I love this place, and free tacos on Thursdays!

Excellent Mexican food, delicious drinks, fast friendly service, and arguably the best salsa in the valley. Always has live music in the bar and they have one of the best patios for outdoor dining & drinking. One of my favs.

Though the place was a little dark walking in, the colors around the room were quite bright. The staff was very friendly & prompt- it took less than 15 minutes to bring everything out, which was a good surprise. The music was what's to be expected- couldn't understand a word of it in Spanish lol, but that's not a bad thing either. The blackberry lemonade was refreshing & sweeter than expected. The chips & salsa- pretty standard. Their Enchiladas con Marcos was quite tasty- a little tarter than I thought, but was mellowed out with the chicken & black beans- the avocado helped bring down the tart bite, too. Again, the Spanish rice was pretty standard- though it seemed a little grainy. Then there's the 'django'- deep friend cheesecake drizzled with strawberry sauce & whipped cream... talk about decadence! It was quite warm & crispy on the outside, yet still cold, almost frozen, on the inside- like a French doughnut full of frozen custard. Overall, the meal- plus tip- came out just under $25, was definitely worth it & I'd definitely recommend it to friends.

VERY DISAPPOINTED...Bland.meager meat in chimichanga.taco soup a joke, just a few little chicken pieces and avocado in a bland broth.just yuk!! Chips tasted like old crisco and salsa had some weird Italian seasoning.just NO!!no..

I agree with the others that it's not super authentic. I guess I'd describe it as Tex Mex. I went here for a work lunch and enjoyed it. I ordered a chicken taco salad. It was HUGE and had a ton of nicely flavored chicken on it. Our service was great and we were checked on and tended to on a regular basis. My only complaint was the salsa was super bland. Tasted like canned tomatoes with a little bit of onion in it. That need some work. The atmosphere was fun and lively. Nice décor. I would return.

Came in after a long day of driving and riding MT Bikes and I was hungry. Waited - 10minutes but busy night Chips were warm, sweet and salty - good Salsa was watery, defiantly could have been better. Server was attentive Food took about 20 min to come out Food was Price was ok, little steep

Not particularly authentic sums it up for Habañero's. Sadly, that pretty much applies to just about every sit-down Mexican restaurant in Medford. But given Medford's general aversion to authentic ethnic cuisine of any kind (GOTTA BE AMMMURCAN DOGGGONE IT), no surprise really. That said, I think Habañero's (that's ha-ba-NYEHR-ohs, btw) is definitely the best of all the sit-down places in Medford. All the others (Si Casa Flores, Casa Ramos, etc.) are so off and bland, I'm not sure why anyone bothers visiting them. As others have mentioned, it's also a bar/music venue, so it's usually pretty lively in there, especially on the weekends.

Awesome! Chips were quite different than other places, but very tasty. Ask for their special salsa if you like extra spicy salsa (its actually made with Habanero peppers), although their house salsa is yummy. I got a "Bartenderita", which was twice as strong as typical restaurant margaritas (although still not too boosey for my taste...more like what I'd typically make at home) and quite inexpensive ($8.50)...highly recommended. It was the type with grand marnier, triple sec, & lime juice in addition to the tequila and standard mix. My husband literally had me guess the price, and I said $14 (although I'm used to Seattle prices). I liked that it was served in a tall glass on ice with a straw, as it is much easier to drink & stir that way. Hubby got some chile verde enchiladas and I got a burrito. They don't do refried beans, but their mashed pinto beans are just as good (and probably better for you without the lard). Fast & friendly service, great food, and great prices. Ambiance/decor and location/parking could be better, but those are our only "complaints". This really hit the spot after a long day on the road.

I just had the WORST experience here! Like ruin a night bad time!! My sis found an ant in her drink. The wait time between clearing plates and receiving check was 25 minutes even after asking for it. We asked for the manager and was insulted, intimidated, and demeaned by him. He approached our table and said,"So who has the problem here." What?! We explained our experience and asked for a drink to be taken off the receipt. He replied,"It's spring time. There are ants everywhere. There are ants in every kitchen." Is this a joke?! We explained that we all work in customer service and that the drink and wait time were unacceptable. Not to mention his complete disrespect and attitude, although we didn't mention the latter. He said,"Fine! I'll take off the drink! Happy?" Walked away and threw his hand toward us as if saying a big F YOU! It was the worst behavior I've ever seen from a "manager." As we waited for our credit cards to come back, the entire staff was giving us dirty looks. As we left the restaurant, my sister almost slipped on a small area of wet floor (it's a rainy night) and told me to watch the wet spot. The staff behind the counter said loud enough for us to easily hear,"um, no, it's dry, idiots!" Wow! Really? If these people worked for me, they'd be fired. This is the restaurant that I hosted my bachelorette party at and that my husband and I have been to many times. I will never ever again go here. I'm still in shock over this!!

I'd like to update and say that I left my ID on the table at the restaurant (even though the lady didn't even look at it- just asked how old I am?) and they said they NEVER FOUND IT. So they probably threw it away or took it and aren't giving it back and now I'm in a huge ordeal trying to get a new license. THANKS ASSHOLES, YOU CLOSING IS MY NEW GOAL.

Habaneros is a great choice for mexican food in Southern Oregon given the few choices we have. Overall their food is pretty decent. I love their chicken fajitas - although home made tortillas would really make the dish that much better. I used to love their chips and salsa, but when I went a few weeks ago they had changed them and I didn't like them at all. The service is always good, and you can usually get seated right away which is excellent. In the summer their patio is great to sit out and enjoy the beautiful summer evenings here in the valley. The food cost isn't too bad although could be a bit more affordable. Overall, it's a great choice for dining, but I do think there is some room for improvement in the quality of the food.

My friend and I went here recently and we were quite disappointed. The food was good, we got the nachos. However the price was just plain silly. The full order is $11 and $3 to add meat, but the half order? It's $10...$3 for meat. This just doesn't make sense to me...So I asked the bartender when he came around (they didn't have a server in the bar, even though it is quite spacious.) When I inquired about the nacho prices, the bartender instantly got defensive...maybe he had heard this question a million times before, I don't know, but honestly, that's not my problem...he could've played this situation off in a funny way that left us thinking he was cool, but instead he got all huffy and didn't even look at me when I asked how much of a difference there was...we ordered the half order...because a dollar difference wasn't going to sway me into ordering more food. The nachos were super tasty and the right amount of food for me and my friend... When the bartender came around to see if we wanted drinks, I asked "How do you like the cucumber margarita?" he said "It's good." and walked away...didn't even wait for me to say I wanted it....then 10 minutes or so later...I got one....even if I didn't want it. Over all, they get a few stars for tasty nachos, and a very nice looking place.

Bland and overpriced are the two words that come to mind when I think of Habaneros. The menu isn't particularly interesting and the prices are too high for Medford, and for the quality/quantity of food. The restaurant itself (ambiance, etc) is fine, but after one late afternoon lunch here we are in no hurry to return.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Medford area. Great salsa and interesting food choices and great service make this a great place to eat.

Habaneros may not be the most authentic Mexican food (it's about on par with Chevy's when it comes to authenticity, to be honest) but it's a wonderful hang out. They have a pretty good margarita selection, and I love going here with co-workers after work on a Friday afternoon. Be sure to take advantage of their "Habby Hour" food, too! Service can be a little slow, but I keep coming back. They've always been very accommodating of big after-work groups, as well.

My fiance and I went there for the first time earlier this week and were completely disappointed. The waitress complained to us about the quality of food and suggested we change our meal decisions. The food we chose was bland and pretty disgusting to the taste. We told the waitress the food was bad and she seemed uninterested and brought the bill immediately. TERRIBLE FOOD AND SERVICE!

Decided to participate in the pear tasting associated with the Pear Blossom festival. 4 diners total. 2 ordered the pear themed dinner. Pork dry, polenta pretty good, the wilted spinach and the pear themed drink was the best part of the meal. Service, pretty ok, not outstanding, not poor. Chili verde, average and there really isn't much you can say about a burrito. I think that the worst part is that when you are having a themed event, the pear should have been ripe and sweet, instead of hard and flavorless.

I've eaten at Habeneros a few times for dinner/lunch. Overall, this is your standard Tex-Mex joint. The food is heavy and satisfying. The chile rellenos are pretty tasty, as are the tamales. The real secret of Habeneros is "Taco Thursday," which starts at 6pm in the bar. If you order a drink, you can chow on the "all you can eat" beef taco bar, which is pretty good the earlier you go and a picked-over tornado of lettuce and taco shells later on. I was very unimpressed with the Margarita menu... the two or three that I've tried were pretty nasty and my advice is to stick with a cold microbrew in a big frosty mug. The patio is small but pleasant if the weather is nice. Prices are okay. Kinda pricy for lunch. The happy hour menu, which I think starts at 9pm (there might be an earlier one too) is good, with several tasty cheap options if you miss the taco bar.

Standard american style mexican food, a little overpriced. No one in town can beat free taco night in the bar though on Thursday nights!!!

This place is terrible for service, the staff barely notices you and you have to tell the waitresses several times when you need anything. The food is mediocre and the drinks are made oddly. I like Porters next store way better!!!!!

Best fish tacos I've ever had in the valley! The service was wonderful and the place was exceptionally clean and well kept. The fajitas were alright, but the fish tacos were the stars of the meal.

I think I know Mexican food. And fine cuisine. Compared to the other "Mexican food" restaurants in the area, Habaneros makes the most unique and savory place I have eaten in the Valley. The staff was pleasant, attentive and friendly. If one pays attention to what they are eating there, the food itself offers a plethora of subtle flavors. You can taste every ingredient. Their chile relleno is the best in the valley for sure. Give it a try. But then again, if you think Taco Bell is Mexican food, this might not be the place for you.

Ordered a Cadillac Margarita, came in a tall daiquiri like glass which was weird. The worse Margarita I've had in a long time. Weak with an artificial flavor. The salsa that came with the chips tasted like tomato sauce from a can. No flavor, lacking everything you should expect in salsa, onions, cilantro and jalepeño. Very disappointed. Don't plan on ever returning.

The food was ok, pretty good portions. But that's about the only positive thing. The salsa was like what everyone on here has said, plain gross. Not like real Mexican salsa at all. I had 3 Carne Asada tacos with a side of beans and rice.... and to put this lightly, my digestive system has been upset for over a day since. I have never had as much of a problem even with Taco Bell, and that's saying something. To top it off their prices are outrageous. $15 for 3 tacos and beans & rice? Never again. I'm sticking to La Tapatia in Phoenix.

Best Mexican food I've found so far in Medford. The California enchiladas and the baja fried fish tacos were great. And don't forget to get the queso fundido with shrimp!!

  • Stephanie R.

The service is always really good. Prompt, polite, and the food comes out on time. The food is not great. The salsa is bland and tastes like it's from a can, not fresh. Entrees are average, nothing memorable. Sometimes a little rubbery. Generally the place just looks dingy and seems to need some TLC.

Haven't been here in years since Loli owned it in the 70's. I was very impressed and would agree with other reviewers that this could be the best in the valley when considering 3 things: (1) food quality (2) ambiance (3) service. Very good portion sizes too. Some unique dishes on menus. There bar was real busy but noise did not carry thru to restaurant. We will definitely put this on our "regulars" list for Mexican food. Parking could be a problem for lunch being in downtown but we were there at 6 pm and not a problem

04/11/15 6:30ish WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE! My family and I decided to retry this place for dinner since we are visiting family in Medford. We were greeted by one waitress that took our drink order, then another waitress introduced herself as and informed us she is our server and asked for our drink order, which was fine. We ordered two kids meals, an appetizer, and the carne asada to split. The carne asada was not edible. It was weird and chewy and not cut, and impossible to cut. We were honest with our waitress who proceed to apologize offer other choices, when we declined she assured us we would be comped that meal. Then some grease ball came over to ask us about the food. We assured him we didn't like it and we didn't want anything else. He did not introduce himself and he was not friendly. We asked for our check which we promptly paid at the front counter and left. My husband set the pen down on the counter- mind you we paid full price for a meal WE DID NOT EAT, and we had to pay at the front counter. As we were leaving the grease ball THREW THE PEN AT US! HE THREW A PEN AT A FAMILY OF FOUR!! With a crowd of people waiting to be seated! He could have hit anyone! WE PAID FULL PRICE AND LEFT HUNGRY! Please do not go to this restaurant. We were informed by the waitress that it was THE OWNER who threw the pen. He quickly dodge to the back when we turned around. SERIOUSLY DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PERSON. The food was awful and he obviously is just a bad person.

Do not eat here if you have allergies!!! We asked before we ordered if the tortilla for the meal was flour or corn tortillas and they insisted they were corn. After the food arrived and the tortilla looked like flour we asked again multiple times and they insisted they were corn. Considering one person in our party has a sever allergic reaction when they consume gluten more care should have been taken in checking what was served instead she will be sick and unable to work for at least a week. This is unacceptable!! Management did their best to make amends for their mistake but the damage was done!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
