Ruddy Duck Restaurant at the Running Y Ranch Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

My wife really likes the Fish and chips, which she had had here before (but she ordered it with salad in lieu of chips). The hummus appetizer was very good, and came with raw asparagus (better than you'd think). My friend Troy ordered salmon which looked interesting - it came wrapped in some sort of paper, bundled with potatoes, and other veggies. I ordered the margherita artisan pizza which was delicious and interesting. More of a Euro style pizza (meaning straight tomato sauce and not an excessive amount of cheese.) The service wasn't the greatest but I think the server was doing the best that she could as she had a table full of somewhat drunk middle-aged guys on a motorcycle road trip loudly trying to recapture their lost youth (which remained lost). The only disappointment was the fact that there were only two vegetarian choices - the margherita pizza and a cauliflower risotto (the risotto was vegan).

The restaurant on site was delicious! We have allergies to gluten, egg and dairy but had NO issue with getting foods we could eat. Kids eat free when you are staying at the hotel. Our dinners with steaks and burgers, salads, drinks for 2 adults and 2 kids came to $35. Breakfast was delicious and completely covered with our breakfast voucher. We had duck sausage, ranch steaks, bacon, (don't judge we like our meats) fresh berries, tea and coffee that hit the spot.

The Ruddy Duck is the only restaurant at the Running Y Ranch, and probably the only restaurant within 12 or 15 miles ! (I also wrote a separate review for the lodge.) Since the lodge is quite far from town (~12 miles one way), we ate at the Ruddy Duck dining room since we were tired from our day's driving. The menu is rather limited, and the food adequate, but nothing special. Most of the staff seems to be in training. The waitress didn't understand me when I asked for a glass of Fume Blanc and I had to point to it on the menu. She also had to come back twice to clarify my husband's martini order. She brought the check almost immediately after serving our entrees. The next morning (a Sunday), the only breakfast choice was the buffet which was all-you-can-eat for $12 - basically just very dry scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, fruit and muffins. The next morning we got essentially the same breakfast off the menu for $9. On the second night, after our full day at Crater Lake, we were too tired to drive the 25-mile round trip into town for dinner so ended up eating at the lodge again, with a repeat performance of the drinks mix-up. Considering that guests are essentially trapped in this "resort" since all other dining options are far away, the restaurant options, food quality and service are quite disappointing.

We had lunch outside on the deck over looking the golf course. The food was good and the service awesome. However, dinner was a different story. The food was bad and the service was very slow. It was a new girl who was very nice, but poorly trained. Great place to stay, but needs a better place to eat.

We recently ate dinner twice and breakfast once at this restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed all the meals. The service was excellent all three times and the food was delicious. There were four of us and we tried the steak, the pizza, the pasta and the delicious breakfast. I don't know what some of the negative reviewers were talking about.

Okay so all these reviews were cracking me up. I don't know what people were expecting from a hotel restaurant but they are crazy. I travel quite a bit so I have eaten in my share of horrid restaurants, this my friends is not one of them. Its pretty small, but then again, it's in a lobby of a hotel. I had the margarita pizza as it was the only vegetarian thing on the menu along with a house salad. The pizza was good even though I in no way consider myself a thin crust fan. The side salad was REALLY good rivaling my favorite outback salad and this one had waaay more dark green veggies instead of just iceberg lettuce. My mom has been to the hotel a few times and she's had the rigatonni which she said wasn't great but she loves all the other stuff she has had (fajitas, cheesecake, soup and salad, iced tea and the hamburger) she has LOVED it, she raves about the burger. I had the cheesecake tonight and she's right, yumm. And the raspberries on top.... were SO good. I could eat a bucket of those. Anyways service was friendly but not as constant as normal restaurants but they were busy so no worries.

I hope my experience is unusual but the three meals we had to have here were underwhelming. Food overpriced and under seasoned, service painfully slow even when the dining room is 2/3 empty. I suggest spending the extra $ on gas to get to a better spot for your meal. The scenery is lovely though, so grab a glass of wine and sit outside when you are not hungry.

I like this place, it is very convenience as we stayed at the lodge. Good drinks, good value, great meals comparing to anything nearby, + inexpensive kids meals. The waiters are excellent and not crowded most of the times.

The fish from the Tuesday night Fish and Chips special is a greasy and flavorless previously frozen indiscernible white fish. Don't order it. The burger was slightly better due to its chargrilled flavor. Was overcooked, under seasoned, came on a dry bun with one piece of limp lettuce and two small red onion rings. Had to ask for mayo. Update: my husband had an upset stomach the next morning from the hamburger. Service was friendly but not very good. Our first (and last) time staying here (we're on our way from Lake Tahoe to Portland) -- won't be back for accommodations or for food.

Four of us went for the Tuesday night fish and chips special, and it really was special. Service was excellent and friendly, nice menu selections, reasonable priced wine by the glass. The fresh cod was perfectly fried, four huge chunks per serving, with wedge fries and housemade tarter sauce...$11. Can't wait to go again!

After a long drive our party of four adults and two small children were famished. The ambiance was rustic and pleasing with a nice log fair in the lobby. The hostess seated us promptly and the wait staff was courteous and knowledgeable about the specials. We ordered the risotto fritters with spicy marinara to start and it was good, not great. The prime rib was good but would have been better with a jus. We liked that the kids menu included veggies, a drink and dessert for $5. Overall a pleasant and satisfying meal.

I've eaten here several times and haven't been impressed by anything. It's not bad, but I'd expect a little more based on the prices and the ambiance. Service is good and the servers are all nice so nothing to complain about there. My most recent meal was the Papardelle which is supposed to be in a pork shoulder bolognese. It came out and after munching on it for a while I seriously thought they forgot the pork shoulder. It wasn't until I dug around a bit that I found a few chunks of pork...I can't convey how pitiful the amount of pork was. Plenty of tomatoes though. The parardelle was overcooked and fell apart. That meal get's an F - don't get it. I've also tried the Running Y cheeseburger - it's good. It's fine. It's a burger. I like really like cheese so I got the cheese board. The menu says it's a "selection of regional cheese"...yeah right, that's laughable - mine came with Manchego, smoked cheddar, and gouda. None of which are "regional" unless you call originating from the cheese section of Fred Meyer "regional". These were clearly cheeses of the mass produced variety...the gouda had markings from being encased in those waxy coverings. The accoutrement was basic: strawberries, a few blueberries, some unimpressive crackers, and a granola-y kind of thing. Not to be a snob but that was awful...especially for $11.

Let me preface this by saying that we are big diners. Here and everywhere else we go. We are excellent tippers (where deserved) and overall open to almost anything. We WANTED it to be good! The wine was good and the bartender did a great job with the martini. The dinner? Not so much. I had the duck and foie gras app and it was (relatively) tasty for what it was. I had about 5 bites total (small ones at that). There was about a 1/2 an oz of foie gras and about twice that of duck breast. This was an extremely small appetizer and I've eaten at some very high end places. The burger was cooked to order (good), the bun however didn't have enough substance to hold up to being a burger bun. It was tasty though. Looking at the menu, I noticed that they had a $44.00 rib steak. With this you are entitled to ONE side dish. Nothing else is included. If you'd like say, a veg AND a starch the latter will cost you an ADDITIONAL $5.00...are you kidding me?? I'm sorry but we just purchased a 2 rib PRIME rib (not a standing rib roast) for 47.00, almost 4.5lbs. This is a retail price. As I have said before, their food costs have got to be pretty darn low as the profit sure seems to me like a big one. In closing, we would like to say that this is very much a shame and we are saddened. We we will not be going back to the Ruddy Duck until they are able to live up to their potential. 1 min · Edited · Like

This review is of the food., more so the service. The food is a three star. The resort itself is a solid 3 star- separate review. After 7 hours of driving, I did not care for another 30 minutes of driving into town for food, no matter how many stars awaited. Alas, the Ruddy Duck, or, the "confused duck"- At first I thought everyone was new. Nope. Perhaps the other yelp reviews were missing something awesome? Not really. I sat at the bar since the tables were full. The bartender (Referred to as K) was a little snippy when overwhelmed (6pm Sat night) but friendly when she had more time- she seemed to struggle with multitasking, which lead to smaller things falling to the wayside, such as me getting silverware, my water refilled without asking, and my dirty silverware removed after eating. The team behind the bar just seemed confused, frustrated, and not happy. The manager was not friendly. Although moving fast from time to time, he just lumbered around as if he is still playing Football, and with the stern game face to match. This is the service industry, and when you are greeting people, how about you act like you are happy to see them, even if you're not? At first, I thought "It seems like they are still sorta learning the ropes", only to find out this place is not new. Best example of how the team is not focusing on the customer: Older lady comes up, asks for a Maker's Mark Martini, straight up. The bartender lady (K), informs her they don't have any well bourbons, and Maker's is a +$4 to the bill. Customer says "I was here last night and it was 8 dollars but I added more Maker's and so it was 12 dollars". Bartender (K): "Well, I am not sure why they would do that, but the price has and always been 13 dollars for a maker's martini, I rang one up today actually and that is the price". Customer: "Um, it doesn't make sense, I will just figure something else out". *Customer then goes down to the end of the bar, explains situation to Mr. Football manager, who makes drink and comps it* This argument was over a dollar, if I understood it right. First off, it's one thing to protect your job like it's your own business, but, it was not- and to sit there and try to prove to a customer how YOU are right, was just... embarrassing to watch. The best resolution would have been "You know, I am not sure why it was punched in as that but let's get you the first one at the same price and then if you want any others it will be the correct price". Food: 3 stars. Running Y burger w cheese, swapped steamed veggies for Fries (Which I was not told was an extra 3 dollars, the bartender made it sound like it was same price). Burger was a good size, thick patty, and usual toppings. Needed a little salt. The steamed veggies (squashes, green beans and carrot) were overcooked. The veggies had pepper all over them. It was annoying because it was canned pepper, and I did not want that much on my veggies. The chocolate croissant bread pudding was yummy. A little overwhelming with sugar, topped with a caramel sauce, but still good, gooey, and delicious. Drink: No cocktail menu, but they just released a couple seasonal drinks, so I had the espresso martini, which was pretty good but a little flat. Topped with 3 coffee beans, they are not edible, do not eat them! Further- be warned, THEY SCOOP THE BEANS INTO THE DRINK WITH THEIR HAND. I WATCHED IT TWICE. This killed it for me, but I am glad I sat at the bar to watch. All in all: Better management is needed, and communication and damn, how about some standards, all around?

I went to the Running Y in March for my parents 28th Wedding Anniversary. I wish that I had something positive to say about the place, but the only thing it has going for it is the décor. I'd rate it at 0 stars if I could. When we arrived on time for our reservation (a party of 3) we had to wait a while to be seated which irks me! Why make a reservation if I'm not going to be seated promptly?! The hostess seated us and then we started with one waitress who was replaced midway through our dining experience with another waitress. The other waitress was still there but attending to other tables for some reason. Needless to say, with the staff spread so thin, all of our water glasses were dry constantly and we had to request refills. We ordered their most expensive wine which I was pleased with but the restaurant has nothing to do with the wine quality. Our BIGGEST mistake was ordering BBQ Hot Wings. They took forever which I attributed to the staffing issues and they arrived at the table warm-NOT hot but warm. I assumed that they sat under the heat lamp a while but the resulting EXTREME FOOD POISONING my father and I had at 1AM that morning was proof that the chicken wings doused in BBQ sauce was not even cooked. I assume the cooks thought that ordering pre-cooked chicken meant they didn't have to cook it but heat lamp or microwave it. Moving on to the main course which was prime rib and asparagus. For $30 it was average at best and they were already running out and did not have any medium rare left. Even an average person could have made a better prime rib at home, which I do. My father enjoyed his burger. After the mediocre service and food we asked for our bill and left. Like I said before 1AM I was reminded of this awful trip by 2 day food poisoning. My father experienced the same thing. I WILL NEVER RETURN HERE!

We had breakfast at the Ruddy Duck before heading out for the day. Our party ordered the All American Breakfast, the Fruit Parfait, and a kids meal pancake. Eggs and potatoes were good, bacon was excellent. Fruit and Yogurt parfait was delicious. Kids meal was free, a summertime promotion for guests of the Hotel. Views of the golf course while sitting outside enhanced the overall experience. Overall a 3-4 star, I gave a 4 based on free kids meal, and the fact that there was no charge for our drinks either. (Breakfast for 3 for only $15!)

I'm going to have to give them a solid D. Pros The food was on time and warm. Moderately priced for a "resort". Cons The meat pie pizza was about what I would have expected in a cafeteria or an airport fast food restaurant. The clam chowder was not as good as the canned stuff I get at Safeway. My wife said here pork shoulder pasta plate was almost uneatable. Best food within about 12 miles (the only food within about 12 miles) Recommendation Eat somewhere in klamath and then go to the hotel.

I read all the bad reviews about this place. The food was good but the service is bad! I had to remind them that we were here! Finally we ordered but never saw her again. We had to go to the bar to get another drink and more water. The bartender Mark, was very helpful and seemed annoyed but the staff as well. Bottom line... Yes, I would come back. But I would want to come back with more patience. ;) you'll need them!

4+ stars to bartender Jesse for his knowledge and skill. He was quick to take our order, knew his stuff, and prepared our custom drinks exactly as requested. We were attending a function in their conference room; dinner there was 'fine.' Not epic, not bad. Breakfast the next morning was also fine. Not particularly inspired, but it was pretty well prepared, and not too buttery/greasy. Fresh fruit cup was very fresh. My single pancake (ordered as a side) was done JUST right, and I ate the entire thing. Coffee in the hotel room was 'horrible' per my wife; the stuff in the dining room improved to 'wimpy'. They do have have an espresso machine at the bar, but we didn't give that a try. The young woman serving us did an excellent job, and we paid what I thought was a fair price for the food.

Worst breakfast I've had in a long time! The French toast was okay- just okay and that was the BEST thing that they offered. Sausage and bacon were disgusting, the hashbrowns were cold and unfavorable. Service was ok- nothing extraordinary at all. I would never eat there again, even if it was the only place I could get food!

Worst dining experience in eons. We stayed at the lodge the night prior and woke up starving. The person who seated us promised that someone would come to take our order -- that took 10 minutes, as we later learned the waitress, cashier, and chef were one and the same! We tried figuring out what was up with the woman who seated us, other than her scowling at folks and occasionally cleaning tables -- which was horrifying. She used a rag to thoroughly wipe down a chair, and then used it on the table! Lather, rinse, repeat. The poor waitress/cashier/chef took our order but forgot to bring the drinks out until she brought our meals. The orange juice tasted like concentrate. Friend's bacon was actually cooked crisp (per request), but everything else was utterly mediocre. I could have microwaved a frozen breakfast tray and it would have tasted better. When the waitress/cashier/chef brought the check, my friend had to chase her down to reprint one to charge to the room. At this point, it was an hour later...had we known how terrible the food and service would be, we would have checked out and gone elsewhere. Don't waste your money or time!

Being vegan, I was a little skeptical to dine at a lodge restaurant with no vegan options on the menu. My wife spoke to the waitstaff prior to our dinner and the chef graciously assured her that they would accommodate. I agreed to eat at the Ruddy Duck based on her persuasion. When we were seated, I spoke directly with the Chef concerning my needs. I was pleasantly surprised with his interest in developing a dish that would work for me. We used the orzo with a ragu and fresh squash. The ragu was first rate with just the right amount of red pepper spice. It was a homerun for a place that had no stated vegan options on the menu. My wife tried the margherita pizza, but asked to add some veggies and mushrooms (she is not vegan). All accommodations were met. The wait staff was very attentive and the food was better than anything we had on the earlier part of the trip in California. Really I don't know if we could have asked more from this place and they met every expectation. The only issue we had was with my mother-in-law's dish. She loves salmon with salad, but the only salmon option they had was farm raised (listed as sustainable). We would have preferred wild. While thanking the Chef after the meal, he stated that they were looking to add some options to the menu. I would recommend the dish I had for a vegan option, and it seems he is more capable of even better results if given the liberty. As for the restaurant itself, the views on the back deck were wonderful and the design of the interior is fantastic for a lodge setting.

Four of us at here for breakfast. Get buffet compaired to some places and the price was $12.00 when normal breakfast is $10.00. The service was good. Not busy. Easy to eat here because we stayed in a vacation rental. I will go back. We even were given coffee to go.

After being seated at a table outside, our group was also seemingly forgotten about! We had to go inside and grab a waitress to take our orders, some 20 minutes after arrival. The menu is very limited (I don't think being located 20 minutes out of town is an excuse), but I guess that in itself doesn't warrant lost stars. When ordering (after I finally settled for soup), she asked if we would all like separate checks. We said yes, that'd be great for our group of 7. Anyway, after another 25+ minutes waiting for food, my tiny cup of soup arrived. I thought for $6 for minestrone soup, I'd get a giant bowl with fresh breadsticks, or at the very very least, a packet of Saltines, but it was garnished with notta. My tiny mug of soup wasn't bad, though it was far from great. I kicked it up a notch or two by helping myself to green Tobasco from a waitress station. It didn't take long for me to eat the soup, so I was left to sit around waiting for others to finish their meals. I tried the fries and we all commented that they were like fries shells, with no potato meat inside! Rather crunchy and. . .empty (not in a good way). After so much waiting and finally being served 75 cents worth of mediocre vegetables for $6 and left hungry, I was pretty disappointed with our decision to eat there. While waiting for others to finish, I typed the first half of this review on my phone and to be polite, turned off my phone when the waitress came to our table with the bill. Despite her offer and our acceptance of separate checks, all of our orders arrived on one tab. We all said "whatever" to be nice and did our own math and wrote the card amounts and card numbers on the back very clearly for her to charge our cards. After taking (at this point, quite expectedly) a chunk of time to process the order (which gave me the opportunity to continue to type my review), the cards and individual checks came back and, what do you know, she charged my card $9 instead of the clearly indicated $6 I had wrote on the back. No one else's charges were incorrect, and the total bill, as we double checked on the back of the receipt, was entirely covered by all of our charges. I asked her to please re-do the charge for the proper amount and she admitted her mistake. She was nice about it but not extremely apologetic. The whole experience wasn't horrible, it was just very frustrating and unsatisfactory. Our waitress was friendly but the service was very slow and the food expensive and sub-par. I say it's worth a drive in to Klamath for a bigger, more efficient and delicious meal!

Four of us ate there and all had tasty food from the salmon salads to the chicken and rib eye steak. We had good service also. Would eat there again. Only funny thing was I asked for bread and they brought us 2 pieces for four people.

We actually stayed at the resort, so we ate here a few times. We actually found the service to be quite good and the employees pleasant. The food was very good and reasonably priced. The menu could have had a few more options, particularly healthy ones, but we really had no complaints.

Ruddy Duck Restaurant at the Running Y Golf Resort No. Eat somewhere else. Although the staff was friendly and seemed to work hard, the place just didn't make it. Slow service, mediocre to not very good food. The good things were: Good atmosphere, salads and dessert were good. The entrees: Grandma's Pot Roast seemed liked Grandma's old shoe, except with fat and gristle. My wife had the salmon. Hmmm. It didn't look like salmon. Her potatoes were chewy and just not good. The Running Y Hotel and golf course are outstanding. This in house restaurant was very disappointing. This is our third year staying here. It has always been a good place to stay. Last year we saw the restaurant under construction, so when we booked the hotel this year, we included meals at the new restaurant. A mistake. We had money left on our voucher from dinner, so we went for breakfast. Same thing. The staff was once again friendly, attentive and seemed to do a good job. However, just like dinner the night before, the food was mediocre. The potatoes served with the scrambled eggs reminded me of those frozen tater tots.... A little salt and paper, thrown them in the pan... and presto... breakfast potatoes. Not good. Little things make up the whole picture. There were several tables with dirty dishes the entire time we were there... at breakfast, and at dinner the night before. The silverware setting didn't include a spoon. My wife stirred her coffee with a fork. Yes, we could have asked for a spoon... Stay at this very nice hotel, but eat somewhere else.

We ate here with our two kids, as a hotel guest kids ate free, which is nice, but our meal left much to be desired. Both my wife and I ordered the salmon minus the potatoes and requested double the veggies plus a green salad. The salmon arrived before our salads (we had to remind the waiter not once, but twice about our salads and had been finished with our main course well before finally receiving our salads). The salmon was a very small portion, Approximately 2-2 1/2 ounces and most likely farmed. Our vegetables consisted of about a cup of soggy over cooked zucchini. Our waiter, while very pleasant and friendly seemed scattered and unorganized, at one point we were wondering if he was the only one waiting tables in the whole restaurant. As we were leaving I was wishing I had ordered one of their pizzas because they looked quite tasty. We sat on the patio, which was gorgeous, there aren't formal tables, but casual seating on couches or adirondack chairs....we did enjoy the view at least and our boys didn't complain about their macaroni. We won't be dining here again, but we WILL be back to the lodge...it is beautiful and exceeded our expectations, next time we'll try Wyatt's, just a short walk from the lodge.
