Until our daughter found out she had celiac's we went here at least twice a month!!! The lack of a star is only because of that! Can't go there anymore :( ..... We will go on occasion though, and the home-cooking is really good! The German pancakes are scrumptious! 90% of the time I have the Mr. Elmers Favorite omelet! If you're looking for that homey feel, with the kind of meals out you had when you were a kid, this is the place!!

Food was pretty good... When it got here, it seemed to get to our table here and there, my salad came couple minutes before my prime rib so it got cold while I finished eating it. My son got served pancakes but the waiter didn't bring the syrup till we asked and my son was half done eating his meal. Husbands order was slightly wrong sent it back and it never returned till we asked. Our waiter Manuel c. Seemed to disappear to who knows where and then when he did come out he never glanced around we waved our hand in the air forever. Food was tasty but service was poor!

Consistently good breakfast. They're usually packed on a Sunday morning but even so, I've never had to wait for a table. The food isn't out of this world, but it is solidly tasty.

We have eaten here several times. It's always really good. Service is fast and friendly! Always leave full and happy. Lots of breakfast and lunch options. ..sadly not many desert options though.

My friends took me here for a farewell brunch and this was a solid choice! I enjoyed the dungeness crab benedict and there is plenty of room/seating.

Short and sweet. This one is close to our NEW home. Its typical elmers. Good food. Decent prices. Im sure we will come back here more than once. We like the other locations we have been to and this one was good as well. So if you are looking for a quick bite and a quiet place, stop on in.

Amazing! We are visiting from L.A. Camilo and Renee are great. Very courteous and respectful. Great customer service from the time we walked in to the end. The food is amazing. I had the strawberry crepes blintz , sweet and fluffy but not overwhelmingly sweet, made to perfection. My wife had the potato pancakes which I had to steal a couple bites. Delicious. A gem of a place. A+. I highly recommend.

I love Elmer's. We eat here a lot. I especially enjoy the potato pancakes and the German pancakes. But everything is good. My wife and I have been coming here for many years and have no plans to stop. The service is kind and friendly. I scanned some of the negative reviews and I really don't understand them. I do not work for Elmer's and feel free to check my other reviews. No one pays me to write nice things. I just don't bother trashing places I don't like. I write about places I would recommend. That's why I currently only have seven reviews on Yelp. If you're looking for five-star dining at a standard American-menu breakfast place, you might benefit by realizing the need to triple your meal budget, fly to Paris or Milan, and not order American food.

I thoroughly enjoyed the meal here but I'm afraid to try anything else because the potato pancakes were just that good. Next time I will try the dutch baby though for sure!!

Stopped in was pretty slow ordered breakfast my toast was hard and cold and one of the slices was the heal cold dry hard toast. Eggs had runny whites (yuck). Hash browns were excellent as was the bacon.

Crêpes and coffee are really good, our server was really nice and attentive...orders were taken quickly and food came to the table surprisingly fast with the amount of customers in the restaurant... My only complaints are is that its very noisy and its definitely not the cleanest environment, the carpets are noticeably dirty with tons of rappers and sugar packets and what not all over the place..

I always come her for birthday breakfasts with my family. I love their wide variety and people are very friendly. Plus they have candy on the front desk, which is great Very family friendly and delcious German pancakes.

I've been sick for what seems like forever. Today I ventured out to see my mom in Forest Grove. I really wanted a waffle and maybe juice. You can tell I'm not feeling well when my food desires are so basic. It's New Years'day and I wanted to keep everything simple... I didn't give dining companion any argument when the word mediocre was paired with Elmer's. Predictable, I said. Predictable is ok sometimes. The breakfast menu is extensive. Most any breakfast item you desire is on here and then some. No espresso though. I got a big mostly tasteless oj. $2+ And a waffle, perfectly cooked with syrup and a little yellow pile of....butter??? Margerine? And 2 tasty Zenner's chicken sausage links and a big pile of tasteless, dry, hard, scrambled eggs. My ice water was delicious. (Sick, remember). Dining companion got cinnamon roll french toast with bacon and the same scrambled egg, orange juice situation. The french toast was "rich". It had drizzled creamy frosting and was gooey with cinnamon sugar. His bacon was uneven as though it were reheated in the microwave. Some was tough, some was chewy, it all was greasy. Why don't restaurants dab it off? Our server Grace, was on top of our beverages etc. the whole time. She was friendly and efficient. She reminded me of a school teacher because she worked the tables like she was in a classroom checking in with two or three tables at a time. All the workers were friendly and positive. This Elmer's is the first I have been in since the one in Clackamas in 2004. Not for any reason, really, I just prefer independent places typically. I didnt remember them being so nice. I would eat breakfast here again but I'd skip the juice and go for poached eggs. Dining companion advises no bacon. ( kept trying to steal my Zenner's the twit). Elmer's has its place. They do a great business despite the outdated decor and the average food. I think the stellar service is what keeps people coming back. Breafast set us back $25ish plus tip. Not cheap. But, not bad either. I dont think I'd seek it out but I could eat here without too much arm twistin'.

This is my go to place for breakfast. I like them for dinner as well. Everything tastes so good and the service is great. They also allow substitutions. If you are hungry this is the place. I always leave satisfied. They have several locations in Oregon.

Elmer's looks like a 1970's Denny's, but the food is surprisingly tasty. The springtime Eggs Benedict was fresh and tasty. The German Pancake was a gotta-have-once sort of dish. I like the basic lemon, butter and powdered sugar. The hearty biscuits and gravy definitely will stick to your ribs. If you're looking for your basic down home breakfast, check it out. If you are in a hurry, don't bother. The service was kind and helpful, but slower than molasses.

Stopped by to grab some breakfast, looked kitschy/home-style restaurant from the outside and by the seating area. However, scanning the menu....my first impression is that the menu looks like a Semi-Homemade Cookbook™ by Sandra Lee © . I mean, why bother going to a restaurant if everything is from Pillsbury™, some brand meat™, or boxed veggie burger© . I settled on the "German" pancake and eggs with fruit. Pancake was seriously huge and surprisingly not bad. It was a little lacking in flavor (maybe it would have helped to get a fruit topping). The eggs were scrambled and probably better than any other I have had in the area. Fruit was not fresh and disappointing. Overall....not bad. Close to what I'm accustomed to (diners in NJ). I'd go here again.

This is my "go to" breakfast place. Great food with lots of local and seasonal ingredients, and over the top great service. I love the omelettes. Today I had Oregon Dungeness Crab and Avocado, and it rocked. And I always love the coffee.

This turned out to be good spot for breakfast. It was Sunday at 10am and the reviews said it could be busy. It was, but people kept coming and going. We were told there would be a 20 minute wait, it was about 10 minutes. The place was very clean and bright. The booth was spacious and had everything you could need already there. Coffee and water came very quickly. The menu is large, but clear with good descriptions and photos. Our waitress, Christina, was prompt and made useful honest suggestions. Breakfast came quickly and was perfect as ordered. Generous portions. The coffee was great. The German Pancake was huge and very good. I never felt rushed, but they get you in and out. I felt that we could have easily lingered with no pressure. A great local find.

My roommate and I have eaten here a few times and it started off okay. The last few times, our food was pretty meh, but today really took the cake. I ordered a patty melt and a breakfast side. My roommate ordered a large breakfast meal with a potato pancake, eggs, German sausage, etc. By the time the waitress finished taking our order, we were kind of confused about what we were even getting because it was like she was trying to over complicate everything. We sat there for 30 minutes before any food was brought to us, and the waitress literally brought his food one egg at a time. My patty melt was overcooked to the point of hardly having any flavor left. The waitress was already being kind of short with us at this point, and my roommate finished his food before I finished mine. She took his plates and then looked at mine and loudly asks him 'Do you need some clean silverware to help her finish off some of that food?' The way she said it was super rude and the food was way too mediocre to tolerate being treated like that. Before today, I would have given Elmer's a better review, but after the experience I had today, I'll find a friendlier place with better food to eat at.

The Hillsboro location is the bet Elmer's we've been to as far as food goes. I usually have their "Country Cousin Skillet" and this was REALLY good! The last time I had one at the Hayden Island Elmer's, the hashbrowns in it were sort of uncooked and soggy. The one today in Hillsboro was crispy and there was MEGA-cheese on top. My husband had the shrimp and crab omelette, and said it was LOADED with both seafood items! Our server was attentive and friendly, and all over, I'd give this Elmer's 3 1/2 stars, but there are no halves available. My only complant is that it's pretty noisy. It's the same layout as Hayden Island, so I don't know why it's so much noisier. It was quite crowded, though.

Too bad I can only give 5 stars. Valerie is a rock star and my family of 5 always has the best time out at Elmer's. Breakfast food is scrumptious. The Prime Rib is flavorful. There is always something great for everyone in my family and no one ever leaves Elmer's hungry. Great value and variety. It's a great deal and the staff is top notch. We need more Elmer's!! (and Valarie's). Keep up the great work guys!

Great food and local ingredients. Sundays can be very busy, but today we were able to get right it. The service was top notch and the food came quickly. All the orders were correct (there were eight of us). Everything tasted great. I love their focus on using local vendors and highlighting local flavors.

I woke up yesterday morning craving one of Elmer's German pancakes. As soon as we could get ready, I dragged my boyfriend out for breakfast. I hadn't even heard of a German pancake before the first time I came to this restaurant and spotted it on the menu. If you have never tried one, I'd compare it to a giant, thick crepe that is formed into a bowl where you mix up a delicious butter-lemon-syrup soup in the middle. I like to cut it into slices, like a pizza, roll each slice up, and eat it. So. Ridiculously. Good. Other than the German pancakes, Elmer's has the standard breakfast fare. Eggs, waffles, pancakes, etc. Everything I've had was good, and I would say it's definitely better than IHOP.

As a chain, Elmer's is easily 3 stars. This particular Elmer's just can't seem to get it together. I have eaten here 3-4 times in the past few months and the service is consistently slow and basically horrible. The waitresses are friendly enough, which I suppose you have to be when food takes forever to be served and orders are more often than not wrong.

Working graveyard shift and starting my weekend on a Wednesday morning, I had a hankering for the comfort of a Bloody Mary. My choices are kind of slim in Hillsboro, especially in my neck of the woods. I usually avoid chain places, but Elmer's fit the bill for Bloody Mary and breakfast. The Bloody Mary was actually good. I was afraid the bartender would pour a glass of mix and vodka and call it a day. This is Elmer's after all. The nice lady working the bar actually took her time and mixed a good drink. I think at one point she even was muddling the drink. Crafty for Hillsboro! The food was a downer. It was generic Denny's type faire but the prices were high. At $10-$12 per entree, it just made me dream of eating similarly priced food, but much higher quality in Portland. But alas, I am in Hillsboro. I would definitely come back to cure my Wednesday morning cravings of a bloody mary.

Seriously, the 5 star reviews on here have to be fake. I decided to try my luck again with Elmer's after having a bad experience with breakfast a few years ago. Bad idea. Got the french dip since it was lunch time. I like french dip, but honestly, it's something that is never done right anywhere. But most places are OK - mostly edible. Not the case here, not only was it bland, but it seriously tasted like the meat was spoiled. Then, the prices - $12 for a French Dip, and $2.50 for a diet coke? Really? I could understand that price at a nicer place, but at a diner things should be more affordable. The service was slow, the decor is really outdated and tired looking. This place reminds me of those run down places on that TV show Restaurant Impossible. Go down the street to Social Lies for cheaper and better 'comfort' food.

Elmer's is a diner chain located in the Pacific NW who utilizes NW ingredients. Consider this locally owned chain to be another Denny's or IHOP if you will. Elmer's serves BLD (breakfast, lunch and dinner), but unfortunately the execution is pretty much mediocre food. Not the greatest, nor the worst, but this is a decent spot if you want something nearby and hearty. Decor is very American Country. Seems a bit outdated, but if you're hungry, you don't really notice your surroundings =X I came here with with a group of buddies for a late breakfast one morning. Service from our waitress was great. She was attentive with our water glasses and was able to get us out in a jiffy since we were sorta in a rush. COUNTRY BENEDICT: scrambled eggs + sausage patties upon a fresh Pillsbury biscuit (not sure if that is a NW ingredient?). Drenched in a savory, country gravy sauce and topped with chopped chives, this is a sodium-rich, hearty dish! There's a side of fresh fruit or NW Hashbrowns. I opted for the fruit since I wanted to be a tad healthier than what I was devouring for my entree. I wouldn't mind ordering this dish again since it was pleasing. FYI: -Ample parking lot -Great for large groups (or just a table for two) -A couple blocks away from the Hillsboro Police Dept. and jail -Located in Downtown Hillsboro -Accepts CC -"Healthy option" menu is available if you're on a diet or counting calories -NW ingredients used in menu: Tillamook Cheese, Zenner's country pork sausage/chicken sausage, Daily's bacon I wouldn't mind coming back to Elmer's, but preferably for breakfast since they've got a laundry list of grub available.

My goodness, we haven't talked about this joint? Elmer's was my "go to" breakfast when I traveled in the northwest before I considered moving here, so that's going back--geez, twenty years now? There had been some hustle-bustle here at this location around the holidays; a new roof which I snickered to the staff that December was a potty month for a new roof. I found out that, in fact, this place had been franchised to a new owner and that they were fixing things up. In our couple of visits since then, the service and food has improved--it was OK prior to this change in management, now it is very acceptable, indeed. The interior is very nice, that standard issue country style of Elmer's with the big fireplaces and cozy appearance. I like Elmer's: as long as you do not tax the kitchen; stick to their very good breakfasts, the sandwiches and burgers, the pot roast is quite good, the turkey dinner is nice, too. I think I would walk slowly away from the "Pike Place Market" dishes...but you get the drift. Think what Denny's should be and you've got the general idea. Comfort food, when being comfortable is what is needed. We all have those days, don't we?

everything was pretty mediocre but the dutch baby was spot on. if i ever came back, i'm sure that's what i'd be getting. they were busy but not busy enough to avoid taking me and b's order for a good 20 minutes .. then it took about 15-20 minutes just to get our food. made me sad and partly a reason why i don't want to come back. fail on the service.

Amazing place for a good meal! We came here for breakfast time and time again while staying in Forest Grove. I had the lobster benedict and it was absolutely delicious. My kids loved the pancakes! The coffee was wonderful and inviting coming in from the morning cold and everything we had was exquisite! It's been almost a year since we've been in Oregon and I'm STILL craving Elmer's! Fresh and wonderful comfort food and every staff member we encountered was friendly and very attentive. Can't wait to get back there in just a few more weeks! Yum!

Elmer's is a great locally owned family resturant. It is packed on Sundays. There is nothing complicated just ol' fashioned tasty vittles to bring joy to your belly. I would recommend the potato cakes for uber belly satisfaction or if you are in dire need of a sugar rush the infamous dutch baby.

French toast is good, from thick cut toast. Hash browns are excellent; you can order them with extras like onions, bell peppers, & cheese, and it seems really fresh. The breakfast burrito is huge with avocado and sour cream. It took a very long time to get the food and the place was nearly empty. Update 3/18/11: Went to the SW Adams location this time and had the Crab Cake Benedict Skillet. It's $11.99 and huge. Three meals for me. There are two crab cakes that are ok, with not enough "hollandaise" sauce, but the scrambled eggs and hashbrowns underneath were decent. Biscuit was good, but it's hard to screw up a regular biscuit. The food was a little slow to come out, like the other location, and the waitress wasn't that friendly, though kept our glasses full. The Dutch Baby was good, very big; doesn't need the syrup they serve along side.

I have to admit, I really love this place. I generally go there for breakfast Saturday morning ~ it's a bit of a ritual at this point. Service: Wonderful. Friendly. Fast. In this day and age of anonymity and hustle, it's just a rare treat to come into a restaurant and find friendly, chatty people. When I want to chat, they know and are friendly. When I have my nose stuck in my iPhone, food and coffee come quickly and quietly. I've never had to wait for my bill or the change. Food: The food is.. good. Not great. But very good. I tend to get eggs benedict (my passion) and they do a respectable job. The hollandaise is standard issue and I rather wish the canadian bacon wasn't so thick (hard to enjoy). My real complaint is actually the hash browns. By way of full disclosure, I'm not a hash brown fan - prefer diced potatoes - but there is something particularly "icky" about theirs. If not for the hashbrowns, I would go for five stars. Prices: Very reasonable.

  • Debbie T.

Nice place, I had eggs and hushbrowns with added peppers and onions that the server suggested. Very good. Food was a little slow, but the server kept bringing us water. I saw that they have a "light menu" that people of all ages can order. I would go back.

At first I thought this place was another Denny's but when they start serving you, it's a whole different story. Everyone is all smiles and waiting to serve you. The food itself was wonderful. My girlfriend and I had the banana walnut pancakes and country fried steak both cooked to perfection. I love my breakfast and this is the place that I will be going back for more.

Hey who would have thunk it? A place that looks suspiciously like Denny's but tastes SO MUCH BETTER! And I have not broken my rule of waiting and reviewing a place after I've eaten there more than once. I've now been here at least 10 times, and I can't wait to go back. We go to breakfast at least 4 times a month, and half of that is here. They are, in many ways, better than Hales down the road a couple of miles. The first time we visited it was around 6:45 in the morning as we were heading out of town. And they were hoppin and ready for us. The coffee ain't bad. It's not French Roast, but not bad. The first half point off is for the coffee. But they come around with a big pitcher of orange juice, and for ONE DOLLAR you can get a glass as soon as you sit down. This is a very good thing. And it's tasty! Got pulp! Then - checking the menu items - you grow excited! They have DUTCH BABIES! Fluffy, perfectly cooked, served right with lemon and powdered sugar, and of course syrup and butter if you want! They have hazelnut pancakes, thick and dense! They have potato pancakes with bacon and applesauce - these are the BEST potato pancakes outside of the Beach Dog in Lincoln City. They are two beautiful disks of crispy, fresh tasting, bacon-and-green-onion-and-cheese-filled lovelies that delight your mouth with every next bite. They are served with a nice big blob of sour cream! OMG i can't wait to go back for them. They are my new discovery there. They have an omelet with a name about the Sun (The Sun Also Rises?) and it is SO GOOD - have you ever had chipotle bacon? Me neither, but you have got to try it! Hot bacon, yes. And the avo in there, with the cheese, it's a joy to eat this omelet. The egg shell is thin and therefore not overcooked. The stuff in the middle is hot. The portions are big but not so big -perfect. Hash browns, neh. Okay, nothing special. The first time I got them I saw they had some that said "seasoned" on the menu. So I got them, thinking they had some sort of, er, well, SEASONING??? No. so I asked the waitress, what is the seasoning on these 'seasoned' hashed browns. She came back and said, salt and pepper! Haha. But they are fine - hot and sometimes crisp and sometimes not as crisp. I think they use all their potato mo-jo for the potato pancakes, again, a must-get. They have the chicken apple sausage that became so popular along with the regular links. That stuff is very good, surprisingly so. I might get it next time, though hard to sway me from regular. There are tons of other menu items, and you can find their menu online, so go check it out, and check out the staff too. They are the most pleasant, happy bunch who seem to love their jobs and they all have good experience and know the routine. I'm a huge fan. JT's verdict? GO GO GO run make haste and get the potato pancakes and/or the Dutch babies for sure. And do check out their new family-style meals, with ginormous casseroles they serve at dinner for a good price. Pot pies too!

We would come here for the food but all things must come to an end. Today's visit was the last straw, the waitress was super nice but the food was awful, ordered a bumper shoot burger that has sautéed mushrooms, they came out raw, we sent it back just to get almost the same thing raw mushrooms way to much onion and what felt like microwaved French frys, the nice waitress asked if she could she could replace the meal but by the time this was done my girlfriend was almost done eating her meal..

This place is good for you average family morning breakfast if you don't want to make a far drive to places like Petite Provence. Typical family style breakfast. The room was decorated with fake flowers, except the bathroom had fresh flowers (yah ...weird). The menu was plentiful but nothing worth remember. They tried making is unique with cinnamon french toast and baked pears, but these were overly sweat. They serve a bit more than just typical pancake, omelets, toasts, and eggs. I'll give Kudos for serving food with local organic. I especially enjoyed the healthy vegetable omelet since it was filled with local organic vegetables. So hooray for supporting our local farmers. Great things: Service and BACON!! Thick juicy bacon! Ok things: the menu and food, nothing major that stands out The bad: coffee that's not very hot. Overall, I would not go here on my own. If I was lazy and had no where else to go for breakfast,

This is a place I have been going to religiously since a was a wee boy. Elmer's has a menu very similar to that of a Denny's or IHOP, yet the food is of a much higher quality. The burgers are good, the pancakes, the bacon, the chicken, the fries and more are very good. I recommend the chocolate chip pancakes for children. This will give the children a huge sugar high and they'll crash just in time for you to have a romantic evening with your significant other ;) I prefer this Elmer's over the newer one near Cornell Rd. and Hwy 26. The Hillsboro Elmer's has the old architecture reminiscent of an old elks lodges. The new Elmer's looks cheap and boring like an IHOP.

My family and I are new to this area, so we are always on the look out for what might be our favorite places...so far, Elmer's is it for breakfast. We suspected it might be either really good (the parking lot was always full) or just terrible (at first glance its kind of run-down looking), but you never know until you try for yourself..... The menu was extensive and varied, and they try to showcase local ingredients- I would say its a more local Denny's or IHOP style restaurant, but you definitely get a more down-home neighborhood feel here. So far, everything we have tried for breakfast has been delicious & we always leave happy and FULL, wishing we had room for just one more bite! I absolutely love the potato cakes with a poached egg and we always get bacon because they do it just right- thick cut and cooked just perfectly. Another bonus is they DO have a liquor license, and if I had wanted to, I could have had a Bloody Mary (another lady had one, lucky!) or an Irish Coffee with my breakfast.... My only complaint is sometimes the breakfast service is not as attentive as we would like and sometimes the floors are a bit messy......its okay to be a little more 'downhome', but cleanliness should never be negotiable! And, *surprise* !! We have also came in for dinner once with all the kids (its very family friendly!) and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food, even better than at some other more upscale places we have tried for dinner......soup, salad, and even prime-rib were spot-on, and I am VERY picky.....who knew?? Good for you, Elmers! The only reason we probably won't do dinner here is we don't take the kids out for dinner much and the atmosphere really isn't great for a dinner date with the hubby......

My boyfriend and I come here every once and while for breakfast and bloody Mary's. Sanoma and Salvador make the best bloody Mary's, seriously the best I've ever had! Not only are the drinks great, the service is wonderful and after we order we receive our meal in minutes. Sanoma and Salvador have such amazing personalities and it makes the experience even better. We will continue to come to this Elmer's :)

We are visiting from Santa Cruz, CA and staying at the Hilton in Beaverton, OR. We found this place on YELP and very grateful we did. Staff is very friendly and food is DELICIOUS! We went back for seconds and third's. You will NOT regret eating at Elmer's.

Whats not to love about this place. Over all the years I have come here I have only had a handful of bad expereinces. This is usually because of poor service though and never because of the quality of the food served here. I agree with some reviewers on here when it comes to the wait on some things. But then again what do you expect with such a popular place sometimes it just takes a while when it comes to a Sunday morning breakfast so have some patience and if your food is mediocre then send it back. Overall still a great place to go when it comes to a early morning or late breakfast.

Elmer's is your typical family restruant. It sort of has an old time fell of a diner where you walk in and everyone knows your name, but the fell just doesn;t get on since the size is quite large and no "bar" seating. Go in on any typical morning and you'll find a lot of seniors, some middle age people and maybe a group of kids on a "trip" This review is for the breakfast since thats all I've had there. Menu has decent choices. Hashbrowns seem to be made fresh (including the chopping and shredding of FRESH potatoes. Eggs are blah (I'm used to making my scrambled eggs with a little bit of milk and cheese and whipping them so they become nice and fluffy not hard and rubbery) Decent selection on drinks. They have a Cappchino but I'm sure its an instant one. After years of complaints they finnaly got around to fixing the north walkway that lifted up causing a lot of trips. In the end if you want a "real" breakfast come to elmers. If you want a real breakfast (notice no quotes) then fix it at home.

There were no utensils on the table, even after we had our food. The prices were fair. The interior was blah (blah, blah, blah) and the breakfast burrito was boring. The service was just OK, nothing to pen a postcard home about however; the berry dutch baby was absolutely delish (extra star) and it was huge. Summary: go here with a big group or a hangover.

Before going there, I read great reviews on Yelp especially about the service but I was very disappointed. Even though the place was not crowded around 12.30 pm on Saturday, the service was very slow. We were unable to get refills for our drinks because the server never came back.

My husband and I like to go once a week for breakfast. It's huge servings and reasonably priced. The service is STELLAR! We usually have the same servers on our weekend breakfast date and they are always so nice and professional.

This would have been a 3 star review, as the food was OK, the ambiance OK etc. BUT here's what killed the whole deal. After my wife and I got served, we ate, then waited for our dessert which was included in the special. And we waited, and we waited. for literally 30 minutes we sat there in amazement while our waitress BSed with some friends of hers who came in. Normally we would have spoken up, but we just got entranced, as to how long it would take for our presence as mere mortals to be acknowledged. My wife was a waitress in a fisherman's bar for 12 years, I leave the tip amount etc up to her. As you can guess this was a big fat zero. Finally the waitress strolls over and says "Do you want your dessert now, or would you like to take it home?" I told her to keep it (never know if that is going to come with spit in it), and just bring us our check. I turned in a customer survey card detailing the problem, but I guess those are used to line someones bird cage, as I never heard back in any way. If I were starving and this were the only place open, I'd wait. Not ever going to go back.

This is a perfect example of why you go out to eat: Service!!!! The food here is pretty decent for breakfast, with the normal fare of skillets, omelets, and pancakes. You can get food made with egg whites or egg substitute. The coffee is just OK. Nothing with the food really stands out. In fact, I would say that I would not come here for dinner, as I have in the past. But the service! The manager of this restaurant must be doing something right. Attentive, friendly, helpful. So many restaurants seem to miss the boat when it comes to service, and this place hits it on the head. I wish more places in Portland would pull their heads out of there collective hipster arses and work on their customer service skills or find work elsewhere. When I worked at a restaurant many years ago, my boss told me that people can make their own food; however, people go out to get served. Give them great service and they will want to come back. Elmers gets it.

Have been to this location several times and stopped by there on our way to the beach on Sunday (Father's Day). So glad we got there when we did because there was a large line waiting to get a seat when we left. There is nothing terrible special about the food or atmosphere here - pretty typical breakfast fare. The service was quick and efficient and everyone was very friendly. I'm sure we'll be back once in a while.

Dutch baby. Yum. I give it 4 stars because I think they are doing a good job at delivering on what their customers expect, and sometimes a bit more. I like the egg white omelet and am happy with their lighter menu options. In fact, they have a 55+ menu that is actually open for anyone to order that wants a smaller portion size. I think this is a great idea especially for the 'little people' (insert Irish accent) like me. Most of everything else I have had, such as hashbrowns, sausage and whatnot, are a little better than you would expect from a place like this. I have even had them ask me if I prefer my bacon crispy or not. How many places have ever asked you that? I have been here too many times really to remember since they are pretty close by. I have stopped bothering for dinner because it degrades into your usual cooked from frozen style stuff. If I were to rate it based on dinner it would definitely lose a star. But for breakfast, they do a good enough job. Summary: Friendly service, decent food, typically horrid diner decor and a fairly short wait during weekend busy breakfast hours.

Elmer's has become my favorite pacific northwest breakfast location. Love just about everything there. That tillamook cheese. And those German style pancakes are amazing.

Overall: hearty food, dated decor, good service. I had Eggs Benedict. Tasteless and needed something to give it that wow factor. The decor hasn't changed in who knows how many years. Dark, dingy. The menu has tons of options however and I'm sure there is something for every appetite. Servers were friendly.
