A girlfriend and I were craving sushi and decided to try this place. I cannot call myself an expert on sushi, but I know what I like and I definitely enjoyed my meal here. We had miso soup which comes with a spicy bean sprout salad. We shared a Philly Roll and a San Francisco Roll and both were fresh and yummy, and hot tea to drink. We also shared their special that night, the Firecracker roll - a jalapeno stuffed with cream cheese, tuna, and shrimp and battered & fried in Tempura. Everything came out quickly and as we ordered and tasted great. After everything the bill was only $20 for the both of us. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in Eugene!

We went to Sushi Ya again last night as we had all the time in the world and didn't want anything greasy Downtown (a taller order than you'd guess). For the first time, there seemed to be plenty of staffing to meet our needs. We left very pleased with both our food and the speed with which we managed to fill our tummies. You know, after posting my last review I searched my credit card purchase histories to see exactly how many times we've been here for certain. In the past 2 years, we've eaten there 8 times and this is the first time we didn't wait forever. AWESOME! Service was friendly (it always has been) and PROMPT. I'm going to try and get my husband to take the plunge again sometime in the next couple weeks, and if our food arrives so promptly again, I'll give them another updated 4-star review, seeing as how Sushi Ya has always had 4 star food and 4 star friendliness in terms of waitstaff .... The Waiting-for-Godot aspect was always the sole and only problem with Sushi Ya.

It was our first time in Eugene and it was late, pretty good sushi! The Sunrise was super good. There was a weird Japanese toilet, hahahhaa.

Had a quick bite here before a gig. Rolls were good (got an ebi metal & a tempura) and good service. Decent miso, too. My only complaint was the teevee being on.

Overpriced mediocre sushi is what happens when you're worn out by long hours on the road, no prior research is conducted, zero regard is paid to the fact that the place is sparsely patronized, and you stubbornly commit to the first restaurant you see. There was nothing terrible about it, but sushi places like this are a dime a dozen and usually cheaper too, so I probably wouldn't go back even if I lived in Eugene, OR.

Really good. The yellowtail and spicy salmon were on special for only $6 a roll. Nice service. You've got to check out the bathroom--seriously, check out the unisex bathroom. What a hoot.

Personally i think they should stop serving that stuff they call sushi and make the food that they know how to. If you ever had a chance to eat any of the Korean food that Yun makes, you would know what i mean.

Absolutely awful service and sub par food. Ordered the lunch special. It was supposed to come with miso soup, rice, sushi and something from the kitchen (hot food). The waitress got none of our order right as well as none of the tables around us. When we asked for a corrected order it took 40 minutes and 3 reminders for us to get our sushi first, then kitchen food, then had to ask for rice and then got our Luke warm miso soup last. No salad. Then we had to ask for our check 4 times until we finally went up and got it. This was happening all over the restaurant. The sushi was warm and the hit food fatty.

I really wanted to give this place 4 stars but just couldn't do it. I was craving sushi and I decided on this place because they hand yummy sounding rolls and a good selection. They were a bit pricey but I was sure it wouldn't be that bad. All in all I ended up spending 40$ for sushi for two people and one cup of miso. That is pretty crazy, the sushi was good but wasn't anything that blew me away. I've had better in Portland for much less money. I still would have given the food 4 stars but unfortunately the service was lacking, and I'm usually very patient when it comes to service. We were seated and ordered our food fairly quickly. We had only water for at least 15 minutes and no miso soup for me. While waiting at least three groups came in, two getting their food at least 10 more minutes before us. Finally the server came over and asked whether I had gotten my miso, which I laughed and said no, it was silly because she was the only server and I had no dishes in front of me, but she brought it right away. When we finally got our sushi it had been a good half hour. Most of these issues could have been there lack of staff, I noticed there was only one person to make sushi and of course the one server. Which was unfortunate because I could see us having a much better experience if only a few things were changed.

Came here for Valentine's Day dinner. Our waitress was very polite and gave great service. I enjoyed my food a lot (I got the Philadelphia Rolls and some Ebi Nigiri) and felt like the prices were pretty reasonable. Their menu is huge so there's plenty of dishes to choose from. For dessert I had the mochi ice cream. I have to say, this place was worth it just for that! Mochi is super delicious and Sushi Ya does it right! Not my favorite sushi place in town, but I'll definitely be returning again.

This was the first sushi place we visited in Eugene, and I thought the food was just fine. I don't actually remember what we got - probably ramen and a combo of some sort. I did notice that they had a natto special on the board, which is certainly authentic (though I don't really like natto - it's yucky). They also had kimchi available and the food we ate was certainly good. My combo came with miso soup and since my husband ordered soup, he shouldn't have gotten miso soup, but the waitress gave him some anyway, just to be nice. I'd go back to try some of the more authentic dishes or maybe to sit at the sushi bar. Kamitori is a bit better, but this place is sufficient.

We had an awesome evening at Sushi Ya. We sat at the bar and chatted with sushi chef Sam, who simply offered to make us something we would like. And he did. And it was excellent. I'm not huge into sushi, as I don't eat fish, but they made up some delicious rolls that made me a fan. Good stuff.

Eaten here a few times. Only once was I disappointed but went again after that experience and was pleased with the food. Their sushi isn't the most inspired you'll find but it's good and the portions are pretty large. The calamari appears to be hit or miss and they use a lot of breading on it, but otherwise it's a good place to grab some sushi in Eugene.

Sushi novice here. Went for a late meal. The server was friendly and helped us with our order. Everything I tried was awesome (again, this was my first time eating non-supermarket sushi). The price for the two of us was very reasonable and I left stuffed.

I got the take plate. Decent price for decent sushi. Don't expect too much. The miso soup was good but it's kinda hard to screw that up. The server was nice but didn't come around very often. I've definitely had better sushi experiences.

there's a really long story to go along with this one-star rating. it's full of delightful quips about server errors and orders gotten wrong. to be honest with you, i'm just too exhausted to list it all here. so... sushiya?? just skip it. it was the worst service i've ever had. anywhere. period.

This place was recommended by a fellow Eugenite. Extremely disappointed and felt like we were mislead upon ordering. Three of us sat down to dinner, in what I would say is a nice atmosphere for a restaurant, however, disappointed in not only the quality of sushi and their immense amount of rice in their rolls but fish wasn't that fresh, although not fishy - if that makes sense. Don't be mislead into ordering more than you can eat. The Sashimi was on top and gave us the portion size but the rolls were right below it and not clear enough to delineate the quantities. Ordered 3 rolls, which we thought would be a good start...however, upon delivery realized we ordered 3 rolls 3 times - equaling enough for almost 63 pieces each. HELLO where was the waitress telling us that would be WAY too much for the three of us - in addition to the tempura and edamame??? I know, our mistake, but clearly one that could have been changed by the gentle guidance of our waitress. Fortunately, there were plenty of guys back at the house to eat it. In addition, rice was somewhat gummy and the presentation was not that spectacular. Would not go back and would not recommend this place.

I went to Sushi Ya on a double date very recently. I was a little confused and overwhelmed by the huge selection of rolls that the menu offered, but managed to pick out a couple after also ordering a nigiri assortment. My boyfriend and I received our food, which turned out to be mediocre. The rice was quite gummy, and the fish didn't have that freshness factor that stuck out at all. For two rolls that turned out to be 8 bucks each, I probably could have made better homemade rolls. The waitress forgot my friend's beer, appetizer, and even food. He eventually got the beer, but neither him nor his girlfriend ever actually got their appetizer. He went up to the register to ask why they had not gotten their food, and it turns out that they did not even put the order in for the itamaes to receive it. Eventually they got two of their rolls on the house, but by then they were absolutely done and decided to leave (all the while my boyfriend and I had received and ate our food.) The ridiculous part is that they didn't ever receive their appetizer. So basically, poor service + low quality food = me sticking to Kamitori.

Don't eat here. You will be so disappointed. You would do better going to Albertson's, buying some fish and just eating it right out of the package. It would probably be more fresh. It's a shame too cause this place is cool on the inside and the people are sooooo nice. If they would just buy better fish and do some popular rolls it would be just fine.

Always enjoy coming here! Nice downtown location, good staff and one of the best sushi chefs in town. Awesome birthday special too!

Sushiya--used to be Misako--hasn't changed much besides it's name as far as I can tell from reading past reviews. The look of the place is nice, but it stops there. As a disclaimer, I went by myself, and I think you notice more alone. The acoustics interfered with my experience--first a screaming baby, which is no one's fault. Then I couldn't help notice that all the people at the bar seemed to work there and were in and out of the kitchen, though apparently not helping the over-taxed waitress. There were also four people standing behind the counter doing nothing while one young sushi chef took a long time to make each order. Care in the details? Nope. Poor quality tuna which wasn't even masked by the spicy roll I ordered, served on a lacquer-chipped wooden tray that felt less than sanitary. As a final assault to my senses, one of the non-working employees waited impatiently for the busy waitress to count out his tips and played a solitary game of tossing his keys in the air repeatedly, dropping them every third time. Did they notice that there were customers? Aside from the waitress, the staff felt unprofessional and lacking in workplace pride. Hmm... the avocado was good.

Was okay for their happy hour which is 30% off from 3-5 pm but a bit spendy otherwise. Also, most of the rolls had the same 3 ingredients. Service was great though!

Its ok.....a nice place to bring someone who is a sushi novice. the service was good. They had a good attitude and were friendly. A little overpriced for the quality...which is why they get 3 stars - in this day/age if you're going to charge 5 bucks for a plate of sushi it best be DAMN good sushi. Convenient location.
