Oh Chan's oh Chan's. A sketchy, dated Chinese place in McMinnville that I have visited many a times! Before tonight's experience I probably would've given them a 4/5 stars. Fast, diligent service, pretty tasting food, as far lower end Chinese good goes. After tonight though, that has all changed. I got my usual, hot tea, combo #8 which includes cashew nut chicken, sweet & sour pork (which I substitute with chicken), rice, and hot sour soup. Let's start with the soup. It's tasted a little more thick that normal and I found some substance that I can only liken to a small jellyfish in my bowl. This only began the jelly theme of the night. When the entree came, it looked normal at first glance. I dove into the cashew nut chicken which was alright. Not as good as usual, bland, and the sauce was jelly like. The sweet and sour chicken was even worse. In fact, the sauce was stringy! Then it got worse...one piece had a tail! Well what I liken to a tail! My family & I just referred to it as a mouse because, well, that's what it looked like! Well here we sit an hour later. Mom in bed, sick to her stomach. Dad locked away in the bathroom. Me, nauseous and cramping, cursing that combo #8. It's safe to say my family & I won't be back anytime soon!

I'm a vegetarian so lets start there. I liked the options that they had for me as some Chinese restaurants its one item.. However, I ordered two things and only one would I eat again. Now keep in mind that it could be just because they forgot part of my to go order. I ordered Moo Shu Vegetable and they forgot my pancakes and sauce. So i mostly ate cabbage and onion. The vegetable egg rolls those were yummy though. If If I was in the restaurant they could have fixed that but I don't really think that I should have had to fix that for them. Now this is what I should have got per their menu. What I got tasted and looked like a box of cabbage and onion. Moo Shu Vegetable (4 Pancakes) Shredded cabbage, green onions, woodear mushrooms, and bamboo chutes served with 4 pancakes and plum sauce So overall Meh. I've experienced better fits. One thing I will say is the size was extreme they couldn't even close the bag. That made a big mess but I appreciated the effort.

Not fancy, just great food at a reasonable price. Lost a star, because the egg fu young wasn't that great. Had egg fu young, cashew chicken, pork chow mien and Mongolian beef. It was more than enough for four of us, had lunch for the next day. I loved the cashew chicken, it had veggies in it and the mongolian beef was tender.

This is not the best Chinese food. I would not recommend taking a date here or even a business meeting. However what this place lacks it makes up for in service, and price. For $6 lunch special you get a heaping pile of food and soup. The lady always working at the front is impressively nice. I go here when I'm in need of a large but quick meal. Plus I have childhood memories of going to the Salem location growing up.

Came here for a party to celebrate with some friends and family during the grand opening of this establishment at the time. The ambiance was good, as it was full of people and the service was bustling. More importantly the food that was served was very good and while it may have been authentic dishes as a result of the party, I am still impressed as the surrounding area would suggest otherwise. The decor of the place is nice and while it isn't the most spacious restaurant in the area, they certainly make do with what they've got. Various Chinese paintings, signs, and decorations hang vividly from the ceiling and walls to create an charming effect that only certain Chinese restaurants can pull off. The staff is was courteous, friendly, and welcoming. Hence, I would endorse coming here again for anyone who happens to be in the area.

It's cheap. It's fast. It's a big plate of food. Definitely not true Chinese (Americanized), but who was expecting that from a place in McMinnville?

I have never had a bad meal from Chan's. The best deal is to order off their lunch menu, but I like many things on their full menu as well.

Really really wanted amond fried chicken but its not on the menu. So anything else was going to be not as satisfying. Ordered #7 combo (not the lunch special) because I wanted to try several things. The egg flower soup was good, not too gross to eat (its a texture thing). Plate came mounded with a huge helping of pork fried rice, bbq pork, sweet & sour chicken and several fried shrimp. Enough food to easily serve 2, if not 3, people. The waitress was friendly and effecient and was working her butt off, kudos to her. They seem to have a huge lunch crowd for the $5 specials. Next time I will try that instead.

It is fast, cheap and the portions are large. 2 lunch specials could probably feed a family of four with small kids. However it is nowhere near as good as even Panda Express.

During my stay in McMinnville Oregon , I had the pleasure of checking out a ton of local spots ... This little Chinese restaurant did not disappoint. The flavorful prawn dish had the answer to my msg cravings! The serving size was epic , waitress prompt, relaxing booth, nonstop tea refills, spicy , delectable hot & sour .... And I was full and on my way out ....fast & delish.. Done & done!

I did my research when we first moved to McMinnville... I'm picky about my Chinese food. I have been here several times. The food is always yummy!! I especially love the Beef and Green Beans in Black Bean sauce. Give this place a try. It's not a fancy or gourmet place, simple place, great food, at reasonable prices.

Service is great and fast! Perfect for take out as I usually only have to order 10 mins in advance and it is ready to go. Sesame Chicken is delicious and the sweet and sour pork is solid. Portion size is fantastic for all dishes and prices are very affordable for lunch. Solid Americanized-Chinese food. Only drawback is quality of their vegetable dishes. But rest of menu is varied and great. Best Chinese food in McMinnville.

With 4 and 5 starred reviews, I expected better. The service was good and the quantity was more than ample : it was piled high. One dish would easily serve two people. I had the sweet and sour pork and cashew chicken. My impression was that the food wasn't prepared from scratch but had arrived from a food supply company and was then sauced and heated in the kitchen. The pork was over battered and dry. The chicken dish was overcooked with individual components hard to distinguish. Without the sauce, the food would have been bland. Pretty marginal.

I'm kind of surprised by all the negative reviews. I've been going here for 15 years and have never had a bad experience. They have cheap prices, great service, and you always get three servings for the price of one. If you find yourself preferring Panda Express, that would be the corn syrup talking.

Yuck! The vegetable were drowning in gravy, and the plate was over flowing in sauces. The food piled high on the plate, huge potions. The Chow mein noodles were all bean sprouts and no noodles. I left there wanting to vomit. This was an awful experience.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
