" Unique Restaurant with Friendly Service with Huge Portions " My wife and some friends went to Hales Restaurant & Lounge in Hermiston, Oregon a few weeks ago and had a great unique experience. The servers were very nice, and the amount of food that came out of the kitchen was massive ! The Salads were so huge that my wife had a half of one, and could not finish it. The Onion Rings were Delicious, and there was enough on the plate for 4 people to have. The Strawberry short cake dessert was huge and very tasty ! Hales also has a nice bar lounge in the back of the restaurant with some Oregon state lottery slot machines, you can play. Check it out, it is Unique !

The food is plentiful but lacked a very important ingredient: Taste. The food was very average. Not bad, but way over priced and the decor is outdated. Would expect higher quality food to match the price. And if you use a card to pay you will be charged an extra dollar. So have cash.

Huge portions. Steak had no flavor! Mashed potatoes were cold. Veggies weren't very good either. Service was good.

They serve huge portions here but the execution of doing so takes some quality away. It's not bad food its average. I you really want to have a good time eat in the bar and try there drinks. Great service

Huge portions and food was good, but slow service knocked off a few stars. Our server took our drink orders and it took nearly ten minutes to get two iced teas, about a 30 minute wait for our meal order, then another 10 for the condiments. Friendly staff, but they need to work on their attentiveness and attention to detail.

I used to frequent hales alot for dining, now as far as good food goes in hermiston oregon, hales is about the best you can find. they have very good food, at a reasonable price and thier portions are huge. granted i wouldnt eat there everyday i always thought hales provided a great meal at a decent price. That was in fact the last time i had steak when eating out. and it was cooked to perfection, well worth it.

I had a 6 egg omelet! The amount of food is massive... But nothing spectacular flavor wise... But if your hungry and want diner food with the mist bang for your buck... I'd recommend this place!

Updating. It may have been our timing, and who was on staff. The first few times we have been here it was excellent. The last 2 times were horrible. Horrible service, horrible food. But have had a few good burgers at this restaurant.

Horrible slow service. Went 3 different times. Each time wad worse than the last. They charged us for a tip that we didn't agree to either! Food was not good for the Prices we were paying. Avoid!

I really want to like Hale's...but I can't. They give you huge portions, but I rather have small portions with better quality food. I'm sorry but frozen veggies warmed up, isn't something I go out and pay for at a restaurant. On a positive note, the staff were really nice!

Once again Hales served a delicious, to large to eat in one sitting, meal. Our hostess and waitress were both so nice and ...... Lovely. ... Yes, they were lovely young ladies. I have recommended Hales to so many people. It is one of our favorites in NE Oregon. There was just one thing that did not settle well and that was they charge extra if you want to use your debit card. This has the potential to make them lose customers.

Passing through Hermiston I was craving a pulled pork sandwich and thought this place, that specializes in BBQ would have one, but to my surprise it didn't. I ended up settling on a much healthier choice, cream of asparagus soup and salad. The portion was decent, although the meal itself was nothing special. Perhaps next time I will go for one of their many sandwiches/burgers and be impressed. Until then, besides the friendly hospitality this place was average.

I walked in expecting good things from what I had heard, supposedly the best place to eat in Hermiston. WRONG! We walked in and it was busy, and the service was decent for how busy it was. The decor is funky and there is so many exposed views of the kitchen it's just not appealing. When the food arrived it was not the taste I expected from a chicken caeser wrap, but the plate was filled to the T with fries. Just so so, and my girlfriend agreed that her meal wasn't what she had hoped out of a salad. I would just recommend moving on to the next town if this is top shelf in this community. Pendleton or Tri-Cities are great options.

i must comment on this small town gem. My Dude and i were visiting a friend in a nearby town and was brought here for dinner. Not knowing what to expect (from the outside it just looks like a local watering hole-which it is, but SO much more as well), we were stunned upon receiving our humongous plates! Whiskeytangofoxtrot, are we back in Texas? Not only were the portions hungry man sized...get this, it tasted absolutely delicious. wOw, i haven't been this in lust with a restaurant in quite a bit. While we three were selfishly engaged in savoring our own food we paused and took turns proclaiming "No, try this...seriously". The best dish being our friends (i Will go back and have my own dagnabbit)-he ordered the Prime Rib. Ohemgee taste bud orgy time! It was the most tender, juicy, flavorful steak i have ever consumed. Pair this with the au jus and oh...the tb orgy just died and went to tb heaven. The second was Mr. Jena's-he ordered the NY Strip which was cooked to perfection as well and with him not being a huge fan of veggies, his steak's date were the crinkled fries from France. And lastly, i had the pasta-i swear this dish weighed 3lbs. After i put my sorry excuse for a dent in it, alas, i must still resort to requesting a large to go container. My dish's partner was steamed veggies which were neither under nor over cooked... If i gleaned correctly, you could either dine in the front where the actual fancy part is or choose to dine in the back dive bar, but both areas use the same menu. I would opt for the front. As entertaining as it is to hear the town folk & hussy get "schwasted", after a while it tends to grate on ones' nerves. But hey, it's kind of special that it's possible to eat classy amidst trashy ain't it?

Hales was highly recommended by several people and we made plans to go here with friends. I as usual checked the reviews and started to worry if I was making the right decision (after reading reviews about food poisoning). As you can see from the 4 star rating I was quite happy with the food. I ordered Country pork (with fries) after searching the 5 page menu for what seemed like forever. Both of the guys ordered steaks. We were all quite happy with our dinner. We all thought the cuts were good as was the taste. The servings were HUGE and all three of us ended up with take out boxes. The service was good as they weren't that busy. However the waitress/bartender did spend a lot of time talking with friends and it did take several minutes to get her attention for another drink. I ordered a house whiskey with coke and I would say it had more whiskey than coke in it and it wasn't the best whiskey (many places I've been around here the house whiskey actually has good flavor)

Stay away. Mountains of inedible food. Waitstaff seemed unfamiliar with the basic routines of a restaurant.

HUGE PORTIONS!! Had the Chef burger and it was a delicious greasy meal. It came with what I'm guessing was an entire fryer basket of French fries. Their onion rings are also tasty!

Hale's is a slice of Western Americana. Located in a building that has 1905 chiseled on its face, it is a well-worn Tavern. Decor ranges from early Goodwill, to 40's and 50's antiques. With booth dividers made from rough sawn SPF (Spruce, Pine, Fir) and a mural depicting local cowboys and cow girls, the location of the rodeo they were in, the event they won, and the horse they rode in on. You are more likely to see this Tavern on Restaurant Impossible than Triple D and Robert Irvine or Gordon Ramsay would not approve of the page after page after page of menu items or the condition of the kitchen. But, this is a Tavern in a small western town. If it were not for Sysco or FSA, places like this would have a tough time serving anything year-round. If you want a romantic date dinner and an aged and cooked to perfection rib eye - go to John Howie's. If you want a cold beer, a burger, and huge pile of crinkle-cut fries with classic fry sauce all at a reasonable price, come to Hale's.

Saturday nights are either very understaffed or we were just there on an abnormally busy dinner shift. Waitress was stretched way to thin for our liking. At least our steaks were good, although the mashed potatoes didn't seem homemade. Bread and special butter blend are delish. My friend and I ordered a drink from the bar and it tasted like pure alcohol (some people might prefer this, but I like my fruit with a little alcohol) After looking up the recipe online for our drinks on our smartphones, we informed the waitress that it didn't appear to have much sugary syrup/mix in it; she then picked up a sugar packet from the center display on our table and offered it to us. She did offer us some Sprite soda and it actually made the drink decent, but I'm pretty sure our bill reflected a mixed drink not a 1/2 can of sprite and a wedge of lemon. Next time, I'll make sure to avoid peak dinner times and steer clear of the bar drinks. Don't give up on Hales. I have a feeling our experience wasn't the norm.

Hale's Tavern is a wretched abomination of God if not a horrific portal to hell. Our first experience was even sub-par for a Truck Stop with a barely palatable rib-eye served on a plastic plate with paper napkins and utensils as thin and flimsy as tin cans; the pasta sauce was obviously out of a jar and would be put to better use as caulking material or any other sort of adhesive paste for that matter. The servers were all coasting on auto-pilot, repeating catch phrases in a deadpan, monotonous tone like sleep-walking zombies completely void of any vigor or verve...they clearly couldn't care less. Our second experience was a total nightmare. Though understandably busy due to the neighboring town's annual rodeo extravaganza, most restaurants have the good sense to actually capitalize on high volume and turn it up a notch. Sadly this very basic concept is totally foreign and abstract to the knuckle-draggers running this dumpy monstrosity called Hale's. My date ordered the spaghetti and meatballs that made her violently ill for days from food poisoning and when she finally returned to work to report her misfortune, she soon discovered that food poisoning is a regular occurrence and to be expected at this over-rated shanty. I was hoping to play it safe and chose the standard cheeseburger and fries, with a simple request to cook the burger medium rare. The fries were obviously from Sysco and the meat was a dry, charred strip of leather (or some kind of other animal hide, most likely road kill if I had to guess). How does a restaurant that specializes in meat magically botch a cheeseburger and fries exactly? How is it even possible? I've had far better fare in hospital cafeterias and on airplanes in third-world countries. Not only is Hale's Tavern completely disgusting, but ridiculously over-priced. I suppose they can easily fleece the unsuspecting geezers and churlish bumpkins that seem to scarf it all down without even flinching. $100 dates aren't supposed to leave a bad taste in your mouth, give you indigestion let alone bring you to wrap your arms around the porcelain bowl once you get home. One would think, one would hope that there could at least be a proper steakhouse in this region, considering the ranches for as far as the eye can see. If you're seeking massive disappointment and digestive problems, be my guest....Hale's Tavern is the perfect place for you!

Great food, good quality, huge portions, friendly employees. We're in town for five days, been there twice and will go the next three. I will order something different each time and I can already tell that will not be a mistake. Very fair prices for the quality and quantity of food prepared. They do need to add a waitress to the bar to help the bartender, the poor girl was way too busy to do it all by herself.
