I'm rating this based on what it is, they aren't trying to fool anyone, it's a sushi-train, folks. Balance your expectations. Sushi trains are for fast sushi. Yes they need to be clean and well functioning of course, a good selection is always a plus. Sushi Island gets the 5 out of 5 for sushi-belts because it hits all points nicely. The selection is actually better than I'd usually expect at a train. I love the set up. Some places have it so that the chefs are the middle and it feels cramped sometimes. This is not set up like that. It's sort of set up like a U instead of an O. It's a nice arrangement. The seats are nice and comfy, the place is well maintained. The sushi isn't the best cuts of fish, why would they be, it's a sushi train. It's cheap because it's a simple procedure and mass produced. I was able to spend a 30 minute lunch, eating at my own pace and walked out with a tab about the same price as if you went to a diner. Whereas if you go to a higher end sushi bar you'd pay twice that and it would take much longer. You shave off some quality for convenience. If you want great sushi, go to Mame for dinner. If you want a quick, satisfying lunch, Sushi Island is good times.

After further review it turns out I go back often! This place has a GREAT happy hour. All plates are $1.50 between 2-4 every day. As long as you're there before 4pm they still give you happy hour prices! Awesome. The sushi is very consistent, always get great product and pretty good service. So after further review it's going to 5 stars. Great work Sushi Island!

Ordered the Hollywood roll and salmon sashimi to go. SO disappointed. Ate one piece of the Hollywood roll and couldnt even look at the rest. The fish tasted so old and bad. Sashimi was okay, not the best, but not the absolute worst. None of it seemed fresh at all...definitely never going back, stay away!!

sushi island is decent restaurant for a sushi train kind of place. their prices are alright. i've had worse sushi trains. in the end you get ok quality for ok price. their calamari is delicious and coated with tasty breading. some of their roles are pretty good too. happy hour makes it a great regular prices are alright for those that don't have huge expectations. they have other stuff on the menu too although their speciliaty seems to be the sushi.

First off I will say I typically do not eat much sashimi, I don't mind it, but I just prefer my food cooked. With that said I can not believe this place is 2.5 stars! Happy hour from 2-4 (everyday) is absolutely amazing, every plate is 1.50 on the sushi belt. Around 4 pieces per. I arrived right at 2 and by 2:20 is was packed. Everything was great, minus the calamari was a little overcooked. An abundance of soy sauce, wasabi, teriyaki, and a flavored mayo(?) were around the seats. My wife and I left absolutely stuffed for 21$ which I find hard to do most places in Eug eating sushi. (bring the sweatpants) I read below some people complained of the service. I had zero issues and was actually quite happy with the waiters, they were very helpful and quick to refill my drink. The only bad thing I could say about this place is the chairs felt very cheap other than that and the chewy calamari.

The good: The conveyor-belt setup was a welcome surprise. While waiting for my cooked dish, I stared longingly at what looked like a nice selection of well priced offerings. Edamame, various sushi, it looked good. Unfortunately, I came in with a very specific meal in mind and that's what led to eventual disappointment. The bad: My Katsu chicken was overcooked and took _34_ minutes to arrive. I can't even think it was the size of the crowd because I arrived well in advance of the lunch rush and the place was almost empty. I believe the server (a woman with a color streak in her hair) lied to me when I asked for a status at the 20 minute mark. She went in back, I saw her handle a ticket, then she came out and told me they were plating it 'right now'. It was 10 more minutes before the dish actually arrived and the woman who cashed me out told me they had actually lost my ticket. I am frustrated that I was lied to. Mistakes happen (lost tickets are usually no big deal) but to be lied to about it makes me feel like a chump. I would have tried again likely but I feel so frustrated at being deceived that I don't believe I will.

I will not do this again. I am sorry but the food was an all time low. Staff was alright, place was okay but the Sushi sucked.

It's really spacious, clean and the plates looked good. There's plenty of seating. It's in a convenient location and they have good street advertisements which is what caught my attention. The happy hour is the best deal. They don't ask for any special purchases to participate and every plate is flat rated. They even have special items on the belt. The customers are interesting too. There was a couple who looked like young men but one was a female. They were both overweight so it was hard to tell at first. I also sweet the tiniest fly. It was less than 1/5 the size of a normal fly.

Sushi island was alright. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi place though. The service was consistent and decent and the sushi belts were full of variety. The sushi isn't amazing. This place is good for a quick stop with you're starving.

I've had much better sushi, but the happy hour prices are hard to beat. For me, sushi is one of those foods that as long as it doesn't make you gag, then it's good. I realize that's setting the bar awfully low, but I'm from the Midwest where sushi is lovingly referred to as bait, and earns that title. I would pick this place over grocery store sushi which is of the same quality. The service here is basic, just get your beverages and utensils then ask for the bill. I kinda like that. My husband and I come in for happy hour, split about 8-9 dishes, then pay and leave in about 15 minutes. We tip about 10% instead of the standard 20% since it's not really full service. There's usually a line at the door but it moves fast. You can opt to sit at a table and reach over the heads of other people to get to the sushi on the belt if you don't want to wait. I say give happy hour a try but don't expect a mind blowing sushi experience. Also, the sashimi is a little gaggy in that warm, raw fish kind of way. Stick to the rolls.

I've been thinking to visit here for a long time and finally got a chance today. We arrived at 2:10 and there were already groups of people waiting for seats. We two girls spent $20 for 11 dishes and 4 green tea mochi. The sushi were okay. You get what you pay for. Green tea mochi was really good, tastes like the one sold in Asian markets. The man sitting next to me was really confused about sushi rolls on the belt. Most of the time he just grabbed spring rolls and gyoza because he didn't know what other stuff are. So you'd better do some homework before visiting if you aren't familiar with sushi rolls. Overall 3.5 stars for good service and non expensive sushi rolls.

The biggest problem with Sushi Island is that there is no emphasis on freshness, which I'd say is rule #1 of good sushi. During busy times, they pre-make plates of sushi and stack them on a table in the food prep area, meaning that even when they put those "new" plates out on the belt, they've been sitting around for a long time. I'm not sure how that meets food safety regulations, but I do stay away from anything raw here. The only way to get freshly assembled sushi is to order it, but even then the ingredients taste cheap and unfresh. To mask the poor quality of ingredients, they overdo the sauces and serve an abundance of things drenched in sweet and/or fatty sauce. There are times when nearly everything on the belt is deep-fried and covered in sauce. Happy hour is a good deal if you're craving fast-food junky sushi (which, hey, sometimes I do) but be prepared for mobs of people. There's a long wait on weekends. Other times of day, it's overpriced for the quality.

Gross. I do not care for imitation crab and this place was full of it. The only appetizing rolls on the belt were the ebi rolls. I ordered a roll off the menu and it had little to no flavor. I guess you get what you pay for.

Its all about the happy hour here. The service was great. Wish the had more nigiri on the rotation. I will be back to try out the menu asap and may update this

Spectacularly bad. I see that I was wrong in naming Duck Sushi worst in town, because Sushi Island is even worse. Pros: Literally none. Free parking perhaps. Cons: - The atmosphere: Like sitting at a table facing complete strangers, with all parties awkwardly trying not to look at each other or listen to each other's conversation. And when I say "at a table", I mean "at a rotating trough". I felt very uncomfortable and couldn't wait to leave. And that was -before- I found out how awful the food was. - The price: Supposedly it was Happy Hour, but since we paid after 4pm, we were charged full price. Didn't prevent us from getting the crappy happy hour line-up of only four kinds of sushi on the belt. Only as we were getting the check, after happy hour, did we suddenly see a few new things come out. - The selection: There were about three dozen types of sushi on the menu listed under "sushi belt selection", yet only four rotated during the entire time we were there: California rolls, california rolls with mango and salmon on top, salmon and cream cheese rolls, and salmon rolls with some crunchy stuff and sauce on top. That was it. Not a single other thing came by the entire time until we had already asked for the check, when happy hour was over and they could put their real sushi out. - The rolls: Not much variation, and they were all way too sweet. Cheap mayonnaise? Gross. Even most grocery store sushi is better than this. - The Escolar: I saw that they have escolar, which is my personal measure for how good a sushi restaurant is, but there was none on the belt. I asked the waitress, and she said "oh, that's never on the belt". So why is on the menu under "sushi belt selection"?! Anyway, when it came out I wished I hadn't ordered it. It was brownish beige. YUK. I've eaten escolar at all kinds of places, and bought it at Uwajimaya as well for preparing at home, and it has -always- been a bright, creamy white, sometimes a little toward pinkish, but never this weird color.. I have no idea what they did to it or how old it was. I ate it because I felt like I should at least try it, but it wasn't very fresh tasting. I should've just sent it back and asked for my money back, but I never saw the waitress again. - Unagi-don: By FAR the worst unagi we have -ever- tried. We make it home, eat it at lots of restaurants, but never have we seen unagi this bad. Dry, crusty, disgustingly overcooked, bones in it. Eww. - The service: Saw the waitress when we placed our order, at which time I told her I might want to order more later. Saw her again when she delivered our first order, and then never again. Wasn't able to order more, what she brought us was barely even edible, and there wasn't much on the belt. We didn't come here for happy hour, we just came for a late lunch. We ended up getting a shitty selection of only 4 kinds of sushi, and no opportunities to order more after our initial request. Yet we paid full price, because we ate during happy hour and paid afterwards. Ridiculous. Never again. Rarely have I regretted going to a restaurant more.

Awesome deal and god quality for the cost. Arrive at 1:45 each day for optimal seating during $1 tray happy hours (2-4).

I am not a huge sushi fan- and am leery of trying new sushi places since I've tried some nasty sushi. My fiancé comes here often, and wanted to go so I went with him. I ordered tempura shrimp and veggies from the appetizer menu. He got sushi from the sushi belt. I tried his California roll and regretted ordering the tempura. It was super good. For me, it tasted fresh, the balance if ingredients was right, and the temperature was good. I then tried his tempura California roll, also delicious. When I got my tempura veggies, I was even more disappointed- one asparagus, potato, sweet potato and ???. When I've ordered tempura other places, there is typically some broccoli too- I'm not a huge fan of tempura fried potatoes. The tempura was just ok- it would have been better with more asparagus or broccoli. But, I wouldn't order it again either way. Next time, I'm going with the sushi, so I don't have to take pieces of my fiancé's plate. It was tasty, and even at regular price, not a bad price. If I didn't order the tempura, and if the seating wouldn't be so awkward with more people in the venue, id give this 5 stars. For now- 4. But I'll definitely be back!

Sushi Island is easily located on West 11th by the Fred Meyer with ample parking. It has been mentioned in several comments already, but it bears repeating that from 2-4 on any day, including weekends, you can feast on any plate from the sushi belt for $1.50 per plate. What has NOT been said, is that you can *also* order from the regular menu, or make special requests at any time. Yes- you will pay regular price, but for those complaining about the variety this may well be a fair compromise. Of course they do a ton of different rolls such as California Roll or Spicy Tuna Roll during Happy Hour. I have also seen many other varieties. Regular prices on sushi are average for the area. Buy 5 plates get the 6th free, I have never been told that I had to purchase Miso and a drink, in fact they also print coupons in the Savvy Saver that do not state additional purchase required. I have been told this coupon does not apply during Happy Hour. Much has been noted about the customer service. Think of it as fast food and not fine Japanese dining to gain some perspective. These ladies work hard cleaning and resetting places, in addition to juggling orders with no table numbers and their regular cleaning duties at minimum wage plus splitting any tips. It is usual to have to remind a server about a special order- particularly since they switch positions frequently. I have never had anyone be particularly brusque with me, I have been told that we arrived 5 minutes too early and if we touched anything off of the belt before 2 p.m., we would be charged full price for the item, which was a *little* over-the-top. My daughter and I timed the sushi as coming around every 5 minutes. There are actually 4 separate belts, not one big one. Patrons are welcome to get up and walk around to find what you are looking for (though it's never appreciated to reach over someone's shoulder to snatch what they were reaching for.) Bento boxes are reasonably priced. When we ordered, the chicken katsu was overcooked, which seems to be a recurring theme. The tempura veggies were perfect and delicious, however. My daughter particularly enjoys the miso soup, which is always rich and dense. Seating is rarely awkward if you're used to cafeterias. Saddle up where there's room, try not to knock anyone with your elbows and get your wasabi on!

Today was my first visit to Sushi Island after I heard about their great happy hour. We put our name on the list and waited, thinking it would only be a couple minutes since several groups had just finished up. Well, we waited and waited and nothing was happening. All of the staff were ignoring the tables that needed clearing and the groups of people lining up for spots - basically, the place looked disgusting, the customer service was non-existent, and it made me wonder whether the kitchen was hygienic at all, since the dining area certainly wasn't. We left after 10 minutes of this disaster.

I took my son in to have some lunch. After reading some of the reviews I was skeptacle. We got there about 5 minutes to 2 and I'm glad we did because by 2:15 the place had a line. The food was great as was the service... My son tried and liked everything we tried. We will definitely be back

When I have the money, I'm rocking this place once or twice a week. the platter that's 32 dollars is great. I add the sunshine roll do it. Love mango. I just wish they would never put the mayonnaise sauce on all there stuff. I also wish all their specials weren't cooked. I like some specialties without the chicken nugget taste. Price is good. I've only picked my stuff up because service is slow.

Not super-high-quality gourmet sushi, but then I wasn't expecting such for this price point, especially their daily happy-hour price. The conveyor belt is fun, and sees enough volume that the offerings stay fresh. So--a middle-of-the-road 3 stars for a solidly middle-of-the-road eats.

The belt is a cool option and good $ but everything on there is mediocre. at best. The bento boxes are only $6.75 for a one item witch us great but the food...mhh ordered one roll that had lobster and it was hard as a rock. Not pleased.

The Eugene Weekly, arbitrary as always, recently did a write-up of the new Sushi Island restaurant in it's 'Summer Chow' edition. I haven't been to a conveyor-belt-sushi place in Eugene, so I figured I've give it a go. My expectations were low and, considering this, I suppose they were met. The sushi quality was roughly on a par with the case at Market of Choice in South Eugene. Pros: [+] They were doing brisk business at lunch time so it didn't feel like the sushi was getting super old on the belt. [+] The items were well presented and well organized. The color-coding of the plates was easy to follow and the scaling of the items/prices seemed appropriate. [+] They not only honored the 'Buy 5, Get 6th Free' deal, they told me about it, even after I ordered only water, and they gave me the most expensive plate of the 6 for free. The servers were very busy but were pleasant enough. Cons: [-] One item I had, a mini rainbow-roll looking item, had perhaps the gnarliest Krab I've ever experienced. [-] Nigiri quality was substandard. [-] Two smaller rolls I had, salmon and philly, were wrapped with seaweed that was particularly chewy and almost-stale. Again, no better than the yuppie grocery store. Well, sushi is all about the fish, and Sushi Island certainly isn't a place where I'd become a regular. I wouldn't bring anybody here to experience the sushi of Eugene, either. They do have a Happy Hour from 2-4pm, with all plates at $1.50, which sounds a little bit scary. (Is it the leftover stuff floating around from lunch hour?) It's only a matter of time before I'm doing chores out that way during that time of day and stop in. After all, sometimes I get that grocery store sushi, too. Meh.

This place is great! I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews. As for the 6th plate free, it truly is. I usually can't eat more than 5 though. Fantastic selction of fresh, perfectly prepared sushi! Definitely take advantage of their Happy Hour between 2-4pm everyday. Only $1.50 for every plate.

I love Sushi Island for quick, cheap sushi that is of a respectable quality. I've always had good fish here & if they don't have what you want on the belt, they will make it for you to order for the same price. The have some interesting stuff. One of my favorite things is ume and shiso & not many places have it, so I was excited that they would make it for me. Their seaweed salad is also quite good. Other belt sushi places I have been to were not as accommodating if it wasn't on the belt. It's great to be able to have the fun of a belt, but also order what you want if they don't have it on the belt. If you go when it's crowded, there are often more thing to choose from, obviously -- but I have also been there at off times and they still put fresh stuff out the whole time I was there. Depending on the waitresses working, the service for drinks can be a bit dodgy, but everyone is really nice and I have always gotten the 6th plate free - I do always order some kind of beverage, but I didn't know you had to to get the deal - as one reviewer mentioned. It's not the best sushi in town, by any means - but for what it is, it's great. A very nice addition to the sushi available in Eugene. Dependable fish at a good price. Not out of this world, but also not scary or gross.

So, a co-worker of mine took her husband out for birthday lunch at Sushi Island. She said the sushi was so-so but the service was poor. There is a big banner outside the store that says "buy 5 plates and get the 6th free". So, they grabbed 5 plates and then grabbed their free 6th plate. When it came time to pay the bill the hostess said that the 5/6 deal is only good if you also buy miso and a soda. The big banner doesn't say miso and soda which put my friend in a very awkward spot. She referred to the sign and the hostess insisted that she must buy miso and a soda to get the deal. She paid for all 6 plates. About 2 hours later I went and had a late lunch myself. The service is definitely slow. Sodas do not come with refills. The banner does say "buy 5 and get 6" but it does not say + miso and soda. So, I rate this 2 stars because of the service especially because of the banner outside. The sushi is better than buying from the supermarket but that's about it.

I have trouble with anyone ranking this place below three stars. The fish is quite fresh and there are many inexpensive options. I enjoyed what I had quite thoroughly. A nice thing is that you have the option of ordering off the menu or off the conveyor belt. I ordered the uni (2 orders- it was fresh and delicious) as well as tobiko with quail egg (my favorite- they did it perfectly) AND ate quite a few plates off the conveyor belt AND Dixie and I both had an iced tea and the bill was less than 40 bucks. I can blow through $40 in sushi without blinking an eye. The service was very attentive and nice, the prices are cheap and even cheaper during happy hour (1.50 a plate, 2-4pm daily), and it's right next to skip's records. What's not to love

It opened recently right next to Fred Meyer. We were hoping this place would be a casual go-to dinner place for us since we love sushi. It is clean. That is THE only positive thing I can say about this place. The food was AWFUL. I hate to give a negative review to a new restaurant, but my goodness. It was just not edible. The sushi rice was all pasty and unseasoned, the fish didn't taste like anything. The fried calamari was cold and chewy and tasted like fried plastic. The price per plate was much too high for what they serve ($1.50 to $3.50). My husband who is usually very forgiving was the most upset of all. He really hated the food. You can try them yourself, but we certainly will not go back.

Took the bride to Sushi Island on Saturday for the Happy Hour (which runs from 2:00 to 4:00 every day). $1.50 per plate. Great combinations... and killer price. Wife did the Shrimp nigri sushi times several, and a couple of California rolls. I had some toro rolls, a tempura roll, a roll with tempura asparagus and ... and ... and .... in all 10 plates, $15. Plus tip. And a long walk. It was pretty darn good for the "discount" stuff.

happy hour super cheap from 2-4 PM, I even cam off hours and love that I could sit at the belt, grab some food, pay a reasonable price and leave....if you like sushi and in a hurry....nice! the girls that are the wait staff really nice and very personable.

Well, what can I say? I live in SoCal, so I'm spoiled when it comes to sushi. I was in Eugene with some friends, when someone made the suggestion to grab some sushi for lunch. I reeled initially because: 1.) If it's not AYCE, then I can't f**k with it. 2.) I eat a LOT, so if I'm paying per plate/item, then I can easily eat $100 worth all by myself. 3.) Sushi in Oregon can't possibly compare to my favorite spots down south. None-the-less, my friend's boyfriend suggests Sushi Island. The huge happy hour banner outside attracts my attention. $1.50 for every item pulled off of the belt. F**kin' A, now that's what I'm talking about. Happy hour is from 2:00PM - 4:00PM. Upon walking in, you can see the whole layout of the place. The sushi belt goes around two rows of tables and back to the sushi chefs, the biggest sushi belt that I've seen thus far. There are tables on the side away from the belt, so I guess if you don't grab a seat at the belt, you'll have to go up and grab your items. I can't really rate the service because we pretty much sat down and served ourselves. This place has plastic covers on the plates, which is smart because it keeps the flies off, as well as those nasty ass customers who cough and sneeze in front of the belt. So here's the real test. . . My girlfriend and I try the salmon sushi. It's a little warm and extra slimy, but . . . for a buck fifty, we can't really complain. The rice portions are a little big, but at least the slices of fish are reasonably proportioned to them. The rolls. . . they're okay. Really, what makes the rolls okay is that they only cost $1.50. Really hard to go wrong with that. I mean, you get what you pay for, and I strongly believe in portions and getting full, and during the happy hour at Sushi Island, this can be accomplished without emptying out your whole wallet. Dish of the day: Surprisingly, their calamari is firm with a slight crunch to its texture, without being too rubbery or too hard. In a bunghole, I'd gladly hit up this spot for a minor sushi fix, but only during their happy hour. My girlfriend and I had six plates each which came out to about eighteen bucks. So figure, by myself, I could have easily been satisfied, spending less than thirty dollars, which is usually how much AYCE sushi costs. I didn't get to try their cheesecake, but it's an item on the belt via card.

Why I keep coming back here when all my reviews suck? MY SON LOVES IT!! He loves looking at the sushi going by on the roller and he doesn't mind that it's not the best sushi. After this experance I don't know if I'll EVER go back! Well we got there and they are busy (as usual) so that's nothing new, but they passed over us on the list 5 TIMES!! I kept saying to my self and my HUNGRY son "It's okay they are taking people that came in before us and that have more people in thier party." But when they skipped over us the 5th time I got mad and walked up to them and snapped "where are we on the list?" After they realized that they gave us a table and well my son was the only one who had ANYTHING. I had to flag down the girl and even then they people NEXT TO ME (THE CUSTOMERS) got up, got me my stuff!! Then when I asked for Kalamari and I don't know what my sons fav dish is (its the one with salmon on the inside and seweed on the outside), she didn't know what EITHER of them were!?! I mean COME ON, you work IN A SUSHI PLACE, BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT SUSHI IS CALLED?!? Okay well we finally got our stuff, my son loved it as usual and we left, but I was still fuming. I'll give them another chance but after this they are on thin ice.

if you enjoy good sushi don't go here. my family and I were recommended to a chinese restaurant down the street, but being closed for remodelling, it redirected us to this place. sushi island. chinese run, it's clean and the servers are sweet. however, as cool as happy hour sounds, 1.50 a plate also means that they only serve what's worth 1.50 or less on the "conveyer belt" part of the menu. skeptical of the fish i might find here, i ordered the tempura udon. in the menu, this was described as a "light, clear broth." this description was backhanded when the waitress came out with a bowl of milkiness, just overflowing with the smell of sesame oil, and accompanied by a shrimp, and a handful of strange nuggets, all covered in some layer of hard, orange crust. if this is some new funky style of tempura, i'll stop at this sample, thank you. on the other hand, they did give a decent helping of it, whatever it was. it wasn't what i wanted, but it wasn't terrible either. we also ordered a sashimi plate, some rolls, and a bento. for the most part, it was all average. the fish was skimpy and they never gave us plates or dippng dishes, but i guess ya can't expect anything more when you walk into a mall sushi boat style restaurant.

Really disappointing. Slow terrible service food sub par. I think this has moved off my list. There is a lot of competition in the price range for our business and it's all better.

Lunchtime Happy Hour is the best! The conveyer belt sushi bar is a lot of fun and my wife and I have some all time favorites that we eat during the $1.50/ plate happy hour from 2-4 everyday. We really love the spicy tuna, salmon and asparagus rolls. When 2:00 rolls around the place fills and there's often a waiting line to get a spot along the conveyer belt of delicious sush, up but by 3 it starts to clear out. For dessert try the ice cream mochi, they usually at 3-6 flavors to choose from.

The time to come here is during happy hour. It gets filled quickly, so you may have to wait. However, you will get freshly made sushi for dirt cheap, so it really balances out in the end. During happy hour feel free to stuff your face with whatever is on the belt because everything is half price and you can watch it being made. The quality of the sushi isn't that great, but when you're paying as little as you are, it's worth it. A couple steps above grocery store sushi to be honest, but still good enough to pay for.

Two words: Happy Hour! It's the only way to go at Sushi Island. Every day from 2-4 all plates are only $1.50! Last year was my first time trying sushi from a conveyer belt and although I was skeptical at first, I have to admit it's one of the best discoveries I've made! There's so many options and its more tempting to try something new that you may not have otherwise tried if it wasn't moving right in front if you!

Well... it's clear that you won't die ingesting the lunch specials at Sushi Island, but I think I can shell out 50 cents more per plate to binge-eat sushi at Sushi 541. The limited selections here just aren't fresh or interesting. If SI decides to whittle its pricing down to 50 cents a plate, we'll talk!

I mean its ok. The 2-4pm happy hour deal just causes way too many random Eugene people to flood the place at that time. There is sometimes only 2-5 different items on the conveyor belt. kinda mass produced. the sushi rice, which, by the way, should be the most important part of the sushi, is sometimes stale. I've been here twice and its just ok. I wouldn't try to impress a girl on a date here though. Its cheap but that doesn't mean its going to make you feel better. I know a place in Portland that is just as cheap but cares a lot more about the quality of their sushi.

I have eaten at Sushi Island over 20 times. I love the buffet, 2-4 pm $1.50 items on the belt. While the items on the belt might not be the same as a $12 sashimi somewhere else, it is good. They have had some good salmon lately. It's a good place to fill the belly of a hungry 16 year old for a reasonable price.

Spicy tuna roll and the volcano roll is excellent. The sashimi platter was fresh and tasty. Hugo does a great job. Order or eat off the belt. Nice ambience and two screens to watch sports on.

I have mixed feelings about Sushi Island. One feeling is that I don't think it is the best sushi around, but you just can't beat happy hour where all plates are $1.50. I have only been here twice and the first experience was much better than this one. The only reason for me going here is my kid's like to experience sushi and anywhere else, it can get pricey. Here they can pick whatever one they like and experience multiple items. The service is good and waters are filled frequently. So does this place have good sushi? No. Is it worth the price during happy hour and to get to have the experience? Yes.

I and two of my roommates go here on almost a weekly basis(and sometimes two or three times a week) and have for over two months so we have a pretty well-rounded opinion of the place for the recent past. Always during happy hour, 2:00-4:00 seven days a week, $1.50 a plate. I've seen probably 85% of the sushi on the menu on the belt during this time, though I have gone when maybe six different rolls were on the belt so you just have to go at the right time. The sushi is decent quality, and you get plenty for the price. It's not gourmet but for a cheap late-lunch/early-dinner, it's not bad. The layout is a tad crowded but I don't mind it. All in all, can feed you without breaking the bank.

I really wanted to like this, but was so disappointed. Service was a bit slow, but friendly enough. My son had the ebi and it was just ok. I had an order of rolls and they were poorly put together and fell apart when I tried to pick them up. I then had the chicken karage bento box. The chicken was one of the worst things I have had in awhile. It was hard, dry, and flavorless. My boyfriend's Terriyaki chicken was pretty good, so I made him share. I gave an extra star for not making us ill, which with the amount of items on the conveyor belt seemed possible. If you want pseudo Japanese food covered up with mayo-based sauces then this is the place. Freshness is not a priority.

Great place if you go to happy hour at 2. It's hard to get a seat but it's worth the struggle. There are so many different types going by and I still haven't tried it all. The service can be a little lacking depending on who is working. The sushi isn't the best in town but it's cheap. Good but cheap.

This is not very good sushi, but I still go there because of two reasons: a). It's cheap b.) It's the only sushi on the West end of town where I work The sushi belt has little variety and it tastes like packaged sushi you could get at the grocery store. Go in with low expectations when you just need something different from the other restaurants on W 11th. Don't expect high quality fish. For instance, the tuna in the tuna rolls is all mushy instead of nice cuts of fish. Perhaps if you don't compare it to good sushi, you might enjoy it. :)
