    This is one of the most exceptional bars I have ever been too, in all of my 23 years. Tuesday night is bluegrass night, and it's my favorite time to kick back and have some delicious local beers, or not so local as well. A good selection, and when you've filled up with thick Eugene brews, skip on to some Sessions or PBR. The music, besides Bluegrass, is also great. The friendly bartenders complement the music of friends and out of towners. Thanks Sam Bond's Garage.

    I love this place and try to get here whenever I am in town. Their tempeh something - I forget, is it haystacks or corned beef (but I can't imagine I'd ever order anything like that) - is the best I have ever had and I wish I could get here on time before the menu goes offline. But that doesn't matter, because I can eat pita or pizza and enjoy the finest musical performances and dance and experience such community that always makes a visit so completely enjoyable.

    Came here last night for a St. Patty's Day date and had a blast! This is a great bar for a first date, to chill with friends, or to unwind after a hard day's work. I love the wooden interior and the bar, while small, is probably the best seat in the house when it's cold out. They have a great selection of beers, even though it is a little limited. But they are served in mason jars, and all of them are amazing! I did my fair share of sampling... Also, while the food menu is limited as well, it's still top notch. I opted for the hummus plate which had some of the most amazing dolmas I had in a long time! The hummus was delicious and it was a good size to share as an appetizer. You have also got to love this place for the kick ass bartenders who kick out the crazies. Mr. Bartender was having none of the sloppy, Irish, and possibly homeless man who was baked out of his mind and kicked his ass to the curb. Thank you!

    It's a shame that such a local business resulting to lying and shady business practices. Went to see Thao & The Get Down Stay Downs on 9/6. Waited in line for 20 minutes and get to the bouncer and he says there was a misprint in the Weekly (just now remember I saw the price on the website) and the cost is $10 not the $6 printed. Ok. Honest mistake. Turns out everyone inside paid $6 and they just started lying to people once they got to full capacity. F-

    My husband and I went out for date night on a super freezing evening, had some mead (the oldest kind of alcohol ever made), beer, pupus (uhh...appetizers), we really enjoyed the music! Different....very Eugene-ish. A bit of culture...whatever that culture is called I don't know. Kinda hippie, kinda bluegrass, college joint. The disco ball was fun. Very enjoyable, we will be back! And maybe we'll dance next time!

    Sam Bonds is one of those places that radiates fun, from their mason jar beers to the kick ass bands they have play there, i haven't been disappointed either of the 2 times i've been there or even the 10 times i've walked by. the wait staff are friendly and they have a nice outside area. love it.

    My band, Stay Tuned ( staytunedtheband.com -- we're a television tribute band from Seattle) played Sam Bond's on the first stop of our West Coast tour in Sep. of 2007, so this review is from the perspective of both customer and entertainer. First off, Sam Bond's Garage is located in a pretty nice little area (from what we could tell), with a couple other restaurants/night-spots within walking/hearing distance. We had the Mac and Cheese, and it was killer, especially after 6 hours on the road. There were several other items on the menu that I wished I was hungry enough to try, especially the Lobster Pizza. The beer selection was pretty good, but generally that's true for any bar in the NW. There was plenty of seating, both inside and out, for different sized groups. Parking in rear, and a wheel-chair accessible ramp to the front door. I'm not sure about the acoustics in the room, as we were on stage, but there were folks who initially moved back as to not be deafened, and there were other folks who moved forward to rock out with us... so... we're guessing it was like any other venue. As a musician, we were able to back our trailer up to the rear gate in the parking lot and load in directly to the back of the stage. That was awesome, we saved some energy for playing and also felt comfortable our vehicle was safe. The stage was a good size, though there are three of us we have a large setup, but we were able to fit everything pretty comfortably on stage. There was a friendly cat who came in and checked out our gear, that was fun. The sound guy was awesome, lots of experience and very friendly. The only downside is that a big crowd of people remained outside in the really cool back patio, as they were able to hear us just fine, (we loaded onto the stage through a sliding door from the back patio), but we had no idea they were there. The staff kept an excellent tally of people who came in, gave us a great deal on food and drinks, and paid us afterward. All in all, it was a great experience, and we'd love to play there again.

    We looked for Sam Bond's Garage because of a mention of vegan pizza on the Happy Cow site. We were also looking for dinner on New Year's Day while visiting Eugene. We were thrilled when we found the place and walked in. This is a comfortable and very friendly place with a nice selection of great beer served in pint jars. We were sad to not find cards left on the game shelf, but some locals invited us to join them and taught us a quick, fun card game. The vegan pizza of the moment had mashed yams instead of sauce, roasted garlic, cranberries, and slices of pear. It was very tasty from the bite I had, my partner enjoyed the rest of it. I had ordered a vegan sloppy joe. This was made with tempeh crumbled into a sweet, tangy sauce served on a sprouted-grain bun with a salad of baby greens with a tahini dressing. The sandwich was very satisfying, very filling, and satisfying. The salad dressing was great, reminding me of the tahini dressing at some of my favorite places around PDX.

    The food is decent and the place could be cleaner. Bingo on Monday nights is a good time just show up 3 hrs early if you want to sit at a table. The live music is pretty good except when they're acoustic then you can't hear the songs.

    Sam Bond's consistently books some excellent bands, ranging from fairly conventional to downright strange...but usually in a good way. It attracts a mixed crowd from age 21 to 81, full of nice people (I always run into people I know there, and seem to meet new friends each visit), and located in the Hood. The establishment has a funky sort of cool to it, one that feels comfortable and familiar yet different from anyplace else. All those things warm my heart and keep me coming back. The service is just okay. The people are nice, but there aren't enough of them and they're not especially focused or polished in how they go about their work. They routinely run out of food early; if you arrive expecting to grab a late bite during the first set, you are likely to go hungry. The layout is really poor. It's difficult to move around, and Sam Bond's is one of those places where if there were a fire, 10% of the people would get out and the other 90% would get trampled and meet a fiery agonizing death. Seating is very limited; only a third of the people in the place get a chair but every one of them has to pay a cover charge, even if they arrive 10 minutes before the last set ends...and no, the guy at the door will not tell you there's only 10 minutes of music left. Climate control is non-existent so it gets pretty hot and funky inside, which can be kind of sensuous sometimes but sucks in the summertime, when you get dehydrated and some of your fellow patrons smell (you guessed it) hot and funky. Five stars are for places that are GREAT, folks. No offense, but if you think Sam Bond's is great, you need to get out more and maybe leave the city limits occasionally. Still, I generally have fun when I go to Sam Bond's, and I'd give it four stars on the Eugene scale but for one thing: The sound blows, and that's just not right in a music venue. Sometimes it sounds like there's a blown speaker...sometimes it is hopelessly imbalanced...sometimes it is overpoweringly loud or disappointingly quiet. The only thing you can count on is that it's consistently poor; the sound guy spends more time socializing with the band and the patrons than he does doing his job. There's no excuse for this in a music-centered place. Definitely go, but get there early, get a table near the side door where you can get a little air and won't have to wind through too many people to get a drink or use the restroom, and if you really love a band and want to hear them at their best, catch them somewhere else.

    Worth the 5-hour drive! We found this little bit of heaven at the end of a long drive to help friends move. In search of an adult beverage before trying to sleep in our cheapie hotel - I asked a local where we could get a drink. BLESS THAT MAN!!! We walked in @ 12:45 am & got served KICK-ASS pizza by the slice & KILLER beer! We WILL be back!

Every night they have live music, Mondays free, Tuesdays Bluegrass (free), and Wednesday thru Sunday they feature artist from all corners of the world. Cover is normally $2 - $5. Organic pizza varieties vary on each night. Shrimp, fish Jambalaya is excellent, even for a New Orleans Native. Red Beans and Rice is also on the menu. Comes with chips. They have the flavor of Louisiana, and they got it right, BAM !"

    The nice thing about Sam Bond's is variety. They've got a variety of entertainment (Bingo anyone? Live bands? Art Auctions?) and a rotating variety of beers. They are located in a a neighborhood which tends to be more grass roots oriented, so the vegetarian items dominate the menu. Every dish I have had is great, and the bonus- organic! Now that summer is approaching,t heir back area is huge and a great place to hang with friends.

    Sam Bond's has really good food. I had a sandwich involving a grilled portobello mushroom and it was the most delicious mushroom I have eaten yet this year. The margaritas were also pretty good, but stars are primarily for the yummy and affordable food.

    So the hippie rating here is through the roof, and that can be a negative for some people. But even being not so crunchy, I love this place. They have sweet live music, a lot of local flavor, great beer, good food, a really nice patio area and super-nice people on staff. This place is the definition of "community fixture." Plus, they frequently host the Tom Waits tribute night and are great friends of the poetry community. I've even seen puppets and art auctions here! Variety is definitely good. And the hippie quotient doesn't really matter if you can make decisions that aren't based on broad views of large communities. Or if you actually give a damn about real community space. This place has solidarity by the boatload-- and even if you must pigeonhole the clientele, you've got to appreciate that.

    Good place to get a beer and hopefully stumble upon interesting music. The beer choices, as is common for Oregon, are nice, but it's also not the most impressive tap I've seen. Great bingo night though, and definitely has that Eugene flair! Ultimately, because I don't live nearby in the Whiteaker it doesn't really stand out enough to make me a regular.

    I'm not sure if this place is technically a dive (my favorite "genre" of bar), but regardless, I do really like this place. The patio is really comfortable and almost as big as the actual inside. They've got a huge range of events, like has already been stated, and they get a wide mixture of people - young and old, hip and hippie. Mainly I like this place because of the beer selection. It may not be extensive, but they don't waste their taps with Bud and Curs. And what I find really awesome is that they actually rotate the beers they have on tap (which I'm sure can be disappointing if you find a beer you really like) so you can sample a variety of beers and have something new to try each time you come in. This is probably (one of) the best place(s) to go in Eugene if you like sampling really really good beers, and that's saying something.

    I'm glad there are so many fan's of Sam Bonds, it's a kick ass joint with great staff "So" ya got-sta think Mondays for bingo with the 1$ PBR's in the bottle cause it ain't your pink haired grannys bingo . Loads of fun with caustic, romance novel reading hosts that make getting lit a belly rolling event, it is after all the drinking mans chess or so I'm led to believe. Getting there early to get a seat at about 7pm should do it, and we'll see ya there!! Oh yeah, live music abounds cheap covers at the door and good veggie eats to boot.

    This is the place that my friends and I like to come after a night at the Crux, where we can soothe our injuries with beer, wine, a light dinner, free bluegrass, and Uno. At least at 9 in the evening on a Tuesday, it's never too crowded, and the atmosphere is mellow and friendly, drawing in crowds in the Whiteaker neighborhood. Their menu is vegetarian- and vegan-friendly, and the food is served quickly. Yay. I always love my weekly visit.

Lots of live music, a nice selection of beers (and they have MEAD!) and a limited menu of mostly vegetarian options makes this a place with a little something for everyone. ON the downside, the hippie vibe here is strong, so if you aren't into hemp and patchouli, it might not be the place for you.

    Groovy live music and bingo spot in the Whiteaker neighborhood, though it gets mighty crowded after 8 pm. Sam Bond's is a Eugene establishment and this is a good area for visitors interested in the counterculture vibe here. You can walk 5-6 blocks and see a lot of interesting and unusual sights (and people). The Filbert Brown toasted hazelnut ale is among the top 5 beers I've tasted. Even better than Rogue's Hazelnut Brown, with perfectly roasted flavor. Still doesn't beat Steelhead's beers, but in my book, nothing does! :) Drinks served in mason jars is still fun and quirky, even if it's becoming more mainstream. Street parking is very limited, and it's best to plan to walk a few blocks to get to Sam's. I don't think they have a private lot, at least not that I've discovered. The only negative experience I've had there - sometimes it feels like you need to a resident of the Whit or a cute college girl to be served promptly at the bar. It's annoying to stand there empty handed being flatly ignored for 5+ minutes while the girls on stools ask 18 slow questions about cocktails and simper "I don't know, I just don't know!" Hey, I know what I want. Can I get a pint? (And I wouldn't write that for a single instance - it's happened 3x now.)

    When attending the whit block party, I came to SAMs for a drink. There was a band playing so my friends and I stated dancing. I went to order another drink And was forcibly thrown out for being intoxicated. I don't know what kind if power trip the female bartender was on, on 8-1-15, but she needs to be evaluated by the management staff because we had a party ordering food that got up and walked it because of her...horrible service. Lazy staff. Don't go.horrible waste of f***ing time. All the other venues served us. FYI

    I am wavering between a 3 and 4 here. To me, Sam Bond's is sort of a Eugene institution or really to be more accurate I should say it's more like a Whiteaker institution. I come here a lot. It's my neighborhood place. It sometimes feels a bit like a home away from home. I have always loved the ambiance here. The food is great and so are the drinks and of course the bartenders here are great. In the last couple of years Sam Bonds started brewing their own beer, so all of the taps are Sam Bonds brewing. While I enjoy their beer, I sort of wish they still did maybe one or two guest taps (that aren't cider). They have some fun weekly events like Bingo on Mondays (get here early to actually get a seat as it gets packed!) Tuesdays they usually do an open acoustic jam and most of the other nights there is almost always some sort of live music. All in all this is a great place to come and relax after a day at work or on the weekend.

    A friend and I decided to stop in for a drink at Sam's during the Whitaker block party and see what all the fuss was about. We were disappointed when they were charging a 5 dollar cover to just grab a beer. On top of it all the music was terrible and the man on stage was shouting weird things. It took them about an hour to just start playing. I also ordered a hummus plate for 11$ it was great and fresh! The beer was average, I was expecting a whole lot more. The block party was better!!

    Caught a show here a few months back and I was pleasantly surprised. I've been living in Eugene for about 3 and a half years and I think that for just as long everyone has been telling me that this is a place that I needed to go. They were right. The sound for the band was good, plenty of seating with great sight lines everywhere as it's an open space. You can sit at the bar and comfortably see the stage. I like the way that the place is set up. Good beer list, including their own brews, and good food. I'll definitely be back.

    My brother and I visited because we saw they had late night pizza and we had hit up two breweries before eating anything. The beer and cider selection is excellent. The pizza was yummy and they sell out of it by the end of the night. There was a band playing some chill music. We stayed for one drink. Then two. Then three I believe. The bartender was rad and we were easily convinced to stick around. They brew their own beer, which is a bonus!

    I had a great time here. The staff is super friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and very casual, and the place attracts a really awesome crowd. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because my personal idea of a perfect bar would offer an economy priced alcoholic drink option after I'm finished trying the expensive stuff. I spent 40 dollars there without even noticing. Also separate bathrooms for men and women would be nice; There was urine on the toilet seat. But other than that I definitely will be going back.

    S.B. has become a Whiteacre staple. Drinks (or at least beer) really are served in Mason jars, (which is way cooler than it sounds). Live music almost every night. I recently saw a show there and will say that what the building lacks in sound quality it more than makes up for in food (try the artichoke dip) and service. Now a must-visit whenever I come to Eugene.

    Neat place, good beer, so-so music on the night we went. There was a $6 cover charge for the music that night. Not bad if you're there for the bands. We weren't. I appreciate that they offer more than just the pint sized beer. You can get it in a "glass" size for a dollar less. Obviously the value is in the pint, but if you're just looking for a little something something and don't care about the cost/value ratio, the glass size is cool.

    Classic Whitaker experience here. The drinks are served in mason jars, you can play bingo or listen to a random blue grass band, and you might even catch the friendly neighborhood homeless man catching some shut eye in the back patio. I'm only giving it three stars because even though the food is delicious, it takes a rather absurd amount of time for the food to get to you, and the staff typically seems flustered and confused and stressed. It's also a little chaotic when you try to order--then again, it's a quintessential Eugene Whitaker spot, so the laidback, transparent attitude sort of fits. I love Sam Bond's and it's definitely worth checking out if you're looking to have a drink with a few friends!

    I went here to grab a cider with a friend and thought it was great! Plenty of beer, and wine choices...not so many cider choices but the one I got (cherry cider) was top notch. Although I didn't have any food, the menu looked good; not as many vegetarian choices as I would have liked but that's okay. We sat outside on one of the picnic tables, relaxed and conversed in the laid-back atmosphere. I would definitely come back again to check out their food choices as well as to see some of the bands that play there. As I was leaving I checked out the calendar and it is pretty packed! Plus, Mondays at 9:00 they have BINGO...sounds like a good time!

    EXACTLY what I was looking for. Dive happiness! Good people with great taste in beer, a salute to simple goodness with the celebration of PBR and a pretty good couple of whiskeys for it not being known as a whiskey town. Got there early, so no music, but could see it getting pretty awesome in the wee hours. People that run the place are pretty awesome. Super chill as you would expect for Eugene and damn welcoming. It is a ZERO douchebag zone, which as always, makes my heart smile in defiance of all things douchey. Menu is solid. Hummus, sandwiches, etc. good stuff for soaking up some malt. Parking, even at 6:00PM... is terrible. No really good solution. Bottom line, expect a walk if you don't luck out close on the street. Very much worth it.

    Sam Bond's is really two places. I am most familiar with the early hours experience, 4:00 until the music starts. Comfortable bar, great happy hour. Most of the new places in the Whittaker neighborhood feel like prison dining halls, but Sam's is very relaxed. Check out the back smoking area even if you don't smoke. We usually go on Wednesday after work and Marie, Brian and Todd treat us well. Order your drinks and food at the bar and remember to tip well. The drinks are great, the food is pretty good. Later on the music starts, usually around 9:30. Unfortunately it's too late for me, so I miss some music I would love to hear. Wish it started a little earlier

    BINGOHHHHHH night!! Hummus, beer, a few sketchy weirdos lurking inside and out, and some great company! No, i didnt win bingo, but had fun playin. And got a chance to step out back and build some knowledge while burnin a bogey. I was sleepin on Sam Bonds...itsa chill spot for sure.

    I love Sam Bonds so much. It isn't overdone with posh decor or any of the pretentiousness that usually keeps me away from the bar scene. I like the diversity of people you see there: old, young, tattooed, toothless, hipster, art geek, middle-aged, punk, vintage, whatever. There is music every night and it is hit or miss on that. I have seen some pretty awesome and terrible shows there. Bingo night is hilarious and really fun. It's not your average bingo, it's run by two comedic beer-loving dudes who turn it into a comedy routine replete with readings from romance novels and velvet paintings of Jesus. The pizza is pretty damn good for a bar, there is always something covered in garlic which makes me happy. My husband hates going here simply because he is a bit of a recluse and doesn't enjoy going out to a bar. I wouldn't say it's the venue's fault, he just doesn't like loud music and crowds of strangers. It's his problem really, so I guess it isn't pertinent to this review. I wouldn't say any bar is for the shy types, but especially not one that is as intimate as Sam Bonds. It's rather small inside and can get really crowded during a show. And there is usually a carefree middle-aged hippy dancing with abandon and complete lack of rhythm. That might scare some people, but that is part of the fun for me. I will always have a special place in my heart for Sam Bonds.

    This is a pretty cool bar, when we were there there was live music (cover was a bummer, we didn't really want to listen to the music). Having said that, the opportunity to see ZZ Top perform in a sun-dress was nice. The food was mediocre, the beer selection good. For Eugene this is an outstanding bar, in Portland it would be classed as 'good'.

    Sam Bonds is back on its feet! Felt like the glory days of Sam bonds had left us a little while ago with the departure of some favorite bar tenders, but with the return of the original bingo guys and more nights of the week dedicated to free shows, Sam bonds is a more competitive destination vs nearby Blairalley and Meiji. The new bar staff is pretty chill as well. Now serving house made craft brew, it's getting pretty interesting down on 4th and Blair. Minus one star for the fact that they seem to close shop a little earlier than you'd expect, but that just gives you time to stumble on over to Blairalley.

    What a great find here in Eugene, the food was good, the beer was great and the eclectic scene was note worthy. I will make this a regular stop when I come to Eugene. I had salad and slice of pizza, this was very good. The comedy on stage was a fun and unexpected laugh.

    This a great spot to meet friends in a very Eugene atmosphere! Located in the trendy Whiteaker neighborhood, you can select from a variety of local beers or select from a full bar and dine with the likes of grey haired, pony-tailed, baby boomer hippies as well as just regular folks of all ages. Prices are moderate. Pizza is sold by the slice and is tasty. Salmon chowder was more like potato chowder, but good. Mac and cheese was average, but good for $3.50. Salads are fresh and inviting. I will be back.

    This review is based on a visit in June 2011. We ended up here after a grueling 2.5 week conference. They had a good beer selection, the outdoor patio is nice, and the three bands I saw ranged from mediocre to entertaining to amusing. If you have a fun group of friends, it is a fun night out. We ended up dancing right near the stage by the end of the night. One of the bands we saw were definitely high (and hence amusing).

    Sam Bond's is a fun place to meet with friends, grab a drink and listen to live music. My favorite night to go is Bingo Night on Mondays. Make sure you get there early because it's really popular. The only negative about this place is the service. It's a wee bit slow. Do not come hungry, you won't get your food very fast. Every time I order a slice of pizza, it takes at least 45 minutes. This is when their busy, slow, in between. I've learned my lesson to not get there hungry but damn, their pizza (and other food too) is good. Also with their service, it's really hit and miss with who you're going to get. Someone is either really happy and helpful, or really angry and resentful. It sucks to get the latter since the overall vibe of Sam Bond's is fun. Go for a good time, go for their happy hours, go on Monday for Bingo Night!

    We went for dinner and the food was great but it took almost an hour. We ordered hummus & pita as an appetizer (which arrived with dinner), 2 sandwiches, and 4 slices of pizza. There was only 1 person Working in the kitchen, so maybe they were behind. I would have been more forgiving if our appetizer had arrived sometime within that hour window... Low priced beer and pizza by the slice! Over all a good experience and I would probably go again.

    Best "chill" bar in town to listen to incredible music and to meet up with friends. This bar gets some of the most talented musicians playing at their venue. They have a good variety of micro-brews and many local varieties. Places to hang out inside and outside. Kind of a hippie scene, but also drawing folks from the university and a good mix of older generations as well. They offer a pretty good food menu as well. Try the mac and cheese! We love it!

    Good drinks, decent snacks, good place to hang out with friends and entertaining shows. I think the music can be hit or miss, depending on which night you attend, but Bingo is always fun. They just built a patio outside so I'll stop by soon to see how that feels, but I am always looking for more restaurants with outdoor seating! One other thing - it can be hard (and sometimes downright awkward) to come with a big group of people if you don't get there ahead of time. Perhaps the additional seating will help with this problem.

    In Eugene for the night while making our way down to Ashland, we found this place quite by accident using the handy-dandy Yelp app on our Androids. (How did we ever find anything in a new city before that came along?) We were looking for a pubby kinda of place. Sam Bond's Garage popped up along with a few other places, but it sounded just different enough that we decided to give it a go. We are glad we did. We made our way over thanks to the handy-dandy Navigation app on our Androids. (How did we ever get anywhere before that came along?) We found what looked to be a very comfortable, welcoming, neighborhood kinda place. We went in and grabbed some seats. We were perusing the menu when a server/bartender approached us and told us they normally have an "order at the bar" system, but, since she was not particularly busy at the moment, she'd be happy to take our order at the table. I ordered a glass of the (very reasonably priced) house red and a Reuben sandwich made with tempeh. I am not a vegetarian, but I do not eat red meat, so that ruled out the pastrami, which was the other Reuben option. The tempeh was wonderful! Cooked to a yummy crispiness and perfectly complemented by the other sandwich components -- the sauerkraut and dressing and cheese. Also, it was served panini-style, which is a bit different for a Reuben, but worked just fine. We left before music started. (The band was starting to set up just as we were finishing our meal,) But, could definitely see where this would be a great place to sit back, have a couple of drinks, and enjoy a show. If we were to be back in Eugene, we would definitely stop in again.

    Hipster paradise in the heart of the whiteaker. That being said, this bar rocks! Great food, great entertainment, a wonderful outdoor patio and $9 6-packs of P.B.R long necks. I love the mish-mash of musical genres, tasty brews, extremely edible bar food. This is a local institution that is beyond worthy of support. Monday night bingo is a blast! Tuesday's bluegrass jam is great fun.

    One of Eugene's best local bars. Check out the website to see who's playing or what's going on (i.e. Tuesday night is bluegrass night - come play along! Bingo Night. Trivia Night). Great local music and bring in a lot of great bands. Great beer, great crowd. It's a great place to connect with people in Eugene and it's in a great neighborhood. Their back deck is a great place to unwind at the end of the day. If you're going for a well-known band, show up early to get a good seat! It can get packed!

    My boyfriend and I are from the coast and we just happened to stumble across Sam Bond's Garage on Yelp. We decided to give it a shot and we were not disappointed! The staff was friendly and the place has a down home look. Also they had some great brews on tap and the drinks they did mix were good. The music was enjoyable as well! The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is the food. Although the pizza was amazing....the appetizers we had were only OK. All in all we had a good time.

    I've been here a number of times this summer to play board games with friends and I need to update my review. Still awesomely terrible: The bingo prizes and the reading from the smutty novel. Take a sheltered friend and watch them giggle helplessly with embarrassment. Must order when I'm there: Vegan Cookies. I didn't know they were vegan, I had to ask after taking a nibble off a friend's cookie. They are not sandy...like many vegan cookies. Good: Tempeh vegan pizza. They do good things to the tempeh, so good one of my friends thought it was sausage. The veg on it is done really, really well. Ok: Tofu vegan pizza. The tofu is waaaaaaaaay too salty. It throws off the rest of the toppings The missing: fried anything...I know, they don't have a frier, but when I drink I do like to have a fried side dish.

    I knew a wigger in high school with the same name. I was wary to come here. But silly me, this place was a delight. The bartenders treat you like you are a regular person and not a 'customer', ya know what I mean by that? Friendly like they are about to share a drink with you instead of serve one to you. Outdoor area is adequately purdy and functional. Nix one star for somewhat pricey booze, but maybe that's unjustified.

    I found this place exploring the area around my hotel. My husband & I had an early dinner here, so we missed the music that is a major part of the identity of Sam Bonds. My dinner salad was very fresh with a tasty house made dressing. My husband had the Mediterranean plate (hummus, olives, tabouli, pita, etc.), which was good with the exception of the bland hummus--desperately needed garlic. My husband loved the agave mead and I had a basic chardonnay. Our bill for a dinner salad, appetizer, and 2 drinks each was over $40...quite expensive for a hole in the wall.

    I love this place. Good place to just chill with your home skillets and listen to some good ol' bluegrass or live folk music. I do kinda hate that a lot of times when there are shows, I still have to pay to get in even though I'm not there to listen to the music. That's the downside of coming here. It does get incredibly loud and crowded, but it's also a super chill vibe as well. Good drinks, friendly people. There's an outdoor patio if you want a quieter atmosphere to talk or smoke.

    I don't make it over there very often, but when I get a craving for hummus (of all things!) this is where I go. They make the most amazing pita bread-free platter for me, it just makes me, an avowed carnivore, happier than hell to munch away at veggies and some cheese. Drinks are good and strong, everyone who works there seems to genuinely enjoy their job and the atmosphere is lots of fun.

    Sam Bond's is one of the defining places of Eugene. When I think of the bars that I love in this town Sam Bond's is right up there at the top of the list. They have great drinks and atmosphere. The food is awesome and vegetarian friendly (if you're down with that sort of thing). And, as has been said in other reviews, they serve your drinks in a jars. That's the Whit for you. The music is often a showcase of the some of the best artists from the local scene. Oddly enough, I saw one of the best jazz shows of my life here a couple years ago. Some musicians from New York and The Poisonous Birds (a local jazz group from the U of O) played their sets and then got together for a jam session afterwards. I'm tellin' ya, it was magic. And of course there is bingo night, can't forget that. There are just so many things that this bar has that gives it the extra "oomph" into that special five star category. Oh and . . . THERE ARE NO TELEVISIONS! Booyah.

    Come on. Really? Sam Bonds' is a great venue and a fun place to hang out. But as a restaurant? So so food, little selection, often out of what you want, and slow service. Given, they are prioritizing drink sales. Good if you're drinking. If you're hungry, and the bar's busy, you'll likely get an eye roll from the bartender if you order food. It's happened to me more than once.

    One of Eugene's gems, for sure. Every time I go to Sam Bond's I find myself asking why I don't go there all the time. These five stars are for Sam Bond's as a bar and music venue. The food is fine for bar food (vegan pizza option is a nice touch) and accentuates what this place really has going for it--but I don't think I or many others would describe Sam Bond's as a destination for eating. Musical acts from all over the Northwest play here, and the sound is great. Hipster vibe permeates but even if you (like me) are a pretty standard-issue boring white person who doesn't own overalls and John Deere hat, you won't find yourself feeling uncomfortable. If you have nothing to do Tuesday morning, or have the ability to bounce back faster than I do, Monday night Bingo is a riot--highly recommended!

    Quite possibly my favorite bar. The back patio is smoky hipster divinity on a summer night. The bartenders get freaking swamped with orders but still treat you like they're genuinely glad to help you. And I have sultry dreams about their mac and cheese. Stay out late on Bingo Monday (hopefully while winning something like a flat of mangos or a steamy Harlequin romance novel) and then come back for Bluegrass Tuesday.

    Kay. I didn't think I would write a review of Sam Bond's...because didn't Rolling Stone already do that? Shouldn't all Eugenians just know that we have a little gem here, and hanging out at Sam Bond's is just what you DO when you want to go a bar? Apparently not. The man and I went to see Band of Heathens play here one Thursday night in August to a packed crowd of maybe ... 20 people. Of course, that didn't stop the band from playing a great set, nor did it take away from our good time (we chilled with the drummer and swapped stories...). However, I couldn't help but think, "maybe Eugene needs a bit of a reminder of how good we have it here." So yes, visitors, come to Sam Bond's and check out vintage Eugene in a stellar neighborhood. Yes, locals, venture out and see what it is that people are referring to when they talk about Eugene culture. But d-bags? Well, I guess it's okay if you stay at home. Or go someplace in the Barmuda...

    It's easy to rant and rave about a place that has Monday night bingo followed by Tuesday night Bluegrass, serves good micro brewed beer, makes late night vegan pizza (could be a hell of a lot better), and has an atmosphere and customer base that are both warm and friendly. The interior space of Sam Bond's is what sets Sam Bond's apart from every other bar in Eugene. Stretching out on the old behemoth timber benches, you quickly will see the draw of the place. People will come and go, and in just a matter of minutes you will see a slice of Eugene life, a slice of the Whiteaker. Check out: Irish Jam every Sunday afteroon

    Went there with the kids for supper around 5:30pm. Not too crowded. I wasn't expecting much and we almost left. I'm glad I didn't. The food was great. I got the meatloaf plate and my wife got the chicken pesto panini. The kids got the salmon chowder and the mac and cheese. We pretty much all shared each others. The price was good too. Add four alcohol drinks and two sodas to the food and it came out to $40. My only complaint is that even though there are no smoking signs as you go out to the outdoor seating, there are still ashtrays on the tables and people still smoking. It says not kid friendly but, I believe, kids are allowed until 8:30, or around there.

    Went on a Monday night to meet new friends for Bingo! A friend suggested we go early and I am glad we did - the place was PACKED by the time Bingo started. Beer was a good price, I love that they served it in mason jars :) A few of my friends got the pizza and it looked delicious. They reported back that it was good, but not the best in town. Bingo was super entertaining and comical, though it was hard to hold much of a conversation and play at the same time. From the looks of their menu the appetizer prices are more than reasonable, I will definitely be going back to get my nosh on. Unique, clean, friendly, and eclectic.

    Well, this afternoon, I had the opportunity to eat at Sam Bond's Garage. I had intended to eat at Papa's Soul Food & BBQ...but they were closed for the late afternoon, and I was hungry. I passed by, then turned around to visit this place, Sam Bond's. Not sure how the garage part came into the name though. Bummer, they do not carry Corona...my favorite beer, the only bottled beer they offer is Pabst Blue Ribbon (reminds me of 1950's television ad with the song "Waddya have, Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer"). I am a real wus when it comes to beer, but I tried a Pilzner they had on tap, it was okay, sort of. I ordered Sam's Plate (after all I'm in Sam's place) which consisted of meat loaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, and broccoli. First, one spear was a bit overcooked and the other was freshly steamed, but both were good with the gravy. Second the rest was fabulous! The mashed potatoes were a little lumpy which is fantastic...it means the spuds weren't beaten to death or come out of a box. The gravy was really good, and had an interesting spice/herb to it that made it sensational. The meatloaf was superb! Meaty, not too soft, tasty, and a reminder of my grandmother's meatloaf. The folks working there were kind and helpful, and the customers seemed to be enjoying themselves. I am happy Papa's was closed...I enjoyed myself at Sam Bond's Garage. I will return to Sam Bond's for another meal.
