This is a perfect little diner right down the street from the airplane museum!!! It is located in a hotel parking lot but don't let that deter you... this place has a great look and modern vibe and puts out some great classics with a modern twist! We had the fried chicken sandwich and the classic reuben which were both recommended by our server. Both were well made, fresh to order. The reuben was made with beef brisket which was perfectly seasoned. Both sandwiches were pretty big- They offer full and half sandwiches and next time I will get the half. We also got tots with each sandwich that were crunchy and perfect. If I hadn't eaten my whole sandwich I would have gone for some of their pie. They also have brownies and cookies. This place has a breakfast menu I can't wait to go back and try as well as I overheard the server talking about their 3 course Sunday supper which made me want to eat again. Great affordable spot and good service- we will be back soon!

The fries are amazing. I'd come back just for them. But the service, other food, and décor is all great too. I especially appreciate that the food is all locally sourced. I just wish it was in a little closer in section of town.

Great breakfast spot! Really enjoyed everything about this place. The bread is baked fresh. My egg white omelet with broccoli and white cheddar was delicious. Simple food, done well.

Listened to the Yelpers and decided to stop here for lunch on the way back from the coast. Oh so glad we did! As a Bloody Mary expert, I can tell you--that has got to be one of the best spicy marys I have ever had. Like, ever. The service (Julius) was wonderful, and everything our table ordered, from the Cuban to the linguine to the burger and the grilled cheese--was excellent. Best dish at the table was the fried chicken club, which was flawless. We will be back, and we're hoping to try a Sunday Supper. What an awesome find! Can't wait to eat there again!

Stopped in for dinner with the family. Pleasantly surprised!! The kids grilled cheese was quality and huge! And the fresh fruit was delicious peaches and honeydew. My pasta was also yummy! I wish there was one of these in Duvall, WA( where we live) I would be here all the time!! The service was also wonderful and you can't beat the prices

Ordered the fried chicken club with a side of fries. Sandwich came out piping hot and everything about the meal was made correctly per my preferences. Fries were crispy, bread was soft but still had a slight crunch. The man at the register was extremely friendly. I had ordered to-go but he still offered me a seat and glass to enjoy my ginger beer (I advise getting the ginger beer if you are a fan of ginger ale). Overall great experience.

We stayed next door for two nights, ate here both nights. Service is great, the BLT and Cuban sandwiches are amazing. Dinner salads very fresh and delicious. We'll definitely stop here again.

Wow!! This place is a hidden gem, and surprisingly unknown. My husband and I were so happy with our meal, everything was made from scratch using high quality ingredients. I would hardly consider this typical diner fare, the food served here is something to expect from an upscale bistro only more affordable. The restaurant was very clean and kid friendly as well, they have a cupboard of games to keep the little ones entertained. Our server was very friendly and helpful with the menu. The Diner is located next to the Comfort Inn close to the Evergreen Aviation Museum...needless to say we will be back!

We all had great sandwiches for lunch. Their homemade sourdough is really good! Crispy fries, fresh ingredients in the sandwiches. We are excited to try out their breakfast :)

Three of us were in McMinnville for a family wedding. Instead of opting for the free-stuff at the Red Lion (which wasn't bad) we went to The Diner - across the hwy. From the moment we walked in it was good. The owner/chef greeted us, the place was clean and pleasant. But then, we got our food - it was beyond good. I had a ham and spinach omelette, which was the best one I have ever had -and that is my 'go to' breakfast. The sliced tomatoes were the tastiest I have ever experienced (and I am a tomato lover) - I am not kidding! - The bacon - the french toast, the eggs benedict - everything we all had was exceptional! I seriously recommend this place to ANYONE - it was that good. We all left their singing their praises as the best breakfast we have ever had...... Kudos to the owner! Oh - and the prices are great! Yes - i give this a hearty 5 stars!

What an outstanding place. I had the fried chicken club and coleslaw with a water for $10. But this was very high-end local food and fresh. You can taste the difference. The building looks brand new. Higher end cafe dining for a good price.

This was an excellent diner meal. Great service too. Most things are made from scratch. It is in the former walnut city restaurant building across from the hospital and mcdonalds.

Love this place. Small menu where they have perfected each item. Never a disappointment!

Portion to Price-for-Quality Issue We came in to give this place a try. This address has been a few different places over the last several years; we were hoping this place would last. After our meal we left concerned for The Diner's longevity. What we ordered had us leaving unsatisfied. I ordered a spaghetti plate. It came, and seemed scant for the price. Boiled down spaghetti noodles with a meatless red sauce. Yum? Oh, and, somebody took a deli slice of provalone, cut it in half, and rested it on top of the spaghetti upon serving. There was also a small slice of sourdough toast on the edge- not like a basket with several pieces. (I took a picture; the spoon and fork in the bowl shows the portion size) I thought it was expensive at $8.00 for what it really was. From the store it would be: 0.30 cents - Dried spaghetti noodles 0.88 cents - 1/3 jar Ragu vegetarian pasta sauce 0.18 cents - small slice of sourdough, lightly buttered 0.19 cents - 1 slice Kraft provalone deli pack cheese Now, I know there are huge expenses in running a restaurant. You don't pay your bills and pay for labor without first making a profit. Profit is not a dirty word. My point is, that for what seems to be $1.55 worth of ingredients, the quantity could have been more generous; or, for the price, the quality could have been improved greatly: maybe a chunkier fresh sauce, or nicer breads, or a hard Italian cheese option. That would have made me feel better about my stomach and my wallet.

I wish there were more places like this. My husband and I decided to stop somewhere to eat on the way home from the beach and found this great little place. Apparently the comfort Inn (next door) won't let them have a sign so there were hardly any customers :( so sad because the food was the best I have ever had eating away from home. All local. All home made. All super tasty. Please come to beaverton. You all are to far away!

If you are in the area, don't miss this place. Tiny boxlike structure next to Comfort Inn. Kids had burgers and tater tots, and husband had pulled pork sandwich - all excellent. Caesar salad has best croutons ever - feather light and still warm from the toaster! Root beer is exceptional, lemonade a bit sour (fine for purists but be forewarned!) Service was friendly and efficient. We'll make a special effort to return to this place, even though it's a bit out of the way -- it's THAT good.

The food was really good. Everything tastes good and everyone was nice and friendly. The place reminds me of a Starbucks except it's a diner.

We were here last night, what a great place. It is nice to have a place to eat by the hospital. The Diner was very clean and welcoming. We were very surprised when our 'fried chicken clubs came, they were big and tasty. The staff is very friendly and accommidating. They told us that soon they will get their liquor license.

On the Road from Newport, OR to Portland, OR The Diner is an incredible find. From the warm welcome we received, to the incredibly tasty food. Stop, and enjoy the rich flavor while on the road. You'll be happy you did!

In case anyone is wondering, this location used to be The Blackbird. The Diner is, as far as we could tell, a reinvention of the place by totally new people and just opened five weeks ago. Stopped in during a visit to the nearby Evergreen Aviation Museum, and the only nearby alternatives are the museum's own snack stand and a McDonalds. Well, if you're willing to spend twice the money for twice the quality of food, your mathematics skills will not be wasted. We had a delicious lunch! Someone else mentioned the rueben inexplicably having roast beef instead of corned beef, that happened to us too and it's the only reason I'm docking them a star, but other than that The Diner absolutely delivers on its promise. The portions and quality are worth the price, the service is very friendly and prompt, and the facilities are excellent (the building feels like it was built last week even though it's been there a couple years now). If you are traveling with family, want something above the bar of fast food, and need spacious booths and tables and an outdoor seating option along with clean spacious restrooms, this is where you wanna stop! Just don't be disappointed if you want a beer, they're still working on getting their licensure set up. One more thing I'd like to give The Diner a shout out for, we're from Portland and had never been down that way during a holiday weekend before. Upon mentioning this our waitress offered up some driving advice for the way home to avoid beach traffic...checked my smartphone apps and she was absolutely right! We had a scenic and delay-free return trip and discovered some new wineries along the way.

I confess, I miss the food from when this place was the BlackBird a lot but the new folks make a really awesome Tuna Melt.

You will not find better food in the Willamette Valley. First lets define what quality food IS. All of the food from this place is locally sourced, I'm talking about homemade bread, cow butchered by the chef, all sourced right in and around McMinnville. This is authentic REAL food. Ok, so you want to really support local? Then don't eat dinner anywhere else. The Diner represents the ideal restaurant in our community for the reasons stated above. Now, I haven't even gotten to the taste yet.. So the above items are amaze balls, but the pulled pork, Reuben, tater tots, salad greens and everything else? A $9.00 meal here would be $13-$16 in Portland. You won't find better quality, better taste, local and all other food greatness anywhere else in McMinnville. The kids items are huge portions and hold all the same amazing food qualities as above. PLEASE support this place, you are helping a truly local amazing food source.

I work near by so I've eaten here multiple times. The food is ok but really over priced, it also seems like every slice of bread is as hard as a rock. If you do go defiantly try the pasta primavera, it is simple but has lots of flavor. My biggest complaint is that the food does NOT match the atmospheire. As someone interested in design I feel like its a waist of a beautiful building.

On our way through town and decided to stop by on our way to the beach. Big mistake. ..very slow service took about 40 min to order and receive our food. High cost for small portions of bland tasteless food. Over fried fries and misleading food description. Ordered a ruben and swear it was roast beef.....no pickling spices used for that meat at all. Pulled pork sandwich was overly sweet , soggy and really had no taste...just sweet. Food was so bad we didn't even finish. On a positive note people were pleasant and the restaurant was nice looking and clean.

Stopped in late..... after 7pm and thought I'd have a Reuben. But then I saw spaghetti on the menu. Had the spaghetti with sausage marinara sauce. My oh my it was delish. Fresh homemade sauce.... really really good. I wasn't used to the melted Provolone on top, but it did the trick.... would have preferred some Parmesan. And I really enjoyed the unsweetened iced tea! I'm thinking it was maybe ginger infused??? No really sure, but it was quite refreshing. I'm going to try breakfast, a sandwich, a salad and their fresh homemade apple pie... ala mode! Got to see if everything is good,. I know the spaghetti is!! And as for the prices, I thought they were not out of line. (I do like the picnic tables outdoors with the yellow umbrellas.... nice visual touch.... and you can now see/notice the place from Hwy 18)
