Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

The best Mexican food in the county. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I enjoy the fish tacos. Great value, great food, great service. Hard to find in this town.

Yummmmmy! Now I know where to go for Mexican food in Oregon. Maybe it's a good thing that it is a 5 hour drive from Portland, otherwise I might gain a few pounds a week eating at Playa Del Sol. I really enjoyed my Crab enchilada accompanied by chips, salsa, salad, rice and beans all for less than $10.

Went to a 6:30 Thursday night dinner - BIG MISTAKE! The place was virtually empty, yet it took over an hour to get food. Had no chili rellanos. The enchiladas were fine, but all of our tacos were cold. The waitress could see we were not eating much, so she inquired. The owner comes over, puts her hand on my shoulder and says, "I'm going to apologize for one thing and one thing only." Really? Then she blames the waitress for not telling us it was going to be an hour wait. But she, the owner, had served our drinks - couldn't she have mentioned it? We ordered guacamole during the wait - it never came. They bring the check, we slide the card in the holder and wait and wait and wait. The children are tired, we're bummed by the arrogance of the owner and again, we're waiting! I say to my wife - "I'll wait 5 more minutes - if they don't come we're going to have to walk out to get them to take the credit card." We waited the 5 minutes and walked outside. We walked very slowly to the car, all the while holding the card ready to pay someone. Finally a guy runs out screaming he was going to call the police. Then a very nice lady cook comes out, listens to our situation and takes our card in and runs it. What a bum of an evening! So now I'm reading other reviews about long waits. There were only 3 occupied tables while we were there, so be prepared for a long, inattentive dinner if you choose this hole in the wall.

This was our 1st time to Gold Beach. The hotel said this place would be good. This place was GREAT!!!!!!! I must say, they serve some of the BEST Mexican food I've ever had! Gloria took care of us like we were family. I can't wait until our next trip to Gold Beach!

I love this restaurant! I was in Gold Beach for a 5 week medical rotation and I went here many times. I couldn't get enough of Gloria's spicy salsa! The mole enchiladas are also very good. Hands down some of the best food I tried in Gold Beach.

This place is great. The wait staff is very friendly and fun. I got the fish tacos which were AWESOME. Huge portions, very flavorful. It would be nice if they included more vegetarian options, like a veggie burrito or veggie fajitas. The Mexican food was very authentic and fresh for an unbeatable price. Also, the margaritas are super cheap and tasty!! Great pit stop.

Some of the best Mexican food I've had. I've traveled a lot and had some amazing food.. The flavor is outstanding. No dry meat, and big portions. Will be back next time we are through Gold Beach.

I love finding a hole in the wall place the tourists are scared to stop at in a little town. This was a great find! The flavors were full and fresh, possibly some of the best Mexican food in the southern Oregon / northern California area. We will be back next time through this area for sure.

Incredibly slow service, extremely rude owner and a terrible wait staff. I waited over an hour for my food and during that time drank one awful margarita which was definitely from a pre made mixture. I wanted to order a beer but the waitress never came back. Finally when the food was delivered she left without asking if we wanted another beverage and left all the empty beverages on the table. The last time I saw her was when she dropped off the bill. When the owner saw how unhappy we were she approached us and said she had "one thing and one thing only to apologize about"... Huh? Are you kidding me? She needs a lesson in customer service.

If you love Chile Rellenos, made correctly, do not miss Playa Del Sol. Roberto, the man at the stove, is the king. These are rellenos made in the New Mexican style, with a whole, fresh chile (stem included, and mandatory), lightly battered, crispy and golden brown, with a soft, cheesy middle. The best rellenos in the U.S.A. are made at Chope's in La Mesa, New Mexico. Roberto's rellenos are right up there. We loved the 3 salsas served with the chips, and the rest of the food was great. Gloria, who runs the show, is a really charismatic and funny host. We'll definitely be back. Viva El Rey De Los Rellenos!

This was a nice surprise to find such good Mexican food in a small town. Be sure to request their Chicken Mole, its great!

We come here everytime we're in gold beach. Once a year from Reno NV. While the service maybe a little slow the food is always good. We try to have something new every visit and have never been disappointed.

Excellent fish tacos-lightly sautéed tilapia on soft corn tortillas. Not the least bit greasy. The owner was very welcoming.

This is a small family run restaurant. I had a chili rellano, and it was great. The cheese was melted inside, the cheese enchilada was very tasty. My husband had chili verde enchiladas, which he greatly enjoyed.

with one of us allergic to shellfish, we opted for Mexican after reading reviews of the seafood restaurants and all the FRIED fish. Can't be too sure that they separate the shellfish from the regular fish so we played it safe. We are Mexican food afficionados and this place did not disappoint. It's not the cheap fare that you usually get at mom and pop restaurants but it was OK for the Gold Beach clientele and it was GOOD, honestly! chile relleno was outstanding and if you've even made this labor intensive dish you appreciate it when a restaurant serves it well...and Playa del Sol DID. very nice wait staff...fast, attentive servers...what more can you ask?

Real good chips and three salsas. Friendly server. Great lunch specials. Never eaten dinner here, (looks a little pricey) but the lunches are inexpensive, and very satisfying. It's not what I would consider traditional Mexican fare, but pretty good for an Oregon coastal town. I go there at least once a week when I'm in Gold Beach.

Traveling through Gold Beach Oregon for a Rogue River Jet boat trip. There are not that many choices in the area so we decided to try Playa Del Sol. We were a little hesitant since it's a little hole in the wall in a small town but we were amazed at this place. When we arrived it was crowded but the staff was very friendly. We waited a few minutes for a table and they brought us warm chips and three salsas. All three salsas were delicious. We ordered camarones la diabla, shrimp fajitas, steak Jalisco, and enchiladas. I ordered la diabla and it was delicious. I also shared the steak and that was delicious too. Everyone was very happy with their dinners. Prices weren't cheap but it was worth the price. If this restaurant was near my home I would be a frequent customer.

This place was suggested by the motel we stayed in. Food was outrageously priced (simple enchilada and taco combination $12). When my taco came it had cold ketchup on it. When we asked the waitress, she called over the owner (cook?) and they said that is how they make tacos. They said that they had to keep it cold to keep from spoiling. They also put some green peas on it! Not very Mexican. Not very good. They even charged 75 cents for extra salsa. Don't waste your time here. The place was empty at 6 pm- guess I know why.

Your best choice in Gold Beach for Mexican. This place has interior decor challenges but the consistent food offering keeps me high on their frequent flyer list. They have recently added full bar service to the place and real Margaritas (with tequila) are available now. Still use coffee filters as chip basket liners though....oh well. The food is consistent. Always hot and plentiful. The kitchen staff has been together here for years and it shows in the care and presentation of their plates. Three salsas offered are home style and diverse. The dark red salsa has some kick and a rich roasted flavor. (Owner says it's her Mom's recipe.) You would not choose whoever decorated this place as your interior designer but the food for a small town Mexican place will not disappoint.

Absolutely the best! we stayed at Gold Beach for the jet boat run on the Rogue river, and happened upon this little place we were so impressed we ate their 2 nights in a row, their homemade sauces are excellent as well as the homemade tamales, they have a full service bar also. I could go on and on but just make sure you go out of your way to try this gem..I read a review from some fool saying they put ketchup and peas on their tacos? that's just not true, he must be a special kind of stupid. I'll defiantly be back but since it's an 800 mile trip it may take me a while.

Three of us shared the Chile Verde Enchiladas and the Mole Poblano enchiladas. Absolutely delicious and the portions were perfect. Friendly service - great food

This is the best Mexican food that I have ever had. There is a roasted pepper sauce they serve with complimentary chips that will knock your socks off!!
(5)Nichole D.
We waited for our food for an hour an half. They ran out of guacamole and margarita mix, which for a Mexican restaurant is uncalled for. Surprisingly, the food was decent but we had to get it to go since it took so long. Once we tried to pay they informed us that their debit/credit card machine wasn't working. I wouldn't recommend going here, especially if you are on a schedule that you need to keep.

Gloria we love you! How can I put it any other way. Amazing salsas, homemade as they should be. Sometimes this place is open sometimes it's not , but when we travel this far South we have the Verde pork. It is heaven sent. Fun mexico decor with crazy stucco everywhere. I love this place it's perfect!
(5)JJ D.
I came here with a group and this time ordered Beef Flautas. It was much better than the chicken flautas I had the previous time.
(3)Cin M.
Tried this place for a late lunch. I ordered the fish taco, while my better half ordered the crab enchilada. The food was fairly good. The fish taco comes by itself, or you can add a side of refried beans and rice. The enchilada includes beans and rice. I did wonder about the crab meat mixture which seemed more like tuna salad. We also had a couple of beers and I ordered a blackberry "wine" margarita, which was tasty. Our meals were preceeded by the customary chips & salsa - the chips were better the 2nd time around (as they were fresh from the oven) and the 3 different kinds of homemade salsa were all outstanding! Our waitress was nice, but had to be reminded several times about things she'd forgotten, and service was painfully slow when the restaurant was not busy at all. All in all, I'd recommend this restaurant, but only if you don't mind waiting.
