Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Whenever we are craving mexican food this is where we go. The food is always good. Free chips salsa. Great drinks. The only thing is if u sit in the bar area its not as good of service as sitting in the restaurant area but its just cause the bartender is doing two jobs. Still well worth the food. I always get chicken and steak fajitas its my favorite. Food always tastes fresh as is the salsa and chips are usually warm when they come out. Yummy it is my fav place around gresham for Mexican food.

Love it. Fantastic value. Great service and food. Drinks are worth every penny, and specials are the great.

I grew up in Gresham and La Carreta was a huge part of my childhood. I'd go here for celebrations, after football games in high school and for dinner with mom after a long day of shopping. Their combinations are an incredible deal. Pretty much everything comes with rice and beans. Their beans with the melted cheese on top are incredible! Their salsa is also very fresh. Portions are huge and you get your money's worth. They have a grande margarita that is HUGE and perfect to share (or keep for yourself if you want to be tipsy). It can get very loud on the weekends when it's packed and they have a mariachi. On those nights it's best to skip the headache and just get it to go.

Do not go here. Oh my god. My husband and I spent $42 on the two of us last night and it is certainly one of the most regretted experiences. Holy Jesus. We ate outside. That wasn't too bad. I ordered the taco salad with shrimp and the husband got a shrimp dish... I can't remember what it was called... and we each got a Patron margarita. That was it. $42. Nope. The salad was gross. A deep-fried, flavorless tortilla on a bed of warm, shredded iceberg lettuce, filled with more iceberg lettuce, topped with an ungodly amount of shredded cheddar, sour cream, and bland guacamole. I broke the tortilla and found the shrimp in the bottom. Heat rises people. Not good. I ate the shrimp and then stuck with the chips and salsa. My drink was warm, so I didn't even finish that. My husband didn't not like his dish, but also didn't really like it. It came with tortillas so you could make your own tacos. They said it came with flour tortillas, and it actually came with white corn tortillas. Dude. You should really know the difference between tortilla types. This is a Mexican restaurant. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else.

I have such fond memories of this place, eating lunch with my mom and getting the free dessert (I don't know if they still do that) and getting plastered over drinks with friends. Yes it's pretty much American-Mexican but they do a fantastic job! My favorite is the chicken tacos, burritos and the fajitas. They have really tasty rice, fresh chips and a nice kick in their salsa. The atmosphere is something I've always enjoyed with the colorful tiles and the murals. I hadn't been back in years but after a late night with mom, I realized we'd be passing by here so we decided to get take out, mind you our destination was Sandy. We both ordered combination plates and I was willing to risk getting tacos. We got to our destination and the food was still hot and JeeWiz they put my tacos in double shells so they wouldn't get soggy! Just the best ever. I hadn't been back here in years and the risk of ordering take out and then driving a good twenty minutes, the highlights of the meal were just what I remembered and exactly what I was craving. Kudos!

This place is very popular, there are often quite a few cars in the parking lot. So I had high expectations. It was OK. It is an older building, but kind of a "traditional" american Mexican place with some decorations on the walls and whatnot. I've also ordered takeout a few times. The Chicken Fajitas are very good. Other food was also OK. Probably not the best mexican I've ever had, but a good choice overall.
(3)Brian C.
Went there for lunch today and it was very disappointing. I ordered the fish combo "fish tacos", and they were horrible. The "fish" inside the taco was piping hot as if it had just come out of the microwave, had no taste at all, and the tacos were excessively SMOTHERED in their "white sauce" which tasted like thousand island dressing, but it was white. The service was good, but the food was not.. I have eaten here many times before and have always stuck with the staple Mexican food dishes, and the food has been fine.
(2)Angela W.
We love the Chips and salsa here. The service is always great as well. I'm giving them 3 stars because the food is hit or miss. I've had great enchiladas on more than one occasion, but I've had not so great ones too. So, I would give them a go if you've never been there. When their good, they're very good and you're always greeted with a smile.
(3)Jeff Y.
Excellent Mexican food! Authentic, ambient, affordable, and family friendly. Great service. Friendly and attentive staff. Unfortunately, the seats need refurbishment or replacement. That's my only gripe. I knew about this little gem long ago, but was reassured when my Mexican friends reaffirmed the authenticity and that they also frequent the restaurant. Go where the Mexicans go!
(4)Tayler B.
I have to give this place 5 stars because it's my favorite place for Mexican and I've been going here for years. The staff is really friendly and attentive They have the BEST salsa - it's chunky and has just a slight kick When you come for lunch you get an ice cream dessert included! Great drinks and daily drink specials The patio is really nice to have drinks during the summer Huge portions...you won't ever leave hungry If you're in Gresham and are feeling Mexican you should definitely drop in La Carreta!
(5)Nate C.
Went for a friend's daughters bday dinner on Cinco de Mayo. Given the obvious day it was weren't expecting anything amazing. But we were wrong. The service was excellent. Prompt and courteous. The food was good. Flavor and freshness was great. It arrived very fast and there were 10 in our party to boot! Prices were what you'd expect. Thank you staff at La Carreta!
(5)paul s.
Always good, love the margaritas. . Good portion size for the money. . Never had a bad time there
(4)Shonna B.
I read a lot a good reviews on this place so, I had high hopes. The guy at the register was the best part of my experience. He was helpful, funny, polite and quick. Decor was that of your average Mexican food restaurant, spacious and clean. Lunch special is a good price and nice selection to choose from. I got the chicken burrito. The tortilla chips were warm. Salsa was fresh. Beans & rice were standard; but my chicken burrito was really, really bland. I may try something else later since lunch service is super quick!

My boyfriend and I are Texas natives and moved to Portland from Vermont. We had horrible experiences with "Mexican" food in Vermont, and were worried when we came to Portland that we would experience the same problem. Luckily, we found happiness with La Carreta. There are some things that are a little perplexing, like trying to serve coleslaw with everything (maybe they thought that Texans eat everything with coleslaw??), but most everything is good and satiates our cravings for Tex Mex. I love that they have crunchy ground beef tacos, which was unheard of in Vermont...but an oh-so Tex Mex thing. Their portions are HUGE (maybe another stereotype "everything's bigger in Texas" thing?)... their portions are even bigger than usual dishes in Texas. We go to La Carreta at least twice a month. I usually get a ground beef taco and cheese enchilada combo with rice and beans and have always enjoyed my meal, and I have leftovers for days. I just always opt out of getting the coleslaw and get extra rice (no up charge...and because coleslaw and Mexican food is just weird...) . Combo platters are another Tex Mex style thing that you can't find anywhere in Vermont. My boyfriend has gotten the fajita platter and said it was delicious but was a little disappointed they only give you 2 tortillas and charge you if you want more. The first time we went we got the queso which was HUGE and yummy but a little on the thick side, it became a little annoying to try and eat it after it began to cool down, but we took it home and heated it up for days afterwards. In October, I brought my mom and sister who were visiting from Texas and they both liked it a lot, and the server was so nice he even brought us all out a free plate of sopapillas for us. My sister also asked for a mild salsa verde and the server brought us some, which I think they made special for us because I asked for it another time and they brought me super spicy salsa verde and sounded confused when I asked for mild (it was a different waiter...I really wish I could remember the waiter's name on that night my sister and mom came because he was super nice). At first I did not like the salsa but it has grown on me, although still not my favorite. I do like that it is fresh and has got a kick to it, and love cilantro, but could do without the tons of onions I have to pick through. Also, I've only had their house margarita but its just on the okay side. Overall, these two Texans are happy and will continue to return!
(4)Ali S.
BEST EVER. I love this place and anyone who says it a no go is insane lol. I'm from Texas and I think this food is excellent! The chips and salsa are insane and I love the service! Fairly priced and just amazing!
(5)Douglas W.
Best service in the industry. Fast, friendly and never mess up on orders. This place sets the standard for sit down Mexican restaurants. Strong drinks, but full of flavor. The bar tenders are like magicians with their mixology. They even finally started serving 1 or 2 local IPA's.
(5)Anna R.
I'm sorry but I love La Carreta. When you want a huge burrito covered in sauce and a large margarita, this is your place to go. And who doesn't love a Mexican place where they are constantly bringing you warm chips and salsa? Ah, the best. I usually get the chicken burrito and it is delish. And the ice cream they bring you at the end is a welcome addition. The happy hour deals are great as well. Let's admit it, it's not the most glamorous or quality place in the world but for some fattening Mexican food, its my go-to spot.
(5)Timothy Bryce W.
The restaurant is clean and visually appealing and the employees are very courteous but due to the food lacking ANY taste we will not return.
(1)Alicia N.
I took some friends here over the weekend, they wanted Mexican food and this place is always busy, so I figured we'd give it a go. Now keep in mind, my expectations weren't high to begin with, but the least they could do is keep the chips warm so you couldn't taste the staleness. And was that salsa, or tomato sauce with onion chunks? I ordered some shrimp tacos with "special" sauce (yes, that was brave of me), turns out it was just tartar sauce. Drinks were weak, food was bland, but I suppose the iceberg lettuce was fresh. Just so you know people, this is NOT Mexican food, it's American-Mexican food which roughly translates to HUGE portions of cheese covered mystery items. But if that's your thing, then I say go for it!
(1)Kilogramo B.
Bad customer service... Waiter cejas de caballo se paso de verga, hated the fake ass guacamole...AND they asked us to "tone it down a little" when we we're just laughing. Worst place in town! Only 4 shrimps on plate called "Camarones Hay Caramba" longest wait time for a sprite refill 10minutes even do the place was empty. NOT A REAL MEXICAN RESTAURANT AT ALL .... El Cha cha way better
(1)Kris J.
Really good guacamole!!
(3)Whitney B.
Food was pretty good, however the service was minimal. We only saw our waiter two times: Taking our order & bringing the bill. My soda was never refilled and we were never checked on. Not bad if you're not expecting much. And I've cream came with our meals, which was cool.
(3)Maria Y.
Huge portions + awesome bar
(5)Jordan S.
Been coming here since I was a kid. Service is always friendly, food is usually great, and it's a fun atmosphere. Nothing too extravagant, just a classic.
(4)Amber D.
I enjoy the food very much. Very large porportions. I think it can look a little more newer but staff and everyone is amazing and are very kind.
(4)Herb W.
The food is fresh, excellent tasting and you get large portions! Their lunch specials are all priced at $6.95! You just have to pick the one that will fill your needs. The chips and salsa just keeps coming if you want them. Then after stuffing your face with too much lunch, everybody gets an included scoop of vanilla ice cream and a cinnamon sugar fried tortilla! I've ate there since they opened and that is many years ago! Never a bad meal. Life is good at La Carretta's!
(5)Carl W.
I used to go here and would always get the enchiladas and over time I have decided that a lot of the food that other people have ordered with me are also lacking in flavor. However the one thing my partner and I have decided that we like are the fajitas and I enjoy one of their large burritos. You will always leave full which is awesome! Oh and they're open really late so you can always go if you get midnight munchies.
(3)Ed W.
Delicious food, inexpensive, HUGE portions, we love this place! We come here every time we visit Gresham. And it comes with free ice cream on certain days!
(5)K M.
I love this place. I always go here. The staff is always so nice, the food is great and it has a great welcoming atmosphere.
(5)Amy A.
I ordered a kaluha/chocolate drink of some sort and it tasted like cough syrup...only took like 2 sips of it. It was awful. I thought it might taste mudslide-ish, but it most certainly did not! The cheesy chicken taco thing we ordered though was very tasty, however they brought refried beans out with it and they can't go on everything. The nachos we ordered were delish though!!
(2)Jeff H.
Really do love this place. Right around the street from my girlfriend's pad, it's convenient, open late, and have some great specials. Their plates are HUGE...always hot, with a great quality of food. The happy hour specials are simply amazing. My girlfriend loves their big margaritas, and I have to admit, they look pretty spectacular. Just an appetizer is usually enough to feed me for the night. Their combination, with little friend taquitos, half a quesadilla, and nachos isn't only cheap, there's a ton of it. I'll take half of it home, if no one shares with me. Service has always been top notch, even at 10:30 or 11 at night on a weekday. I'll admit, the bar area is a little shabby, and has seen much better days, but somehow...it all works. Love this place.
(5)G D.
Good food, good prices and really good service. Only dinging this to 4 for the fact that we have been forgotten before by a bad waitress. This isn't a super high end deal here, but this mexican restaurant is certainly a notch above the rest. The staff are generally very accommodating and friendly. The food is pretty tastey. At times it seems some things may be premade but others it seems handcrafted. This is one of my favorite local places to eat!
(4)Ashley P.
The food is generic and bland. Maybe I just had high expectations because a few people I know have raved about this place. Or maybe it's because I've eaten real mexican food that hasn't been dulled down for the american palate. Either way, I'm not digging this place. Our server was dismissive and rude. The guacamole is good.
(2)Nicole C.
Oh my god I love Mexican food, this restaurant is right down the road from my apartment and almost 9 years of living close by I went to try it out. Nice happy employees and huge portions of food. I will be a regular here for sure and I recommend this place to all my friends double thumbs up in my book
(4)Lydia H.
Came in for lunch with a friend and we both left feeling let down and regretted going here. Choices were a bit limited on the lunch menu, especially veggie choices. I opted for the two cheese enchiladas combo plate that came with beans and rice. He ordered a beef taco and cheese enchilada. The provided salsa was just blah and full of onion. We also ordered guacamole that was good and different as it had sour cream mixed in. The guac was served with what seemed like a pico de gallo but that too was mainly onion. The food came quickly and piping hot but taste wise blah and bland. The beans were alright but the rice was dry and bland and the enchiladas were nothing special. The service was very friendly but with the food quality I won't be back.
(2)Michael J.
So I've been here a few times sometimes I things it's great and others not so much but the service is amazing it's definitely what brings me back
(3)Miz C.
not bad, not great, but open late night and is easy enough for me to get to! i woudl come back and be a little more adventurous with the menu, and definitely more adventurous with their tequila selection. i have a very certain feeling that i will be back. their house salsa is DELICIOUS. request their super spicy salsa, and prepare for your mouth (and possibly other things) to BURN in a most awesome way, great flavor.
(3)J. D.
Service was slow and unfriendly. Food was not tast-ee.
(1)Megan K.
Easily the best Mexican food I've ever eaten, hands down. Order is always ready as promised when we pick up. lots of chips and salsa with to go orders. Portions are huge and food quality is superb.
(5)Cantiflas M.
This is the worst restaurant I have ever visited. This place is the worst MEXICAN food I have ever tasted from a restaurant. This place makes MEXICAN FOOD LOOK BAD!! Here are the specifics, the rice was burnt and tasted like a pan. Also, it took us about an hour after we placed our order to receive our food. I never complain about any restaurant and usually never leave a review but I feel it's my duty to inform my fellow yelpers of this atrocity that is labeled as a mexican restaurant.
(1)Krista M.
I LOVE this place! The staff is always super friendly and efficient and the portions of food are massive! We come here a lot just bec you basically get 2 meals out of each plate, and the price is very reasonable. They hand out the chips and salsa like it's coming from an endless supply, and they put an entire pitcher of water on your table so you never have to track down your waiter when your glass is empty. Overall, I have tried the enchiladas, tamales, tostada, and the chili relleno & would recommend all of them. I love coming here and I will continue to come over & over & over!
(5)Valerie W.
This place is quite the Gresham staple. Great food, good service, quick, and pretty inexpensive for the giant amount of food you get. 1 star for large portions and tons of options 1 star for the friendly and quick service 1 star for the good and inexpensive prices 1 star for the hours they are open. Hooray for the bar! Giant margarita as big as my head, amazingly large portions and food combos, chips and salsa, daily specials in the bar, YUM!
(4)Bobby N Amber R.
Wouldn't recommend them at all!
(1)Mike S.
Had a beef burrito and a enchilada. Big portions and great authentic taste. Waitstaff were good. I will be going back
(4)Tracey C.
I love this place and the waitstaff is so friendly if I haven't been in for awhile they ask where I have been. They keep your salsa full and the chips are yummy. I love going here for lunch. I once had the giant taco and boy was it big. You also get ice cream which a lot of places would charge you extra for. I recommend this place if you want some good Mexican food.
(5)Joe l.
Dark, dirty and lousy food. I really think the good folks of the greater Portland area have a very brainwashed point of view on what decent South of the Border style food should taste like. If you have ever been to the Southwest portion of our country and experienced any Mexican food you would know just how bad this food really is. Quantity is NOT everything.
(1)Ima S.
Bland and blander. I am sorry, this just was not good for me. Service , not so good. Place was busy so maybe you will like it. I would much rather have Original Taco House or La Costita....or Taco Bell.
(2)Joni L.
I LOVE this place! We like to go during the week for the fajita special. Share chicken and steak fajitas for I think $15! The food is always delicious and they always take such good care of you!
(5)MN S.
Consistently tasty, authentic Mexican food, always fresh and sometimes a wait for a table. Portions sizes for a hungry man and margarita's that would make Jimmy Buffet happy. Huge fan of the soups, mole and burritos. Everyone raves about the endless chips and salsa and we are no exception.
(4)Tana G.
This is a consistent meal. You can expect to get good service, food and entertainment.
(4)Elaine C.
Unlimited chips and salsa. -Check. (They don't get all judge-y either when you've finished your 3rd basket of chips and 5th bowl of salsa; they just happily bring you more.) Lots of options. -Check. (The burrito is always a good choice, the carne asada also looks and smells amazing, and the nachos - YUM.) Large portions. -Check. (I always have leftovers...that I shamelessly eat the same night as soon as I get home). Good prices. -Check. (One time for 2 adults and 1 child, it was about 15$. And we got dessert.) Excellent service. -Check. (The servers are always so nice and efficient.)
(4)Kim P.
Popular place but the food is not good. People are nice, but food is not good. Band is great on the weekends but the food is not good. There's better places out there
(2)Kathy W.
Awfully good food - partially because it isn't as salty as some Mexi-rants. Enormous portions. They pour salsa out of pitchers, leave a pitcher of water on your table...keep it coming! Band plays on weekends - awesuuuummm! Free deserts during the week - awesuuuummmm!!!! Delicious iced tea in grande glasses - aweeeesuuuuuummmmm!!!!! The best restaurant tamales I have ever had - not thick and dry and bready, but deliciouso con muy manteca.
(4)Austin J.
I go here a lot there food is good and there drinks can be very strong if you are nice when you ask the people treat you great and I love there salsa I would give this place a shot if you have never gone before
(4)Devon H.
This place, in no way should be a first choice for anyone. However, they are open until 2am and when you can't think of anywhere else to go, you might find yourself here. Just don't expect greatness.. The food is not great, but it passes for edible. I swear I tasted Italian seasoning in the salsa.. Typical bland rice, beans and "coleslaw" accompanies the meal. The chicken lacks flavor and the tamales are too heavy. I've actually never really been thrilled with any of the food I've had here, and yet I come back ever so often. I guess I just like it when I can sit somewhere and munch on endless chips and salsa and drink my margarita til 2 in the morning.
(3)Linda H.
They were so busy that they did not write our names down and we waited for 45 minutes longer than it was supposed to take, when I finally went up and asked how long..and they had not even written our name down. The drinks were good and the salsa and chips OK...but the meal had absolutely no flavor..I have not ever had Mexican food with no flavor before. The service was not good and I will not recommend it to anyone or go back. Th e portions are big, but I would much rather have a smaller portion that had flavor.
(1)Skye R.
Family favorite. Large portions, familiar faces and cheap authentic Mexican food keep us coming back.
(4)Suzanne C.
Very busy place. So busy they forgot to put our names on the list. Chips and salsa were ok as was the margarita. Unfortunately the food had no flavor. Service was not the best either and I will not return. Yes, very big portions as reviewers stated but I would much rather have flavor than size.
(2)Tina S.
We always take the kids here - We all have our favorite dish and drink. We love hitting this place atleast once a month. When we leave we always take about half of our platters of food with us. Good portions - I get atleast three meals out of one. Probably beacuse I fill up on the hot chips and yummy salsa.
(4)Heather S.
Good food, big portions...Would definately go again.. Great chips and salsa!
(4)Keith B.
slow service, very oily food. went with 2 other adults and a child and all off the plates we ordered had large portions of beans and rice and medium size entree portions. all but one of the dishes were very greasy,as in floating in grease, the chilli relleno was not greast but a bit over cooked. the beans were not fresh as they had a pasty been cooked then frozen then re-heated deal going on. i had chilli colorado and the flavor was good, if you can get by all the oil. my daughter had mole, also good flavor but way too oily. she is somewhat of a mole expert as it's been one of her favorites since she was about 5 years old and her first comment was "wow that's a lot of oil". her husband had some chicken dish with peppers and onions, fajitas without the sizzle, same deal there ok flavor but supper oily.grandson had an enchilada which was the only thing we orderd that didn't look covered in oil. and for ground beef didn't taste too bad.` the good- lots and lots of chips and salsa too make the long wait for entrees seem shorter. and the chips were warm and tasted very fresh. they left us a picther of water and brought lots of ice so we never ran out of drinks. also the brought an ice cream dish for my grandson who though only being 16 months ate almost the whole thing. service was nice and friendly but they were slowed down a lot by the kitchen. we went in a around 3:30 and didn't get out till 4:45 on a sunday. not a busy time for any resturant and we were there for 45 minutes before we got food. not a horrible experience but not sure if i would go back...maybe for chips and a margarita :)
(2)Margie N.
Went here for the first time today...and loved it! Started out with the chips and salsa..delish. My fiance had the chimichanga plate and I had the combination fajitas. He is not a real fan of mexican food but he liked his chimi...and had a load of rice and beans along with coleslaw. I could NOT believe the amount of food I got for my fajitas. a plate with rice, beans, sour cream and pico de gallo. Two burrito sized tortillas in a warmer...and a HUGE pile of chicken and steak..onion etc sizzling on a hot iron pan. I would say it was triple the amount of fajita meat I have had at some other places. The combo fajitas are $12.50 and with what I brought home we will be able to share a meal tomorrow! Loved the flavor so what a deal! I was very impressed with the service...like a well oiled machine I watched the servers and bus staff filling salsa bowls and water pitchers before you even knew they were empty. You will not eat this food and think you are Mexico, but it is really good Yankee Doodle Mexican food!
(5)Jose E.
Food is good and the plates are very generous. The integrated bar is a plus if u wanna have some alcoholic beverages. Over all I liked it. And recommend it.
(4)Aaron S.
Since I have moved, this is sort of my new El Indios... if you know what I mean.
(4)Paula S.
The staff was SUPER friendly, comfortable atmosphere. A bit tricky to order any vegetarian/vegan eats but the salsa and chips are wonderful!
(4)Brian H.
This is a great place for lunch. Their lunch specials are $5.95 and they are huge. You could feed 6 people on the fiesta platter alone. They have a killer fajita salad and their soups are great on a rainy day. They offer this little ice cream dessert that is really tasty. Huge place big parking lot outside seating also.
(5)Dillon T.
Consistent, welcoming, festive, and warm. Love the food, atmosphere, and price at La Carreta. This is a good example of a well run, family friendly Mexican restaurant.
(5)Levi L.
Average. If you're looking for big portions, an authentic atmosphere, and free chips and salsa- this is your place. If you're looking for something worth your money, you may want to go somewhere else. It is, however, the best Mexican food in Gresham that I've found.
(3)kimberly p.
My esposo came up with most appropriate words to describe Mexican eateries: Did you ever notice that the quality of the food is disproportionately related to the flamboyancy of the decor? This restaurant is a perfect example: brightly painted with the requisite murals of donkeys and flowers. And the food is...well...your 10 year old will love its bland appeal. Good for large groups. Mariachi band to entertain on the weekend eves. Used to be able to smoke in the bar. That brought in some regulars regardless of their culinary tastes. They serve those humongous margaritas...which I recommend in order to forget how forgetful the food is. Sorry for the harsh words. The staff are super nice and the prices are average for this fare.
(2)Isaiah T.
fajitas ftw!
(5)Jeremy M.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. I am not a huge fan of Mexican food but I have to say that when the time is right and my tummy is feeling it, this is the place to go. They are open until 2 AM and the service is always good. My ex-wife and I used to frequent there a lot with our kids and they staff is always extremely friendly and welcoming. They know us by name and always greet us like we're family. The food is delicious and the portions are HUGE. I try and tackle the carne asada burrito and usually I can't make it all the way through it and have to take the rest home. After you finish your meal they bring ice cream (complimentary) for the kids and they are in no hurry to rush you out the door like some of the other joints around here. Over all I would say this place is definitely worth checking out. On occasion you will find a short wait (typically on a Friday or Saturday night) but the wait is never longer than 10 minutes (at least that is how it has been for me). Go there. NOW!
(5)Chris E.
Pretty average as far as Mexican goes. I usually enjoy the chips and salsa and drinks way more than my meal. I usually have a nice, relaxing time - unless there's some kid doing that high-pitched scream thing.
(3)MIKE J.
service is fantastic and the food is always hot and tasty..chips and salsa are really good. family friendy with huge portions of food.....when in gresham give it a try and i am sure you will return and after a couple of times they even will recognize you
(4)Maria Y.
Huge portions + awesome bar
(5)Jeff H.
(2)Bobby N Amber R.
Wouldn't recommend them at all!
(1)Mike S.
Had a beef burrito and a enchilada. Big portions and great authentic taste. Waitstaff were good. I will be going back
(4)Kim P.
Popular place but the food is not good. People are nice, but food is not good. Band is great on the weekends but the food is not good. There's better places out there
(2)Michael J.
So I've been here a few times sometimes I things it's great and others not so much but the service is amazing it's definitely what brings me back
(3)Kathy W.
(4)Krista M.
(5)Kaneatha S.
(4)Nate C.
(5)Jeff Y.
(4)Leah H.
(1)paul s.
(2)D C.
Love it. Fantastic value. Great service and food. Drinks are worth every penny, and specials are the great.
(5)Melanie G.
(5)Levi L.

(3)Jennifer C.
Kudos!
(4)Ali S.
(1)Whitney B.
Food was pretty good, however the service was minimal. We only saw our waiter two times: Taking our order & bringing the bill. My soda was never refilled and we were never checked on. Not bad if you're not expecting much. And I've cream came with our meals, which was cool.

(3)Tayler B.

(4)Jordan S.
(2)Kilogramo B.

not bad, not great, but open late night and is easy enough for me to get to! i woudl come back and be a little more adventurous with the menu, and definitely more adventurous with their tequila selection. i have a very certain feeling that i will be back. their house salsa is DELICIOUS. request their super spicy salsa, and prepare for your mouth (and possibly other things) to BURN in a most awesome way, great flavor.
(1)Valerie W.
-Check. (The servers are always so nice and efficient.)

slow service, very oily food. went with 2 other adults and a child and all off the plates we ordered had large portions of beans and rice and medium size entree portions. all but one of the dishes were very greasy,as in floating in grease, the chilli relleno was not greast but a bit over cooked. the beans were not fresh as they had a pasty been cooked then frozen then re-heated deal going on. i had chilli colorado and the flavor was good, if you can get by all the oil. my daughter had mole, also good flavor but way too oily. she is somewhat of a mole expert as it's been one of her favorites since she was about 5 years old and her first comment was "wow that's a lot of oil". her husband had some chicken dish with peppers and onions, fajitas without the sizzle, same deal there ok flavor but supper oily.grandson had an enchilada which was the only thing we orderd that didn't look covered in oil. and for ground beef didn't taste too bad.` the good- lots and lots of chips and salsa too make the long wait for entrees seem shorter. and the chips were warm and tasted very fresh. they left us a picther of water and brought lots of ice so we never ran out of drinks. also the brought an ice cream dish for my grandson who though only being 16 months ate almost the whole thing. service was nice and friendly but they were slowed down a lot by the kitchen. we went in a around 3:30 and didn't get out till 4:45 on a sunday. not a busy time for any resturant and we were there for 45 minutes before we got food. not a horrible experience but not sure if i would go back...maybe for chips and a margarita :)

(5)Levi L.
Average. If you're looking for big portions, an authentic atmosphere, and free chips and salsa- this is your place. If you're looking for something worth your money, you may want to go somewhere else. It is, however, the best Mexican food in Gresham that I've found.
(3)Dillon T.
Consistent, welcoming, festive, and warm. Love the food, atmosphere, and price at La Carreta. This is a good example of a well run, family friendly Mexican restaurant.
(5)kimberly p.
(3)MIKE J.
service is fantastic and the food is always hot and tasty..chips and salsa are really good. family friendy with huge portions of food.....when in gresham give it a try and i am sure you will return and after a couple of times they even will recognize you
(4)Jose E.
(5)Tana G.
This is a consistent meal. You can expect to get good service, food and entertainment.
(1)Jennifer C.
Kudos!
(4)Ali S.
(1)Jordan S.
(4)Valerie W.
(5)Ima S.

(3)Tayler B.
