Establishments like this make half-stars necessary for Yelp ratings. The Buoy 9 is more of a 2.5 star place, as it doesn't really deserve a lower 2 rating and a 3 star is almost a wee bit too generous. I suppose when you make a huge killing off of drunk fishermen and people who "rough it" by dragging their gazillion foot RV towing their SUV and motorcycles with their satellite TV dish for optimal entertainment reception, you don't have to really care too much about repeat customers based upon service and food quality, as they will come back every year anyway. For us locals (hey remember us, the ones that support you in the slow winter months when you are sitting in an empty building fiddling around on your smart phone earning your minimum wage?), we are a bit more picky. Not picky in the obnoxious sense, but picky in the "we are paying good money and wanting decent service and quality food" thus we want more than Costco food served by unmotivated servers. Your prices are not really in line with the quality and service standards that you offer. After 2 visits now, enduring inconsistent par-quality food at a high price with sterile to almost hostile service, we will leave your establishment to be supported by the tourist trade and the local bar trolls with Lotto Fever and bad livers. Sad state of affairs, as a few adjustments could really make this a great spot to dine at on a regular basis.

The clam chowder is hearty and tasty. Also good are the burgers and fish and chips.

Only getting a 4 because of the three times I've been there we had not so good service on one of the occasions. They missed the 5 by...that much. Anyways the place is interesting and you might get stared at by a local or two. This tends to be a local hang out bar. Not cute inside but has a strange comfortable feel. Maybe from the wood siding and fire place. Isn't a place to go with kids, but for those who drink it's cool. The french dip sandwich is really good. The oyster shooters are also really good. The beer isn't that cheap though nor are the mixed drinks even though it has the cheap drink vibe.

BEST Clam Chowder on the Oregon coast! Just drove up Hwy 1/101 from SF, sampling chowders along the way. Had watery, thick and pasty, too much celery, where's the clams?, lukewarm, etc, and it was SO nice to "come home" to my favorite clam chowder. Thick, creamy, full of clams, just the right amount of bacon, red potatoes...heaven! Also tried the crab cakes for the first time and found them amazing. If you're into east coast crab cakes you may not care for these, cos there doesn't seem to be any Old Bay (aka celery salt) in them. (I hate celery salt, and do not use Old Bay in any of my seafood. I want to taste the SEAFOOD!) My friend loved the fresh Chinook salmon steak, and they make great tarter sauce. Ribs! Ordered ribs, too, as they always run out quickly, but I was stuffed after the crab cakes & clam chowder so only had a couple of bites. Looking forward to eating them for dinner tonight, and now I know why they always run out!

It's been awhile, but we stopped for lunch. We were in sticker shock. $18 for 3 piece halibut, sandwiches that are nearly $10 with a $2 extra charge for French fries... Seriously people? We split the meat loaf sandwich. The meatloaf is a quarter of the thickness it once was. So disappointed. The food is still good, but we feel it's now over priced. Gouge the tourists, not the locals. We probably won't be back.

We've eaten fish & chips all over the world. High end, low end and everything in between. Never found better halibut fish. & chips anywhere. Prime rib is great, but you can get that pretty much anywhere. Their chowder and seafood is always fresh and delicious. Not a fancy place but great Clatsop County color. Hammond Boat basin is as picturesque as it gets too. Be sure and go out to the point beyond the boat basin for the view!

Stopped here on a lark. Had the calamari, French dip and cod. It was pretty pricey for the ambiance. $8 for 8pcs calamari. The French dip and onion rings were excellent. The cod was laying on a bed of oil :( I was pretty disappointed with the cod as I specifically asked our waitress if the breading was greasy and she assured me it wasn't. It took two napkins to squeeze out the grease. Wouldn't eat here again unless it was for the french dip and onion rings. The staff was really nice.

Good local restaurant for steak, good fries, nice staff. Wifi. Good value.

Fresh, local seafood at great prices, awesome prime rib, and a comfy feel! If you're from out of town (like me), this is a great local gem you should check out! I try and stop by whenever I'm in the area.

Went here with my cousin to watch the Seahawks. Expected to have a good time based on previous experiences. We were about the only table, now I understand why. Awful service from the 2 servers. Both were sullen, ignored us when we were begging for refills. We left at halftime after chasing them down for the bill. Never again.

Went on Friday night, hubby had prime rib, he likes to med, got rare! Server just said "oh sorry"! There was no seasoning on it, very bland. Me sautéed shrimp were huge but way over cooked. House wine prices were great! But won't go back again. Total waste of money.

Good atmosphere and good food! My wife and I had fish and chips. She had cod, while I had halibut. Both were lightly battered and not oily. The fries were real potatoes and tasty! The oil that was there was not old or off tasting. It was like eating at the neighborhood bar and grill only we didn't know anybody. The food was great! We'll definitely be back!

Great food, huge portions. I split the fish and chips and a bowl of their fabulous clam chowder. Our friends had the soup, salad, bread combo and the meatloaf sandwich. All of our meals were delicious and fresh. Great local flavor and excellent people watching. Beach folk are awesome.

Always a solid place. Its a small town locals bar and not a whole lot of atmosphere, but the food and portions are terrific. Love their sautéed mussels and their bucket of clams. In each case you get about double what you get at some other local places. Their prime rib is super too but its the seafood that's best there

This place is awesome if you like $9.00 cheeseburgers and deep fried frozen starters. Not sure how old the deep fryer oil is but you can count on a healthy dose of the trots with what ever you get. They promote themselves as a seafood restaurant but you'd get better and much healthier seafood from the frozen food section at a discount grocery store. I ordered the halibut steak and by some miracle of cooking wizardry it was presented in about 5 minutes. It was inedible. It had to have been cooked long before I got there then reheated in the microwave then browned in a skillet. The staff are surly and will argue with you when you try to send something back. They seem sure that as a customer you are going to place more value on their opinion than your own. Absolute worst dining experience ever. Nasty

This restaurant has become something of an institution. It serves local fishermen who sail from the Hammond boat basin. Its bar serves drinkers and gamblers from the area not to mention campers at the Fort Stevens campgrounds. There are decent sandwiches and salads and red meat entrees. We enjoy the seafood. We heard a customer ask a waitress which seafood wasn't frozen. She informed him Buoy 9 doesn't serve fish that has bern frozen. Wine list isn't great. Beer list not bad. Service usually good.

Good food and good staff. Stopped in here for some food following a day of salmon fishing and it was just what was needed. Great burgers and good selection of appetizers. The beer was cold and the waitress was friendly. Would go back here again for sure.

If you are looking for a great place to eat breakfast on a Sunday morning. Bouy 9 is the place for you. You get get great food at a great price! And if you want a Bloody Mary that's available too. Weekend specials include things like Crab eggs Benedict. They don't scrimp on the Crab either! Don't expect a rose vase and linen at your table but you can expect prompt courteous service that will make you happy to leave a tip.

Absolutely horrible, in all aspects! First, the server seemed clueless. Didn't get our drink order right, told her and she still screwed it up. We wanted to share clam strips with everyone and the server recommended the entree not the app. Because it was bigger. If the entree was bigger then I'd hate to know the size of app. It was like a 1/4 cup and mostly fries. Horrible recommendation on her part. Everyone got the clam chowder and I must say it was super bland and disappointing. The bill came to $66 I was in total shock. Waist of time, money and appetite. Over priced and not worth the trip.

Someone roll me out of here cause I've eaten a huge bowl of one of the best clam chowder's on the Oregon coast! Every spoon full had a big, juicy, fresh clam(not bits of clam, not baby canned clams!) swimming in a buttery, rich, New England style chowder. But wait, there's more! Two pounds of steamers!! Two pounds for $20! You can't get that in Vegas!! And talk about fresh from the ocean! They had been harvested that morning! Steamed and served with butter, lemon, and garlic toast. I sopped up the clam liquor with the bread! When I come back to visit, I'm coming back to Buoy 9!

Cozy atmosphere and good service, but subpar food. The restaurant is on the smaller size, with a wall separating from the bar/lounge area, with fishing themed decor. Menu is typical seafood/American, with seafood dishes, pasta, burger, sandwiches, etc. Unfortunately the menu did not have any descriptions and when asked about the "buoy burger", all the server could offer is that it was very big and probably has ham. Prices were higher than expected for this kind of restaurant, e.g. extra $2 to add fries with your burger or sandwich. Nothing really stood out to me on the menu, so I went with a small portion of chicken tenders and fries ($9). Large amount of food that included four pieces of chicken on the small side, lots of fries, piece of buttery bread, and side of cole slaw. The chicken looked like fried fish, with a thick bread-y breading that was on the greasy side. Fries were okay, cole slaw too saucy for my liking. I tried a spoonful of clam chowder, which was very thick and had nice tender potato chunks. My companion had the seafood fetticini ($25), which appeared to have a good amount of fish, shrimp, and scallops....but was drowning in massive amounts of sauce. Like I've never seen so much sauce in a pasta dish before. Big pieces of shrimp, but not completely cleaned out. Servers were friendly and checked in throughout the meal, no wait to order/get drinks refilled/pay bill, and food and additional condiments came out quickly. Apparently you can play lotto during your meal because there's lotto tickets at the table (the kind where you fill in the numbers).

Headed to Buoy 9 after a long, exciting day of fishing. Five in our party: one who's been here many times, and four of us who hadn't yet. We all had fish & chips. The server was friendly and prompt, she kept our beers and waters fresh. The food was delicious, no one had leftovers. The price was fair. We sat on the outside deck talking and laughing, as were all the other diners on the deck. Perfect end to a great day! We will definitely be back before the season ends.

My buddies and I search for the best breakfast on the north coast and have discovered that breakfast at buoy 9 has taken first place. We will continue to "test" them to be sure they keep there #1 position. The only drawback is that breakfast is only served on weekends.

What a gem just outside of Astoria. Excellent food (had the blackened Cajun chicken sandwich). Friendly staff, very relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Nostalgia at it's best. Used to come here with my grandparents so many years ago for the crab louie. Came back 20 years later in honor of my grandparents and the food was great, service friendly and nice small town feel for me being an LA hipster.

Stopped by after Salmon Fishing for some food and beer... Did not know what I was getting into... But it turned out to be "Local Favorite" hangout. I had the burger which was just fine, but it is hard to mess up a burger... But my fishing buddy had the fish & chips, and said it was very good. The beer was cold and the service was good... It is a good place to hang your hat for a spell! Enjoy, WEST-MORRIS

Dang it!!! Soooo upsetting Even Prime Rib now is so bad bland, reheated 55.90 for 2 orders to go of reg cut prime rib No butter or sour cream given. The juice of meat is normally flavored, it was just meat juice. Until they fix whatever got broken chef, prices, etc.... I can't recommend or go there any longer!!!! So worried about the direction of a place I use to eat lunch, dinner at least 3 times a week!

Both Buoy 9 is half restaurant, with the other half being a full bar. That said I was immediately turned off upon entering with the foul odor. This place could really use a good cleaning and it's probably way past time for an updated remodel. The food choices were varied between typical bar fare and fried seafood selections. Prices were high for portion size, and substitutions are not offered. Like other reviewers noted server attitude can be a little surly and our server has clearly perfected the ability to walk into the dining area while avoiding eye contact with tables she should be serving. Left after waiting for a drink refill for 15 minutes.

I went in for lunch . I got the 2 piece fish and chips and a cup of clam chowder . Both were really good . The fish came out hot and well cooked . I really liked the clam chowder . I even got some to go to eat later . The waiter was nice and helpful . I will go back .

Wait- this was meant for Buoy Brewing, but i can't seem to delete this...Deeelish beers, fab fish n chips, and a view that can't be beat. A little on the pricey side, but worth it.

Only been here once but from my first impression its a cozy little dive bar with a great staff.

We have been here a few times. Food has been consistently good. Prime rib was awesome! My son said it was the best garlic bread he ever had.

Went and had dinner at about 6:30pm Tuesday August 14th and the service was great. Everything was brought to us very quickly and the staff was super friendly. The food on the other hand wasnt all that great. I would have prefered to wait an extra 10 to 20 minutes for food prepared right then what we got. The food was ok but has the potential for greatness. Ordered the prime rib rare. It came to the table and first off the meat was clearly not seasoned with salt and pepper before being cooked. The meat was barely pink so was over done and kind of tough. The salads we had with dinner had a pool of water under them. Also ordered the chicken parm. The chicken was so over cooked it was hard to cut, chew and swallow. It was drowned in sauce which wasnt a nice way to try to put moisture back in the dish. The burgers we ordered for the kids were over cooked slightly and dry. It was an ok meal but I expected more. All the components are there for greatness. The kitchen staff needs to slow down and cook the food right instead of being such a hurry to put out the food fast do it right. We still had a good experience but probably wont order items off the menu if we ever return to Bouy 9.
