My husband and I recently started coming to Social Lies for karaoke on Saturdays and so far we think it's fantastic! The employees have always been friendly and attentive, whether working or not, and the service has been excellent. They went so far as to add my regular drink to their rolodex so I don't have to explain it each time I come in. The bartender named it Crushed Velvet & you should absolutely try it (equal parts raspberry vodka, Liquid Ice, and cranberry juice)! Their karaoke selection is awesome & the KJ Norm is fair & consistent with the singer rotation. We're excited to check out the Trivia nights on Thursdays and I've heard they may start offering bottomless Bloody Mary's and Mimosas on weekends for breakfast/brunch. All in all this is our favorite bar on the west side of Portland and I highly recommend you check it out!

The server was quite nice and knew the menu well, however it's a bad sign when it's an empty restaurant on a Friday evening and it takes almost an hour to get your appetizers. The nachos were pretty good, actually the potato chips were a great touch, but the burger left a lot to be desired: small patty, way oversized bun, overcooked, etc. We'll try again for breakfast during football season; maybe a different cooking staff is on shift and it could work more efficiently.

The service was really slow. Had to go up to bar to ask for refill on drink. The server ignored us. I guess if your not thirsty or hungry go there. The food wasn't bad

So.... The food is great, prices are reasonable, atmosphere is casual and relaxed and to top it off my favorite poker league holds games here every Wednesday @ 7. There's video poker and billiards as well as pinball and video games. The staff are friendly and the patrons are welcoming. Give it a try if you're in the area. Bonus!!!! - They are kid friendly!!! And they have Karaoke too on certain nights!!

Fun bar with karaoke and pool, great Ruben sandwich and potato skins. Michael the bartender makes everyone feel like friends and keeps things lively! Laura too, even as a half barthender. :) definitely worthh dropping in on a Saturday night!

We really liked how clean the place was, & it was nice that our 17 year old could go in with us until 8pm. My margarita was decent. Our food, however, was not. Son's French Dip was good (but he'll eat anything), my nachos didn't have much cheese, & fiancé's Club was so bad, he only took 2 bites. At least the waitress comped us on the Club. One table of 5 were the only ones ahead of us, yet it took almost an hour to get our meal. We probably won't be back. Drat!

Great service! The ribeye was fantastic and the jalapeño burger was legit! Good choices of beer on tap. Pool table. Pinball. Jukebox. Karaoke. Full bar! Old video games. Great price! Karaoke apparently!

The special I had was a shrimp melt and homemade chips. It was delicious. I liked that the English muffin was able to hold all that shrimpy goodness without becoming soggy. I've taken a liking to cider so I can say they serve Angry Orchard in a bottle. It was refreshing for the warm day and definitely quenched my thirst. The sweetheart had fish and chips and unfortunately, it was too crispy for his taste. When you walk into the place, it is dark and to the right is an enclosed corner where the lottery machines are. They had karaoke going on. Plenty TV screens for ESPN and I appreciate the food show that was on the other TV. There was only one bartender and service was as well as could be when arriving at the same time as a large group ordering drinks at the bar. We were in no hurry and Chopped was playing on one of the TVs. All in all, it was a pretty good meal and we left just before anyone in that group got drunk enough to try their hand at karaoke.

Been there a few times for lunch and dinner. Beer choice is decent. When you explain precisely how you want your food cooked it's great. Otherwise, meh. Service gets a 4 star. I asked another guest what he was having because the Club sandwich looked good. He said "yes, don't order the burgers" I have and he's right. The steaks are tough but when precisely ordered they are correctly cooked and come out nicely. Portions are good. The vegetables are way, way over cooked. Food gets a 2 star.

Tried this place last night before going to the Tuesday Hillsboro Marketplace. I am going to give some big kudos to this place. I guess it used to be a pizza place? My DH remembers the place before it. Our very helpful bartender let us know they gutted the place and they did a really good job, love it. When we were there, didn't see any younguns in the place, just probably a few regulars, wasn't very busy. Our bartender was very helpful and friendly. There isn't a whole lot of choices on the menu, well, ok there is but it is hard when you are avoiding carbs and starches. The one thing I did have on the menu was 1/2 a rib eye steak and I strongly suggest, that unless you are a huge eater, that you split that with someone! I, myself am not a big eater to begin with, but I finished my whole half of steak. That says a lot, I'm generally not a meat eater either, once in a great while if am backed up for choices. I hear they have some superb breakfasts, I definitely need to check that out. I believe HH is from 4-7. There was a few choices on that menu, but mostly pub food. I give this place a thumbs up!

This place from the outside doesn't look like much but we went here for a burger and was pleasantly surprised. The service was slow but the food was some of best we have had in the area.
(5)Richard R.
Service is fair, but the food lacks distinctive flavor and is very expensive compared to other similar restaurants. We ate on a Saturday afternoon: bacon cheeseburger with homemade potato chips and the daily special of a Denver omelette. Potato chips were soggy and had no flavor. Burger had such a thick and hard bun it had to be removed to be eaten. My 15-year old son took one bite and refused to eat more. The omelette lacked any seasoning. Total lunch meal for 3 came to $45 - much more than expected for this know and of restaurant and food. There's a good reason the restaurant is full of patrons who only order beer to go along with watching their football games. We won't return.

Went there about 10 pm place was pretty empty, food was good service was good as well. Had the breakfast burger and tots. burger was good and filling you can taste the freshness. Surprisingly good prices.
(4)Angela K.
Staff is super friendly and the food is delicious. It's very clean and they offer fun activities like painting classes. It's a nice relaxing bar to go to if you want to see friendly faces and get a good drink

What a great name. Regulars. Sometimes families are in there, which can be a buzz kill if they are fussy. I wanna try their breakfast. They are open at 6am everyday. Okay beer selection, but I wasn't too picky, it works for the neighborhood. They offer WIFI. Had to visit a few times when I was in Hillsboro for work. Had some nice service. One server allowed me to use the AC outlet for my computer, when I desperately needed it. On a second and third visit, this one gal waited on me, it was her first day--she had a nice smile and was really sweet. Then I came back another time and she was there----her co-workers around her didn't smile once. She was leaving and it was a shift change. I hope the smiling lady does well there. I think her name was Heidi.

Went here once after work. Good vibe, the burger I got was very good. Don't like that the smokers like to light up and blow 4 inches outside the door, but, hopefully the management can try to fix that.
(3)Steve E.
Don't judge a book by its cover. ..Though it looks like a nondescript dive bar on the outside. ..it betrays the great vibes inside. Super friendly service, food made with TLC, TVs for watching sports, etc. Thoroughly enjoyed an egg breakfast. Coffee was hot, fresh, and refilled as quickly as I could drink it.
(4)Christine H.
Very nice, clean spot. Solid food and friendly service. Lunch/dinner menu is burgers, sandwiches and wraps, everyone in the group was happy with what they ordered. Breakfast is only on weekends but it is a great looking menu.
(4)Christ F.
Nice service, limited seating.. Good food, big portions.. No kids after 8pm Happy hour 4-7pm

I have taken gruff from my MIL for taking her to a bar for breakfast. She is new in our land and does not know that our bars have to serve food and most of them serve pretty good food. This is not one of them. Now, that isn't an insult. Mostly. It reminds me a lot of Original Hotcake House out on Powell. It's not dirty enough, or seedy enough and there is no part of Hillsboro that I have been in that is remotely as...colorful as that part of Powell, but you will see the connection by and by in this review. For breakfast on the weekend, they offer an all you can eat breakfast plate, which is what we ordered. It is a base of hash browns, then breakfast meat, then scrambled eggs and then topped with gravy. This is all on one plate and served with each item on top of the other. Like your weird Uncle Dave would say, "It all gets mixed up after ya swallow it anyway." I think you would be hard pressed to call it anything other than stuff to suck up the booze that you drank too much of the night before. I did not expect much of the coffee and was not disappointed. Would I go again? Yeah, and I'd try something different. There are about four different places I can think of within a mile that serves something like this though. It does look like a fair enough watering hole for someone looking to get a glow on in an unpretentious sports bar. I'm giving it a "meh" because of that, but maybe I can raise the star flag higher after another go-around.
(2)Jef S.
Great pub food! Burgers are perfect, chips, homemade ranch, BLT, French Dip, it's all good! Nice people, fair pricing and they take pride in serving the best food in Hillsboro. Stay for trivia night or Karaoke! Our new regular spot for good times.
(5)Melina H.
The hubs and I went here on their grand opening weekend and I must say, I am impressed! The service is top notch for sure and their karaoke was absolutely packed - standing room only as they have a very well known local kj who now does his thang at Social Lies so come early to request a song. Prices are super and they have a full bar as well as food. We only tried the hot wings, but they use a super secret rub on their wings in addition to hot sauce which made them unique. I am sure there will be kinks to work out but I would highly recommend giving them a try...support our local biz!! Kids welcome through dinner then it's grown up time.

I read the reviews and went to see for myself. I am really looking for a quick place for breakfast on the weekend near my home. I found it. I had a really nice meal, great service and the country fried steak breakfast was really a hand breaded ribeye, not a premade frozen patty like other places. fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy hash browns, pot of coffee and great rye bread with a boat load of butter. With a 20% plus tip, under $20 for 2 people. Great service, clean and pleasant. only complaint, table was a little wobbly.

Went to Social Lies tonight. The staff was nice enough and the clam chowder was good. My hot apple pie drink was quite delicious. I wish there were some more non-coffee alchoholic drinks available, especially during the winter. And while the food was ok and the drinks were ok and the service was ok, nothing was outstanding. Just my two cents.

I woke up in the morning with the yearning for brunch. Normally I would whisk my way to Portland with a 30 minute drive then a 30 minute wait for some iconic brunch staple. Then, I remembered this new place 3 minutes from my house. Plus it had decent reviews. Why, not? I should have drove to Portland. My wife and I arrived on a Sunday at 10AM. There were only 2 tables ahead of us. Our food came out at 10:50AM. I tried to save time by eating in Hillsboro for once, but Social Lies only had one chef/line cook working the kitchen. So, yeah, you can imagine with 3 tables of brunchers he was in the weeds...BIG TIME. While waiting, I finished a decently price Bloody Mary at $4.50 and received no apologies from the one waitress who was also doubling as a bartender. I would have appreciated an apology or discounted drinks to make up for the wait, but I received neither. I can't imagine the wait for the 3 tables that followed us. To the one cook in the kitchen: I could see you working your butt off. You were baking biscuits, working the stove, flat top, fryer, everything. It's not your fault the place is understaffed. You tried to hustle and that bonus star up there is for you, buddy. Almost an hour later my Chicken fried steak came out. They claim it is a ribeye, but the point of chicken fried steak is take make the best out of a cheap cut of meat. So the ribeye just looked like a cheap cut of meat. The steak was plated atop the steaming pile of hash browns. Boys and girls, what happens when you add crispy breading and hot and steamy...SOGGY. The bottom of the soggy breading came right off. What was left of the breading could have used more seasoning. The gravy was run-of-the-mill gravy that lacked some depth. It could have used a tad more pepper or cayenne or herby rosemary. Did I mention they forgot my toast? Under staffing, shortcuts, and lack of flavor is what kills places in Hillsboro and the burbs. I shouldn't have to wait an hour for food with only a 2 top and a 4 top in front of me. Social Lies totally frustrated me. I was hoping for a good brunch spot near my house, but I prefer the drive and wait at Screen Door rather than having to wait so long for just decent food 2 miles from my house.

Social Lies Pub & Grill is a neat little restaurant right on 1st street in downtown Hillsboro. This delightful pub offers extended hours and a simplicity theme that extends to the exterior, the interior, and the menu. Service here is hospitable, friendly, helpful, and attentive. Our server, bless her heart, talked us out of having nachos with our hamburgers. When we received our burgers we were so very glad she did! The food proportions at Social Lies Put & Grill are enormous. The menu is concise and focuses on items like burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, salads, and appetizers. Most of the items are below $10. On our visit we opted for the "Morning Burger." This brought us a burger consisting of two 1/3 pound hamburger patties, ham, and fried egg in an onion roll. One of the best if not the best hamburger I have ever had. Social Lies Pub & Grill serves homemade potato chips with the burgers. They sprinkle the chips with parmesan cheese and my goodness gracious they are to die for. The homemade potato chips are so tasty that they don't even need dipping sauces. Social Lies is a pub that cares about their food service and it definitely shows. I've reached a point in my life where just about all I need is a tasty hamburger, some good company, a brew, and being treated well to make me happy. Social Lies Pub & Grill filled my belly and warmed my soul on a hot Hillsboro night.

Looks like this place is figuring out their identity. Turning into a more bar atmosphere with lottery now. We had a good time even though it got a little loud.
(3)Kristina G.
Just went back to Social Lies over the weekend and had another good experience! Several of us had burgers; everyone agreed that their meat is really well-seasoned and they have great buns (lol). One of my friends accidentally ordered the Social Lies burger, not realizing that it had THREE big patties. The look on her face when the plate arrived was classic. While she didn't finish all three patties, she said the burger was delicious.
(4)Maggie L.
Pretty good food and decent service but it always takes FOREVER to get food. It took 40 minutes to get my order when there were only a handful of mostly just drinkers in the bar.
(3)Calvin L.
I havent been there before i know where it is thjough i heard about a burger there that is called the Social Lies Burger which is 3 patties
(4)Amanda C.
This place is NOT your typical Hillsboro restaurant. The food is great and fresh! The restaurant/bar is clean and trendy! The staff is fast and attentive! I am tired of all the work it takes to go into Portland for some drinks and a decent meal. This place is great and local, and the prices aren't bad either. I highly recommend we get this place jumpin. Oh and ps, I have had the veggie wrap twice and its delicious.
(4)Tammy D.
The chicken fried ribeye is crazy good. The burgers are big and juicy on a perfect bakery bun. Its a bar atmosphere, darts and tvs etc. Great homestyle cooking is a surprise. We plan to come back for breakfast.
(4)Holly P.
Love the food, price was great, and Nick is an awesome bartender. California Chicken Burger was delish.
(5)Terry A.

Great food & service again ;) My husband & I had the 10 oz. sirloin patty with grilled onions & mushrooms with mashed potatoes & gravy with broccoli. My mom had the chicken fried steak. The gravy is a true southern style. Home made everything. A friend with us knocked out the Social Lies burger. A one pounder, yes it had 3 1/3 pound patties on it, with home made potato salad. I will be posting pics shortly of it all ;) Nice & open on the inside, lots of walking room. LOVE THIS PLACE
(5)Julieann F.
I finally got to try the clam chowder. Drumroll, please: it was great! Full of goodies and flavored right. The club sandwich was tasty and the service accommodating. I'll be back!
(4)Chris H.
Went here for breakfast after a night of working and had the "two egg breakfast" that had two eggs (duh) hashbrowns toast and a choice of two slices of bacon or sausage. I choose bacon. It was around 7:30am and the place was empty. The lady who served us (I assumed might have been the owner) was real nice and friendly. I got my food and it was. eh.... Nothing fancy. Good, but not great. something I could easy fix and taste the same. (I'm a bad cook. so much that I tend to eat out more then I should) Hashbrowns tasted like they might have been frozen. Eggs were good. they were not as fluffy as I like them to be, but they did not taste like rubber. Something I wish other restaurants will understand is not how you cook an egg! Bacon was crippy and toast was good. I'd go again as I always believe in second chances. Maybe try something different. tip: if you have kids, they can go here. they just can't go in the bar area, but everywhere else seemed fine.
(3)jason b.
We wanted a good place for breakfast in Hillsboro instead of always driving clear into Portland. Success! We've only been here once but the breakfast was very good and plentiful, and the service was friendly and social. Spanish coffee was excellent, bonus!
(4)Jeff W.
Was looking forward to breakfast this morning only to find that they are now only serving breakfast on the weekends. Lunch and dinner are still winners, so I'll look forward to breakfast next weekend!
(4)Dustin V.
It's ok. Kindve slow. Nice people though. I can tell they are working hard. Foods a little expensive. It tastes ok for the price. Might come back if nothing. So maybe get better food and it would be better. Also, hire more people to help out.
(3)James L.
We've been back several times, and I have to lower the rating based on the food. It's just inconsistent. Some days it's great, others it's sloppily prepared. Not sure if they hired some new cooks or what, but it has gone downhill a bit.
(3)Kenneth W.
Took My family there. On Fridays and Saturdays after 5pm they have prime rib. You get 12oz for $14.95, most places give you 10 if you're lucky at that price. My wife likes hers well done, and most places either don't get the concept of no pink, or it's tough. Theirs was perfectly done and delicious. I got the Chicken fried steak, this is a 10oz Ribeye!!! battered and cooked to perfection, The Gravy was good enough to want to drink straight up, and their clam chowder was flat out some of the best I've ever had, I wanted to take the whole pot home with me. Whoever they have in their kitchen, knows what they're doing. Service was prompt and attentive without being annoying. This is in one of those locations that can't seem Keep a business, I hope they break the curse. Try them out, and spread the word people, you won't regret it.
(5)Robert S.
Fast, friendly service, and they have tater tots.
(3)Christine R.
My mom and I went for breakfast this morning. It was wonderful! Best French Toast. Breakfast is only 6am - 11am only.
(5)Wade K.
Excellent food, great atmosphere. Very nice lady that waited on us when we there. The burger that I tried was massive and it was good. It was the triple burger. Would recommend to anyone.
(4)Kathy O.
Enjoyed their Prime Rib dinner last night, hubby had the ground beef steak. Loved everything especially the Clam Chowder soup. GREAT on tap beer choices and even Riesling wine for me! Large parking lot too. They also have three dart machines, two video games and a big pool table. We'll be back.
(5)Heather M.
Second visit at Social Lies! First visit VERY impressive, food beyond delicious! Second visit was take out and it was exactly like the table food. You can't go wrong with anything on this menu! I will have to pace myself as I can see my family getting carried away here. I have yet to have their breakfast BUT that is next on my list. GO GO GO to this FABULOUS new spot. Keep in mind this area has never really been successful as far as restaurants so I would love to start a word of mouth conversation regarding Social Lies. LOVE!
(5)Sue W.
My girlfriend and I stopped in and was a little early for Happy Hour, but the really nice waitress gave us the deal anyway plus the food. What a sweet person. Food really good and the place clean and tidy.
