in like 20 years...which is a good thing. I still see it's in business, which is cool. So if you have kids -- GO. I'm just afraid to now as an adult.

Why 1 star rating after a one time visit? Im a contractor and a foodie from SF. I am also new to the Cascade area working. Stopping at least 1 a week for breakfast burritos, lunch burgers, and yes the Gingerbread shakes during the week. I think its pretty descent. Not nearly as good as Trexler Farms. Breakfast burritos kick ass. Weekends tend to have less quality food because of a change in staff, often with many restaurants. Yes the fat burger patties are frozen, but they do offer buffalo burgers and curly fries.

Here's the deal, you don't plan to eat at the Gingerbread House. You simply remember that it's in Mehama, while you're on your way from [insert west side of the state] to [central Oregon resort destination]. It's one of those "OOOOH, LOOK! Let's get a burger and fries!" type of joints. We ate here twice during our annual summer trip to Black Butte Ranch. It was a solid, efficient, 3 star experience. Burgers, fries, service: all fine. Nothing offensive at the Gingerbread House, I can assure you of that. We noticed two old gentlemen enjoying a coffee (on an 85 degree day) on both visits, which was rather charming. Heck, if I was a retired Mehama resident, I would likely join them daily. Super safe choice, and no real other option between Salem and Detroit lake.

Wake up Ginger Bread House and get a clue. The food is good and I'll give them that. The server is down right SLOOOOOOWW. And she is about as rude as you can get. I would not leave this rude woman a tip even though I know she will be taxed on it. Some old geezers where sitting in the corner and kept starring our way, very uncomfortable for my daughter's. If your old and Caucasian you might be treated better, we are American Indian and my friend is Filipino.

Not what i expected the prices to be for the style of the inside of the restaurant. We took our food to go, it was not a comfortable atmosphere unless you are the group of old guys chatting down in the corner. Service not so great, but the food was cooked well. Sad to say it was not what I expected from a landmark- local part of history.

Price was perfect for this small dinner. The Curley fries and regular fries were delish but the corn dogs were just those frozen ones from Costco not the hand dipped ones I remembered from childhood. It's right off the 22 hwy so it's easy to stop here and jump right back on the road.

I've been coming here since I was a kid - the GH was always a much- anticipated treat between Salem and Detroit. The food's always been fine, but the gingerbread and ice cream were the main attraction! Stopped today to bring my husband for the first time. The service was S-L-O-W. The gingerbread was out of a package and heated in the microwave, and nothing like I remember. More like a nutmeg muffin. The icecream had a weird consistency, More like ice milk. Overall a highly disappointing visit to an old fave. Next time, we'll just drive on past.

My family stopped in this restaurant after visiting family who were camping nearby. By "nearby" I mean drive 'til you hear banjos, then keep going. This restaurant is out in a part of the state I had never visited and only heard of in passing. There's not much going on in this town. I saw a meat market across the street. We saw a house with buffalo (bison??) on their front lawn just hanging out, which was pretty cool. The kids were hungry and I was tired of driving before I'd even started. We agreed to stop at the first open restaurant we saw, and this was it. The exterior is clean and charming. My daughter mistook it for the Gingerbread Village on the coast and asked if we were on our way to Florence. Sorry, kid, no ocean- just lots and lots of beautiful, pure Oregon rainforest. And rain. Did I mention the rain? Because it was pouring. Because, hey, it's Oregon and that's just what it does. We came in at dinnertime, around 6 pm on a weekend. I was relieved to see others in the restaurant hanging out, chatting, and eating. They seemed like locals who knew each other well. Okay, okay, so I eavesdropped a little. I'm a sucker for laughter and talk of times gone by. The walls were decorated with pictures of local events. There was a picture of the restaurant after the great windstorm of '09. (Do I capitalize Great Windstorm? I don't know that this made the Weather Channel or was officially named.) We settled the kids down and took a breather. The baby was squawking and wanted food 10 minutes ago, so I opened his baby food. Just as my husband, nephew and daughter were getting up to order, the cashier came by to let us know we needed to order at the counter. There seemed to only be two people working at the restaurant at the time of our visit- the cashier and a cook. The cashier was friendly. When it was my turn to order, I asked what she recommended. She gave several recommendations, but once I saw "bison burger" on the menu, I had to try it. I have never had a bison burger! Food was timely. Didn't take too long. My nephew was quite happy with his corndog. It was obviously pre-fab, frozen, and re-heated, but he was cool with it. Our family's fries were similar. They were fine. My daughter liked her burger well enough, as did my husband. My burger was fine. It tasted exactly like a Five Guys hamburger, so .. I don't know if bison just doesn't have a different flavor or if that actually was bison. My burger itself was tasty and well put together. The lettuce was fresh and crispy, the mayo was ice cold, all great things. All in all we were grateful to find a decent place to eat in the middle of nowhere. This isn't where one would go to find haute cuisine, and the "reviews" from "foodies" critiquing it by those standards are ridiculous. This is American road food- pure and simple. Edible, delicious, not at all healthy but Ohhhh so good.

This place is awesome! Been going here since I was a kid! Note, I only live 10 mins from it now and use it as a treat restaurant! I called them to see when they close the other day, and not only did they stay open later, but they let me place an order so I can pick it up before they left for they night. So nice! The burgers are delicious with the option of elk or bison, I mean come on, can't find that very often! Curly fries are amazing and the pineapple shakes are to die for! The owner does her own baking; the other day I bought a chocolate cupcake with chocolate filling and a buttercream topping... OMG so good!

My family and friends would go here just about 2x's a week during the summer on our way to Detroit Lake. Some friends and I had a craving for it yesterday and drive 30min to get there. WORST service i have EVER had. We asked the lady about different burgers as she rolled her eyes and wrote the order wrong. I offered to pay for the person in front of me so she stompped rudely to grab the ticket she just hung like everything was a inconvience for her. She snapped at my 5yr old son for touching a cookie that we were planning on purchasing with the order. She was EXTREMELY rude! Not only that I was so disgusted with the attitude this lady had decided to not order and drive to Stayton to eat. Anyone traveling that way my suggestion is stop in Stayton before getting out of food areas.
