$5 Happy Hour Tequila Sunset was excellent. Fish tasted fresh. Fries were very good, you get an ample portion as a side order. The coconut prawns were better than expected. The Clam Chowder was a miss. I didn't order it, but the shrimp in avocado looked delish. Patio seating was just right on a sunny day. Fish and Chips took a very long time, everything else about average.

What a great night and lovely spot! We planned poorly and didn't make a reservation, but they were sweet enough to fit us in. (Don't make the same mistake we did... You might not be so lucky!) I had the pork chop special, topped with Brie crumbles and fig and topped with a wonderful sauce, and my husband had the surf and turf. Everything was done to perfection and the service was excellent. I especially loved the rosemary potatoes... subtly flavored... We're so happy to have discovered this place and will definitely be back!

Booked through Opentable. Arrived 5 minutes early. We're rudely told we could wait outside. We were never asked for the name on the reservation. We noticed that our table was very sticky. It was clean but but needed a good refinishing. A good wine list to compliment the menu. The food was good but not great. The sole was overcooked. The sauce had no taste and added nothing to the dish. The server was good as was the service.

Wow! Just had one of the best meals in a long time! Thank you NKN bistro for a lovely night.

Overpriced, portions very small. My friend had the veggie plate for dinner. There was about a quarter cup of rice and an inadequate serving of vegetables for such a high price of $20. My avocado and hummus appetizer was only half of a small avocado. For watermelon feta salad one expects big juicy chunks of watermelon and salty chunks of feta. I was served flecks of watermelon and specks of feta but, hey, plenty of lettuce. Ugh. Very disappointing. On the plus side our server tried hard and took our complaint about serving size with graciousness.

As a new resident to Manzanita Oregon we were excited to dine here. Made a reservation for 9/1 our anniversary. Arrived and were told they had no record of reservation. Absolutely positive I talked to a guy there who had a very pretentious way of pronouncing the name of the place when I made red. They said we can only go by what's on our handwritten sheet. No apology for or dismay just can't accommodate you. Will never be back with friends and family during slow winter season because of your uncaring attitude. Get it together or your going to fail

My husband and I agree that our dinner here was the best meal we ate on our weeklong roadtrip. The restaurant is small and there are only two servers, so reservations are required. But it was so worth it for us, as the food was amazing! The salad dressing (I think homemade) and spices on our seafood were perfect. We will definitely be back!

Great place! Super cozy spot with a great outdoor seating area too. Food is exceptional! Love the fact that the gluten-free options are easily marked on the menu.

Friendly, good humored service. Oyster shooters were good. I had the Sole with Hollandaise and it was fantastic. Families meals were also good. They had a few signature cocktails, of which I had 2 and liked them both,(the modified manhattan was great) If I go back to manzanita, I would consider stopping there.

As a Neah-Kah-Nie High grad, obviously love the name. Then, there's the food and the service, both of which are great. Good drinks, great seafood and apps. Go NKN!

I can't say how the food was as they were never able to honor my reservation. I made one they said they couldn't seat us because they were over booked, she was quite rude on the phone. Nevertheless, I made a reservation for the next night, called same day to confirm then 40min before my reservation they again said they could not accommodate my party of 5. Too much work and attitude- forget it!

What a lovely experience. Not just delicious, hot, fresh food, but excellent service, quiet but not pretentious atmosphere. Loved it. Order the bruschetta as an appetizer--what a burst of flavor!

From the start, our experience was poor. We were greeted by a smell that was somewhere between wet dog and mushrooms. Next we were seated by a moderately friendly server in a nearly empty restaurant. We ordered food and wine. Both the appetizer and entrees were 'ok' flavor wise, but preparation and presentation were definitely done by someone with no culinary training. The wine on their list was clearly from the mini mart from down the street. The bill for this evening of mediocrity was on par with some of the nicer restaurants in Portland. Save some money. Walk down the street to the Little Apple Grocery. Buy dinner from the deli counter. It will taste better, have similar presentation, and cost 1/4 the price.

When you go to the Bistro, you will walk away stuffed and know you just made some new friends. Owner/Chef is a huge Foodie and it shows. The restaurant and kitchen are small, so I highly recommend reservations for the best VIP experience. The menu is quite diverse with appetizers, soups, salads, 7-10 entrees plus 2-3 nightly specials. Think high-end Bistro fare, including a burger or steak for the carnivores. The halibut cheeks are amazing! However, they are seasonal, so if they are a special that night, do not hesitate to order them! The chicken fettuccine is consistently full of flavor. All very comforting! Call for hours. They recently started a 3-5pm Happy Hour with small and medium plates, definitely worth checking out!

Our experience at The Bistro included: -limited menu -limited hours open -bland Mac and cheese -soggy pan fries oysters -dry fried potatoes -average fish and chips -sparse shrimp on the salad -great feta and flatbread appetizer, although small -overpriced menu items I think that the bistro makes very good attempts at being a nice establishment. However, the food was just so-so without much seasoning. I don't think we will go there again. Amp up your menu and we will think about returning. :)

What a disappointment. The service wasn't bad, but the food is sub-par, especially considering the prices. My shrimp "scampi" was definitely not scampi - it was 4 shrimp over about half a cup of polenta. The shrimp bore a close resemblance to those pre-cooked, frozen shrimp you get from Fred Meyer. The fish from the fish & chips were measly (for $15) and tasted frozen. I could write more, but suffice it to say, all of our meals were not worth what we paid for them.

Had a wonderful date-night dinner with my husband there. We typically bring our own wine to places but after I did, I noticed several bottles I would have been more than willing to try. They were very accommodating in opening and pouring our wine (Reasonable Corkage Fee). I ordered the Shrimp Scampi that I also noticed was reviewed by another guest and completely disagree with their review. My (4) XL Prawns were the perfect sized meal with a cup of their wonderful chowder sitting atop the most amazing polenta I have tasted yet! I would order this meal again and again! Very sweet staff and even on a busy Saturday Night they were able to squeeze us in. (I highly recommend calling ahead just incase). Thank you for a wonderful meal and we will be back again!

Last minute reservation for our anniversary. What a treat! Friendly wait staff. Great food. We had the ahi salad, calamari, and grilled prawns. We couldn't decide which we liked best. The finish with triple chocolate cake made the meal complete.

Absolutely, love this place. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Bistro. The food was great, the atmosphere was nice, and the staff made us feel like family. Our server, Tesha, was one of those rare people that instantly make you feel comfortable. At the end of our meal, the owner/chef came out and talked with us/shared cooking tips with my wife. Everyone was warm and friendly, we could not have asked for a better night, a better meal, or better company. We'll be back next time we're in the area.

I'm really surprised at the bad reviews for this place. My husband and I just ate here and it was absolutely delicious. I had the egg plant neopolitan and my husband had the surf and turf ribeye. The mashed potatoes are amazing. They were both outstanding, and I would definitely order it again. Thankfully I did not read these reviews before I tried it. Our innkeeper highly recommended it to us.
(5)Michael W.
Amazing food and great price. Definitely not overpriced for the quality you get. Coconut prawns were amazing, ribeye and sole fantastic. Discovered this gem on our last night manzanita but will definitely be back on our next trip. Excellent service as well.

Wow. Wonderful dinner tonight, served by the very friendly and informative Teesha. Starters for us were a very unique soup with main ingredients -- stay with me -- apples, feta cheese and ham. Sounded odd but it was to die for. Main entree for me was Shrimp Scampi, served on a bed of coconut rice. Outstanding. Wife had a salad with avocado, coconut shrimp and a mango dressing. We learned while finishing our meal that they no longer serve lunch, but have added an outstanding happy hour from 3-5. We saw the menu, looked delightful. Manzanita now has another go-to, classy and reasonable dinner spot, with fresh ingredients, great food and hospitality.

My first reaction was that the decor felt incomplete. Also that there was a smell. Not bad - just odd for a bistro. After we ordered, my best friend and I panicked because the menu said "no credit cards" - but don't worry, they are now accepting them. We didn't get any cocktails or wine so no comments on the quality. It took a while to get our food. From ordering to delivery it to the table, I would say, it took around 25 minutes. Now this is obviously a small/new operation and there was only one person cooking in the back BUT we were the only ones ordering. And we only ordered sandwiches. I've made lots of sandwiches in my day - they don't normally take me 20 minutes. Food comes. We ordered a shrimp melt and a patty melt. Patty melt was the loser in this meal - meat had no seasoning. It didn't taste bad, per-say...it just didn't really taste like anything but meat and bread (even the onions had no flavor..and they're onions). Also, the patty melt totally wasn't a melt. It was just a burger on bread. no melt. The shrimp melt was better. Bread was soggy but the flavor was good. Minimal amount of fries served (we counted - there were only 9 fries). All it all it was ok. I rate the restaurant more like 2.5 stars. Maybe we just caught them on an off day.

Worst lunch we have had in a long time. I don't believe the woman running this bistro has had a shred of culinary experience or hospitality training. We made the mistake of assuming 1/2 dozen Local Oysters meant 'freshly shucked.' Instead they were mammoth-sized, 2 day old muddy oysters pulled from a plastic container, clearly intended for cooking, not serving raw & whole! They were swimming in grey muddy juice and they were disgustingly big--they overflowed large wonton spoons! We sent them back, explaining POLITELY to our server that we were hoping for freshly shucked oysters, and that these were too large to 'shoot'. The manager marched outside to our table with her hair on fire, shoved the lid of the oyster container into my husbands face and snarked "Everyone sources their oysters from the same source!" I tried to explain to her that we had just spent 9 nights in Washington and Oregon where we had plenty of raw oysters on the half shell and this was a first for us. But she was outright nasty and sped off in a huge huff. The rest of our meal arrived after an endless wait which had us questioning whether she was deliberately refusing to serve us the remainder of our lunch. (We were only one of three tables both inside and on patio, so...busy she was not.) Our Coconut Prawns tasted of greasy battered coconut--we could not taste the prawns at all. The wedge salad was yet more evidence of a sheer lack in culinary skill, knowledge, creativity. She had a young girl waiting the tables who was far too young to be serving alcohol--she was at least friendly but she did not know the names of the only two beers on their menu. Our bill arrived...wait for it...YES she charged us for the oysters! I have no clue how this restaurant is in business. Even if she KNEW that oysters grew in shells, I would never trust her to shuck one. But to charge us for something we refused to eat...pure awful.

We wanted to try the new restaurant in town. We arrived there to find that they had 3 other tables waiting for food.. outside there were another 2 tables where folks had received their food. I think they had a "rush" as you call it in the restaurant bizness... and it got away from them. There were only 2 women there, one cook and one server.. so I get all that.. We waited patiently. They might want to look at that though in the future as they need a backup to pick up the slack. In the meantime, I ordered the smoked halibut cheek, seafood salad on a croissant.. sounds like 1000 calories right? Oh heck.. I was on vacay.. so they don't count and all that.. Putting a heavy saucy salad on a croissant equals soggy.. BUT, don't get me wrong.. it was tasty. Never had smoked halibut and you can do no wrong with that fish, proof of that. I think it might have been better though if they just forgot about the croissant or put some nice hard bread on the side instead. The cook is doing some different things in there and I'm digging her palate. She had a shrimp bisque that had some unusual flavorings. We asked her and she could not even name half of the herbs she added as she had so many. She went on about how she loves that the farmers market is opening so she can get all her fresh herbs and goodies there.. Local and fresh is wonderful. My friend got the shrimp stuffed avocado. I think they must have found the smallest avocado ever though which did not work in the presentation very well. The fries are to die for. She's got that deep frying down, not greasy and crisp. All in all, they just opened.. working out the whole kinks thing. Note: They only take cash at this point. They are not serving alcohol yet? Will try them again next time I'm in town and hope I can add a star by then.

ask for the special! The owner/chef is the most incredible cook. She will always have the freshest of seafood/garden veggies for her famous chalkboard special

My husband saw this pretty Bistro while he was having coffee across the street. It is the new place on the block, housed in classic bungalow with bright interior decor, comfortable wood tables and chairs. We tried it for lunch today. Service was friendly and accommodating. Only fruit iced tea? Well they made us some black iced tea from scratch. I wondered what was in the Golden Pea Soup my husband had..so the Chef/Owner brought me a little bowl to taste. My shrimp melt on baguette was perfect. The creamy remoulade sauce and tiny shrimp under a cloak of melted cheese topped with sprigs of fresh dill worked well. The side salad of ziti, capers, red onions, bits of roasted red pepper was pretty and tasty, adorned with a sprig of fennel. My partner enjoyed his burger and fries, but wished it was served on a plate instead of a paper lined basket. We were told that all dinner items are plated, though. The servings are reasonable in size and price, so I had room for a luscious individually baked fresh pineapple upside-down cake. I wanted to stay for dinner!

This was the best meal we had on the coast. The food was thoughtful and creative and rather affordable, especially for the quality. We came in the off season and were one of only two tables, so had great personalized service. The shrimp scampi was delightful, and even the pineapple garnish was ripe and flavorful. An excellent cilantro sauce atop perfectly cooked grits. Wonderful. And the desserts were fresh, warm, and seasonable. Great stuff. So glad they opened!

We had a group of five and all enjoyed our food. Wedge salad was great, pork. Chop... Yum and the service was amazing!! Best ever and we eat out all of the time!

This place is not even open for business! How can any dish be famous when they haven't sold a cup of coffee even? Mikita you're a shill. I really wish the owners the best of luck. Having a false review damages the credibility of your restaurant. I drove to Manzanita expecting to try the bistro. Imagine my surprise when I walked up and saw the sign "opening soon" two weeks after the previous glowing review. I look forward to trying your restaurant when it is truly open and I hope a false rave yelp review will be unnecessary.

Great atmosphere, friendly chef, but portions were extremely skimpy for the price! Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but for $21 I got 5 fried oysters and a few home fried potatoes. That is about $4 per half-dollar sized oyster! No vegetables, no bread, everything else cost extra. The oyster stew was delicious as promised and the avocado mango shrimp salad was okay, except with too few coconut shrimp.

Overall: food is alright and the place has potential,. It just needs tweaking and perfecting. Food is not spectacular but not unpalatable, but the decor is warm and cozy. Price is a bit high for what you get, at least for what we experienced. They started us off with a bread basket and some olive oil and balsamic. The bread was cold and not toasted and I prefer mine either toasted or at least warmed. We ordered the spinach and artichoke crostini ($7) as a starter and it was pretty good. Tasted like spinach and artichoke dip on a piece of toasted bread and baked in the oven. Again not spectacular but not bad. I ordered the shrimp scampi ($21) and my hubby ordered the osso bucco ($21). My dish was surprisingly good. When it came to the table it didn't look substantial enough to be warranted as an entree but it had great elements. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, albeit only lukewarm when it reached the table, but the cheddar jalapeno polenta cakes were delicious! I think the dish just needed some side salad or some sort of veg to round it out as an entree. As for the osso buco...it wasn't terrible but not what we expected. We imagined it to be tender and falling off the bone and wouldn't really be needing a knife, but it was the opposite. It wasn't dry or overcooked, but we don't think it was really braised for a long time. It tasted as if the shank was par boiled and then placed in the wine sauce and put in the oven to bake. Flavours were there but the texture wasn't. The mash however that went with the osso buco was amazing. Anything with roasted garlic is a winner in our books.

Had a stuffed pork loin (with apple) and garlic mash potatoes. Food was good and presented well. A bit pricey, entree, salad, and a glass of wine was $33.50. About Portland or Seattle prices, but not your usual Manzanita rates. Ambience was nice and intimate. The by the glass wine selection was limited and not up to the quality of the food served. The staff was very good. They don't accept credit cards, so be prepared. There's an ATM across the street if you need one.
(4)Rhondalyn J.
WOW the food was so good the service was excellent. I will definitely will be coming back. We made reservations and I'm glad we did because they were packed. I will be telling all my family and friends. :-)
(5)Robert E.
We liked our lunch here. The owner-chef is enthusiastic about her new restaurant. It's called a Bistro and this small place is cozy, friendly and a quiet place to enjoy a meal. Just 3 months old, it has great potential. Not another fast food joint. I'd go back.
(4)C. B.
We had a lovely meal here. The chef and server were very friendly, and handled our food sensitivities/allergies easily. We had the pork chops with rosemary potatoes and a steak with sautéed vegetables. Both of our meals were excellent! They should have their liquor license very soon.
(5)Ll L.
Seriously, I don't know what the other reviewers are thinking...food was FABULOUS. Yes, you might wait a little bit, as this is not a fast food chain. Each order is thoughtfully prepared by a trained chef who is a wizard with flavors. This is a sit back and relax place, with a lovely ambiance, incredibly delicious food and very friendly staff. The chef dropped by our table and checked to see how we were enjoying our food. Can't say enough good things about this place.
