Our first bad meal/experience in our over 6 weeks of travel. OK - the positive first. We had just checked in for lodging and decided we wanted to eat; the hostesses (there were 2 at the desk) asked if we had reservations; we did not - but . . they said they could seat us if we could wait about 5 minutes. We were seated. All tables do have an ocean view. Our server was very nice and patient as we decided what to order. OK - those three things give it 2 stars. From there it was downhill! My husband's wild salmon (he always gets that if available) was barely warm when he got it and under-cooked - he didn't even finish it. I had halibut - and it was closer to room temp than to warm! SOOO disappointing. Our server never returned to see how our meal was; he did finally come to see if we wanted anything else. We had already waited a very long time - for coffee and water refills. Our server was busy with a large group, so . . . we guess it's management's issue that there weren't enough servers. All the tables were not even seated with guests. When we finally received our check we really didn't want to leave a tip at all - the service was not even the basic - but . . . we did leave the standard 15%; we were staying there for 3 nights, so . . knew we might be back; we never did go back. (If service is great, we leave 25 - 30%. ) And . . when we dined another evening in Florence, we saw that the prices here were extremely high! (Moderate checked below - but it was at the top end of Moderate according to the definition below) We had no idea when we ate there. We payed double what we paid another evening - for an exceptional meal w/exceptional service. It was just a downright unhappy experience - as I shared earlier - the worst in almost 7 weeks of travel.

Come here for the VIEW -- and for the lounge snacks and happy hour drinks. Lunch was not bad. The 2 for $13 hotel guest breakfast is not worth it. No toast? Odd. Having to ask three times (explaining what you mean the 2nd and 3rd times) for eggs over medium (runny yolk, no runny white please???) is really amazing. They never did get the eggs right. I never send anything back but did send back the eggs the first time. The 2nd set of eggs (that same meal) I just finally abandoned. Decided to give them another chance a couple days later and explained at length (feeling like a jerk) what the egg issue was the prior time and please make sure no runny white. You guessed it -- runny white. The potatoes were ok but frankly tasted as if the oil was a little overused (I won't say rancid).

The server was really nice, but the hostess seemed like she didn't want to be there and the food came out cold. I didn't say anything because we'd been waiting a while anyway and I felt bad because I work in the service industry. They also didn't come near filling our beers all the way (missing at least four ounces). Wayyyy overpriced for mediocre food (on the dish that I got at least...the butternut squash ravioli). However, the clam chowder was awesome, and again the server was really sweet. I wish we'd read reviews before coming.

Overpriced, no free drink refills, long wait for food and it was cold when we got it and it was just my husband and I. Hostess and waitresses seem very flustered and not happy to be there.

Read some lackluster reviews and went anyway (breakfast on a saturday morning). I regret that decision. View was beautiful, food (pancakes for me and an omlette) was ok. Service was inadequate. Despite what appeared to be adequate staffing and an unfilled dining room, our food took forever, and after waiting way to long for a check, we just stood up and walked to the front to pay. It was the only place we could find there or in florence with a view, but I'd rather eat better food served by more attentive people and look at the beach later.

9/20/2015 Lunch Ordered a merlot it came in a glass not much larger than a shot glass and only filled about 1/3 of the way @ 6.50 save your money and order a coffee. Fish and chips were good.

This was my second trip to the restaurant and it was just as good as the first I don't understand the other reviews about the service I had excellent service! It was attentive and fast. The food was absolutely delicious from the clam chowder to the clam steamers to the spiced coffee crusted flat iron steak A+ for me! Best view on the Oregon Coast!

Nice employees, blah overpriced food. No continental breakfast on a hotel thats pushing $200 a night? Come on now. Again, the waiter was GREAT and the host was a good kid. Just not a great dining experience and not classy for the rate. Potatoes were undercooked, and the food was bland. The wifi doesn't work in this part of the property either. No wifi, no signal anywhere.

Took my grandmother there for her 87th birthday. The waitstaff was very polite and attentive. The views were beautiful. My grandmother's meal was perfect, however my soup was extremely salty.

When we come to Florence Oregon we stay at Driftwood Shores. They gave a quality restaurant. Great service. Top of line food. Our table was served halibut & fries. It was excellent flaky crisp crust, three good size pieces & thin cut crispy fries. The cold cabbage side dish had a light tasty sesame dressing. Reservations encouraged bc it's a popular place. if you don't get to do a reservation they do their best fit you in. I want to point out they were short staffed bc it was spring break place was packed. The servers explained the wait and worked it well. We gave 20% tip. "GO DUCKS!!"

Excellent service. Linguini with clams and salmon was very good. Don't get the burger though. Ate there despite the other Yelp reviews. Glad we did.

My family stayed at the resort and ate breakfast at the Surfside. The Buttermilk biscuits are amazing! Bisquits and gravy, sided french toast and omelets were all delicious. Great view, attentive staff and great service. Definately a place to eat in Florence!

We came here twice over the weekend. First time we had dinner and we both ordered halibut fish and chips, we came back the next morning for breakfast and got stuffed french toast and sweet potato pancakes. The food was great and so is the view! My only complaint is that they could have a bigger selection of meals on the menu.

I just went to this restaurant with my wife and two young kids. The girl at reception asked me how many were in my group as she was grabbing some menus. I pointed back to my family and said "three and a baby," at which point she informed me that they were actually completely full. I asked how long the wait would be she said "probably a couple of hours." Keep in mind there were ZERO people in the waiting room and the restaurant was scheduled to close in less than two hours. My wife immediately realized that the girl was lying and we walked out. A few minutes later I called in to make a reservation for four and asked how soon they could get us in. As expected, she responded that we could have a table within a half hour. Never eat at this place. Ever. This is no way to run a business.

I've been going to this place for over 40 years. I'm basically a local. My friend and I were have lunch as we do very often. Friend had ravioli with a salad. Salad had rotten lettuce and greens. When we pointed this out to the waitress she said "your didn't say anything when I checked with you" and "this comes pre packaged" so we can't do anything about it". First off she didn't check with us about our meals and secondly it's always the restaurants responsibility to check what vendors supply them with. Very disappointed and when I asked for a reduction I our bill waitress said sorry not our problem.

We found the food to be over priced. My food arrived cold. View of the beach and ocean.. beautiful. Would not be somewhere I would go again.

We came here for the view - looking for a place on the ocean as we drove down the 101. The view was fine but the food was terrible. We ordered the flat iron steak salad, cod and chips, ruben, and breaded red snapper. The last two were alright but the the cod, which is supposed to be a light batter, was very heavy (not like real fish and chips) and the flat iron steak was wilted. They burnt the lettuce! I've never had a cooked salad! On top of that, the service was VERY slow and the prices were pretty high for the quality of food we received. The only thing they were fast about was bringing out the wine.

Very good! I had the linguine w/clams. I dare to say it was better than my mothers (100% Italian, grew up cooking with her mother, grand mother and great grand mother...so the woman knows her way around a kitchen). The portions were decent but what impressed me the most is that they gave a LOT of clams...no skimping here! The view is exquisite and the staff were attentive. We will definitely come back next time we are in Florence!

I have never been so appalled with a restaurant in my life, and it's not likely that I ever will experience worse service than that which I received at the Surfside Restaurant at Driftwood Shores. Please note that not only am I currently a waitress, but I also manage the restaurant that I wait tables in. I understand the difference between bad service and a busy night. I have massive loads of empathy for servers and what they do, and almost always tip over 20%. I dined at the Surfside Restaurant at Driftwood Shores around mid-day on Sunday, September 21, 2014, with a large group of friends. I will admit that we are a colorful group, but we were treated with hostility from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. Our server let us sit at our table for upwards of 10 minutes before even bringing us water, and our initial drink order took easily another 10 to arrive. He failed to check the ID's of anyone at the table before serving alcohol, and yes, there were minors seated there. Our food took an extraordinary amount of time to arrive, and when it did, not one of our group were impressed. There was one instance where a staff member was refilling a coffee, and she said, out loud, "Do I really have to reach all the way across the table to refill your coffee, or are you gonna move some glasses?" But that pales in comparison to some of the other comments that our group received from the hostesses, other servers, and our own waiter. We overheard the staff saying to each other, "We need to watch this table, they look like they're gonna dine and dash." I'm sorry, but because we are young, we are dishonest thieves? Why is our money worth less to you than anyone else's? Are you kidding me? Oh, but it gets better. One of our group, my sister, has dyed green hair. She paid for her coffee, the only thing she ordered, and retreated down to the beach to hula-hoop on the sand. Much of our group stayed seated at the table, and overheard our server and another table of customers talking (very rudely) about her. It went something like, "oh, the green haired girl is hula hooping down there. Are you gonna watch?" to which our (male) server replied something along the lines of, "Her hips aren't going to move without me watching them." At this point, we had had enough. Several of our group members even confronted him about the comment, and let him know that it is absolutely not okay to talk about ANYONE that way, let alone a paying customer who just helped you walk home with cash in your pocket. Again, Are. You. Kidding. Me? The snide comments from every single staff member that we crossed paths with were outrageously unacceptable, unprofessional, and ultimately, HURTFUL. How on earth does anyone employed in this sorry restaurant think it's okay to say these things, let alone within earshot of the guests who are PAYING YOU MONEY? I left this establishment absolutely disgusted, but still tipped my outlandishly rude server. Maybe he could use it to buy some lessons in customer service. I sincerely hope that the people responsible read this and clean up their act. Management, I left you the date of our service here so that hopefully you can check your schedules and hold your staff accountable.

Have eaten here numerous times. I personally feel lunch is better than dinner. We ate dinner here to celebrate our anniversary and it was expensive and just mediocre. I had steak and it was tough and chewy. My hubby had fish and said it was good. Have eaten lunch here many times and have always enjoyed it. Most recently we had the prime rib sandwich with a Cabernet au jus sauce and it was delicious. My friend had the fish tacos and they were good. Our server was good and efficient and the views can't be beat. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice lunch.

I have been there for btreakfast and found that their food was well prepared, and tasty. They recently replaced their carpet, and expanded their menu. They have a very nice selection of dishes. Service was excellent. Lovely view.

torturously s l o w. we went in here for breakfast one morning. the place was NOT full... maybe 3 other tables? maybe. it took a bit just to get seated. then a looooong time to order. everyone moves really slow. i've never seen anything quite like it. they're relatively pleasant, though i would not go as far as to say friendly. food: very limited on menu options. food was ok. i ordered poached eggs, sausage, and pancakes. are were good. nothing amazing, nothing to complain about. potatoes are good, though need more seasoning (which i think of most breakfast potatoes). everyone else seemed fine with the food. no real raving going on. a couple of people tried the stuffed french toast, which they thought had too much stuffing. view: it's beachfront, lots of windows. that's the best thing going for them.

Poor Seafood Selection There was no whole crab or lobster offered at this restaurant for entrees. The wild caught salmon entree I ordered was overcooked, with sides of dry lemon flavored rice and mushy green beans with a strong onion/bacon flavor that did not compliment the salmon. The wine selection was good so I finished my glass, and gave the salmon to the seagulls...they liked it. I tried the crab cocktail and it was served over shredded lettuce in a narrow cup and spilled all over. I didn't go back to the restaurant for any more meals after that...I even got a tip from staff for better local seafood places!

My self and a friend stopped in for lunch on April 8th. I had been for breakfast here about a year before and had not been happy but figured sometimes a restaurant has a bad day. My friend I were seated by a waitress who was very busy. She had about 4 other tables and took a while to get to us. As a fellow server in Florence I understand what its like to be the only server. After about 20 minutes she got to us. My friend ordered the French dip and I order the Cuben. About half a hr later our food finally came and I got a Rueben. Beens as our waitress was busy. I tried to eat it. It was tough I could not bite trough the meat. I finally flagged her down. She said if I was going to change my mind she could put in the order but I would half to wait until the 3 other tables that came in behind us got their food. I explained that I was changing my mind, that I had got the wrong thing. I finally got my order about 20 minutes after my friend had finishe and it was awful. Our waitress had been terrible the food terrible and I had decided for the 2nd time in my life not to tip. She had comped part of my meal. So I actually left a very generous cash tip. As I left shet rudely says "I hope you have a better day". Considering this meal took a hr and a half I will not return.

OMG!!! This place is amazing, the food, the view and the staff. I mean seriously this place is right on the ocean and it is beautiful. I had the Burger Special, it was a BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger with Fries and a Coke for like $9.00 bucks, and my friend had the Rueben with Sweet Potato Fries, this sandwich was huge it reminded me of the ones you get in a New York Deli. I was here for Lunch but, the dinner menu had some items I can't wait to try, I will be back very soon! Did I forget to mention it is on the ocean!!! Also like them on Facebook, so you can join the fun for contests and specials, my server told me this and said it was a great way to find out about daily specials!!! They also do fun things in the bar everyday, I think I want to try out Fun Day Sunday with my Dad what a treat for father's Day!!!

Stopped for lunch with out of town guests. Had immediate and friendly service. Place was almost full. Waitress very helpful with menu suggestions. Corned beef sandwich was huge, meat tasty and tender. Needed to take 1/2 home. My husband had the hamburger and said it was great. My soup of the day and salad was excellent.... Soup had wonderful flavor. Most tables have fabulous view of the ocean. We will definitely go back. The waiter checked frequently to see if all was OK.
